The First Step Act, Chuck Colson, and the Churchs Work of Restoration

"I'm old enough to remember that time way back in two thousand, eighteen when Democrats and Republicans worked together. Really it happened and resulted in a major bipartisan criminal justice reform bill called the first step act which sought to reduce the number of people in overcrowded federal prisons and improve conditions for those behind bars. When he endorsed the bill President Trump said this we're all better off when former inmates can receive and re enter society as law abiding productive citizens at last month's Republican National. Convention Ivanka trump called the first step act the most significant criminal justice reform of our generation? I don't think that's an overstatement. A major feature of this bill is that it reduces mandatory minimum sentences for drug offenders, especially low level nonviolent offenders, and for those already serving time for crack cocaine related offenses the reductions were retro active in just its first year. First Step Act has literally changed thousands of lives according to a recent report from the United States sentencing commission the sense is. More than seven thousand Federal Prisoners Dean able to safely return to their communities were reduced as the libertarian publication reason rightly noted the first step to act as a modest but very real first step towards comprehensive criminal justice reform and I'd add that as part of the legacy of Chuck Colson and the very good work of prison fellowship, this bills and example of the Church's work of restoration. God us. Chuck Colson to transform the way that many political leaders especially conservative political leaders thought. About criminal justice while imprisoned chuck learn just how empty and even counterproductive the lock them up and throw away the key rhetoric that he wants espoused really was the call that God then placed on Chuck's life was to bring the Gospel to prisoners and their families through prison fellowship but that quickly expanded to include prison in criminal justice reform. He quickly realized that being tough on crime was pointless unless we were first smart about crime being smart about crime lead Chuck to campaign against. The three strikes and you're outlaws that swept the US during the nineteen nineties he knew that such laws would only lead to overcrowded prisons, unaffordable system building and maintenance, and eventually the court ordered releases of thousands of prisoners because of political pressures instead of Prudential Wisdom, we've seen some of that even recently God use Chuck Solid, conservative Christian and law and order credentials to advance this new message people who may not have given other activists. The time of day respectfully listened to him many. Hearts and minds were changed not just because of Chuck Colson Passion or is incredible ability to articulate. But because he took people with him back into prison to see for themselves, what he saw to borrow modern fraiche chuck move the Overton Window in other words that acceptable range of policies politically acceptable to the mainstream population and so decades later years after Chuck Olson's death at a time of deep and painful political division. The first apt act garnered bipartisan support, Chuck's legacy of giving people. The moral permission and the intellectual justification to do the right thing in this area is something that Christians should seek to emulate in every aspect of life and culture. Of course if we're going to do this, we have to I know what the right thing is, and then we have to learn to talk about issues in ways that might be heard about a year ago that vision drove us to launch. What would you say a video resource designed to help Christians Converse on our? Culture's most challenging questions. Now, our personal stories might not be as dramatic as Chuck Colson was, but we can still strive for the same humility

"ivanka trump" Discussed on Gaslit Nation with Andrea Chalupa and Sarah Kendzior

"That Putin's Darth vader was running Donald Trump's campaign and her hair was on fire telling anybody that would listen including Republicans so manafort coons operative and Ukraine was paid a ten million dollar a year contract track starting in two thousand six to further the Kremlin's interest and Ukraine and the West and business and media. So this was pretty big deal when he came over and it was stunning to see. Just how unprepared American media were at the time and the FBI. Just didn't Bob does anything. Yanukovych fled Ukraine in February February. Two thousand fourteen. He was overthrown in rare popular uprising. That was successful. Ukraine invited the FBI in to investigate to find the tens of billions of dollars that Yanukovych Sannikov agendas family stole from Ukraine people. If you're investigating UNA Kovic you're investigating the people around him including Manafort. Who was a longtime consultant? Who worked for for a decade or so yet? Coach built himself aver Siamak mansion complete with a private zoo a massive car collection a golf course sprawling marble halls paid for with stolen tax dollars the investigative journalists who helped expose his lavish lifestyles wells. The lifestyle of of some of his cronies. She was ran off the road one night at the end of December number and beaten and left for dead. Her face was so swollen. You couldn't recognize her anymore. That is what manafort aided he was an instrument of Kremlin aggression spreading the chroma corruption by helping consolidates power whether it's in Ukraine or in the United States who trump and his friends so manafort also represents the fact that the Kremlin clearly thinks that Russia is allowed to influence the domestic affairs of other countries but no one else can only Russia and if you dare to do that in Russia for instance they're going to retaliate. They're now calling. Any bloggers are journalists that have been paid by companies based abroad as foreign agents in his meeting with President Dolinsky of Ukraine in Paris. This week guten towards Alinsky. He needs to change his constitution. Okay that's how brazen Putin is so on. Ski Of course laughed. TROLLING PUTIN SO Russia gets to go in and dictate meddle title and attack other countries democracies but if Western states stand united against human rights abuses in Russia by for instance passing them. And that's outrageous. It was enough for Hillary Clinton Express Express support for protests against Putin in the twenty twelve election in Russia for Putina. Hold a grudge against her. So