"Well, I just think I have a little bit of in defense of why I didn't necessarily have her as one of my 52 aces in 5 matches in Lyon. That is great, but I mean, as we've talked about before, you've got to have a bit more game than that as well. And I think she does definitely have that. But I think the interesting to see how she moves into some of those bigger drawers because quite a lot of her ranking is based on she talked about herself. She's been in the final over 60 K last year now. She's winning at two 50 and she did pick up a couple of those December WTA one two 5s in France as well. So I think it will be interesting to see what she can do, as you say, add a bigger tournament. But her second server kick a second serve is probably one of the best second serves on the tour. So I will give you that Joel. I'm winning over Chris, but it feels like I'm so we've still got to take time. He's not going to take it on. This is just this one tournament. No, and I'd be a lot of parallels for people talking about her and Serena Williams and all of that, but perhaps we shouldn't go to go to mad early on. Yeah, she's won one title. But with an upset in that final, but we don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but you too can continue fighting over the illicit parks hype, maybe going forward to the rest of the season. Let's look at the ATP events from the past week on tour. We have the Dallas open to talk about first of all because and actually Joel and Chris, you mentioned this earlier in relation to whole gurus, comments about serve bots, we had one of those in the Dallas open final. John Isner. And he was up against Wu Yi Bing, who actually managed to beat him, but what was perhaps not so surprising was the fact that it was three tie breaks that with Wu managing to come through to defeat Isner. 6, 7, 7, 6, 7, 6. The last I break was perhaps the most exciting one of all 1412 and four match points saved for Wu. Chris, whoo is now the first Chinese man to ever have won an ATP tour title. Do you think this is a very significant moment for China as a tennis playing nation on the ATP side of events given the result we saw in Dallas? I think it's really significant. I think it's something that's really important for the tour as well. I think obviously the ATP have continued relations with China and there will be tournaments played in China this year and we know that there's been some really big attention for players like Lena in the past when it comes to the women's side of things. So I think there's always been that question as to why there hasn't been a male player from China who's been able to perform like this and having a player who's on the younger end of the spectrum I think is also very exciting and as you said, I'm very always pleased when someone who we would consider to be potentially a serve but gets their comeuppance in a final because you think you have to work that much harder but I don't think John is no, I was quite surprised. I don't think John Isner should be winning titles on the ATP tour I was surprised to see this result personally that he was in the final, but no, it's a breath of fresh air I think a new Titleist from the first time someone's done that I think mighty impressive. So I say woohoo. I like that. Yeah, it's crazy because his ranking was, I think, in the over 1000 last year, he's had a lot of injuries in his career up to date. So I hadn't really played for about three years prior to last year. But Joel, what did you make of whoo? Because he beat Taylor Fritz and Denis Shapovalov earlier on in the tournament. So great, great wins there for him. Yeah, he's had a fantastic week. As you said, he's been, I think, plagued by injuries over the last few years. I watched a clip of him against Nishikori mountain in Asia a few years ago and it's great, I think, to see him now fulfilling on that potential and that promise and yeah, he was he was so good I think in the final game. Another player coming up against a home hope, home resident, I think, in John Isner and although yeah, I was probably a surprise of which America was going to get to the final given we've spoken about how many Americans are in the top 50. I wouldn't have put John is a necessarily at the top of that list, but it just shows, I think, with a big serve, it can still take you places regardless of if you're perceived to be to be getting on a bit, but I think for whoo, this is an incredibly exciting moment and assuming or hoping for his sake that he can keep his he can keep himself healthy. I have no reason to see why he can't continue to go up the rankings because I think he's got a very, very solid game and could be a big moment for Chinese tennis. I mean, they've got Qing Wang Jiang as well on the women's side. So it seems that they've got two great talents coming up in the game that could really shed a more positive light I think on Chinese tennis because I

"Because we cave membrane likes to be safe. It doesn't want to get out of its comfort zone. I will tell you that I spent a whole year learning how to be comfortable being uncomfortable. And there is no place that I can go or do that's not going to make me feel comfortable being in an uncomfortable position. Most of us are not willing to put ourselves in uncomfortableness. And yet that's where growth happens. Best book I read by Jesse Isner, living with a seal, if you want to learn how to feel. Yeah, living with a CL. If you want to learn how to get comfortable being uncomfortable, great book. About how to do that. And it made me laugh out loud. Really? Yeah. Great book. And as I said, growing, you got to grow, or you're going to die. So growing is important, growing is challenging. And you can get uncomfortable and growing. And sometimes you have to have some courageous conversations with people. And the fact is that once you do all of that and you don't die, your cave member goes, okay, we can do this. Let's move forward. Well, I got to tell you, I mean, I love this conversation. And I've had so many little ahas while having it. I am forever grateful. And speaking of books, so will you tell the listeners how they can find you how they can get your book, you know, all that stuff? Yep. So it's very simple.

"I mean, it is incredible, obviously we know this about Murray, but that he's willing to put himself out there in this way, he's just so dedicated. And you know, a lot of people would be like, this is massively beneath me. I'm a three time Grand Slam champion, legend of the sport, Hall of Famer. But there he is, you know, slugging it out. I mean, you know, and he may clearly, it would be of a great benefit to him to be seated in the slams, no guarantee, you know, you can still get some pretty horrible stuff still get maximum Crecy. Exactly. God, that really does get something that you see, and then gets a draw like that in the first round, just be like, this is not Dominic team. Yeah, I mean, I hope he does. And he's had some tough drawers. He's had some ones that I, you know, I think there is still there have been some drawers that he'd be annoyed with himself. I think he's probably still annoyed about losing to John Isner at Wimbledon. Exactly. I can imagine he's still going to face a fury about that. Like he did the champions for Argentina is center court centenary celebration. We still looked curious. Still coming to terms with that. And you know, you're going to get a draw, even if you're seated, you'll get a draw like John Isner in the third round rather than the second round. It's not, it doesn't insulate you massively. But you know, you can only applaud him for that dedication. And especially for him, I do always wonder what he must, you know, him and Djokovic were neck and neck for so much of their careers and then now Murray is scrabbling around trying to get himself seeded at a time where Djokovic has just won his 21st Grand Slam and his in that conversation. You know, like they were on a very similar path for a long, long time. Few other bits of news developments over the course of the last couple of weeks we've had the pretty excellent news really

"I didn't know anything about it 'cause I couldn't watch the coverage the state I was it. It feels a long time ago now, doesn't it? So that is the fortune cookie. Spontaneous segment of the podcast over with. We were just just about got away with that. We were wondering how to start the show, weren't we? On the way home. What's the lead story? I've got nowhere to go now, so should we stay in British territory and incentive court territory and cover Andy Murray? Lost today to John Isner in four sets. Isner went two sets to love up. Murray fought back and won the third on the tiebreak, and I think at that point, everybody certainly I mean, David and I was sat on henman hill watching this and, you know, maybe you're somewhat swayed by the atmosphere, you know, the feverish Murray atmosphere that you're in, but at that point I was going to send a message to the group, didn't I say we're all going to be here at midnight, you know, it's obviously going to be a Murray comeback. I thought once he got a foothold in that match, especially since, you know, physically, John Isner had looked like a reanimated corpse since midway through sat one. I thought that was it. I thought the Murray combat was on and it would only gather pace. But that's forgetting the power of John Isner, isn't it? And you know, it might not be everyone's favorite style of play, but my goodness me when he's serving like that, it's the combination of serving like that and playing big points well because there'll be one or two opportunities in a set on the John is a servant. You both know that when you step onto the court and is the nose, he's got to play those points well. You know, breakpoint down second serve and he pulled some stuff out the bag tonight, didn't he on those big points and I'm really torn about how to view this one because I really think pretty much anyone can lose to Johnny's and Ron grass when he's serving at 81% for besties played in years, I was saying. For those two sets, he was serving at 80% and I'm not sure that's playable for