Senate Holds Confirmation Hearing For Trump's New Pick For Ambassador To Ukraine
"Update now on two important diplomatic vacancies. One is the post of U. S ambassador to the Ukraine. The last woman who held that Senate confirmed job was a central figure in President Trump's impeachment. And now the president's pick for the job is facing some lingering question in his own confirmation hearing. NPR's Michelle Kelemen reports President Trump's ouster of the ambassador to Ukraine featured prominently in his impeachment trial. Marie Ivanovich face to smear campaign by Trump's private lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who had been pressing Ukraine to get dirt on Vice President Joe Biden. Senator Bob Menendez, the ranking Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, says that's still happening. Giuliani Esteban, Savory Ukrainian characters have not let up their efforts to use Ukraine to interfere in U. S politics. Others in the Senate seem intent on amplifying their efforts. Menendez wants the new nominee, retired Lieutenant general Keith Dayton, to avoid playing into this and avoid any meetings with Giuliani. Senator I'm not going to commit to that, because I believe that as an ambassador, I would have the obligation to meet with any U S citizen and hear them out. It was a home. Dayton has been a defense attache in Moscow, a security advisor for the U. S on the Israeli Palestinian conflict, and, in recent years has run the George Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Germany. He's well versed on Ukraine, but his answers frustrated both Menendez and another Democrat Chris Murphy. So at the end of the hearing, he did offer this reassurance. Ify is the U. S ambassador and key Have any indication that there is any kind of election interference going on using Ukraine as a azalea ever to do that? I would, of course, report that directly to this committee. I think you have a right to know that I think I have an obligation to report that to Dayton says his priorities in the country, if confirmed, would be to help Ukraine fight corruption and beef up Ukraine's Navy and Air force. Next door in Belarus. The U. S is reviving diplomatic relations in part because of Russia's aggression. In Ukraine. Career diplomat Julie Fisher has been tapped to run the U. S embassy in Minsk. Our relationship with Belarus languish for more than a decade. But after Russia's illegal seizure and occupation of Crimea, and it's manufactured war in Ukraine stone best region, we began to see signs of interest from the Belarussian sign. Belarus recently bought US crude oil to decrease its dependence on Russia and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Minsk earlier this year. But the's warming ties will be tested by an election this Sunday, and Fisher face questions about that the first component to ensuring that we can continue to grow this relationship. Not see steps backward in the conduct of this presidential election. The long time ruler Alexander Lukashenko is facing a united opposition in the run up to this election, and his regime has been cracking down. There will be no international monitors, though Fisher says the U. S embassy will be watching the vote closely. What we are trying to get Johnny is basically to ensure that there is space to ensure their space for more than one voice. In this country. Lukashenko kicked out the less U. S ambassador to Belarus in 2008 after the US accused his government of human rights violations and tighten sanctions. Michelle Kelemen NPR NEWS Washington

The big differences been sparring partner does not pressure, say anything or results is much Wa with the coach, and it definitely definitely feel about that more.
Recording shows Trump called for firing of former Ukraine ambassador
"We have reporting tonight about a recording being an audio recording that is apparently of the president from two thousand eighteen in which he personally and in blunt terms calls for the firing of Marie. Ivanovich Ambassador Astra to Ukraine now. Reportedly this this recording has been given to the Intelligence Committee in the House if the Senate will not accept except that tape as evidence or can't because of the way the timeline works here. Would you encourage the house to release that tape on its own to the public. Look we believe everything often should be made public. We believe we have right on our side. We believe the American people are on our side. You know when we started four weeks ago with witnesses and documents no one knew would it was now however our Republican colleagues feel they know their constituents are strongly for witnesses and documents and incidentally there is still eight to ten Republicans who have not said. They're against witnesses and documents. We hope to get him but we should make it public. And I'll say one more thing about that tape. What president trump did and? This has the support from impeachment Dodo. She is part of the impeachment situation. What he did to ambassador? Ivanovich is just despicable. This is a woman who dedicated her life to the country. She was not a political person at all. She was the kind of person that makes America proud. She's sort of in a civilian sense like our soldiers and for him to be so nasty and to be so cruel in his actions to her and now on this tape. He's despicable he's despicable and what Adam Adam Schiff talked about and what a lot of the managers did is what the president does and how he acts that. It has to be his way or no way that he is the whole country if the benefits him it's good and if it doesn't it's not regardless of how it affects America That plays into this. This man is is just he is so against the greatness of American values and what we believe in and this is just another stunning awful example. It's despicable despicable.
Ukraine opens probe of possible surveillance of ambassador
"All of this information coming out about possible surveillance and alleged possible threats of a US ambassador to Ukraine. Where Eric is the secretary of State who was supposed to protect those ambassadors? Mike Pompeo as a member of congress was outraged endlessly about what happened to our ambassador Benghazi but he has nothing to say nothing to say in these last twenty four hours. Do you believe that part of the motivation to get rid of Ambassador to get her out of post was because She was in the way of this effort to get the government of Ukraine to announce investigations have Joe Biden. Those only motivation that was the only other. Donald Trump told the president of Ukraine in the phone. Call that got the president of the United States. Impeached that the American ambassador to Ukraine Marie amount of rich who donald trump had just removed was quote was bad news and the people she was dealing with in the Ukraine. Were bad news so I just WanNa let you know. Oh that she's going to go through some things to donald trump on under surveillance through Guiliani and his associates including love partners. The evidence left handed over to the house. Intelligence Committee includes texts from trump contributor Robert. Hi to left harness. Yes that indicated Mr Hyde. How the ambassador under Surveillance Rachel? I love about that repeatedly. It appears to be giving you very specific information about the ambassadors movements about her location about her security situation calls the B word it over and over again. It's very hostile to her and seems to be monitoring her whereabouts. What why did those exchanges happen? What was he trying to tell you? I don't believe I think he was either drunk or he's was trying to make himself bigger than it was so I didn't take it seriously and I was trying to see. I didn't even respond to most of the time if I did it was like something. Lowell or okay or great or something like that just to because I wouldn't respond for a long time and then I didn't want him to get rowdy if I saw him next time and say well. Why didn't you type those texts? Were taken very seriously last night when they released last night by the diplomatic corps the United States all over the world. Dennis Schell Smith is a former career foreign service officer who served as ambassador to Qatar. In the Obama administration she held several positions in the State Department tours of duty posts around the world. She speaks Arabic Chinese Spanish and Hebrew and she knows the kinds of risks are ambassadors face including threats that she herself faced when serving as ambassador after the news broke last last night of the threatening language used in these newly revealed tax about embassador Ivanovich. Donna Shell Smith tweeted. Many ambassadors are used used to hearing about threats and various malign actors surveilling us. It's the fact that it was Americans plotting associates of the president put. That takes this just beyond January discussion. Now is former ambassador. Dennis Schell SMA. Thank you very much for joining US tonight. And I WANNA to get your reaction to the new evidence entering into this picture tonight of love partners saying oh no worry about it. That was all just a joke. Mr Hyde died is just a drunk and I didn't take him seriously. Mr Hyde himself appeared on another a network saying yeah I was drunk all joke. What is your reaction to that? It was is all a joke defense. Well thanks for having me Lawrence. I mean my reaction is that it needs to be investigated. I hope it was just a joke. I hope for that landscaper in Connecticut. who was drunk just happened to be texting about an ambassador in Ukraine and with very specific things like what her electronic devices were doing and the layout of the embassy buildings so yeah? I hope that was a joke but it really just does need to be investigated if we take it and think of it in a different context maybe from regions where I've served if you knew a group wanted you out of the way and then you saw that sort of text exchange change. I don't think anybody would be very relaxed about it. Can you imagine a in any previous administration a secretary of state being absolutely silent after the revelation of evidence like this Lawrence. I joined the Foreign Service when I was twenty one years old. I worked for eight secretaries of state. Five presidents I've seen leadership this is. It's unbelievable I know. I cannot imagine any secretary Terry. Having been absent every hour. That Secretary Peyot is silent or tweeting about other things is just. It's more unconscionable unsuitable and just a complete abdication of his leadership role or let's take a look at Rachel going at this issue again as I said she questioned about this repeatedly Let's listen to more of your questions about this questions about this. But the texts where he was supposedly reporting on the whereabouts of the ambassador went went on for a week. I mean it wasn't like one drunk night correspondent for seven days couldn't have been drunk the whole time of year old. He wakes up and is drunk he starts at six. I mean I've never seen him not drunk so you thought that this was him making it up. You didn't believe he actually had the ambassador under Alan. Absolutely so the defenses. It was a joke. He was drunk. But what you're calling for is an investigation. And I. I know if you were still an ambassador inservice. You couldn't be with us now. Having this conversation and calling for this investigation I have a sense that you are. We're speaking for ambassadors United States ambassadors around the world. Tonight they haven't asked me to. I may have the sense that I'm speaking for some of them as well. But I'm I'm here with my own opinion but I don't know how anybody could listen to that interview and not walk away and say there needs to be an investigation of the threat and of all of these surrounding issues You had an earlier guest talking about our foreign policy being hijacked by this group of people with no official role in no oversight. There's a whole host of issues that need to be investigated and I think anyone who cares about our national security feels that way and such an investigation would be under the jurisdiction of the Attorney General of the United States in the last hour in that interview. We just heard live police. Say The attorney. General William Bar is on the team. He was part of this entire endeavor of trying to influence Ukraine. How does that make you feel about the possibilities of investigation? Well I can't speculate on what might actually happen in an investigation. And I'm really grateful that Chairman Angle and the House Foreign Affairs Committee is is calling for an investigation as well and I believe planning to conduct one. But I will say having spent you know two and a half decades explaining blaming American institutions to foreign publics and talking about our justice system as the finest in the world and our system of checks and balances. It's heartbreaking heartbreaking actually to even contemplate that our system might not work and. I'm not talking about what the outcome is. I'm talking about an investigation and let the investigation happen and see where it leads. You investor Dan Shell Smith. Thank you for your service representing this country country around the world and thank you for joining us tonight really appreciate it thank

