"Western conference is supposed to slow Lebron down it did no such thing. Now to be fair, the warriors, the warriors, and that was really the Goliath of the West Lebron didn't have to play them this year. But Lebron played them. Forget about the warriors with K. D. no team was beating them. Certainly, not the cavs as they were constructed is going to beat that Warriors Team Warriors One, seventy three games, and then added Kevin Durant without subtracting any of their core pieces. That's unbelievable. So. You know whatever. But before. I got there and the reason k. d. joined the warriors is because both Katie and the warriors looked at Lebron said, we can't beat this guy by ourselves. Let's join forces. Lebron the warriors twice. He surely would have won the first series that he had Kevin, love and Kyrie. He lost in six games without Kevin love or Kyrie. He took two games from those warriors without without Kevin love or Kyrie. Kevin love needs like Nick K. L. something know these K. D. I want short at somehow. For some reason, three syllables is too much effort for me to say. But Anyway If you go six games against those words with delicate over your second best player you mean to tell me with Kyri and Kevin Love, you're not going to beat them. Of course, they would have beaten them, and then the next year the warriors got even better one, seventy, three games and Lebron beat them. So I don't WanNa hear that the Warriors Oh, they're not at full straight Lebron's already played the warriors without k. d. and has clearly proven that Lebron led team is better well, that's this is not that Cleveland team. It's a new team, right this Lakers teams better than that Cleveland team because neither Kyri nor Kevin love is Anthony Davis Lakers team why or to wire had the best record in the Western Conference and was the best team throughout these playoffs. It's unbelievable. What Lebron just did. An after there was more at stake. In these finals, not just Lebron but for the Lakers, look I believe that you discount. Premodern championships it doesn't mean you. You ignore them, you count them. But they're not as valuable as modern championships, right like in other words. The Yankees have twenty-seven world championships by far the most in the history of American team sports. took place in the old days. What are the old days pre color line? Was the old days pre nineteen, forty, seven pre expansion. To One, hundred, sixty, two, games, nine, hundred, sixty, one Pre Wildcard nine, thousand, nine, hundred, five. And but anywhere any way you want slice it. The Yankees win has won more championships than anyone in any in every era. Even if when you discount their old timey championships, they still are clearly the number one franchise and a history of American team sports like by four. Celtics were like the Yankees. Of Basketball the Celtics had. Thirteen championships when I was a kid, the Lakers had six less than half. An eye in a kid anymore you fast forward about forty years. and. The Celtics are sitting on seventeen and the Lakers are about to get seventeen but with eleven of them in the modern era meaning post absorption to the NBA teams and adoption of the three point shot. Eleven of them in the modern era to the Celtics for. Once, upon a time, the number, one team in his franchise in the history of the NBA was by far the Celtics. Those days are over once the Lakers have their seventeenth to match the Celtics considering eleven of them have come in the modern era. There is no doubt and no dispute that the Lakers stand head and shoulders over every franchise that ever existed in basketball as the number one of all time on the planet earth. And Lebron James. In his tenth finals at age thirty. Five? In his seventeenth season playing like this. It's unprecedented. No played like seventeen years in Kareem is Thomas Hall of Famer. Joins me on the Shell Pennzoil performance line is a little unfair to Kareem because he played well, he was in college for four years. They weren't eligible to play in your freshman back then. Went to three championships won three championships was like eighty, eight and two over those over that time. So it's unfair just to compare their NBA resumes, but it just comparing NBA resumes I think for his career Lebron's got. Peak I take MJ before his career who's ahead of Lebron at this point. You know I I. You know the only two players really that that really has dominated sport. for. For this long period of time and we're talking you know. You know. Decades you know you. You're only talking you. Guys and then possibly three looking next Kareem. WHO has dominated? You know came into the NBA and I think what seventy one and it's last. NBA Final was in eighty nine. So you're talking about, you know close to two decades of domination and inconsistency. You know, and then when you get to the decade, you're looking at Russell in terms of what he did we're. Boston. And then there's lebrons These are the only three players that you can that you can say that have had decades or decade. Of Domination and You know when we you know Max Week we talk about analytics and everything else and you know from from my observation participation experience knowledge of the sport. You. Know the first thing is the I test. Lebron passes the. I. And then he's back it up with the numbers in terms of being the the best player that I've ever seen You know for this period of time he and Kareem to me no, one has really dominated but this sustained long period of time from the eye test and also from the from the numbers and championships CDC. They went to they each went to ten finals Kareem one, six Lebron won four but.

Doc Rivers was set to take break, says he 'couldn't turn down' opportunity to coach Philadelphia 76ers

"A week after Doc rivers in the clippers parted ways the sixers introduced rivers as their new head coach yesterday docks that he wasn't willing to coach just anyone but the talent and Philly made it a tough opportunity to turn down. That was gonNA coach anybody I can tell you that I was ready to take a break and. It just depends on the team that was available, and if I thought that team in my opinion was ready to win. That excited me and when you look at these players as young players and their potential. The fact that they've had. So much success in some ways at the age is that they are already. And where I believe they can go for me is is a job you just couldn't turn down. and. That's why I'm here. Certainly a loaded roster Zach Thomas still here with us with Steven you're up first at the end of the day, which is the tougher Doda to coach. Do you think it's PG thirteen and? Or would you go in beat and Simmons for dot? To to me, it's a Koala MPG. It's a tough. It's a tough situation because of where they are in their careers. Your I if you are a wild linnet, you're a two-time champion, the two time NBA Finals MVP portly. You're a bit indifferent as a personality. You're very businesslike approach. You go out doing what you need to do as it pertains to doing your jobs your job but in terms of galvanizing the troops around you, that's not Hawaii. Limit is you search around you talk around NBA circles that's what you consistently here in the case of. Paul George Obviously Paul Georgia's one of the more talented you know two way players in the NBA. He's a star, but unfortunately in his postseason career particularly, this postseason that was not the case and if your doc rivers and you walked into that situation, you got guys the veterans they're established stars they've got set in their ways. They believe there's a certain way to do things and what have you, and as a result, it ended up being an incredible challenge particularly when you consider what doc rivers had to absorb once Leonard Arrive Kawhi Leonard Arrive. At once Paul George Wounded Forces the clippers to trade to form in order to acquire Paul George because that's the person that he wanted to play. He wanted to play with he was GonNa practice what he felt necessary use GonNa take games off in terms of game you know load management when he wanted to he was gonNA play when he wanted to during the regular season of course, always available during the players but all of these things assist to what makes life difficult for coach particularly when you have ownership making these kind of investments that's problematic in the case of New Philadelphia Yes embiid, and Ben Simmons are young. And you gotTa get a Ben Simmons to shoot the boy only attempted seven three point the entire season last year Joel embiid attempted one, hundred, seventy two. So one guy needs to get the pulse more and stop having this big backside on a on the perimeter and the other guy needs to develop a perimeter shot. So he could be much more of a formative formidable threat, but they both incredibly young they both got a lot of promise and a lot of future. Ahead of them and they able, you know they're trainable to some degree as opposed to be definitively set in their ways because they don't have any definitive set ways that has really really worked for them and I think that's the difference. That's why I'd say it's it's tougher to coach. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George at this stage particularly for Doc rivers and what he had to deal with last year with the clippers then it would be for him to coach Embiid. EMBIID. And Ben Simmons.