anyone and yet married never lost to his no. Before today and that's part of it, isn't it, Mary said in the press conference? Exactly that. It's one or two points. It's difficult to make big projections about his prospects based on just this match alone because it's such a one off against Isner and the margins are so, so small. And yet, Mary's paid is no 8 times before this, and always, without exception, being able to win those one or two points. And those matches would have been the same against Isner, because it's always like that. Look, Isner was amazing today. He really, really was. But Andy Murray at his best wins that match. I really do think that Marriott is best finds a way to get returns back, ship away Isner and conjure up his best tennis on those biggest points, even if it's now a lot of the time is taking the racket out of Mary's hands, Mary can do things to make is no uncomfortable when he's at his best. And just wasn't quite able to do that. Some similarities to what we saw with Serena last night in a way in that just that very fine tuned match. Winning moments, you know, weren't there for them. The natural instincts. Yeah, and the irresistible force of a champion. That intangible X Factor, what Greg likes to call it. Indeed. By the way, I didn't see any of the first two sets. But I joined it. I joined it for the best bit. I went into the press seats just with the last three games of that third set, which Murray won. That is the loudest noise I have heard in Santa Claus, I think. I can't remember here in the louder noise than that. And because Murray was just ramping it up as well. He was connecting with everybody in the stadium. We turn around to different parts of the stadium. It wasn't just focusing on one like he did last year. This was him and everybody in it together and the people just felt so good in the stadium for that moment. And then I went and joined Catherine and math on him and yeah, the idea that henman wouldn't. The idea that Murray wouldn't then go and turn that into a victory would have felt preposterous at that point and I think that that just tells me how well isn't it to hold it on. And I actually think and Garcia were inspired today. I think playing in center court against the home favorites. Maybe that takes a bit of the stress away because the pressure's not. Nobody's really looking at you, are they? And I do think, you know, we weren't too delighted with the schedule today, where it was an incredibly center court heavy schedule. I think I'm perhaps a bit biased here because my brother and my dad were there today and they had sent a court one tickets rather that had been rolled over from 2020 and look, obviously there will be fans of the individual players that were on court one, but objectively speaking, it was an incredibly weak schedule, appeal wise, compared to center court and perhaps even compared to court two, frankly. And maybe the schedule who obviously would want RADA khanu and Murray to stay in stitch himself up a little bit by, you know, maybe it's a, I don't know, some sort of cautionary tale, but I agree. I think perhaps one or two those results might have been different had they not been on center court. And I think Garcia spoke about knowing what it felt like to be emerita khanate, because she's been in that situation as the home favorite on chatrier in Paris. And I think she used that experience a little bit to she knew what raducan who would be feeling out there. And yeah, as you said, she played the opposite role and played it brilliantly. Murray was furious, wasn't he when he came into press, came in pretty quickly. I was worried about asking him questions that look in his eyes, you know. He just looked like he was burst in for an argument with anybody. When he walked in. Yeah, actually, I mean, I think that's his post lost kind of mode, really. But he kind of settled a bit as it went he still had a face like thunder throughout. But by the time Catherine asked you asked him to questions and they really, they got him talking and there were a couple of others as well. And he, as you say, he was just so disappointed and your question to him was comparing how he feels now to how he felt after losing a year ago. I think he lost in the third round a year ago against shepherd valor, and that was a heavy defeat..

"John Isner and Diego Schwartzman teamed up in the doubles. They had a match point they lost to and pavic Isner is the first player ever to reach three ATP masters 1000 doubles finals with three different partners in the same year. He's also partnered Jack sock and Hubert her catch. They've played before, haven't they used an image for them. And I think the first time they played together everyone thought it was a joke. Just the funniest thing ever. But they're also quite a successful doubles team. I don't know, maybe it did start as a joke, and then they went, oh, actually. What the really good. They could still be very funny to look at. One bloke 6 foot ten and one bloke, what is he? 5 foot four. It's very Arnold Schwarzenegger. Vibes, isn't it? That's probably a film Matt isn't aware of. Do you know what I'm referring to Matt? Oh. Twins. This is, isn't it? The poster where they're like, wasn't one of them leaning on the other? Yes. I'm not seeing the film, but I'm aware of, it. I think you were too when it came out. Yeah, I mean, I didn't go see it at the cinema, but I watched it at some stage in my childhood. It was always on the telly, wasn't it? Always. Yeah. Danny DeVito, that they were twins, but Danny DeVito was sort of the genetic material left over from Arnold Schwarzenegger in the womb. That was the plot anyway. But anyway, it was meant to have won the doubles title yesterday, the men's doubles title, the women's doubles title, it was won by Anastasia pavlyuchenkova and Veronica could motto. They came from a set down to beat the Madrid champions, Gabriela dabrowski and Juliana olmos. Some other bits and bobs of news for you from this week. Out of Roland Garros, he actually announced this in quite a sort of positive post on his social media saying, look, my hand is healing. I'm back hitting balls again. My road to recovery is going well, but I've discussed with my team and they think going straight back in at best of 5 tennis is probably not smart. So I'm going to focus on on the grass and that seems very, very smart to me. And we like watching motorbike baritone grass, don't we? So that's 74 too. Yes, absolutely. And this wasn't surprising because as, as you say, is upbeat as that message was the most recent video I had seen of baritone, he was hitting with his left hand. That was like two days before. So I thought, okay, well, he's not playing. Very Dominic team vibes. And these two ended backhands. Is it? I don't know too much hope for his left hand. Andy Murray is not playing Roland Garros. Yesterday is 35th birthday or today. Yesterday. Yesterday. Yesterday, happy 35th birthday to Andy Murray. Yes, he won't be playing Roland Garros. They think it was I mean, that was the original announcement, wasn't it? I won't be playing clay this season, and it was Madrid Madrid with the blip. And he got two very good matches against two top players, didn't he and was unlucky not to be able to play Djokovic, but I think he got what he needed from Madrid and I suspect we'll see him playing a grass court event second week of Roland Garros. That's when Serbian is, isn't it? I suspect I reckon we're going to see him pop up on grass. Wheat tea, the French Open. That's my prediction. Like when he played, where was it? He was playing in Majorca. I wasn't he when the U.S. open was. Oh yes. Beat norbert gombos. Who ironically is the player that's got into the French Open main draw as a result of Andy Murray's. Withdrawal. There you go. Gem's life are having a baby in October. Lovely. Baby girl. Oh. I think? Have I made that up? Yes, they did say that. They did say that. Yes. Lovely news. I'm very glad they didn't. One of my pet hates in life, it really creeps me out when people announce their pregnancy and tell you what the baby is called. While it's still a fetus, they say, baby Melissa coming in October, freaks me out. I'm very glad they didn't do that. What if she comes and she doesn't look like a Melissa? What is a Melissa look like? What if you have a really bad experience with someone called Melissa in the next 5 months? You've announced it on Instagram now. You've stitched yourself right up. Change your mind. Anyway, I'm delighted for gem's life. Many congratulations to them. That is that's get more feast and alin is fitting for anybody not tennis Instagram literate. No mere soccer has left IMG to start her own agency evolve. She's taken her longtime agents, do good with her. This is a move that sort of all. Superstar, big players seem to perform at some point in their careers, Roger Federer did it, didn't he? Andy Murray's done it. Actually, Rafael Nadal hasn't done it, has he? He's stuck with IMG, but Maria Sharapova did it. Well, I think Carlos Costa, who worked for IMG basically moved on, I think. And kind of set up around him. So I'm not exactly sure what Nadal's arrangement is now. But I mean, even when I think right back to Pete Sampras, he was with a guy called Jeff Schwartz of IMG, and he went and left. IMG in this. So you're right. I mean, this has been going on ever since I've known about agents. Yeah, it's no massive surprise. Is it interesting to see if it sort of changes her direction of corporate travel? Gosh, that was the most boring thing I've ever said. Let's move on quickly. Laura Robson has announced her retirement from tennis today. It's difficult to know how to react to this because it's obviously no great surprise at all. I mean, she hasn't played a professional match for years. I don't think she's played one since the pandemic. David, you were recollecting earlier about her attempted a comeback in 2019, which was very short lived. I mean, her body just hasn't been able to stand professional sport for some time now. I mean, I've lost track of the numbers of pictures we've seen of her in a hospital bed, you know, heading into surgery..