"Again. We're covering the breaking news tonight about this remarkable pile of evidence and information that the Intelligence Committee has just released released to the public tonight in advance of the president. Senate impeachment trial starting tomorrow The chairs of the various impeachment committee say tonight that this information is being released this evening thing because they want this evidence to be conveyed to the Senate alongside the articles of impeachment against President Trump which are formerly going to be conveyed to the Senate tomorrow afternoon among the most disturbing material released. Tonight is a long series of encrypted text messages from last spring they involve left Parnell. Who is currently we under indictment in the southern district of New York? He's the person who's reportedly handed this material over to the intelligence committee. The texts are between him and Robert. F Hide a Republican Congressional National Candidate from Connecticut and in these text messages Mister Hyde appears to be basically reporting to love about the physical movements and the Security Kirti situation around Ambassador Murray Ivanovich in the initial parts of their text exchanges are about Or negative information about Mr Ivanovich Donovan. Mr Hyde. At one. Point explaining exclaiming using expletives talking about how terrible she is and how trump should fire her but then it moves quickly onto what appears to be surveillance reports from somebody who's watching her little sample of those messages quote. She is under heavy protection outside kief quote. They're moving tomorrow. The guys over there asked me what I would like liked to do and what is in it for them. She's talked to three people. Her phone is off computers off. She's next to the embassy not in the embassy. Private security been there since Thursday quote. They're willing willing to help if we slashed. You like price. Guess you can do anything in the Ukraine with money. What I was told? If you WANNA out they need to make contact with security forces and then after that quote it's confirmed we have a person inside tonight in response to this information ambassador. IANOVICH Donovan lawyer has just released this statement saying quote. Needless to say the notion that American citizens and others were monitoring ambassador Ivanovich movements for unknown purposes is disturbing. We trust that the appropriate authorities will conduct an investigation to determine what happened during congressman. Jim himes he's a member of the Intelligence Committee he he also represents Connecticut's fourth district which is right next door to the district in Connecticut. Where Mr Hyde is currently standing as a Republican candidate for Congress Mr Himes Congressman Been? Thank you so much for joining US tonight. Hi Rachel. I know this isn't the right way to ask this question. But what the heck what is this. Please tell me. This is a fabulous te who has concocted some sort of fantasy plot in his mind. And this wasn't a real thing. Yeah I I'm not the the governor of Connecticut Rachel but I do on behalf of the people of Connecticut apologize for Mr Hyde and and and and look I guess there's two ways to look at this As you said earlier in the show this is not Mr Hyde's first brush with fame. He of course got some attention by putting up a truly disgusting tweet about senator. Kamala Harris when she withdrew from the presidential race so look this guy's a malignant clown. It is quite possible that he was just making all this stuff up. This is that would sort of be consistent with with this guy But of course we don't assume that it is also possible And we don't know this true or false that he actually did Talk to people on the ground who were surveilling and conceivably threatening the United States ambassador. This is the kind of thing that we take very very seriously. Despite the clown like behavior of of Mr Hyde. Obviously the question question that I think immediately arose in people's minds when we first started absorbing the impact or the the implication of these text messages is whether or not this is what ambassador Ianovich was being being warned about when she got that middle of the night one. Am Coal from the State Department. Telling her to get on the next plane. There were concerns about her safety. That was about a month after these exchanges. Between Mr Mr Hyde were happening via encrypted taxed is there any indication of what the the White House or the State Department aren't might have known about this and whether that is in fact what led to that urgent security alert to the master that got her out of that country I chuckle call Rachel because because we don't know we don't know amidst all of this talk of you know almost cartoon like characters. This is the stuff that if you made it up and put it into comic book. Nobody would I believe. And the reason we don't know of course is is is the headline of everything here. That is getting lost in this story. We don't know the answer to your question because the president is an of the United States in absolutely unprecedented move has refused to make a single person a single email a single phone call available to to congressional investigators. Why is that because every fact every email every trove of live Parnis live Parnis? Who'd never heard of this guy? Not Exactly Ackley. Mike Pompeo but every single e mail document phone call that comes out is deeply incriminating to the president. So you know not only would we liked to have the kind of evidence presented that Nixon was required to present that Bill Clinton presented including testifying and giving a deposition Russian himself Because it would be important understanding to understanding the behavior this president and presumably important to senators actually making an impartial title an informed decision about the behavior that president. But there's any number of subplots like this surveillance of an American ambassador possible surveillance of an again ambassador that we we need to know a lot more about the released from your committee from the Intelligence Committee. Tonight made clear that this wasn't all of it that there's about sixty pages of materials fifty nine pages ages of material that were released tonight but apparently there was a second trove of material that was described by the chairman shift as sensitive material coal records that that included personal sensitive information that therefore shouldn't be made public. Should we expect that. That's the kind of information that will be public interest that may eventually be released to the public after it's been redacted to so that we don't have access anything personal insensitive. You're correct about that. There is another batch of information it was described in the letter it is phone records And phone records by their nature of course have specific phone number sometimes names attached to those And so because time was of the essence here and and really this has been a little bit of a race against the clock and that of course points us to the question of whether Nancy Pelosi was smart or not in delaying The conveyance of the articles to the Senate It's no small matter actually taking a phone as was done in this case and extracting the data from that phone and ultimately understanding thing it and you know understanding what the Russian said so yes. Of course. There's a lot more information here and again. Let me go back to the point. I just made left partners is sort of a fringe character attached. It's too Rudy Giuliani. Could you imagine and I think senators need asked this question. The American people need to ask this question of their senators. Could you imagine what we might learn if we weren't dealing with clowns infringing characters but actually seeing the emails That that existed state that exists at the White House. They would give us a full picture of you know not just the president's misbehavior but who did the State Department no That ambassador IANOVICH was being surveilled. This is the headline. That's getting lost here Rachel Which is the unprecedented refusal of this president? Literally unprecedented when you hear. The Republicans say we're following allowing exactly the rules that Clinton followed Baloney Clinton was deposed Clinton made every single individual and documents and emails available. This president has not made a documentary. Email or phone vocal or an individual available to this investigation. And that's why we're getting the stuff by other means including this remarkable release tonight congressman. Jim himes member of the Intelligence Committee too big week and big night. Thanks for being with us. I appreciate it all right. More breaking news still ahead doesn't stop tonight. Michael Flynn has just made a dramatic move of his own general. Flynn has been heading for sentencing later this month. For lying to investigators about his contacts with the Russian government during the presidential transition. He pled guilty to that charge and he agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in exchange for leniency in his own sentence that cooperation gratien however went sour in the end and prosecutors recently recommended to the judge that he received up to six months in jail. Well now as of tonight he has just filed a motion to withdraw his guilty plea. The motion says in part quote Michael T Flynn hereby moves to withdraw his plea because of the government's bad faith faith vindictiveness and breach of the plea agreement among other matters Flynn's legal team sites the inspector general report from last month on the origins of the Russia investigation. And and lots of crazy stuff to this filing tonight comes a week after prosecutors said that Flynn should get up to six months in jail in terms of what's going to happen here. It is hard to know. He's essentially trying to change his plea to not guilty. Which means he wants to go on trial for these charges? We'll talk about how likely that is. And what this means for case when we come back stay with us one.

