Study says warming-fueled supercells to hit South more often
"Research suggests that a larger part of the south faces an increasing threat of deadlier storms. A new study warns that more populous southern states like Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee can expect warming fueled supercells that generate killer tornadoes and hail as they edge eastward. Experts say the supercell stormed at devastated rolling fork Mississippi is a single event that can't be connected to climate change, but it does fit the projected and more dangerous pattern. Supercells are sky filling updrafts of powerful winds that can last for hours, the study in the bulletin of the American meteorological society also says the storm season will start a month earlier than it used to. Turning the Transgender Tide With Riley Gaines
"Now is Riley gaines. A former professional and professional former college athlete and swimmer who had a compete against Thomas, the man who is a cheater and she should have probably won the national championship if it wasn't for the man. Riley, welcome to the program last time you were here. We made a lot of headlines. And so welcome back. Well, thank you so much for having me on again, Charlie. Of course. All right, I'm gonna play this piece of tape for our audience. This is an ESPN little biopic, if you will. Celebrating women's history month by showing a man. Thomas, play cut 18. In 2022, swimmer Leah Thomas became the first transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division I championship by winning the 500 freestyle. The Texas native competed for three seasons on the men's swim team at the University of Pennsylvania. She began her transition after her sophomore season. She said she holds her persistence, serves a larger purpose. People will say, oh, she just transitioned, so she would have an advantage. They could win. I transitioned to be happy. Why are the women at ESPN putting up with this? I don't know, Riley, your thoughts. I have no idea why the women are putting up with this. I don't understand. It's like they don't see the irony of celebrating a man during women's history month. How are these women okay within? It begs the question, where are the feminists? Where are the women? Where is the group who wore the pink hats? Who wanted to empower women real women? I can't even answer that. I will say though that I just admire states shield who's an ESPN reporter. She does SportsCenter, I believe. And she stood up to this and she said this is wild. This is wrong. Your Daily Prayer
A Prayer for When the Pressures of the World Weighs on You
"Even though the pressures of looking a certain way change with the seasons, that does not mean their effect on our psyche is any less damaging or intense. We see that in the number of depression cases, bullying, and even deaths by suicide in teenagers today. Whereas the world is a liar and flighty, we know that our lord and savior Jesus Christ is the way the truth and the life. He has always constant. He is always loving and always faithful. We know that our lord looks at the heart as the standard of beauty. Scripture tells us that the lord chose a small young David out of his physically strong and older brothers to be the king of Israel. God also reveals to David in the psalms, how he creates each and every one of us. He tells him that we are carefully created. We are fearfully and wonderfully made. The fact that our souls are the ones that will exist after death, and our physical bodies will die and turn to dust, shows how much our character our personality and a soul that chooses the lord for Salvation matters above our physical appearance. Let's pray. Dear lord, I know that the world speaks loudly and convincingly that the only thing that matters is the way we look. In any other message is patronizing and the lie. But I pray that your message about our inner beauty and intricate creation will overcome the lies of the world. I pray that everyone knows how beautiful they are inside and out. That the mechanics of human attractiveness is far different than narrow and shallow narrative of popular culture. More, be with young teenagers and adults who are inundated with images deemed as beautiful and acceptable in today's society. I pray that they know your truth and hope for a better tomorrow that is not dictated by social media. I pray for their parents that they have the right tools to navigate their children's anxieties perceptions and mental health. I pray that we all know who we are created by and how we were created. We pray for your guidance and overwhelming presence as the world tries to yell, lie, and manipulate us into looking a certain way to be happiness successful. Help us drown out the voices that come to steal, kill, and destroy. John ten ten. We love and trust you with all of our hearts, our lord, our God. In Jesus name, amen.

This is cut 5 baron your reaction. So here's the thing, I think these are people who are in the political class, journalists class, politicians, and like D.C. in particular, they get mad, I don't do the cocktail parties. I don't like rubbing elbows with other people. I like doing my job and then spending time with my family. That's just what I do. Why the Deep State Needs an Indictment Now More Than Ever
"Now that the 2024 campaign season is starting in earnest and Trump's poll numbers improve with each passing day, the organism known as the deep state has been forced to react to protect itself. And indictment now would trigger all sorts of legal maneuvering that could delay a trial until a day after the 2024 election. But who knows what their plan is? With multiple investigations into multiple nothing burgers, it's pretty safe to say that the deep state is leaning hard on legal tactics. On one side of America's forefront of laws, we have Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg. On the other, we have special counsel Jack Smith. And somewhere in the middle, we have congressional Democrats led by Jamie Raskin. Between the three of these legal loggers, the forest of laws should be completely clear by midsummer of 2024, if not sooner. But you can't deny that Thomas more is right. Embracing this any means necessary approach to law is a bad idea. And not just for Trump and his supporters, many Democrats are too caught up in their enthusiasm. It really looks like they are completely unaware of the unintended consequences here. They need to slow down and ask themselves if they really want to live in this new legal landscape. Republicans who have not spoken up about this should also ask themselves, is this the kind of country that I want to live in, where political opponents are jailed and where basically in a third world country? Think about all the ways in which the law has already been twisted out of all recognition.

