Warner Brothers' 'Bean Counters' Scrap Batgirl

"Warner Brothers scrapped batgirl and the Scooby-Doo movie Scoob!. Holiday haunt. Which, I don't know who the hell's gonna see that movie outside of your young kids, but this cancellation by Warner Brothers, these were made for HBO Max streaming movies and they were both scrapped. And that came as a shock to the town. Then there are several schools of thought here, but this move announced to a big rejection of WarnerMedia's strategy to make original $70 million live action and animated films directly for HBO Max. So the makers of batgirl, live action batgirl, and the animated Scoob!, they found out the other day that those films were being stopped in their tracks, the timing is really weird and awkward for batgirl that directors ideal are being Bilal fala, both in Morocco for one of their weddings. How's that for a wedding gift? Your movie's not gonna be aired with scrapping, it's done. Forget all the work that you did the last year and a half. And they are expected to return to the cutting room and continue to work on this film, but no, so them Leslie grace the star, J. K. Simmons, Brandon Fraser, and Michael Keaton as Batman, all that work down the tubes. They got paid, but still. Initially, there were cries that the scrapping of batgirl was bad optics because the title role is played by a Latina. Doesn't look that when you scrap a movie with a Latina in the lead. But there were reasons for the move and in both cases the filmmakers would tell that it came down to a purchasing accounting maneuver available to Warner Brothers discovery because the company had changed hands and also changed strategies from the previous regime. This always happens. It's a pain in the ass. I hate when creativity is killed off by the bean counters upstairs.

"That led into my fascination with Paul Newman. I've always had a theory. The guy married Joanne Woodward who I think is plain Jane. This guy was the most beautiful man in Hollywood history, perhaps. He married plain Jane, and he was with us since they were studying acting in the city, like very young. Doesn't make any sense to me. And then the guy goes on to teach Tom Cruise how to drive race cars and I'm like, oh, this seems like a little bit of a may December romance to me. Then he makes salad dressing in popcorn. Come on. Macho men don't think of salad dressing recipes and the wrong with salad and popcorn. I just don't think most men think about their face on those products, but God bless you made millions and he gave it away. Good, good, good man. So I started looking into Paul Newman, and I always go to these gay sites because the gays know the gays know. And there's a bunch of stuff on this site. I gave to the patrons, and I'm going to talk about Paul Newman possibly being gay next week. I think it's a crazy story. I think people will be interested. But this is what I read on this gay site. During the making of cat on a hot tin roof, whole Newman, if you've seen the movie plays a repressed homosexual by the name of brick. James Dean was supposed to be lined up for that role, but he died in a car crash before production began, so it went to Newman. Now, in the film version, the direct homosexual references were taken out from the Tennessee Williams script in order to satisfy the current production codes, if you will. So the film script kind of dances around the reasons why brick and cat played by the gorgeous Elizabeth Taylor hadn't slept together in years. But the mention of the suicide of bricks close football chum skipper was kept in. Close football chump. That's the way things were mentioned back in the day if you want to talk about gay. He's my football chum. You know, oh, really? At one point, Paul Newman told Tennessee Williams. The role of brick is perfect for me. All my life I've been split into two different directions. One side of me wants to live life with my gay football buddy skipper. The other side is tempted to fuck the living shit at a Maggie the cat and be their heterosexual stud most of my fans want me to be. Um.

Is Justin Simmons the Best Safety in the NFL?

"Number one, story right now at Denver fan dot com, you're looking at Justin Simmons voted league's best safety while Peterson wrote about that if you want to check that out on the website and fan dot com. It is Justin Simmons the best safety in the NFL or was he just voted the best safety in the NFL? You know, it's a great question. He's always, I think stoke really summed it up well when he said any given Sunday he can be the best safety in the NFL, but there are some guys, you know, there are some really good safeties in the NFL bayard comes to mind with the Tennessee Titans. If it's Patrick, make it Fitzpatrick is a really good place. There's a Berlin James Derwin James is an absolute that guy is a difference making. He's a beast. But again, he plays differently. He's down in the box, 90% of the time, or 80% of the time. So it's just the kind of it just depends. He's a different cat,

