"Renee? Yes. Senioritis. Right. So like, I got a show. Find it. Kids don't worry about it. Minority corner. JB club, those are the ones you really want to check out. Yeah, but can I pet your dog? But honestly, most of the time we just talk about how much we love your two shows. So come here, let's talk about that. Well, you got it. It's like this is the you know final season, get it now. Get it now. Get on in there. Listen, I'm approaching 500 episodes, and I'm definitely starting to sort of look like huh. Yeah. Well, other people be like, so I guess you'll probably 500 feels like a good number hot Janet. Disagree. Maybe. And you could leave that one, but you gotta come back with something else. Because you're just feeling that you're a staple in podcasts. I don't know. I think I see a show brewing right here where every week we jump on and we're like, we don't know what the show is. Yeah. And I always have to have the things and always people and it's definitely not video. It is definitely just everyone has to hear this year comfortable. This is what I'm gonna sound like when I have dentures. That's basically what it's a pretty clean. It's a little training wheels for you. Yeah. Oh my God, I should be issued. I needed this laugh and giggled so much. And then you don't know me, I am James Arthur, the host of minority corner. We look at history, the news. This is true. I don't know why I'm laughing. We really do look at the news in history and pop culture alternate intersectional lens. And we were still here doing it. Yes, also, sidebar while we're recording. I'm going to be in LA from Saturday to Tuesday, hosting marvel's eternals, red carpet, and I hope I get to see you too. Oh, oh. Oh yes. And the listeners are just here listening to us making plans for IRL. I have to be up in San Francisco Friday into Saturday, but then I get back. However, I really I know. It's very strange. That is weird. I know. But I'm back on Saturday afternoon. Okay, perfect. Okay. It's for like a SF state gator fest, like they like to bring because all three of my sketch best partners and I went to SF state. So they like to have us do like a little something. Yes. Very cute. Coming home and being like, and I never graduated. So it feels like I get it. If you like honor went to my bakery like looked at a cupcake, I'd be like, well, you know. I didn't know what I would do. I was part of that. Can I take credit for this? Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. Well, I think it's sad. I think I have one, I think I have too many credits, but I'm missing one science class. It's one of those where you're like, I you could just give it to me. Yes. Okay. Even though I've never asked, I've never asked. The same thing happens to my graduate program at UC Santa Cruz. It was a graduate certificate when I was there. And then these scents have added one class that makes it a master's program and just one class because you know how often there is a box to check graduate certificate? Never. I am like I can't lie. I have a mess. One class alone. Yes, you can. Yeah, you should just be like, the honorary degree. Thank you so much. Yes. That's true. Well, thank you so much for coming into the thing that we didn't know what it was. We made it a thing and it happened. We did something. And it was a black market. I loved every second of it. Black party. Black party. My body. Maximum fun dot org. Comedy and culture. Art stoned? Audience supported..

"Right off the top who is thirty fifty-seven chant bright or actually in iowa the jersey devil. I can honestly with the devil. I could say right right but Again to the point where the ones. I really don't like i don't about because they're outtakes. Yes he cuts and the ones like deep deep deep cuts because honestly I added under sleep gut to my under appreciated question. Just all right good but a like the ones used to hate have almost become camp to me right or like springsteen is a performer. In like he came up in the sixties and the seventies new york like. There's a lot of camp he He's thinking something really wild swings in the eighties and nineties. Yeah and that's why we got born to run for now run. We think of as like this guitar rock song right. It's got so star in it. You know it's like a sense drums song. Yes all max wiper and said And that also like he would give the like the weird swings. He took an eighties and nineties. Gave a rebirth. To like this modern rock. He skipped two decades of wall of sound. Yes but he he brought it back in the two thousands in this completely different way but in this fully like still to himself wall of sound like still true to his waltz. Now but it was like the brennan. O'brien while sound right or the danny wallace on And so yeah. Like so robin famously. Hey fifty-seven channels and nothing on we've famously. Hey near the jersey devil. Like i think about the fifty seven channels baseline every single day of my life. Yeah it rules in the same way. That an eighty. Every guitar player has pedal on their pedal board that they never use like for three seconds in one song. Okay us and it's just like at there's this there's this preset in my recording software called chorus. Soroush as if a chorus pedal was the dinosaur okay and it specifically built for bass guitars and.
