A highlight from A Disciple's Call To Evangelism
"Anyway, so it's good to be here And once again as always to be in the house of the lord together special time That we get to honor the lord with the way that we listen to his word sung Sing about and listen to his word preached. We'll be in matthew chapter four tonight as we continue our study Through this great gospel. It's been a good journey So far, we're getting ready to just talking to russell before the service get into the sermon of the mount And I am looking forward to that. I can't promise you how long that that will take But uh, we'll get through it one verse at a time as always and try to give a good Exegesis of each passage we come for it too. So matthew chapter four And we will begin reading tonight in verse 18 matthew four In verse 18 God's word says in jesus walking by the sea of galilee Saw two brethren simon called peter and andrew his brother casting a net into the sea For they were fishers And he saith unto them Follow me and I will make you fishers. Amen And they straightway left their nets and followed him And going on from thence He saw two other brethren james the son of zebedee and john his brother in a ship with zebedee Their father mending their nets and he called them And they immediately left the ship and their father and followed him I think it's a familiar passage the title of the message tonight is a disciples call to evangelism a disciples call To evangelism it's it's interesting to note If you comb through the new testament alone, there's a over 50 times That different forms of the word evangelized Is used as you study through each Book 50 times in total time and time again here in the gospel gospels christ calls On his people to evangelize and he caps it off with the great commission well -known couple Verses here matthew 28 19 and 20 go ye therefore and teach all nations Baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and the holy ghost Teach them to observe all things whatsoever. I've commanded you And lo i'm with you always even to the end of the earth That is a couple verses of evangelism. It's a call for all of us to go everywhere and to evangelize The world evangelism is what people god's people Do we win others to christ? We rescue others from the flames of hell we lead others From the grip of satan into the hands of god. We carry with us the seemingly uncurable disease called sin If this is the case Why? Do we not witness more? Why? Is the church not full? of those Who we have led to christ? one of the night's message We will see What evangelism? Looks like we will look at this passage and we will uncover the truths of evangelism One by one in my prayer is that it would stir up within each and every one of us a desire To do more a desire to evangelize More a disciples call To evangelism. So the first thing I want to consider In our text tonight Is the call? The call and before we get to this specific call that we see here in this passage I want to show Show you how that this call Fits into a bigger progressive call Of the disciples as we look at what we call a synoptic view of the four gospels We see that there are several different calls on the disciples in their lives Because that is how god presented it to us. It's sort of like us we receive different calls from the lord Progressive calls we were called to salvation We were called to come here to liberty we were called to evangelize some of us are called to preach Some are called to teach some are called to serve It's just a progressive call for the totality of our lives and the disciples were no Different as we grow in faith. God calls us to different levels of service according to his sovereign will So in the four gospels we see five distinct calls from christ to the disciples and this is not listed in the outline I gave you this is a free of charge Okay, so the first call we see as we look at all four of the gospels is first of all a call to salvation We see this call of the disciples in john chapter one beginning verse 35 through 51 This call came this particular passage around february the year 27 A .d and in this passage andrew peter philip and nathaniel they follow christ Submitting to him as messiah the son of god and the king of israel The disciples would occasionally accompany christ on trips after this call But they did not completely abandon their application. This was a call Their occupation this was a call to salvation the second call we see Is the call that we have here tonight the call to evangelism We see this in matthew chapter 4 the passage. We just read verses 18 through 21 and we also see this same passage in mark chapter 1 verses 16 Through 20 this call happened right at a year later from the disciples call to e salvation So tonight we will see this call played out before our eyes peter andrew james and john they will be called to more than just Fishermen as they were they will be called to be fishers of men but still yet this call Leads to a partial commitment the disciples do not made farewell to their occupation Of fishermen that's the second call we call the salvation The call to evangelism and then the third call is the call to total commitment total commitment We see this call in luke chapter 5 beginning in verse 1 through verse 11 now this call is similar to the previous call To be fishers of men, but it's different in several ways First of all in the previous call matthew and mark that they emphasize the effort But luke in luke chapter 5 emphasizes the success in the previous call a call to evangelism Jesus mentioned simon andrew james and john by name but in this call in luke chapter 5 jesus directs his words Towards peter in the previous call jesus is walking on the shore when he calls out to his disciples in this column luke chapter 5 Jesus is standing in the previous call simon and andrew They are fishing and james and john as we will see in this passage tonight They are mending their nets but in the call in luke They are all washing their nets or washing Their nets in the previous call peter and andrew leave their nets and follow jesus With james and john leaving their boats and their father and their hired servants But in this call all Leave all in a total Commitment to christ in luke chapter 5.

i then asked him to go and look for it and he went into the back into the back and lo and behold now keep in mind the book came out september 19th this is september 29 10 days ago he went in in the back the and lo and behold he just happened to open a box and just happened to say that it just happened to arrive today now we know that's a lie this book ships weeks release date and it's supposed to be up put on the shelves the books didn't just show up they stuck him in the back he later came out with about seven books in his hand and he asked and i asked him where he was going to place the number one book in the united states fiction and non -fiction he kind of gave me a stare i said said i'm perplexed since the elon musk book is prominently displayed throughout the store he told me that it was quote a company initiative unquote to put the musk boot out there to which i responded that is it possible that the levim book and title also is a company initiative not to display i also share that i quite was disappointed that barnes and noble which should be all about free exchange of ideas not prominently display the number one book in the united states and perhaps they table he said nothing now now i have the chart in front of me these sales from all these retailers and of course amazon i see them daily the day after the sales day the first week pre -orders included we sold over a hundred and twenty nine thousand hard copies copies of the book less than eight thousand at barnes and noble less than eight thousand in what is the biggest retail bookstore not talking about warehouse stores bookstore in the united states so this explains a lot when i went to the book signing a barnes and noble at tyson's corner the first sunday after it was released it i turned to my wife and i said look at all these people how come the book isn't even in the front window and there was a sort of a desk towards the back which had all all the favorite books there and so forth displayed on on the it's hard to explain but in your mind's eye you can kind of figure out what i'm saying there was spoke there where was uh... but yet my books not there and i'm signing my book there and you ought to hear all the excuses people give me all that well through no they didn't no they didn't well each store manager makes the decision themselves apparently not always when they're getting directives about which books to promote ladies and gentlemen how the hell could the number one book in the united states of america fiction or non -fiction or combined cover and ebook not be found anywhere in the barnes and noble store the guy in goes the back he brings out seventy so we just got the box today how is that possible pop i think the book business and the numbers nationwide they don't lie that doesn't mean every barnes and noble is doing it but it means it's a significant number are the title of the book how dare you write this book the democrat party hates america so let me just say this i'm not to telling boycott you anything i'm telling you about me i am never walking into a never pen period ever and they can stick every one of books my up there you know what the amount of money that we have made for that company for us i don't give a damn what publishers think i don't give a damn what i don't care censorship yeah right i don't want to hear the lies oh it just arrived today liar oh these are local decisions well we just heard the musket book decision was a national decision liar and here's the great thing there's a lot of retail out there lot of stores amazon and who are breaking their asses to make sure this book is on the shelves i do understand i do understand that there are many who don't want you to read it i got it trust me and i do the biggest number one book in even so -called allies oh we're gonna interview this one we're gonna interview this one but not this the title's too hot the book's too hot the book's hot how about what's being done to this country that's too hot in my view i'm not telling you to do anything that's not what i do in regards to this sort of thing i'm telling you what i'm doing now once a week i go to costco why i like their hot dogs that's why my wife likes their power bars or whatever it is i go in there so i went in there today to get my hot dog there they are displayed nobody's riding nobody's A highlight from Episode 377 - Artificial Intelligence and Operational Resiliency
"This is Jane Lo, and I'm at the Global Resiliency Federation office here in Singapore. And with me today, I'm very pleased and very privileged to have Mark Orsi, who is the CEO of GRF or Global Resiliency Federation, all the way from United States of America. So thank you, Mark, for your time today. Thank you for having me. And so Mark will be sharing with us the latest in terms of artificial intelligence, which is causing a lot of excitement nowadays, as well as the operational resiliency framework, which has been developed by GRF over the last year or so. So Mark, you know, give us a brief introduction about yourself and also GRF and what, you know, the organisation does. And I also understand that you're very passionate about AI. So tell us about the history of your career as well. Sure. So I started as an aerospace engineer many, many years ago. And after aerospace, I was in computer science and I was working on computer vision. So it's really been interesting to see the journey until today. But additionally, so the last 15 years or so, I've been in the financial services sector primarily and technology risk and cybersecurity. I worked at Goldman Sachs for about eight years, KPMG for a few years, JP Morgan for a few years. And then in the past four years, I've been at Global Resilience Federation and we're a non -profit. We manage and support 17 different sharing communities. ISACs, which are really information sharing and analysis centres, they're collective defence communities where organisations join together to help protect themselves against the various threats that are out there. And of course, you have your conference later in October, later this year in Texas. Yeah, Austin, Texas, October 11th through 12th. Anybody who's local or who wants to make the journey, please come. We also have an OTI set conference on September 6th coming right up. More local. But yeah, it's an iteration of it, sixth year running. And it's security and third -party risk. So we have practitioners, CISOs, third -party risk practitioners, business resilience practitioners. And we have a whole track on AI security. So we've worked for the last six months with 20 organisations on two papers. One is a CISO guide to AI security and one is a practitioner's guide. So let's start with AI, which is what gets people excited nowadays. So tell us, you've got a great vintage point from America, which is a leader in many ways when it comes to technology and innovations. So what is the conversation like in terms of the business use cases that you see in America? Sure, we're coming from a cybersecurity and resilience perspective. And so I was on a call, it was about a week and a half after ChatGBT was released in November of last year. A hundred different chief information security officers on the call, really all concerned about maybe business forging ahead without really taking any security considerations into play. But also about some of the major strengths that they could, how can we use this for good as well, right? How can we use it to find vulnerabilities? How can we use it to secure our code? So an example is one of the organisations had been using a tool like it to actually rewrite their code base and translate into different language, which added memory management to their code and then translate it back to the original language. And they were also using it then to multiply their developers time by tenfold, because they didn't have to write the test cases and additional code around developers. So there's plenty of benefits to it and there's plenty of risks, right? We need to think about the whole pipeline, whether we have in -house AI models or whether we're using third parties, there's different kinds of risks that we need to consider. There's also been a lot of talk of using AI large language models to do predictive diagnostics in healthcare, right? And GRF, of course, you have more than, what, 20 member organisations? It's 17 different ones, yes, 17. And one of them is Health iSAT, right? So talking to your member communities, do you see a difference in terms of the pace of adoption in terms of using AI? Yeah, absolutely. And so we worked with 20 different organisations, including some healthcare, some manufacturing, some energy and others, to put together a guide on AI security, both the practitioner guide and a CISO guide. And yes, there's different pace of adoption. There's organisations that have been using machine learning and AI for many, many years. And but with the advent of this generative AI, there's just a tremendous amount of concern and the pace of change is much more rapid. It used to be every year you'd have change and now it's every week. There's new things happening. So of course, artificial intelligence is not new in cyber security. How is this latest innovation of using large language models, how is that going to be different in terms of adoption in cyber security? I think you mentioned a few sort of like... I think some of the power of it is that ultimately, if you think about the resource limits that we have, there's always constraints on the number of resources that are available that are cyber focused and cyber educated. And so for us to take the power of some of those large language model generative AI and sort of multiply the efforts of the staff that we have, then we can also meet some of the needs that we have from a resource perspective. Also, I think ultimately we're going to get into very targeted threat intelligence to where it'll be based upon our own assets. So if you're an enterprise and you have specific assets and you have specific threats in your sector, then the intelligence that you're delivered would be very targeted to your organization specifically. So it's going to get much more powerful over time to give you tailored threat intelligence. Do you think that the rate of adoption on the cyber defense side is possibly faster than how the threat actors are adopting... Yeah, I mean, that's a big concern, right? I think probably we'll be behind the curve. All right, okay. I think there was even