"That sort of miracle of him winning that final from two sets down. I just still can't believe that actually happened. So I feel sort of comforted by the fact that we had such a fantastic result and start to the season. And yeah, it's struggling a bit now. But we live in hope. I just, you know, I don't like knowing that he's in pain is so you don't want anyone to be in pain, but these sports people elite level, they go through so much for their sport and he's not the only one that has chronic injuries that he's dealing with and we've seen this so many times in other sports and, you know, it's just, well, he's going to have his doctor with him in Paris. So, and he's going to give it his all. We know that. Get the magic spray on Kim, get the magic spray on. Tons and tons of painkillers, I think, is what he's already on. But yeah, it's going to have to hope that some secret got some tricks up his sleeve maybe, but we'll see how it goes in Paris. I mean, just a note on the doubles in Rome as well. We had a title for met kitchen package. They are back to winning ways as their first title of the season, actually. And they beat beat the isna man duo of John Isner and Diego Schwartzman, who paired up much to everyone's delight. Yeah, 1210 in the championship tie break. So maybe it proves that although they didn't quite win, having little and large together, obviously it's something almost a winning partnership. Maybe there'll be more height differences matching up soon. I mean, it was, you know, it was a really I watched that championship tie break and yeah, they had, I mean, they had opportunities to win it. It was a really entertaining match. I think a lot of us were looking at that pairing and just seeing it more for comedic value. We didn't actually think that we were going to go all the way through to the final, but they went and did that. They had a very good win I saw against cabal and Farah en route. Yeah, a little bit, I think disappointed they can get it done, but at the same time, the mec dich and pavic, a team who, yeah, they won 9 titles last season on the doubles circuit. And we're now in mid May and this was their first once. I think there'll be a little bit relieved going into the French Open that actually have a title in their locker, but yeah, for Isner and schwarzman came. Are you hoping to see this again? Because I feel like all the crowds want to see it. Do you think do you think that could be a do you think we'll see them at the French Open? Well, if they've got good chemistry and the crowd are loving them and they're having good results, then why on earth not? Certainly, you know, John is not usually a player that I sort of gravitate towards watching, but I'm more inclined to if he's paired up with someone like Diego Schwartzman in the double. So yeah, I think a big thing. Are we going to get more are we going to get more people taking inspiration from this? I'm expecting I'm seeing Riley appellate and Sebastian Baez teaming up. Are we going to see more height, big height differentials on the double circuit, do they? Yeah, quite possibly, if they've just got a come up with a catchy team name. I think they decided. So yeah, I don't know. You've got to have a catchy team name, but yeah, that was a good win for Mexican Babbage. I'm sure they'll be pleased that they've got a title and going into the French as well. Maybe they'll be looking to go deep there. But we do have obviously the women's side of things as well, which was, well, again, I think my prediction, I think your prediction as well, everyone's prediction came true. Winning yet another title, yet another masters 1000 title. So 5th title on the 28th victory on the trot as well. Coming through again in another final with the loss of just four games, 6 two 6 two over on jabar. I mean, what did you make of this? She was, again, just very convincing. She's just playing so well. I don't really have much more to say. Yeah, it was a great week, similar to Djokovic didn't drop a set was still handing out bakeries. Each good's bagels, breadsticks, you know, throughout the week. She was, you know, she was tested at a times. I feel like particularly against Azarenka in that first set. And then in that first set as well against andreescu, which went to a tie break really, really long set. But no one seems to be able to kind of live with her over two sets and keep up that consistency. And she's just running away with it at the moment. And in the final, again, it started very, very quickly for us. I really love how when she has got on court. She's all business and straight to the, you know, she's straight to it. And she's caught her opponents, I think, a little bit cold. And in the final, I think yes, there were sort of mitigating circumstances for Gibraltar, you know, she had a late she had the night match against cassi keener in the semifinal where she had to save match point. She came back from the near depths of defeat against Zachary as well in her quarterfinal. I think she was like 6 one 5 two down and she came through that second set 7 5 before running away with its 6 one in the decider. So I think by the time she had got to that final, I think she was potentially a little bit fatigued. She's played a full clay season she got to the midriff open final last week and won it. So she's played a lot of tennis and perhaps it caught up with her a little bit in the final, but at the same time she on tech was just playing some absolutely lights out tennis and although I think she bought that was that game. I think when she on tech was I think she was like 5 two up and there were moments where she on tech could have come out sorry at four love she on tech came back and could have got it to back on sir, but yeah she just two, too strong at the moment. Yeah, I think jabal had like three breakpoints to break back in that second video. Those were amazing points, by the way. But yeah, it wasn't able to do it and then from there it was kind of like, you know, routine, so I don't normally, you know, when players dominating people might think, oh, it's a bit boring, but I just think it's amazing what's shown text doing and I'm really enjoying it and I hope her streak lasts as long as possible because it's just, it's just lovely to see, isn't it? I think it's the fourth longest women's win streak since 2000..

