Republicans Work to Rebrand GOP as Party of Working Class

"Donald trump brought more working class voters into the republican party than any other president since ronald reagan now. Republicans are trying to figure out how to keep them. The working class vote will be crucial in next year's midterms. Here's npr congressional correspondent. Susan davis in the last decade. The biggest growth in the republican coalition has been white voters without a college degree along with some growth with similarly educated black and hispanic voters. that's why republicans. Like indiana congressman. Jim banks believe the only winning path forward for the gop is to fully reimagined itself as the party of the working class and if republicans want to be successful as a party when the majority in twenty twenty two win back the white house and twenty twenty four. I think we have to learn lessons that donald trump taught us now to appeal to these voters. Banks is the chairman of the republican study committee but conservative faction in the house. long rooted. in small government low taxes and social conservatism. He recently sent a six page memo to house. Minority leader kevin mccarthy making the case that republicans need to refocus their agenda. Almost entirely on working class appeals for banks. This means tougher immigration laws cracking down on china big tech and perhaps most provocatively for republicans corporate america for too long the republican party said into the narratives that republican party was party of business or the party of wall street. Republicans are increasingly comfortable attacking corporations these days. That's a lot easier for them. After wall street donors gave more to joe biden. Major companies halted political donations to republicans who objected to electoral college results on january six and is companies take more liberal positions on controversial issues like georgia's new voting law senate minority leader mitch. Mcconnell last week issued a rare verbal rebuke of companies that oppose the law. Warning if you will to corporate america's to stay out of politics. It's not what you're designed for.

Andrew: Philip's Death Has Left 'Huge Void' in Queen's Life

"Written. Prince Andrew Queen Elizabeth Middle Son has said that his mother feels a huge void in her life following the death of her husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh on Friday. He was speaking after a family service in the chapel Royal Lodge, Windsor and his younger brother, Prince Edward, said the family we're trying to come to terms with the Duke's death. However much one tries to prepare oneself Listen like this. It's it's still It's in a dreadful shock, and we're still trying to come to terms of that. But I have to say that extraordinary tributes and the memories that everybody has had been willing to share has been so fantastic on Just goes to show you You might have seen our father grandfather, father in law, but he meant so much to so many other people, and Jim Wright was Canada's high commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2006 to 2011. He met Prince Philip and the Queen on many occasions, and he's bean sharing his memories of the Duke of Edinburgh. He's a character hey, can be hey could be a bit cheeky. At times. He has a fun sense of humor and extremely hard worker for Her Majesty for the monarchy. For Britain for the Commonwealth. You stayed at Windsor Castle yourself. Didn't you? Tell us about that? We did. Everything was you know, one of those. Remarkable occasions that you remember forever. TOC Queen and Duke of Edinburgh hosted a wonderful dinner and we had breakfast with him next to the next day. On. It was so special.

"Blake bailey joins us now from virginia. His new biography is phillip. Roth blake thanks for being here. Thanks for having me all right. So there's a long story to how you became. philip. Roth spago for you. Were not his first choice but you were his ultimate choice. You just give us some background on that process. I was having breakfast back in two thousand twelve with the late jim alice. Who is the biographer of saul bellow. And at one point we were talking shop. And he said you know that. Ross miller is no longer returning philip. Ross phone calls. We in the biographer. Business knew that. Ross that we didn't particularly know who ross was. We knew that for a long time. He had been phillips biographer. I was between projects. I just finished my third biography about charles jackson. Who wrote the last weekend. And i had communicated with philip previously about my cheever biography because they were pleasant acquaintances. I read a letter. So i had. I had his address. So i wrote him a letter and he invited me to new york and said why. Don't we talk so we did. And what was that conversation like. Well we had two conversations. The first time i came he was very pleasant very conversational. A friend of his julia goal your former girlfriend stop by. She's a psychiatrist. And he has absolute faith in her character judgments so i think he invited her over to check me out and we never got around to talking about the prospect of writing his biography per se and toward the end. I said i gotta go. And he said well. Why don't you come back saturday. And when i came back saturday it was a different phillip roth. He was far more grim. He was in a lot of pain. He just had another major back surgery. And so i- solicitously asked about his back and he said you didn't come here to talk about my back and motion for me to sit down. "Jim thanks for joining us. It's my pleasure to be talking with you today. We're gonna talk about tumor. Necrosis factor or tanf the role. It plays in inflammatory conditions and one hundred and eighty life. Sciences develop new therapies that target. Tanf i'd like to start with a little history though early in your career you served as chief scientific officer and senior. Vp of research and development center core and led the team that developed remedied. The firsthand inhibitor. When you were doing this at what point did the raw potential for tanf. Inhibitors become clear. Will the it's fascinating story in that When i joined santa are chief scientific officer. They had a very very large substance program going on treating patients with sepsis and they had a gm antibody against endotoxin and The day initial data was a little unclear and the fda required them to do in all comers sepsis trial and that failed and senator gore was in big problem. Because of that lot of people it actually hired a salesforce to sell this stuff so We were talking with the clinicians who treat substance patients. They were convinced that it really was tian out. Tumor necrosis factor that was causing the inflammation and the death of these patients. And so we did have an antibody against tanf that was made and we humanized. And i treated about fifty patients with sepsis with this anti and and nothing happened