There Is Nothing New Under the Sun...
"Today, we're going to talk about the impending arrest of Donald Trump. But before we do, let's remind ourselves that estranged things seem now. There really is nothing new under the sun. As children of the west, we have access to deep stores of experience and knowledge. We've been down this road before. There have been many episodes in our history where evil men gain power. And then run amok. For example, take the tale of sir Thomas more. The man who once was this popular and favorite servant of King Henry. His background was in law. He was an attorney, a judge, and a statesman. At the height of his career, he was made lord high Chancellor, a position that makes spiritual author with parliamentary and legal authority. In other words, a very high position. But sadly, he ended up losing that position over his religious beliefs. You see, he was what our current day FBI would label a rad trad. The king couldn't live with him having those beliefs, so he canceled Thomas more. The old fashioned way. By beheading him. The story of Moore's rise and fall is commemorated in the play and movie a man for all seasons. If you haven't seen it yet, you really should give it a watch. But the themes of law and justice, especially as they impact the tension between church and state are extremely relevant to our lives now. One particular scene feels especially pertinent to our current situation, where a former president is being railroaded through reckless legal machinations.

Like most people would say, no, I don't want to finish. They tap out or you hit a lot. You're like, I'm not going anymore because they split you up from your group in a lot of the long walks and now you're just by yourself. I'm jumping to I get scared. Yeah, I don't do well. My buddies love to come up and scare me 'cause I'll jump quick. This is from around the funniest conversation they had on a parcel rundown was. They came up with the idea that once every Halloween season a haunted house should be able to kill one person that goes on. So you add that. They get to kill one person, each season. See, that's where I kind of agree. I don't have a die hard. I don't know all the comic books. I don't know all the backstory. When I see a certain character on the screen, I get up more for one than the other, and that's Batman. I'm almost embarrassed to give an answer because I lived with Robbie Fox for almost four years, and that guy, like he knows. He knows what he likes. He knows his Batman tattoo. He's got a Batman tattoo. So for me, he does, yeah, it's cool. And so for me, he's a Dave girl tattoo, too. He's got he's got an oasis tattoo, he's got a lot of stuff. He's got the feather. It's sick. So I feel like claiming that I have a favorite superhero isn't like an actual claim. Rigs? I'm gonna say Iron Man because Iron Man two, I just find to be such a good movie. I think his character in that is so awesome. He's funny. He's rich. He's intriguing. I think that, but that's not. That's like so separate from the actual comic book. I did the comic book people would be like, go fuck yourself that has nothing to do with it. 6 song, too. Those movies, the Iron Man movies are awesome. Like Batman's pretty good, but I mean who wouldn't love to have the Iron Man? So you guys going three Iron Man's here? Holy smokes. Well, the problem with that. I mean, the first Iron Man would be like the least superhero Y person. This is true. I didn't know I was gonna walk into that man. Iron Man and Batman are basically synonymous. I guess they're the same. Yeah, they're both too rich guys. I guess so. I didn't see this is why I almost didn't want to say it because then I was going to get judged. No, no, no, you're not getting judges, I guess me, presenting the question, who is our favorite superheroes to get three iron mans and one Batman? I would say though The Batman one is a little childish, like this guy who turns into a bat. I mean, at least like Superman is like your judgment. I don't know. All right, but Iron Man, he just puts on a badass suit. He doesn't go around claiming like I'm a fucking suit. Batman Sue's fucking badass. Right, but he themes it. He like themes it, which is weird. Like, why is he decided? This right here is why comic books prevail because everybody just argues about who their favorite one is and they get excited when the movies. Well, they got the new Batman coming out in 2022 and the trailer dropped yesterday and it's just like, you watch that trail and tell me that that guy's not the coolest fucking dude of all time. How many views do you think that trailer already has on YouTube? I looked it up earlier. It's got to be over a million. Came out, came out a day ago. Yesterday, how many views do you think it has? That is where you're gonna charge us a 120 bucks a year, and then that's it. Then also, if you for the majors for the big tournaments, put it wherever else you want it. NBC, golf channel, but it has to live on PGA Tour dot com for the people that want to pay extra that they'll never miss a swing, okay? No matter what. I've got an idea. The succession of the pit plan, getting people getting brands of golfers, very like, I don't know, well, sought after that you actually want to listen. You talk about home, kisner, et cetera. Create like a rev share program where you can subscribe to golfers, where you pay, and then they're