"isaiah todd" Discussed on Chad Ford's NBA Big Board

"I guess red flags or concerns that there were about him going into college in maybe it's sticking because i think that he should be a lot higher on draft boards based off of his production. He's he's still only nineteen years old. There's not many guys that are six-10 that can shoot the ball like he does. And we have to factor in that. He was playing against grown men. He was playing in a professional league and The reports that you're getting out of g. league igniter all uniformly very positive about how he approached the game. Sir team eighty-one how coach billy was in all those things and look similar. Things said about evan mobely and the question mark that came in against him about usc and the question was was he board was part of it. And then you see him dominate the way the he dominated. Ucsc and say okay. When he's not bored he looks really good and probably not going to be bored in the nba. So again i have isaiah todd and my mock draft going late in the first round And and again. It wouldn't surprise me to see based off the feedback that again in scouts that they actually feel like scouting g. League night was much more apples to apples comparison than scouting a college basketball or scouting international basketball that it was very easy for them to gauge. How a player was playing in the g. league. What would translate them. What wouldn't at the next level I can tell you. There's tons of mb scouts that are rooting more. And more of these five star prospects go the g. league growled because i think they feel more confident in their scouting report coming out of it at the end and they do a college or international level he and he played well By all accounts and so Really interesting prospect for me. I can't see him. I was gonna say i can't see him. At least in my opinion he shouldn't go past thirty six with the under. I mean they are in a situation where they have a gazillion picks. Even though there's some redundancy with lot of the guys on their roster but they're in a position to swing for the fences i may even. Yeah they have. What's three three picks. Three picks three picks and a second round i. It doesn't make sense we're gonna pass them up with one of their three picks Love to see him and poco on the floor together. I it anytime. I could see poco on the floor with anybody. I'm excited. let's talk about florida. State's rake one gray a very unique player. Several like this now I i don't know for back of lack of a better term. They're like a point. Power forwards You guys that Have unique ball handling skills And playmaking skills in the body of traditionally nba power forwards at. You know draymond green in some ways the sort of patron saint of prospects like this but a guy that You know the more. I watched at florida state The more intrigued. I was With with his skill set what he brought to the table The the combination of strength and skill motor that he plays with At his ability to defend multiple positions He again seems like one of these swiss army knives that and you know florida state is one of those teams where it's really hard to like break out as a basketball player and and dislike. Put up huge numbers. That's not how this team is going to be coached. And not how. They play same with why. Sometimes it's a little hard to totally gauge. Scotty barnes You know on the same team. I think this is another guy who gets drafted in the thirties or forties and turns out to be. Everybody kind of wondering is going to get plays. He'll start playing immediately. Because i think defensively he can do that in. Everybody's gonna start asking like how did this guy slide in the draft What do you think about. Every quandary me as a unique bill for today's nba. He's listed at to sixty and then like you said with the florida state guards you know. They had times with him and on the floor together. And you like like what team has two guys. That are six eight six nine. I can kinda initiate the offense to make plays each other gray could be. This year's is his name is slipping my mind. That the guy your children mandate the as avi tillman. Yes exactly. that's exactly what i'm thinking. Yeah a guy goes to a team. That's in the playoffs and comes in and plays a role at me. Took the words my house so yeah. That's the role asean plan. I was i. Every time i watched soviet tillman and i had questions about him you know. Ironically he ended up thirty six on my big board last year. I think he ended up going thirty four so kind of right there but my whole thinking with him is he's going to be the guy that comes in and and and is productive right away whether it's upside is is particularly high. I don't know but you got drafted by. The right team is used in the right way and and i absolutely see that with ray quan gray. Let's talk about one last guy you a part of your expertise is international prospects and this is an international prospect from spain who actually played college basketball and had a huge sophomore season for loyola santee allama and he had a game in the In a conference tournament where he went thirteen for fifteen from the field Against army And just was in that game What do you like about Santiam is father by the way Also a former pro basketball player who played in barcelona. And then i two olympics i bang. That's something i did not know. So he was another player. That i had a chance to live and that was also in two thousand nineteen. It was under eighteen tournament so in the championship game of that tournament it was spain. Verse turkey and loose maghera out bring shimbun. Were in that game. Alabama was the best player in that tournament and polka chassis was also on their tournament. He actually won the he won the mvp of that tournament. And i believe that he signed with loyola early and that's why they were still able to get him. Because i think after that tournament if he wasn't already signed he's definitely a power five guys kind of slipped under the radar for a lot of people because people didn't watch them play that i think only played like ten games or something like that his freshman year. But he's someone that. I think could possibly. Here's name called on draft day in this going to blow people's mind because he's not on a lot of the mock drafts of big. Boris that i've seen but there has to be a team that has heavily scouted him. He's six eleven any shoes. two three. he moves well. he's a little light. But i think there's a place for him in today's nba. So he's he's definitely in my opinion one of the most underrated players in this draft. And someone who. Like i mentioned earlier could hear his name called in the first round and out totally wouldn't be surprised his his stats from a from an analytics point of view. Really impressive right. Twenty one points a gain ten rebounds a game two and a half assists a game And then you know you keep going right through it. He's averages a steeler game which is great for a big man. you know almost almost two blocks game Biggest question that i have about you know. He seems like he shoots the ball. Well there's always this analytics question in my back of my mind. That was the minute that i look. At their three. Point percentage. I look at their free. Throw percentage Because this seems to be one of the most direct correlations from college basketball to to the pros is your free. Throw percentage is going to be a better predictor of what sort of three point shooter. Yard the nba. Then you're three-point percentage and that's a little bit scary fifty one percent as a freshman got it up to sixty eight percent as a sophomore a little bit concerning also kind of a high turnover player For for a guy his size but the skill level is there you know. I actually watched that that army game. It was one of the first games that i had really tuned in to like really sort of watch him for a whole game besides highlights and i mean he couldn't have picked a better game to just just be what he looked like a looked like a top five pick in the draft in that game..