Putin can metal no one else can do anything that he deems meddling including including supporting a strong independent media and anti-corruption performers. So this is all significant because when I G report came out saying that intelligence agency had every right to investigate a Russia's influence on the two thousand sixteen election it's connections the trump campaign trump fires fires back by projecting what it was he actually was doing at the time with his quote. This was an overthrow of government. This was an attempted overthrow and a lot of people were in in on it and they got caught. They got caught red-handed trump literally. Sounds like he's describing the Miller report or any other stuff that's coming on the Patriot inquiry. What trump just said is what manafort was paid? Hey tens of millions of dollars to do by all Adere Pasta and oligarch that's close to Putin what is really troubling. IS THAT AG bar. Who is Tom Hagen? And he's the mafia constantly for the trump crime family and the worst of the Republican establishment has been for decades bar came out attacking the IGA report art and then his little white supremacy looking henchman. Durham broke protocol by attacking it as well what they're doing is they're intimidating imitating all the good people left all the strong patriots left across our intelligence agencies basically telling them if you dare to hold the trump crime family accountable bowl in any way if you dare to leak if you dare to begin any investigation that even based on credible intelligence if you dare to follow up with any information provided you by any foreign foreign intelligence service of our allies from Australia to the UK and so forth. If you dare to do that we will come after you so understand that we have this massive intimidation what's going on in plain sight by the attorney. General who's really a Mafia lawyer and by his henchmen. If you go back to that Lisa page interview that was incredibly powerful in the daily only beat by molly young fast. Lisa page laments. What has happened to her beloved DOJ? Well what happened to your beloved. Doj is what happens in a lot of WANNA be authoritarian turn states with these wannabe autographs at the helm the institutions get purged and. It happens very very quickly. Institutions are only as strong as the people well in them. And if you purge those good people and fill them with latkes. The rule of law suffers democracy suffers. And that's where we are now so speaking of the Inspector Inspector General report should we discuss the new revelation about Christopher Steele which Threw me for a loop and his pen pal. Ivanka trump yeah so Christopher Steele is best known for writing the quote unquote steele dossier. The documents that were leaked to buzzfeed in January twenty seventeen nineteen which reference the infamous alleged P tape? We have now learned that Christopher Steele has had a relationship with Ivanka trump nearly a decade decade before he was hired by Republicans who are working with fusion. GPS to examine the trump campaign. And just a little recap of seals feels findings when seals doing that research for fusion. GPS which was eventually used by the Democrats. He was horrified by what he found. especially his primary. Hi Mary contention that trump had been cultivated as a Kremlin asset since at least two thousand eleven steel spoke anonymously with David Corn of Mother Jones. Who wrote an article? That came out on Halloween 2016. That article was published at how we met. That is how you when I met is true that that is the night that Andrea and I first interacted because I went out trick or treating with my kids came back and my timeline look like a John mccrea novel and Andrea and I both were like like. Wow so there's someone else out there who heard that trump had some kind of disgusting Illicit sex in Russia that has been taped and we'll possibly absolutely be released to the world. So yeah the beginning of a beautiful. That's what I tweeted. I tweeted trump sex tape launching the HASHTAG trump sex tape and Sarah popped MIDEM's and and our lives have never been the same. Yeah it's really really beautiful. Trump's estate manafort mafia schemes. That's what that's the bonds of an enduring friendship right there. So you know David Koren publishers. This article meanwhile the New York Times is publishing a bunch of propaganda about how the FBI says that trump has nothing to do with. Russia wasn't investigating which we know is a total ally. Steel was also horrified allegedly by that New York Times article since then. Steel has largely been in seclusion. There have been a number of reports that his life has been threatened and all that time the information about his relationship with vonk trump was kept secret as. Oh here's a summary of what that relationship entailed. According to the Inspector General's report quote steel called the allegation that he was biased against trump. From the start start ridiculous. He stated that if anything he was favourably disposed toward the trump family because he began his research because he had visited a family member. At trump tower it had been friendly with a family member for some years. He described their relationship as quote personal and said that he wants gifted a family Tartan from Scotland to to the family member and so now we know the family member in question was Ivanka trump. who had at that time? Hit Up Steel to work with the trump's on their business business Interests Aka there mafia activity which still did not do but the two of them stayed in touch. This relationship started around two thousand seven which replace it right after a Vonk had flown to Moscow with mobster turned sometime. FBI informant turned mobster again. Feel acceder right after manafort. A four moved into trump tower in two thousand. Six right after Alexander Litvinenko the Russian dissident and former intelligence member was poisoned to death in the UK. Okay also in two thousand six. That was a case that Christopher Steele in his capacity as an intelligence officer was examining and this was also right when vodka in Don Jr.. We're getting more involved. In trump family real estate money laundering schemes most notably trump tower. Soho for which she and Don Jr. ear where nearly indited for Felony Fraud in two thousand twelve until their family lawyer gave a hefty donation to the campaign of Sivan's who was overseeing the a case. That's a lot of information but I want to know what exactly was going on here. You know there are a lot of theories out there The main one that seems plausible