just mic'd up and you just listen to everything and watch everything that kisner does, home, and you can just pay for insights into that. That would be amazing. So then you're awarded the golfers with like more subscribers as they work Thursday through Sunday. That would be insane because I would definitely subscribe to my favorite golfers and actually like if I could hear every part of their conversation and you whatever signed some BS legal form like I don't care if they curse or say whatever. I think that would be awesome. So it's like only fans forgot. I don't think. Right. I don't think the golfers are going to sign up. Right. Dude, and then he should be able to pick his broadcast team and it could be us that we're just the broadcast. I would watch the raw footage. You think they have conversations like this at the PG tour? Are they ever creative? Are there is there anyone? Is there any synapses happening? No, because sometimes what they do is if they do start a broadcast late, they will tape delay it and start at the beginning and they're like, look, we did it, and it's like, fuck you, I have Twitter. I already know what happened. You ever see click? Yeah. You know when he stops, he stops and just smacks the fucking guy right across the face. Yeah. I want to do that to every single person that works for PGA Tour live. Just stop time. Rip a fart in their mouth and just smack them. It's just like the movie click, dude. Because I'm fucking stupid. Walking stupid. It does seem that there is there has to be a level of complacency with we've already got our ad dollars. It doesn't matter what we show. It would be so funny. We have no incentive to show on the inside. Necessarily what people want to see. So you guys, you get what you get. We don't care. That is not how a major sport should operate. Because I think we're going to put how they operate. I think that's just at one. I don't know, Frankie just said. Stacey, Stacey, somebody shitting my suit. Eternal is is this just something that is worth ignoring I mean what do you mean. I mean like this as he says say this is just a conceit to like get his publisher to publish this thing Well so is it just worth ignoring them pretending like it's not there. I think it's worth mentioning a especially in the context of shawshank. Because i think that is kind of i mean. I think that's the reason that shawshank works in the way that it does. And i don't just mean this novello but i mean like the film like what the jury is what it's about. I think that idea of hope springs. Eternal is core to to how it works The others i will agree with..

I cannot think of another author who kind of does the same thing and then two. He actually doesn't do it that much. I was like looking over the list of books and preparation here to see how many times he's done this and it's only been like two or three throughout the course of his career of but nevertheless This kind of the big one. "Has the flow of the game. There's no hold on his offensive game. He's able to get his teammates going as well. He's probably the most unguardable player you know in a in a short list of guys The the can't be stopped. I think the clippers throw their pride out the window and start running doubles at this guy trapping this guy doing whatever they can because one on one is not working with them. Well so that's a question. I would have for you from an xs and os standpoint. He either scored or assisted on all but six bastards right right and we have other guys like that in games. We've seen the the box and steph basically right the four guys on steph curry. We've seen how damian lillard has three on him. Every time he he crosses the median line. What would be if you were defending. If you were on this year's clippers team and defending against luca would you want to be you have to run people at at the blitzes pick and rolls. I think you have to fight over some screamed. I think they switch to easily some. You know this is such everyone. Switch every position now but back when we first you know when i first came in we're fighting over picks chasing him over running them into the big make. Sure the biggest up on the pick of. We're not blitzing if we're not showing we're giving different looks. They haven't really get they've given him different defenders. Having them different looks all year he has to do is when choir has called someone out and get those guys off from so to me. Those guys had to fight or pick trap. Run doubles adam. And maybe even deny him the ball. He's unstoppable right. Near carlisle through real curveball. You started that massive lineup right. They played zone and the clippers weren't ready for it. And then luka despite having all that size out there goes for nineteen points in the first quarter and gets it gets it going at rick. Carlisle won the strategy game with thai lou in that last night. So you may not know how the mavs are going to start tomorrow night's game. That's a factor. I will say that's been one of the fun things about this series though because i loved ties adjustment a couple of games earlier with going small rate and i thought okay. That's interesting. let's see what happens. And the mavericks really couldn't handle that change. And then they came back in dallas. And you've got two coaches who are really great coaches so. I think we'll see a little bit more tonight next up. We have chris..