talk early on about just pausing the pace of developments, making sure that we have the regulatory framework so that we know how to do this ethically and responsibly. So I think from a machine learning perspective, we could be doing very well, but I think from a generative AI perspective, we may be behind the curve a little bit. So I think the complexity of attacks, I think we'll be putting essentially nation -state tools into every threat actor's hands. So I think it's a very sort of concerning few years as we work to try and match the pace of change. You think that is something that is quite realistic that will happen, or is it just kind of like a hype? Because there's some part that human developers or human threat actors are possibly a lot more sophisticated when it comes to developing the malware code. And you can kind of tell the difference between one that's generated by generative AI and one that's written by human developers. I'll give you an example of just a very personal use case. So I was working with my son just a couple of weeks ago, and we found an old Nintendo DS. And so he wanted to run videos on his old Nintendo DS. And so we used ChatGBT to learn how to hack into our Nintendo DS to make it display videos. So he never had any programming experience, but we were able to do this. So this is exactly what I'm like, you know, we can put these tools into everybody's hands. So how do we, you know, we need to be extra vigilant as this change happens. So what do you think is the immediate step that cyber defenders have to take in face of this threat? Well, I think there's a few things. Number one, we need to be moving forward to be using it in the right ways, to be using it from a defender perspective. So if it is helping us to find vulnerabilities quicker, if it's helping us to develop threat intelligence better, that's more tailored towards each individual organization. But also just from security and ethics perspective, there's all sorts of different attacks that can happen to those, whether it's on the input data, whether it's in the model itself, you can embed undetectable backdoors in these models. So if you're using a third party to develop your models, you need to be very concerned and maybe even have multiple models to compare the answers. Now, some people also say, right, let's just get the basics right, right? So for example, we'll get more sophisticated phishing emails, right? So that just means more awareness in terms of how to spot a fake email from a genuine email. So that's kind of like the basics that we need to sort out. Yeah, but it's also addressing all the different aspects of that. You know, I mentioned the models themselves. So protecting the models, protecting the data. You don't want data poisoning. You want to detect and monitor these things because they may evolve over time. And you need to be really concerned about your third parties because every third party is going to be introducing AI. So we talk about an AI bill of materials. So the same as you have a software bill of materials, we want to think about how can we develop an AI bill of materials? So how can you ensure that the training data and the model that's being used, right, how do we know which models we're using and which training data is being used? So if we find an ethical bias or we find some, let's say it was trained on a set of a code that had malware embedded in it or a set of code that had logic bombs in it, you don't want to embed logic bombs in your new code that you're writing by using these tools. So we need to make sure that the training data is clean. For example, let's just take the example of data poisoning, right? So that is perhaps, you know, looking at how you provide access levels to your data set. So it's not any difference from sort of the basic cybersecurity measures, right? Right. It's using some of the same constructs that you have across others. But one of the things that you need to be concerned about too, though, is these are dynamic, some of these are dynamic models. Right now, it's a very static world. We have these models that were trained in, you know, 2021 data, right? But in the near future, these things will be much more dynamic and actually responding to the inputs to change their behavior. So you'll need to be monitoring. Yeah, that's very different. Right, okay. So I think one final question on the copy of AI before we move to operational resilience framework. A lot of people say, right, AI is going to mean, you know, perhaps job losses, right? And how do you see that playing out in the cybersecurity field? So I'm, you know, concerned in general. I studied AI 30 years ago. I was concerned about it then. You know, I thought the first sort of impact would be with self -driving cars and in our transportation industry. I think it turns out that, you know, these models advanced very quickly, maybe quicker than people were expecting. But it's going to take a very long time for us to sort of digest that through all of our business models that we have right now. But I think it's going to multiply our efforts. I think cybersecurity is an industry where we're very resource constrained, where people, there's way more cyber resources are required than we have people. So it'll just multiply our capabilities and maybe meet the needs that we have. So I think that's a very positive thing. Ultimately, I think our economy will be changing in the next decade or two decades in different ways. And I think we can only imagine what those changes will be. Right. Okay. So talking about overcoming some of these challenges, it means like resiliency, right? So that plays into the next topic, operational resilience framework. So tell us what this resiliency means in the context of this framework and perhaps cybersecurity. So back in 2018, there was a paper from the Bank of England. So regulatory guidance on operational resilience and impact tolerance. And so it was really thinking about the potential systemic impacts of bank failures on customers and partners. And so the question was, well, how do we respond to that? What are the things that we need to do to ensure that we can continue to operate our critical services through a crisis, even if it's an impaired state? So we, Trey Moss, who is the CEO of Sheltered Harbor, it was an initiative from FSISAC to help protect consumer data. So if there was a bank failure or a bank disruption, you could still access your bank account information. So it would prevent sort of a run on the bank or this systemic impact from it. So we took that concept and Trey was always thinking, hey, we probably need to do more than just protect this little piece of data. It was in a distributed and immutable way that the different banks and the standard format that different banks could access. We need to also prevent the bank from failing its critical services. So we were working with him, Bill Nelson, who is the CEO of FSISAC for 12 years. And he's our board of directors. Trey and I, we met for about a year to say, well, what should we be doing beyond just protecting this little piece of information? What are those critical services that we need to protect? And we need to make sure that through a crisis they would operate, even if it's an impaired state. So we developed a path to operational resilience. We worked with 100 organizations and financial services regulators to develop a very simple path that was meant really for every industry, not just for financial services. And so it's a path of seven steps, 37 rules. We tried to make it very simple. It's aligned to NIST and ISO standards and extends existing business continuity and disaster recovery type standards and frameworks. It takes a holistic approach and really looking outward instead of inward on saying these are internal business services that we need to keep running. Those we call business critical services. Operations critical are those things that your customers and your partners depend upon. And so making sure that those continue to run through a crisis. If you have a wiperware attack, you have a ransomware attack, you have a data center fire, you want to make sure that your customers' critical services continue to function through that crisis. So take an example of, say, a ransomware attack. So attack ransomware hitting one of these industrial organizations, right? So how would this resiliency framework help, you know, plug some of the gaps? So what's interesting is we've done this very much from an IT focus. We want to extend it to an OT realm as well. So we'll be working with OT ISAC and manufacturing ISAC late this year, early next year, and we'll set up a working group to do that. But actually one of our first scenarios that we put out there, it's, you know, freely downloadable from our website, grf .org, is a scenario that we call it ACME pipeline. And it was essentially a replication of colonial pipeline incident to highlight the benefits of an operational resilient framework approach. And so we looked at, you know, what are those critical services from a pipeline? And it was really just delivering petroleum. So there are a bunch of regulatory responses they have to have. There's payroll, there's all these different systems. When it comes to what do you actually deliver to your customers and your business partners, it was just delivery of petroleum. So making sure that they could deliver petroleum through that crisis, if they had a ransomware attack or a wipe away attack, what are those things they needed to do to ensure, even if it's an impaired state, how do I deliver that to my high priority customers and my low priority customers and designing so that let's say I could only operate at 80 % capacity. Can I still provide service to my low priority customers or do I need to only provide service to my high priority customers? So understanding at what point do you cut off service or do you are you going to disappoint some people because it's no longer a service to them. Designing that into your system and pre -planning that is part of this framework. Right, yes, yeah. So it's kind of like looking at from a sort of a consequence perspective on the mission factors rather perspective than start from the asset inventory kind of that traditional. It was interesting, I was hearing some of the same language that we were developing over the last two years coming from the OT experts on the panels as well about exactly that, about operating through a crisis, about the mission critical functions. Right, okay. So we just talked about one scenario which is ransomware and you are looking to sort of, I guess, expand to different types of scenarios to try to help organizations assess where they are in terms of their maturity when it comes to resiliency, yes? Yeah, so it really doesn't matter what the type of attack is, right? And also I think one of the concerns, we've been very sort of IT focused and very much we talked about the data and making sure that it's distributed and immutable, but also from a service perspective. So you want to make sure that you can deliver those services. That's right. Whether it includes manpower or whether it includes just technology. So that's very important. So what are the next steps then? So you say that the efforts started in 2019, yes? There's two active working groups right now. So one is we're developing a maturity model. We're going to release the next iteration in October of this year at our conference, which is in Austin, Texas. So not local. But so the next iteration will come with a maturity model, some of the comments that we've received from multiple industries, and we're still actively seeking, we want to make sure it's a cross -industry approach. We also have another working group focused on a scenario that's in the financial sector. So in ACH payments network disruption, ACH is, you know, domestic cash payments are made through this ACH network, and it's $76 trillion a year. So it's a very significant system. And so what would a disruption like that, how would it impact banks? And how should we be thinking about operational resilience in that scenario? So working through that, we'll probably do an exercise in November of this year, which would be open to many banks to have that discussion. So we'll be looking at the next steps. Like I mentioned, we'll be looking to extend the framework to OT, ICS concerns. And we'll be looking to, you know, develop the third iteration and additional scenarios. So what is the first thing that organizations have to do if they want to adopt your framework? So they can go to our website now and freely download it. It's available. They can actually review it and give feedback. But also think about how they can use it in their organizations, right? What some in major banks, they're using it just to develop training materials. So organizations, they're different business units across the globe regionally, and different business units can consider operational resilience and how they work. So I think it's a really good learning tool. And ultimately, as they implement it, the first steps are, number one, we build it upon the baseline of NIST and ISO standards. IDLE, change management, making sure they have core standards, core practices in place, core controls, and then naming an operational resilience executive. So really getting somebody who has visibility across business and technology. Yeah, a champion of it, who can sustain it through organizational change, right? Who can really have some power and authority to implement it. That's really important. And then you can start walking through the framework and doing the things that are necessary. It'll take investment, it'll take some work to really become more resilient. And so we're working on the maturity model as well, so people can evaluate sort of where they are and where they think they might have gaps. Can they participate in one of your working groups so that they can assess to see how they can practically use it? Yeah, they can contact me. No, happy to have that. Happy to have people reach out to me and contact us. Again, our website, grf .org .org. And yeah, we're continuing to develop new working groups and new sector focal points. Our goal is to make the whole ecosystem more resilient, to figure out how organizations can do that and to contribute to security and resilience in any way that we can. So this is one way to do that. Possibly there's a way to incorporate AI element, the latest generative AI element. I would love it, right? I love it. I mean, that's a real passion of mine from many years ago. So it's great to kind of see it finally come into play. And we just have to address it in the right way and with the right security concerns. A highlight from "SEC Chair Gary Gensler reiterates tough stance on crypto" Sep 14, 2023
"It's 8 a .m. Eastern, September the 14th, and this is your daily crypto report. Bitcoin is up slightly at $26 ,496, ETH is up slightly at $1 ,625, and Binance Coin is up slightly at $212. SEC Chair Gary Gensler reiterated a tough stance on the crypto industry during a conference, emphasizing that much of the crypto space is non -compliant with securities laws and Gensler expressed concerns that issues in the crypto industry could affect the broader economy by eroding investor confidence. He described the crypto economy as relatively small but potentially impactful. Gensler also highlighted the prevalence of misconduct in the industry and criticized attempts to circumvent regulations, notably he didn't call for new legislation in the sector. Well, crypto services provider Paxos has been identified as the entity responsible for paying an unusually high fee of 19 .89 Bitcoin or around 500k for a Bitcoin transaction involving around just $200. The company acknowledged the error, describing it as a bug on a single transfer, and stated that it had been resolved. Paxos is in contact with the miner in an attempt to recover the funds. With crypto exchange, Hobi has rebranded internationally as HTX and is focused on expanding. The aim is to apply for more licenses in various jurisdictions over the next decade, according to Justin Sun, an advisor to the firm. HTX will serve the English -speaking user base, and the exchange has already obtained seven licenses in different countries, including Lithuania, Dubai, Australia, Argentina, and Brazil. The rebranding aims to make the name more accessible to Western users. HTX plans to involve users in the listing process by holding votes on which crypto projects to list, making it more democratic. Okbank, Thailand's second largest bank, has created a $100 million fund to invest in Web3 and AI startups. Within Web3, it will consider various tech startups, including those involved in ZK proofs and liquid staking derivatives. The fund aims to invest in over 30 startups and funds worldwide, focusing on the U .S., the EU, Israel, and AIPAC. And finally, crypto exchange OKX is aiming for long -term partnerships with sports giants McLaren and Manchester City. Their deal with McLaren is currently in four or five years, and they aim to extend it for a decade. OKX's global chief marketing officer expressed the company's commitment to forging lasting partnerships in the sports world. Well, that's all for us today. A highlight from GARY GENSLER CALLS ALL CRYPTO SECURITIES AHEAD OF CONGRESS HEARING & SEC RIPPLE XRP APPEAL