"So both of them outside the top 200, so also both of the two lowest ranked finalists, I think since like four years ago as well. So I think ultimately, pogos unforced errors did her in. Aside from that, it was relatively, yeah, like you said, not the greatest quality, but Maria was the better player on the day just a bit unruly. But yeah, it's obviously nice when you get these kind of heroic stories qualifies coming through not Maria Camila sorio Serrano. She could only get to the semifinals in her in her home event, Joel. Well, we did have a hometown champion where a home country champion even so in the ATP Houston event, the two 50 out on the hard true red clay. I don't know what that means, but it looked elected distinct a distinct color that was different from what you typically expected the European glaciers. But yeah, we had the final of the bots Kim, battle of the bots, Riley up elka, John Isner and Riley Parker winning 6 three 7 6. I mean, I'm just surprised there was only one tie break. I thought it was just gonna be two tie breaks or maybe even three tide bakes, but no, Riley pelka came through and yet fourth ATP tour trophy, his first enclave and is a little stat for you. This was the tallest ATP tour final in the open era surprise surprise. A perk is 6 foot 11, John is the 6 foot ten. I mean, this was a, I mean, this was just quite funny. I just thought the fact that these two guys who I just feel like we are just associate them with banging downloads of serves on a grass court, going on to reach clay final and yeah, coming through. Just watching it, it genuinely sometimes feels like John Isner is playing a version of himself from 5 years ago or a slightly sort of quicker, faster version of himself and just ultimately think he just had a perk had just had the slight edge on Isner in all of the departments really and that's what and that's what led him to the title. Yeah, kind of serves is the right in a way, doesn't it? He's coming up with someone who does what he does, you know, just a little bit better. I was a bit younger sort of new version of self. And I mean, I am pleased that we only got one tie break in this final because I was like you fully expecting three, but actually we had 13 break points in this match. And 5 mini breaks in the second set tie break. So I think it does go to show that, well, maybe they are capable of returning well at some point until but yeah, it was perhaps a better final than many would have envisaged when we got this match up. On the ATP tour. Yeah, I mean, Kim, a perker had won their last four meetings. And their last 12 sets had been a 7 6 score line. So yeah, it was a little bit surprising to see, oh my God. 6 three first set. What's going on here? The world has changed. But yeah, nice, nice win for a pelka. I mean, his second serve in particular was absolutely massive throughout the week. It really must be one of the highest kicks as I feel I've ever seen on TV. To the point I would love to see him almost. I almost wish he had face like someone like a Diego Schwartzman. On the court, just to see how high that serve could get on him because it was just unbelievable at times. It was almost reaching, it was just going as high as where the crowd were watching from behind the court. But yeah, but yeah, you know, again, very, very good, very, very good, very, very good title win for him. I feel like the X axis that he does have over John is his movement around the court. I think we talk about that all the time, but whether you're bringing him into a net, putting him from side to side, he seems to be able to just get there with relative ease for a guy who is a guy who is so taller at 6 foot 11 and I think that really kind of helps him get set and choose the choose what he wants to do with next on the court. And he was looking very, very good throughout the week. He did also have to overcome Nick curios in the semifinals. Kim, I know you love talking about Nick curios on the pod and we're going to have to do it the same again because radio palka came through against curios 6 three 7 5 but there was a flash moment in the match 5 all second set. It was very tight and curios again got angry at an umpire. He thought a ball was out and there was no call and he was expecting an out call from the umpire and it essentially led to him losing his call and then ultimately getting a game penalty or sorry, a point penalty that lost him the game and that was essentially game set match a pelka. So yeah, more sort of Nick curios sort of doing well, getting to a semifinal on the clay court, which hasn't happened in years. But at the same time, being the old Nick curios that we know. And yeah, sort of mini implosion handing it to a poker feeling like maybe he's like searching for a way out because you feel like defeat was on the horizon. Yeah, I do to some extent I have a little bit of sympathy with Nick kyrgios here. What? Him? I know. Oh, am I saying? Because his issue here was that he really did think that that ball from a pelican was out and you know, you can't there's no Hawkeye on this obviously on the clay..

"WTA 1000 titles given that the form she is in and to be honest, not really seeing a lot. Apart from maybe Simona Halep elsewhere, you know, I feel like a few players maybe in the women's draw underperformed here. I know that I know the conditions and I know the environment I think probably had a reason to do with that, but certainly I think she's beyond tech of the big names. I feel like she was arguably maybe only along with Zachary that the tutor to live up to their billing the most. Maybe along with badosa as well. He got to the semifinals. Yeah. Potato reaching the semis as defending champion. She took it to three sets, but ultimately 6 one in that third set against Zachary, Zachary really got the better of per dosa, but also was really struggling to find her range and her first serve percentage was quite poor, apart from that second set where she upped it a bit, but yeah, I think a lot of the women like the likes of muguruza. The soccer for different reasons, like the crowd environment. It was quite disappointing from some of them, but you know, at the same time, full credit to their opponents who came through and beat them, but yeah, spontaneous definitely and hallett, I think, and saccharin really having a great week maximizing their games. And a nice for Zachary that she got to the final because she has this habit of sort of being a perennial semifinalist. She's reached 7 semis in her last ten tournaments. But you can tell it's not quite there yet and you do feel that someone like a shoe on tech will know how to ultimately know how to exploit her game. So I think Zachary knows that there's still a bit of work to do. But at the same time, she, again, is very, very consistent, I think. And again, there's been a lot of players I feel on the WTA Tour and the ATP tour actually who are not living up to their seedings and playing very inconsistent at the moment, but I think that's hard to say of saccharin. This was her second final of the season. So she was coming into this 7 semifinals in her last ten tolerance. I think it shows you that consistency is actually playing with, but consistency is not going to win you. It's not going to win you. It did wells out in the delta and there is certainly yeah, I think room for a little bit of room for improvement, but yes, certainly knocking on the door. Definitely. So I've been let's just quickly touch upon the doubles Joel out in Indian Wells because we had the men's side of things. Americans must be loving it because John Isner and Jack sulk won the men's doubles in Indian Wells as well. Straight set 7 6 6 three against Gonzales and roger vasilian. Interestingly, I didn't know this, but roger vasilian has a metal hip. He's been out and has come back with an Andy Murray inspired metal hip. So there's another one on the tour playing playing out with that. And on the women's side of things, I think it was Juan and Zhang. He won their maiden doubles title against Muhammad and shibahara. So fantastic for them as a team to get their first title together. And as for the British side of things, I think, yeah, Joe Salisbury lost in that semifinal two Gonzalez and roger basilan. But on that note, let's take a quick break, but do join us in the second half where we'll be having a look at the men's and women's draws in Miami coming up this week, so do not go anywhere..