Santiam loyola thirteen three-point Boris last year six thirty four two guys Three picks Scotty barnes barcelona isaiah todd ten games 10 three today five guys two fifteen

"Basketball is also back titus. This is our next headline that we had to put out to the world's top international prospect. Igor millage not related to darko. We don't think Decided to take the college route and join the virginia. Cavaliers tony bennett. He said this is the best place. Igor did the best place for him to develop. His game was to go to play a college basketball with coach. Tony having heard that one before have heard a lot of people hating in saying that's not the thing to do but it's nice to hear the top international prospect. A guy who obviously gets it. His dad played on the croatian national team. I m team croatia. I love the croatian national team shadow. Mario super mario shouts dario saric shoutout to the croatian mos- art himself. You know what i mean. This is a great pick for college basketball. Thank you croatia. Thank you croatian basketball modulus. The world's everybody racket ditch just shut. Everybody that's koa. We appreciate you. The fact that it's virginia team certainly know where the because i think if you're if you are Trying to come up with a program to have a guy commit to that is very much and the the anti nba. The type professional basketball. Which isn't to say. That virginia can't produce great mba players. We know that's not the case they can but the style of basketball. The tony bennett. Plays basketball is not a style of basketball. The nba fads the haiti. Yeah so this is a big win for college basketball to have an international guy not only wanna play in college. I think the best place to hone my skills is it. Tony bit tony bennett. Land where Yeah we're we're trying to score fifty points a game and teams that way. So yeah this is great. I don't know anything about the kid. I i don't need to know anything about the kid this is. This is a big win for college basketball. And like i said it's it's going to have good. I assume he's going to be six nine stretch for They were compared him to jay huff. And sam houser. That was kind of what he was pitched to be or a luke. Maye in north carolina or walker kessler as bruce. Perot would call He's some somebody that can stretch the floor. And i mean it does seem like. He believes in defensive. Philosophy said that twice quote so anyone that says defensive. Philosophy recruit one. Their dad is definitely on top of them. Which i think is great. Yes that's That's good for fundamental basketball to be taught and also can be great for coach bennett. Because that's that's virginia basketball. Do you feel like there's a shift in And tony bennett. Approach here is. Is this a a a sign of things to come with. it is going to dip into international waters. Now maybe you can. Zag goes away from at tommy. Lloyd leaves gonzaga. there's now vacuum. Because i guess tommy lewis not going to do that at arizona. i don't know but it. Also maybe tommy. Lloyd like you go to arizona. We've talked about this before of some of the bigger jobs. It's it's not always i know. Arizona has recruited a ton of international guys recently. So this is actually going to happen. I'm just saying in general with the bigger jobs. There is more to it than just like you just recruit the best way more politics. There's so much more to it. You gotta politics so badly Which is like part of what got green run out of. Indiana was like like one of the big sticking points and the end is like he didn't get along with the indiana high school coaches and i think national league you're like why would that matter in the state of indiana. I'll tell you the same thing with ucla like when ucla job was open. I i was talking to a handful of people about the open. I don't know. I don't know how to say that without signing like a douche. You're just gonna leg trying to figure out where they're going to go with this. What kept coming up to me was like people are trying to figure out how much they want to deal with the compton magic like that. Because if you're taking the job you have to kind of get to placate certain people here and there. So maybe there's that maybe tommy lloyd's going to arizona. He doesn't have the pipeline internationally. Maybe tony bennett seeing this. And he's like my time is now i'm going to become the international and it's a good time to do it because at the end of the day. The international kids are learning basketball fundamental basketball. At a rate. That's maybe better than some of our kids because they're too busy playing prep school. Aau basketball is sort of stuff. There's no time to train. There's no time to work on your skills because you're playing games and look. It's great to play games. Playing games is obviously the best way to get into game shape but at the end of the day being able to work in trade and be skilled and have a base of foundational base. I think that's what's helping these international guys. And it's why luca danni can play at a what seems at times a turtle like pays but dominate. Because he has such crap fundamentals that you are literally the entire time. That's why people watch kyrie irving they're like how's he able to do this. He's so small house able to it's like because he has such a great base imbalance and foundational skills that he can. It's a little bit of space is a sliver it's like that's so much. International players are taking the fundamentals of american basketball. And they're doing better than us at times and it. Tony and and the ultimate twist of irony kyrie irving so good because he has a better understanding of physics. Everyone else shockingly second. How did that work. But i think this is great for tony bennett. This is great for virginia basketball. It's also great because if you are one of these kids. That can't be luca danni. It's play and be pros a fourteen year old. You're like i can go over and play big time american basketball. And that's worth it because it's gonna give me more eyeballs play in the nba. Well i mean it will. How's how's the g. league. Nineteen we