Well, folks, I want to start with news around scumbag regulator Gary Gensler. Tomorrow, SEC Chair Gary Gensler will be testifying before the U .S. Senate Banking Committee. And there will be two hearings this month that he's going to be appearing at. And tomorrow is the first. At the end of the month, he'll be testifying before the House Financial Services Committee. I think that's the one that's going to have the most fireworks the last time. It certainly did. Gary got a lot of grilling from Patrick McHenry and a whole bunch of other folks. So I can't wait for that one. So we'll see if he gets any pushback tomorrow. But ahead of his testimony tomorrow, he released a letter. And of course, he's reiterating the same old bullshit about how all crypto tokens are securities. And here's one of his quotes. Given this industry's wide ranging noncompliance with the securities laws, it's not surprising that we've seen many problems in these markets. Now here's what Taylor Barr of the Digital Chamber of Commerce had to say regarding those statements from Gary. Without clear rules of the road and notable regulatory gaps, it's not noncompliance. It's navigating uncharted waters. Yeah, I think we've seen this time and time again. Gary continues these false narratives. We know the market does not have clarity. We're seeing the judges and the courts. The judges are also like, what is the SEC calling a security? You can't even say which ones are security and which ones are not right. They're just the SEC is just throwing anything at the wall right now. And Gary continues lying. This is why we have to keep fighting folks. And we have to tweet. We have to use social media to our advantage. We have to make content. We have to contact our representatives. Now, Mike Selig, who is a crypto and a fin regulation lawyer at Wilkie Farr. He tweeted out some items regarding Gensler's letter. Chair Gensler says the vast majority of crypto tokens meet the investment contract tests. Now, former chair Clayton said every ICO is I've seen is a security. This is similar rhetoric, but different meaning. Unlike Clayton, Gensler says tokens themselves are securities. Judge Torres disagreed. So we know the Ripple ruling was certainly important for case law, highlighting Gary's lies and his false narratives. And even goes back to the Howie case where I've interviewed Hester Peirce, SEC commissioner, where she said she's trying to tell the folks there not to focus on the asset, but rather how it's packaged. So in the case of Howie, it wasn't the oranges, right? It wasn't the trees and the orange groves and all of that. It was rather his investment scheme, because if it was the fruit and the trees, that means every orange tree today is a security. All the oranges in the supermarket and that you have at your house is a security, which is nonsense, obviously, right? Because these tokens, folks, they exist on decentralized blockchains and they are distributed globally. They're outside the United States as well. Right. And you can't get the same rights as stocks. If you hold a token, you don't have voting rights in the sense of having equity and shares of the company and things like that. So it's not a security, but rather how it's packaged. That's the key. That's the differentiator. But Gary Gensler continues his lies. So we got to fight. Let's see how this hearing goes tomorrow. And if he gets pushed any type of pushback, I'm hearing a lot of Democrats and as well as Republicans, of course, are not happy with Gary with how he's doing things with the crypto market. Obviously, him taking a big loss with Grayscale and Ripple is significant. And I hope Coinbase mops the floor with this clown Gensler. And then I hope he gets he gets forced to resign. Now, the SEC is, of course, trying to file an appeal with the Ripple ruling. And here, attorney Frederick Foley shared some thoughts about that. He said, XRP community, SEC made decent arguments and Ripple countered them. Well, certifying the appeal is a discretionary standard. Judge Torres can do whatever she wants if she determines the three statutory conditions are met and there is enough wiggle room for her to certify, he says. But as I predicted earlier, I still say the likely outcome is she does not certified mainly because of the prejudice to the humans involved. Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larson, without the claims against them, I would have to say 100 percent chance she certifies. Lastly, this case has a political element. So if that is a factor for Judge Torres, I don't think it is, but it's not without reason to think the opposite. She can avoid that issue by certifying and putting the onus on the second circuit as the court can simply deny the request. So we'll see. I don't think the SEC has any chance here. You know, once again, they can go ahead and file the appeal. Nothing wrong with that. But will they actually get it through and get something done? I don't think so. I think Gary Gensler has lost the narrative. Optics look very bad for him. And I can't wait to see what the ruling will be with the Coinbase situation. And lo and behold, the irony, folks, that Ripple came and bailed them out. Right. And it's spilling over to BitGo because BitGo's clients are calling and saying, hey, what's going on here? Right. What's with the breach and all that jazz? So it's a mess right now. "Please bow with me in prayer. Our Father in heaven. As we consider your holy word. We ask God that you would give us a teachable spirit. That you would open our eyes so that we can behold the wonderful truth that you have revealed to us. Help us, oh God, to focus, to think clearly. And help us, Father, to be truly thankful that you have given us your truth. We pray this in Jesus' name, Amen. This evening I would like to begin with a reading of Romans chapter 9. Romans chapter 9, beginning at verse 6, and we'll read through verse 21. Romans chapter 9, beginning at verse 6. But it is not that the word of God has taken no effect, for they are not all Israel who are of Israel, nor are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham. But in Isaac your seed shall be called, that is, those who are the children of the flesh. These are not the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as the seed, for this is the word of promise. At this time I will come, and Sarah shall have a son. And not only this, but when Rebekah also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac, for the children not yet being born, having done not anything good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him who calls. It was said to her the older shall serve the younger, as it is written, Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated. What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not. For he says to Moses, I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion. So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy. For the scripture says to the Pharaoh, for this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show you my power in you, and that my name may be declared in all the earth. Therefore he has mercy on whom he wills, and whom he wills he hardens. You will say to me then, why does he still find fault? For who has resisted his will? But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, why have you made me like this? Does not the potter have power over the clay from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor? Amen. If someone were to ask you for one or two words that best describes the book of Acts, what would you say? Some might say Holy Spirit, others Apostolic Church, and still others miracles. Certainly the effects of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit is very important to the book of Acts. No doubt Acts gives much information about the nature and the activities of the Apostolic Church. Furthermore, possibly there are more accounts of miracles in Acts than any other book of the Bible. However, I suggest to you the best one word description of the Acts of the Apostles is evangelism. Luke gives us the most comprehensive account of evangelism in the New Testament Church. Generally speaking, Acts is the record of the disciples being witnesses to Christ from Jerusalem to locations throughout the Roman Empire. Therefore, any serious biblical study of evangelism must include a careful reading of Acts. Now, we've been going through the book of Acts. We're not very far, but we've considered a number of preaching situations that are definitely evangelistic in their nature. And tonight, what I would like to do is I would like to sort of survey a few of the things that we find about evangelism in the book of Acts and compare that to the biblical doctrine of election. And I would like to ask and answer the question, is it biblically consistent to believe in the duty of evangelism and believe that the Bible teaches election? So that will be the goal this evening. The duty to evangelize the world, according to the Acts of the Apostles, the last thing Jesus said to his disciples directly personally while on Earth was verse eight of chapter one, which reads, but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the Earth. Again, this is Acts chapter one at verse eight. For this to be the last thing Jesus said, it must have been very important and something that Jesus did not want his disciples to forget. I mean, just think about it. If you were given an opportunity to make a final statement to friends or important people like family members, surely you would want to say something that you considered very important and that you wanted to be remembered. And this I believe is exactly what Jesus did. And so when he finished giving these words, he was taken up in a cloud out of their sight. Acts chapter one at verse nine. Now what Jesus told his disciples in Acts chapter one verse eight was not something entirely new for Jesus told his disciples basically the same thing in the gospels. For example, in Matthew chapter 28 beginning at verse 18, we read, and Jesus came and spoke to them saying, all authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Lord, to observe all things I have commanded you and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen. So much of what we read after Acts chapter one verse eight is the record of evangelism in the apostolic church. From Jerusalem, the gospel is to be taken more and more into the Roman empire. However, we have other important information about the daily activities of the church. For example, the church was devoted to the apostles teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayers. We read this in Acts 2 42. We also learn about how the Jerusalem church had all things in common. The tragedy of lying to the Holy Spirit, the rise of church persecution from the Jews, the rise of doctrinal controversy and the attempt to settle it in the council of Jerusalem. Yet some people see these things as secondary matters because they believe that the fundamental most basic and important job of the apostolic church was evangelism. Furthermore, some Christians today believe evangelism is still the number one duty of the church. For those who see evangelism as the number one duty of the church, the core activity in witnessing for Jesus Christ is door to door home evangelism that is knocking on doors looking for the opportunity to witness. In addition to this, passing out tracks wherever allowed by law, public preaching on street corners, along with radio, television and internet evangelism are essential. In fact, some see the ultimate measure of the faithfulness of a local church in terms of an organized, consistent evangelism program designed to outreach into the community. And this is going to be reflected by increases in membership of the local church.

"The Word of God says in John 16, 28 and on, I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. I am leaving the world again and going to the Father. His disciples said, Lo, now you are speaking plainly and are not using a figure of speech. Now we know that you know all things and have no need for anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came from God. Jesus answered them, Do you now believe? Behold, an hour is coming and has already come for you to be scattered, each to his own home and to leave me alone. And yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. These things I have spoken to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage. I have overcome the world. The great failure of the contemporary church is that it has stopped regarding this life as a pilgrimage. It no longer considers our presence on this earth as a passing thing. When was the last time that you heard preaching at some evangelical church on the imminence or the nearness of death? When was the last time that you heard a pastor say that believers are but strangers and aliens in this world? It rarely happens because the contemporary church again has made itself at home in this world. Worldly entertainment, worldly speech, worldly conduct, worldly dress, we've settled down and built a house by the road that leads to the New Jerusalem. The problem with that, however, is that this world is ruled by Satan. And the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. And the lusts of this world are not of God and the men of this world are hostile to God. So this world is not the place where you want to make yourself at home. This is not the place where you want to settle because according to 1 John 2 .17 the world is passing away. You don't want to settle in it. You don't want to embrace it. No, but rather you want to overcome it. You want to resist its seductions. You want to reject its baits. You want to conquer the world. Revelation 2 .7, to him who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the paradise of God. And then in verse 11 he says, he who conquers will not be heard by the second death. And in Revelation 3 .12 Jesus says, he who conquers I will make him a pillar in the temple and the house of my God. So either overcome the world or die. And to be sure this is not something that you can do on your own strength. You cannot do it. It's impossible. This is why in 1 John 5 .4 the apostle says, this is the victory that has overcome the world, your efforts. You're working hard. Now, he says this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith. In other words, somebody else has done it. Somebody has to overcome the world on your behalf and faith is the means by which you appropriate yourself of that victory. Faith is the hand by which you grab the spoils of somebody else, namely Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He is the world conqueror. Amen. The world conqueror. Now, in our passage here we get a picture of what it is that made Jesus the world conqueror. And that is, first of all, that he was born of God. That he was born of God. He says at the opening of verse 28, I came forth from the Father. Notice, in this verse Jesus actually uses two expressions that seem to be saying the same thing at first glance but are not. He says in verse 28, I came forth from the Father. And he says, I have come into the world. Those phrases seem to be saying the same thing. But I don't believe Jesus was being redundant here. He's not wasting words. He's talking about two different things. The expression, I came forth from God, is actually just one word in the Greek and it just means to come out, to go out. And the Lord Jesus had used the same word before to explain his origin. He said to the Jews in chapter 8 verse 42, If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded forth or went out from God. In other words, he's saying, if God were your Father, you would love the one who is born from the Father. So this verb speaks of the origin of the Son of God. The second person of the Godhead is born from the first person of the Trinity. He is, as it says in chapter 1 verse 14, the only begotten. And in chapter 1 verse 18, it says that he is the only begotten God. And it says in Hebrews chapter 1 verse 6 that he is the firstborn.