commute each possibly trying to honey trap each other that if steel is investigating the KGB the Russian mafia their incursion into the western states the trump family would be of interest they were just in the Kremlin. Ivanka was just spinning around. In Putin's chair I mean that's an actual thing that happened. They they were working with Mafia affiliated actors like Felix Cedar. Meanwhile Ivanka would be interested in steel she would be interested in compromising him. Ivanka is not this. Innocent actor or the sideline character that people like to portray her as she and jared have been central to crime family activity from the beginning and she was trained to continue to carry out this operation. As I've said many times this is the pattern of kleptocracy is to put the family into executive power. You put the family in the business you put the family in office it. It keeps the money flowing and you also use your younger family members. The ones who are more amenable to the media to gloss over what is a criminal endeavor at that time time. That's what the apprentice was doing. That is what Ivanka was doing on the apprentice. She was an assistant with no particular role much as she's an assistant with no particular role all in the White House and her real role is to gloss over these trump crime family endeavors. And she's now I think failing at that but it certainly worked back in two thousand sixteen twenty seventeen the media blew off this threat anyway. What are your thoughts on this relationship? Vonk trump like you said. She's very much which involved in this crime family. She's a pillar of it. She's the the favorite child as we know The endgame of this is to make vodka trump trump the first woman president using the same coalition of corruption. That's Dole the election originally for her father so it with Donald Trump does step down. Eventually I think they're going to pull all the punches out to steal this next one because they need to. So he doesn't get indicted and throw prison and the Kremlin aides to avoid sanctions so the stakes have never been higher for them and Laverov RAV visiting trump. This week is very much a strategy session to that. You know certainly in that direction without question because the impeachment a crisis for the trump crime family is heating up. Public opinion is changing this is excellent. TV everybody loves a good crime drama and that is what as we always said from the beginning being. That's why we need impeachment hearings because everyone loves a good crime drama but vodka trump the fact that she's always escaped accountability and she doesn't get the same scrutiny. I mean she was running being the transition team which Mike Flynn said. The trump transition team told him to reach out to the Russian ambassador. Mike Flynn gets into criminal liability there but Ivanka trump doesn't even though she's the leader so there's some weird Misogyny at play where Yvonne could trump being the right kind of woman right. She has that non-threatening little kitten hitting tone of voice. She wears high heels. She dresses like a Barbie. She basically has trained herself to always appear a certain way very clearly to win her father's approval and affection. She's always seen as the operator that has her father wrapped around her finger And she very much lives by the trump rand. I read somewhere that when on her parents were divorcing. Ivanka was really crying distraught over whether or not that meant she should have to lose the trump last name. She's her father's daughter. She's it's all about branding. I I think in one of her ghost written books. There's a line about how perception is stronger than truth. That's how the operate they're just a house of cards..

"We're putting out. There isn't a fringe opinion. This idea that we should continue investigating investigating continue holding hearings in the House and not immediately passed these articles to the Senate John. Dean for example has said the same thing because the goal all should be transparency. The goal should be rooting out corruption. The goal should be preserving election integrity. It should be delivering the truth the full truth to the American doc in public because they deserve it. You deserve the truth you know don't settle for crumbs. There's this mentality now. Because the public has been relentlessly abused by the trump administration and to some extent much lesser extent but still by the Democrats who have played down a lot of these atrocities who have refused to follow through on investigations who've been apathetic to a lot of human suffering particularly that of migrant children on the border and other crimes against humanity people are exhausted people are battered down and when that mentality sets in a lot of bad things happen you see. Colts emerged urge personality. Cults you see Save Your Syndrome emerge where you're just waiting for someone to swoop in and rescue you and you also see mentality of settling of settling for less us than you deserve but don't subtle subtle the score. That is what we need to do as a country. All right and you talk about manafort yet this. I always want to doc. I will sum up briefly. What happened yesterday big day so there are certain topics that we always come back to the show and one of the main ones is crime machine? Jean Paul Manafort and not just because he is obsessed with Andrea sister. Who is Alexandra Chalupa for the Bro Journalists Listening to the program so Manafort Manafort is at the heart of the criminal hijacking of American democracy and we urge you to listen to the earliest gasoline nation episodes from two thousand eighteen when we discuss our or mutual horror back in two thousand sixteen? That manafort was selected as trump's campaign manager and this is part of what drew Andre Together and sew Monday was I know it's very very romantic. My name was a significant day because what we have long asserted on gasoline nation was confirmed by the new report by the Inspector General for the DOJ which is that Manafort was under FBI investigation. Not only in July twenty sixteen as has been publicly stated needed but before he became trump's campaign manager in the spring of two thousand sixteen. This is not surprising as Manafort's dirty deeds date back decades but it does yet again. Raise the question of why the F. B. I.. Allowed a compromised money launderer to run a campaign for trump. Who is himself? A Mafia Africa and Kremlin associate thus enabling both of them access to classified intelligence and a road to executive power that puts the very sovereignty