know. What's driving saying. Did i mean how many games that anyone watch that team. I know people said it was a huge success that the bubble the was a huge success. But how many people watch you know isaiah. Todd it's not about jalen green. I know everyone says he's going to be a i pick but isaiah todd was from virginia. I wanted him to go to you know kentucky and just see what would happen as a recruit that i've kinda fell in love with reminded me of a k. K. d. type. I didn't see any of him. I don't think i'll one highlight. I wanted to which. I guess like the argument against that would be. Who cares if you saw what matters is the scouts. Am so i mean of. And they're going to draft him and his drabbest is all the kids off. I mean we're we're. He's not a big navi he probably could also as we know. The draft stock isn't entire. Isn't everything the brand plays that the eight and the brand. I still think college is is the answer for the brand played. That's a. that's a mani bates. I don't under this is this is frustrating. The more we talk about it like just stay committed to michigan state. And you go to the. We all know you're going to do it and then you get you get the best of both worlds. Do you get the money. I'll ask you but do you think i care about the magic. Do you think. I wanna watch magic games america. No i don't. I really don't but you know why do because of coal anthony. Why because he went to carolina have one of the worst. It was part of one of the worst teams in north carolina. History of team. That let clemson beat them on their home floor. First time ever in history. And guess what. I still support me watch and play. And that's because he's a carolina guy for life. You know what i mean. You need kobe brand play. And i support it. That's what you gotta have like the home base. You can go back to when things aren't necessarily going well or just just to clear phone call anthony and i'm not playing. I have a bad season or something. I know i can go back to carolina. Everyone's gonna kiss my feet. I'm just there for like a week. I'm getting some open gym. Carolina twitter accounts put now. Graphics are hartnett and saying you know it's pictures of me getting some run in with the guys. And then i feel great about myself and i'm like oh yeah i am beloved. You know if you what the likes if you wanted to trend money bates. This was the play. Can we talk about our good friend. Mark out for lease and Flying to in sun as we love to mention on the show Do you wanna talk about headlines that were not shocking..

"Is probably not going to be an NC double A. in ten years and even with him doing this if he doesn't go far enough, there still may not be an into blamed ten years. I mean, the the question is this I. Mean I don't think it's a coincidence, four gigantic defections to the G. League and they're getting paid. You know relatives peanuts says to the pros couple of hundred thousand here and there. I don't think it's a coincidence that conversations happening again at the same time, you know RJ Hampton Lamelo Ball, go over to Australia. So you're starting to see these floodgates star to open up and again tick tick tick they gotta figure this thing out sooner rather than later Brandt Brandon Jennings started all that about ten years ago. Didn't he did he did I mean he had no choice because he didn't he didn't qualify academically to play Tarazona. These kids are actually going when they have the option to play other schools and I've said listen. Is College basketball going to take a hit missing Isaiah Todd Jalen Green and I Day Sean Knicks is a really good player who's going to go to UCLA. Yeah but it was fine without Lebron. So let let's not get carried away. You're still gonNA watch duke no matter WHO's plan you're still going to watch Kansas no matter WHO's flying my bigger concern is why is Adam Silver doing this? Because if he wants to, he could pay fifty kids two hundred grand apiece if he wanted to. If he really truly believes that it's a better avenue to go to this new G. League developmental program than it is to go to college I don't think he's going to do that I think we're GONNA see five to ten kids a year from now do this you league program especially of Jalen Green gets drafted high and some of the other kids get drafted high ultimately that's the biggest measure of success. Why would he by that feeds him I mean you know there's there's a tension or align that you don't cross the NBA currently has a free developmental system called college basketball, right? Why would you screw that up I? Don't get why Adam silver is doing this because you're at the marketing is much better. You already have jalen green coming in to. A lot of the NBA GM's called me right after it happened jailing green they were like we don't want this. We'd much rather have a kid who's been in college for a year and already has. The brand and he's much more ready than being in the G. League Developmental Program We don't know at that point they were scared of who going to coach it or it's going to run it. They felt like it's much better to have a kid socially is well in college for a year Then Jonas g league developmental program where they're going to be around four or five other kids not play competitively all the time against other schools. So I listen I, don't get. APODACA dynamically. Want about whether these student athletes are pending classes, but you don't want to deprive the opportunity of of a four year education whether they choose to complete it or not is up to them but just like with Hall of fame candidates, the professor, the the rate of success of making it in professional sports is is abysmally low many are called fewer chosen, and if you go to if you're going to create a an exodus from big time college basketball to a minor league system, you can be putting a lot of African American men. Into situations where there neither playing professional ball at the end of the day or getting the right or getting a college education which is essential to meet. The Marketplace Listen Jalen Greens probably going to be fine. I mean he's terrific player..

