"The san diego padres in all these at-bats are you ready. You sit sitting. You have to be laid down. Don't sit down because it might be too much excitement. They were four for fifty to the padres had four hits in fifty two at-bats in this game there were thirty. Four strikeouts and fourteen hits. That's modern baseball. That's baseball in two thousand twenty one. But i'll get it a good part. It was in the fit in the fifteenth inning The the dodgers went ahead with two runs in the bottom of the fifteenth. Who do you think on homer. I'll give you three guesses as my mother would say an and the first two. Don't count of course it was the kid. Of course it was fernando. Totti's junior a two run jack. The tied up in the bottom of the fifteen. I love this when you go extra innings and the visiting team scores in the top team goes back ties it up and we got another game talk about that later on and then in the bottom of the of the sixteen. Aj pollock of the top it. Sixty aj pollock kits went out. And the dodgers prevail. Five to three There was a lot of baseball boss by what you look at this line score. Okay and again it just. It's like a buffet table okay. There were no runs scored between the ninth and the fourteenth through the fourteenth inning. Nothing with starting off. Every single inning started with with a runner on second base and the thing is why the dodgers grinding away because they have to keep winning these games because the giants refuse to lose and and pollock who was supposed to be such a big pickup for them before long before they ever got mookie. Betts finally wins the game for them. Oh my god it's it's i. I am sorry. I went to bed on it. Because what a fun game and yet of course. Then the the Inevitable guys who went over seven in this game yeah mcelwain offers end the and the i mean even even even tatty. He strike out four times in the gas. You know. I mean it's when you get when you get numbers this we're baseball's fun in number six. You get a game for example where the padres can go ten innings without a hit ten and longer than a game. They go an inning longer than a normal game. Don't get hit these strikes out. Four times still has has has a huge hit. Tie it up when you when you get into those extra innings. It's the magnitude of the extra innings that put the normal game in perspective. You know normally you get three or four at bats and that's it this time. Get seven or eight shots at it. It's what baseball is. It's what's based makes baseball fun to talk about. But one number. I would ask you bob and i bet you can't give it to me. How many people were left in the stands now in the sixteenth. Oh i don't know if you ever get. There is a fatigue factor. I'm looking at the standards and politics and it looks like there. Were some still to people there. And by the way mitch. This was a pitcher stool through yes nine innings bueller against sell. It was one one one to one and then it turns into war and peace. And it's tyler knows this he's dodger's fan. I follow the dodgers very closely. They're playing great. Okay the dodgers are playing great and they still can't get any closer right now than three games on the san francisco. John's dodgers intentionally walked eight padres. Another number intentionally guys in a game still want it by the league ran mitch. The dodgers had ten pitchers the padras at nine pitchers. Okay and it's just about every one of them. It's great last night. It just became one of those stories. Because i had to look twice when i woke up this morning and i said holy crap. Did they play a sixteen game. Would you say bob. It's the first game longer thirteen any. Nec's yes since since in the last two years since we went to the second base coming back with the day game today by any chance. Are they thursday sometimes day game. Talk amongst yourselves. I think tyler would. I wanted to ask tyler fee. Stayed up in washington the dodger fan and tyler up past my bedtime. Now it's just like it's got the rock and he's got the rockies at night. But no i. I went to sleep mitch. Mike pitchers duel bueller and snow. They were going back and forth. So i i kind of tuned out there which tyler assures her against darvish dot. The pitching studs sure was one of the few pictures they didn't use correct. But it's it's. I'm telling you if you're the dodgers right now and they want to win every game. Obviously okay but beulah out of there and the seventh inning that they've got to win games. I have a parting shot today. About how if you're one of the powerhouses you better win your division this year because people keep forgetting when they say oh. They're going for the wild card. They're going wild. Cards are one game seasons and and so the dodgers who again nobody saw the giants coming the padres guys. Is there a bigger disappointment in the sport this year than the santiago padres. They've they might be the gold silver and bronze manolis for disappointing teams. Unless you want to throw in the minnesota twins. I would welcome to give them the honor but it was awful matched against expectations. Yeah all the money they