cindy of our country in jeopardy so Andrea. What are your thoughts on that? All of this was in the public domain. And I just don't understand why hi the FBI. Like where was James. Combs press conference on the fact that the FBI was investigating Donald Trump's campaign chairman for money laundering tax evasion. And why was he going after. Hillary Clinton who smartly had her own private server because the United States government was getting deeply hacked by authoritarian. Teheran regimes like China and Russia and their which was a major national security breach so hillary Clinton was vindicated with her private server and yet had James Comey with his documented. Misogyny called her out on this and yet refused to inform the American public. that a Kremlin operatives who was under investigation for money laundering tax evasion was was managing the campaign of a man that was getting closer and closer to winning the White House. The ridiculous thing is just all of this news. That's been coming out since we've launched the show. We are demanding with every episode of gasoline nation. That there needs needs to be an investigation of how American intelligence agencies let it get to this point in the first place because if you were relying lying on the American people to save the day the ballot box in two thousand sixteen. Then why did you not take into account that there was a sweeping PSI diop's campaign being waged against the American people. When all of this was going on you had in the Brexit vote for instance Brexit was the warning? Shot that the Kremlin fired the Kremlin had one hundred and fifty thousand twitter accounts driving the Brexit. Vote helping tip the scales in that corrupted brexit. Vote look at what what's going on in in the US you had militarize propaganda from Cambridge Analytica and on top of that manafort partner Rick Gates he brought in a science organization. This this was all going on. When American intelligence agencies apparently thought that the the American voters would save the day and they didn't have to do anything they could just succumb to their own misogyny and arrogance thinking that they could attack Hillary Clinton relentlessly and try to humiliate her during two thousand sixteen? Meanwhile right in front of their faces in plain sight site to promote his book ahead of its launch. You had this massive sweeping criminal operation that was relying on new technologies like militarized propaganda across all social media media channels that American companies launched. This was a massive intelligence failure. If we somehow avoid deepening this essential threat of of where we are now. And with the Democrat winning the White House and twenty twenty that Democratic president that administration must must must order an investigation into how US US intelligence agencies failed so badly against metaphor and Putin's operation to bring their asset to power in two thousand sixteen is stealing this election Senate and subverting our democracy yes absolutely and it's frustrating to me that within the candidates in all of the debates and discussions around this race. We're not not seeing discussion of this in forthright terms. I think Warren is the closest when she talks about corruption when she talks about Kleptocracy and in our relationships with other authoritarian states who are not only hostile to their own people but who have hijacked our own democracy and pose a danger in that respect act but there should be if we're not going to get hearings on this which apparently some of the Democrats don't WanNa do think some do want to do that. So hopefully they'll still go in that direction but if we're not going to get hearings. We need debate. We need answers. We need to remove this sort of untouchability of the intelligence community. It is clear there are fractures within it. It's clear that there is an enormous fracture within the FBI in two thousand sixteen where you saw. Experts on the Russian mafia people like like Lisa page doing their job trying to save this country and immediately are purged after and then you have operators like Komi talking out of both sides of their mouth and then you have what appears like a contingent linked to Rudy Giuliani. Who are helping move? This long helping trump ascension to power through through illicit means. And then if you look at that historically you see a number of former FBI directors including Louis Freeh and William sessions who went on to represent the Russian mafia and the main Russian mobster to whom they are connected is Semyon mcgilla bitch whose name POPs up over and over again. He is linked to do the criminal. Maxwell Family d'alene Maxwell who was Epstein partner like there is a network here there is as I've said a billion times a transnational it crime syndicate and it is not only infiltrated and influenced our own government but other governments around the world has just said with Brexit and people. Just keep deep beating around the Bush with this. I think some of it is. They're frightened. I think many people are threatened. I think it's incredibly overwhelming and confusing and believe of me. I have sympathy for everybody trying to tackle it because we have on the show and also independently for years and there is so much I do have a book coming out in in April. Twenty twenty called hiding in plain sight. It is a sliver of what is out there you know. It's an overview of the last forty years but honestly we need an encyclopedia. Hiya of crime like we need like you know books that show up once a month like dealing with each participant that is the extent of this network and the magnitude of their crimes. Like imagine if you had an entire book just about Manafort and everything that you know all the shit you got up in over the last forty years like it's immense. It is very frustrating frustrating and of course it's frustrating as you just said before that this was in the public domain your sister was the canary in the coal. Mine going out and telling everybody. Hey Hey Paul. MANAFORT is the Kremlin operative and a mafia associate perhaps shouldn't be running a presidential campaign and instead was targeted did herself and not protected and dismissed and this is just an ongoing pattern and while honestly I was frustrated back in two thousand sixteen that so few seem to should be catching on to this but it was new. It was an unprecedented crisis for our country but it is three years later we have had hearings. We have had had expert testimony. We've even had people from the inside. People like Michael Cohen who are involved in