"Are at the packers at 28. We had some fun with the last one. You got to take a receiver with one of these different picks. You have to have to. And I don't want to speak for you, but yeah, trailer burkes. I mean, you know, we've been talking about him being the constant and outside zone receiver. I think you take him here. Let's not fart around. Let's not that anyone's goal, I guess, during draft time is to fart around, but the packers should stop farting around and just take trailer bursts. Put that on a T-shirt. Quit farting around. Was that anybody ever say that to you? Was that a thing when you were growing? I think our football coach is used to say that a lot. Quit farting around, you know? Yeah, I don't remember hearing it very often. I mean, I've heard the phrase, I'm familiar with the phrase, but I don't know if anyone's really said it to me at any point. I maybe I just don't fart around. Yeah, I was gonna say, you might just not fart around. You know, I might have just been a real fart around kind of guy. But trailing Burke's, I mean, goodness gracious. Just get him in there, you know? Let Erin Rogers look a safety off and then bang him with like a quick slant and let him run like 60 yards into the end zone. Let's get this thing done. I mean, just looking at this. Sammy Watkins, Allen lazard, Randall Cobb, hand selected Randall Cobb for Aaron Rodgers. All those young guys are gone, except for Amari Rogers who did it in the third round last year. The last I saw of Mari Rogers and possibly I missed something late in the year was he ran a little round to the flat incorrectly in that Thursday night went over the Cardinals and I think that was like it. He was just crossed off the list. I'm sure they'll give it another try this year, but Aaron Rodgers is just like, nope, never again. Apparently playing a playing receiver for Aaron Rodgers is like being a drummer and whiplash. You miss you miss a symbol hit and then what's the guy's name J. K. Simmons just throws a drumhead at you and tries to have you murdered. So. We are at pick 29. We're actually back to back with the chiefs now. So we don't even really have to introduce 30 here. That's kind of neat. Maybe they can just announce both at the same time. So 29 and 30 have them come out holding hands. Yep. Would you ever, if you were the chief, so say you're 29, and then you just decide not to pick, right? And then the next team can run ahead and that's just you. So you could just do whatever the hell you want. That's pretty awesome, you know? Yeah, buy whatever the hell you want. You can do specifically that. Endless options. You could, what is it? Is it 15 minutes or is it ten? Am I on my mind? Oh boy, that's a really good question. I honestly can't remember. I think they cut it down to ten when they went to Thursday night. I could be wrong though..

And if they go on this game, all cocky, he's going to be ready the same thing in. And there's other games that almost lost. Spider-Man: No Way Home Review

"Eventually. What else do we have to see, sunny? Well, so the big movie out this weekend, and the big movie of the year really is Spider-Man: No Way Home. I mean, this movie is going to be an enormous enormous hit. I thought yesterday with a packed house at the Alamo drafthouse near me, audience loved it. Spider-Man, no way home, of course, our Spider-Man, it's got Tom Holland as Spider-Man. And if folks remember the end of the last movie, his identity had been revealed to the world by J Jonah Jameson who was playing a kind of Alex Jones like figure kind of conspiracy theorist, doing a very funny, very funny turn by J. K. Simmons. But this movie picks up right where that one left off. So everybody knows that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, Spider-Man and Peter Parker. He's got to try and figure out a way to get the world to forget about him and he turns to Doctor Strange, who has played by Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Cumberbatch, cashless spell that tries to reverse the race the knowledge that Peter Parker is Spider-Man from. Yeah, Doctor Strange should be smarter than this. You would think. He was warned not to cast the spell by his assistant slash sorcerer, the new sorcerer supreme Benedict Wong. And he does it anyway. He cast the spell in it. It messes up the very fabric of reality, villains from previous iterations of Spider-Man movies start pouring into Tom Holland's Spider-Man's universe, the green goblin, doctor octopus, the lizard electro. Hello, Peter. That's a great trailer, by the way. Hello. It's a really good trailer. I'm not giving away anything that's not in the trailer. I'm careful not to either. These are no spoilers here, really. And Peter's got to get Peter's got to get them back to their universe. That's all I'll say about that about a lot.