spent mitch and all the guys they brought in. Yeah there was a lawful. Eight games over five hundred. Yeah there's no question but the sudden mitch. There three games behind cincinnati for the second wildcard in the national league. There one game ahead of the cardinals who just never quite go away quietly have started to play better. Oh i'm tony. Some the policies are a huge disappointment. Because can you think of this pop. They've really had a cheese. Was out okay. But to not the reason they're playing the way they've been playing lately they've just been a catastrophic disappointment. It's just all around pitcher Pitching severe problems with pitching to the point where moscow was the only one left and you start with that but but they are. It's you can't exaggerate. How much hype. There was about them an off spending the money. They're going forward. Everything's great you know. And no it hasn't worked out. And they and they have the misfortune of being in in that division. You know the take the record and put it in the nfl east. And they're battling for first place their game behind outland. Instead of fifteen games behind san francisco we can always play that game in baseball divisions at the if they missed the playoffs. Guys i'm telling you. Aj prell is going to have some split into two ship in san diego because they were at all in win now chaim and again. We talked about this the other day. Mitch what were we talking about. All of april. The dodgers the padres. Oh good there's another dodgers padres series. Having having said all that mike their battle now maybe more with cincinnati than anybody else a hundred percent if they edge. Yeah and the cardinals but they've got they've got a few games in the cardinals But if they edge out cincinnati and they get into that wildcard spot. And then as you point out one game you know. This is what baseball is going to be. You can go from being on the lip of of getting. Everybody fired too. You know making it in to the wildcard by by the skin of your teeth winning.

"Tied the game and so be it. Mets wound up losing to the giants. First pitch crawford hammers toward right-field conforto on the run can't get it in one off the wall it kicks away from around third bryant scores around third big wave told his dickerson relay throw to the plate on the way not in time dickerson slides across safely. It's a two run double from brandon proper as at this point. Play this music whenever we were just talking about the mets at least the titanic is setting sale later on this afternoon. We're watching it. They lost three two. So that was after taiwan walker was removed from the game. Couple of guys on the not his fault in the seventh-inning he had gone six plus only allowing one head Louise rojo said yeah. We took him out but we do. Take everything into the to count. We make the decision. We are where the way. he's throwing. The ball of the fastball overpowering. He's seventy four pitches. Is the third time through the lineup brandon crawford best so third time seeing walker through like whatever i seventy four pitches crazy. He was asked what he thought. When crawford then lines the double off of aaron loop on the first pitch kennedy work now the we just gotta get out of that indian minimize the damage loopy. Did it shut your mouth. Here was walker that he was really unhappy coming out the game. Did he talk to ross about it. Just doesn't have a conversation about competitor competing right there in the moment and obviously i wanna stay in the game but it's not my call make You know i show emotions and this is what it is so much. When he was taken out you can hear. He was either ron or keith. I'm not sure on us. And we're like whoa. Because he clearly snapped at row houses. He was coming to get him. So the storyline for the mets. They've dropped twelve They are now four games under five hundred sixty one in sixty five sinking like a stone series valley tonight. Carlos correa alex wood to in ten out of this thirteen game Little pool of games that we've discussed with one more to go. Yankees means won. Eleven straight there in oakland and i had to take on the as jamison title in the start the first pitch at nine forty five. They trailed tampa by four and a half in the al. Because the rays got zack wheeler late francisco. Me he a three-run homer in the ninth raise beat the phillies seven to four. Dodgers stopped the padres and sixteen five three. Aj pollock him run. When did that game war ish you in your work when it was going in. That game went sixteen innings. And you had fernando. Totti's junior had a home run to tie the game in the fifteenth after the dodgers took the lead and then It was pollock in the sixteen th inning and obviously you. Don't get a lot of that with this new runner on second situation. I believe this is the longest game. There's been since that new rule by the way speaking of new rules. I was not aware of this. I this. I saw this. Because i was searching for the details of the rachel nichols. Espn deal where. She was removed from the job. It looks like our time. there's done yes As