"The pastry after he was pulled out of the car then he was taste the gin after he was pulled out sure I could see he was again he was zip tied and he was then escorted to to the CNN center and in an interview with Mr young he also are revealed to us that the officer who escorted him to the C. N. N. center are stored in a position to his rear and punched him more than ten times in the back as he was being escorted from the CNN center are choose the location where he was then taken to the to Grady hospital if you go to the next so he waited at the center for about two and a half hours he was taken to Grady hospital and I believe he's remained at Grady until about seven of the next morning he was then taken to the city of Atlanta detention center sometime around ten AM he was then brought to municipal court and he was then informed by the judge for the first time that he was being charged with of stop attempting to elude these officers and Mister Jones in his statement indicated that he was somewhat amazed he thought that maybe they had gotten him mixed up with somebody else but shortly after that he was given a signature bond and shortly after the signature bond his charges were were dismissed I believe the part instruction about it mayor Keisha bottoms and mayor bottoms incidents issued an apology to Mr young miss pilgrim and their families so also this case saw as we review the evidence we were able to note some of the important considerations and one of those considerations that kind of gives you a flavor of what was going on in this event we received this statement from one of the officers who said that he was standing at the rear of the vehicle being driven by Mister Jones and he saw that the car was placed in reverse and the vehicle tried to come back and hit him and one of the other officers had to pull him out of the way so that it would save his life and some of you've got the chance to watch video we're going to show it again today and as you can see why Mr young was in the car he spent most of his trying trying to repeal the tasers that'd been shot into his body and you could not see an instance where a tip was made to run over an officer from the rear one of the other things that we noted is while the incident took place there was no mention of a firearm at all there was no mention of a firearm but after the incident when the offices were walking away and returning to the original stations on the tape you can hear one of the offices say they pulled a gun on us and when you examine the Tate there is no indication that that any mention was made of a firearm and in fact after the incident no firearm was ever located all right on the persons of the two parties and no firearm was ever located in the vehicle so how do we go about making the charging decision our first of all I want to tell you that we've had outstanding cooperation from the Atlanta police department the body cam videos that we were able to review the police reports are were sent to us by the Atlanta police department and we have been in constant communication with them so we have an opportunity to interview both of the victims and we we just know that some of our findings about the victims bay will bowl for extremely innocent in fact my investigators concluded that they were so incident almost to the point of being naive they they were factual are extremely factual in their descriptions of what happened and their stories cooperated with each other we also and I think we just noticed that you know we in my experience is DA talking to victims we noticed that these were really two of the nicest people that we never got the chance to meet in the DA's office so we reviewed seven different body Kim body worn cameras and we also looked at one media clip are we review the physical evidence the car the bodily injuries to the victims which were consistent with what they have described and we also reviewed statements are made these were criminal I made these were criminal statements are made by the police officers and so we were then at the point that we could make a charging decision so based upon our consideration of the facts we are having this morning presented to one of our Superior Court judges are six arrest warrants for these six officers these are all eleven officers and I'm sure you recognize that two of these offices have already been terminated by the Atlanta police department and what we've done is suggesting a shorthand method described the charges against those officers are learning who who's charged with aggravated assault of messiah young for the use of the taser the aggravated assault of to nioh pilgrim also for the use of the taser and also a simple battery for pulling missed feel grown out of the car onto the page three of the second officer is Willie sols and charged with aggravated assault of ms pilgrim and this is for pointing a taser at Mrs R. pilgrim and is maybe if you all know on the Georgia ball a taser is considered as a deadly weapon under Georgia law and also criminal damage to property of fog the damage in the striking of the window of Mrs or miss pilgrims car the third officer officer ivory Streeter he was one of the officers that was terminated by chief shields and mayor bottoms are charged with aggravated assault for the use of the taser with respect to ms pilgrim and also he is charged with a misdemeanor for pointing a gun or a handgun at messiah you the other three officers of mark garner is R. Gardner is one of the officers who was dismissed by the city and the arrest warrants that too we have asked the court the issue gets him charges him with aggravated assault of miss pilgrim for the use of the taser the fifth officer it is Armand Jones who is charged with aggravated battery of messiah young and that is for the forcible removal of him and placing him on the street in the second charge against him is for pointing a gun at messiah you in this suburb the six officer is our role and applauds and he is charged with criminal damage to property well he was the officer who broke the window the driver's side window of the vehicle are driven by a missile you and so those are the charges that we have asked the court to sign a warrant for if you go to next slide you know some people might AS well is this the first time that you guys have ever done this this is not the first time that our office is there is there an officer is George prior to indictment on we had two previous cases of the one involving an Atlanta office or James burns who was charged with a homicide and Mr burns the incident took place on the twenty second of June of twenty sixteen and in that case we received a video that accurately depicts it what happened at the time of the crime so the incident happened on the twenty second of June and twenty five days later we asked that he be arrested R. he was indicted on the nice skews me the fifth of September of twenty eighteen so he was arrested as in this case prior to indictment we had a second case involving an east point officer of the defendant's name was I think James good there and he was charged with an attempted rape our office through the media found out of bed we found out on the fifth of August of twenty eighteen that he had committed this crime of on the thirty first of August we ask that Mr good and be arrested Bob and he was not indicted until the twenty second of November of twenty nineteen so this is not the first time we have asked that an arrest warrant be issued prior to the time of the indictment eleven forty six and ninety five point five W. SP you're listening to live coverage from downtown Atlanta this is the district attorney Paul Howard announcing criminal charges in serious criminal charges aggravated assault on a couple these cases against six Atlanta police officers who were involved in that hazing incident involving two college students during the unrest over the weekend DA Paul Howard this is live now also these are police officers and we felt that a signature bond because of those two circumstances would be appropriate the offices will we've asked them to turn themselves in by the end of the day on Friday and so that they can be processed through the Fulton County jail well what we wanted to do now I I'm just assume but I've been in my staff is indicated to me that some of you have not seen that the the videos that we've been referring to so we got to play just one of the videos that gives you an opportunity to see many of the things that we have described and.