Jen Psaki Is Not Really Principled About Vetting People
"Hey, why did you leave American hostages behind behind enemy lines with a bunch of medieval Taliban savages to kill them? Like, why did you do that? That sounds like it's a pretty bad idea. We probably shouldn't leave our people behind peppermint and peppermints like God, No, don't worry. We left Americans behind to be killed and murdered and taking his child brides by the Taliban because we're not sure we can vet them on the plane. So principles, Jack. Principles check right. Peppermints, saying that the Biden administration is very concerned about vetting people coming to the United States and to US facilities, right. Jim Tracking. That's the principle right? JB Jim's following. He's like he's not confused. So here it is. Here's peppermint tea, saying, Yeah, we are definitely concerned about vetting people that get into the United States. Check this out. Decisions you have to make in the federal government are not. Yes and no decisions are as simple as what you're laying out here. What we're evaluating and looking at is how to keep people on our military bases safe. While also getting these US citizens. Dual citizens, people who are prepared to leave Afghanistan able to leave at the same time. We don't think we're not going to allow flights that have hundreds of people who don't know who they are, who haven't been security protocols through security protocols where we haven't seen the manifest to land on U S military basis. All right. Sorry. I'm texting so much. You don't have to hit the champion. You sound People text me during the show. I think they forget about the air. But if someone related to this story wake it or not, So there it is. There's peppermint. She's like, Yeah, man. We got to vet people vetting where principled here we've got to make sure you know people come into the United States and us military facilities are vetted. And by the way, let me just say, and I'm not kidding that I I I agree with that principle. If it were an actual principle. I agree with that. I say if it were because Peppermint doesn't actually believe
J.B. MacKinnon: What if the World Stopped Shopping?
"Day the world stops shopping is a fascinating experiment. In what if outlined your thought experiment had did you set up. Well it imagines that one night. I suppose we awake. We not often we wake up and we no longer have the desire to shop. We immediately reduce our consumption by watch. How much that was the first question. I had to ask myself. Obviously you can't reduce consumption by one hundred percent because at that point you're not acquiring any food clothing yourself in any way. I almost randomly an gut instinct kind of way picked a twenty five percent drop in consumer spending so across goods services and experiences and Started taking that out to the world. And i had sources saying to me. You know this is too ridiculous to even contemplate too absurd about too much. People said well you know. We can't even talk about that extreme drop in consumption. You know you thought. Experiment is is farther than i want to. Then i'm comfortable going with you and then of course it happened. Why was nearly finished. In fact writing the book when the pandemic struck and more or less overnight consumption in many countries dropped by about twenty-five percent became very became. Eminently real

"And i was like i mean i again not to necessarily take it here but like an none of this stuff means. He didn't have trauma. Because i'm sure everyone does a well. To do. white straight man is telling other people a lot of people who aren't straight white men that they need to get over stuff and it's like you don't really get to say that like you don't know what it's like you don't know what micro aggression actually feels like a true true. Yeah so sure. It sounds so silly well again. Terrible naming by the left again. Mike mccall micro means miniscule at the you know. There's a part of this but you don't know what it feels like when somebody makes a small comment that triggers all this immediate old stuff again on top of whatever normal making the sausage of lifestyle. You're already going through your late to work. Because you couldn't hal a cab and this this this you you arrive as many of us do frazzled on the tipping point and then someone says yeah you know where you from. Yeah fuck you not on top of everything out of the energy for this. Any jason respect tons of respect stunts bit. Yeah we're able to have these. Congress respectful disagreement. I don't even again. I'm not. I don't even know where matt ireland. I just know that. I'm not reading it. It's a fucking brilliantly re written book it's amazing. yeah but. I'm not getting that tasty sensation. I usually get when people articulate how i feel about something you know you get that tingle of like all man. I wish i could have said that way. That's what i knew internally. And i'm just not having that the way i would have a few years ago taint his changes. Okay so the fact. That i have is hard scape. He said that word in use. Ed something like rich at work and hearts cape prefers to hard landscape materials in the built environment structures that are incorporated into a landscape term like two years ago..