"Into with streetlights over spotlights. All the comparisons to the lakers the disappointing second round exit after being up three one in that series last year and then nobody would have predicted a first round playoff exit this year especially after they essentially pick their playoff opponent in the final couple of days of the regular season. Well as you mentioned. Luca al played kawai last night. And that's not a drag on coli. That's going to happen. Lucas all time. Great player. I think the problem is games one and two of this series the way they performed in those games and now they've got to pay for it so i actually have been spending the last few hours and this is gonna sound ridiculous researching. What steve bomber did microsoft when they had failures because unfortunately for him he had a couple of giant failures when he was he. A couple of huge successes. We're seventy billion. He a big failures. Remember the soon. Didn't work to see what they did. But but honestly i think when you look at it they have not gotten the requisite point guard in here and you look at the organization. You can look at other things that are issues. Therefore situation is really not excusable. And so that's why i think if there's a penalty it's be by the front office but it's not like those guys have not done a good job. They have as always just going to probably have to pay my. Let's keep in mind that it takes a handful of years to get a good team up and rolling. And i think the fact that they play in l. a. and there's so much pressure from down the hall to win something win win win because they never have won this team's only been together for two years and they really their star matt coli sign for two years. You're right you're right. But the stars in both seasons really haven't got a chance to jail because they've been in an ounce and consistent so it'll be interesting to see you know i still feel like they have a chance to come back and make some noise in this series but at the end of the day if they happen to lose i mean to give something only two years before it has to be blown up as crazy going to blow it up. I don't think they're why not necessary. Blow it up but if kawhi walks you're starting again. You'll still have paul george and some other pieces but is the centre focal that team. So if he walks after two years that's really up to him but to me it's crazy because it's really only been two years and you know any team that's made a run or a dynasty. Take some time. Luck lakers got lucky. Getting abyan going right away but it doesn't always happen it. I don't think anybody knows how coy feels. We learned that a couple of years ago. But right you can relate to this because you spent a lot of career trying to play in southern california or at least on the west coast. You sacrificed a lot. I know you left a lot of money on the table. And that's for a podcast. Quiet sacrificed a lot and did a lot to get here. I don't think he's walking out the door again. He has not shared what he's thinking. In fact i sat down with him earlier this year and he very specifically declined to answer that and that is completely his right. If i if you made me put money on something my money would be. Uncle is staying here. I think that he wanted this fit with this team. And i think he's dedicated to seeing it through. But i do think that this organization is going to have to take a long look at itself if they have a second round playoff exit and a first round playoff exit because as doc rivers said last year when he was still the coach the goal is not even to just get to the conference finals. With this franchise. The goal was a title. And this would of course be falling short but who knows maybe they make a stand in dallas and this is what's great about these pivotal games. It could be just part of a great story right. It could be one step along the way where they stood up and showed how good he they were and then went on to win a title. So you know. Let's talk about more though the lakers health situation. Anthony davis currently listed as a game time decision after missing game five with that groin injury Lebron james also has never in his team playoff appearances lost in the first.

"Cousins is shooting forty three percents at the rim forty three percent at the rim among among bigs that places them in the second percentile. Not he's in the top two percent at the bottom two percent ninety eight percent of all players classified as biggs by cleaning. The glass are shooting better than demarcus cousins. the rim. he's a seven footer. Who is known for being this powerful physical specimen. Who's who's an incredible athlete. And he's shooting forty three percent at the rim. That's a bit alarming. He's also not shooting at the rim. Because as i alluded to he's checking a lot of longer distance shots he's seventy nine th amongst centers in rio plus minus a defensive real plus minus last. I checked he was never great in that category anyway and he's been on a decline for years. He's just not a plus player chris. The the rockets were minus five point. Seven points perodua possessions with him on the court. He hasn't had a plot a positive plus minus since that twenty seventeen eighteen season when he was with the pelicans. He's just not a plus player. Now if you get them in there for ten minutes just soak up some time play fouls maybe get a couple of shots around the rim if he can make them fine but like i just don't see based on everything i just laid out where the value is for him right now. Yeah as i survey the nba landscape brooklyn just seems like the only team. That would take a flyer on him. And i based that less on inside knowledge of what's going on in the nets front office. Then what my eyes were showing me in. My eyes have shown me that the nets signed anybody because they have been signing everybody. They sign iman shumpert off the street. They sign andre roberson off the street. Now they just let both those guys go but they're bringing them back on ten day contracts financial move at this point so the nets are willing to bring in bodies and see if those bodies can have an impact. There's obviously a familiarity with kevin durant cousins spent that ill-fated season with golden state with durant on the roster there. So maybe there's some chemistry a connection with durant. But i don't see any other team in the league taking a flyer i initially thought the raptors might've been convinced otherwise i just if you look across at the contenders if the lakers. Don't jump on him if the clippers don't jump on him the bucks are certainly not gonna like. There aren't a lot of teams. I thought the he might consider it. Because you know pat riley if he sees a modicum of talent you just grabs. The guy says. I'll deal with the rest but i'm not so sure i see that happening either in miami so i do think that it's more of an educated. Guess here i do think at some point cousins winds up in brooklyn if he finishes the year there. I don't know like it may just be one of those things where all right. Let's see if you compliment the andre jordan maybe we can stop playing jeff green so much as undersized five and we'll see if andre drummond gets bought out and if he does get bought out we're gonna kick you to the curb and say goodbye but by the way that's the thing like if i'm the nets okay. Yes they're desperate for size. They could use another beefy seven footer. Even one in his condition as cousins after all of his injuries maybe ten minutes. A game from cousins is an upgrade over more jeff green or small ball other small options..