A highlight from Biblical Missions
"We will be looking at quite a few different passages of scripture tonight. Rarely do I speak topically, which is what I've been doing on Sunday night. And we are on the topic of missions and the reason I want to go over the topic of missions is because we need to be more mission -minded, more mission -aware, more mission -alert. We need to take the Great Commission to heart. That when our Lord spoke it many, many years ago, that truth still rings true today. We need to go make disciples. Our goal ultimately, when it comes to missions, you remember what our goal is? Everybody remembers. The goal of missions is to bring glory to God. In Matthew chapter 28, I'll just start out there, and there what we read, as Jesus came in verse 18, He spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world are the ages. Amen. We are commanded to go. We're commanded to make disciples. When it says teach all nations, it's literally saying it's make disciples. And then the Word of God tells us that we need to baptize and teach them all things. In the context of what Jesus is saying here, I believe baptism is an ordinance of the church. And teaching all things should also be a high priority with the Lord's churches. Therefore, missions takes place in the context of a church. The great commission here, I believe, is given to the Lord's church. Our purpose in missions ultimately is to glorify God, but what we do is we don't just evangelize. I hope you picked that up from the last week and the week before. Therefore, we have a goal as far as in missions of glorifying God by starting churches. We do evangelize. That is part of the great commission. But the pattern that the apostle Paul showed in the book of Acts, as he went from place to place, he preached the gospel of Christ, and he started churches from the disciples who started following the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, we are taught through God's word. We are to evangelize. We are to baptize. And we are to teach all things whatsoever he has commanded us. Churches started. When churches started, what happens? They then join in the great commission. As churches start, then they start evangelizing, baptizing, and teaching all things whatsoever he has commanded us. There are other roles when it comes to missions. In our day and times, you have heard of many different roles and missions, such medical as missionary. Or, you know, you can think of other aspects of ministry as far as in missions. But let me tell you tonight, ultimately, it must come in the role of supporting church planting. Church planting is what we target for as far as in missions. Therefore, any other aspect of ministry, when it comes to missions, it must support the effort of church planting. I draw your attention to what we went over last week, over in the book of Romans, chapter 15. In Romans, the 15th chapter, I'd like for you to look down in verse 19. Romans, chapter 15, in verse 19, there we read, Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. He accomplished his purpose as far as in preaching the gospel of Christ from Illyricum all the way to Jerusalem. Then he says, Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation. Then in verse 23, he says, But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you, he had no other place to preach there, simply because the name of Christ had been named. There had been churches that were started. Paul's ministry was starting churches, and as those churches started, then they took part in the Great Commission, and the word of God was proclaimed all around that area. So therefore, you have churches popping up in a lot of different places. I want you to notice what it says over in 2 Corinthians. 2 Corinthians, chapter 10.

A highlight from Matthew: Emmanuel (Which Means God With Us)
"You know, there is a world of difference between saying to someone that I am for you and telling them that I am with you. These two things do not mean the same thing. There's a world of difference between telling someone, I'm for you, I'm in your corner, I'm rooting you on, you've got this. There's a world of difference between telling someone that and telling them, I'm with you. In World War I, there was a lieutenant. His troops were getting ready to go over the edge. They were ready to take on the enemy. They were ready to cross the trenches. And this lieutenant, he's anxious. He's nervous about what might happen, and he sees a commander coming down through the trenches. The commander looks at this man, and he can see the anxiety. He can see the nerves there, and so he comes alongside him, puts his arm on him, and he points out. He points out to where they're going. He points out to no man's land. And he tells them, when we go out there, I'm going to be with you. We're going to do this together. And that gave the younger man a sense of confidence. It wasn't the old grizzled veteran just saying, you got this, from a distance, and go do it. Rather, he was saying, I'm going to be with you as you do it. I'm with you in the trenches, and I'm going to be with you in the battle yet to come. As we said, it's one thing to tell someone I'm for you. That's easy. You can do that to anyone. It's another thing to say, I'm going to invest myself in the outcome of what you're going through. I'm going to enter into the crucible of your pain with you, at your side. There's a comfort when a commander or a general does it, but how much more so when a god does that. When god not only gives us a word and says, hey, you got this. I'm for you. I'm in your corner. But rather when he says, I am with you as you face this. There's something encouraging about that. In today's text, it's exactly what we see. In today's reading, the birth of this child, the one who had come from a throne down to a manger. In this text, we see that this one was to be named Immanuel. That this one was the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. And that his name literally means God with us. God with us. Not just God for us, but God with us. Verse 23 of our text will say, behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son. They shall call his name Immanuel, which means God with us. This is one of the primary attributes, one of the primary things that makes our god cool, that makes our god awesome. One of the primary things is because he didn't just create the cosmos, spin it like a top, and then go off and watch us from a distance to see how things would turn out. Rather, from the get -go, from Jump Street, from the garden, that which he created, he dwells with. He creates Adam, he creates Eve, and then he walks and talks with them in the cool of the afternoon. The pagan gods didn't do this sort of thing. They didn't pay attention necessarily to everything that was going on. The god of the deists, the people who think that God is just this aloof god out in the cosmos somewhere that has nothing to do with us, who wants that kind of god? Thank God that's not the god we have. Rather, we have a god who is with us in the midst of everything we're going through. This was true in the garden. It was true at Sinai. It was true in the tabernacle. It was true in the temple. That's true for even us as New Testament believers because where does God reside now? God is with us. Do you know how the book of Matthew closes? Do you know what the very last verse is? Here we see as Jesus is introduced, his name means, I'm with you, God with us, the very last verse in the book of Matthew, the very last block of text in the book of Matthew says the same thing. In the Great Commission, we see this. Go therefore, make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, teaching them to serve all the things I've commanded you, and lo, I am with you even to the end of the age. You see that? There's a bookend. The moment Jesus is introduced in chapter 1, the message is that God has come down from the throne to be with his people. And then prior to his ultimate ascension, he says the same thing because I'm going to leave my helper. Oh, and by the way, I am with you even to the end of the age. That's a God we can love. That's a God we can worship. A God who is not just for us but a God who is with us. All right, if you would, let's look at verses 18 and 19. We're going to talk about the God who is with us as we see of his birth. In verses 18 and 19, we're going to see what was going on with Mary Joseph, and then we're going to work our way through the text as time will allow. Okay, verses 18 and 19. Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows. After his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph, her husband, being a just man and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. All right, at the start of this passage, we see something just very ordinary, something as natural as natural can be. There's a woman, an individual who's pregnant, a pregnancy that will lead to childbirth. Very natural, happens all the time. However, in these verses, we see that there's something unnatural or at least unusual that's going to take place. Verse 18 adds an unordinary qualifier. It says that there's going to be a pregnancy, normal, but in this case it will occur without physical union. Now I'm not a physician, but I have studied anatomy and the like, and I know that's just not the way that this works. Well, verse 18, we're seeing the seeds for something that we call the virgin birth, and this is one of the most important things to understand with regards to Christ's birth, with regards to the incarnation, because this is not an average everyday event. Rather, this is a miracle, and it's not just a miracle, but it's a fulfillment of prophecy, because Isaiah said this is the way it was going to go down. Behold, there be a virgin who would give birth to a child. Now verse 18 clarifies it. It's not Joseph's child, and for these verses, we know this much. They're betrothed, but there's been no physical union then. Now if you've seen Fiddler on the Roof, you remember the matchmaker? Remember the matchmaker? Well, they had similar things throughout Jewish history. They would have a season in which people were brought together. This was tradition. They were brought together by matchmakers and parents and others. They were put into a union, and yet there was a year. I know you want to sing it. There was a year of time after they were brought together in which they were sort of betrothed. We might consider it engaged. It's not really a point -for -point analogy, but they were betrothed. They spent a year in this estate prior to physical union. That's what's going on here. It's actually much stronger than an engagement. This is a strong relationship that they have, and yet it has not been consummated physically at this point. And so, all of a sudden, out of the blue, Mary is with child. Uh -oh. Now, we have lost touch with the word scandal. We really have. I mean, dear heavens, everything is a scandal. It doesn't matter what news. Whatever you pick up, there's a scandal on every page from every direction. It seems like every aspect of celebrity or politics or athletics or what have you, scandal, scandal, scandal. We've lost touch with it. In fairness, it didn't always used to be this way. If you're watching a TV show, if Barney Fife stole part of Andy Griffith's sandwich, they can make a whole scandalous episode out of that. There was things in the past that seemed scandalous at the time that now it's absolutely nothing. We've lost touch with scandal to the point we look at this text, and we don't understand what Joseph's going through. And his culture and his time, what he and Mary were just experiencing. She's pregnant, and there's no father. There's been no physical union. He is betrothed to someone who's pregnant, doesn't know what's going on. This was a scandal of scandals. And in his day, based on an understanding of Deuteronomy, this could even have led to her death. This was not a small thing. This is a huge, huge event that's taking place. And so, in verses 18 and 19, we see Joseph in the middle of a conundrum. He's betrothed to this individual who has this situation going on. He doesn't know how it happened. He doesn't know exactly what's going on, but he has concern. Now, he cares for Mary enough that he doesn't want to see this become the public spectacle that it otherwise very well could be. And so he attempts to find some way to accommodate her well -being, but apart from being able to marry her, because he's a just man, and there's obviously been in his mind an infidelity that's taken place that would disqualify that union. Now, before he could act on that impulse, an angel intervenes. Let's look at verses 20 and 21 to see what happens in this intervention. Verse 20, but while he thought about these things, while Joseph thought about all this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she'll bring forth a son, you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. All right. As we said in verses 18 and 19, Joseph and Mary, Mary is now pregnant. Joseph is trying to figure out what to do. And in verse 20, we see that while he's contemplating, which I'm sure this took some time for him to work this through, but while he's thinking about these things, he goes to sleep. He's worried, he's anxious, he falls asleep, and in the midst of his sleep, an angel of the Lord comes to him in a vision, in a dream. And this happens at other intervals as scripture as well. And when the angel comes to Joseph, it's a simple message. It says, Joseph, what you think has happened is not accurate. But let me tell you, you're worried you should take Mary as your wife. You shouldn't be. Do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. Now, I don't know what kind of theologian Joseph was at this point. We believe him to be older than Mary, but we don't know what kind of theologian he was. But whatever his theology was, he probably didn't fully understand that