"Well lo and behold. I've got moderna. I've got pfizer glocks. Tell me what you're doing to speed up the end of this pandemic. Yeah we're we're rodley. We make cloud software and that helps these life. Sciences companies both developed the medicines and bring these medicines of patients that need them now particularly in in as it relates to maxine. We have over thirty applications and what they do is help them manufacture these drugs. Get these drugs through the clinical development. Send them to the regulators and get them out to the patients that need them. So it's really the full spectrum and we're really proud to contribute ten before viva. How much was done by hand paper up and doing thirty thousand person drug trials versus now with well i would say. Jim digitized a lot of things in the commercialization in the clinical development. But actually running these clinical trials. We're still early in a lot of this stuff is still done on. Paper just getting started. But jim you talk to me two or three years from now. We'll probably eliminate half of them paper. How about that all right. Well that's because two or three years. From now i liked because there's a lot of people who feel that once we've beaten covid anything. Life sciences is going to go down. That is certainly not what i believe. It's not what you believe. This is a big industry jim. It's a two trillion dollar industry in this is a big industry and it's critical for human health and human human happiness. It's really important stuff right. We're we're extending life. Were making my better for people. So now it's It was here long before covid. It will be here long after okay. I have seen more worry about state sponsored cyber threats that i've seen have literally during whole presencia president trump. I have to believe the russians are trying to get into or the chinese are trying to get into every single one of these medications to call them their own without doing any work whatsoever profiteering per pirating. What can do to stop it. But we have to be vigilant about anybody who wants to get into our customer systems so we have absorber security department. We take it really seriously. The main thing. Jim we we have to assume that everybody's trying to get in all the time and keep them out so that's nothing new boy. We take very seriously all right. So when i look at some of the companies i know that some of these countries are shrinking. Their salesforce is that at. Does that impact. Your bottomline is true. Right they may. It depends on the type company but going forward. We believe there will be some shrinkage. Is maybe in the neighborhood of ten percent or so of these sales forces because they're becoming more digital becoming more efficient and that's actually a really good thing for viva because as a technology and eight provider. We're providing them a lot of the tools that that they're using to drive efficiency so when they use more of our technology yes they'll their salesforce might go down in size a little bit but overall it's a very good thing or even when our customers become more and how viva work and how the doctors were actually era where we don't want to go outside or ecosystem. It'll go to the doctor. Because i didn't pack viva well. You know you see it. In the doctors and patients i write the the really strong rise in telemedicine. The same thing that's going on with our customers life sciences companies. They're doing remote meetings with the doctors and we have specialized software to enable them to do that in a compliant way for example signed for a drug sample right over the internet without having to be there. Okay so peter. We have a new president coming in. We've got some legislative changes. I have to believe new. President is going to be a little more restrictive more regulatory orange. The one who's going out. How does that impact viva. We're looking forward to open partnering with all the administration's around the world biden administration for sure. Everybody wants better healthcare. Tim better and more efficient healthcare. And we're providing the technology to do that. So i'm very optimistic. Can you make it. So that's less expensive for the people we know are hurting in this country. Absolutely we you know by digitizing making things more efficient. That's the best thing that you can do. Make make the overall value prop better and you know. Then you have to trust the administration and others to divide things have property all right terrific peter once again -gratulations of big move since.