Houston Rockets, John Wall Working to Find Trade Deal

"Keith, let's start things off with John wall, a Houston rocket for now. But will not be a Houston rocket into the future. It sounds like he is going to be treatable. The rockets are hoping. They're hoping anyway. Let's get into that. What's going to happen here? The rockets, John wall working together to try to find a trade and he will not play any more games for Houston. Yeah, so this is that working together part is where it's very different from the 76ers and Ben Simmons who are not exactly working together. They're kind of working apart right now. So it sounds like by all accounts John wall has been very good in his time in Houston. He's been somebody that the younger players have really come to rely on for leadership. He's been a great leader for them. In the rockets are looking at insane. Look, we have a ton of guards that we want to play young guards to Kevin Porter junior, jaylen green, Josh Christopher, just adding in the last couple of years. Kyrie Thomas, who we picked up on a late season edition last year and he played quite well for them. So they want to play those guys. They don't necessarily want to play John wall, nor do they want to have John wall get hurt in kind of completely ruined maybe whatever little tiny modicum of trade value he may have left. There's no other way to slice this. It's 91.6 million. That he is owed. It's bad money. There's John wall would probably say at the same thing. Good for John wall for getting him what he did. And this is why you should never criticize a pointer for taking a max contract when it's offered to him. Team, other story we can have there. But at the time this contract was offered, wasn't necessarily as a bad contract. And either he's one of the first class of supermax guys to get it. So yeah, so what they're going to do is they're going to have them come to camp. He sounds like he's going to be there to kind of almost be like a glorified assistant coach. While they continue to try to work on

There's never a chance of anything. But i would highly doubt it One of the messages. That ben has sent back towards philly. Is that. It's not his job to fix his trade value. It's his job to correct. This trade value raises trade value. That is not something that is on the menu for him and so with that out there. I don't think he's interested in coming in and trying to change the situation and one thing that i think is interesting is that his contract is structured in a way that he's going to get half of his money by october first sixteen and a half million of thirty three million come before he has to worry about getting find a single dime for a forty one of his game. So he's going to have a war chest that he can. Just sit this out. Now i agree the cavaliers and other teams that are really interested in trading for a guy with four years. Left on their contract would be interested. That's also why. You've heard a mike minnesota and even potentially a team like san antonio these are organizations that typically don't do well in free agency and so the idea of getting a star player under four year contract is very attractive but dens value is so low right now and the expectations of daryl morey on a trailer so high we just are not neutral zone for any If any team at this