"Into the booker stuff because i think booker's going to be on the team. Anthony davis is not going to play. That will help booker booker. I think we'll be the again for the second year in a row injury replacement on the all star team. I kind of joked that james jones should change the numbers on it or change the date on his statement from last year. Where he said devon booker is an all stars re released it into the world but hooker is quick quick cyber on this. How do we feel about gems family members agents issuing statements or in the case of terrell harris who is both tobias harris whose father and his agent like. I'm i all for parents. Being proud of their kids and wanting them to succeed and everything but like go little league data on this especially when you're also his agent. It's it was really strange. Maybe maybe we should put a moratorium on reporters asking for it. They just don't have the. Yes yes amen alleluia. don't do yes yes match. You expecting dad to say something other than my son should have been an all star who i also represent as as as a registered agent. I mean how. Frank neale aquinas. Dad probably says he's an all-star like everybody's whatever it's fine like i say this kind of put a button on this hour. Yeah there's you see on social media like expand the all star rosters. I say no to that like it should be an exclusive club. If you expand the all star rosters to fifteen each and go thirty deep water down like it should be a difficult call every year even if it's done to the best possible way. There are going to be things to quibble with. I think though players. I think players wish it wasn't the coaches that made these and i say that only because i think the players would love to blame the media for this for your media members picking stars. Well it's not the. There's no fan voting involved in this. This is coaches picking reserve. So if you have a problem with devon booker not making the all star team if a problem with my continent on making the all star team with tobias harrison making the all star team. Look at your coach. Ask him who. He voted for because that who made the decision. Well to that point by the way like we have all sorts of transparency and all the awards voting these days like our votes postseason awards. Everybody can see exactly how i voted. How you voted. I don't think they reveal how we voted on the all star. But we you know. We all made our ballots public anyway. A lot of us. Yeah we know at least the order of how. The fans ranks the all-star starters we know how the media ranked all-star starters with our twenty five percent vote and we know what the players votes were for their twenty five percent portion of the starters but the reserves chosen by the coaches with absolute opaqueness. We see we have no idea whether a guy was close. We have no idea whether a guy was put up at the front court spot and somebody else was in the wild card spots we get no sense of what the ranking was. There's no transparency whatsoever. I don't expect it..

"You strip away all context but again if that's part of it and we're not gonna punish guys for bad teammates are we punishing trae young for the wrong reasons. Because the hawks have underachieved is that are we saying. It's actually trae young's fault like we don't have a consistent application of this and that's that's probably all of us by the way everybody has a little bit of a sliding scale and you make exceptions for guys that you think were deserving for some other on some other basis the raptors started out really slow but they have recovered nicely. But they're still only five hundred. So if we're going to cape for for like say fred. Vanvleet who i think was a worthy candidate and then again. If it's about underachieving chris it's about. Do you have better talented around you. And we're going to judge you based on that context within the neither the celtics should make it. And i thought both tatum and brown should make it. And i'm glad they both did make it but the celtics who i think. We'll talk about later or one of the biggest disappointments of the season at the moment and both guys made it so again. It's more about the consistency to me than anything and the lack thereof. So i might you. I agree with you on middleton who i think should made it. I do think about bio should've made it bam's stats are just as strong as they were last year when he was the first time all star plus he plays defense and i also think that there should be something to incumbency like. I think if you're going to knock out an incumbent all star especially if he's playing just as well or better the following season then you have to knock him out and bamako bio if you want to compare stats with. Let's say i don't mean to pick on. Julius randle was absolutely deserving all of them were but would. I have gone on at a bio over randall yet. Probably by the way joyce randall. Almost identical stats to democratise. A bonus also did not make it but who wasn't all star last year and so it's about us didn't doesn't make it but randall does. Their stats are like almost identical. In every category there within percentage points of each other their pr is exactly the same. And bama's right in the same vicinity. He's scores a little bit less than those guys partially because he plays fewer minutes than those guys but as efficiency as way those guys he plays defense and a completely different level than those guys. Bam should amid middleton should made it in the west. I absolutely would have put in booker over chris. Paul and by the way. Since i have to hold myself to my own rule if i were gonna put middleton out of bio i would probably toss overboard a vuckovich and randall. Not because they're not deserving. Not because i don't like the magic he or the knicks but just like those i don't think outta bio and middleton militant especially like you'd never number two star on a true contender any plays defense and he's flirting with fifty forty ninety and he's been an all star last couple of years like again he was. He was the incumbent. Why are we throwing him off. Because everybody fell in love with a couple of stories elsewhere. I don't know..