Widespread weakest and get this autos home centers and internet stores, steroids, ugly immediately interest rates plummeted. It was incredible. See we don't really want to see that because it says the Cottam go into recession, but, you know, the benchmark ten year treasury now has a two point three seven percent yield, and that's lows veer that's extraordinarily. Remember, just six months ago. Fed chief, Jay pal was worried about the economy overheating. Then he ratchet a pitcher traits. One time too many. And now we've got these negative retail sales to do with that we kill number led to a rough opening. But just when it looked like the averages we're going to give up yesterday's gains, the White House leaked the Trump's thinking about not putting any tariffs on imported cars, given that he was expected to hit them with a twenty five percent duty any minute. It was a major positive. And so the market screen tire. Just when the Dow Jones average was a bath roll over. He say that again, he's the teeny of the Dow Jones average. Now, I can't process importance of this league news and one fell swoop. Trump went from being a hated protectionists, no nothing to someone who might be cleverly assembly. A coalition of the willing in the trade war against the Chinese at this Wall Street. Of course, we have no idea if that's really the case. I mean maybe Trump just didn't want to data roll over and, you know, watch the Dow either way with those auto tariffs on hold for Japan and Europe you four buyer stepped in picking up the stocks of, of tech companies within European business. Yes. Facebook and alphabet, now don't forget about those retail sales numbers of cost bond yields to plummet. Suddenly stocks was safe, consistent dividends. Because a lot more tractive so bars clock to the Kimberly Clark's in the PepsiCo's the proctors in the coca Cola's plus week dumbers being. There's no way, the fed in titan anytime soon. I think it's counterproductive when the president publicly bashes Jay pal. Taking interest rates too high. They should harder for to change course without appearing to compromise. The Fed's independence but Trump's not wrong. We'd be in better shape at the fed would give us a rate cut in these numbers. It would be justified..

Phenomenal show called busted openness on channel ninety three siriusxm. And that's a that is a great wrestling show with a huge audience. Great reach and again, it's the illustration of how popular. In wrestling has become. And also the irascible incomparable James e cornet will join me today from his luxuriance of mode near Louisville in the the castle cornet. So that should be fun. Always give a corner here. So again fund show today. And I thank you guys have subscribing to our podcast, whether you do it on Google podcast or Spotify or apple podcasts. Tune in Stitcher or heroin. Heck, you get your slobber knocker audio. We've free shit you, and we certainly free shit. You also leaving those five star ratings when you get the opportunity, but right now kids, here's what's on my mind. A lot of things on my mind this week, folks. And a lot of interesting things are developing a creatively and the world of pro wrestling. I seen a lot boy since we talked last. I have consumed a bunch of product a bunch of fraud talking about the momentarily, but I think the the the biggest story would have to be the return of the McMahon's Mishra McMahon bents a Stephanie her husband triple h and brother Shane the came back on Monday night, raw they're gonna they're gonna take over the administrative control of these shows on their inner story in their characters and television characters should be interesting should be interesting. I was a little bit disappointed. That there was not more of a shakeup because I have my hopes really sky high maybe too high quite frankly that we would say major implosion of the flagship brand, and it would be beginning to be reassembled before they went off the air to some degree. I got a what I thought was an entertaining. I albeit maybe long for some people's taste for a segment or the McMahon's lay in the lead the land here establishing the lay of the land. But then the rest of the show is kinda felt to me like it was business as usual. So I said to myself, and I did Monday night, KOMO JR. It's a you're talking about creative with show business fighting. How can you get to upset with the play fights? And you are critiquing. It lucky was the NFL playoffs. And then some is gonna say, well JR, you know, kind, of course, that's your business. Yeah. It's it's a but some of my life. So hope it's not years either. I thought the information of Doda view, they're gonna adds new talents. I'm big on lar- Sullivan. The big some guys got this astonishing look if he is cared taken. And he is he is Ron along with no stone unturned he needs to be assigned to an agent that can lead him every step of the way, not a different agent every week. He's got it. He he's a kinda guy would walk down on airport corridor. And everybody would look if you walked zero restaurant people going to look he draws attention. So he's a head Turner. So I'm I'm high on him. He needs his own guy. He thinks his own agent. That's going to bring him along with one on one care. That's my take on that deal. I'm glad he see threes. Getting back on the main roster. Nicky cross really has a unique upside I think in the female division. She's very fundamentally sound I like the tag team of heavy machinery because they are throwback to the looks of the old big barrel chested powerlifting. You know? They're they they steaks and they lift weights. I dig that's good. Then I thought when I first saw Lacey Evans at the first may young classic..