"Someone a player saying something nasty or unfortunately these things do happen in the world and as much as we'd like to avoid them from happening. And I also do agree that tournament should have done more to find that person and remove them. And it's quite we know sort of certain audiences can be quite boisterous. And it is going to be a fact of life, isn't it? She's going to encounter these sorts of audiences on the big stages. So I just, yeah, wish her a well. And I hope we see her at Miami. But I also wouldn't be surprised if she decided to take some more time out. But you know, U.S. hard courts are, you know, she excels on a U.S. hardcourt, so I would hate her to have her miss this tournament that she obviously really loves to play. And moving on, we also have had doubles action as well. We've got one semifinal already sorted in the men's doubles. We've got John Isner and Jack sock. Against goli bev and zverev and yeah, we've potentially could have Kim, Joe Salisbury, or Neil Scott ski in the, in the doubles semifinals from a GB perspective. But yeah, a lot of seeds I feel have dropped were dropped out of the men's doubles quite early on. Yeah, it was enjoying sort of curiosity and cocking accuracy. It couldn't quite continue their form from the Australian open. I think they lost to Isner and sock, but yeah, it feels very, very feels very, very open. It might be maybe an opportunity for Rajeev ram and Joe Salisbury to come through as the highest seeds left in the draw. I noticed that Kevin Kravitz and Andreas mees are back together as well. But they did lose to ram and Salisbury in the first round. Joel. So sorry. They've got a long way to come back. They were like, they were like getting into the tour finals and they're now unseated. Yeah, but they got the band back together. That's all that matters, Kim. I also love the fact that Feliciano Lopez and sitz pass are still together as a world car pay, you know, they did really well. I think they won Acapulco, didn't they? But yeah, they lost out to Isner and sock. Women's doubles, we've got an interesting pairing corneil and Fernández through into the semis there. Friend of the podcast, Gabi dabrowski, also in the 70s with her partner olmos, they're going to play Muhammad and shibahara, and then we've got zhiyun Yang in the other semi against corn and Fernando. So that's all to come over the next few days, along with the rest of the tennis, you know, we'll have to see what happens later with rapha and Nick kyrgios, cam nori, Carlos alcaraz, et cetera. I think Zachary is just one. So that's another player through bodos will be on next. So race against our bedtimes, isn't it for curiosity the dal to get on court? Well, I think they'd actually not before 10 p.m. so okay, okay. You know how much of it I'll watch before, right? Well, before I fall asleep out of tiredness, but I suppose if it's a really lively match, I will do my best to stay awake. We'll be back. "We've got, oh, actually, we've got a result, Joel, royally, Perkins, just literally won about a second ago, 7 6 7 6. Now that is a very unpredictable scoreline against Jensen brooksby in the final of the Dallas open isn't it. How many tie breaks have we seen this week between American players? Since the semifinals we've had a lot of a lot of tie breaks. A lot of tiebreaks involving big servers, big forehand, forehanded Americans, John Isner, Riley appell, in the bottom half, yeah, not that surprising. It's a very bar bite topic is a bit kind of people particularly talking about that semifinal John is the serve bot showdown. And it didn't fail to disappoint it, Kim. 46, 46 point tiebreak in that second set, 24 22 in the end to Riley perker, who clinched it. Yeah, it was the longest tie break that's been seen in ATP tour history. So when John Isner does when all is said and when all is said and done and John Isner does retire from tennis, he can well at the moment have the claim that he's been in the longest tennis match in history with his match against Nicolas mahut at Wimbledon in 2010. But now he's also can claim that he's got the longest tie break in his locker as well. I mean, they might as well just flip a coin and then just do a tight. They should just get to the tiebreak. Just if I'm in the crowd, I'd just be like, get to the tiebreak. Just wake me up when you get to 6 games or it's just. Yeah, it's not the most the tie breaks exciting because you think, well, when's it going to end and it gets through that ridiculous kind of pointed and you think, oh, you know, it's getting edgy now, but yeah, I mean obviously up to that point. It's not particularly the most interesting tennis match. They're not facing a single break point, basically. And it's just you might as well, yeah, literally play like a mega tie break and that would be done with it like that's the match. But fair play to a poker, you know, he came through that epic tie break. He's done the same again today in terms of winning his library. He's won his last four tie breaks. He also won two tie breaks in his second round match. So he's unbeaten on tiebreaks this week. So what more could you ask? I think particularly with these big serving players. I do think there is a specific challenge for them in terms of yes they can rely more or less on their serve and to get to a tie break. But what is it, what is it that they're going to do in order to clinch the tie break? And for Raleigh pelvis yeah, it's worked wonders this week in terms of winning all of the ones he's played in. Yeah. I'm still a bit kind of like as a fan, is that the tennis you want to see is a spectator. Let us know, are you happy watching serve bot showdowns or absolutely not at all? Because a tiebreak in itself is thrilling and entertaining because there is going to be a definite conclusion and in the case of Isner appellate you actually got a chance to watch some history, but at the same time, there will be obviously people out there who say, well, there's no point construction, the rallies are very short. And you just don't get the drama, well, arguably, do you not get the drama that say, you know, the rallies of Daniel Medvedev versus a Rafa Nadal would produce. It's a different sort of drama I feel like it spans up. I certainly wouldn't want a 5 set match with just vibrate. Just that type of tennis and I mean, obviously islama who we had ultimately was probably about 15 sets of tennis. As well, semifinal. Yeah. I mean, is this obviously just going records that need gold in life? I mean, actually, talking about Isner Anderson, you know, that would more than semi. They actually played this week. It is an Anderson in order to get into the quarterfinals. And that was unsurprisingly three tiebreaks. So obviously reliving their Wimbledon 2018 drama as well. But yeah, I mean, maybe enough said about Dallas the better, Liam broady qualified and got a win, which has a big show. Yeah. I think he went to set up as well against Marcos giron of the United States who went on and took out Taylor Fritz. So yeah, Liam Brady's played very, very well, I think, to get into the main draw and then get a main draw victory. I feel like he's having a pretty good season. I feel like he had a really enjoyed I think the team at the ATP cup with all the boys and I think he's just enjoy. I think he's just enjoying his tennis at the moment and he's producing some really, really good results. So yeah, great to see him reach the ATP level main drawer. I'd like to see him reach the wall band draws this season. I feel like he's doing he's got the tennis in his locker to do so. So yeah, I hope hopefully he can kind of continue. I have no doubt he'll probably pay a few more challenges as well, but he certainly playing some good tennis at the moment. Absolutely. And on to the ladies event this week, we had the WTA event in St. Petersburg, which was a 500 event and as it's indoors, Joel, we should really guess who was going to win this match on this title. I should say, because she has won the last three indoor hardcore tournament she's played, and that is in that cultivate. She's now won 20 straight matches on indoor hard court. She beat Maria thackeray in three sets today. Very tight battling match. So she was 5 two down in the final set came back to win at 7.5. So she wasn't going to let that indoor hardcore record go. She wanted to make sure she made it for indoor titles on the trot. It was a great match. Great final have to feel a bit of Zachary being up that school in the final set. She must have thought, yes, you know, I've got this just one more game to go and, you know, kind of a bit of a, we see this before from her bit of a collapse mental collapse. She's a bit too fragile in those situations, isn't she? Yeah, I think it's clear to see, I think what she needs to work on. I mean, I think what didn't help her as well is that quantitative is such a fighter and is a complete opposite, I think, to saccharine in terms of she's got this belief she knows what she wants to do and regardless of what situation she finds herself in. She has this capability just be like, show great kind of fighting spirit and bring it back to her opponent and there are multiple times in that final against Zachary where, again, it looked like she was, you know, she was down and out. That second set tie rate was incredibly close. You know, there were more than one occasion where you just felt that quant of it was probably going to get defeated and she just came back so strongly and it was very, very impressive. And as you said, she is without a doubt, the best player of best WTA player anyway at the baby on an indoor hog core. I think she has now joined a list of I think she's only become like the 6th person, I think, to win 20 straight indoor matches. On the WTA Tour. So yeah, very, very impressive and yeah, for Zachary, she's going to need to, I think she's playing great tennis. Great tennis throughout the week. Particularly impressive her victory against Elise mertens in the quarters..