"Just in a much different way than say when we interviewed him and he was telling it and it was candy to my point of view. And now i'm just going like i would. I wouldn't dare. I don't have the skill set to argue him. But i'm having this broader voice in my head just goes. This isn't really a crisis and what's being gained far outweighs these pretty isolated events and those people look fucking idiotic like when when when those when those clips break even those people that were involved in those cases even now probably twenty nine. Yeah they feel fucking stupid probably and they also were young kids with big emotions in china. You know change the tide and that's all part of it too. You know there is definitely a bunch of fucking wackos out there. Yeah but it is not concensus. The fringe left. It's the fringe right. Now it's not. I don't think we need to panic about it. The other thing is that's like what. I find to be a little counter intuitive. Is this idea that like well. Microaggressions are silly of the jonathan height below is microaggressions aren't real and intentions. Everything and this while we are also in this like very intense emotional learning spike lee. Draw your feelings colored. I'm like whoa. You can't tell them to do that. And then also tell these other people. They can't be upset. Yeah i think the fear people must have i mean. I'm i'm like. I'm a third of the way through processing these thoughts on that. So i'll our grit some of these. But i will say. I try to imagine what's in the mind of the people that are afraid and i guess people are probably afraid that we're going to get so sensitive and week that we actually can't function. Yeah i and that's a legit like concern. Yeah but then another burmese going like no in fact this trip on planet earth is way fucking harder than anyone's ever acknowledged in. It's out of fear of appearing weak that we are afraid to talk about what we are all going through and one only look at the metrics to grade. How well we're doing with all this were hugely. Obese is a country we have the highest rate of heart disease..

So yeah i my personal position is we cannot pretend there's not a word news. It's a real item. It is a word unless they're gonna rename news to another word but still it is an item on planet earth. That sometimes needs to be called by. Its name right. Those are my thoughts. But i can do something that might mitigate someone's sadness even though i don't agree which as i did. Yeah a re re recorded it and said last su. I guess what. I'm when i was watching it was happening. You had an instinct too. Which was actually i. Don't know right. And even though you have this like intellectual philosophy which i agree with. I think you emotionally. There is something changing a little bit. Young and i and i think maybe part of it has to do with these people. Were talking to all of these stories. You're hearing and it's i don't know i just is not worth it you know it's one of those situations it's popular sane in. Am sure it's the same everywhere which is like. Would you rather be happier right. And basically i could have died on that hill. And i probably refuse to go say another clue and i probably got my way and i wouldn't have felt happy about it. Yeah i just thought i was. Well thank you another thing happened. Did you see the other thing that happened. Metron category was like wild west. And you had to say as many words as quickly as possible so people are saying words really quick someone said indians which by the way i could. I could mount an argument for which is when you're talking about the wild west. Yeah it was cowboys and indians. You know big riddle why someone thought. Of course that you're speaking is so fast it's like no one has time to think yes. It's lucky that those were the worst things that came out shine a whole week but it ended. They got everyone. Got to use those clues and everything and then just soon as it ended. I said hey while we're here. Maybe we'll get him sane native americans so easy and that guy was like the guy who said was good call. Everyone's like good calls like this is easy. Yeah i just feel like it's slowly moving into instead of defensiveness. Oh yeah all right like an immune anything by but sure. If that's gonna make someone feel a little better why not. Yeah i gotta say man. I the one data evolving on. And who knows if it's in the right direction. And i. I'm very hesitant to bring this up because i absolutely idolize the guy as i think we both do Jonathan height. i'm reading. Coddling of the american mind intellectually. The points are bulletproof. He is so smart and what is at risk in his opinion is true the integrity of the university system challenging beliefs. All those things. they're very valid. But i do also have this other voice now in head. That says you're upset with their moral panic. But you're caught in a moral panic as well it is not probably the onslaught that they feel like. You're going through these examples like fringe. I mean really. I mean mind. You are horrific examples evergreen. There's all these really bad examples. There's no question. But how many are there Sir twenty matt. How many college classes happen every day in this. Homey million kids are getting educated a year on the university system. And is it really a problem. I guess it kind of having math of said that. And then i liked the. You're thinking that way because i our users interesting. I'm listening to it..