"There's no prizes for second place. You don't get some kind of. Reward for trying art issue. Get the guy or you don't get the Guy, but you think about all the time away from your family away layers things you could be doing, but that's our job to I've always enjoyed when people have been straight up and say listen. This is probably going to be a really or get now. Do you want to keep trying and you can prove that? This is the right place off for for me than than go ahead, but I'm just being straight up. which you know that it's probably eat your fourth and fifth on my listen. It's GonNa. Be Really hard to get to number one. I got one more topic before I. Let you go. and all of you can weigh in. We'll start with Anthony. This New Jersey League thing. Jalen Green. Chooses to go to this new program. Isaiah Todd. Chooses to go to this program. They're paying Greens in excess of five hundred grand a year. I wrote something I. Don't think this is going to a college basketball. That much because I think we. We all knew that the rule was gonNA. Come back in at some point to for kids to be able to go from high school to the NBA, and now you're having to or maybe a couple more eventually, you can have eight ten twelve. It. Is this what I can't figure out guys UAE Adam? Silver is doing this. Is He doing this, you think. To market the League in making the G. League better is doing it so that the RJ Hampton to the world don't go to New Zealand. Is He doing this? My personal thought and I. Don't know if this is right or not is he put all his cards on the table a couple of years ago, saying. He was favoring the rule to go back to to where kids go to high school. And now he's thinking himself, or he's hearing it that maybe not. That's not the best thing, so he's GonNa. Try this instead to get kids not to go straight to the league, but at least a year. After high school to go to leak I I don't know why what what are your thoughts on this anthony? League itself or or or the situation I mean this is cross college basketball you. You coached in the League, and in the last few years. I think you have a different perspective than most people of. Is this good for these kids, or is it just something where again listen? Happen Anyway. What's the big deal we dealt with? In College in Cali just Fi. Yeah I can't say I know whether whether or not it's going to be I think that'll be on an individual basis, but my my thought. I can't begin to tell you know what the Commissioner's thinking or what? The G. League was thinking, but.

"Know how we come this conclusion. I mean how are we? How lease set down batch of figures down. And let's see where's noticed. I don't think you'll be able to evaluate the NBA Academy sits in the G. League the three four five years down the road rules. What's going to happen. Physical to be good. It's going to be bad. That's why I don't WanNa be selfish and say this is bad for 'cause basketball if it's GonNa be good for your appraisal will be good for a few and I don't think like everything else is going to be what everyone thinks. It is because a lot of guys that get a lot of recognition in college. Go on and go to the NBA. Shift a lot of unknown guys in the four or five years you said. What school did they go to this conference? What I'm saying. None of dishes absolutes. We all have an argument for our positions I just don't WanNa lose the opportunity. I don't want to be emphasized. The AMATEUR MODEL in Educational Benefits. I calculated that a scholarship for kid who goes applaud and stay for four. Years is a little bit on the two hundred thousand dollars. That's a lot of He's taken on the academic tutor in the Mitchell went in the medical pause expense of traveling. The part of growing up in between the psychological counseling all of the involve up with us to meet us a lot of money. I remember Nazi. Father told me son. I don't have these opportunities because I did get my education and he says but I have absolutely no months to help provide education opportunity. You gotTA figure it out yourself you either gotta go academic athletic well. We know what helped today can do it. Whenever did I think we're pretty good. 'cause not only do impacted a gazillion guys in your four. Hundred Years Coach. Even though you look like you're forty years old but my point of view is that that's a lot of value and I never hear anyone talking about the value of education. You to what happens if you catch. Well there are still Gary Indiana. That's where I'm at some point. You somehow another that's lost in the shuffle and a guy like me would almost be a could. I is attached if I act like as in think that it was a good opportunity for youngsters who wants to realize his dream deep down inside. Communist is not everybody. That's not here. We have no catchier going and I think we have this. We have done them a disservice by not allowing them to have an opportunity. That's why I'm appreciative and respectful with NBA note. I just don't want a Value One to promote another has gotta be. We all sat down. Stay Steph in all looking at what's best but overall sport young people. I believe that we can put somebody on the moon. I believe we can figure out a way how to make this work again. Having a man I mean I i. Do you know how much I respect to have for you? How much I appreciate in. We go back a long way in that. You always great perspective. Take care of yourself man in hopes how about how about giving a shout out to those medical workers your workers that are putting their lives on the line every day. There's that's dedication that's how it works. Then it's what these what they are doing to l. down for those workers educates. I'm sorry the medical in the central workers ties unbelie in in the the The the emergency People say are on the line we need to be talking about the lifting him down. Thank you for a job. Well done. I'm with you there I stay well. Great catching up culture. This what what what what would you. What would you take on board? There's gotta be some way of coming together because I do believe that the NBA is doing their best interest. And said I've said this forever? Man I get it. We all want to do. What's best for kids? I get it but at some point we got to. We've gotTA protect our game and our institutions. I believe that I think we do and I think conversation between the NBA and the NC double a. Or wherever you got to have it with needs to happen. It needs to happen fast. I don't think I don't think these guys Isaiah Todd or Jalen green five other guys go onto the G. League or wherever they WANNA go. Herts college basketball in the lease Other than other than what coach? Hamilton said if if guys that have no shot give education at hurt society but isn't gonNA hurts out fast you did I. Did I talk about breaking the cycle? I can migrate thing when I was at Long Beach. State was going to graduate because there was a bunch of first generation rises. I love that man just seeing how Sidon Mike Concern is look I understand as in business and they want to build the they want to