"Jim Cramer day to here comes the hard part though. Today's session made a ton of sensitive to the big China News from the g twenty this weekend. Even stocks opened four too high as often tell you an ended up pulling back somewhat Dow only closing up two hundred eighty eight points hasn't been gaining one point nine percent. Nasdaq one point five one percent, let's go over the state of player. What exactly went down north Gina? I'd say the president gave China ninety days to come to the table with substantial changes in the way, it does business plus the People's Republic lots to buy a lot of American-made goods just you're of goodwill. There's a lot here to be chewed on. But let's start with the tempering point. It may be difficult for the Chinese to change their economy. For example. I don't know how Chinese companies will stop stealing American intellectual property went at the moment. China won't even being. Dollars into doing it. That's the biggest concern among the companies I talked to. But there are a lot of other reasons to be stepped ical that deal still assuming the Chinese are serious about coming to the table. How do we try to profit from it? I mean, it is mad money not mad foreign policy. I will go over these ones. That was easy if China wants to show President Trump's some good faith, what can they do? Well, they have to be and that three visible. I the People's Republic needs to give us some agricultural orders. The news that might be concessions drive up the prices of pretty much the whole green cop today what the former do when they have more money in their pockets. Well, they buy tractor. It really doesn't matter how how much really much stock of John Deere's up many firms still have holds on the stock. And even after today, it's still down thirteen points from its high. I think is analyst more aggressively upgrade dear now, the China seems willing to play ball. You also hear the Chinese will buy more American energy. Please don't get sucked in there. The truth is when it comes.

"Three CNBC or tweet me at Jim Cramer. How do we gain out the potential outcomes of this election today, we saw a lot of bets on possible scenarios bets being made? I think frankly with all that not all that much information. Well, let me try to interpret what the buyers and sellers were doing to understand why the Dow gained one hundred seventy three point say, yes. And be Vance point six three percent. And then ask that kind points. It's four percent. And there for maybe get some insight into what they might do. I most of today's buyers embraced the concept that we're going to have gridlock. Most likely gridlock caused by the Democrats taking control of the house of representatives. Why don't veterans look we'd walk so much because historically when Washington can't get anything done. That's been very good for stocks. But as good look really good right now, we got a game this out. Okay. On the one hand. We're not getting any more. Tax cuts with the do nothing. Congress. So once we anniversary of the presence us tax reform packets. That's no longer going to bolster our growth anymore at the same time. There won't be enough votes in congress to block President Trump's trae war against China. That's gonna keep puttering along and Federal Reserve looks set to keep raising interest rates one can December and then three more next year. If you own stocks, this quit lock scenario results in dramatically slower economy. That's the sound of a slower economy. Not great news for the market as a whole, but it's driven for the highest growth stocks that can keep putting up terrific numbers. Even during a Slota think Amazon alphabet, the cloud place, the cyber security stocks and many of the non-semiconductor names like broadcom and Qualcomm, which are tied to the roll out of five G wireless technology, not the border me. And I could argue the five G wireless technologies going to go on no matter who's in congress. What else then because if historically liked biotech while disliking big forma? Here's an idea you could easily buy biotech ETF year. These are all these talks are always there just really far down. So I like the X P I owe it will do the job. Although again, because we have gridlock. I'm not so sure there's much democratic house to do for the biotechs. So that's kind of more ethereal. What does it work when we have block? I don't think it will be great for the consumer what's being alleged tax cut. There's nothing else. Coming but interest rates and tariffs are still going to go up. We shouldn't tremendous rally in retail going on. Endlessly. I seemed to Peter out today could come to a truly screeching halt moral. I'd be very careful here. I bet many hedge funds would like to go wall Amazon which has been down down down and go short all the retailers which have been up above except perhaps discounters like TJ extra potent stores Dollar General how the Republicans keep both houses of congress. Well, I got one that is what I need you to do this. I need you to go by the defense stocks. Northop grummin lucky Morton and Raytheon all everyone had outstanding quarters among the best. We seen this year. And yet what happened? Stock so cloud why because fears that congress would end up cutting the defense budget. If the Democrats can't control of either house while both parties love showing up money for military hardware, the Republicans love that even more. So if they can hold both houses of congress, I expect a roaring bull market defense stocks, or at least a cessation of the nasty bear market. That's been going on. Now bite. Also, clearly by the soccer, Boeing, even with the trade war against China because I believe the Chinese Nivo and move them Bowie needs China. Sure, the company sells a quarter of its planes to the People's Republic. But the weightless for commercial aircraft is many many years long and to China wants to switch to Airbus. They'll have to get to the back of the line. And I think demand stay strong because of the growing middle class in developing countries, like China, speaking of the tray world, I know that there are plenty of traders who believe that if Democrats can take both.