"I would say this guy enters. The the levin middleton becomes the third member of this trio for one spot. Fred wli fred. Vanvleet is add. An awesome season and the raptors have surged in the last couple of weeks there. That awful started the season and they played a lot better than fred. Vanvleet is a big reason. Why so that's kind of like the three guards for one spot. I kind of circled howard when these when these came out. I don't really have a problem with julius randle because the knicks have been one of the surprise teams in the league. And randall has been the driving force to that so i think that three guards have one getting it. You can reasonably quibble with that. All right so i got a bunch of things but let me start with this just to kind of push back a little bit on a couple of things you said. Even though i agree on. Ought i mean first of all the heat. They were seven and fourteen now fourteen and seventeen. So they've gone seven three over. The last ten is that right. What did he say about. Seven three of the last ten coinciding with jimmy butler getting back. They're still missing drug. Each bam adebayo has been great from start to today. The heat of not been healthy. Jimmy butler was out because of covid. So if the coaches are going to punish bam out by jimmy butler who both were on the team last year both were all stars last year. If we're going to throw them off because the heat have not been as good lately. Well then one again inconsistencies here because they took vuckovich. Who's on a team. That's even worse and at least we know the heated these rebounding. They're they're coming back. They're going to be in the playoffs orlando. Magic are going nowhere. Nowhere not now not any time in the future that i can see so coaches again like okay if you going to punish the to heat all from last year because the heat started off slow with injuries and covert problems. What are you doing picking vuckovich. What are you doing to picking levin for that matter. So that's that's that's the first thing while we're on that subject if the standings matter if when matters as you and i record this the heater fourteen seventeen. The knicks are fifteen and seventeen. A half game better. So you'd rather go. Julius randle because the knicks are a half game better. You'd rather go. Zach levine on a fourteen to sixteen team because hang on hang on the knicks. The knicks like the knicks. Aren like that's like fifteen and seventeen greats heat fourteen and seventeen boo like different places. You know what i mean. But that's a problem but you can't. We're not judging on a curve or like like the knicks are doing better than expected. So we're gonna reward them with an all star berth under a little but who has more help though right like julius randle is not necessarily one man band there. But you could certainly make the case that on paper whether it's tyler. Hero duncan robinson butler when he's healthy bio has way more help absolutely which is why they were the eastern conference champs last season which is why we consider them a disappointment..

They're looking for a fastball. In a way by not be if we can start getting more specific about location and and really practicing that location the weekend. Identify pitchers those book locations. That are pitches. They going to play out so if a coach the coach keeps calling the pitch in a certain location. That that pits. Just ain't gonna play at. That's not the pitchers fault and so that's a strategy problem or it's just really something that we we out. Think ourselves based on what we just did. And i think the reality of it is as we started talking about this transition and we started talking about game planning and strategy and how do we transition from all season. Preseason and preseason in-season. I think the conversations that coaches are willing to have players players that have been doing work. You know the guys that have been really preparing that that spent the offseason doing work and trying to really get better what they do. Then i think coaches and players and and having those initial conversations about what they've been working on in the off season and then coaches kind of building on that instead of trying to radically change it just based on a practice schedule or based on this is what we do in practice and i think a lot of times coaches. We don't realize the impact of what some drills due to certain type of players and i think when we just do a drill to do a drill. Because that's what we're gonna do the you know the next fifteen minutes practice and we don't realize the impact that drew has on that player or on that pitcher. Then i think you know we wonder why. Some of these guys struggler. Why guys that are doing certain drills and and i think coaches we gotta we gotta be responsible enough to know our pitchers will enough are no hitters that hey not every hitter swings the same way and not every pitcher moves the same way and not every pitches a fastball. as the fastballs the fastball. And i think a lot of times as we're going transitioning and we're starting baseball practices. We start with these generic drills. Are these generic things. And i think a lot of times. The older especially for the older kids and the older players. Like hey man. A drill can kill a movement pattern. A drill can kill the way the kid gets and the way he thinks and and when it starts screwing with this thinking then obviously we're going to get mixed messages and we're not going to get the consistency that that they really been working in and trying to develop and i think a lot of times in early season problems that we see. We have that conflict of what they've been working on versus okay. What did they practice in the preseason and then all of a sudden that mixed message shows up and and they're just a little bit outta of sinker time or confused on opening day or opening week and they get off to that bad starting at just kind of snowballs from there. Yeah wha- what we feel of time is guide get real jumpy the jumping at baseball and and they're rushing their swing. We see it and the guy. Tell me the batting practice..