"About Lebron leaving the court. So. Max. I think SPN. ABC NBC CBS of those who have. Covered the NBA over the years and I do have to give some historical context to this because when I was growing up the, you know you were you were deemed tough and when you when you showed I, guess what they called in poor sportsmanship from the coaches to the players. Everyone you know had a little edge to them and that was okay and that was that was all understanding in terms of when I was growing up to have that kind of age and I think right now we we have been in the past and we are still being today very selective keyword, very selective without critique and criticism of some who don't shake hands in some who do shake hands now Larry Bird is is quoted in famously in his book, cannot I went to every NBA finals of the Lakers in the Celtics? I didn't see magic shaking hands at the end of the series hugging and everything else that was those were my mentors. Those were my models in terms of modeling behavior So I didn't see bird shaken hands in nor did he ever apologize not shaking hands I think what we see happening right now is there's a selective keyword again, there's a selective critique in terms of who does it who doesn't do it and I think there's no standard but from an emotional standpoint, I think the standard should be that all of you who haven't. Competed at the highest level for championship Shit understand that we are emotional passionate beings who do under those circumstances carry and take losses extremely difficult. It is very hurting to lose a basketball game in the NBA Finals or the Eastern Conference finals or what have you. So don't be selective in your critique and be a look for giving a little bit more forgiving in your critique on. These moments of the athletes but first of all I can definitely forgive Lebron I. So he doesn't he doesn't need my forgiveness doesn't need anybody's forgiveness, but we can also give Lebron because bottom line is it wasn't the end of the series it was the end of the game I'll see you Tuesday night. So that's the way that I took it but here's my question to use EEK. To two-time champion that you are three NBA Finals appearances. Let's Let's. Let's get right to this. Did Lebron walk off the court because they lost. Or did he walk off the cook because Jimmy Butler gave it to him You know there's happened both. On. Its is probably I'm saying it's probably both you know we we as athletes we as competitors right when when when you lose and you get thump, you're not you're not happy that the guy beats you this. This is not happening. You know we we love Muhammad Ali he he did it in the rain and they dance over sugar ray say I got you. tope Joe Frazier he was going to beat them and the thrilla in Manila and everything but Brian James the losing Jimmy Butler doesn't like losing hey, you know. Doesn't lose it so the. The end of the game walk-off. Happens every single night Va.. NBA. NFL religiously. At the end of those games, there are certain players in the clock is running down and they have seen that they have lost the basketball game. The other team is standing there dribbling holding it so forth and so on. They leave exit the court that happens every single night in the NBA. This is what I'm saying. Let's not be selective in terms of who we choose to shine that light on in who we don't choose to shine that light on now Jimmy Butler gave it to Lebron Day I. Agree With You mad about that and and I think you know he was mad about is in the game. So both of them happened. Is as I agree with you and as far as I'm concerned, the light should be shown on the superstars who do it particularly how they respond to it. So if Larry Bird or magic Johnson walks off the court like that. My feeling is Ooh, look out here it comes and that's my feeling with Lebron. Now to agree with it, he put extra pressure on himself to come back like Superman now. So. Lebron will come back. But where to teammate step up right. Anthony Davis is GONNA come back with with the ferocity. Danny Green is gonNA come back with a ferocity Rondo is gonNA come back with Farrah it. What I mean by that is that you know when when the star player, who's a great teammate? When he has trouble in he's not doing his thing the way he wants to do his thing or somebody has GATT obon him. That's when the team collectively say, Hey, we got your back we stepping up we go take care of this and I spent all of them that come out and play look better not just Lebron James in this is this is when Lebron James is brilliant and understanding. So you got to you got to Max players to superstars, Jimmy Butler Lebron James both understanding the importance in the value of team. Neither. One of them is saying me me me me on the Guy I'm GonNa do it. Both of them are saying we need our team in everybody gets a little piece of the pie in everybody's got to play well in this is where the team step up and this is the brilliance of both of their leadership. The Lakers clearly, the superior team they've got the two best players in the world on their squad playing together. Jimmy. Butler is not on that level, but he is still a star in this league. He's no scrub and he's a rough rider. From a talent perspective what you saw from him in game three. Can Jimmy Butler duplicate that performance in a game four? He cannot from from a talent perspective. You know that is a that is a once in a lifetime game a once in a lifetime experience that he just had in terms of you know triple double only you know Kareem Jimmy Butler and was was Jordan known that less and make out Or magic the only three or four players. We've ever done that in the history of the game So you know we're not expecting Jimmy Butler to do that again and I don't I don't think he can do it again. But if he does you know more power to him. Now what Butler has to me is he's very fundamentally sound. He doesn't have the the the the gifted gene that Lebron James has in terms of size strength jumping ability He doesn't have the the gifted gene in terms of being. Seven feet tall. But what he does have is that gifted gene of being competitive in in this series I think the Miami Heat finally, in game three, they finally showed up to really compete against the Lakers to step into the ring imacs out is to you because we now use a boxing analogy when you was fighting Mike Tyson, you had to have the courage to really get into the ring and we saw a Lotta guys get in the rain just shaken and scared and they boots bruce sell out the first game. I thought the first two games. The Miami Heat didn't come with the courage to compete against the Lakers game three they did. Vander holy feel wasn't scared by the way Jimmy Butler one of three forty point triple doubles in Finals History Lebron Jerry. West were the other two they both lost. He's the only one dropped forty and a triple double in a win ever in the history NBA finals. I'm I just remember there was one other his name was James Worthy and he did it on nothing game seven in the NBA finals and they one in eight..