If people watched the show they might hear ten in twelve seconds of song. But if you're in the house you're hearing a whole performance of peace and you're doing what four or five songs every day for the show yes about five or six songs As the opening theme and closing thing which I composed and we played every night and then there the bumpers that happened between acts and we have to act comedy one being the monologue want being a desk comedy piece and then we have two guests typically night and then and maybe a music guest so between all those acts and also walking on each guest. "From the newsroom of the Washington Post. I know hey you back from Washington Lori Art over at the. I'm this is post reports Martine powers. It's Tuesday November nineteenth today week two of public testimony in the impeachment inquiry. Why political cool? Turmoil is erupting across Latin America and the growing threat of superbugs and now recognize ranking member Nunez running remarks. You'd like to make thanks. Gentlemen liked to address a few brief words to the American people watching at home. If you watched the impeachment hearings last week you may have noticed a disconnect between what you actually saw and the mainstream media accounts describing when you saw three diplomats who disliked president trump's Ukraine policy discussing second hand and third hand conversations about their objections with the trump policy. Right now we have had three career diplomats with collectively dozens of years of experience testify on nationally televised hearings before Congress. Bill Taylor Marie Ivanovich and George can't and what's significant about these diplomats who have testified so far you're is that they all are in their jobs because of their expertise in Ukraine matters. They are nonpartisan and they work for you know Republican administrations ministrations democratic administrations. They don't leave when a new president comes in and they follow the policies of that administration. I'm Lisa Ryan and I cover the federal government for the Post. These career employees are kind of Rohrschack test. I whether you're Democrat or Republican because by being nonpartisan and by swearing an oath to serve the constitution the career people are really telling lawmakers how they see things and basically how this kind of shadow foreign policy that president trump and his allies were conducting being was out of the norm during impeachment proceedings against Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton the major players were all appointees and aides. But this this time. Many of the characters at the center of the inquiry are career bureaucrats civil servants and professional staff. I think that the career people are are really relevant relevant. Only because they didn't ask to be in this situation they were not whistle blowers they were not the original whistle-blower they were subpoenaed. They were told by their supervisors risers. This Day department not to come testify. So these diplomats and other career officials have enormous potential to face retaliation. Marie Ivanovich the former ambassador to Ukraine. Who has testified in open hearings said that she felt threatened several times by president trump and she is still take apartment employees? She's going to go through. Some things didn't sound good. I kind of felt like a vague threat and so I wondered what that meant concerned. I mean they could face threats to their security clearance renewal. The government could hold those up. They could be reassigned. They can be removed from coveted national security details and yet they are still coming forward to testify in nationally televised hearings which has got to be a pretty scary the prospect but they sworn oath to the constitution and each of them has said that they feel that the the country's national security was at risk in the Ukraine matter. Lisa Ryan covers the federal government for the Post..

He can do whatever he wants. All presidents can under Obama ambassadors. Were coming coming back in body bags. Now everyone's upset because one got fired. So what people get fired all the time. It doesn't make a difference witness tampering. Really shift colluded with the whistle blower. That's witness tampering. Bribing how about what. Obama sends pallets of cash to Iran. More of a bribe than this freezing aid for a blink of an eye. That's a bribe. tweeting is now an impeachable offense. That's witness tampering. Larum Sir the court let me and then you WanNa get them for obstruction there criminalizing everything. He looked really irked to me too. He looked genuinely irked. Yeah I love it. Listen I know Jesse was actually quite astute analysis folks. I have to tell you Jesse's sharp guy is probably the best minute of audio. I'm not kidding. I have seen on Fox in years I mean we. I'm including myself in that I mean what a total complete evisceration viscera of every stupid leftist talking. And Joe. I believe your analysis is correct. Jesse can be sarcastic. And wanting provides some comic relief on the five but Jesse's Smart Guy Homework and I agree with you. I think he is reaching the point where the BS meter. He's done yet like he's done like thank you and I are done like Paul has done. The audience has done like we are really really tired of this like we were tired of two years ago. Now we're tired of being tired of it like like you. Idiots really need to get out of the way and let the country move on really because you big liberals and their hoax tres and their media allies and they're spinsters. There's and they're talking heads. You really just need to pipe down and get out of the way now. I mean it's really a disgrace. What's going on? It's a constitutional republic. You're free to our art your grievances and air them. But you're clearly at this point throwing a monkey wrench in the machinery the country just because you all have the sad. Because you don't like the president and and candidly it's really gross. But the main talking point there That Juan tried to put out there. which is I don't know how it's even talking way? Fired Marie Ivanovich and she's upset. We'll get his breitbart piece again. which would be in the show notes? A must read today by Charlie. Spirit flashback. President Obama fired all of George W Bush's appointed ambassadors. Twenty eight thousand. I'm just curious Joe. And we're supposed to just let this go. What do you think we're stupid? Thank you Jesse. Really very well done now getting to the hearing because I didn't even get to the Ivanovich Ivanov cheer because again. I don't care what the Democrats are telling you with their boot. Licking Media Acolytes and sycophants. I'm telling you I'm getting it from friends. Ends of friends and friends of Friends of friends kind of like the whistle blower. who were hearing rumors that this thing is a catastrophe for the Democrats? You don't believe me. This is an impeachment. Hearing about alleged high crimes misdemeanors treason or bribery right. I that's what this is testifying him as the audience on budget. This is not a catalog Shin Horror Auction. Who It's not a you you know a free screening of a movie? This is an impeachment hearing correct. Yes it is yes it is Dan yes thank you yeah. We're talking about alleged aged high crimes and misdemeanors treason bribery. Here is Chris. Stewart Congressman from Utah the Republican side asking Maria von of. Its use testifying at an impeachment. Hearing if she has any evidence of all at all about what they're testifying about actually happened. And here the Hapless Marie Ivanovich lot of it comes up empty again. In addition to the other two witnesses who had nothing on it either. Check this out. Do you have any information regarding the president of the United States accepting accepting any bribes. Now do you have any information regarding any criminal activity that the president of the United States dates has been involved with at all. Now thank you. Thank you for answering directly. The American people know this is nonsense. The American people know this is unfair. Chris Stewart one of the unsung heroes of this. By the way we give a lot of attention to Mr Ratcliffe Nunez Jordan analyst Phonic but there were a lot of really good people up there. We did their jobs. And I want to listen as you know if you're a regular listener to the show get very upset at the Republicans. We don't stand on principle seeing a lot of that Saturday our national debt and other things things exploding but they have really buckled down and fought back on. This and I was proud on Friday. You did a good job and I mean that you know. It's easy to pile on all the time but once in a while. Oh you deserve a pat on the back finally standing up and bearing our fangs against these people who are involved in the spy gate scandal in this cover. She has nothing folks. Nothing Sushi's testifying at impeachment hearing and is set in their own words. You just listen to and saw that. She has no evidence of any crimes. Why are you here newness Ester that why are you here? Nunez's like maybe an HR hearing would be more appropriate because you have to say about getting fired why are you here. Here's again excellent Congressman from Texas John Radcliffe believe a former United States attorney. So a good lawyer remember Uvarov. It's up there. Testifying Democrat witnessed folks. She said Democrat witness and the Democrat as well. She's she's up there testifying that she's a big corruption fighter in Ukraine and. She has the ads because she was fired by trump although she was looking into corruption. Here's John Ratcliffe saying hey listen you were investigating corruption you. Remember to create an ad like this one visit pure winning dot com slash. CNN five real life heroes. Heroes me five. all-star watch brand new episodes. Be Real every Monday. Starting November eighteen only on the report tonight president trump giving Democrats new ammunition the president attacking former US ambassador to