"Kim today is the 13th of February and we are here to catch up on the weekend tennis at passing shot headquarters, especially backed by our crowdfunders, Liz current and Emily saracena. We have had another fun action packed week on the ATP and WTA tours we've had a few match of the year contenders who had some records broken as well with tie breaks involving John Isner surprise surprise and Riley oaker, surprise surprise, but the big news obviously came is that we are recording a day early. It's Valentine's Day tomorrow and as much as we love the passing shot and our tour catch ups. We just felt that we wanted to get it out of the way so we can truly enjoy Valentine's Day without doing the podcast. A Valentine's Day, which will probably both be doing very unraveled things. However, yeah, we are recording slightly earlier today, well, than usual. And it does mean some of the finals are actually still going on as we are speaking. So I'm sure by the time we get to those tournaments, the results may very well be in or we may be deep in a third set, perhaps. But let's start with the events that we do know the winners of because I mean, this is kind of an early Valentine's Day gift if you like. And that for me is Felix OJ alias E. Finally winning a singles title on the ATP tour. Wonders will never see I was delighted when I heard this result. And what a manner to win it as well. Two straight sets, 6 four 6 two over the top seeds, definitely sits a pass. He's finally broken the duck Joel. I know. It's unbelievable. We can't make that joke anymore on the podcast. We're going to have to find a new new joke. Yeah, no, it's a real exceptional level of play from auger aliasing in the final, I think he straight out dominated stefanos surpassed from the first point really, was just so emphatic and for me, I think we've seen already I think this season, particularly that match he had against Medvedev when he had match point in the Australian open. I think we've seen this season that actually, he is now living up to the hype. I think last couple of seasons, I think people were just sort of wondering when is it going to happen? Is it going to happen? But now he is just playing some really, really good tennis. I mean, the fact that he just destroyed sisa pass in the final, it makes me think that he's actually playing far above his ranking and he's paying to me like a top 5 player and I think that match particularly against Medvedev and Australian open. I think it just gave him so much confidence and belief in terms of what he can do on a tennis court and it's really great I think to see him carry that on. It wasn't just a flash in the Pam moment. I think actually, we're going to be looking back on that match with Medvedev as a turning point in his career. And following on from that, another kind of big moment will be the fact that he can look back on winning his first ever ATP title. And to do it so emphatically is just incredible, given, I guess how much mental baggage he would have had going into that final, he was what zero 8 in previous ATP tour level finals. So to go out and do it so emphatically it just was very, very impressive. Yeah, and you think after having been in 75, I was always being the bridesmaid, never the bride and also having had that match point against me at the AO and still losing. You know, he must have been thinking, when will it ever be my time? But actually, he's obviously channeled that in a positive way thinking, well, I was playing slam winning tennis technically at the AO, if he always beat me up with almost beat Raphael, you know, he could very well have gone and wanted himself and he used to say he won't now actually go on and win his land, perhaps before sits pastors or was very or someone who maybe has been tipped to win a slam before. It was a very convincing performance today. I'm so pleased he actually turned up because in finals previously we've seen him just be very withdrawn almost and not able to play the tennis that he knows he can play and we know that he can play as well. So it's nice he's kind of finally living up to all the hype, and you know he's still so young and yes it took him, however, many finals to finally crack it, you know, his 9th 9th time lucky. Yeah, I mean, his first final was three years ago and he even acknowledged himself in the trophy ceremony. He said it wasn't the smoothest road, which is completely understandable, but now he's here. It's really, really exciting, I think. And I think we know what we're seeing anyway, this is going to be his breakout season on the tour, given the quality that he is bringing to the tennis court. And yeah, I've got to agree with you. I just think that the level that he is playing at. And what he showed at grand slams, it does give me this sort of sense that he is not just alongside, I think zverev and sisa pass in terms of being Grand Slam contenders for the future. I think the way his game is at the moment. And he's addressed these kind of mental barriers, these mental blockages, I think, that have stopped him in the past. Who's to say, I think he is in a better position to go and win and break a grand Sam duck more so at the moment than as a surpass or even I can Andre Rublev, who is the undisputed king of I feel ATP 500 events for last season Caesar before, but even he lost to FAA in the semifinals. So for him to for him to do that and again, just on that Rublev match, he was a set down. So again, another example I think of that confidence in that belief that he's now playing with, I think, a few seasons ago, maybe he would have dropped that first set and maybe he would have just kind of lost in lost in straights to. But now I think because he's playing with so much confidence. We're seeing it and I think in full force in full flowing force. On the tennis court and when he's playing his best, there are not many players I don't think that are going to be able to that are going to be able to topple him. Yeah, definitely. And you know, he serves fantastically well when it's on and his ground strokes, you know, just kind of relentless at times and cab nori fell by the wayside to Felix as well. Two, two tight sets. So I think cam had a great week getting into the quarters getting two good wins and then having that sort of tight tight straight sets defeat to Felix. But yeah, just very, very pleased that he's finally got the title duck off his back and he's not gone the way of a Julian beneteau..

"Cool, you're a really good putter. How much, which is infuriating to say to your face to face and with many people that are going to listen to you. So good. I play with them once. He's annoying. I mean, maybe the most annoying guy would already knew that. Yeah. But it's just so easy to get in your kitchen. And it's fun. First of all, I have to have to talk shit. Okay, that's part of I don't have much offense in the game of golf, okay? Yeah, you do. So talking shit is one of my specialties. And I have to do that to win. No, no, so we're playing at the time, but I was like, this guy's pretty fucking good. He's good. And then I think we all had like two 70 out. And I actually ripped the three wood, but it went dead through and in lost ball. Colt hits one. I mean, beautiful ball flight to like three and a half feet and I was like, we're playing way different games. So the guy in 2071, the three USGS. He's so good. And I think this guy right here. Or maybe Isner said he's the best two in the world. Plus two in the world. In terms of competition and better with your bodies and I left that day and I was like well nowadays, you know, I do put in every score because basically the only golf I play is to gamble. And so you want to. I need strokes when I play the tour guide. There's no doubt about it. And it drives them crazy that they have to give them, but listen, I don't get to practice anyone like I used to. It's not a job for me anymore. So I need strokes. And I like the more strokes I can get. So putting, right? Is there anything specific you think about overpass or you thinking about your stroke ever? I think about for me what I try to get into forever is I just stole it from Tiger Woods, which is paid to the picture so I just take one last look at the whole look back, think about literally nothing and just put it right away. What do you think about when you put? That's funny. So I was playing with Mikkelsen at the PGA one year. We got pair together Saturday and Sunday. Phil Phil. And yeah, that guy named Phil. Got one PJ last year, I think..