i was searching for details of that i came across. I did not realize the nba. Summer league the same way that major league baseball toys with ideas and minor league baseball. They've been doing sudden death. So you play a regular five minute overtime. If the game was tied second overtime. I point wins. Karbala shot fast. Yes wow i had no idea. They can't bring that to the nba. Tonight i gotta shoot hockey. If you don't move you trying to cut down on the game times if you play a full overtime. I maybe they will. And what do they call that ending. Where it's they at some point they say okay. It's going to be whoever gets to eighty nine points. Frats in the big three. Yes there's a name for that. I don't know what it is. I don't know. I don't know either but that's sudden death does not know about. I agree that i'm not surprised. By the racial nicholson's. I'm disappointed by pilot though. I'm with adam silver on this one. You know somebody can make one comment and losing a job over the whole thing. I mean it looks like they botched that thing from the get go. They knew about it for a long time. Espn never addressed lead. Mexico woman's got one foot outdoor. Now i thought he was getting move though getting moved radio and stephen smith and want to work with them anymore. Yeah so he got fired. Michael irvin no. You're right yeah. I think michael irvin's rotating group of people. I guess or he is going to be the full-time guy. So just call the stephen a smith show why not wants to host a late night talk show. Apparently that's his ultimate goal hill. End up leaving. Espn a less. Of course he doesn't on abc. Continue to do what he's doing the alto me that yesterday. When did he did this. this week. yeah he's all about it late night talk show interviews and everything else. What all about him. Oh yeah. Let's let's kick max kellerman to the curb the like well. I mean maximum shirts. Making plenty of doreen financial. But it's still. It's reported that he kicked max kellerman so the car. That's exactly what be like me going into spike and cigarette of geo. Never what. It seem. Like stephen a smith and max kellerman tight. Obviously they're not yeah. Apparently we're tight tight. Tight tight is a snare drum bari. Toy point roberts sala addressing the problems. The jets have had over the last couple of weeks. They've lost several players to injury. Vinny curry yesterday. We found out will not play because he had his spleen removed because of a rare blood disorder. A solid says. Kansas magically signed impact players. At this point. It's always easy right conroy. To play a fictional game of let's go get somebody but the reality is there's there's very far and few in between in terms of what's available so they are what they are. They'll be scouring the waiver wire when team start getting down to fifty three players there'll be players available and they may be somebody along the line that he has coached somewhere and maybe a couple of those players come available and he'll bring those guys. Are those cuts. After this weekend. I want to be rain. Yeah very quickly. Yeah giants and patriots. Who begin their Joint practice again. Ten o'clock later this morning by all accounts. It seems like the ankle. Injury jackson suffered yesterday was not serious. But nothing official there. The broncos named teddy bridgewater their starter for week one against the giants and trevor lawrence will be the starter for the jaguars week one the morning show with boomer esiason and greg boomer and geo i can't wait for it. "But he didn't just leave them behind the rent Our encounter to other uh PFC Rangers, Uh, PFC Walls and Pollock. And indicated to him that the commander was back up the hill and, uh, you know he needed help. And so those two charged back up they were armed, still has some bullets, And so they literally charge back up the hill knowing what they're facing. And came upon the lieutenant. There they they killed three Chinese soldiers in the area, and then one of them picked him up. And while the other provided covering fire as they tried to move him down the hill and they can only carry them for it was bad tooth. That's probably 3 400 M. They had to get back down that hill because it's a slope. It's not, you know, 205 indicates it's 205 m high, But you're you know, you're you're going on the angle that hypothesis juice, you know, partners. So the right triangle there, so you're covering a lot more. Yes, it's in the 205. M and so and you're also being shot at and you're almost out of ammunition. And there's no support and and and apparently and one. So you know when they did come up to get him. That was the second time that he told he said, You know, save yourselves. Leave me behind, but they refused. They picked him up. They took him down. They got to a small ravines. And they took inventory there, and they literally were out of the no longer had any ammunition left. And they have one grenade, and they apparently both are all three of them. It kind of made a pact that we're not gonna be captured. This grenade will come in handy. You take care of us. Uh, so