the crime. Come out and tell everybody like yeah guys like it's the mafia and you know what what else trump's not going to step down in two thousand twenty maybe get prepared for that. You don't hear forthright discussion about this. Almost anywhere you get maybe a few soundbites. Yes and that just does an enormous service to the American public because again this is about the public this is not about institutions and this is not about individuals also at least in terms of preserving their greatness. You need to earn the People's trust so Put up or step down. If you're wondering how we got got to this point how. Ivanka trump and jared Kushner are the de facto President United States how this assembly of autocrats consolidating pollinating their power and basically trying to live above any accountability from Erta one to Putin and so forth. We got here because simply put Savior Syndrome. If if things are really that bad somebody must be doing something about it and a really great sort of case study. That should've warned us. That could have gotten this bad with a Russian mafia acid in the White House. Is the story of Harry. macropoulos a forensic accountant. Who tried to warn anyone who would listen that? Bernie Madoff Bernie madoff one of the wizards of wall. Street's when most powerful men on Wall Street was a giant Ponzi scheme no one would would take Harry more Coppola's seriously and he was somebody that was incredibly passionate very much in the weeds in pulling together. Yeah they're all this information and and he had all this damming information and the numbers don't add up and and Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme but to say Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme is to say that Donald Trump is a Russian mafia asset and twenty. Sixteen people about that. You are crazy people about that. Your conspiracy theorist this is just another cautionary tale. That if Bernie made off is really a Ponzi scheme certainly somebody somewhere would be doing something about it certainly the SEC or the US government or somebody would step in and stop this. This shouldn't be on little Harry Markopoulo. A father of three and just a forensic accountant all beyond him to stop greatest Ponzi schemes in human history. No and so. That's what this comes down to is. The world is being destroyed because everyone just assumes that somebody else's saving it that's why Andrea and I are always encouraging you stand up for yourselves. Stand up for each other as Andre always says find your community build an activist service movement. No one is coming. There isn't going to be a magical fix even if by some miracle say trump is impeached. Any is removed you're still still dealing with the GOP. The packing of the courts the entrenched corruption the purging of agencies the gutting of institutions that we need like the State Department Department. You're still dealing with the Kremlin you're dealing with Saudi Arabia. You're dealing with this Trans National Crime Network. These are enormous problems and then add on top of those income inequality quality hoarding of wealth by Leeds. Job Loss all the social ills that we live with every day. And we shouldn't have to. You know if you need motivation. Asian you know. Look at kids. Look at the world that they've grown up in look at how they see this as just normal daily life and to some extent. I'm kind of glad that kids don't have this Savior Syndrome. I'm glad that you know when I talked to children not just mine. I'm not trying to work my own children but honestly when I talked to kids they see a lot of issues where clearly they see. Climate change more clearly and they see that trump is a lunatic more clearly. They're not saying he's going to pivot. They're not saying there must be a secret plan. They're like Holy Shit like that guy is obviously nuts like at the least he's not in his right mind and so oh you know my hope for the future to some degree lies on people. Adopting the clarity of mind that you'll find in a child or a teenager who isn't isn't sentimental who doesn't have false expectations and who often isn't afraid because they don't know enough to be afraid but it is our job as adults to protect. Act these kids to protect the future. The future is an endangered commodity. And it's up to us to try to preserve it and that's why we bother with with this like we don't bother with this show or all the things we do because we think all hope is lost and that we are doomed it is the opposite. We are persevering and we're persisting in are oftentimes annoying to some people commitment. She bringing the truth to the public and to digging deep into everybody's corruption into everybody's sins against this country and trying to make them right because you can't fix problems that you won't expose. I WANNA walk through so in in lead up to Christopher Steele I g report that just came out. I WANNA walk through. Just to sorta hit home for everybody. The public domain richness of Paul Manafort crimes. There it is out there there for anybody to write about yell about is want to walk through. That's significant because this was this just underlines that this was in the public domain and you my sister's being hounded by Republicans relentlessly. They're they're terrorizing her. They're trying to equate her as you've always say that. She some deep state operatives like how the Hell Did she know that Paul Manafort was such a bad guy will look at my Tam tweet from December for twenty thirteen. But you keep it here. When is it that they do the twilight zone marathon is that on Christmas day or is that Thanksgiving Day that they'd be the twilight zone marathon. Right, whichever. It is we're doing like our own version of that here. It's our thanksgiving eve. Larry O'Connor, a Thon. Because we are now in the second hour of our six hour marathon broadcasting said that will be sitting in for the great one today. Mark Levin starting at six PM. So. Either telling you that is if you need to remind you to keep it here. I mean, we know that you keep it here. After my program. I've been listening to Mark Levin. Anyway. So keep it here. And we will continue our conversation here on thanksgiving. Either. Plenty to talk about in in the Levin show. I wanted to play for you, something that was fascinating. You know? This whole thing Ivanka the whole Ivanka Trump Email thing, which is not even close to the Hilary Clinton Email scandal in a multitude of different ways that we discuss that yesterday the president himself laid it up there yesterday. I know you've heard plenty of