Ukraine. Marie Maria Vich during her public testimony. tweeting part everywhere. Marie Ivanovich went turn bad. She started off in Somalia. How did that go then? Fast forward to Ukraine where the new Ukrainian president spoke unfavourably about her. My second phone call with him immediately. Following that tweet Ivanovich was asked to respond. What effect do you think that has on other witnesses? Willingness to come forward and expose wrongdoing. Well well. It's very intimidating dime designed to intimidate is it not I mean I. I can't speak to what the president is trying to do but I think the effect is to be intimidating. Well I want to let you know about Astro that some of us here. You're take witness intimidation varies very seriously. Alex Marquardt has more on ambassador. Ivanovich hearing I will Ukraine policy has been thrown into disarray and shady interests. The word of the world over have learned tally. Little it takes to remove an American ambassador who does not give them what they want. A blistering opening statement by Ambassador Maria von rich highlighting her often dangerous decades service as she took aim at the smear campaign to oust her from her post. I mean there's a question as to why the kind of campaign to get me out of Ukraine happened because all the president has to do is say he wants a different ambassador and in my line of work perhaps in your line of work as well all we have is our reputation and so this has been a very painful period. The president has criticized Ivanovich repeatedly including on the July twenty fifth. Call all with presidents Alinsky calling her bad news and saying she would go through some things. I was shocked and devastated. It is that I would feature in a phone call between two heads of state in such a manner where president trump said that I was bad news to another world leader and that would be going through some things so I was it was. It was a terrible moment. Tom Terrible and threatening sounded like a threat. Did you feel threatened I did. You've wanted quickly called out rudy. Giuliani the president's personal lawyer. For leading this smear campaign against her edgy. Not Understand Mr Giuliani's motives for threat tacking me nor can I offer an opinion on whether he believed the allegations he spread about me. Republicans didn't defend Giuliani's role or his parallel policy in Ukraine crane. Not exactly sure what the ambassador is doing here today. This is the House Intelligence Committee that's now turned into the House and Peach Richman Committee. They argued that the president has the right to recall any ambassador. He likes Bitch said the way she was attacked with no defense from her bosses and then and suddenly pulled out has created a chilling effect. Not only an embassy Keiv but throughout the State Department because people don't know kind of weather efforts to pursue our stated policy are going to be supported and that is a that is a dangerous place to be what was clear in this hearing today. was how profoundly disturbing this. Experience has been free Ivanovich a thirty three year career coming to a crashing halt after she had been asked to extend her tenure in Kiev than yanked out of her post by one am phone call and told to get on the next plane home then when she read the transcript of that July twenty fifth call so when the president talked about her going to go through some things. She said the color drained from her face and she had a physical reaction. So it's no surprise. Aaron that you want to bitch thinks there's been a chilling. I all right. Thank you very much Alex. Everyone's back with me. So Laura the tweet from the president attacking Uganda Vich Sent as she testified the sitting President I and watching today and saying this is this witness intimidation. I think falls into the category absolutely Erin and here's why the President I had states remember. His job is to fully and faithfully execute the laws one in laws and books not to either try to change the testimony of the witness or retaliate against them for doing so and here you have the United States using such language language to try to discredit this witness as William Message. Not just to Uganda Vich. Every other witness. WHO's on the docket next week? From the whistle blower and beyond the president has a very clear their message. Do not testify. If you do you will have the same behavior done to you. David a trump campaign sources telling CNN tonight. That that tweet was quote idiotic. The Attic and saying that made you more sympathetic which Look it was very clear that many Republicans you know felt she. She was and found her to to be entirely credible could his tweet backfire. Oh I without question and I think it did today. I think the Republicans had to spend half their time paying tribute to her Alestra his history and credentials to try and compensate. For what the president did they also talked by the way about the fact that The president was very interested in getting these Jadwin missiles to the Ukrainians. The president was interested in fighting corruption. And she was a she was all for the missiles and she was a renown corruption fighter. So why was she yanked out of their summarily and one suspects suspects. It's because she was a corruption fighter and he was plotting what she would view as a potentially corrupt act. Yeah I mean we should know Jim right she You you know fought for a law. Establishing an anti independent anti-corruption court and Ukraine. I mean there's no one who fought against corruption Ben Ivanovich but trump is denying. It was witness intimidation and of course his loyal lieutenants are as well here they are. I have the right to speak. I have freedom of speech just as other people do. President trump is right to you want to defend himself. It was an attack on the witness. It was it was really a characterization of her resume. I don't know if he's trying to actually buy into the president blaming ambassador for the disaster of Somalia. It appears that that is what this in line with. All we know about the president's treatment even of this ambassador beyond the tweet today he endorsed a campaign to remove right he said in a call we have the transcript. Things are going to happen. Endure bad things. Which of course the ambassador took took his meaning threatening things? We're going to happen to her and that's exactly what happened. We all have free expression. Can you intimidate the public witness in the midst of impeachment trial. That's for the American people. Decide I thank you all very much an accent to talk to a Republican who was in the room. It's been in the room with David. Holmes suicide testifying now what does he make of this. You testimony and Roger Stone found guilty of lying to protect Donald Trump. He is the sixth sixth person in trump's inner circle to be convicted..
Impeachment Hearings: Marie Yovanovitch Says She Felt Shocked and Devastated by Trumps Personal Attacks on Her
"Ambassador recalled by Donald Trump from Ukraine told impeachment investigators that she felt shocked and devastated by trump's uh-huh personal attacks on her and that she was amazed corrupt elements in Ukraine had found willing American partners to take her down with trump tweeting. Attacks Acts on her even as she spoke. Maria Vich became the third witness in public impeachment hearings investigating whether trump abused the powers of his office to serve serve his personal ends after a relatively hushed outing by two career Foreign Service officers yesterday. The hearing room today vibrated with dramatic and and personal testimony by Ivanovich a widely respected anti corruption advocate who has served six US administrations including four Republican in Presidents. A month and a half. After the State Department astor to extend have three year ambassadorship to Kiev for an additional year. Advantage testified died that she took a call from her superior at the State Department that abruptly terminated her overseas career in May ultimately he said the words that every every foreign service officer understands. The president has lost confidence in you. You've said that was a terrible thing to hear. After thirty three years of service Chris to our country it was terrible. You've said that the United States it helped Ukraine make headway against corruption in recent years but under trump the corrupt elements in Ukraine. Suddenly were empowered. To the extent that they succeeded in removing a most convenient figure When are anti corruption efforts got in the way of desire for profit or power Ukrainians who preferred to play by the old corrupt rules sought to remove me? She said what continues to amaze me is that they found Americans willing to partner with them and working together they apparently succeeded in orchestrating the removal of a US ambassador off how it felt to be personally attacked by the president. You've said the effect is intimidating. Chairman Adam Schiff replies. I want to let you know that some of us here take witness intimidation very very seriously.
Trump Attack on Envoy During Testimony Raises Charges of Witness Intimidation
"At is day two of public impeachment hearings on Capitol Hill. This morning has been dramatic today. So witness Marie Ivanovich the former. US Ambassador to Ukraine career. Foreign Service officer who was fired in April as the trump administration tried to get Ukraine to investigate president trump's political rival Joe Biden today. She told the House intelligence committee she was the victim of a smear campaign and as she was speaking president trump trump disparaged her tweeting that everywhere. Maria Vich went turned bad democratic chairman. Adam Schiff asked her to respond. I I mean I don't I don't think I have such powers not Mogadishu's Somali Miss Malaya not in other places. I actually think that Where I've served over over the years I and others have demonstrably Made things better
Is the GOP more united than ever because of the impeachment probe?