build a brand they WANNA make themselves. Look they guys. We're going over to Australia. Guys would go over to China as opposed to go over there. They can stay year one. Are they going to have the infrastructure like you know what what? What do they have in place because it's not just having twelve players? It's not just the two hours they're working out what other things are in place. These kids are going to have to boot. They're going to have to find. Housing doesn't have to pay for expensive. You know they're gonNA have to take care of themselves for feeding. They're going to move their families. There's a lot to. Is there going to be an infrastructure at my biggest concerns? Exactly you said coach upset is great for for Jalen Green. I love as Antarctic. He's going to be. He's got a chance to be a good player. But you know what we thought about other guys. I thought we thought jobs can be all right. You know he's late first round draft choice lentils you know that leads hard man that's Lebron you'll get leagues one thing stains the League's something else so like like for these guys. They all think it's easy. What was the kid? Malachi Richardson who played at Syracuse That one good long. Run and get dresses at elite. Now go through. We survived no Lebron. We Survived No. Kobe revived no garden. Yet we survive Tracy McGrady. I mean look. There are exceptions. Knows guys who the outliers. I'm walking I'm more concerned for guy that was in it so long that you're gonNA see guys to say you know what? I'm I'm I'm just GONNA put my legs in one basket. Baskets take it away. We're connected changes station in life. Make enough money where and be up to save enough money my that former players that made millions of dollars don't have any money yet alone five hundred. That's really three hundred. Then you gotta move then you gotta find a place to live. Then you gotta eat and you've got to buy a car. You know what that money goes away pretty quick. That's my concern. I'd love to see we could find a way for the NBA. And the answer to beat. I'd love to find a way if we have to figure out of this. You know and I'll really make sense because I I don't think it. I think it will impact so few is talk. It's Florida state man. They WANNA gazillion games like who's really just dropping dimes for them. You what do you think you're in Indiana. I forget money offered would have made a ton of money. Guys would have made got Indiana pretty good. I think Ohio state really good. I think Ohio state might be the place. Truthfully where guys are GonNa Make Money Kentucky. Obviously I I don't I don't know like reason. I say Ohio State and resides. Say Kentucky. A lot of business in those cities. But let's let's talk about that corona virus so many unemployed businesses going down. You'll get money is to college yet. I don't know how you gotTa be a hell of a fans in this in this economic world that we're going to be living in for a long time. It feels like to me so I think I think the most I think the thing that is going to be interesting is this. 'cause you just mentioned a ton of guys that we thought were really good that tyler light as a one year next thing you know. He's the I it's great in theory wonderful opportunity for Kids College basketball survives that I'm really interested in. That's why they Assad where he was a great question because a year from now but year from now is going to be interesting it. You're Robbie Hummel has great stories of playing in the biggest leagues in Europe. And Paul found. The on Gauguin is on ice or not. You know I'm really interested in a year from now. What Minor League basketball? Because that's what it is. I mean it's not AAA state What what are you more even be voting to be trip? Because here's here's young and I agree with you. But like. Here's my thing is you know. We had teams all right. You get the third week of preseason practice guys about hat they WANNA play. They WANNA games man and and they wanna get could mean teases. These guys are GonNa play twelve games all seasons. I'm that's what I'm saying. Twelve eight all the stuff you just said. "Don't think that that's what the intentions are. I don't either but I think I think that's what's happening. You know the interesting thing is that of that. Elite level should have that opportunity. And maybe that should be a I. Don't I don't know how to make but I'm saying is I do think it's a problem. We all started signing kids and then this time of year we find out that they're not going to be with that. I I like to work that out. I think that's to be worked out where we don't intact these if you'd have some cooperation between everybody that happens a little bit baseball here. Here's my question for your coach and you. I've been out of your living at every single day. It's like anything else. We see a couple of kids go out and put their arms around this. And that's great. My concern is what happens to kid. Says you know what I'm just going to go to the NBA Academy any stops going to school and then if things don't work out because all of a sudden you know there's going to be more guys saying well. I'm going to take that route. And and they're not getting five hundred thousand thousand might be getting seventy five thousand dollars. Fifty Thousand Dollars. Nate Chase that thing for two years then they have nowhere to go back to because they're trying to create this. Kademi and again you know. You're held to your choices. But my concern is that we're going to have a generation of kids that are chasing their dream and that's great but they have no landing spot and that to me where it was important. My guys graduate. You know to me that you know the NBA is a business and I understand that businesses to build up the G. League their businesses to make themselves more attractive. Like they don't want to take is right out of high school to the NBA because ownership doesn't want it veteran players don't want it because that's takeaway jobs this way gives them. What was the gap year and then they can choose who can make it. I mean what what what's your take on that am. I mean it just concerns me philosophically. You know I'm an amateur education a Mos- sure I value that process. I don't WanNa be selfish. It take away an opportunity if someone else may have another way. I don't want to be that way however I think that what we've seen in the last number of years whenever you have. We have about hundred kids who have now put their name in. I WANNA test the water positions. You have another group of guys who've already declared in their hiring agents so now we not talking about seniors in the European guys so we need proximity have. Let's say over one hundred fifty and sixty kids. Maybe maybe hunting seventy cushion two hundred in a coup with only sixty positions possibly available. And then you have really only fifteen or twenty. Twenty or twenty-five the actor will make it so now you have another pool of kids who have gone to the process not in school in the D. League or G. League or a cup of coffee somewhere and they