"He performed he outperformed the game plan that special that's what makes it takes ended that MVP conversation. So all the bills Mafia who've been on me, I would probably push them above the seahawks two three seahawks would go down and then the bucks for me well for me personally, I. Can get where you're coming from an IT. Definitely, a legitimate argument for that is just that they were playing the raiders and as a result of them playing the raiders I'm not sold on a rate is in Derek Carr Derek Carr wants his respective whatever I'm still waiting for him to earn it. But the bottom line is is that he's not a scrub anything like that I'm just waiting to see what I saw from him three years ago before he got hurt in the end. So many question marks about the rate is that's why I came down to me looking Josh Allen compared to Russell Wilson Arron Rogers and I gave Amer Rogers and Russell Wilson the edge over Josh Allen for now. The list of. Josh Allens looked amazing but but but but talking about Rogers and everyone was open. It was the three of us. Playing Receiver Forum yesterday like and it's not like. That's the first time. Aaron. Rodgers has done that this year Jeff. Is threaded the needle when he needs to, he's made spectacular plays. Year I mean all year is the highest QBR through four games of any player since they started tracking it no six man this is espn stats and info this morning tweeted it out to two quarterbacks who were behind him. Won Mvp the season's they did it. I. Mean and set the touchdown record rogers having a starkly great Max so far the quarter pole we're not talk Max. We're not talking about who's playing best quarterback. We're ranking teams correct were. Yesterday he was Aaron. Rodgers was twenty of twenty two running backs and tight ends. He had a tight end catch three touchdown passes like I said look it was a great game plan Matt Leflore called. Game and he and Aaron her on the same page I. Get it. He is playing lights out, but we're talking team football right in that. Aren't we putting the nays? Are we are we ranking? Or ranking teams because if you're looking at teams, I'm talking about into tally. So why do I put the bucks in there because of what Todd Bowles can do with that defense I think about all three levels whether it. Sou- at the at the first level JP at the first level. If it's Linebacker, they'd had seven different players with sex and believe in Todd Bowles. So as I'm looking at teams I'm not just talking about I'm not talking about Josh Allen I'm talking about Josh Allen and single Tara we'll do it and then digs and flip it over their defense who has been banged up in his still ball and so when you when you bring in everybody else I, think that's where the packers and the seahawks are a little bit. They're on shaky ground because neither of their defenses have impressed me the dairy. Smith Bald last night give all the credit in the world he played A. Football game but you gotta do that week in and week out the show me the team as opposed to just a quarterback seahawks actually have the worst defense in yards per game. Tell Them Jeff all fact Jeff Saturday thank you so much for being with us. Like that montage, two time Champ Hall of Famer Isaiah Thomas Friend of the show with us now, Isaiah, always good to see you, sir, let's get right into it here. Game four is tonight Jimmy Butler and the he made it a series and game three. Tell me this how pivotal is tonight's game to the outcome of this entire series. I think it's a very. Game psychologically for the Miami Heat to give back to to even if if they get back to even and then they can get healthy. Then they feel like got a chance to win the series I think already feel that way but psychologically, they're still down. For the Lakers Going up three one, this will be commandingly for them Lebron James Understand. How to finish you got Danny Green on that to get Rondo, on that team from a leadership standpoint in a in a story in historical finishing standpoint they got great storytellers on the team that can really coach the young players in terms of how you finish how you destroy a team and how you close avid series. They got three finishes on Net Laker Team Lake. Roster Miami definitely has to give back to even but before before I get a little further molly, I do have to compliment Stephen A. Oncoming out copay looking so fresh and flat I, mean he definitely Got A new Taylor. Looking good. Get you know get the hair all done in everyday Komo Stephen. Just. Come out of you know. I I I've been. I've been covert free. I've got tested about eleven times though I'll tell you that. But let me ask I appreciate their brother. You're looking pretty sure yourself. But let me ask you this question is A. Maximum talking about this yesterday, I had a question. From the standpoint I believe is greatest Jimmy? Butler was and he was nothing short of phenomenal that have Anthony Davis has shown up. There's no question in my mind that the Lakers would have won game three and they'd be up three Oh right now Anthony Davis is that potent and he's that pivotal to the Lakers success and I think that if even with Jimmy Butler having that kind of game, the Lakers are looking at it three Oh lead if Anthony Davis had shown up first of all I, want to know what your thoughts are about that and I wanNA know how he looked overall in your mind last game. What did you take? I would say Stephen You one, hundred percent correct and what? Experienced, you know this is as I walk through in terms of the NBA finals and what all the great players know when you come into the NBA finals, the most important thing that you need to do is stay out of foul trouble so you can be on the floor to the. Never, played the Lakers stuff 'cause we knew we shouldn't be. Know Magic. Karim worthy all played forty minutes there was no way. We can win the basketball game bird and Mikhail. Often, get forty minutes out on the floor. We wasn't good enough to beat their sustain power I thought what the Miami Heat did in terms of giving. Anthony Davis. In foul trouble early eliminated his plan time on the floor. Thus the Lakers didn't have their four arsenal come into attack every single time. If Davis in Lebron James can stay on the floor thirty, eight to forty minutes plus. Than I, do think that the Lakers win you know because the Lakers have the benefit Stephen Eight Max Molly they come in with two best players in the series normally you come in with the best player in the series, but the Lakers come in with a to blessed players on the same team in the series. So from a talent standpoint, they definitely have the talent to win. Isaiah. You're the person to ask about this because you've had to answer this question a million times, and then again after the last dance and everything. But Lebron, James Leaves, the court with a very little bit of time left still officially not the end of the game and just walks off the court. It's not at the end of a series. But is is during a finals loss your thoughts.