Like man means due to hang up because look he got lincoln a bucket lincoln both tall long lean. Shit got some kind of cardona poker basis. All this should makes sense does only does okay. Let's talk about. May i lab daily wisdom from j b smooth. This is fun last season of curb. What i did was a did some. Call leon's guided meditation promote curb that season ten and wanted to do me just taking three to Give us some shit in my character and get three of them. This is that. Like i do all the time. Anyway is a sadi's we're metaphors and playing around so addict coenen again just promoting stuff and then hit up a call me back if people say hey would j be considered the win a podcast segment on the show and i said yeah because the idea was because i did in the interview i was given coenen advice and doing these positive affirmations and i always do it with them all the time. "May i elaborate. One is just like a personal curiosity. Which is i love. Your comedians in cars watched it again today. Comedians in cars getting coffee with seinfeld. Now what we were just talking about comfortable in your own skin. Generally i'm probably overly confident my own skin. The two times i've i liked short-circuited one was talking to snoop dogg long ago and just mid conversation. Never been so aware of how fucking white i sound and it's starting to drive me crazy. I like white guy in eighty black eye routine. Like i'm snoop dogg on your third album and i was like i can't even being this conversation i feel like fucking honky okay. That was one time. And then the second time was seinfeld just because i can usually unplug from the status. You know like trick my brain into going like dude. I can't be unaware of the the huge comedy status. And i just wasn't really myself. When i communicated with them and i was just wondering was that stressful for you to be on that comedians and cardinal as open if that interview was jerry is very. What's the word He's a counterpuncher. I noticed you'll say something and his kind of comedy is to be contrary to what you just said. Yes i go what. I'm talking to people like jerry. Seinfeld larry a whoever people i love and respect. I watched their eyebrows. I looked into eyebrows eyebrows. Motion a rouse. I look them in eyebrows in eyebrows. Son when you meet a man. Straighten the eyebrows. Yeah no where. You're trying to sell something when you're trying to sell yourself when you're trying to salah idea you look the person in the eyebrows because that shows interest that shows like here bullshit mob rows A ton of ways and around telling everything that's the window into the soul for you. I promise you you gonna remember saying this shit right. Do gonna to talk to someone to look odd browse and you're gonna say oh shit. Jb's right this do what. i'm saying. Book the next book you write has to be titled looking at the eyebrows. Always always say that. I'm telling you right now. I believe you. I believe you. The eyebrows never lie. They both go to fuck up. That i see. I see what you're doing here. I agree with you like you play jazz on there and try to play classical with him. You're gonna suck. You don't know how to play classical. And when i met him. I have a different rhythm and cadences. Well then he does. But i think it was so deferential i was like oh i'm going to try to play opera with him and i don't know how to. Yes that's exactly what it is man. So his what you gotta do. You gotta play your own instrument player instrument. He's never heard before. Yeah and trust that. There's like no disrespect for doing your shed. Dally stand up. Comedians could meet another comedian that we'd never met an ally and somehow it will feel as though we've known each other forever because we love to give and take but i'd be jerry until after i did the season where we had the seinfeld season and then he invited me to do. The marriage ref met backstage. But does only two element jerry. I'm just gonna mention as you're in the new spider man coming out which is fucking awesome..