"This irregular channel of diplomacy. It's not as outlandish as it could be. Is that correct. It's not as outlander says it could be. I might be irregular but it certainly not outlandish. There's a phrase that pays. That was one argument. The Republican Council tried to make in that effort to defend the president from impeachment. You can judge its effectiveness for yourself with US tonight to talk about all things. Political veteran journalist Jason Johnson politics editor at the root and Rick Wilson Republican what can strategist soon to be following up on his first book. Everything trump touches dies with his new work running against the devil due out in early. Twenty Twenty Gentlemen. Welcome to you both Rick. The president said tonight Republicans have never been more united. Is that what you saw watching the hearing yesterday. Look I think what I saw watching here. Yesterday was Republicans who were in a state of of edgy panic and they were trying to talk faster and louder in hopes of trying to pass the fact that those two witnesses stood on the sat there and laid out a timeline a calendar additional facts additional witnesses. This is this was not a good day for those folks and no matter how many times Jimbo baggins gets up there and dances around like a crazy little leprechaun. It's not gonNA shake the the fact that the facts are against Donald Trump and the and the timeline is donald trump at the witnesses against donald trump. And this that was day one. They had a bad day on day want. I don't think it's going to get much better as we go forward. Jason the Democrats we with day one in the books we have learned. They can schedule witnesses and conduct question tonight. Yes when will you have confirmation that they evan deed found the right messaging that with all we have lived through with muller color. Four hundred plus pages. This is the story to tell this story. People can understand because at the heart of it is a phone. So this is we're gonNA find over the next couple of days if Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff are joe torry if they're good managers if they can set up the lineup properly with the witnesses and I think they did a good job. Look this first day you had two people who as you said. They set the time line. They were very clear. They weren't fuss flustered. They didn't allow Jim Jordan or anybody else to ask them any sort of strange questions that got them off the line And I think the Republicans they weren't unified didn't seem to have a coherent strategy other than do you follow all the conspiracy theories that we know about on read it so I think the Democrats effective very very good job. This is GonNa be a knockout punch situation. That's not what's going to happen. What they need to do is not screw up? Lay out the story because the American public already seems to be in favor of impeachment. They just don't WanNa blow that sort of enthusiasm but let me follow up on that. Do you think this hearsay line of argument is catching on and do you think it has has a time limit on. I don't think here's a works because you've got too many people talking about the same story right. It doesn't look everybody out there who's watching this. The people who are at home my grandmother grandparents everything else like that. They've watch law and order they different sweet hearsay in seems like a credible witness and these people come across as credible until someone blows up until someone someone has that Sam Watterson moment where they get angry on the stage. Everyone watching this right now is when they say well. These people seem credible. We've been hearing about the story. And so far. The Republicans haven't given there's an alternative story to think that this impeachment doesn't make sense and that's really the weakness I saw on Tuesday. Rick I have something for you. This is Nikki Haley tonight on CNN on the topic. Uh of Rudy Giuliani. Was it appropriate based on everything you experience in the world of diplomacy for Rudy Giuliani. The president's personal crystal lawyer someone who had no security clearances to be engaged in what's being described as the shadow diplomacy. I had during my time at the United. The nation's I never saw rudy engaged in that way it is best practice if you have a special envoy to handle certain areas and we do that all the time yeah I think they should've named him the special envoy so that everyone within the administration knew what his role was so instead of former mayor. Of New York's special l'envoi envoy Rudy. Giuliani Rick is that the rosiest possible. Reading of the situation Rudy is in question to what is going on. Do you think was Nikki Haley. I think Nikki's missing one of those profound rules in life. The rats are supposed to jump off of the sinking ship rather than on the a sinking ship. And so tonight. She gambled more credibility away by essentially essentially putting your arms around Rudy Giuliani. A guy who is already being dragged out behind the barn. Because they're done with him. The trump people are trying to cut in loose. The Republicans in Congress are going to try to blame this whole thing. Hang on Rudy when it comes down to it. That's their last-ditch scenario and so now she's basically praising Rudy at a moment where his stock has fallen so far with trump personally with with the trump world that it's only a matter of time before he was just a coffee boy volunteer. We barely knew him rudy. Who Jason Ivanovich tomorrow? Tomorrow give us a bit of a preview. We tried to point out the top of the broadcast. We recall ambassadors all the time. Rarely do they say they feel threatened in their personal lives. Rarely does one of the locals say to them. Watch your back when when she's saying I felt threatened. I don't even know why the president was talking about. I mean this is going to be the emotional punch. Got The story I. Now we're hearing people felt threatened. People feel concerned people in the country in the Ukraine. Were like we don't even know what's going on. What's it's dangerous here? And this is where Raju Liani and all these other individuals come into play. It doesn't matter if he was named special envoy. You don't put your ankle breaker on staff right soon. Everyone knew that trump had a lot of people operating in these sort of irregular channels and she speaks to how those irregular channels made regular long-term service. People feel uncomfortable. No and that's going to be the story that Americans take with them over the

"Guess that's how it works if you can't hear it didn't happen but that doesn't work because I try that with trump all the time and he's still there no matter how much our charter ignore him. He's still there so oh well. Today's Thursday today is a day off from the hearings. They will be back back tomorrow with Marie. Ivanovich or Masha. We should probably call after tomorrow. We can all Masha because by then we'll be old friends so nope. I hope you're okay with what I did yesterday. As I told you when the hearings are on I'm going to I'm going to air them live because we're living through history every now. This is something that you know fifty years down the road. Well I won't be here certainly will be here in fifty years. I don't plan on leaving living two hundred ten but our kids will be saying I watched those. Here's or I listened to every moment of them on the Nicole Sandler show. Oh I'm not on for every moment but you get the idea anyway. It's history. I can't not play them tomorrow though. The testimony begins is at nine. AM as opposed to ten eastern the way it started yesterday and there's only one witness Marie Ivanovich and so I doubt that she'll go well into the three o'clock eastern our after starting at nine. Am but you never know. And if they do you will carry it. If not I have a I have a plan for that. Where are you Liz? Here we go. We have a plan in for that. It's been a while just because you know I'm only doing four hours a week. We may change that soon. But it's been a while since we've had either Dave Johnson or guys pugliese on the show and a little secret. I'm on an email list with both of them and we've been having some great discussions And the two of them have been very instrumental in them so I thought let me bring them on together. We'll do like a panel thing you know like they do on the TV and you know. We'll have a good discussion. You're welcome to call into can figure out how to make the phones work anyway. So that's tomorrow will cover Marie Ivanovich and will Will will cover it however it goes. There is news to get to today. That doesn't involve the hearings so so let's start with that shall we and all right. We'll do it live.

Yeah Chris I mean it certainly seems seems like Parnasse is angry he's angry that the president has said that he doesn't know who he is he feels like the president has completely mischaracterized their relationship and you have to be inclined to believe a bit because there are so many photos of them together over the last two or so years a political events at gallows at fundraisers Parnis and firmin were everywhere and they surrounded the president at many pivotal moments so what we're seeing now is they've opened the door to cooperation with the congressional committees that doesn't necessarily Sara Lee mean of course that it's going to happen because a lot of the documents at the Congressional committees want are in the hands of the FBI which of course rated partisan ferments belongings as part of their indictment it also is remains to be seen whether or not their lawyers are even going to his learned this case has even going to let him testify because he's in the middle of a criminal probe but this does indicate at least a shift for now in how he perceives the president and trump really hasn't learned this lesson that you know when these people are are under scrutiny and he continues to criticize them his former allies and says I don't know them well they usually have receipts Zoe what did we learn today in the Ivanovich Ivanovic testimony in terms of the nexus between this sort of strange plot that was hatched by nuts room in for variety of reasons perhaps APPs personal business reasons as well as Ingraham themselves the president and the president and Rudy Giuliani's attempt to squeeze Ukraine government for for dirt on their political what we saw was perspective from yet another witness in the impeachment inquiry sort of explaining how they learned that there was this other her channel between the White House and Ukraine that was unofficial not sanctioned involved a cohort of non-government officials in this case Rudy Rudy Giuliani left parnasse eager freeman who for months had been traveling around trying to set up connections and Ukraine in an effort to dig up dirt on Joe Biden trying to discredit the Mueller investigation but all while making entrees into very