last statement. That which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. Joseph didn't have John Calvin around to explain all the Trinitarian implications of this. And I imagine Joseph had more questions than answers, even when he hears this news. And yet he knew this much, even if he didn't have all the Trinity figured out at this time, even if he doesn't know what it means for the Spirit to overshadow her, even if he's still going, what does that mean? He at least knew this much, that Mary's pregnancy was not a function of her sin. He knew that there was not some other father in some tent down the street. He knew that the child that she was pregnant with was from God. And some way that he probably couldn't fully articulate, but he knew it was from God. And then God, through the angel, tells Joseph what to name him. Now naming rites in Jewish culture or any culture come from seats of authority. If you think about it in the garden, in the garden, Adam and Eve, you know, they're given the garden and all the animals are frolicking about as animals do. And Adam and Eve had a job, they actually had a couple of jobs. One was to take dominion over that which God had given them, and another thing was to do what for the animals? To name them, right? The greater names, the lesser, right? That's why parents named children are not children naming parents. Kind of glad it doesn't work that way. In this case, we see that God himself, through the angel, takes ownership over the name of his own son. It's not up to Joseph to name. He says his name will be Jesus. His name will be Jesus. We'll see that a little bit more in the verses yet to come. Whatever the case here is, the idea is that as this child is born of the Holy Spirit, this child comes with a purpose. His name will be Jesus because Jesus means what? It means the Lord is salvation. His person is yoked to his work. The angel identifies his person and his origins from God, the Holy Spirit, but he also identifies here's what he's come to do, and we're going to see that a little bit more in the verses yet to come. What we're also going to notice here, just a minute, is that when the angel talks about who will come to save his people from their sins, remember last week we talked about this. The people didn't necessarily have a problem with their sins. You know what the great irony is? You give someone a cure for a disease they don't think they have. If you come running up to someone on the streets of Gulfport with a vial of some cure, some medicine, or what have you, for a disease they don't understand they got, they'll just say, you crossed the other side of the street. They won't care because they don't recognize what you're holding is the cure for a problem that they have. The same is true with sin. The culture around us doesn't really think they have a problem with sin, and if they do think sin is a problem, they do this thing that's convenient. They redefine sin to be something that is external to them, a problem other people have. Whatever the case, when people had no understanding that they need to be saved from sin, if anything that they need to be saved from, it was going to be from Rome, which is what we talked about last week. Their fear, their concern, Joseph's concern, Mary's concern, the people down the street's concern was not so much that, oh, my sin is going to get me. And yet, that was the spiritual guillotine that was over their necks and ours apart from this child that was born. Every man, woman, and child has stood condemned under sin. You read the Book of Romans, the first five, six chapters, as Paul is condemning the human race and saying, well, this is our problem. Then, of course, he introduces the solution. Well, the angel introduced the solution too and says, this one has come not just to make your life better, not just to pour a little Jesus seasoning on things to give you your best life now. This one came to this end, to this object, to save you from your sins, to save you from a problem that you might not even understand that you have and that our culture certainly doesn't understand it has. That's why he came, and here's the thing. That's what the whole Old Testament said he would do. The Old Testament said when he shows up, when the Messiah we've been waiting from since Genesis 3 .15, when the seed shows up, he will come to save people from their sins, not what they were looking for in the first century, not what they were looking for in the 21st century. And yet the Old Testament prophecy said that's the guy to look out for, one who is not what you expect, one who will come to save you from your sins, one who is not going to come down on a red carpet from God, but will be born in a place like a manger. Isaiah 53, one of the most famous chapters that speaks to these issues, says this. This one would be wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement for our peace would be upon him. By his stripes we'll be healed. All we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned everyone to our own way, and the Lord has laid upon him the iniquity of us all. The angel got it, and he says in the manger, Joseph, and in the womb of Mary right now is the one that has come to do just that. And the cruel irony is the people won't be looking for that. As he gets older, they'll reject him. They'll reject what he came to do, and yet this is the one. This is the child. All right, let's take a look now at verses 22 through 25 and just kind of build on this case. Okay, verse 22. So all this was done, that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the Lord through the prophets, saying, Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a son. They shall call his name Immanuel, which is translated God with us. Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took to him his wife, and did not know her until she had brought forth her firstborn son, and he called his name Jesus. All right, as we just said a moment ago, Christ's person is yoked to his work. The great problem in our age is that our culture doesn't do the same thing. At Christmastime in December, you just watch, people don't have a real problem with the person of Jesus so much. They like cute Jesus, even divine Jesus. That's not really the problem. The problem is his work. He came to convict us of our sins, to turn our hearts to God, to cause us to repent, and to rescue us from sins that most of us don't acknowledge that we have. But in this text, the angel spells it all out. He says this is the reason he's coming. This is the reason he's coming, in order to save them from their sins. And as he saves them from their sins, he will be the fulfillment of prophecies that said he would do just that, which is why even the angel quotes the Old Testament here. End of verse 23. Behold, the virgin shall be with child, shall bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel, which is translated God with us. There's a continuity you're supposed to see with that which is written down recorded in the Old Testament and that which comes on the scene here in Matthew chapter 1. God wants us to see that, and Matthew was desperate that his contemporaries saw it. Remember, their problem when they killed Jesus was they didn't recognize him for who he was. I mean, they had other issues too, but that was chief among them. They just didn't know what they were doing. Isn't that what Jesus said? Father, forgive them. They don't know what they're doing. Same idea. They had a Messiah on their radar that they wanted, and it wasn't this one, this guy. So at Matthew, when he's writing chapter 1, when he's writing to the Jews, he started with the genealogies we talked about last week, and he said, all right, this Jesus is going to be a son of Abraham, which makes him a Jew, and it's going to be a son of David, which makes him a king, or in the line of kings. His objective was to tell the Jewish audience who this Jesus was. Well, here, as chapter 1 continues, he gives the biography even more so, and he says that this one, this Jesus, which means God is salvation, is also named Immanuel, which is an Old Testament prophecy that means God with us. Matthew's making the case, even here in chapter 1, clearly in chapter 1, to a Jewish audience, that this is the Jewish Messiah. Now, would that be compelling? Well, to some, yes. To others, not so much. Now, the past 15 minutes or so, we've quoted Isaiah a few times. I think I referenced Malachi as well, but there in verses 22 through 25, we see the reference again to Isaiah more acutely, more specifically, and this is a reference that to the Jewish audience should have resonated with him, but again, as we just said a moment ago, the irony is that it didn't. The reason that's ironic is this. Matthew knew that many of his fellow Jews had rejected Jesus while simultaneously longing for a Messiah, and his objective here in chapter 1 is to say, hey, guys, they're the one and the saint. The one you rejected is the one you were looking for, and that's what Peter does in Acts 2. He tells the Pharisees, you know the one you killed, the one you nailed to a tree, the one you hung on the cross? That was him, and when they finally get it in the book of Acts, when they finally get that, what happens to them? Scripture says they're just broken to the heart because then they understand what they did. They understand that the light of life had come to them. They didn't recognize it, and then they killed them. As we look to wrap up, we're going to build on all these things as we head towards baptism, as we go towards the temptation, and the things that are going to follow in the book of Matthew, but as we wrap up, I want to return briefly to the word Emmanuel, which we've already established means God with us. Now, earlier I used the term, the term deus. Let me explain briefly. I know many of us know it, but let me explain briefly for those who don't. Every culture, when it comes to religion, there's two camps that they fall in. One, assuming that they believe in God at all, one is the camp of the deist. That camp believes God exists, but we can't know him. He formed the world around us, but then he went off and he does his thing and we do ours. That's deism. As Christians, we're not deists. The alternate is what we call theism. Theism posits that God exists, but you can know him, and what's more, he wants you to know him. You and I are theists, and if you drill into that term even more, we're monotheists. We believe in one God. We're not polytheists that believe in a lot of them. We believe that there is a God. You can have a relationship with him. There is a God and there is just one. Now, that's highly desirable because the alternative is you have a God you can't know that doesn't care about you, and that's what a lot of agnostics in our day do. They go, I think there might be a God somewhere, but they really don't think you can have a relationship with him. Who wants that? Who desires that? Well, the picture in Matthew 1 and throughout the book of Matthew, the picture that's painted here is completely different. It's not about a God who formed the cosmos and went away. Rather, it's a God who is ever -present with creation and undergoes the life experiences, the human experiences that we do up to and including birth. You have a God that can relate to you. You know, one of the greatest hardships or plagues on our age is the plague of loneliness. It's this idea that no one can relate to what I'm going through. The life circumstances have conspired in such a way that I'm going through something that no one can really understand, no one can really relate to, and then there's an isolation that comes with that, even a withdrawal. Maybe some people withdraw from us, and then we're left in this estate. Some of us, maybe many of us, are left in a state of loneliness, maybe for a season, maybe for a lifetime, and it's the hardest thing if you've experienced it. If that's you or someone you know, this message of God with us, and this word of manual should hold a special meaning. Others leave might us, others might forsake us, others might let us down, and yet the God who walked with Adam and Eve, when there was just two of them in the cool of the afternoon, walks with us still. Even we're just one of us. God is with us no matter what we're going through. He's not just munching popcorn, watching what you're going through this week. Some of us have a picture of God that He's up there in the clouds somewhere with a long beard, a long robe, and He's just kind of doing this to see what we do, and He's ready to punish us and the like, and He's there and we're here, and there's this distance. That's not the God of Scripture. The God of Scripture is a God who is intimate and close and wants to be close to you and wants your hand to fit in His. He doesn't call you a peon in the kingdom of heaven. He calls you a son or daughter, and that has meaning. What father or mother among us has not held the hand of our child and felt that proximity, felt that closeness, felt that bond, felt that unity that comes with holding your own? Well, that's what God wants with you. And even now, even if we've been fleeing from Him, His arms are open to this. He came as a babe and a manger, the most defenseless thing that you can possibly come. He came from a state of great glory into a state of great hardship, great difficulty. It would ultimately lead to His death, and yet He did it because He loves His people. He's not indifferent to us. He's not indifferent to us. The other problem that we can sometimes verge into is we can think that He's indifferent to me, but He's cool with other Christians, but I've done something that is so egregious or He knows my past or He knows the things I did yesterday because of that there's this gap. If there's any gap in your walk with God, it's not because He's drifted away from you. It's because you're pushing Him away. The God of this book does not withdraw from children, from