at that stage, the lieutenant pocket for a third time told his men to leave them behind. And they refused to do that. So he said, OK, fine. Put me on my back and just drag me down the hill by my arms and and that's what they did. They drug him down and you know he was suffering such pain. The joke was that you know, he kept muttering to himself. I'm a Ranger. I'm a ranger trying to keep from yelling out the pain. And finally, even in the end, you know he still was doing his job. As a commander to ensure that the enemy paid a heavy price for what they had just done to him and his rangers. So let me let me also give some background color to this, Uh, Ralph pockets served for 22 years, well beyond Korea. He actually has sought combat in Vietnam. When he retired in 1971. He had two distinguished service crosses. So he literally established and create. He created establish the Ranger standard, and he had the opportunity to be assigned, uh, when he came back to the states and is recovering from his wounds Do the infantile. You know the infant if its infancy I should say of the U. S. Army Ranger school. The course was just being started then, And he was one of the initial cadre. And so the standards that the school espouses today are primarily those very same standards that Colonel Pocket had created back with the Eighth Army Ranger company to train them. So So the Rangers standards start there. Well, it really It really shows you the impact one man. And with dedication and passion can give to his community. And we're talking about Colonel Ralph Pocket recipient of the Medal of Honor. What I want to do now, John, we're talking to Lieutenant Colonel John, like Richard. I want to turn to the Medal of Honor ceremony that you had the opportunity to attend for colonel pocket because I don't think many folks ever kind of get to have that experience. And and maybe What leads up to it a little bit. And and sort of. I can't even imagine what that day is like that you're not, you know, bursting out with pride for your for your friend and colleague here, So tell us a little bit about That whole White House ceremony that maybe the general public doesn't see. I mean, they're obviously quite obviously, there's a lot of, uh, background motion. In terms of coordination who's in it makes it even more difficult when it's under the time of Covid. Quite Obviously, you know, it's the 1st 1st Medal of Honor ceremony for President Biden to do as president and we're under you know some aspects of covid restrictions, and what that did is that restricted some of the numbers that we could bring in there, But we went without the masks, but Were tested prior to I went a year and a half without I had covid way back in February before last. I've had my shots. I went all this time without having my nose done. And then I got to get to swap for this, Uh, but it was well worth it. But there's a tremendous amount as you can appreciate. You know, the White House and it's actually led by the service. Whichever service the recipient is in this case is Department of Army and so the D. A lead, vast majority, the coordination efforts. They they're really the escorts, right? Nothing until they get to the White House. And then in the White House, the White House you know, they take over, But the department defense primarily takes the lead on all this type of stuff. And the D a department of Army G one that biology tenant General Gary Brito, Uh, they were. They were stellar. They were just exceptionally supportive of everything that we needed everything that I needed to get done, Uh, in terms of Laying things out getting orders. His uniforms squared away. Uh, And I mean, literally his uniforms fans three wars. He he was a cadet at the end of Second World War. So he is World War two. He has a victory meant all in there. He's Korea and he's Vietnam. So he spending, you know it's fan Three wars and so you know, we're able to put all that together. Uh and this man was so humble. You would not even wear the special forces tab because it was It came into existence after he retired. And when I, uh when I asked him about that, it's okay. We're gonna get this fixed. So we immediately got the orders cut for him, so I'll see. Now he's wearing the green. You know, you sit here and you think you know in the army you want to where you want to see, I be combat images bad you want to Ranger tab anyone special forces to have. I mean, if you can have those things and hear this man He did not wear his combat infantry badge after Korea for a while, because I didn't have orders for it. He didn't wear the special forces tab because he didn't have orders work. Uh, it's just amazing how humble and and sincere this guy is. But the Yeah, the ceremony itself is exceptionally unique. Obviously the recipient And, uh, And in this case here, his his wife are taken care of, and and managed by department defense. They handled everything, though In this instance there also was a friend associate who provided them private transportation coming up to D C, which was very nice didn't have to fly commercial air for that..