other hosts, frankly making that case, but I want you to hear what happened last night on the Stephen Colbert show now, Stephen Colbert had Ben Sasse spent says Senator from Nebraska a never-trumper, but he's got a book, and and he's never Trump. And so he's a Republican Senator who's welcome on the Stephen Colbert show and listen to this line of questioning its listen to how aggressive Stephen Colbert here is Trump. It's been discovered was using her private Email server and her personal Email for government business in two thousand sixteen you call Hillary's emails, by the way. I don't know if. That's entirely accurate because my understanding is that these emails were only before during the transition period. I don't I don't this is because she wasn't a federal employee yet. She didn't have a White House dot gov. So technically, she was not doing government business technically, she was doing transition because I could be wrong about that. But my understanding is that's what this situation is. But, but that's okay. Stephen Colbert, never let the facts get in the way of a partisan argument. You're trying to make serious matter. The by the way. Isn't it funny that I'm treating this guy like he's some sort of a high end political journalist or inquisitor like he's Chuck Todd doing meet the press, or I just said, you know, never never let the facts get in the way of making a political point. He's a comedian. He's doing a late night comedy variety show. Serves are serious attention same same here. So secretary Clinton was using classic music classified information on a private server that she denied having. I don't know what kind of Email originally. Information on there. Listen to that listen to the interruption and the data that. That wasn't true. Trunks have Ivanka Trump has classified information on a private server. It's a big deal. I don't know any of the details. That would we find out? How would we find out if she did that and listen to this? And by the way, did you just hear Stephen Colbert? I don't think he's ever admitted this, and that's going to take off Hillary Clinton and the Democrats win Ben Sasse said she had a classified information on the server, Stephen Colbert, just said, yeah. Yeah. That's right. Has he ever admitted that his he ever actually conceded that point up until now because the party line is that she didn't. We should know all that. We can know. Seriously, really, well, I don't know the particulars of this story out the particulars of this story today..

"Have obviously a lot to cover as always the updates California fire. It's worse. The campfire now killed seventy nine confirmed seven hundred still missing Wolsey fire. Remember, there was only a couple of a hundred and fifty homes that were destroyed now it's fifteen hundred homes and businesses with three dead. All right and shooting in Chicago at a hospital, and you have three dead and the gunman who is not considered a human being at least in my world. Also, dad and good for them to say there are x number dead. And then separate the Godman and not putting it into the same category. That's fairly new and good for them for doing that. Okay. Now. Ivanka Trump, and the Trump administration is now caught up in Email scandal of its own and not start as clear Hillary like, but it's a mess. I look at this as pretty technical stuff. But the law is very very clear on this. So two things are not going to happen. Number one. Is you will not see the next Trump rally people in the audience, referring to Ivanka Trump in screaming walk her up. Walk her up that probably will not happen. And the other thing is how far does this go? So it turns out that he vodka Trump last year and hundreds of emails to White House. Aides cabinet officials her assistance on a personal account in violation of federal records rules because as we found out during the Hillary scandal the Email scandal you have to separate out. Personal emails and governmental emails, and if there is something official. It has to be done through an official Email server officials server that set up by the government, you cannot do it on your own and people tend to mix it up and that is the problem. And so she violated those rules. It looks like and this is federal records rules in terms of keeping records and this gets really wonky. And this all happened when ethics house officials or ethics officials White House learned of Ivanka Trump's repeated use of personal E mail, and the reason they got hold of it is because there was a public records lawsuit by one of the civil rights organizations out there, and it was gathered last fall five cabinet agencies were involved and during the course of that review that throughout. Much of two thousand seventeen she often discussed or relayed a official White House business using a private Email account with a domain name, by the way that she shares with her husband, Jared Kushner, so this is a little bit complicated. But the bottom line clear violation the bottom line. The thing is going to happen. And her argument was she was not familiar with some of the details of the rules. And also during the course of the campaign, she could send any emails on any server because there was no official government E mail policy as to the campaign until her dad became president. And she was brought in as a White House official. And therefore as a member of the government. She now has to follow all of the rules. No matter how wonky they are. So while was transitioning into the government after she was given an official account. But until the White House provided her with the same guidance. They have given others who started before she did, according to her she sometimes use for personal account, and almost always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family, and there is a difference here because she said this happens to be just logistics. There were no state secrets was classified information. Unlike Hillary who claimed there was no classified information in the FBI found one hundred ten emails that dealt specifically with classified information on her private easily Hackel server and Hillary just like just said no now it could be that. She didn't know no one buys that. It could be that. She was at best. She was incredibly negligent at best. She was just negligent and stupid about that. And when you're a kid when you're campaigning for the president. Can't do that stuff. It's just that simple. Also, there were thirty thousand emails that were eliminated during the course of the investigation after the investigation was announced thirty