"None of my family went anywhere and as soon as I finished last year in university, it's the end of the 60s beginning of the 70s, so you can maybe imagine the time. I moved to Isfahan, Iran. Because I couldn't go to Mars, right? So I don't know. There's a feeling the analogy I'll say is like with a bloodhound. That once it's on the scent, I think this is true. I've never really had a bloodhound. But once they're on the scent, they stay on the scent. They don't lift their head and say, I think it's over there on that hilltop. Let me just do a shortcut. So I've tried to follow the scent of consciousness of the sacred of that special thing that makes sense and nothing else really makes sense. I tried to follow that my whole life and I ended up spending a lot of time in Asia, a lot of different parts of Asia and then decided to jump as high as I could from Southern California. The world was spinning and I landed in Thailand. Wow. Wow. It was something like that. And you live up in the mountains there? Yeah. And Chiang Mai area? Outside of China. I'm a mountain forest kind of guy. And there's a lot there that is important to me. And I've lived enough in the cities. Tell me about it. And you know, I do some wild animal rescue conservation work as well with Southeast Asian apes, and that's a big deal for me. Wow, cool. Yeah, yeah, so I built and have a sanctuary in management. Really? Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a lot there. Oh man. There's a lot there. So, you know, I can't do that in Malibu. Yeah. Yeah, definitely not. But I look 30 years Southern California. Yeah, me too. 32. Yeah, well, wow. 32. This is my first attempt at an escape from urban life, but I'm still dude. 30 minutes from the city, you know? To me, this feels pretty country. After living in Hollywood, all those years, but okay, that's fair. But when I get really far out, I always have to feel like, no, no, I need to be living out here. But then, you know, the practicality of how do you do that sets in. So this is okay, okay, but this is the whole point is about the adaptation to change. Which is really at the core of what I think we'll talk about today. In this whole thing, that. Two words that begin with C, kind of lock me into my focus. Consciousness that we've already mentioned. And the other is change.

"FM 97 7, your information station. With at least four members of the Seattle city council deciding not to run for reelection, there will be a major shift at city hall next year. But what does it mean for issues like crime and homelessness? Northwest news radio's Jeff pojo spoke with political strategists, Ron dot sauer. What do you make of it? Because we're going to have a very different council in the next year. We sure are. You know, it's interesting, isn't it? They certainly have been up against a number of a set of very challenging issues that they have not been able to resolve. And as a consequence, the ratings I have never seen the ratings for a generic CL city council be as low as this particular body of council members. And that may be a piece of what's kind of encouraging people to move on, okay? Like, for example, in soane's case, I'm not buying what she's selling, which is, I think she got out because she has a really strong primary opponent. This probably going to be her. And I think that that played into a number of these folks decisions, not to run again because they've looked at these numbers. They saw the ko mo poll. I mean, to be ranked at the bottom of a favorability that rivals Donald Trump in Seattle, I don't know how much lower you can go, Jeff. That is pretty low to say the least. Yeah. And what I'm talking about in the CDC app. So the political tea leaves were pretty clear that the Seattle voting constituencies looking for changes. We saw it in a change in the mayor's office a much more Herald is a much more moderate, pro business guy. The lady, I forget her name right now, Jeff, they've just got elected to the Seattle city council. It comes with a little bit more of a business background. Sarah Nelson, and that was starting to send a signal to the other council members that we all maybe what they were what they were touting wasn't going to work anymore politically. And at the point of that sphere, in my opinion, swamp was the poster child for all that was wrong with the Seattle city council in my opinion. Well, let's kind of run down the list here. I want Lisa herbold and Alex Peterson of all said they are not running for reelection. Deborah Juarez has hinted at it basically saying it's her last year. She hasn't made any official announcement, but everyone's saying that she's she's going to be out. And that is four of the 7 seats that are up for reelection this year and there are only 9 seats on the council. One more person jumps out, then you're going to have a majority shift. Yeah, isn't that something? I don't know in all the years I've tracked this in Seattle. I have seen so many incumbents declined to pursue reelection. "Coming up on 5 minute news. Tirade Nichols murder renews calls for change in policing. McCarthy to meet with Biden over debt ceiling. And drone attack on convoy in east Syria coming from Iraq. It's Monday January 30. I'm Anthony Davis. Across the U.S. state police have murdered roughly three people each day