"Put up impressive numbers on offense in Game two against the Hawks, winning 1 25 to 91 leading the game by as many as 41 points. Led by Drew holidays. Effort. Entree Young bucks one, this one with defense defensively. I think we did a very good job of playing for each other, which again with the team with so many so many shooters and scores, that's gonna be huge. Young only had 15 points and he tied his career high with nine turnovers, eight of them in the first half. That series is now tied at one. It will be the Lightning and the Canadians and the Stanley Cup final. Tampa Bay wins Game seven against the Islanders won nothing on a short handed second period goal from Yanni, Gord. "And maybe i'll just leave that with listeners. That's beautiful that yeah. That is true and so perfect. Thank you so much for joining us this week. Yeah thanks for having me. What a great conversation with jen At one point while she was talking it made me think of a story that i heard a sermon. Recently about a man named ira gates. He was a rancher in west texas back and like the nineteen twenties and he and his wife were facing bankruptcy. They couldn't pay their taxes. Pay their mortgage and he just had this inkling to test his land for oil and it turns out that that was a great idea because there was a large reservoir of oil that lay beneath their property and they had twenty one square or sorry forty one square miles of land had beneath the soil was just tons and tons of oil. I looked up the numbers at the peak of production on his land. He was producing one hundred. Twelve thousand barrels of oil per day. Which in today's dollars would be worth one point seven million dollars a day in oil for someone who was on the verge of bankruptcy and couldn't pay their taxes and yet the whole time beneath the surface were immeasurable riches. So i have either probably tell where i'm going with this but we may not have literal gold or oil beneath the surface But i think that's just such an incredible picture of the things that we do have access to in the lord even when we feel completely spiritually bankrupt. He has placed inside of us. We have access to the things of heaven if we ask and like jan was saying sometimes it's perspective shift. Sometimes it's not gonna look how it did in the past or how we want it to now but that doesn't negate the fact that we have access to the things of heaven and that doesn't mean we're going to get the immediate answer we want but it means that god is always with us and irene. God is more valuable than one point. Seven million dollars a day of oil even though we may not feel that every day you may be thinking by one point seven million dollars a day. It would solve a lot of my problems but in the scope of eternity like we're gonna get so much more than that with turn in eternity with our heavenly father who will give everything we ask for it. Who has abundance waiting for us on the other side like i just been challenged especially twenty two thousand eight hundred twenty one to continually keep my focus on the belief that this world is not all there is and that my hope is not in the things of this.

"We have to put off distraction And i think that's just a huge challenge in the age that we live in. I mean goodness. I have my smartphone right here reside me and it will buzz at me endlessly all throughout the day and heat me endlessly sort of attuned to things. That actually don't even really matter sometimes. So how do you cultivate the habit of listening to god. I think number one. You have to manage your distractions. You have to get real about your distractions and not only what they are but why you really actually wanted to be distracted. Because i think he getting alone with god sometimes like is the feels like a very vulnerable. Place like I prefer to be distracted. I prefer to sort of Not have to think about. Maybe the quiet anxieties of my own heart or shame or guilt bore fear or doubt. And do i really wanna get into god's presence because i don't even know if he's good i think about the just just this last probably four weeks. I've just felt battered by bad news. And not by my own personal bad news but just friends who are experiencing really hard things. Cancer death i mean marital crisis Addiction in their families and it is just felt like one piece of bad news after another in sometimes to get into a quiet place with god means i have to really face that looming question of like i don't even know i don't know a if my prayers are reaching beyond the ceiling. Be if they are. Are you even listening and attending to them and so there are so many reasons that we keep Kind of ourselves busy distracted And i think goes back to cultivating the habit of listening to god is really about cultivating the trust that when you get there you're gonna hear it's going to be life for you. It's going to be life that You know i've been recently reading. John john is the second part of a habit called faith..