official circles in Ukraine to the dismay dismay of the career civil servants who you know whose job it was to establish those formal channels between the administration and these foreign government entities and what we heard what we saw in the transcript was the former ambassador Marie Ivanovich saying you know learning about this back channel and being perplexed and concerned -cerned by it but not really seeing away out and being told that if she wanted to keep her job she needed to ingratiate herself with the president and not make waves about this both the one in one point she testified she was told to tweet US support for the president. I mean what what's fascinating here and attach you had these sort of comparative means of of of conducting yourself Marie Ivanovich the lifelong foreign service officer who's there who's trying to like steer American policy and then the Parnassus Fruman and Giuliani's of the world old who are wheeling and dealing and taking meetings and doing God knows what God knows who's behest and those are the people president is listening to and who had the imprimature of the entire hire American state behind them exactly Chris and Marie Ivanovich testified that this wasn't something that the State Department could just ignore they felt really hamstrung owned by the fact that this dual foreign policy track was taking place and at one point she said the Ukrainians didn't know who to talk to didn't know whether we represented US policy whether they should be listening to Giuliani and Parnasse Freeman and the rug really felt like it was being pulled out from beneath us we have to remember also that this is a very sensitive moment what what has been a very sensitive moment in Ukraine for the last five years since the Russians invaded eastern Ukraine and at this moment there trying to negotiate peace in the east with the russian-backed separatists separatist so for the aid to be withheld at this sensitive time was extremely troubling to the Crohn's and on top of that they didn't even know who the interlocutors were are there was supposed to be communicating with fast forward to mushy Ivanovich getting removed recalled from Ukraine someone that they really trusted now they have no choice really okay but to try to negotiate with the president and the best way that they can which is Zilenski you saw on that phone call kind of saying to the President Yes we'll investigate ah yes we'll do what you want essentially to try to appease him because again Ukraine faces an existential threat to its east and they are trying to navigate that right now the best way they can we're also getting a lot more back story on the origins of this I think deranged saying conspiracy theories about Ukrainian involvement in the two thousand sixteen election the idea that actually the DNC hack was a Ukrainian op that they conspired to frame Russia for it doesn't actually make sense when you sort of square it up but this this article near that Manafort was actually spreading that back in twenty sixteen it's been germinating and sold to the president time and time again what do we know about uh-huh so over the weekend buzz feed at CNN received a new cash of documents from the Justice Department then it was as hundreds of pages of records of notes that were taken during the investigation and in one seer set of notes from Rick Gates who had been the deputy campaign manager Paul Manafort's right hand man Rick Gates told investigators that basically as soon as news broke in two thousand sixteen the DNC had been hacked that wikileaks had these messages and they were going to release them. Paul Manafort was immediately saying it wasn't Russia it was Ukraine and Michael Flynn who was at the time a senior advisor to the campaign later became trump's short-lived first national security adviser also was immediately saying adamantly it wasn't Russia it wasn't Russia look at Ukraine so we had at the time three years ago to senior officials in the trump campaign trying to you direct the narrative away from Russia towards Ukraine it raises all sorts of questions of who they were talking to us who's ear they had and it's the theory that it has really persisted notwithstanding the findings of the US intelligence community that it was Russia that orchestrated the hack of the DNC that was
Full Trump Impeachment Transcripts Released For First Time
"And we begin with breaking news today the congressional impeachment probe is going public for the first time here is the scene in Washington is house. Investigators are releasing the first transcripts from their high stakes impeachment interviews showing the world what some witnesses witnesses testified about president trump's Ukraine cream clot you're looking at of course that House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff he was stepping out to the cameras here to recount damning testimony from the former ambassador to Ukraine and banned from Mike Pompeo's deputy at the State Department as one of the first witnesses to this irregular backchannel that the president establish with Rudy Giuliani the degree to which the apparatus of the State Department itself was being used to seek political information for a political local purpose by the President United States tomorrow we are scheduled to release the transcripts of Ambassador Volker earn a Bachelor Sunland and we will continue to release the transcripts in an orderly way Democrats say this orderly release ace of calls and transcripts and everything they have that is supporting the evidence will ultimately deal with the Republicans bluff and what they say are basically bad faith complaints about this probe and processed thus far democrats say that everyone will then see the same interviews the same allegations the same corroboration of trump Giuliani plot it's so concerned career diplomats army officers and other nonpartisan veterans now I'm going to go through right now just a few of the high points. Today's release provides four hundred seventy three pages of of new testimony and it paints a rebuttal to the emerging argument at trump's Ukraine mistake or plot with some sort of simple phone call or just an uncompleted request that's part of the defense that trump allies have lined up but here you have impeachment witnesses like a former ambassador saying Donald trump threatened her for her objections to that infamous July phone call recounting she was shocked and surprise trump would speak about me or any ambassador in that way to a foreign counterpart the point there is that this diplomat was concerned trump was acting more in concert with foreign interests in this shadow agenda then the State Department she details this by going on and showing how a now famous trump loyalist Mr Gordon Sunlen advisor to address these internal attacks on her by going political saying quote you need to go big or go home tweet out there that you support the president and then all these are lives and everything else well that is improper advice career diplomats do not go oh big on public political endorsements anymore than military leaders do both categories of service members steer clear of for example both parties political conventions engines that's just to avoid any perception that currently serving officials at the Pentagon or state are just political partisans then tonight we can also report report on new testimony about the intersection of this shadow foreign policy plot and the president's shadow communications arm because a Fox News anchor who shared a lawyer with the president whose name arose in the Mueller probe is back in the new transcript out tonight this ambassador details how Sean Hannity's attacks on her and his alleged support of aspects of Ukraine plot made it at the highest levels of the State Department where some officials called Hannity seeking any evidence to support basically these red hot allegations against her the testimony stating that these officials asked basically Fox News. Hey what's going on do you have any proof of these kinds of allegations or not and if you have proof tell me and if not stop press reporting can of course draw any kind of pushback or dialogue from the government that itself isn't automatically suspicious but impeachment investigators are probing the theory that this was part of the shadow foreign policy to hijack diplomacy for trump's reelection fox news itself as rebuked handy for for what you see on your screen his appearance at a trump rally which of course makes them look less like an independent reporter and more like trump surrogate so keep all that in mind when you go all the way back to march on Hannity's show which by the way doesn't usually delve into the names of individual ambassadors to all the different countries around the world but on that show they went in named named check this one you have a Novic and that looks especially interesting given what is coming out today that Giuliani and others were trying to oust her letter surfaced I from a senior member of Congress to Secretary Pompeo accusing the current US ambassador in Kiev a bad mouthing the trump administration we also now know that the current United States Ambassador Marie Ivanovich has bad mouth the president of the United States this woman needs to be called home to the idiots that's unhappy show that's trump's big booster lawyer Joe Digenova and that's what they were saying about the ambassador back in the spring we now know here's why I'm showing that tonight and why it came up in today's release testimony we know that wall does public attacks were occurring Fox News taking a sudden interest in a random ambassador Rudy Giuliani was pushing Ukraine plot and that's not all that Fox News Larry just saw there to Geneva who's making that case with Hannity he legally Wrigley represents the conservative writer who was pushing the same Ukraine plot so that's the context for this ambassadors testimony about what looks like a coordinated smear campaign not not only the ouster but to get a bribe out of Ukraine to help trump win reelection now the other new transcript today comes from an aide to Secretary of State Pompeo who criticized the administration for using the State Department for this quote to procure negative political information for domestic purposes and when asked about efforts to quote us the State Department apartment to dig up dirt on political opponent Kinley responds in thirty seven years in the foreign service in different parts of the globe and working on controversial issues ten years back in Washington I had never a scene that I'm joined now by former Federal Prosecutor John Flannery Hawke a former White House and State Department official administration Good evening to both of you know what is the level of significance of these of these disclosures in your view and how unusual are they given your experience to have any of this going on inside