"You've got ninety eight percent by the critics and then eighty six percent, which I guess can kind of make sense because social commentary, especially between Black Americans and white Americans is a thing right but the audience school was around seventy thousand, so it's kind of sitting in the same sorta fat. Which? I didn't think it should be, but you know. At least it's not catastrophically. Haya than get out, but continue and I could see why people would see through this and think wow I've just watched. Something different that's. One Mosque yet actually won three Oscars. You Go. If feels surprise, you are in Katie's company best performance in a supporting role J. K. Simmons Yes, this movie has won three Oscars one of which was a supporting actor offer J. K. "I love that. They gave us four additives that paint any sort of picture that could be anything, and I would love personally if this was he's done space interstellar. He's done war with Dunkirk. He's done psychological thriller with inception. I would love a little more streamlined action. Movie out of Chris. Title. And I love his introspective very ponderous slow-burn all of those things make crystal and what he is. But there's a reason the dark Knight worked. So well is it's his most linear film and as much as I want him to play with interstellar play inception. I'd love to be returned to linear filmmaking. I'd like to see a straight on smart, but action film out of him to just mix it up like I wanna see a nineties action movie from Chris that would be something. So different that intrigues may. And it would actually the form at I think in a different way than his past movies have Roco. What do you think Nolan has to do with this movie? You know, I had this weird feelings you asking us before we started like what we want to do or want to see from Nolan and for me, wouldn't it be interesting? If you've found a way to do a time jump type movie that's still an action adventure type movie, maybe Sifi vibe to it with Denzel and John David where it's like seeing future and past versions of themselves, and what that means in where the pads they are and how that decisions made here effect. What's going on later? And then how it goes back and forth through this areas of time, and what he's trying to tell us because an interstellar which I thought was almost ambitious film. What he's talking about his love. Let's take the next level of that. In what you're talking about is the existence what your existence weird show. All of this movie is going to be smart. So I just would like to see something with John David and Denzel maybe in some sort of kind of time existing separate times. But affecting each other in that way, I would love to see that like a tree of life me. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of July blooper with J K Simmons TV series thrown in for fun with alternate worlds at the same conspiracy, or whatever it was called. I forget what it was called incredible show that I watched I can't remember the name of it. I saw it last year. But yeah, something of dual world's existing at the same time in different time. Periods all shot. Nymex we've had many multiple chunks of scenes in movies. I'd love it stayed the frame rate. I got love to have a full future, Sean AmEx. I think we're there. I think is there. I think if anyone's gonna let anyone do it. It's no one hitting a free blank. Check movies always make money. I think they should shoot a full future. And max, I think it should be a more linear action film, only because I know they'll be an inherent intelligence, but I'd like to see something a little less ponders the. Variety article labels, a massive innovative action blockbuster, which will again be shown in I'm act. So who knows if the entire thing is going to be shot. Nymex, but even though the studio has has refuted, some of the descriptors, I still have them in my mind. So when I'm playing this little game here, and I'm trying to formulate an idea, I actually side with what you suggested, I really wouldn't mind if he just sticks to a straightforward linear storytelling format, but I don't think that's what's going to happen. Because the second they use the word word, innovative, my mind, immediately goes back to both inception and interstellar and start thinking about about dreams and dimension. And then even though they have already taken away the north by northwest comparison, I'm immediately going with with someone who's misidentified, and then I'm throwing in the romance thing. And then I start to put in what you are suggesting it's just like, I don't know like maybe this idea of mistaken identity with with a romance twist that could transcend. Send different different dimensions. Especially because I mean, not that this has anything to do with Spiderman into the spider burst..