sons and daughters, but He's like the parable of the prodigal son. His arms are open wide. Matthew 1, God with us. Matthew 28, God with us. Behold, I am with you even to the end of the age. Whatever you face this week, this book is not an abstract thing that just applies to other religious people or you on occasion. It applies to you today. God's with you as you face whatever you're facing, whatever hardship you're walking down, whatever valley you're traversing, God is with you, and that's a great encouragement of Scripture, and no other faith can present it except this alone. Welcome back to the Thinking Crypto podcast, your home for cryptocurrency news and interviews with me today is James Seyfert, who is an ETF research analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence. James, great to have you back on. Yeah. Thanks for having me. Happy to be here. James, it feels like we recently, yeah, round two, we spoke like just a few weeks ago, talking about ETFs and what may be around the corner. And lo and behold, yesterday, Grayscale got a victory in their appeal against the SEC with the denial of their Bitcoin spot ETF. What were your thoughts on that victory by Grayscale? Yeah, I don't want to say I called it, but I called it. So like I said, I kind of hinted there, we were expecting this to an extent. We weren't expecting Grayscale to get a victory here, but we weren't quite expecting how harsh and the complete and utter rebuke of the SEC arguments that they've been using for the last few years. Some people said last 10 years. It's more that these arguments have been there, but it's really these arguments came about since they launched the Bitcoin futures ETFs in 2021. So I mean, the real overarching thing is like we expected Grayscale to win, but I didn't fully expect the language to be as harsh as it was. And I wasn't certain. It was unanimous. So it was a 3 -0 decision from these judges. So it's a panel of judges decide this. I thought it would probably be at least 2 -1 and likely even 3 -0, which most people kind of disagreed with me on. But yeah, so it was a 3 -0 unanimous decision, very harsh language, putting down everything the SEC has said in the last couple of years for denying spot Bitcoin ETF. So it was a monumentous win for Grayscale. Yeah. I mean, it looks like the government checks and balances playing out here with the judicial branch is really bringing the balance of power back, putting the regulators in their place to a certain degree and giving the green light to the industry in multiple cases. So I know that a lot of people are excited about this news and I certainly am excited about it, but the Grayscale ETF hasn't been approved yet. They just said it's unfair that you can't block it on the grounds that you're trying to, the SEC that is. So what could the SEC do next? Could they come up with another reason to deny the Grayscale ETF or is there a likelihood of them approving it? So there's three, possibly four ways that I could see this going, right? The first way, which half of Cryptotour thought this was, was that there was an approval for GBDC to convert to an ETF. That as you said, that is not the case. Really all this is doing is vacating, like you said, the decision that denied them converting GBC into an ETF. So that's all it's doing. It's vacating decision. What happens next? We're not really sure. You kind of hit this in the intro, like we should know within the next week or two what happens next. Is Grayscale going to have to completely refile? I'm not sure. The SEC could theoretically file or request an unbonk hearing, which is kind of like an appeal rather than the three judge panel. It would include all the judges in the court, which I think there's 17 judges on the court would take a look at it. So we'll know exactly what's going to happen the next at least 45 days, right? Because they have 45 days to request an unbonk hearing. So that's the thing, right? So the first option is they approve this application and then likely all these other ETF filers are also going to be approved if the SEC goes that avenue. The other avenue is they kind of delay and stall and force Grayscale to completely reapply and who knows, then we're looking at 2024 for anything to happen, right? So that's kind of also like a middle ground answer. And the third option is they just issue denials for two other reasons. One path that I can see them going down, which is rather unlikely in our view, but some other people in our orbit think it's possible, is that they would have to withdraw basically or revoke the approval of Bitcoin futures ETFs. I hinted at the strong language that Judge Rao gave in this opinion. So she wrote the opinion, which was for all three judges. And she completely, as I said, shot it down. But all that language focused on the fact that the SEC had already approved Bitcoin futures ETFs and now we're denying Spot and there is no reason or argument or it's said that the SEC lacked reason decision making to do that. So basically they said you can't have Bitcoin futures ETFs and then say Spot is subject to fraud and manipulation because those markets are so intertwined. If one is subject to fraud and manipulation, then they both are. So one avenue is, all right, then Bitcoin futures ETFs aren't allowed anymore and then we're also denying Spot on the same premise. Again, I think that's unlikely, we just had a 2x Bitcoin futures launch in June. The SEC is now saying they're going to launch Ethereum futures ETFs. Not a done deal, but it's likely going to happen in October. So I think that's unlikely. The other avenue for denying again is focusing on something else I mentioned. It's all intertwined between the futures ETFs and Spot ETFs. That's what this ruling really focused on. If you focus on things that are not related to futures ETFs or things that the futures ETFs are not subject to, then maybe you could get around it again. In this case, my main theory, which has been my theory, I might have even said it on the podcast last time I was gone, is they could focus on something like custody. If they say like, we're worried about custody, we don't want state regulated custodians, we want federally regulated custodians of which there technically are none. There's all these things that they can point to. SAB121 is a staff accounting bulletin that basically doesn't allow banks to hold crypto or do anything which will cause issues with settlement for any of these ETFs. When you create or redeem shares, you go through one of those big banks typically, so they won't be able to hold Bitcoin. So there's all these avenues that the SEC could go down relating to the actual touching of Spot Bitcoin that might be a hold up for these ETFs going forward. That said, our main view here is that the most politically advantageous route here is for them to turn around and give the OK on these Bitcoin and Ethereum type products based on what we're getting from the SEC and seeing things from other people on the back end. But those other avenues are definitely plausible.

A highlight from Christ's Charge to the Church
"I am excited to be here again this morning. It is a blessing to be able to come and study the Word together. If you would find Matthew 28 verses 16 through 20 in your Bibles, that will be our text this morning. Matthew 28, starting at verse 16 through the end of the book. Then the 11 disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Y 'all, what are we doing here? Why does this church even exist? Why does any church exist? If you asked a random selection of evangelical Christians in our society, what is the purpose of the church? The answers you received would probably be some good answers, but mostly miss the main point. Some would argue, well, the church is about relationships. The church exists to give Christians a means to fulfill the one -otherness that we've talked about in recent weeks. The loving fellowship of church members is good, but it is not our primary purpose. Some would have a loftier view and say that the church exists as a means to worship. We have a church so that we can assemble together and praise and worship of our God and Savior Jesus Christ in a corporate setting. Y 'all, humble worship is good, but it is not our primary purpose. Some would say maybe the church exists for the purpose of learning. After all, the point of Sunday school lessons and of biblical messages is that we join together around scripture in order to learn the word of God. This is our source of faith and practice. Learning is good. But learning is not our primary purpose. In fact, we are not learning just for the sake of learning. In fact, everything we learn, everything we believe is to be put into practice, into active service of the Lord Jesus. Some view the church as a social service agency, right? The church is an organization that, well, it reaches out into the community showing the love and mercy of the Lord Jesus by expressions of kindness and expressions of charity. Y 'all, community activism is good, but a church has failed when it thinks that giving charitably fulfills its purpose because you can give someone groceries and pay their utility bill without ever giving them what it is that they need the most. All of these things are good, and in fact, all of those should be characteristics of the Lord's churches as they follow the Bible's commands for the Christian community, right? Loving fellowship, humble worship, purposeful learning, charitable kindness, those things should be marks of the Lord's church. They are all good, but none of them are primary. The primary calling of the Lord's church is to fulfill the Great Commission, which is given in our text this morning. Our goal this morning will be to see the final words in Matthew's gospel record the Great Commission, the command in which the Lord Jesus requires his church to submit to his authority to declare his gospel and rejoice in his presence. These final words of Matthew's gospel are in fact the climactic point of the entire book that he has written. He's been building up to this point since the beginning of his gospel. John MacArthur refers to this text as, quote, the climax and major focal point not only of this gospel but of the entire New Testament. It's not an exaggeration to say that in the broadest sense, it's the focal point of all scripture. The entire point of Matthew's gospel up to this text has been to prove that the Lord Jesus is king. He began with a genealogy proving that Jesus has right to be king. He continued through the ministry of Jesus showing how he's the complete fulfillment of all the Old Testament promises about a Messiah king. In Matthew chapter 10, the Lord Jesus gathers his disciples and he sends them out. Actually Matthew 10 is what I like to call a pre -existing commission because he sends out his disciples and specifically tells them in Matthew 10, you only go to the household of Israel and declare the kingdom of heaven under the authority of Messiah king Jesus. And now in our text, having secured salvation through his death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus expands that commission to his church by telling them to now take that message out nations, to all reaching them with the gospel. This is the great commission. When we ask, what are we doing here? Why does this church exist? This has to be our answer. There's a lot else that we're called to do, right? Fellowship and worship and learning and serving but we'll even see in this text that all of those things are subservient to this because all of them are explicitly contained in this great commission as a portion of it. This commission is the church's highest calling. So again, the great commission is the command in which the Lord Jesus requires his church to submit to his authority, declare his gospel, and rejoice in his presence. This has to be, even though it is the final command, it is our highest priority. And so we'll examine it this morning in those three areas. First, I want you to see the church is called to submit to the authority of king Jesus. Submit to the authority of king Jesus. Now, to sort of set the scene for a moment, Matthew is very brief in presenting his post -resurrection commentary in his gospel, right? The resurrections just occurred at the beginning of this chapter. The Lord Jesus has already been betrayed and arrested and condemned and crucified. Two disciples named Joseph and Nicodemus had appealed to be allowed to take his body and bury him in Joseph's family tomb. After three days, the tomb was miraculously opened, it was found empty, confirming that the resurrection of the Lord Jesus is a historical fact. And when that happens at the beginning of this chapter, beautiful chaos erupts among the disciples in Jerusalem. The risen from the dead Jesus appeared to many of them. Now, each of the four gospels tells some different portions of that story. Matthew only focuses on the experience of the women who found the tomb empty. Up in verses 5 through 7, you can see an angel invites them into the empty tomb, orders them to go back and tell the other disciples what they've seen, and on their way back to tell the other disciples what they've seen, in verses 9 and 10, the Lord Jesus himself appears to them along the way as they went. As a matter of fact, in verse 10, look at that. Chapter 28, verse 10, Jesus said to them, do not be afraid, go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee and there they shall see me. There is this confirmed plan that the disciples of Jesus are to meet him in Galilee, in the northern region of Israel. And while verse 10 doesn't tell us the specific place in Galilee that they're to meet him, our text does show us that there was a specific place. Look at verse 16. Then the 11 disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. They knew where it was exactly that they were supposed to go. Verse 17 says, when they saw him, they worshiped, but some doubted.