thousand pieces of Email gone. So very very different animal and Hillary wasn't nailed for at all. Even though she clearly violated the law in never went anyplace other than she lost the presidency, and that may be enough. And certainly I don't think the Justice department went after even the Trump administration could have I think gone after her and decided not to because why why we hash all that what he's still running against Hillary. And I think if he had his choice would go after her he was send the Justice department after her. And I think he's adviser say, you know, what come on calm down alma call. All right coming up emergency evacuations. There's a world to that one. After the campfire and the evacuation order was not given to enough people quickly enough. Of course, the entire issue of -mergency evacuation orders or emergency. E evacuate alert. That's come up, and that's a complicated. One man. There are two sides to that one. And I'll share that with you. All right. Let's check in with Jennifer Jones Lee with a news update. LA county sheriff Jim McDonald's says he's hopeful and optimistic even though his challenger is fifty thousand votes ahead retired sheriff's Lieutenant Alex v in a way that has claimed victory. But McDonald told ABC seventieth waiting to see how the remaining four hundred twenty two thousand unaccounted votes turnout, women's requested a domestic violence restraining order against lawyer Michael avenue avenue debased in OC is best known for representing.

"Well, I think we already know that there are charges against Assange. And I don't believe he's going to stay in the Ecuadorian embassy in London for the remainder of his days. And once he leaves that embassy, I think then he's going to be subject to some type of rest attention and the United States certainly has extradition arrangements with the United Kingdom. So I do think he's going to be charged in some venue. Whether it's the United States is somewhere else. But I think this is a pretty good chance. So Ecuador has a big decision to make here to kick them out of the town house. Yes, they do. Yes. To do. Ivanka Trump her decision on emails was after we knew of Russian involvement or strongly suspected it in our politics is that a security risk in and of itself because her dad's certainly seemed to indicate that toward Hillary Clinton. Well, I don't know what was contained in the Email said about Trump reportedly had sent on her own personal Email account. Certainly the should not have been anything in there that was classified, but she shouldn't have been conducting business on her personal Email account that is one of the rules, and the guidance that the lawyers at the White House give to everybody as soon as they come in. But also, it was such a very topical issue throughout the campaign and after the inauguration that I find it hard to believe that she didn't understand the rules. It's not just not having your own personal server at your home. It is that because of the requirements law. That's a government officials need to conduct government business on ga. Government emails if you're the Russians do you target someone like that? No. Of course. Absolutely. You try to target everything that they do in terms of what they say. And the context they have the communications that they engage him and unclassified emails or vulnerable to being picked up by any number of entities. "Broke a story at about six thirty pm on the east coast tonight that if could Trump was busted using a personal Email account to send hundreds of emails about government business last year in violation of the rules. And with echoes of Hillary Clinton's Email us, Ivanka Trump also told sixty minutes after the election. She was just going to be a daughter. She wasn't going to take a role in the administration. So there has been a kind of a cascading. View of what she can do and it being above the rules are being above her own pledges as for Donald Trump, David and Carol take a listen to him in June twenty sixteen on this type of issue. To cover up a corrupt dealings Hillary illegally staged her State Department emails on a private server she's under investigation. But it seems like nothing's going to happen. Even though other people who have done similar things but much at a much lower level. Two lives have been destroyed. David will that apply to someone who's medium level? Like, Ivanka Trump next question. I don't think we'd be hearing Donald Trump anytime soon calling for an investigation of what happened with the vodka. Trump's email. I don't think we'll see any Senate Republicans calling about it. But guess what house? Democrats have something else now to add to their list of twenty that they wanted to do the past two years that the Republicans said no to certainly David and Carol stay with me on this breaking story, Carol in your piece you quote that there is a watchdog group called American oversight. That was part of the effort that even got these emails exposed in the first place and one of your sources there is Austin Evers he is called in and has joined us here on MSNBC's the beat by phone Austin. How did you think to pursue this? And what is your reaction to the news or original reason for submitting the foyer? Quest communications was driven by the fact that she was saying that she was not going to obey any ethics rules because she was an employee. We had the theory that well she's emailing with agencies. Maybe we can see if that was claimed about not being an employee not engaged in business proved through well. We ended up finding late last year was that she did use personal Email from time to time which we thought was hypocritical. What we didn't know until right now is that the scope or for use was pretty extensive, and that she engage in a process to review them that absolutely mimics what Hillary Clinton did and was subject to intensive criticism from her father among others. Carol. How 'bout that that some of this originated with the point that dovetails with the great Gatsby point that that you said your sources and David corn both thought of great minds or whatever which is that. There was a kind of an idea that vodka thought she could be a bubble kinds of rules from the get-go. Well, you know, I don't want to get inside of on Trump's mind except to say what people felt at the time when they were learning this inside the White House. It felt very awkward for them. And it must be awkward rate. She's the president daughter is going to really tell her what to do. But I will say this RAM that is that she insurnace to her..