"I gotta ask you a question. I know you're not allowed answer by and see if you can skate around. It is e a grouchy motherfucker. Like is the guy that you just respect so much that you're allowed to like you can be around him and you just have ultimate patients for the fact that he is grumpy. Motherfucker to larry's tv larry in israel larry. Tv larry has shit with him and then real airy got shit with him but two different shits two different things across the tour. Is it up for tv. But larry so genuine. He's so larry. North ramya when i worked at tna and people are talking how they're intimidated by lorne now. Opera got there. I think i was a little bit. 'cause even now you know how long as always when you go down to the studio levels this fucking hallway goes like the end of this ship the matrix. It's like a block because the building takes up a whole block. What's this is the most uncomfortable ship with you. Turn a corner right. You hit down a hallway. The next elevator is all about a block away so what lorne turned the corner. Come down the hallway. That's a long walk looking at each other towards somebody too long. holy shit they walk walk. Walk walk walk your on holy shit and i'm to bed shit. I i knew that halfway point it was a bathroom so i made a heart has left got bathroom at the halfway point on his way and cut in the bathroom percent ladies or miserable. I didn't give up. I could do it too much. But at the wow i got real comfortable. Not welcome about bastiat he knew. Marty friedman my improv guy. I'm gonna guess that he liked you a bunch because someone who knew him super-duper well said to me you know he's really attracted to people who are just comfortable in their own skin. I thought that was an interesting observation. You obviously are like the apex of feeling comfortable. Your own skin. You know what i say. I use this term all the time. And this is the perfect term to use it out loud or in your head. But i learned the show. My is you know what i mean. Now sonia azmi's this you on the and you take over you drive until they tell you. Let me drive until you tell you slow funk how you come in here you come in high and then allow them to pull you back. You know exactly how to pull back. What you don't know is you can turn it up. You don't know how to turn it up. No one does down a little bit. You know how to lower your voice your attitude you know how to turn it down a little bit so that's kind of been my formula. I'm consistently show my eyes because it's easy to show your way and tell you put your pants with a bit. You know how to all your pants up and say your parents dallas a little bit. You're like all the way you look like a six year old being at the urinal right not yankel to crack to me. That's the only way to move in your life because you have engaged to play with. Now you're presented a brand that is uniquely yours and you get those we talked about you get those fucking swings man get additional swings because a bunch of pitchers who want to throw that ball to you okay. "Right and they couldn't have sex no more so i was giving larry dapper because harder must be you. Stay my sister and on you can tap. I should know more you on go to me. Massive sick larry. She's sick assets and now he's faced changing like he's realizing that he got a break up with it because can have sex with no more than fifteen minutes. Three of praising him saying. I put a statue of him in the center of the city. You're going to be dry. Dick man is silly black. You can do in your character because your character has rules no chill button at. He never has to pay the bill yes straight liberating site. The thing larry does see. I've got a rule. I got rules. Number larry one thing is a mix. Sure i'll give larry something. He didn't know about leeann because what that does is that creates more forks in the road. He doesn't have oregon. You don't wanna fuck. You came from all. He shows up season six his sisters there and he made us up at home. You didn't fuck zeev. That's all but if i keep giving little tidbits of information for where i came from. I'm bringing him to life which in turn creates more segues more folks in a row law branches to him that you can use at another time. That's why i do a lot of quotable lines that i can always pull up again. Genetic s one timer new orleans tuna film malaika flew out to new orleans right so we mature restaurant. I'm helping her indycar. Somebody did a drive by and said get larry fucking job. I look as they drove by getting an ass. Larry so quotable stuff like that is able to be recycled because you have gotten this pink on the character that that's him and dudes like your character do have like twelve and you hear him nonstop. It's not like that's not grounded. Ca- you're grounded in the character now. Monica was on the show this year. And i've never been more jealous. I had two lines. I don't know if the gut cut out or didn't yeah. I got to be on it. It was it was crazy. Thank you isn't it. So unique l. e. s. o. c. You do lines you get one time to do it. And it's kind of going with the same energy behind you. Don't get the same continent for the first time. I get him on his heels. He's laughing change it one time. He got mad at me because he thought he figured it out right. Stop laughing and extra takes us all k- indicate he thinks he's figure this shit out. So i thought of a new line. I'll tell you something. Almost may not come out of knows does fucking funny to sit was got mad at him fucking to takes up.