"Because against that team in Washington who still doesn't have a name they still handed their business fresh off of what transpired a week before Monday night football the more Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens could show up against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City chiefs but he made immense a little bit they one, thirty, one, seventeen, victory top three rushing attacks law Jacksonville, leading Russia. Oh, by the way, he's only throwing one interception and. Seven touchdowns on the season complete, nearly seventy percent of his passes. I'm GonNa give the Baltimore Ravens some love and leave them in that top five list. Let's go to number four. Please give it to me no change here the Buffalo Bills Wa because I don't know if anybody's been paying attention but we're talking about Ariza's we're talking about Russell Wilson I'm sorry when you're talking about league MVP, we just going to ignore what Josh Allen is doing twelve touchdowns and the Stephen Season just one. Has Completed Seventy percent of his passes and Buffalo Bills All undefeated Oh by the way the secondary isn't even shaped up yet they got some brothers up in there that can play imagine when everybody gets healthy and they're ready to the Gulf the buffalo bills cannot be ignored. They might be the number one threat to the Kansas. City, chiefs in the AFC before all of a sudden, let's see what happens with New England went camp goes back. Let's go to number three on the list. Give it sent me y'all packers Wa Max. Kellerman explained it earlier I explained earlier Arron Rogers, is that dude I'm going to y'All your. Mind his brother something special thirteen touchdowns out of signal interception complete seventy percent of his passes went without this gambling and the rest of the Ku don't even have the atoms available to 'em all the time. The bottom line is this man is still doing his think Aaron. Rodgers special put the world on notice the hell you go and draft my excessive force fourth. Don't you know who the hell amp you must've forgot great. Let me remind all. Of y'all in the world who the hell I am. That's what he did. That's what he's doing. Keep your eyes on Green Bay that number three team let's go to number two on a lift I'm GonNa give it to you the Seattle seahawks. Why? Because a Russell Wilson? That's why K. Metcalf Ball Tyler, Lockett Good Ball Greg Olsen Day just safety net at the tight end spot. That's an upgrade. We all know they can run the football as well. But in the end, it comes down Russell Wilson Sixteen touchdowns, just two interceptions completing seventy, five percent of his passes. They're also undefeated, and that's what the defense being a little bit suspect. I mean wait till they get it together. We gotTA GET PROPS We're practices do we saw what they did against the Wind Russell what's to do for five touchdowns? Five touchdown passes but anyway, that's a story for another day number two, hundred dollars we all know who's Number one on the list it's just unavoidable. Somehow some way Patrick mahomes achieves the goal find a way to win. They were they were suspect last night off offensively Bill Belichick, new. England. Patriots I mean, they've got their number that Kinda handcuffed them just a touch but somehow some way they find a way and their defense is vastly improved from last year gotta give love to the Kansas City chiefs not just because of a home not just because of. Andy Reid. But because of that deepens and by the way Houston Central Fire your coach how talking to Erik Vienna me he could be a head coach in the NFL. So the I mean he's only been doing his thing and he's only the reigning super. Bowl champion is an offensive coordinator. It's just a thought. There's a lot to applaud about the Kansas. City. Chiefs. That's why they deserve to be number one on my list chiefs, seahawks pack because Bills Ravens Best. The list Stephen as Steve is a list just for this week floors y'all's knacks Yup I. Well first of all, it's a good list I have some. I. Have some minor quibbles number one. I don't know how the Ravens get back on with a win against maybe who? Team. That turns out to be the worst team maybe the worst division ever I don't know why that puts the Ravens back on the list if they were off the list, steelers and titans can't help their game was postponed really whether that's postponed or cancelled or whatever. You could make an argument there I would say the Patriots I know they're two. Without Cam Newton, they played a hell of a defensive game against the chiefs with Cam Newton. Maybe it's different. You brought that up earlier Stephen and otherwise they're one losses to Seattle on a goal line stand by the Seahawks I, think you actually make a loss a case for A. Team right now, and the other minor quibble is this I know Seattle is everyone Russell Wilson for MVP and they looking really good i. think the packers defense has looked a little better than the Seattle Defense and truth be told I like Aaron Rodgers over Russell Wilson Right. Now by a hair I, put the packers ahead of the seahawks they have to divisional wins, and by the way, the Vikings lost by what a point to the titans right I mean and that's one of the divisional wins and then they've also beaten the saints I would put Seattle second to the chiefs to real. Sorry. For Jaffa chiefs. To Real Quick Jeff before you take a number one, no five hundred team. I'll give a damn how good you are you and to get on my list that's number one we're not doing and number two. When you talk about, you can quibble you take Arabs over Russell Wilson by Air Max. Kelman. I got you news for you. When you're my age with this headline, any hair is coming in my direction I'm not giving that he'll. Toys Your Jessica. I liked the list I do I like it as well. I will say there's a couple of things I got issue with. And to your point to to I, don't care. The. Patriots. Play there. No moral victories right last night there quarterbacks didn't play. Well, they had some bad calls either way you've got to win games like that I do have a big problem that we got the packers and the seahawks up on the list. What about the buccaneers who by the way of all three of those teams have by far the best defense and they have todd Bowles, the defensive coordinator who should give you concern as that season moves. On and by the way Brady is bowling two touchdowns drops I think it was in week two, but it's like, what are you talking about the books because Aaron Rodgers goes out and lights up the Falcons basically have me playing DB last night I mean there were dudes who were ten yards open that had to be you'd have to be accurate to win that game last night all you had to do don't trip yourself. You know what I mean so. Has I'm looking at that I wouldn't put the packers above the seahawks as well. I would put the bucks above the Ravens I don't think the Ravens get back on the list because they beat the Washington football team either I'm in agreement with with Max, on that I think the chiefs are still one I liked that call and then the bills main I could make an argument the bills could jump both the pack and the seahawks. Believer, Josh won't be honest with you. I was not a believer last weekend against the Las Vegas Raiders probably the best game I watched him play and he wasn't because of his his arm and I know it's can and all those things it was because of this decision making he was very clear. He understood he recognizes defense he took advantage of it. They called a good game, not an exceptionally Wellcoll, but.

"Bookings that ask Joe flacco science at one year deal today with the New York jets, how? Could, there be a better market value for Joe Flacco then Cam Newton. How does that happen? Familiarity like unfortunately like this is. This is what happens in the league. quarterback coaches up. 'cause coordinators are very comfortable with the guys that can sit in the room and drop all the stuff on the board, and whether you can play, or that doesn't necessarily matter as much because Joe Douglas a gentleman is the jet was familiar with Joe Flacco from his time with the Baltimore Ravens es comfortable with him being in that role to be the next guy because they know him, and sometimes it comes down to trust unfortunately for Cam Newton. Cam doesn't have any guy can advocate for him my. New New gas already. Oh quarterback, love, Rivera and Scott Turner there and watched it and Dwayne Haskins and it's got. A love affair with. Allen so right now. Cameras without team, but I have a sneaky suspension, but by the time we go back to work. Towards. Football the I think CAM IS GONNA end up making his way to the New England patriots and I think that is going to be the marriage. Everyone wants to see I think it'd be a very productive marriage for example, Bella check. Hey, Bucky! We only got a minute left at see if you can do. This I I was very against the owners with the. Tron incentive. Added setups to hiring lack general managers and coaches, I just thought it was insulting and embarrassing, and they wound up. I think there was so much pushback. They wound up shopping it and not voting on it because people didn't think it was. Didn't sound right. Where were you one that did that? Make sense to you