"And we start talking about you. Know for pitchers specifically. Everybody has a throwing program. If if you're a high school player college player you. You have throwing programmer you should. If you don't then you know we got deeper questions than what we're gonna talk about today but let's just assume that everybody's got that throwing program and and now that we're moving into our preseason bullpens and and literally you know what we want to take away from their book and and i think jeff this is where you and i see the disconnect all the time because you and i are constantly asking these guys that as they started high school practice and and and the guys that came home for from bob all ready to go back to college. It's like hey what what are we really doing. The master these pitches like what are you doing to really start getting the feel to start seeing the that pitch move and feel that pitch and then you know when you are literally throwing your bullpens. What are you taking away from it. And i think just asking that little bit of a deeper question drives the conversation. Almost to my. You know we have that kind of stunned silence at i like like what are you really talking about like. Hey man i'm working on my pitch now man like i wanna know seriously if we see here made you throw that pitch that specific location ten times could you do it again and again and again and again and again and then we said. Hey now it's three. Oh could you throw that pitch in and then the zone for a strike and then i think you start to see that light bulb moment. Happened for these guys like. Hey you know was baseball. And and in-season success in season his really that transition from what i'm capable of doing to what is what is my opponent trying to do to me and i think that's the emphasis that you and i like. We try to drive home to these guys that the off season is about you getting bigger faster stronger on your basil's your athleticism. Anything new that you wanna add to your gang. The preseason is about now we gotta start dialing in and really get focused on our baseball like what. What are we literally gonna use in season and really start refining and master in that and then you and i we focused in the last three or four weeks a preseason no matter who were sending off to get ready. It's like hey now let's start playing games. Now let's start strategically thinking we'll start. Start throwing specific bullpens that we call game plantains. Like you know what we're going to execute our game plan and so a lot of times. I use the analogy like nfl teams. Like you know they're game planning throughout the week then they then. They implemented package that they want to the face package. They wanna try to run against the defense. They're playing that week. And then the quarterback is going to go out there and the coaches and and they're going to run through this as they practice it. And so that way on sunday or saturday night or monday night whenever they're playing they don't show up shah you know there might be some adjustments that defense made and some different things that other team tried to do to your offense but the reality of it is..

"You know we got some individual stuff that we want to work on and then obviously we got the teen stuff we want to work on. And so i think a lot of times as coaches started started practice up and and it really depends on their philosophy is when we see the things that these guys had been working on the all season and then when they get with either the high school coach or the college coach and and it seems like the they start screwing with that player. They start making adjustments. They started seeing things. And i know it will be as sensitive subject with some of these coaches but the reality of it is as we started sitting here and helping these guys really understand all the work that you want them do this off season to get ready and to get better and improve and then i think a lot of times. We confusing young players. Especially because if we're really focused on our physical skills our fiscal capability and we don't help them really understand how that additional velocity your strength or power or whatever it was that they really like focused on this off season to improve. Get better at how we take that and and bill baseball skills with it and then specifically that individual players You know in the pictures and it's like how do we take that additional loss the empower and really turn it into quality pitches and i think sometimes that's lost in translation. We just automatically think that. Hey man we've got bigger faster stronger. I did the different workout man. I moved better. My mechanics are cleaner and somehow that magically turns into better pitches and and then eventually turns into the a better strategy and the truth is we. We know that we see that here. Every day that we drive that piece home you know what the our training his in offseason is got to lead to a us understanding how we use that that additional strength our explosiveness in the preseason to really refine and and really kind of what we call master our baseball skills that we're going to use that season and so i think inside of that that's the piece You know as we talk about that transition from offseason the preseason and then really how do we use that preseason practice and and to really dry making sure that we're ready the first week or two of the season because ultimately when we see guys struggle you know here in tulsa a lot of the times and and you know this jeff. You've done it longer here than me. You see that that if they don't have a good first week or i you you know three or four games then it almost kind of sets the mindset that hey man mike i'm going to be scrambling like everything i did is not working and it really does. It starts having a psychological effect on them. And so that's the piece that we talk about that transition literally than that. That's the thing that that today as coaches and players and parents van as we we have this conversation that if we don't take this piece serious and we just kind of look at this practice. And i'm just kind of killing time until you know the game start for real if we don't start have that mindset that strategic advantage mindset. Shift like we're going to start. Focusing on master pitches and having a strategy game planning then you know what we're gonna show up in first couple of weeks of the season and and we have some tougher competition and really start you know facing some hitters. That are ready are facing some features. That you know are ready. Then we're going to see these kids struggle. And and i think that's that's a conversation that you and i wanted to have today and kind of how do we avoid those pitfalls and i think a lot of it truly is is like the enchant of our practice..