"All right, Christy. You saw this one. Karen? Yikes. Did I see it? So this is going to end up being probably on my list of the worst films of the year the end of the year, which is shocking given the level of talent who is on display here. So J K Simmons stars in it. His wife. Michelle Schumacher wrote and directed it. And he does not say a single word. He is an alcoholic. He is disabled. He is destitute. He is just wandering in a daze through this dark, quiet home. Karen was his ex wife. And so the news that she has died. Prompts him to go back through his mind and remember various periods. So Sebastian STAN plays him as a younger, man. And then a little boy named Ian Armitage. Who's probably the best actor in this whole thing. Plays him as a little boy at age sex and that phone call is from me anymore. His mom is. So every few minutes, he'll he'll walk around. He'll drink some vodka. He'll thing in his house, and it will trigger a memory and he's going back through time. Trying to remember trying to forget trying to forgive himself for the sins of the past. And it is so ponderous and not a single moment. Resonates emotionally, Jackie Simmons is always a fascinating screen presence. I don't know why you would ever want him to not open his mouth and speak part of the allure J K Simmons is that fantastic. Rich voice of his this movie is terrible at not a single moment. Rang true for me. It is blissfully only seventy minutes long. Yet seventy minutes as they say, you can't get back. It's just painful. No. And then and then there's like a a marvel movie type seen in the middle of the credits. The kinda yank the rug out from underneath you. And like goes back and rewind the pass and changes. And you almost heard that pause like the environment in their Bill creates a an environment where you are challenged on a daily basis, but it made me think of the movie whiplash J K Simmons where he plays the incredibly demanding band. Conductor pushing guys their limit, and this idea that the only way in some people's mind to get people to supersede what they believe they're capable of is by push. Shing them harder than anyone would want on their own. It's hard to negotiate with stugatz because he's always leaving the room to go eat his sandwich. And then he comes back and during the show, all I see on the screen is golf clubs and others and things that he's thinking of buying you can't keep his attention in in any way whatsoever. But our New South beach session for this week is up again, it is Joe buck. He was strong. Cody was just mentioning he's like, why do people dislike Joe buck, and we were talking about there's there's an air of smugness that people don't like, but mostly it's because many people think that he's rooting against their team, which he as he's never doing. It's the same reason they hate Huby Brown. It's almost impossible to hate. QB? Brown is analysis is so good. His passion is so good. But go ahead and see what happens. Very often in fandom. It's not fan. It's the dumb. That's the important word. When listening to announcers who use we or I mean, you'll be Brown is not rooting for anybody. UB Brown has been saying we while calling games forever. But I remember when the Broncos came down here. Wade Bosch that team the first super team really in the NBA, and he'd fans who just started paying attention to the heat and watching all these games were furious with UB Brown for using the term. We was just ignorant potshot with just started to pay attention to the Miami Heat because he'll be Brown's hated the Miami Heat for several years before that. That's right. So Joe buck is the latest south beach session. But Mike Ryan says that we've got me being awkward in the last south beach session with J K Simmons. What do we need to set this up because we're all here for me being terrible at well. You J K Simmons were oddly chummy, you struck up a good relationship. And I guess you started getting comfortable and towards the end of the interview towards your goodbye. You got socially awkward you allowed him in. And you reveal your true awkward self. Yeah. Everything in Las Vegas haunting gigantic statues. The fight scene with the holographic Elvis onstage. A so many spectacular visuals. And ideas, brother the holographic like a lovemaking scene. You know that kind of like, it's just. Just incredibly adept. How the scifi Di is brought to life Peter go ahead. I know there's this quite cliche that you could take any frame from a movie in hanging on your wall. I really believe for this film. That is true. Like every frame of this movie is so beautiful. Agreed agreed. All right. Well, let's vineyards number three played runner twenty forty nine. All right. So my number three. So I had to like I didn't want all of my movies to be big budget movies. You know what I mean? Because I was thinking, okay. What represents my tastes over the last decade? And I had to choose ahead to put something on the list that was like a smaller. Indie film. Right. That's like, oh, this represents like the indie film that could you know, like this represents like. Something that was made for very little money ver-very scrappy, but that was extremely impactful and for me that is the day Michel movie whiplash. Which is movie of the year of last decade or so that's from twenty fourteen. Here's what's amazing about whiplash. Number one, J K. Simmons puts in the performance of his career has never been topped in likely. Never will be of an extremely demanding music teacher. And this movie captures the inherent conflict of what that character is some character. Who is so demanding right that he he's basically psychologically abusing those people, but he's able to get results. Right. And that there is some. Fascination and very frequently unfortunate fascination that society has with people who are assholes. But who are nonetheless extremely skilled and we've seen this again. And again, and many of those people are being taken down these days, which is often a good thing. But yeah, I mean that the only give away what happens at the end of the movie, but he has this on a monologue towards the end of the film where talks about like why he does what he does. And it just felt like such a perfect summation of the inherent conflict of that character. I it's an extremely memorable character. But normally that this movie brings to life kind of the joy of making music, right? That even though it's incredibly difficult and music is is in many ways like disgusting. Like, there's like some live everywhere, and there's calluses and dead skin all over the place and blood, you know, depending on like how how hard you're hitting on those drums. Physically it can be like a fairly gross activity, but it is also like a extremely joyful and life-giving activity and putting all those things aside. It has one of the most spectacular movie endings that I've ever seen. Right. Love that ending that sequence sequences. So the idea that this is I think Damian cells second film, I think he made it probably when he was like twenty one years old. He was but he was he was mid twenties when he made it and it's just incredible achievement. So for those reasons, I think, we bless his a great film. It's my favorite of his movies to his day.