the State Department and it's fascinating in a very period reading a political thriller Type Way and it's completely out of line line with how we usually run national security and diplomacy efforts what we're really seeing is how the president and a day by day basis was effectively extorting a foreign in government to be able to advance his own political interests renal damage was a was a career official who's doing her job as best as she knows how she's been trained to do and and Giuliani and his goons that are sick on her to try to make her bend to do the president's specific political bidding that's what we're seeing in the transcript I also find find very fascinating how trump's twitter account has really filtered down to the lowest and highest levels of diplomacy on the same day in which president trump trump there's accounts of how his staff was trying to do a fifteen minute delay and his twitter account suddenly the same day we see a transcript that says an ambassador has to tweet her loyalty and praise of the president is all about his own personal ego and not about the security walk us through what you're getting at there because obviously there are people people are welcome to go out and say whatever they want about great any politicians right people in public life in America the political arm the campaign arm you're saying ah we mentioned earlier in our reporting that the State Department like the Pentagon is supposed to be totally walled off from that and this is the part where we talk about country over party it's actually actually part of the service agreement that Foreign Service officers at the State Department who are the career diplomats military officers over at the Pentagon and the armed force who says they are supposed to be advancing the interests of the country and the policy there is a layer political appointees who tried to steer the ship and the direction that the president may want they're usually work together in concert and not against each other but at no point is it supposed to be praised the dear leader this is what we think it is about praising America America independent whoever holds the White House John Let's stipulate that these officials who many of them we've noted are are bipartisan experience. Say this is terrible terrible bad reform policy people might get fired over it that's all of the policy personnel side but this isn't just that level this is a higher level today these I transcript we've seen tonight ever in the impeachment probe do you see anything in here that hits the higher level of evidence of a high crime yes the thing thing that I was interested in that I didn't realize because I didn't focus at the time when Hannity referenced the Congressman He referenced Congressman Sessions from Texas You may remember that he was the target of the two associates of Rudy Giuliani to receive funds to write the letter attacking advantage so in a moment ago you were talking about kind of the the the rat's nest of how these people are all intertwined gentleman I don't think he said S. maybe I mean I was thinking when you were saying it but so what I see is a connection here and it goes back I like all compulsive lawyers here's I read at least the beginning of Ivanovich testimony and at the beginning of the Republicans who wanted to be in the room we're in the room and they did everything they could to be dilatory into the delay what was going on unsuccessfully but on top of that gave us a sense of what she was going through over there and how they were spreading word that she I was saying some people shouldn't be prosecuted which was ally and this goes back to November of eighteen and coming forward so this is a long campaign and Rudy Giuliani was in there from the beginning as we've learned from other witnesses so I think that th the pieces are here and people fairly read the transcripts all this they saying about could pro quo goes away and all we're faced with bribery and extortion and misconduct but by many more people just talk to John you're saying these transcripts alone we're not up to everyone who was on the call this isn't that part that's not the first hand account of the call the investigators investigators are saying they're releasing as they go but this part you're saying provides what part of the bribery plot well what it provides is we have to get out of the way somebody who would prevent ah rural rudy from doing when he wants to do which is to create the situation for the president to have an easy pass and the twenty twenty election having having them announcing bogus investigate only I'm only slowing you down because there's so much happening here Before I got another lawyer I'm going to bring in with you as if my first lawyer you're saying basically if the briefcase briefcase bribe is getting the Biden investigation some of these diplomats were hearing from now where people in the room who would say don't do that we don't do that and so we're seeing the part of the conspiracy tonight according to these transcripts were first those people had to be cleared out of the room then you bring in abroad yes that's and it looks like they were they were working on parallel tracks but she was always a danger because she was a straight shooter and they he didn't want a straight shooter and they wanted to be rumbling around behind the Green Curtain doing what they were doing both for apparently Rudy's own personal bank account but also oh to help the president get this dirt on Biden and that became especially true in July when he was polling better Biden with polling better in the Democratic Democratic primary opponent both these stay with me as promise I wanNA bring in another lawyer in one with tremendous experience Roberts General Counsel at the NSA senior roles at CIA and Defense Department good evening to you sir a good evening Sir I put the same question to you and without profiling you too much a part of your job is to look at this from the perspective of the Intelligence and security agencies to give you know the tie would go to them typically on your day job right give them a benign nine view of or at least a defense of what happened given your experience in that and you look at what we're seeing in these new transcripts do you see a way that this breaks towards the trump administration or does this look well over the line to me this looks well over the line as a lawyer whenever I hear about a complicated case I always try to put myself in the position of defense counsel what is it that I would argue and I don't see it here and you know the people have objected to to the quid pro quo perhaps because it's Latin a much easier good old Anglo Saxon word is bribery and it's actually mentioned in article two section the three as one of the high crimes and misdemeanors this was an attempt at bribery. Do me a favor and I'll give you four hundred million dollars in military sorry aid yeah you laid out congresswoman Speier who's on the Intelligence Committee making a similar point that you raise their the idea that we are we are looking working potentially here at the allegations of a bribe here's what she said I think that you could make a case for bribery now and I think that discussion needs to be seriously developed and considered because there was an effort to to try to get something of value from misters Alinsky the president of Ukraine Robert how important is it if the Democrats are moving towards making that case and she is on the key committee here that's releasing these transcripts to show that this was a larger plot that there was a premeditated strategy as John and I were just discussing to get anyone who might object out of the room and then
"ivanovich" Discussed on The Ben Shapiro Show
"Asking Lutsenko about Berea the Biden's and Marie Ivanovich the American ambassador to Ukraine and Juliani told trump about these conversations in March Twenty one thousand nine let's Sankoh opens two investigations one into breeze and wanting to the Biden's author to quote Unquote get Joe Biden to get burris MMA it's also plausible that as regionally on himself later says he's actually out there to defend his guy from the trump Russia stuff by targeting Ukraine right which ties back into twenty sixty not forward into twenty twenty by April trump is telling Sean Hannity that Attorney General William Bar might consider allegations about Ukrainian interference in the two thousand sixteen election which by the way he actually is doing stuff is being investigated right now by April twenty ninth Ivanovich was being recalled the Wall Street Journal later says that the Giuliani was actually telling Ivanovich telling trump Ivanovich the ambassador was quote obstructing efforts to persuade Kiev to investigate former vice president Joe Biden okay fast forward to May of this year The New York Times reports the Giuliani was set to visit Ukraine they said Mr Giuliani's plan trip which has not been previously reported is part of a month long effort by the former New York mayor and a small group of trump allies working to build interest in the Ukrainian inquiries their motivation is to try to discredit the special counsel's investigation undermined the case against Paul Manafort Mr Trump's imprisoned former campaign chairman and to potentially damage Mr Biden the early front runner for the twenty twenty Democratic presidential nomination Giuliani then doesn't interview with Fox News in when she talked about that Ukraine worked with the Clinton campaign in two thousand sixteen and discussed the Biden's days later trump says to political it would be appropriate to ask Attorney General William Bar to open investigations the Biden's trump says I've not spoken about what I feel about it I haven't thought of that all of this is the backdrop to trump's decision to pressure Ukraine so was Giuliani telling trump chataway of quote unquote getting Biden or is he telling trump the bad actors and Ukraine had covered up Ukrainian election interference in two thousand sixteen and Biden related corruption cures nineteen he tweeted out that the president was going to that there had to be some sort of investigation into Ukraine and two thousand sixteen antibiotics right it's all it's all one big ball corruption is one big ball of Russian that language was then parroted by trump so again was Guiliani coordinating with trump to get biden or by merely part of this broader ball of corruption that Liane supposedly attempting to fight including fighting trump Russia collusion narrative by looking into a Ukraine Hillary collusion errative. We're not gonNA know this until you Johny testifies either way trump decides to withdraw military from Ukraine contingent on Ukrainian public commitments to fight corruption which now trump's might include both two thousand sixteen election interference as well as the Biden's even today Giuliani continually insists.