twenty seven twenty seven years old married with two kids with no education. I don't see and that's multiplying. Every year time. A hundred so five six years. I think we create a problem. I L I WANNA I wanNA CALC- the process which is out. I don't think anything is absolute. We have a processing guys get drafted evaluated. Some of those guys. Don't make you have more guys that they would not recognize early now best players in the league so it's all over the place. I still want to fight for the educational process and amateur process because that means a lot to the masses. But you got six hundred six thousand kids individual in basketball seven hundred. Maybe and you only have twenty thirty GonNa play the next level. I'm more concerned about what's best for the big group and we lead opportunities for that small group. They realized the opportunity. But we cannot create a scenario where the big group station in Rainbow when they can't find the rainbow and then there's no pot but don't have that many opportunities available but it seems that we're putting an awful lot of emphasis on that. So I like to have some compensation will we all can figure out what's best for everybody right now. I don't want to say too much about the AB Academy. Because I really don't totally understand off what they're doing but I do know this. The education process in amateur has worked for people. Like you and me and that guy big rig headset right there. I don't WanNa miss that model up. I think that's important in. It's really for six thousand kids. Mankind's basketball five thousand and seventy seven hundred seventy of them you know is good for them. I think the educational process is devalued across the board. When you look at I want kids get hanging out. I I got no problem. I want kids to have opportunities up their likeness but when the argument is made that nobody gets anything college. Kids are free labor. It drives me nuts because they are education does meet Sunday but I think across the board letter people dismiss the value of an education. They swell missed about your scholarship here again. I don't I don't know if it's being dismissed. I think that we haven't we have conversations like what we're having and there's a misconception of what kids them ginning now that. Ncwa has been the cost of attendance. Opportunity say kid. Who has the pell grant gets about six thousand dollars correct? Yes whatever the cost of attendance. Is that the kids if you qualify above fried so most of my kids who are disadvantaged most are they get six thousand but Pell grant and they get another six. Probably eight thousand cost of attendance in some schools in different areas where the cost of living is higher. Get more so you have the kids. Were maybe twenty thousand dollars. Fifteen thousand dollars above the scholarship. You Straighten yes above above your scholarship and you know as well as I do. We had some of that with many years ago. We'd been happy camper is. This is something that has the initiative on the NC Double A. I think was a pretty good attempt to try to find a way to help. Help kids who will let sports now. That does not mean that one. Two three four five kids on campus. Then there's a misconception. The list there's about I checked records as about nineteen schools in America. That make money nineteenth. Now see what happens is you see. Michigan's two hundred thousand Tennessee Alabama football game it but one of the reasons is I think Monday slowing just flowing it away. They don't realize the minute has made it. Schools IS DENYING. Reports the scholarships travel for everybody. Now that's true. There's a fax. The only nineteen goals in America. Make month me everybody else. Can sometimes you get something the state but no one is making the money so that for whatever reason is projected that everyone's making right totally days. Yeah there's no people people think that well let let let let me go that the average basketball attendance across the board in College basketball is less than six thousand. So when I'm at bowling. Green Mega sleep sows we agenda. Dinho. Six Thousand Survey Everybody Assumes Colleges is Alabama Colleges Florida state full. You know what I mean and it's just not it's it's it's it's a fact now. I will say this to me. Anyway when it's impossible to change that with the big ten network even fifty million dollars will your young big ten. That's the thing that was but that money goes that money goes to the university that one is going to buildings projects on campus. So but now but now you're talking about that. Yep You know whenever that money comes in. Oh if you if you go now put a land aligned. Budget now is very easy to snow. We all the money's gone you know when you have. Let's say twenty sports on campus and you got eight hundred. Scholarship athletes that traveled elstein ships in everything that goes involves Tweeted tests.

"For him. Playing Greg. Ads are turned everything author hard. Deterrent down right. I mean the G. League in learning to be a crawl or going to be good options yet. Not sure for sure. Not all we think about what was going to be best my family. Ooh Ain't said my dream has always been playing. Have you and to be successful in. How hard was it to make some colder coach? Howard man coach. How is a wonderful God and When we made that phone call you know expecting understands Of course mockby But you know he respects on that I. I can't imagine I can't imagine because I'm sure he developed a really strong relationship so what they let me ask. What did they tell you? Sorry you're going to be in this academy was it starts You know when do you move? I guess it's in? La Wendy move. I mean I just the whole thing kind of get most I mean right now. Trust that no the league will make whatever the best decision for our safety with a given certain circumstances world right. Now we're going through growing briars and lawsuits really move around right now. So so are say right now. Is Area Jay Green? Just did the same thing I did. You ever talk to him. That you relationship Did you did you ask? I am a man like that reliable. We'll talk about this clown saying canes always Moscow. Huge Room Compete. Were A grade. Of course. That's not something that we haven't religion on according to always compete. What's the one thing like you said right at the end of this year? What's the one thing to get permission? Like what's one thing? I see is you're going to be up to do. I'm going to be ready ready to you. Know get stronger learned the NBA game with twenty four seven. Goes Y'all your play twelve games? So what's the one thing you want to get out of this then this year? I'm going to be more pro than I am now Just learn how to Pearl to take away from this the NBA's backyards learn how to be a curl young man. Do they tell you who might coach? No I haven't heard we're on my coach coach bits. Maybe China's going to be working with US daily so I I would love to have you on a year from now because I think this is fascinating. I think you guys you know the NBA. Pecans