that a league that seventy percent black. You gotTA drive people a higher black people in front office. Insulting, but here's the thing. The other ways haven't gone about it. You don't feel like they haven't produced the results, so we talk about the meritocracy, a just war card. Do your job be better than everybody else, and you'll get the opportunity where we're seeing that for some guys, that's not having the enemy and some of the other guys. When they were hot Christmas short, it didn't work out for them, and so you need to have something that would not only ignite the conversation that we're having out here in the media world, but also something. Something that would make the owner's move now. They didn't ultimately move on it, but the bigger problem in the national. Football League is nepotism and cronyism. You have too many sons brother-in-law's father in law's Buddy's buddies friends being paid back for previous favors that are getting jobs over more qualified people know you find a way to to deal with that part of it. It's going to be hard for people to move up because they're too many times. That connection in the network gotTA preventing gas removing moving up the pipe. "Of sports radio. L. Coop Hey hey y'all know God. Good welcome to welcome to the show. Thank you nor- normally would be crystal. I'm getting ready to bash but. You'll feel feel good all areas behind the world. Can you justify saying that? He went eight times when you feel good about that? I don't think it's an endle- I think it's an accomplishment that doesn't get as much recognition that it should. That's a pretty big deal goal to the finals eight times. And I want you to give me the same energy on Michael get Michael Jordan coming back after retirement in the league three more chips. That will take us much fig up on. How Valuable Lebron is! When Lebron left the cavaliers, they tanked. They were terrible when he left the heat, they went down to crapper. That's diaper Lebron James as the how come we can't win at a higher rate. Cooper's is right. Andy Remember. This sports has a short menu wins and losses. All the other stuff you're talking about really doesn't factor in. It's the reason we never mentioned Jim Kelly is the reason Dan Marino is not really. Really in the conversation for the goat quarterback, despite which is a hell of a quarterback, but is true, though I know is to shame, and it's funny. You have an outstanding of work and your career I mean you just don't get any credit. And there are guys that have never wanNA thing back and Baseball Ernie banks I mean think about think about guys that have been tremendous players that never won, and now they're getting kicked to the curb, and I don't think it's right. I I can't buy Andy. I'm with you. Let's go Andre Andre in Michigan with rob. Parker, and Andy Furman of Fox sports radio. Andrei hey first of all good job, and you're doing a great job for Chris Appreciated Rob. God gave me. I gotTa Disagree Rob. Here's my thing. It's a team sport with the accession at the two thousand eleven finals name finals. He didn't sharpy. The man averaged a triple double in a finals. What more do we, WanNa do have triple double. The same thing like. If you were nominated for a Pulitzer nine times, which only one three, so we hold that against so we? Knew. We were talking about the greatest sports writer of all time, and he won all six of the pulitzers he was he was. Nominated for our Pale by comparison and that's. Why do you see what I'm saying, but he likes? As. Lebron won three titles. Three different teams and five different coaches Jordan six titles, but one coach. Coach! You don't think that's an accomplishment. Three different teams five different codes. To just set it. You always try to Pooh Pooh The Dallas Wand. There's no way that that team should be Lebron and the heat. That's up. That's more candy. You know that. Could as. Radio. They, could those guys that stopped Lebron, but here's the things like Andrei. Come on about you're right. You're right, but the point is this. Why put dagger in the heart of Lebron? If it's a team game as Andre said, why is out because we always the way that we count those championships for the star of that team. You know that we've always done it. And the only reason people don't WanNa do it now. 'cause Lebron's on the short end of the stick. If Lebron was six zero, all of his minions would be running around talking about he's the goad. He's perfect into finals. There's nothing better than six..

"Two got three right. Your member that. They thought they were going to win all these championships and you know what they did. They want to out of four perfect. Say No he said loss to a Lesser Dallas team that there's no way that team should one three or four championships to wait at that roster stack. That Lebron is looked upon the way he is and the team's. With were garbage his team. To talk about the heat, tell me that they did. that. Team didn't underachieve Andy they probably did. Not Probably. They probably did I expected more from the I'm with you. You know up, but it's hard. It's really hard winning a championship in any sport. It really is they at talent. It should have done better, but the point is. This is about great. Teams go up the eighty-six Celtics. They were pretty good, too, but back to Michael Jordan at thirty five years of age. He was finished. He really did I know we play the which when? When he was thirty eight, but it was all over by then the Lakers back to March eleventh of this year the Lakers forty nine and fourteen they could very will make the NBA finals of the season picks up. That would be ten finals full Brian James. That's four more than Michael Jordan full more finals. I don't care about the rings. I'm saying Guinea to the finals that to me is an accomplishment and an accomplishment to me. I'd rather. I don't believe in that the whole notion of going to ask Jerry Wes. WHO's one in eight and NBA Finals? That's going to nine. No, really not. You're losing side. Eight time expanded abandoned new. York victory I've been there ever wanted to nineteen seventy-three. I get that, but I would rather if I were. If you ask Jerry West right now. Could he have been to an our three? No, rather than one and eight I bet you take three dollars. There's not a day, but the OUGHTA go and be. beat up on and lose. Nobody wants doesn't make you make you. Lose. We'll take a specialist back in the day. With Jerry was played. He was appreciated for what he did. He is to silhouette. He's Tabasco. He is the face of the NBA and he only won. One title. Think about that in today's game. If he was one in eight in the finals, he considered a bum. He'd be considered a bum. I mean took a great place to beautiful thing about you. Raw Parker's the fact that you know the history of the. The NBA at people talk about the League today. Don't history what I mean by that Utah Mount Rushmore in the NBA, why is an elgin? Baylor up there? "Every once again we're is somebody right now. You can do I again. I was so fortunate to so when you asked me who taught me how to dribble like that. I learned that from curly. Neal markets hanes. Now how did meet curly? Neal and Marcus Haynes When I was playing at the Martin Luther King Boys Club. One of the coaches there who would come around and advise our our biddy basketball coach. Was John mcclendon John. Mcclinton is a former student of Naismith and he was also with Abe Sapper seen in Mississippi Pristine out globetrotters who would come give clinics on the west side of Chicago and I remember curling so when you see me like patent it real low and then are following the ground and get up and then go back all that. Come from curly and Marcus in terms of how they taught you how to dribble and the way they taught you how to dribble was like you gotta learn how to play the piano. You know so. Yeah Things. You Start Your index finger. Then go to your middle finger ring finger baby finger thumb in and before you know it now you then they call it patent how you learn how to pat and if you can keep their ball lo que nobody really get it because the angle that defender has to take if he's not willing to bend his knees and get down there with you now down in a chair right. And if he's not sitting down in a chair and you see the head. Lean forward when a head leaned forward. Now he's off balance he came slide when his head's forward. And so you learn all those cues and those are the things that I learned in terms of driven. So that's how I learned how to dribble Bud bad away. I wasn't the only one who learned that you know everybody in the neighborhood were teaching everyone. It's not like I had like a private lesser You know so now. The whole neighborhood on the west side. You know you learn how to dribble now when you learn how to dribble now you gotta learn how to defend that. Yeah so we always say at the guys on the South side guys can score man. They they can shoot is pretty shots you know. I mean if you think about all the scores who have come out of Chicago from hundreds mainly all of them from the south side. I mean a shoe good. They look good. You know the hair fresh cut. You know west side. We Tony Allen Patrick. Stray dog because the bottles the low end. Learn how to stop you know..