consistently since 2020, according to academics and advocates for police reform who track such deaths. Tirade Nichols is fatal encounter with police officers in Memphis, Tennessee, recorded in video made public on Friday night, is a glaring reminder that efforts to reform policing have failed to prevent more flashpoints in an intractable epidemic of brutality. Nearly 32 years ago, Rodney King savage beating by police in Los Angeles prompted heartfelt calls for change. George Floyd's execution in Minneapolis in 2020 summoned a national reckoning that featured federal legislation proposed in his name and shows of solidarity by corporations and sports leagues, all fell short of the shift in law enforcement culture, black people in America have called for. A culture that promotes freedom from fear, trust in police, and mutual respect. The 5 officers are now fired and charged with murder and other crimes in the January 10 death of Nichols, a 29 year old skateboarder, FedEx worker, and father to a four year old boy. From police brass and the district attorney's office to The White House, officials said Nichols is killing points to a need for boulder reforms that go beyond simply diversifying the ranks, changing use of force rules and encouraging citizens to file complaints. Still stuck in Congress is the George Floyd justice in policing act, which would prohibit racial profiling, ban choke holds and no knock warrants, limit the transfer of military equipment to police departments and make it easier to bring charges against offending officers. Joe Biden said he told Nichols mother that he would be making a case to Congress to pass the Floyd act to get this under control. House of Representatives speaker Kevin McCarthy will meet with Joe Biden at The White House on Wednesday for talks in the standoff over the federal debt ceiling and prospect for a U.S. default. Hardline Republican lawmakers are withholding support for a measure that would let the country pay its debts until Democrats agree to spending cuts going forward. The White House has said raising the debt limit is non negotiable, citing the risk to the U.S. economy from a default. Analysts are skeptical that the face to face talks between the democratic president and Republican leader will end a high stakes crisis where members of both parties see opportunities to score political points before the US Treasury runs out of money to pay its bills this summer. On Sunday, McCarthy said that Republicans will not allow U.S. default and that cuts to social security and Medicare would be off the table in any debt ceiling negotiations. But he added that Republicans want to strengthen the costly retirement and health benefit programs for seniors. A statement that The White House called a euphemism for cuts. The US Treasury this month activated extraordinary cash management measures to avoid breaching the $31.4 trillion limit on federal debt, imposed by Congress. But without an increase by early June, the treasury has said it may run short of cash to pay the government's bills, risking the biggest threat of default since a 2011 standoff. Biden had previously pledged to hold the meeting with McCarthy as part of a series of engagements with the new Congress. Biden has been sharply critical of McCarthy's Republican caucus. He characterized them as fiscally demented earlier this month, threatened to veto their legislation and accuse them of trying to balloon the deficit, favoring billionaires, raising middle class taxes and threatening popular benefit programs. Drones attacked a convoy of trucks in eastern Syria on Sunday Night, shortly after it crossed into the country from Iraq, Syrian opposition activists and a pro government radio station said. The strike comes amid heightening tension between Iran and its rivals in the region. It was not immediately clear who was behind the attack on the convoy in the Syrian border of bukamal, which is a stronghold of Iran backed militias. The Britain based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor, said the drones appear to have been from the U.S. led coalition, adding that they targeted 6 refrigerated trucks, the group said they were casualties and ambulances rushed to the area. The attack in eastern Syria came hours after bomb carrying drones targeted an Iranian defense factory in the central city of Isfahan, causing some damage at the plant. Last month, Israel's military chief of staff strongly suggested that Israel was behind a strike on a truck convoy in Syria in November, giving a rare glimpse of Israel's shadow war against Iran, and its proxies across the region. Israeli leaders have in the past acknowledged striking hundreds of targets in Syria and elsewhere in what it says is a campaign to thwart Iranian attempts to smuggle weapons to proxies like Lebanon's Hezbollah militant group or to destroy weapons caches. "Crime 16 here until 11 little use Okuyama launchers, Everybody 1967. How do you know what I'm so? Quick check in air traffic over the Middle East from the Persian Gulf north, if if action is impending notice to airmen know Tarr's would be issued pretty quickly by the United States. Two airlines that routinely fly in in that area. And if you don't know Uh, Dubai. The emergency is a major hub. And Qatar. Doha, Qatar is as well and so because it's