The hero slayer has a bone to pick with consoles on October 21st. This is one of the ones where I just copy and pasted from my email headlines. And so this is me getting cute. These are the PR people getting real cute. Happen Lance vaulted away on the steam on October 22nd. And then survival quiz city gives everyone key to the city an open beta on October 16th. You gotta love it. Now it's time for kind of funny dot com slash you were wrong. That's where you write it and listen to what we got wrong. Nana writes and says, I was the one who said the rocks you're welcome rap was Will Smith's level rap. I meant it was I meant like it was G at max PG, but it was good. Now what are you saying right now? What do you say? You're getting too wrong. Get factual, tell me the I'm gonna reverse you're wrong. A lot of people are writing about The Rock. Also like they wrote for his vocal range. It's not like it was a showcase for how great of a singer he was, you know? Yeah, I mean, he's not like well known for Disney knew what they were working. But we're still we're not shitting on him all day, you know what I mean? I don't know how blessing great man stands. Great man. And I think The Rock is a great, did I ever say The Rock is in a great man. I love you. Before we started the ride, I hate The Rock. If you're watching Sunday, I fight them. That's what you say. If you're watching this in middle school in 7th grade, I used to rock bottom my friends all the time all the time, all of our mattress. We used to the people's elbow for fun. We love you The Rock. I also did that. He used to say he did it better. I've heard him say he did it. I would never say such a thing. Now listen, listen, the one thing I would do better than The Rock, though. You know how when The Rock would fight stone cold in the stone cold or give them the stone cold stunner and The Rock would do, he would oversell it where he would do fucking backflip out against stone cold senator. I think I could sell that better. I think I can sell that better. You are a silly person. I'm a limber Kevin. I got the motion. I can sell that crazy. That's it for kind of funny dot com slash last year. No way you could do a better backflip full. Oh, 1000. Test assessing dance, blessing noses. You can probably stop. But he's always vertical. You can buy a mat for the studio. We've been talking, we've been talking about a ring. Oh, that's gonna be awesome. I can not wait. Now, why were you talking about a ring before this though? Oh, it's one of those things that it's very practical. It always, there's always a need. I don't know if there's always a need. Hold on. I do like the idea of where we get into arguments. All right, yeah. We sorted out. He sorted out. We had to put on the box and gloves. I do like this. Today is Friday. For you were wrong, someone did write in and said that it is confirmed that the DLC played forward wrote in, I think. And so the DLC for animal crossing is the final one and then link to an IGN article, breaking it down. So I don't know. Maybe I would just miss that detail, maybe it was mentioned later. "We made these predictions before round. One happened so i have gone for came so we have jackovitch captured curb to salamanca. My picks of this. I've got djokovic winning. I think i think he will do not surprise there. I had carry catch. It'll get to the semi-finals say to see him. Go round one not gonna lie bit gutting afford it was a potential banana-skin thought he was a thought he was gonna come through it all of the all. I've got bled getting to round full. I think he might lose about t- surgery or maybe even asia. Elliot see but i think maybe similar to i think you know they carry us think that will be found out maybe by someone like an nba in terms of that frock solid wool. The dave yeah. He's what i bet. Judas i just think will maybe just have any ancestors. I'm i'm saying around four rebe live an end for the women of curb a going out in round three Which i'm feeling a little bit confident about. I think she will lose to cocoa goal of goldfish gilbert getting to the semi finals and enough got sabbath. Lanker getting to the quarterfinals. I she will lose to critique uva in the quarterfinals. Think i've she's the second seat. I don't see her getting to the final. I just think. I just think that critique of is a bit too small for saba elaine. We'll be able to be able to nullify the threat that she poses with her power. If that match happens. I have no idea if it will but that's why i go for. I know what you mean. joe. I mean an. I've gone for quite similar to be fair. I think people have obviously gone back to win. I had catch of quarterfinal. I thought it was going to get there. But least but alas rebuff. I've gone for the third round. Because i think he would be due to play front. Oh and i've got tefa to get the upset their cab. I've gone around four. Because i think that she will get through against either stevens. Oh golf i think it would be. But she's going to lead to soccer and then push. I've got semifinals leasing party and sampling of quote runner up losing bharti so we will see how that pans out but yeah we'll be updating of as it goes along and i think being three people who've got Catch not correct with the first round loss. Say well done. I think it was chrisny. Bone home. Brian and topspin lauper say weld onto ye three because much nelson baseball. So let's just quickly look at it. The night session got yokich coming up against hungary denmark and then we've got on dress gay Kind of the defending champion. Saying she wasn't there last year Against goalie based now sentencing upset with golly bitch gay. I think golly bitch condemn throw spanner in the works. Definitely an and we'd actually. I'm just looking at your jovic. Rudin that that means sounds a little bit like eat a with ruinous. Another upcoming player From from denmark Very similar sort of licking match on paper to you. Know when jackovitch faced jack draper Women another upcoming player from britain from great britain. I don't i don't envisage gruden getting nicking. Asset like jack draper did can see that can quite i can see that being quite Quite quite adamant tree and straightforward. I may even think re might be Overawed by the situation. I think he will just take it all in as an as an learning a learning experience but yeah i think certainly on ash. I think that the more interesting match might be undress versus. Call you bitch match because certainly the foam on the rescues in the moment. It's not like it was a few seasons guy wet. You would have said this. This is a match where she would just win. Retain maybe even in straight-sets. But you sat anything call you. Bishop go a chance to win in three. Yeah absolutely and then. On armstrong with allison risk against pepe tanka. And then we go taylor. Fritz against adm feel like fritz adm could be five sets I think that that's pre eat cool I think fritz. Might she come through that one but with with the home crowd advantage but we will see where we eating. I was in the morning but we'll be back in two days time thursday evening. Uk time to look back on the second round and all the action is going to happen. This is enjoyed listening to this round one round by round. Catch up with the passing shot. "Yeah and like phone. If i think i said this in our pre she's an seeded anymore she's catholic keno in the second round you know. They both won their first round but like she's not someone that you want to play this early in a slam like she's the olympic silver medallist. So yeah it's it's not nice is it and We had another pretty tight match shot with gabino mugabe's against don't advocate we don't avec edge is not somebody wanna play really festivus lab. She's such a fighter has been to the quarterfinals hip at. She liked quite recently about two years ago so they susan very tough rounder fool. She came through in two tiebreak sets but she was. Yeah a breakdown. In that first sets beckett kinda staged a comeback in the second set so it was really hard for quite quite lengthy match and Mugabe's etching it in the end. but like you know. I haven't really predicted her for this tournament. And i didn't realize i didn't have a particular reason for that but perhaps subconsciously i ne- that she she doesn't have a good record here. Does she know beyond the fourth round. No i know that that was that. Was that surprised me. When i was reading my kind of preview nights full for this matchup. She's one single round sixteen appearance in two thousand seventeen which is a career-best performance hair. And you look at is game east. Feel that it's it's well suited. I mean she's is well suited to yoenis across all of the services. But it definitely feels like she needs to make your. She needs to do better than that she is. She is a better quality player than you know. One solitary round of sixteen showing. And who knows maybe is this year and maybe she needed a an opponent of the quality of donna vacuum in round one to get get going because that was a really really tough match mean beckett. Yes she's like around. Kind of in the fifties i think in terms of ranking. But she's been top twenty. Us open quarterfinalist. The i think actually was a very good start for moog russa and the fact that she was able to get it done into. I think you'll be very pleasantly pleased with that. Yeah and potentially still on for third round with ethics story as a rancor if they both through their next matches. I was happy. Yes because that's your t cut chief favorites as if they were to mate but we also had ballot back and winning which is nice to say. She also had a very much shop with Camila giorgi who oversee very recently won the biggest title of acura and has been awesome fool. I mean that's a real tough first round for george as well because she would oversee been hoping to make a bit of a robin. Perhaps you know a few wins under about hair but you scallop kind of pushing her passing away. Six four seven six straight sets in the end for help so big big sigh of relief. For i think love serena haluk vans with him and we also had sabah lenka the second seed come through little bit of wobble in that second set. She lost the the second set on a tie-break Came absolutely storming back in one third sat in a bagel against the serb nina. Stoyaanovich says she wants six four six seven six love. We also had respect about as rancor she Martine cover off the czech republic six four six love and then we had cub as well. Another grand slam champion She was up against diana estremadura. And i knew kim though is going to be your strengths. Get antics in this match. And they nearly pay dividends for her. She was five free up in the feds sat and it was looking like one of our collective set picks was was going to go out early but cupboard kind of stormed back and she was able to win a final tiebreak so very good very good win their full cuppa. And yet you wouldn't be. It wouldn't be a surprise to tell you came. I'm pretty sure you stumps kahad an eight-minute Eight-minute toilet break. Sorry bothering break as part of a matches well got she. She should get on the fame with sits per they have recession. I think surpasses is speaking to his dad when he's she's probably speaking to Strep gift for all of the keiichi. Dips quite possibly. I mean another player. That i remember doing coil of leap breaks was critique of a and i mean cheat. She won her much quite company. But i think in that for the french and Remember she took a long one out of the second set and people were again. There was a bit about that i mean. I think the most epic window yesterday on the women's side was melies mertens though joe because she beats rebecca peterson sweden saving six match. Buoyed three six seven six seven six Really tough battle. I think it was three hours and forty minutes which is going to be one of the longest women's matches we've seen at the I mean pizza and will be kind of kicking us off. I think she served a full one of much points. It was very very close but martin's how on and did what she needs today. Right the end. I thought came. We were gonna get a moment where elise mertens wasn't gonna reach the brown four of grand stab for the i. I will see feels like the fast side. Because she's such a consistent before and the idea of lee's birthday getting out in round one grant saab at just does no. It just does not compute. I feel like with the that new. She is player of. She's a player modal. I think consistency. Maybe not necessarily getting to semifinal or a final but certainly to the round of sixteen or even a quantify no siwan yet if she was she was very about to bring battle maybe peace and was going to be able to do it but you know credit to to matins for coming through that because that was a tough match and again i watched the the final the final point to see the relief. I think that martin showed off to coming through that you could tell that she was. She was in a battle and it will be fascinating to see how she can prepare or if she can prepare for next match because because of the time she spent on coal. Yeah because it's very ho- conditions. It's not easy. Say it's not really conditions you wanna be having almost four hours matching but we'll see how she gets sold either. Let's just take a quick break now. I will be back in the second half to look back on. Today's action so far from day to do not go anywhere is the passing shots. We've jolan kim supported by download. Tennis dot com. And now we're going to move on t- today's action safe jo..