"Apple take to hunting. Season is another interesting. Short from the tribeca film festival. A young woman that is approached by a unicorn for help. The film has a talented group of women behind an in front of the camera. I sat down with two of them. Had eleven who you may know from the magician stars as county and wrote the screenplay producer is in s isis and the film's director is shannon cohen who directed episodes of supergirl shadow hunters and the magicians. I sat down with eleven and isis. At roxy hotel at the tribeca film festival so first question is both produced. And you're so How did the story kind of come about many factors coming together. But my idea for the film came to me around the concept of a girl meeting a uniform in an unexpected place and i had the idea of a gas station and i just thought visually and just i guess as as if something like that could happen that would be fascinating to watch. And then the rest of the story sort of just came to me from conversations with people and imagining with his character wise and the rest of the pieces have found place and as far as putting it together. And what was that finding the right location absolutely what what was it. Whenever saint collaborative efforts. Hannah reached out me after she and shannon on a set of To shackle who dishes and work together and shannon and i the director had worked on number projects before and said you know i'd really love to sparta. This isn't how women's team. And so i said yes. I read the script. I thought was great. Met hannah and then from there. It was kind of a natural process. We we all have people that we've worked with and said you know would love to work with you again so that was what it was. I just reached out to the people that had said that and it just seemed all kind of flow. i mean we did this. Very grassroots Not a lot of money kickstarter fundraising campaign for about a month. That was horrendous. I hated it. But i mean that's how we've got the only way we could do it. Otherwise right yeah and location wise. Actually so shannon. Very busy working on the magician's but she did. Google googling remote gas stations because we wanted something where it would be okay to have a choice as uniform and just the atmosphere of it is meant to be evermore gas station in woods and shannon found this one that was about two or so hours from vancouver and she kind of zoomed in on google maps. That this looks pretty remark so call them off and they were on reservation. Land a native reservation land in British columbia canada and they was super awesome right from the beginning and i drove out there and it was absolutely perfect and i don't think it could gone any more perfect. I was the ideal location. The horse was a little bit challenging five. Bill they were just absolutely wonderful and Yeah we like you say couldn't have a better route to a cliche. Don't work with animals or children that the animal had been working gravy asli had to travel You know two and a half hours to get to. Because we shot over two nights we had A horse The one evening and you know obviously it's just like a human soon get tired so i think it got there and it just. It was tired and it was thirty six seven hours. I mean we. We made it work. We got what we needed and we were happy. And the good thing shannon also Raised you know lived in and worked with horses and rode horses so she knew everything about how to communicate with the animal. So i think that helped. I think she also had the patients. If she didn't. I don't think we would have. We would have struggled a lot more difficult but the way that she handled Just was so calm and and lovely It just work. Yeah yeah the crew was fantastic. Because where we are living right now in vancouver ev People work a lot in the industry. There's a lot of production going on. It's amazing yeah so you know. Crew were so highly skilled. But i was so blown away by their commitment and passionate about the project because they old work fulltime film jobs so sixty hour weeks. Who knows monday to friday and then came out to work with us on the weekends. Friday saturday night unpaid was all like everyone was working very reduced rate or for the love of it and you know what when that unical worked walked out onto sat. I remember brad. One of our camera. Operators this is like it was such a magical moments that are dp l. e. and shannon created with the smoke machine. Everything everyone was like in awe was so beautiful. She looked magical absolutely. Yeah and confessor. Better teams are and everyone's just as the mosquitoes. Yes we we were like. It was plague. Mosquitoes like literally. We bought sober much repellent and like those mosques but the team was incredible and they were just been so passionate and supportive about the show. So that's great. That's what we have to deal with. Tell us about character. A little bit stitches. Seems like what i've seen. She's she's working at a gas station. Maybe not where. She wants to be in hawaii where she mentally at the beginning. I didn't say kelly's fragile. But i think there's a i think she's a strong character. It hot but i think she has low self esteem and we see that through her post with addiction. And i think she's really trying to get herself on the right path and she's got this job. It's not where she wants to be in the end but it's it's giving her something to do. She's kind of making ends meet by. She definitely dreams of something bigger. And i think i think where she in the moment where she feels. She can't help the unicorn and there are things we edited with the script but for me that merman is halle not believing that she could do something like that. Yeah in a positive way that she could help help someone i think. She's really isolated herself as she works at this remote gas station late at night she she keeps people at arm's length that it's it's sort of a beautiful and tragic moment that she thinks she kind of helped this creature that has come to her for help but she is able to and then then that is turning point right and i think for the universe. They're both wounded in the sense physically emotionally mentally and hunted so they are kindred spirits. Yeah i find each other. Yes talked about your director. She's worked on supergirl. You mentioned magicians which is show. I've covered in talk to those folks really from the beginning So she's used to doing. Female centered kind of store. What did she bring to the table. We'll firstly shannon was recommended to me. 'cause i acted in a couple of episodes magicians and i got into nurse. Some at the Trump's team and i was talking to them about making a unicorn horn and they said. Hey you know. Have you found a director yet. And i hadn't they said you know shannon who was in the kammer team originally on no she was about to start directing for photography but.