He ended up getting strung out on heroin but he was Man was good. I mean I just wanted to play like him I mean he was. We somewhat better. Yeah I mean it was. It was in. He would put on a show every time that that he played and I never forget my other brother. Larry he saw we say junior you. You just came play. Anybody can play like you. You gotTa make him feel it. You know you you gotTa make them feel it unless you if you don't make them feel it man and then why we come watch you play. I can go to the playground and watch people play. You gotTA put on a show. "Some new poll. Whatever the the the fan and I was just like like I feel like he don't get enough credit for a lot of this stuff. You know what I'm saying. A lot of moves and stuff. You know what I'm saying. Drafting Stoudamire camp Boys OVER THERE. We know even the guys that he you know that you gave. Did you sign to deals from from Indiana to the Knicks? All of the moves. I feel like what made you be able to see and ignore that and say I don't care what they saying was being said about him. Uc what you saw. You did what you did. I always approached the traff asking this question. Can this person play in a championship game and win? And what is his his mental makeup in every trade that I made. It's like okay. Not Can he play in the NBA? Not How many points can this guy perform under pressure? If we in a pressure situation can follow game plan can execute and can we win a championship with them? And if you look at all the players that I've drafted and some of the players that I've traded for they even hall of fame right now. They've been named NBA. All Stars and have won championships or been six men of the year so on teen that that we had in New York. We had six people off the team when NBA Championships. Maliki was on that team went. Nba Championship David Lee One. Nba Championship. Channing Frye one. Nba Championship Edie Carey was on NBA championship team. Jamal was you know sixth man of the year forever. The trophy will probably be named after six. Guard Wilson. As you said. It's still playing everyone that that we had at tied inge as record in play also points in the order as the fourth string guy and and we had all this talent in everybody was was so young and maturing and growing now you know the narrative in New York and I don't know how this got started where they said. Well you treated all the draft picks. I never treat any rapid as a matter of fact one year I had three first round picks if you go back and you look at what I actually did or we forget the name. Trevor Reason I in terms of And I'm sure there's somebody else that I MISS. You know as a champion so if there's somebody else that was on that team. I Miss I apologize. But there's only the trade that that I still think today is so misunderstood. People you know have have wrote so fictitious fictitiously. Just bad about was the eddy curry trait. I mean the Eddy. Curry A to me was eddy. Curry and Wilson Chandler for tyrus Thomas and tyrus Thomas at that time was I think he was the second pick in the draft. And I let that tyrus and no offense tyrus but I just said I I got David Lee and I got channing. Frye so I'm good. I'm good at the power forward spot. I don't need another power forward in the three power forwards. At that time they were coming out was aldridge. Tyrus Thomas and joking Noah when I looked at channing in David I said Okay. These two guys are capable in my opinion and this was my criteria my criteria is. Can you win a championship? Not Can you plan the NBA and score some points and make some money? Can You win the championship? I looked at David Lee. And I looked at channing. Frye and I say these two guys planned championship teams and win. So I'm good within right and I think when you look back in history has proven US correct that Wilson Chandler Eddy Curry for tyrus. Thomas was a damn good trade. Tom Remember this. I first PRESEASON GAME. It was a first or second. Preseason Game Coaching the Indiana Pacers who we had a whip in Indiana and if very win fire me I. He'll say today we do. I would have won a championship with that team. Great that's one of my favorite teams too. But we played at Indiana state and my first Sakti was dunk on. Somebody was against Jermaine O'Neal in the state and I don't don't like bodies or by title dealt with and I yield.

"Jolly. Y'All ready to hear from like solid good. He's like holy member laughing at him year before like boy. I bought all them sous artist and I'm giving them a hard time and then the next year they changed the rule. I gotta going to go to the same person. Ten suits my walking snowless. The one of the question. I wanted to ask you like UN. Joe Dumars is one the best one and two in the history of the game you see one and twos out here now you see stuff in clay last. Fcc Dame Literacy j McCullough you know you see these guys to see that communist because that was one of the things. I loved about the old fist. And saying you and Joe Dumars Year you had all them guys that was rough and tough and rebounded in doing all this stuff you enjo- was like something other speak about The relationship with Joe. And how y'all got the camera. Streeter Kinda feed off elk used to look at the game and it looked shot. Used to give easier like always showtime or. It's my time it's you know saying and to see it now in the game today when you got you know stuffing clay having so must assess as you know leading the team being the one and two and Damon's CJ having this assist. They have gone to the playoffs every year in this. They might need that. One player like like Mcguire came in to put them over to look at. What Dame doing now. You'RE GONNA tear right now again to me. I measure everything about. Can you win and perform in play in the championship right and not just play in the championship? But can you win? Do you have the mentality to walk up in the arena and somebody else's building? Do you had a nerd. Snazzier persons hard and get I and you know we we use punched in the face analogies. But we don't really mean punched in the face but we mean our mentality. All Energy is going to make you feel like we punch you in. You know you walk into a restaurant and or we are we. Let's say we we own the court and we plan right and it can be ten people that walk in and we like we good but there's one guy that show up on the court and we like I think we gotta go. Dude ain't said nothing but you feel his vibe. You feel as energy so we tried to put that energy into the opponent and Joe and I when we walked out on the floor. We wanted to every single night. Prove that we were badder than you offensively in defensively and and by the way if if one of us was in trouble defensively then we would come and help you know. It's like it's like we used to always say okay weighing alleged and get fifty on you but he did but but at least we had the mentality that okay. I'm coming to help. Now when I get over there. I may not be able to do nothing but but at least when you turned around and he scored on you see all know you looking at your team may saying okay. I'm by myself things. Go fifty on just use on us right and that and that's the way it was now everybody else you know all mentality was like we coming in not to scorn you we come into to shut you down because of this is what you like to do. We're not going to let you do that. You're going to have to do something else to beat us and you're going to have to do a for a long period of time. Any odds are if I make you do something a long period of time that you not used to doing and I get to do what I WANNA do. Then I'm going to beat you and then you're GonNa be mad at me but I'm gonNA keep beating because I'm not GonNa let you do what you WanNa do. And that's the approach that we had coming into the game to play you win a championship. You be rebellious. They don't want the Detroit Pistons Win a championship. The Drain Tank. Come and all my favorite players. His Dream Team. Yeah and I'm just as pissed off as you do not making that Dream Team but you. You didn't making so far we move on. Then you make the hall of fame and they announce you've top fifty s grace of our history. The Hall of Fame Net Top Fiftieth Player of the history. What did that mean to you? Not None of us wake up or start playing basketball and say oh man. I'm make it hall of fame or maybe one of the top players. I mean you don't even I mean just best not even like a fall thing though and that's a hope not even a hope you you I mean is like and then when they say you made that right and for look dude. Big Right I walk in Rhuna. Y'All look at me and I look at jar like Hannes some big and but being alert do and then being honored or selected. You know I it to me. It was just mind blowing because I never thought that I would be on that stage or could be