Well, it actually started in high school I joined the Missouri National Guard when I was 17 went to boot camp in Portland win, Missouri Graduated from that went back to high school and did my senior year and then moved on to AIT which is the training for the army and I was a tactical radio communicator So basically I carried a backpack radio and worked on their radios got a chance to go to Germany For a large NATO US exercise and kind of opened up my world view and my eyes a little bit You know as an 18 year old coming out of Missouri central, Missouri There's a you know, I lived in farmland. So I got to see what was going on there now I'm in another country traveling around with people that are a lot older than me that been around so Got a got a good view into a little bit about what the world was going what was going on in the world So fast forward I decided to go to college I'm in college pursuing a degree in aviation and Too much college activities and not enough good enough grades and they they gave me the invitation not to return You gotta see MSU Yes, yeah, right there in Lawrenceburg. Yep Yep, so great program great school Just it wasn't a good time for me at that time too. I wasn't ready So now I'm deciding what am I gonna do am I gonna join the army and Start seeing some commercials about the Coast Guard on TV. I'm like in Missouri You don't see a lot of Coast Guard, you know, because we're in the center of the country. We're landlocked There's there is a Coast Guard there. I found out later on but not to my knowledge at the time So I get in my car. I live in Colombia and I drive to st. Louis to see a recruiter I get the recruiters office goes. Hey, thank you for your interest But I can't recruit you you live on the wrong side of the Missouri River you need to go to Kansas City So now back in the car driving to Kansas City and Get all the stuff done and there's an eight -month wait list to get in so I go ahead and sign the paperwork and delay entry finally getting the Coast Guard and After graduating boot camp, I end up going to Tillamook Bay, Oregon So basically they've got a motor lifeboats that are like the tanks in the water They're meant to take 30 40 foot waves you get there the windows are made of bulletproof glass 300 bulletproof glass you get into the boat and You strap in with a helmet your dry suit and the seat belts and buckle in And you go out there and take waves and try not to take waves But sometimes you have to for the fishing boat to fleet that's coming in So what an exciting job, you know at 21 years old you're out there charging these giant waves Get in beat up by the waves and pulling people out of water and rescuing them It could have ended right there. I could have stayed in that job forever. It was it was amazing. It was an adrenaline rush But I wanted to do aviation still So I put my name on the school list to go to aviation the Coast Guard and I went to Elizabeth City, North Carolina for and Electronics avionics Had to wait a year for that school, so I got to play around in Oregon for a while the school 38 weeks Learn how to do all the component repair of all the electronics on the plane Graduated from there and get my first units in Traverse City, Michigan like where's Traverse City, Michigan and it's all the way up north and As far it's in the northern part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan So and at the time they were flying Of course each series or what the army would have or other services BC Kings or or Jolly Green Giants So I get there and I learned that after going to school all this time. I really don't know anything So it's time. It's time to start learning. You're an apprentice. So, you know, you start learning everything about the plane and the organization And Soon as I learned everything about the HCI thought I needed to know we transitioned to 60s So then we get the Seahawks the Coast Guard version of the Seahawk so got to do that and so spend eight to ten years Learning, you know my craft and trade and and just enjoying the Coast Guard You know the camaraderie the people in the organization the mission And then took a took my next tour to Alaska So I got to go to Kodiak, Alaska and help them transition because nobody was qualified to fly the 60s yet only the first units so I got to go up there and help stand up the program and Start, you know training everybody and flying that mission with the 60 But they didn't have the 60s yet. So I had to go back to the X trees and fly that again So it's kind of flying in both at the same time. So it was nice I mean I was getting you know, three and four hundred hours a year flight time and You know, it was Alaska some of the most beautiful flying you can imagine we do stuff that you know, I couldn't pay for So got to do that And then after leaving Traverse City or after leaving Kodiak my transition again to another helicopter I moved in Detroit and we moved to the Eurocopter 65 Which is a smaller business corporate helicopter that the Coast Guard uses for its ship based operations so I got to do that and then I'm starting to roll up on my my my 20 20 years it's gonna be coming up here pretty soon. I'm at 15. I'm starting to think what am I gonna do? So I started doing, you know different college programs. So they give my associate degree Well, I got my associate degree knocked out while I still in Detroit and then we go back to Alaska where? I'm within a two -year window now so planning on Transitioning out at 20. I go ahead and get my my Microsoft engineering degree And then that takes a year to do that so the tour in Alaska is only three years so back to Traverse City and I'm looking at getting out at that point in time and that's where I start my first business up there I started business in 2002 building computer repair computers and servicing Computers for large corporations. Yeah, where did the where the desire to where the desire to search your own business come from? Um, well, I knew I needed to get out and I didn't really want to it was gonna be hard to replace an organization I'm already in I didn't necessarily want to work for a company Yeah, and so doing my own thing in my own, you know not have to rely on somebody else To get the job done because I know I can do the job and I wanted to do it myself So there was a desire. I did that job for about four years and then Lo and behold I promoted myself out of my position. I was in in Traverse City So it was either I was in you seven at the time and I was gonna make a yay So like okay, where can I go and you know make that kind of money? I'm not I'm not generating that kind of income at this point in time So kind of put that in the back burner and shelved it for a while also, I was seeing I'd get my Microsoft degree and I saw that everything was getting outsourced and Working on hands -on technology You're always chasing the certification because everything's changing so quickly within the computer industry I wasn't sure how how much I wanted to stay continually chasing that certification So decide to go back to school we transfer to Miami at that point and That was a Big culture shift going from Alaska to Traverse City down to Miami because the missions are different. Yeah cold to hot Right. So I went more from more of a search and rescue law enforcement to more of a law enforcement search and rescue So the emphasis was more on law enforcement down in Florida with the international treaties and border protection type mission So I started going back to school again get my bachelor's degree and Finished up that and then again, so I wasn't looking at getting out at that point. We're at year 24 at that point Promoted again made Master Chief for E9 and was waiting and Wanted to go back to Detroit fortunately, nobody else wanted to go back to Detroit and I was able to pick up that job as The command enlisted advisor working for the CEO in Detroit What great job great experience wonderful people I worked with and then at that point I started working on my master's degree and business with Masters in health care administration some kind of shotgunning, you know the different things I'm planning on doing when I get out I want to make sure I could cover all the bases. I had done troop the teacher signed up for it Got a degree in history got a degree and business and then what got an MBA and then an MHA and Didn't do any of that when I got out So, what was your transition like you end up getting the JOB and was it smooth on the way out because I mean you're you're prepared educational wise but What was the twist in turn? Yeah, it's interesting because you know and it's not from the organization you don't hear but I think ourselves we underestimate our Capabilities when we're in we're thinking hey, we're in this job We've been doing the same job on the military side But when I get out I'm gonna I don't I can't how do I deal with and how do I work in that? Organization, you know, how do I fit in and how do I provide value? "Senior investment strategy at Bank of America, joining us a little earlier. And she talked about NVIDIA being like this macroeconomic event because it's a bellwether for the entire AI industry. It's become a bellwether for the entire AI industry given the kind of reaction that it generated not just for its own stock, but for big tech and anything tangentially tied to AI, right? I mean, we still see it with every company, including the words AI in their press release during earnings season. Well, just about 24 hours ago, until we get those results, you take a look at how markets closed today. The S &P 500, we're going to finish low about three tenths of a percent after that pop we saw yesterday. The Nasdaq composite doing a little bit better, better going to close a hair higher here. Dow Jones, though, the biggest loser today off by about half a percent. Looks like Carol. All right. So we dig a little bit deeper. Katie into the S &P 500. Most names in the index, 305 to be exact to the downside. So certainly a risk off trade, certainly more of that feeling in the broader market. And then, Scarlett, you've got about one hundred ninety four gaining gaining ground today. And so it's definitely geared towards the decliners. And you see that reflected in the industry groups. These are the two dozen industry groups, level two for the S &P 500. And on the downside, you've got banks leading the way lower off by two point four percent as a group on that downgrade from S &P and chip related companies. That's Nvidia right there. The group losing one point six percent. On the upside, tech hardware, that's Apple Telecom Services, AT &T and Verizon and Tesla giving the auto stocks a little bit of a lift. All right, folks, let's get to some of those individual gainers. And lo and behold, Moderna again atop that list. It's number two gainer in the S &P 500, number one in the Nasdaq 100 up two consecutive days. We're talking about a gain of about 12 percent in those days. Still down about 76 percent from its August twenty twenty one high when it traded at forty four a share. It's one hundred and sixteen twenty four at the close.

Eric, we've had another really interesting week this week. It's August and we just came out of July, usually slow news, but not at all. So let's start out with the top story of the week. And that is GPT -5. Yes. You wrote about this. It's imminent. It's coming next week. Why do, why is there even a story here about GPT -5? We're just observing GPT -4, which is maybe the most competent, but the slowest of all generative AI chatbots. Yeah. It's kind of funny because GPT -4 came out early on, early this year and fairly soon after where people were already asking about, oh, is GPT -5 also coming? Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI said they are not training it. He said there's no plans at the moment for training it. So people weren't sure what was going to, what sort of timeline there might be for the next iteration. But lo and behold, a couple of weeks ago, OpenAI went ahead and trademarked GPT -5 with the US Patent and Trademark Office for this file, the claim they haven't officially received the trademark yet. And suddenly there's a renewed interest and speculation. There's speculation that the training has actually begun and that it's going to be finished by the end of the year, that GPT -5 may be arriving sooner than anyone might've thought. And with the huge leaps in capacity and functionality from GPT -2 to GPT -3, GPT -3 to GPT -4, there's a lot of excitement slash broad rumor monitoring about what GPT -5 might mean and what it might do to what has already been a very fast moving industry. I like James Poulter's comment that it'll be GPT -4 .2673. Nice call there, James. Appreciate you being here. Shout out to Chris McManus, Michael Novak. Yeah, well, there is a little echo, but hopefully not too bad for most of the folks, particularly those who are listening after because this shows up on the VoiceBot podcast most weeks as well. OK, so GPT -5, great stuff. I don't expect any time soon. All the prognosticators said that GPT -4 was going to come earlier than it wound up coming. We got GPT, we got chat GPT instead, and then GPT -4 came later. They don't need to roll these things out more than once a year. People are still absorbing that. There's barely anybody using the large context window GPT -4, GPT -3 .5 turbo, really popular in the chat applications. I don't see this. I think really the thing that would make me believe that they're going to roll out GPT -5 sooner is if they needed a new foundation model in order to fix the GPT -4 latency problems. Way too slow in response times. Yeah, and it's worth saying that when OpenAI announced that they would start phasing out some of the very old models from their API and in favor of the more recent ones, and there was a bit of an outcry against that. So there's reluctance to let go of older models, let alone jump into something new. So they may not need to move quite as quickly as they might have thought in terms of making sure that their customers are happy with the models available to them. Yeah, and another reason why they might not be focused 100 percent on GPT -5 is apparently they're focused on G3PO. But, you know, if you think about it, we had the memo of the Google, the very famous Google internal memo about Google has no moat. And essentially what that was is about an internal Google researcher talking about that Google OpenAI and don't have any technical moat and that the open source was going to take over because it could be cheaper, it's going to be more performant, all these other types of things.