"Retired. It's always like i remember one of my old friends at school. She tried gay through five years of high school without having a single day off and it's like her doing that. And then on the very last day of the fifth year like cooling and sick it seems such a shame that his record is now being lost a match. I think catch any of this but yes he must have been massively disappointed. I mean he's paying another veteran film. Schreiber a gemini. Who's a very durable opponent and yet don't think chichewa been too happy to see But yeah kosher has andrew hall in the second round. I mean one player came who may be should've retired during the match is australia's nick curious. He lost to one of your saves. Rbi roberto parties six three six four six love that third in particular when he go bego. Just you know it was the odin at carrow solve. This didn't just did not like he wanted to be that and you know the fact that he only won seven games. I think says a lot about the performance. He put on cool. And i think maybe where his head was out for the slam. I don't know see you're the reasons for that. But i think i think by number of games one. That was how it was his worst performance in a grand slam singles competitor. Like how tend to have a wimbledon and. Yeah he's seen me. Having a overtime. I g matches until he had to pull out australian open money. Beat your team complete complete. Well the way from that situation alliens season. Yeah and is of very solid opponent and Pays very high level consistently say not the most ideal opponent for curiosity would have wanted someone who was say quite mentally unstable water. Call up and down. I think he was a bit light. Gotta get back. He's an absolute wall. Yeah he maybe. He ran out of ideas pretty quickly. And that is maybe why it went so routinely. I mean one hour forty eight minutes. I think we were all expecting not to be a lot more competitive than it was. Yes i think it might have had five sets original everett but how wrong that turned out to be. We did have a good five sets. A with kevin anderson and year eventually and surprise surprise that featured three tie breaks all of which kevin johnson one and he also served up forty nine aces which i think was his career best in a in a match so still going strong as it is is old kevin and then i guess finally we had Action form casper breed he's he's came through very impressively in his first round. Although the most notable thing perhaps to report from his much was the fact that his shoe came off and here. It's point with with one shave which they didn't play which is surprising that was ever debate. Yes should they not a loved. I loved casper roots honesty because he came out after the bachelor twitter to say. Should this have been a lap. I didn't think about it at the time. And i'm asking because i'm not really sure what the rule is so. Listen if you want to judge yourself wherever it should have been the latte. Go to cast bruce. Listen you can see the video. Bits yeah. I think he definitely should've rebuy be off for a few years ago. Now where i think it was vitas williams when she had the braids. Look in her heh. And all the beads and the beats base holing out yet they were fooling on coal. And i think the technical rule is If it happens once then you play a lot but if it happens again then you get a point penalty. So i think. Because he's she fell off. And that was. I think it should have been allowed. But if he's issue. Cable forget that i think it would have been a penalty but yeah it was just Y- there's there's going to be more serious about. She's for him. You know no doubt head and he can slip back for that on that point. But i would i would have said it. It was you know. Listen and let us know what you think. I mean talking. If she's anti. Mari was asking for some extra pass to be brought out to him from the center of manhattan because he didn't have enough with him so which surprised me. Because i would have thought you'd pack plenty of space but apparently was not the first time that's happened but maybe moving on from shady. Let's talk about the women's draw from day one because we had a match of former well. It was a full most fula. Usa final from two thousand seventeen. We had slain stevens against madison keys. And that went down to the wia as many of us thought perhaps by kind of they both slipped down the rankings. They're kind of in the forties and six of the world. Now not right at the top of the game. What they used to be so it could go either way. It went down to a law set. Tiebreak and sloan stevens edged it. Nine seven in that tiebreak so really replace a. You've paid pretty well. And i think even madison keys was very pleased with how she performed in the match of of really tough for for both of them. So wasn't gonna be easy either way but that was a great match to galaxy into on day. One i will definitely and again. Another all american matchup for the fans to also icing that teeth into and very section off the draw because saint stevens will go on to face coca goth. Who came through mike delineate. Who's very very very tough polish player but yeah that is going to be very another very exciting. All american Matchup but yeah. I think it was a great. You know. I it's it's it's just funny to see how you know. A grand slam from a few years ago ends up being around one match. And to be honest. I think the fullness isabey for them reminded me more or shaved me at least glimpses of of of where they were as opposed to where they are now and it was interesting to hear keys in her post-match press conference afterwards say i let everything out there and hey if lhasa that's absolutely fine but i think she was pretty happy in terms of the performance. She proud that because she's not necessarily been able to to put put it together. That consistently i feel like if the last occupied since the since the reset but Yeah it was a good. It was a good match and again sign. Stevens does is coca. Gulf is gonna be another fascinating counter and eat eat. probably kaikai. Golf is the you know the slight favorite. But you still think st. stephen's if she can sue tap into her. Us open winning run from twenty seventeen. You know she could. She could potentially cause an upset that again. I think that is going to be another -nother really fun match. I think that the crowd going absolutely absolutely can a lap up from from the first point to the last i mean if stevens does come through she may then face kerber and then after that mentioned arcus. If stevens is going to go on a run she would have liked the toughest role going in a slab as possible. If she if she's to come through that say it just shows you like unseeded. My way you've been if you're unseeded you just you just out just out there for the wolves on you and you can just get the most horrible draw possible. We saw that. We've andy murray passed in the first round. I think we saw in this particularly at this in this section of drool on the women's side..