"To the tensions in the west wing before between the white house chief of staff and jared kushner his wife ivanka trump and that the raw porter instance so explain what's happening in the west wing well i won't had before um there's been some degree it hasn't for many months now um between john kelly and jared kushner and ivanka trump just based in on the fact that he is trying to bring some level of process in order to the white house and that by necessity means cutting out um the opportunities that people have to kinda get in the president's ear to get in his office in whisper uh to him about issues that may be before him uh they're outside of the kind of process at the white house chief of staff should be directing that and he's he's really tried to to limit the the group of people including uh jared kushner who can just kind of flowed into the oval office and start having a conversation shen with president trump to that kind of a natural tension but this has stepped up more um intensely in recent days after the porter incident um uh jared kushner and ivanka trump have not been happy with the way that the incident was handled both on the front end in terms of him being allowed to keep the pay his post while these allegations were out there and nobody senior seemed to have known including mr kelly or at least no one will admit to having known um and then on the back end in terms of just the public relations aspect of it i think they have felt that this has been at the white house was caught very flatfooted and um that you know the president has been impacted by it in a negative way and they blamed kelly.

"Yeah i actually would make the case that it may be easier to control the process with the president halfway around the world and part of the reason why is that he's left a couple of his key negotiators are folks are working the you know the back channels on this behind these left caricom behind even the ivanka trump has been dispatched to make more of the public case about a um you know got mark short in these ledge guys you know mick mulvaney a budget uh they they have stay behind of course to work on this as well so the the challenge in many ways mirrors with the challenge was for the affordable care act which was does the present have any core line in the sand kinda ideologies that he will not change his mind about and not say great plan and then say was a mean bill later you know like will he does he know what he wants and will he stick with it and you have really different house and senate versions even though they get to roughly the same price tag issue look at some of these differences the senate wants to delay by year of the implementation of that corporate tax cut down a twenty percent but part of the white house his whole argument for how to sell this plan the corporate part of it how gary cohn is talked about it is that the immediate in infusion of that reduction for for corporations would help spur economic growth which would in turn help generate the revenue to help pay for the tax bill so what do you do about that on the state and local deduction their differences between the house and senate version even the percentage on the top tax rate offer the highest earners is different in the two bills all these kind of deep dive things like non qualified of you know deferred compensation plans and that sort of thing and so you've got the prospect for house bill may be passing in the next week or two uh possibly the senate being able to pass its own version but when you get down to the part that matters which is the conference if if we even get that far at that point the the president's.

"Number of aids and outside visitors who can simply wander ren now you want to hear something really shocking ivanka trump and jared kushner have both agreed to follow the rules of john kelly now this is huge because if kushner and ivanka trump will respect the authority of john kelly while than everybody else has to fall in line two of aachen trump trumpet jared kushner actually going to report to john kelly now how long is going to last when guy says one person close to kelley said of the uphill battle he faces in monitoring access to the president old habits die hard but i am confident john kelly can kill them and i think the president understands what's been going on within his administration let's face it he's been talking about on the dubin leaks of course of president trump saying that rights priebus was weak weak week that was the big joke in the white house is their rights priebus was week president trump wants brought him into the oval office to talk policy now to talk about staffing no reports that president trump brought rights priebus into the oval office to kill a fly not enough that's true or not but that story made the rounds a couple of days ago while clearly general kelly is not week by any stretch of the imagination kelly has told associates that he believes it is his responsibility to straighten this out meaning the trump administration and that he would not have taken the chief of staff job if he had not received the authority to make tough decisions according to an outside adviser to the white house who has spoken directly to kelley remember what i said last night this could be the moment that president trump rebounds he's brought a disciplinarian into the white house and so on the one hand the president says you know john kelly you are in charge this guy scare mucci he's gone spicer gone scaramucci gone and i've got john kelly and so i think that trump is going to yes he's going to continue to tweet but i think the president understands that he needs to do something because right now what he's doing quite frankly friends is not working and i am a trump supporter and it has been a very difficult couple of months for yours truly because i've seen the president make mistake after mistake so i applaud this i really do.