"I have a theory though. It's exactly what we've been talking about. Which is you. And i and monica film compelled to do the right thing. What is expected of us. And you do it better than i do. in monaco. does it probably better do it. But whatever larry is wish fulfilment he's like what if i got to just tell the person on the cruise ship. Why don't you suck a dick eating. How about this is a plan. You suck a dick. And i'll continue eating your id want do. And so larry is so fun to watch because he's virtually moving through the world like that. It's the greatest thing ever. And i bet it's fun for you to be on the show where you get to like you get to act the way that you would never let yourself act in real life. You never realize man. My character gives larry good bad advice. Meeting a failed logical. But it's not. yeah your character. I've known many people like your character. Which is you can have the gift of verbiage without being smart. It's weird like who've got a great vocabulary and they can spin yarns but if you really listen to what they're saying like what the fuck did he just say. That's the worst idea ever heard. And that's what your character is like. You can put it together rapid fire. You've got the words for it. It's only later we are like well. That didn't add up to anything and site. Improvising is so in a moment. If you're in this place and sometimes the words just come to you. Once you know your character you will only say. What's your character would say. I was just going to say. I have a couple characters like this. Sounds so lofty. But it's the fucking he knows. I don't know i start talking in that boys. He knows words. I don't you know like isn't that the most fun. It's so fun as so fun. Man travel that dude's car. And just like people all the time about leon character and i say always say stuff that leon would say in. You can almost probably j. B. can observe leon talking right like like i used to read ola. I be like oh my god. What's he fucking say right like. I really felt that way. Yeah it's gotta be so fun to hear yourself be leon and go like oh goodness. Wow that's i think. I could interview him at being interviewed his. Because of course we asked tatum's here and there according i have some delivery but you take that character in that carter has his own. Unique voice is own thoughts. You say should the only he would say and works. It works man and you could almost not sit down in right right right. Not wild like i can't really necessarily right that but yeah it's wild. You speak in. His voice candidly in his voice. As shit will come to you like. It's nothing because you're actually tapping into that character. Could say shit all day for me. That's how it started as my best friend. Aaron and i have a bunch of shared characters and we would just live in those voices for like eight hours a day. I'm trying to think. How long could do leon to rate one time. We did see the where. I was telling larry. 'cause he was bay. Mom's sister in season one. And what happened was she ended up getting sick.

Tom izzo and spy movie navigator dot com. Please join us as we're cracking the code of the pre title sequence in thunderball. So let's go. We see for the first time in the gun barrel. It's not bob. Simmons the stunt guy. It's sean connery goldfinger. It's fun and from this point on. We are actually going to see bond in the pre title sequences in the gun barrel and not a stunt man one a concept they needed to change the clip here as the aspect ratio for thunderball change from the previous movie so they couldn't reuse the clip that they had from the prior movies. One thing we haven't mentioned yet in our pre title sequence podcast series the origins of the gun barrel. We have mentioned the prato secrets in the nineteen. Thirty four million chrome passion in an earlier podcast. But we haven't yet talked about the ending to the nineteen th remove eight the great train robbery which ends with a gunman pointing the gun. View and firing. Some people think stain also influenced the golden barrel sequences that these things were around decayed and decades before bond was even written. So that's kind of cool and it actually is and then when you hear about how it was made it sound like it might have been in the back. Somebody's mind but when morris bender put that together he was just playing around and said. Hey if i shoot through this gun. Barrel i can do this. Pretty cool stuff. We had mentioned the pre tuchel secrets in the nineteen thirty four movie crummy that passion in an earlier podcast. We've seen in the first three. James bond ian production movies two circles that cross the screen and by the way. I have always thought those were the double. Oh that's just my take on it. I don't know it looks like it should be the double o but you're in thunderball when the gun barrel ends the gun barrel finally more to the first seen in the pre title sequence it doesn't just fade out like it did in the other movies it actually shows us part of the first seen within the gun barrel. First time this has happened. So this is kinda neat. This is cool and a great addition to the series and the circle shows the initials here j. b. and as the camera pans backwards it shows. Jb's blazoned on a casket. What again for about twenty seconds. We must think this is james bond dead again. It's the fourth movie by anne productions and his dead again in the beginning they just love killing them off right at the beginning of the movie. Yeah we remember from russia with love. This one feels more normal more inviting the viewer into a lot lighter feeling except it's a funeral the funeral the funeral with j. b. on it was really for jacques pouvoir who was specter number. Six who bond reveals murdered two of his colleagues. Now i'm wondering what is james bond doing at jack. Bu vars funeral it makes me wonder why a healthy. Why is he there. Now we don't offer killed to double o. agents or colleagues. Perhaps from the cia or the french bureau. Those french contact who's credited as mademoiselle the port says at least you've been saved. This will be one of the most challenging budgets this government has ever had to craft, but I know there are willing partners in the General Assembly. Compromise, hard work and a willingness to make tough decisions is going to be required of all of us. The state is currently facing a $3 billion budget deficit.