have gone to the NBA high school. But you guys are blazing a trail when you look ahead and you try to guess. This is going to be what is seen like. How how do you see this playing out on the court that type of thing for you? I mean I see doing what we've been doing it. I mean that's Glaucoma. Play hard given out every time and while the crowd is much know myself in Jones team thing. The word shooter amateur suit. They say you're not gonNA play get straight Geely. Tedious guys for travel. Country are go out of the country place and get dried well. We'll see we don't have the skilled worked out yet on versus due to the things that are going on right now share hardy man. I'm happy for you and your family I got to know is as through Ud this nation stash on our training camping. He's A and I'm not gonNA Barish but he's great kids. Great Young Man Rate Family and I know how important is you? Help your mom and I know that you know what this is really smart. You will have an academic component to this as well so you'll be up to pursue a degree. Yes they're giving us a scholarship. Were online so actually do online classes as we turn? That's good because that's really important. Your your bigger than basketball. You know all the Times I've been around you likes basketball is what you love. You have so much more in your life. Potentially the wall. You know it's great that you're you chase your dream of all but your a bright guy that you know your mom raised to have a good balance and everything to do so I wish you nothing but the best thing some guys aren't here's the I remember conversation. I Avenue at at ACC Media Day. In and I know you have strong opinions on the value of education. Making sure. Kids don't just put themselves in small box so when you heard about this NBA Academy and obviously it's going to give certain guys tremendous opportunities. But what's your biggest concern for? Effect is concerned is that we have a legitimate discussion. What all parties involved so that. We don't find ways in our own ways trying to yup I initiative to create issues for each other. I think we all I think we all want the same thing but I get the impression that we are not sitting down and trying to work things out where we don't conflict with each other. I mean I I see that the NBA. I'm assuming they WANNA try to create some opportunities for guys who may be might not want to go to college and they feel like one done thing is is only helping guys who who going to school and don't really want to be there. I mean I'm I'm just assuming that I don't know you. GotTa be careful. Sometimes when you don't know all of the inflammation everybody's putting into Friday making certain decisions but my concern is that we have an amateur system. We have an education system and we have a professional system. Now it seems to me we devaluing except corners of the education system. And I don't want I don't think that's dangerous. I think that the amateurism has worked for many years in conjunction with education system that has given a lot opportunities like Linda Hamilton. To people to further their life have a better way of life. As without going it's in education. I just don't want to be where we put in so many much emphasis on getting to a place that that has a limited number of opportunity now. I'm all for kids. Who feel like they. They are interested in realizing their dream. Coming out of high school. I'm okay with it but but now and I don't even this I don't want to cross this land but am I looking. Are we saying that? Now we have a vehicle that NBA is now recruiting. Kid is is that is that well. It's it's to me. It seems like they went after certain. Kids what do you think you remember that. Say This I mean. Didn't we have this before? Kobe Bryant Lebron James and the number of guys that didn't go to college I mean. Somehow they knew that they were GonNa make it in the NCAA. I don't know if they were recruited or not it's different they're going right to the NBA. But I would say this whole thing. We just talked is day. Todd boat only are they being recruited? I guess it. All in conjunction with being recruited the monetary offer is beyond anything that has been out there earn. Dan. Dan's use your online. Whether or not I mean Jalen Greens GonNa make five hundred. Supposedly is as God's GonNa make four hundred. But here's the thing like the Glenn is your big thing Leonard. Like here's dead. You put everything in one one boat. Like why conserves the G. League end up having to two rounds of draft let doesn't try to get sixty kids in this thing eventually this NBA Academy? Or I mean like to me. Where's the value of that college experience? That will help these guys And not just put them in a small box but I still think. I think there's a way to make it work for everybody. You know I. I don't WanNa pooh-pooh it when I don't really understand everything was going on. It's just that I don't know how much get my education to me. And as the whole culture of my fam- I go to schools for Muslim seventh grade. My father today ninth grade but me going to college. My brother goes to college. He gets his degree. The degree with it wasn't professional basketball player but he played college basketball. Adopted my brother Barry. John does because his kids go to cars. They get their degree. My sister go to College. Her son goes so. I I tell you that but it seems as though that's lost in the shuffle now on an NBA side. You know my only concern is that appears to be about approximately five hundred. Nba Opportunities. And I believe every year you can probably have. I must say generously. Twenty-five players have an opportunity to go to the NBA negative that a fair number close. Thanks yes okay. So but I'm saying that you we got six thousand kids playing college basketball at our level so we deal not lead of the elite. I don't see anything wrong with the elite having elite artillery. I mean I'm okay with I just don't understand why we can't coordinate this with and we get something that really really works because I I don't want to speak out a term because I don't know with all involved process. I know that he should have an opportunity to realize their dream if they inch. Now I think it's a little bit of a problem. I respect Jalen Green. He signed within about. Now it's probably a bit of a problem if you sign over Communist team and then make your mind up. Coniston has absolute no way to recover from the has to be some work out where we don't put each other in bad situations. I if you understand what I'm saying. I'm not tired because he has a right to make a decision but I wish that decisions would be made so that we don't impact these. That makes any sense that it you can hear me but it appears to me that it appears I'm with you. I don't know all the rule on all the reasons but it appears to me that the NBA in conjunction with the G. League is doing the exact opposite like it. It appears to me that they're giving a giving a big blank you to college basketball by doing. That's the way it appears to me. Well I I.