As you can see here in your screen, got Bitcoin price maintaining that critical twenty nine thousand dollars support while ether also correcting but maintaining and holding on to eighteen hundred dollars and checking out coin market cap dot com. The current crypto market cap sits at just one point one five trillion with thirty one billion in volume at the past twenty four hours. Bitcoin dominance back on the rise at forty nine point two percent, with the ether dominance at 19 percent even and checking out the top one hundred crypto gainers for the past twenty four hours. Bone Shiba swap up 13 percent trading at a dollar fifty four, followed by say up eleven percent trading at 19 cents, followed by rocket pool up three percent trading just under twenty seven dollars and checking out next. As you can see here on your screen, we have crypto bubbles. We can see the top gainers for the past week. Bone leading the pack, pun intended, up fifteen percent, but massive losses for the overall altcoin market and checking out the crypto greed and fear index, which you can see here. We're currently rated at fifty two, which is neutral. Yesterday, a fifty three last week, a fifty neutral and last month, a fifty four, which is neutral. And welcome to those just joining us in today's live stream. So much to cover. Next up, we're going to dive into our Bitcoin technical analysis. Check out some of the charts, as well as some interesting facts with some hodlers as well. Bitcoin speculators are leading a period of exhaustion and apathy across the market. In the latest edition of the weekly newsletter, the week on chain analytics firm Glassnode wrote about waning conviction about Bitcoin's short term hodlers. Now, where are my long term hodlers at? Make some noise. And after several months of stagnant Bitcoin price action, frustration amongst market participants has led to predictions of deeper downside to come. The bulls remain unable to break the resistance, while the sellers likewise face multiple support zones in the form of trend lines between the current twenty nine thousand and twenty five thousand dollar levels. And amongst these is the short term hodler cost basis, or better known as the realized price. Short term hodlers are defined by Glassnode as entities hodling coins for one hundred and fifty five days or less and correspond to the more speculative end of the Bitcoin spectrum. investor Now, the short term hodler cost basis has function as support throughout twenty twenty three, but is rapidly rising and currently sits at twenty eight thousand six hundred dollars. Now, by contrast, the long term hodler cost basis reflects the aggregate purchase price of the most stubborn hodlers and thus far lower at twenty thousand three hundred. Quitting Glassnode, the separation between these two cost basis is an indicator that many recent buyers have a relatively equated acquisition price and continuing, researchers describe the market as being potentially top heavy with even a modest Bitcoin price come down now apt to send the short term hodler cohort back into the red. Quoting Glassnode again, on the macro scale, the supply distribution does resemble similar periods during the bear market recoveries of the past. However, a shorter time frame, it could be argued to be slightly top heavy market with many price sensitive investors at risk of falling into unrealized losses. Now, despite this, it appears that speculators have already started to reconsider their market exposure. Let me know if you have or if you're continuing to stack stats as you should. Quoting them here, we note that the supply held by the long term hodlers continues to increase, hitting an all time high of fourteen point six million BTC. So in direct contrast, short term hodler supply declined to multiyear lows at two point five six million BTC the week on chain added. So overall, this suggests that conviction of Bitcoin investors does remain impressively high and few are willing to liquidate their holdings. Are you one of them? Now, the last time the short term hodlers had such little market presence was in October of twenty twenty one, just before the all time high of sixty nine thousand dollars. And it is very interesting as we see the short term hodlers continue to sell and the long term hodlers continue to stack stats as they should. And that's Max Keiser's rant when he spoke in Congress back in January of two thousand and nine, talking about disarming the bankers and their financial weapons, a mass destruction, a very powerful speech given by Max. If you've got to hear this, let me know. I posted and transcribed it on what was formerly known as Twitter, now known as X this morning, quoting Max Keiser. This is an important day as we review the situation with respect to disarming bankers. After the first Great Depression, Congress passed the Glass -Steagall Act. The purpose of the resolution was to disarm bankers as well as brokers. Now, never again would they be allowed to destroy the global financial system. I'm here to warn you that they have, in fact, rearm themselves with a deadly toxic debt instrument known as a derivative. I asked for this session today to support the core assessment made by FAME investor Warren Buffett. He said derivatives are financial weapons of mass destruction and that have apparently been devised by madmen. These instruments pose a mega catastrophic risk. Ladies and gentlemen, don't wait for the mushroom cloud of bad debts to explode over our financial system. Let's disarm the bankers before it's too late. Very powerful words coming from Max Keiser. And again, this is circa January of two thousand and nine, right around the time of the Bitcoin Genesis block, which was released after the 2008 financial crisis. And lo and behold, you can consider him a prophet because everything he was talking about is exactly what's been going on. Financial terrorism as it continues as the central bankers of the world continue to print money until the wheels fall off. Massive shout out to Max Keiser and Stacey Herbert. As you know, I'm huge fans of them both via the Kaiser report as they were the first one to cover Bitcoin with international coverage back when it was trading between a dollar to ten dollars. This is going all the way back in 2011, so literally was at 14 or 13 years ago. So much respect to the high priest of Bitcoin. And with that being shared, fam, now let's discuss our next story of the day. Now that we covered Max versus the banksters and that is El Salvador and their success with their bonds, which have been released as returns soar to 70 percent thus far this year. Check it out. El Salvador, which adopted Bitcoin as the legal tender back in 2021, has seen its dollar bound outperform the majority of the emerging markets with a 70 percent return thus far this year. The massive rally of the bond has now drawn interest from several institutional giants, which include JPMorgan Chase. Take that tapeworm Jamie Dimon, as well as Eaton Vance and PGIM Fix, promoting President Najib Okele to say, I told you so. Now, apart from the institutional giants, the likes of Lord and EBIT and also Neuberger German or I'm sorry, Berman Group LLC and UBS Group AG have also added debt security since April, according to Bloomberg. And also, Paolo, the chief technology officer of Bitfinex, told Cointelegraph that the performance of El Salvador bonds is a clear signal that the investors are supportive of the financial policies of the El Salvadoran government and demonstrates the renewed interest in investing in the El Salvador story while adding the following as the first company to receive a digital asset license, we are seeing significant interest in digital asset issuance and renewable energy investments, which the country has in abundance and is being used for Bitcoin mining and to provide more energy for the country's electrical grid. Now, the growing demand of El Salvador's debt security in 2023 is a quite contrast to its performance a couple of years ago when it first adopted Bitcoin as the legal tender. That's right. They've come a long way. The Bitcoin adoption created uncertainty amongst investors who bet against the country's bonds with several financial agencies, casting a shadow of doubt on the country's financial future. In February of 2022, the American Credit Agency agency Fitch lowered the country's long term issuer default rating from a B minus to CCC, inciting policy uncertainty in the Bitcoin adoption, along with an eight hundred million dollar debt payment due for January of twenty twenty three. Now, keep in mind, El Salvador did pay that eight hundred million dollar debt in full within the due maturing time to start off the year, raising confidence in the country's bonds yet again. And the president, Bukele, at the time noted that they had proven every finance pundit wrong, who doubted whether they would be able to pay their debts in a time after Bitcoin adoption, quoting Bukele here. He actually shared this in January of twenty twenty three in the past year. Almost every legacy international news outlet said that because of our Bitcoin bet, El Salvador was going to default on its debt by January of twenty twenty three, since we had an eight hundred million dollar bond maturing today, literally hundreds of articles. Never forget that. Now, the rise in confidence of investors is visible from the bonds performance throughout the year. And during the same time, El Salvador also passed a landmark crypto bill paving the way for the infamous Bitcoin backed volcano bonds. Let's freaking go. Now, El Salvador and its president have been at the receiving end of criticism every single day since they first adopted Bitcoin in September of twenty twenty one as legal tender, along with the United States dollar financial pundits predicted that the Bitcoin adoption will further strain El Salvador's financial conditions. However, to the contrary, within two years, the debt security of the state has become a hot cake amongst institutional giants, the same that once advised against buying it. So I'll say it for Bukele. I told you so. So there you have it. Let's go El Salvador mass adoption. Bring it. In which country do you think will likely be next to adopt Bitcoin as a legal tender and follow in the footsteps of Bukele and El Salvador? Now, let's discuss a forty thousand dollar Bitcoin price prediction, as well as a timeline, which I'm going to be sharing with you right here. If you think Bitcoin is likely to hit this forty thousand target, let me know. Now, while he followed analyst Pizzino is bullish on Bitcoin as the flagship crypto asset trades in a narrow range for the past few days or we could say for the past few weeks in a new video, he tells his three hundred thousand YouTube subs the Bitcoin can climb by over 40 percent from the current level between now and September of twenty twenty four. Considering September is only two weeks away, that would be pretty enticing winning it. The crypto analyst says that his upside target of forty two thousand is the range midpoint or the 50 percent level between the Bitcoin all time high of sixty nine thousand and Bitcoin's twenty twenty two low of around fifteen five. Quitting him here, it is possible that we see a test of forty two thousand happen within the period between now and September of twenty twenty four. So in basically twelve, thirteen months, a test of the 50 percent level of forty two thousand two hundred and then a retreat. Do you think we're likely to rise on up to that forty thousand mark? And after appreciating to over forty thousand Bitcoin could thereafter correct either mildly or substantially, according to the analyst quoting him again, it could be a small retreat like back here, June to August of twenty sixteen, where it tested seven hundred and then came back to five hundred. In fact, he even claims that Bitcoin can now go to a million dollars. So let's break this down and then we'll dive into our feature story of the day with the BlackRock ETF, which can send the Bitcoin price parabolic over six hundred percent, surpassing a whopping price target of one hundred and eighty thousand dollars. But first, Robert Kiyosaki, he stands behind his call that the Bitcoin price will put a new all time high and run all the way up to one hundred thousand. And that was the nice way of putting it. Reading his tweet here, Bitcoin to one hundred thousand dollars, saying for years gold and silver is God's money. Bitcoin is the people's money preach bad news if the stocks and bond market crash gold and silver to skyrocket the worst news if the economy crashes Bitcoin to a million dollars. Now, that doesn't sound like so such bad news to me. That would be extremely brilliant news for the Bitcoin price to go to a million. But I understand an economy crash is not good. But he continues gold to seventy five thousand and silver to sixty thousand. I do not see those precious metals rising like that, especially considering they're controlled by the central bankers and the cartels have been controlling precious metal markets for a very long time. But nonetheless, I digress. He continues, savers of fake U .S. dollars are effed. Debt is too high. Mom, pops and kids are in trouble. And I hope I am wrong, but please take care. I mean, very bold words coming from Kiyosaki. Also, in an interview he did with Stansberry Research's Daniela Cambone, he warned up the idea of Bitcoin as he has lost all trust in institutions running the country, quitting him here. I like Bitcoin because we have an enemy in common breach. It's called the federal government breach, the Treasury and the Fed and Wall Street breach. I don't trust them. If you trust them, save dollars and get yourself a nice bond. I do not trust those guys. How many can relate with Rich Dad earlier in the year? Kiyosaki also predicted Bitcoin would eventually skyrocket to one hundred thousand per coin, highlighting that the king crypto does not need the intervention of the government to sustain its value. And with that being shared, now let's dive into our featured story of the day. That's everything surrounding the BlackRock ETF, a spot Bitcoin ETF being approved in the United States. Tom Lee was just recently interviewed and says he believes it will automatically send the Bitcoin price somewhere between one hundred and fifty and one hundred and eighty thousand dollars. So let's break this down, shall we? And here this is on this interview. I also already transcribed it for your benefit here. And I'm going to start reading so we don't have to play that sound clip because it's copyrighted. Anyways, he's asked, I always like hearing your price targets. Because you are always so fearless. When are you or where are you on Bitcoin by the end of next year? Let's say. And he responded, well, it's a spot Bitcoin gets approved, referring to the spot Bitcoin ETF. I think the demand will be greater than the daily supply of Bitcoin. So the clearing price, which is done by Sean Farrell, who is our crypto digital strategist, is over one hundred and fifty thousand dollars. In fact, it could even be one hundred and eighty thousand per Bitcoin. And then when asked, that's only if the spot ETF gets approved. Tom Lee responded, yes, a spot US because a spot Bitcoin ETF is approved already outside the US, which is a fact. And then asked, but if it's not approved, then are we just lingering at around twenty nine thousand in which he responded? There is still upside cast because of the halving next year. So you'll have a drop in supply again. And so the clearing price has to increase, but it won't be six figures. So he's ultimately saying the approval of the spot Bitcoin ETF, regardless if it's BlackRock or any of the others, such as Fidelity or ARK Invest, 21 shares, etc., will absolutely send the Bitcoin price to a minimal of one hundred and fifty thousand. And that target could even be as high as one hundred and eighty thousand. But he's also saying in the same token, if Gary Gensler and the SEC does not approve it by the time of the halving, do not expect a six figure Bitcoin price, but expect the price to go up because of the drop in supply as well as the gain and demand. I think the analyst makes a very great point. Now, he was also interviewed a few weeks ago and he discussed this price action occurring within nine months. So I wanted to give you that time frame because the Bitcoin ETF is scheduled to be released sometime. Not the ETF, but the halving is scheduled to be in April of twenty twenty four. So anyways, here's what he had to share in this interview. Current Bitcoin market is in balance with twenty five million in daily block rewards and twenty five million in daily demand, incremental ETF demand. Sean Farrell, their analyst, believes that twenty five billion dollars of demand is possible within the first year. So this is how they come to these numbers. This is one hundred million dollars in daily demand. This would bring the daily demand to one hundred and twenty five million while the daily supply is only twenty five million. So the implied equilibrium price would need to rise so that the daily supply matches the daily demand. Equilibrium analysis suggests that a clearing price is one hundred and forty to one hundred and eighty thousand per Bitcoin before the April twenty twenty four halving. Now, if you'd like to see that come to fruition, make some noise in the live chat. Now he continues. Generally, this idea of higher equilibrium price is consistent. Sean Farrell estimates that the flow multiplier for Bitcoin is four to five X and on the odds of a spot Bitcoin ETF finally getting approved in the United States after numerous rejections of the past year. Here's what we had to share. Bitcoin ETF could finally get approved. Sean Farrell sees the BlackRock effect, making it this far more likely today. Now, BlackRock, we all know, is the world's largest asset manager, and they say they have roughly 10 trillion or more in assets under management. So there you have it. "In the same tone as that trailer Interesting i've never felt that way about a trillion. Did you watch the trailer for hustler's because that trailer was so much better than the movie. Where i think the trailer is so much better than the movie and their trailers like i think the art of cutting trailer is definitely an art and it's become very formulaic especially for things like marvel movies and stuff but yeah in terms of the art of self defense. I would love to know who edited that trailer because it was it was very well done and it was a home edge to the the tone of the movie whereas a lot of other trailers seem like they're giving too much away or they're just cut in a way but when i appreciate i trailers that really hook you in and get you into the movie and hustlers was one of them where i think it was cut to j lo's performance on the Where she was like dancing on stage and it was just very well cut to her. Dance moves And also that dance was just the best part of the movie and the rest of it was just like. Yeah she's just Perform i know and that was cut really well But after you watch ourselves events.