what I became in the game of basketball. I really was just playing in the majority of time. I was playing because that's where the food was like. You know you play for this guy you know. After the game he going by Your Hot dog that coaching no money. You don't get enough today. Okay so but you never thought like hall of fame top fifty you know in you know when you mentioned like the Dream Team. Did I WANNA be a part of that? Absolutely but when I wasn't picked you know it it was like okay. It hurt hurt indeed but at the same time I still rooted for the USA win in I watched every game you know and I was looking at. It like could have been playing right. You know you still steal fantasizing instill wanting to be but after a week went back. I wasn't bitter. No more like if you haven't had that experience which all of us have had trying to make a team remedies to write your name right you know and you see if you made the team and you know. Sometimes you didn't make the team was on the second piece of paper. Why does Alec that the Dream Team Situation is like okay well? I didn't make the team but I rooted for everybody who was on a team like I couldn't look at that team in say a our stockton the screw up. He shouldn't be on team. I couldn't do that because he's not only I respect me. I'm grown now. I'm adult and I play in the least I respect the different but I'm just saying we need happened and we. We had all wait a minute. Yeah we had. Our emotions was supposed to be on lateness to love. But you know really game. We had our emotions but at the same time. Those were you mean Stockton Hall of Fame Player. I don't feel the same with the kids in the yeah so And I and I had the privilege of being a little older in also have won some championships. So wow I may have been bitter and there have been disappointed. It didn't leave me to hate like Oh man I got. I want imagine them to win. And then I mentioned magic right for Magic to be a part of that team after being out of the league with HIV in having his career cut so short. I look back at that and say hey you know I I probably wouldn't have had the the forty two to say. Hey I'm a step back and let magic be. I was happy that the basketball God's as a magic had his stage. Instead of you do you you know doing a period of time probably can think that way but now that I'm older right and I can look back and say that moment while it would have been good for me letting magic have that shine. Let it magic be that what it did for him in what it did for the basketball community in HIV and everything else. Oh that was way bigger than Isaiah. Thomas not yeah so it was like the basketball guys have a way of working things out and at the end of the day magic being in that spot instead of me. Being in that spot was the right thing for the basketball community. I want old enough to curse you but you know when they announced with my Mama was cursing when they announced that they was given the they was gonna put NBA players in. And it's just like we just you just want championships and no one at that time. Had One more the magic bird and I and you and I and had just won his first championship exactly and it was just like you know when you when you read off the list. And we watch these all-star game stuff he was like man they got everybody right except for one person that we all want especially as made from Illinois like I wanted it so much. I wanted to just see you and Mike or code. I WanNa see you in magic on record. I wanted to see you play with bird. Yeah you know you see these wars and they don't realize really a brotherhood at the end of the day and to see how guys have fun. It was just like us the missing link today and I was real disappointed. Yeah I I was disappointed to But also also look at it and say you know what that team represented and now that we are older. We do understand politics in. I do think the political structure of that team you know you had to have some diversity right and it was A. It was a very diverse team. A whale put together team in. It really did hit all the bases that needed to be covered. But I again for me. Not at him. I'm a little older. I can look back and I can say a man that moment for Magic Johnson being on stage with that flag around him for what not only did we need. He needed that anger. And if I had to be the the Then then cool speaking. Yeah I agree with that speaking speaking on your relationship with one of the one of the best moments. I feel like I had in salt. Tv when God did to sit down with NBA TV. Y'All came back together like and I look at it like this for me and so like you too. We grew up. No idolizing yellow looking at is so when I'm sitting. I'm looking at child. Crowd them. That was crying. I'm like no no no in him but I'm like but I you know I'm sure every anybody that saw it could feel Santa Rosa emotionally. "Colletti. Anthony Davis we say in the game. Green Bay stuff phone I was. I'm appalled variously on so I'm like a so mark and I and I don't know if this has ever happened again in the draft where two kids grow up in the same neighborhood and they wanted to in the draft and we both on the go go to Chicago and Chicago head. Two picks in the draft that year they would draft him. Four and six. Y'All can make their for trying. I mean every end of the advertiser advertise every interview. I remember I went to Dallas in Dallas at the number one pick and Dick Motta was the coach and I watched him coach the Bulls and I remember him asking me Who Do you think the best player in the draft is? Oh Mark Maguire. You know Mark Mark's best player in the draft cause at that time he was and he said you know. Do you think you can play here for me in Dallas and I said no I don't. I don't think I would fit your system because your system is geared towards forward. You Know Bob Love Chet Walker you. You know everything you run for the forwards and I'm not going to be a guard that comes down and pass it and go stand in the corner that that's not the way that I know how to play. So he got mad and I was happy that again. Let me now. I'm doing everything I can slanted closely. That's yes Detroit head to New Jersey had three Chicago Four. So I'm like okay. Well I can mess. You know I can go in and just tell Detroit how. I don't WanNa play here so I remember. I sat down with Jack mccloskey and will Robinson in Jag. Mccloskey was asking me all these questions and I was intentionally answering everyone of them wrong and finally at the end he looked at me goes. I know what you're doing. He said but I'm a draft yet number two if there and you're gonNA love it here and I was like man. He walked out. We'll Robinson walks in and we'll goes. I never forget. He says Champ. If you lucky enough to get here to Detroit he say this place will love you like no other. I know you love Chicago. He said but if you come here to Detroit displays for love you like no other and he was right right. He was right. The BABOOR's team you get this label as bad boy senior rough and tough and all that stuff but my history of the game. The game I grew up loving like all the players from like I'm telling me I had twelve players in person now. These two Kirk does the the game from everybody in NBA. History is so many personality you speak on some of the the team as you head and then like the Joe. Dumars derive is the John. Salley horse like they are big personality in our league and you know. We grew up on that. So the team that you had the symbol to win them championships speaker. Boehner you know it. I'm glad you say the team that we have because we we identified and we represent ourselves as a team week. We came as one unit with one thought to win the game not as individuals trying to to be great within our team. It truly was a team concept that allowed everyone to be known and you know we used to say let it be known everybody gets a chance at a slice of the Pie but if you individual walking in then you get all the glory so I am happier today about the way people think about our team because all the people that you just named those guys were you know. Six man coming off the bench. Buddha Vinnie was so so from a team standpoint. How many players that played on a championship team? That still have the name notoriety that our team has talked about top. So That's how we marched and that's how we play now. It was a league that was moving towards individuality and we resisted that and I'll talk about lamb beer the most because you know lamb beer in think about this laimbeer a white center won back to back championships has won three or four championships in the WNBA can't get no burn in the NBA because he never left what we was all about in Detroit. He never stepped out of. He never tried to be an individual. Do He stayed within the teams learn. Now if he would have been a little bit more