"May need friends who can help you see the provision of the wilderness. I do think community is really really huge in the wilderness. You know there were always. There was always kinda like that. The rabble think is the way that it's talked about in the wilderness in the intruder on me and other parts of the of the pentateuch like iravel in the wilderness of people who are always like complaining. That's facebook today. that's exactly okay. So don't spend your time with the rabble in the wilderness. Get some joshu get some calebs. And joshua was you know the faithful to the twelve who when they were in the wilderness and actually scouted out the promised land. Of course this is at the beginning before they had the forty years of wandering. You know they could. They have trust and faith in god was going to provide. This really key is who do you surround yourself with in the wilderness. If you if you link arms with a lot of other people who can only see the scarcity. You can't expect your faith to grow. Yeah that's powerful. That's really good It is there a time or something in your life. that was really hard but worth the struggle You know you hate to say it. But sometimes they're earlier's motherhood can feel a little bit like a wilderness. I remember for me specifically. We have five kids. We had three kids in three years. He and i was like whoa. Okay take a breather. After you know felt a little bit like Yeah we like the hurricane had come through and you know everything. Life was just a little bit scattered so when my youngest was three and my oldest would had just finished her first year of kindergarten. I started to think about a transition. You know from the kind of hairy eight years of motherhood into you know maybe a career shift. As i mentioned. I have been a teacher. I was doing a lot of ministry at that time. A lot of Even just some writing bible cities for neighborhood groups and that kind of staff. And so i started to think about a ministry degree it was going to go back to graduate school net with a professor sort of had a plan in place for beating some of the prerequisites for the program so that by the time my youngest was in kindergarten in a couple of years. Like i'd be ready to start Into the program and then of course you know what happened like. We gave away the crib in the car seat and then found out we were pregnant and then we found out that i was pregnant with twins was it was just a really hard piece of news. I have to be really honest. And say i didn't know what god was doing at the time. It felt like lip get just felt like i was on a monopoly board and i just got the like go to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect two hundred dollars. And it of course wasn't that i didn't treasured children. I mean i did. It was just that this was not the plan. Non has i had sort of imagined the next five ten years going. And i mean of course like now. Thirteen years later in my twins are thirteen. My oldest is twenty. I can see like how god has meant that for such good..

"I'm your host just biondo and this week. I'm so excited to introduce you to jen. Pollock michelle. she is an author of a new book. Called a habit called faith. Forty days in the bible to find and followed jesus and she might have to correct me. If i'm wrong but i believe this is her fourth book and we're just so excited to have her on the shelves. So welcome. jen thank you just. You're right fourth book so go you did you. Research took yes. And i guess we'll start off their to On as i was doing some research on your website. I saw that you say that you think the bible restores us So i wanna get into you know who you are in a little bit of your background as well but what did you mean by that. Yeah i think. I think so afternoon. We think of the bible mistakenly as just a source of information. You know. i'm going to go. And i'm going to get the right facts about god about jesus and his plan of salvation and onion and there are many wonderful things to know in that way but i think the best way to look at the bible is to think of it as a story you know to really think of it as one story. And it's really the story of humanity. Turning away from god you know trying the road of self reliance and autonomy and and not going so well you know that actually going really terribly that going very ruinously for humanity and the new see that god just never gives up on on us that he's constantly making overtures of friendship and do his estranged people and we see that in the gospels. Those overtures come really to climax in the person of jesus. And i think to think of the bible is a story is israeli inviting because it allows us to sort of take our place in the landscape. A little bit of the bible is information. It could be easy to sort of think about it as a math textbook. And you know math textbook is important but it's really not what you want. Keep it your bedside in. It's not what you really want to wake up and read. Unless you're preparing for a test. And i think a lot of times. We think of the bible in that way but to really think about it is a story to think about it as a story in which we actually have our own kind of role and we end We sort of take our place. In the action i think is much more inviting and Probably much more exciting to. Yeah i agree. So that's a good intro then into who you are what would you say your place is in the story and a little bit about your background and how you how god led you to writing this book. It's so fun actually to talk about our stories. Because i think one of the things that's easy note as we hear each other's stories is that they're really not linear you know that we don't really plot our stories like i'll travel from a to b to c to d you know and it will all make sense. I mean that certainly has not been true for me. I was In terms of my faith life. I was raised in a christian family and was one of those people teenagers specifically that was like. Yeah all of this is true and none of this is really very fun so all kind of do my own thing and come back to jesus. I'm like you know in my thirties and have kids. And i'm driving. A mini mini. Van in life will be so boring already. So i might as well be a christian at that point..

jesus fourth book this week thirties jen jen. Pollock michelle one story Forty days bible one biondo christian one of those people israeli