J.B. Bickerstaff on the NBA Strike and Racial Justice
"Us today is the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Also, the greatest interim head coach and the history of basketball. He is now three for three. With the Houston Rockets, the Memphis Grizzlies at now the Cleveland Cavaliers interim turned head coach J., B. Bickerstaff. Thanks for coming on with us. Man I appreciate it I guess that's an honor to say. Then the greatest coach of all time but I appreciate you having me man. Looking forward to the conversation so. What were you thinking last night as the Milwaukee, bucks don't take the floor and it becomes a reality that. There's not going to be a playoff game and then we see the way it plays out through the evening. We saw your tweets couple of them went viral by the way Jay bickerstaff on twitter. Now love that but you really some poignant words to say and so I just take me through your day and experiencing that somebody in the NBA. You know they did a good job of keeping their thoughts to themselves and it was really a surprise. You know normally something like that is GonNa get out you know but they did a great job of keeping it to themselves organizing it in making it a powerful statement You know I can't speak enough about the power of their voices and what it means to communities and people all over the world and all of our country for sure So you know it's a powerful statement and that's what people don't what some people don't want to give credit where credit is due Did, not know the outcome of what was going to happen. You. Know they didn't know what their sacrifice could possibly lead to as far as repercussions from the League or from TV ESPN fans whatever it may been, but they still had the courage to do it. And that says a lot. It says how important it is to and how important it should be to all of us. What do you think? How do you think you would have handled it because to hear it coaches were still getting ready for that game players really kind of did this on their own in the locker room and it's within an hour of game. and. So I'm sure you can attempt to relate to the coaches and kind of what was going on. If you put yourself in that position, how do you think would have played out because I can only match the stress of Getting Ready for a playoff game is is something already and then you walk in and your player said, we're not playing tonight. And I think the first thing is you show support this isn't something has popped out of the Blue I'm sure that there have been a ton of conversations with bud in his guys about the circumstances he's got some very powerful guys and you saw what George Hill Janas. Had to say how it's impacted them. In, affected down extremely difficult way. So I'm sure they've had some conversations. But in that moment you show support you know you ask questions. You help guide or whatever the plan may be but you're there as a resource, a tool because again, you're not getting in the way of. Two, powerful a moment. It means too much a this time in our society what's going on? So you're there as a resource a shoulder to lean on if they need it. It seems to me that minor standing from talking to players and coaches and exects. Slow last day is that it is clear that the bubbles as a success in terms of quality of play in terms of health and safety. But a lot of people fail that it's been a failure on the league's part in terms of capitalizing the fact that everybody's there twenty two teams started there now thirteen remaining and it's been a failure to creatively find ways to take advantage of this platform. I mean. To me yesterday that Jaylen Brown tweets out that he wants to leave to go protests and the feeling is that he should be able to make more of an impact being from the bubble and utilizing that platform and player seemed to be a frustrated with the fact that they can't creatively use that platform right now and it seems to me like everything that happened yesterday is just the players taking that into their own hands to accelerate this. And I think that's what the players do. Right I think when all these things happen and you know the players lead nothing best. What's the most fantastic part of this is you know we are looking for voices in our society to push us over No human being has more influence or larger platforms than are NBA players. So we expect them and we're depending on them to lead us. They're leading US where our so called leaders have failed us. They're trying to pull us all together and it's for the right reasons. You know what? I mean this isn't a selfish caused. This isn't a divisive 'cause of this is a cause for equality and humanity of everybody should be able to get on board with and we need their voices in their platform. And we'll follow suit.