selfish now you got the different people in the NBA. Maybe we look at him differently But you can't name a player of his stature that has had the success that WHO's been ward of dead not that hasn't had an opportunity to coach in the NBA. And so I look at it and I just say you know what we stood for and what we still stand for today in terms of teen over individuals that has stood the test of time in a still you know how can I say it is in my opinion what the game should be about talk about how you know from Chicago. So everybody know you saying you play everything about you. Toughness saying from stitches in whatever just the way you play sprained ankle bottle out in the finals legendary like Taco Bell. Like where we come from where you come from in particular because I claim what you come from a little tough when you talk about how that just got you prepare for you know not only the NBA or college life. In general you know coming from the city and coming from where we come from I I grew up on on the west side of Chicago and in the west side of Chicago is that is that side of town that that the tourists don't talk about you know what I mean. It's like when people talk about. Chicago is the south side. And you know everything happens on. The South side in the in the west side is like a place where the expressway runs through. You know and you know. We grew up again. We was dirt poor and I grew up every single day. My first thought waking up in the morning was where can I get some food? Really? That was my first thought every day like where can I get something to eat in? You know I can get it on the way to school I can still somebody lunch at school In and then you had to fight on your way to school on your way back from school and you know the way the way all of us grew up particularly in Chicago. You literally had to walk out your door and you had to look across the street and make that decision if the guy who was standing across the street if he's going to let you walk by it was gonna be a fight in if you didn't guess right on day you could die. You literally die so your your decision. Making Skills Got Scharping. They got honed. And if you look at that guy and use like okay. I'm across the street. And then he crossed the street to then. You just gotTa go back the other way. You gotta find another way to school definitely knows the warning signs by growing up we. Yeah so and then you had to learn the fight so and I and I got good at fighting You AIN'T GONNA BE. Yeah and actually start enjoying fighting remember. I took karate right and I got all the way up to my black belt and you know you have to fight each time to get your bill and I'll never forget I was standing there and I was getting ready to fight this dude named Jerry. And he's black belt and I was. I had purple and I was fight. You gotTA FIGHT TO GET YOUR BLACK. And and he broke know you bass and say he broke out into staffing. He looked at me. Is.

"I La in then. He looks at me and he goes and he called me. Peewee peewee. Can you make a shot? I said I make shot but I think if I give him I can make this layer you know. And and so he's like okay. Well we run the shot clock back. We're going to run the clock down to accent and then I want to clear out and try to beat you man to the basket. And that's how he coached so the confidence that he instilled required you to have great self discipline so all the ways that I grew up playing in the coaches that I had they gave you great freedom but it also made you have to have such discipline where you had to be in shape like you say. Coach night will run us or impractical. I never ran a sprint. We came to practice and we were practice. Our forty five every day on an owner knows and now every drill in everything was intense right. Now if you get fatigued or tired doing practice then you better do some work on your own of two. Yeah but but that's that's how I grew up playing. That's how I learned the game. You Win Champs Shipping. You decide to go to the NBA. you get drafted by the Detroit. Pistons was it a possibility could have been somebody else. Weavings WANNA go to somebody. I want to come home I want to go to Chicago. And you wound up going into Detroit. Yeah I mean because growing up in Chicago Detroit saying to me right. It's like the the the the the Green Bay packers Detroit.

"You live. Say what you gotTa Talk. He's like what you mean. You know so you know. I HEARD HIM UP IN THE CORNER. Man Like you know. Are you telling me the truth? I told you the truth. I said Mike this. This is different than the way you described it. And he's like it's GonNa be alright and eventually it was because what ended up happening was I was a high school kid like all of us was where we say we wanted it tough but we really want to take the easy way here. We didn't want to go to class all the time. We didn't WanNa be a practice on time all the time. We didn't want to practice hard all the time and the only thing that coach was really making you do was do all the things that your mom and your dad was making you do at home and you thought when you got to college hassle freedom and he was like no no no. That's not how it's going like you're going to school every day. These are your classes and by the way somebody going to be checking to see if you in class and if you're not in class then show and those things helped me tremendously and not look back and I just say. I'm so lucky and fortunate that I had a coach in coaches who had the to coach me. They won trying to be my friend. They weren't trying to hang out with me. They was like look. This is what you gotta do. You got a good person you gotta go to school and you gotta go out there and compete now is it. What relief did you after you want to national championship like as a team? I know Bob and he running you. He he own s e e just only every day and you know you you always want their reward at the end. Yeah so for a team like y'all want it. That's the reward. Yeah I went through hail to exercise. I mean like Q. Q. Play for me you know in New York in in he knows the Cana coach that I was so when that when I say this he'll understand it to have great freedom. You also have to have discipline self discipline and what coach allowed us was great freedom. Now think about this when I say this we had no place we had no side out of bounds plays in the people that we played against who ran patterns like my high school coach. Our y'all had a pattern dolphins so they're Jesmyn. It's easy to to shutdown patterns. Because you know where the person's going to be nowhere to go. You know field goal percentage such and such you so you. It's hard to guard a person where you don't know if he going right or left you don't know if he can ready shot fake so the freedom that coach allowed us it made you have self-discipline which was extremely hard to learn how to resist making that fancy play right or how to resist taking that bad shot and I can remember. Come into the bench plan for coaching. Incur- remember me saying this right. You will sit down and say. Can you make a shot? You know game you down to you down to two minutes ago. We need a bucket. And it's like hey can you make a shot right now right and and if you say yeah. I da play for you and you better make this right but by the way. If you can't make this shot I remember we sit in the huddle right and coach Whitman goes. Where can you make shot right now? We go now coach..

Like we ain't going Indiana read and and and before you know it you know my mom was kind of shaking head and neither is like oldest is not good and and you know most most kids at during that period of time you know you you say you had the press conference. I made my decision. I'm going to blank school right. My mom called the press conference me and Herbert sitting there. She said my son has made his decision Indiana University. Oh Mom announced my mom and now has never heard no names. I never been to Indiana right. You know and it was like so this summer I made the team and I hadn't even graduated from from high school yet so I'm on a Pan Am team and we down there practicing and now I gotta graduate so. I'm afraid to ask coach night. Hey can I go to graduate from High School? Graduation do said what time y'all graduate I say well you know graduations one o'clock he said okay. Well be backed by seven. 'cause we got a night practice so I flew to. My graduation graduated then. Flew back for practice for the PAN emptying In the point where using Indiana us with coach night us like what did my mom and I get myself into. Oh that was tough coach by coach. That was day one. So so Mike Woodson Mike. Woodson was responsible for recruiting me. Yeah I was like I never forget like after the second week of practice I call it a move and you know we do right. I call them over and as a man.