Brutal Day For Trump From Congress To The Courts
"Good evening I'm Erin Burnett out front tonight the breaking news it is a brutal day for president trump from Congress to the courts I explosive testimony from a key witness in the inquiry the former ambassador to Ukraine defined trump and the State Department's order to stay silent and as I speak Ambassador Marie you've it is L. Meeting with key members of Congress behind closed doors we expect her to come out this hour and the committee chair and ranking member to speak live here on C. N. N. so as we await that here is what we the ambassador pointed the finger directly at trump accusing the president of the United States of targeting her because she stood up for the rule of law and of course remember she refused to push team trump's conspiracy theories about Joe Biden well today trump tried to act like this was all nothing he said this she may be a wonderful a woman I don't know her but she she may be very much a wonderful woman I just don't know her she may be a wonderful woman he doesn't know her she Abia Wonderful Woman well unfortunately according to the very transcript that trump calls perfect professional end word for word he talked about Ivanovich to the president of the frame saying quote the former ambassador from the United States the woman was bad news and it isn't just in the transcript. He went off the wonderful scripted actually contradicting himself at the same question and answer session here he is at another point I heard very bad things about her and I don't know if I recall somebody gold but I heard very very bad things about it for me it does not good okay so trump's stumbling around there from one version to another comes after five setbacks today coming within hours of each other Democrats could be within reach of temp trump's tax return so this was a crucial court ruling a federal judge ruling against trump's lawsuit to keep those taxes under wraps another federal judge yet another lawsuit ruling against trump signature pet project the wall and then another loss in court three other federal judges just blocking trump's will making it harder for immigrants to obtain legal status trump's response pretending knows nothing about it we lost an immigration I haven't heard that would perhaps the best thing you can put on what was a very bad day first presidency is I hadn't heard that Pamela Brown is out front live outside the White House and Pamela look this was not a good day for the president that's right Aaron he is ending this week with a barrage of negative headlines I in a move viewed in this white all says an act of defiance the former Ukrainian ambassador a testified on Capitol Hill today that the president directly campaigned for her to be fired for Political Purpose says now Democrats claimed the White House try to block her from testifying but she showed up anyway now the president addressed or testimony he said that she may be a quote wonderful woman but he doesn't know her and then deflected saying it was a Ukrainian president who did not like her and then a devastating blow air in the president also lost several high profile four cases today earlier today he lost that court battle over turning over turning over several years of his tax returns to Congress his lawyer say they are weighing an appeal on that decision by the DC appeals court and then he lost some court battles on his signature policy focus emigration a federal in Texas ruined the President's national emergency declaration to build a border wall as unlawful and there's another defeat Aaron a federal judge today blocked a trump administration rule that makes so more difficult for emigrants who rely on public assistance to obtain legal status now I asked the president directly about this today he said he hadn't heard about the rules on immigration sure when I asked him this has been several hours after the royds came out but he did express competence that he would win and he pivoted to focus on all the judges he is put on the bench Aaron thank you very much and I'm GonNa go to Democratic Congresswoman Val demings who sits on both the House intelligence and committees congressman thanks so much for being with me so as far as I understand that the deposition with the former ambassador to Ukraine Marie Ivanovich is still ongoing and we expect it to end momentarily Mr Schiff Mr Jordan to come out and address cameras live so we're awaiting that but I know obviously your staff is in that room you have been briefed on what has happened so far so as far as you know did she say anything that furthers your impeachment case against President Trump will high air and it's great to be with you and let me just say this may be bad day for the president but it's actually been a good day for those of us who are in pursuit of justice in pursuit of the facts and who are involved in this impeachment inquiry my hat's off to ambassador your which who number one appeared today as you've already stated has been behind closed doors testifying all day long and there is no doubt that this is a career foreign service officer who took our old fair very seriously served admirably for our country committed to her duty and that really demonstrated itself today in her testimony the she's very courageous and today was no exception has she spoken directly or how has she been about what she was explicitly asked to do in terms of getting Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son while I can't get as you well know into the details of her testimony what I can tell you is that she's been behind closed doors giving her disposition all day long and she certainly added very all you bold testimony she we would consider her a critical critical witness in our impeachment inquiry and I think she's added value and there's
Ex-Ukraine ambassador forced from her job under pressure by Trump
"Turn down to the dramatic day on Capitol Hill facing pressure from the State Department not to testify to former ambassador of Ukraine did in fact show up and what she said about President trump telling lawmakers she'd been told there was no wrongdoing on her part but that the president wanted her out and tonight twenty four hours after two associates of Rudy Giuliani were arrested is Giuliani part of this investigation what we've now learned here's ABC's Mary Bruce Up until the very moment defiant Maria Banovic walked up to the cabin although it wasn't clear if she was coming at all the State Department told her not to appear but facing a subpoena the former ambassador to Ukraine showed up anyway behind closed doors Ivanovich told lawmakers she was forced from her job under pressure from president trump according to our opening statement obtained the New York Times she was abruptly told in late April to come back to Washington on the next plane Ivanovich says the Deputy Secretary of State explained that the president and had lost confidence in me and that there had been a concerted campaign against me even though she was assured I had done nothing wrong trump has made no see rid of his disdain for the former ambassador very very bad things about it for a long period of done not good in the July phone call with the Ukrainian president that sparked this in teach me inquiry trump called Ianovich bad news later saying she was going to go through some things today Yovanovic who has served in six administer nations called the idea that she was disloyal to president trump fictitious she described herself as incredulous that she was removed from her post based on unfounded false claims by people with clearly questionable motives and she placed blame squarely on the president's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani who claims Ivanovich was blocked king investigators from looking into trump's political opponents including Joe Biden that stems around the ambassador and the embassy being used for political purposes the former ambassador are also points a finger at Giuliani's to business associates who were arrested this week trying to leave the country this video from twenty eighteen showing them laughing with Giuliani at the trump hotel crane soon Ivanovich says those businessmen may well have believed that their personal financial ambitions were stymied by our anti option policy in Ukraine today. ABC News has learned federal prosecutors are investigating the business relationship between Giuliani and those two men or let's get to Mary Bruce She's live up on the hill tonight and married a former ambassador today while testifying describing the State Department now as quote attacked and hollowed from within and we not tonight just a short time ago House Democrats holding a call at the end of a very busy week about how to move forward what are you learning tonight David Democratic leaders feel they are building a strong as against the president especially now that they're able to question witnesses like Yvonna Vich today warned that they are corrupt interests fighting against the US quote selling baseless spiracy theories to anyone who will listen she said quote sadly someone was listening and that our nation was worse off because of it David Bruce live on the hill all day today for us thank you
Ex-Ukraine ambassador says she was removed on "unfounded and false claims"
"And we're back with the politics lead in a key witness former ambassador Marie Ivanovich right now testifying on capitol Hill after she was subpoenaed three House Democratic chairman saying this afternoon that's opinion was issued after the White House and State Department directed Yovanovic not to appear before Congress Yvonne which was the US ambassador to Ukraine but she was removed from her position in May over what she called today unfounded and false claims she said that she was told by the deputy secretary date that there had been a concerted campaign against me and that the department had been under pressure from the president to remove me since the summer of two thousand eighteen unquote Let's discuss January the former spokeswoman for the State Department during the Obama years you know ambassador von Bitch tell us about her is she a partisan Democrat is she not professional no I I worked alongside her for two and a half years she was in a senior role in the European Bureau when I was there I was visiter as a political appointee most people in the State Department our Foreign Service Officers Civil Servants they've served as she noted in her testimony often many Republican and democratic presidents I would've had no idea what political affiliation I still don't know what political affiliation ambassador rich had or has today you know I will say about her that she he is somebody who took pride in being a representative of national interest in the United States interest overseas she had a number of hardship posts which she mentioned in her our testimony as well places that many people don't want to serve that are difficult because their authorisation governments she went and delivered tough talking points or tough messages when that needed to happen she somebody who respects the process respected the process and the institution and sort of when it was working what that could result in which is things being negotiated and discussed and worked through at a working level before they come to the secretary of state or or even levels right below that that's how it's supposed to work you know I think thing for people to understand our I think it's important people understand is that when you're a foreign service officer at least in my experience being there for a couple of years you're not looking for the limelight you know you're not looking for a moment where you can testify or be a public face or have your face on CNN this is something that they all do reluctantly because they feel it's important it's important third public service so my bed is very difficult for her to put together and deliver today but she felt it was important not just for reputation but for the reputation of the institution. and to kind of be a voice for all the frustration and anger that is felt in that institution and has for has been for the last several years it's all reminds me too of week or two ago when the Inspector General for the State Department went to Capitol Hill and presented what was described as a bunch of conspiracy theories about people that are perceived to be president trump's enemies Biden's ambassador and others and she said today that they're just a bunch of lies that were coming from Xi and see waited I guess that they were coming from people like Rudy Giuliani. I have no idea where they were coming from but but insinuated from president trump's partners allies in that were you know spreading stuff and that's the reason she was ousted because somebody giving president trump all these lies about her and she warned that that is going to be an a green light for other actors who wanted misinformation to make the government take specific actions in this case she's saying that misinformation spread about her by the president's allies and that caused her to be from her post and that's a decision that was very welcome not

"History and lyrics of the various songs that were used during the seventy seven minute episode than i did about the story itself because it was also fluid and so perfectly put together this was a work of art this was as good as it gets the idea that philip who had gotten out of the game and you see him in this happy go lucky life outside of the spy game even as you see his daughter is now fully invested in an elizabeth is doing even more than she's ever done before and in having to do more dangerous things than ever before that oleg barat who came all the way back from russia left his new son and left his wife because he was asked to do so by our katie ivanovich came back to dc met with philip and told him about dead hand about all of the things that could be happening around this arm summit and basically said we need you and now philip has been tasked to spy on his wife elizabeth a master spy in her own right pitting husband against wife in a way we'd never seen before on this show is so unbelievably compelling and wide ranging because it can affect every other relationship on the show whether it's stand beaman and philip as friends or we saw that dinner party and i think the dinner party is something might have gone overlooked because not much was happening except the page showing she's definitely a political activist at this point she was kind of jesting and jawing and jousting with biman but if you saw the smiles and everybody laughing and having a good time and juxtaposed with almost everything else that happened in the episode with anybody not named philip you saw all of these people put together in one room with exception of barat who's now in the same city they've gotten all the main characters back in the same city at the same time all centered around one event this arm summit which took place in december of nineteen eighty seven and in as the season starts for about eight weeks away from that event.