around, you know 8 39 in the morning that part of the world Today, flights are all up. I mean by flights. I mean civilian. I mean, you can walk across Emirati Airlines. They have a whole bunch of the you know the giant. Three sixty's of three fifties when they're the two story things all those air up. Headed to Europe, so it's a normal air traffic day, including air traffic. From the Emirates and Carter into Iran. So the little puddle jumper flights from From think from Isfahan. But that go across the gulf. The one the one that the U. S Navy shot down that route. You know, 1988, that is ah. The frequent round and even though there's tremendous enmity between the Gulf Arab states in Iran everybody likes money. We like money. They like money. Iran likes money, so you can still fly from the Emirates into Iran, and there is a traffic over Iran is too said ever since that, little Lipsey do Where the Iranians shut down a Ukrainian airliner. Ah, lot of major airlines but a morning Iranian airspace. Um why? Well, just cause operation just cause that's that's what it is. S O u can find. A lot of Iranian domestics are flying there. Then, of course, see. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has its own airline. And that's how they fly to Bangkok, and that's how they brought Cove it into Iran was they were, they were flying to China for cheap electronics and stuff and and back in, but but anyway, bottom line Air traffic is normal. Right now. The sun is up in that part of the world on defy, discriminate and look just for military aircraft. I have a What do we have? Here? We have a royal Saudi Air Force C 1 30 in the air over Saudi Arabia. We have a royal heir apartment right? That was a Royal Saudi Air force. C 1 30 on then we have a Um, Royal Air Force Air boosts a 400. So So what? We've been seeing the last 10 days. Of tankers. U. S Air Force tankers. That's not what's going on at all. All right, well, aircraft carriers, you know, the only two nations operate nuclear aircraft carriers. One I'll give you hit. You're probably sitting in the United States of America has the largest Carrier fleet in the world. You can take all of everyone else's carriers Adam up and you don't have what the U. S Navy has, though. They're not all that at once In basically, it's about a quarter of strength. And they're all nuclear. And they all have catapult. Why is that significant? Well, because you can launch Heavier, more capable aircraft with more junk to drop. The British have probably just land launched the Queen Elizabeth and the Prince of Wales or first they've had like a 10 year gap since I've had an aircraft carrier But even then they have ski jump carriers and because catapults her complex, they're expensive, and they just want to do it. So anyway, they don't The U. S. Navy and one other Navy have nuclear catapult capable aircraft carriers that other navy lay Marine did it, Frantz The French navy, currently the Charlotte to go to which was which entered service in 2001. It is a nuke, and it has catapults. In fact, it's it's so interoperable. With the U. S. Navy that we frequently in the Mediterranean will do cross decking as it's called cross deck exercises or operations. And what that means is that ah U. S Navy maintenance crew with a spare engine. Goes to the Charlotte. The goal. Meanwhile, a French crew with a delicious assortment of meats and cheeses comes to the U. S. S. Nimitz, Ronald Reagan or whatever whatever is in the med. On, but what they do is the French fighter. The ref failed, takes off from their carrier, and it lands on the American carrier. It goes below decks, they do an engine change out. He goes back up. Hooks up to the catapult takes off. It is completely interoperable that I mean, in other words, a little T handle on French fire plains and aircraft from their carriers fits American carriers and vice versa. Also, the French Arresting wire and all that. It all works. So they do that. So France had to make a decision. And it was, um they spent a decade and a half thinking. This is really what's the plan? That they were literally going to share the carrier with the Royal Navy. They were going to co crew. The two British carriers. They Actually thought that was a good idea to two with two sovereign nations. We're going to operate two aircraft carriers. And effectively merged their two navies. I don't know how that idea made it out of the boardroom. I don't know. I don't know how. How the admiralty Except to offset the cost or something. Even then it's a bad idea, but it it died a silent death. Now the Royal Navy has his two carriers filled with Englishmen, not not a froggy in sight. That leaves the French navy in the lurch because at some point the Charlton goal a nuclear the only French carrier but a significant asset. It's gonna have to be decommissioned. So what's going to follow it well President of Met, Khan has said for sure that it's going to be nuclear. It's going to be bigger and from a distance. It looks just like an American carrier. It has catapults. It has the angle deck, arresting wire the whole thing, and it will be named Reportedly the Richelieu. The cardinal recently. Ooh, Um and it is going to enter service. Are you ready? Circle The date 2038 2038 17 years from now. Part of the reason for that slow construction is.