Meat processing workers fear health risks despite increased pay
"Well a fourth USDA food inspector has died of the corona virus that comes as the meat packing plants they inspected become hot spots for outbreaks at least ten thousand meatpacking workers across the country have been infected likely far more and at least thirty have died Kim Cordova as president of the U. F. C. W. local seven union which represents workers in Colorado and Wyoming including meat Packers she joins us now welcome thank you for having me well let's start with the workers that you represent several thousand workers for the food processing giant J. B. S. what has happened to them since this pandemic began how many have gotten sick so we have had seven deaths in the Greenlee put facility so I believe we have the largest death toll for the entire country total for our plant we have three hundred sixteen positive cases but we have not had testing for all of the workers so they did not until this week even offer testing for a symptomatic workers is so the plant was closed back in April after the third death at the plant so they are back in operating again but yes we've had several deaths since the plan was re opened and what are the conditions like at this point in the plan is the facility save how close together or the workers were kind of protection do they have so while the plant was closed the company did make some improvements to the plant like in the lunch rooms break rooms they put plexi glass dividers that on the fabrication side of the floor they did put metal dividers that they have markings on the floor to identify six foot of social distancing their staggering breaks also they do not have the highest level of personal protective equipment like respirators but without daily testing and they opened up that plant without testing all of the workers we've seen the numbers start to move up again you know the plant was about a hundred and twenty somewhere around there positive cases those were workers that were had symptoms that were tested at yesterday's numbers that we have three hundred and sixteen and they just started offering voluntary testing but out of sight that's not on the plant you know on the plant site you have to drop five to a community college and get tested and they also have the testing during work hours so they are going to have to do something about that personal protective equipment and areas in the plant where you just can't social distance well what do workers tell you are they glad to be going back into work or they're afraid you know a lot of workers are scared they need to be able to pay their rent and provide you know a living for their families a lot of workers are still grieving the death of their co workers and as well as their family members that died so we still have workers that are on ventilators you know we know of one family that soon have to make it to the you know the most horrible decision to take their family member there JB it's a J. B. as she's a JBS worker off the ventilator or you know she will be on the ventilator for the rest of her life in a coma so it's it's a really bad situation for the workers Kim let me ask you this question because there are a lot of listeners probably hearing you talk about this and wondering whether they ought to just stop buying meat for the moment because they don't want to contribute to the situation what would you say to Americans who are hearing this and they're worried about being part of the problem there is a way that you can run this plant and keep the food supply chain going it we need to run it safely so when the president of the United States states invoked his executive order you know he failed to provide any type of safety mechanisms or invoke you know strong safety laws enforceable laws that would be number one so you can run the food supply chain if we had safety controls in place so there needs to be some real change in those industries and you can continue to continue the flow of the food chain but we need to have it say for the work force let me finally ask you you represent another group of workers the Kroger's grocery store workers in Kroger's has announced that it is ending here pay for workers this weekend that was an additional two dollars an hour that it was giving to workers during this crisis what what are your workers saying about that well they're really upset because we're not out of the woods yet you know with the states opening up these workers are going to be put but you know they're still at risk they have to often work you know address customers face to face whether helping and assisting them and for the company to take the bonus away with the workers don't understand that because the companies have profited the most Kroger has they've had record sales but they're taking the pain away from the front line workers and so we're hoping that croaker reef you know rethink their decision and provide that additional two dollars for these workers that have really risked everything there's that their health and safety as well as their family members that is Kim Cordova who is president of UFCW local seven union in Colorado and Wyoming she represents meatpacking employees grocery store workers and more thank you so much for joining us thank you Jeremy have a wonderful have a