"You ever feel weird about that when you watch when you're listening to music though and you like a song but then you feel guilty that you're like I have no idea a what they're saying and be what this song is about? Yeah or it's worse when you love it because you think it's about something and then you find out if that's not bad at all. I used to think Anthony Kiedis red. Hot Chili peppers under the bridge was kind of like a story or he's lonely but it's about drugs it's like doing doing crack under a brace. That's basically all it is and it's like equating that to a break-up of mine and then suddenly like stupid That was Yeah there's a lot of those songs. Yeah Yeah Yeah I know because I'm a musical guy you know suck at singing. I try my wife said. She liked it now. She hates my thing but all like when we first started dating. I'd say this song reminds me of you. Get through some of the lyrics and she's like I went back and listen to that. Is You think of me. That's not very nice. I'm sorry I should probably listen a little bit closer first advantage text line three one nine nine six three one nine nine six the NC double a. And we got this news yesterday which Alien Green and then another one Isaiah Todd top thirteen RECR- preps player in the country. He signed this morning to play in the G. League so another big time player And I'm reading the story about About the quarterback that is is going to transfer looking at transfer because well. Here's a legitimate reason. He's probably not going to start. You know he gets hurt last year. Freshman quarterback comes in is actually pretty good so you I get why he did it. I mean you understand why he wants to transfer. They're they're not apps they're not like ruling anything out yet but Jt Come on that out. they're not ruling out a comeback yet for him maybe coming back but they are going to help them through this process but the head coach. Clay Helton said he's not ruling it out we've been working with. Jt and his family and as well as our compliance office to help him navigate the process of entering his name and the transfer portal so he has a big to me Colfax. That's a legitimate reason. He was the stud he gets hurt. And then Slovak's comes in and he becomes the PAC twelve offensive freshman of the year and they have penciled him in as the starter now some might say go beat him ow in competition. Well okay. It is fair to say this. What if you have two guys that are really really good? That are like they could both be. Nfl quarterbacks right but they're on the same team and we never know that we never know the backup could've been could've been an NFL quarterback because we never got a chance to see that it's kind of like the jalen hurts to attack viola situation. He was the star studded. He gets her to comes in and he looked at him. He's like one of the big time prospects now so Jalen transferred and he's probably going to get drafted so I get what you're saying if you're saying well just go beat him in competition. But what if the like the margin is so thin that you're just like you know what we're going to go with assault at the end of the season because this is your chance? This is your audition for the NFL. If you're playing for USC at a high level you've got a shot to play in the NFL but if you're as a backup what what does that look like. Do you get drafted that I mean. That's the difference between thousands upon thousands of dollars. You know if you don't get drafted so looking at the transfer portal while. I agree with this but they are going. They're relaxing everything. Man I mean players are going to be able to and again. We'll find out for sure at the end of this month. I believe if they're going to you how they're going to be doing that because it used to be. You are sitting out a year and then they kind of changed it to get transferred. Then they changed it to wealth. You have a legitimate reason for transferring you know. Maybe some bad stuff was going on there But now they're trying to flat out say doesn't matter whatever you transfer for you get to resume playing that next season. Obviously you can't get in trouble and you gotTa Keep Your Grades Up. So those are those are things to to be noted. I'm thinking about that and I'm thinking about the Jalen Green thing and obviously this latest player. Signing what is going to happen with the NC double a. In the next ten years now obviously with the jalen green that's basketball specifically football doesn't have to worry about a minor league type situation or or something like what this new G. League initiative is But it's worth it's worth wondering what the future of the NCWA looks like now in a perfect world. We're able to. I mean right now. Your yeah we're we're still going to have great college basketball. We're GonNa have great college basketball players. Chris Dempsey told us yesterday that you're only going to see how how many players you're gonNA see. Is it GONNA be ten? Is it going to be fifteen? He's six ten one of the top players in the country is currently ranked number twelve on some lists Jalen. What does this indicate for John's tenure at Michigan I want congratulated Juwan and his coaching staff for land in this top tier talent and John Beeline for example did an amazing job directing the University of Michigan Program I'm forever grateful to everything he did for the program and even trying to welcome back members of five while doing so he recruited a different type of player out of high school and here's what I mean Ziemba he recruited the type of players that would be oh campus for a couple of years not necessarily kind of one and done type prospects and he was able to win like that you see schools like Gonzaga for example consistently good because those are the type of players that they were able to recruit and I love Tim Hardaway Junior cares levert trey burke who went on to be college player two year Nick Staus Kiss Glen Robinson the third but what ends up happening is when you're coach K.? "Problem which is condoleeza rice and the rice commission at large asia so this is other. The rice commission decided that they should do. They're like well. Why don't we just you know make these guys get bachelor degrees. That's seems like we'll get rid of some of the riffraff out here and you're like condoleeza. Some people don't have college in the cards right and they may be a very smart person that wants to help someone out that does not really check out which comes back to why the rights commission has not work. You can't get good guys to tell bag is how to do their business. You gotta get bad guys to figure out what bad guys are up to allow suicide squad so nope bumped the rights commission. Let's get every cheater. That's ever cheated in college basketball. That has the commission yes and let let's get godfrey poured yeah. Let's run this thing the patino commission i agree right like that's the only way this works. Let's get dead shot in the boys aka rick pitino. Let's get him in there and get them in a room and say. How does this work work. How do we stop this. What is reasonable. What is rational. What is really the number that these guys need to get him there while we're gonna work out maybe thirty five thousand dollars as nike. Thanks and let's figure it out because the rights commission everything that they've done is basically wrong s- everything did like silence of the lambs ship rick patino is is the serial killer explaining s surcharge operates right. Yes and i think that we should be on that committee as well because one we're willing to say we know that it's oh. We know how it's happening. Yeah yeah for sure <hes>. I'm gonna. I'm gonna defend in say a little bit and i really hate that. I have to do this because i don't want to but <hes> i. I'm not blaming the devil <music>. I'm blaming the rice commission for suggesting such a dumb idea but but i don't think it's dumb an idea in the sense that lake i see where they were coming from that there is a problem if you go to any hey you've in the world and you watched like who's the number number one player in the country right now. I don't remember who <hes> <hes>. Let's say isaiah todd. I know twenty twenty zero the todd twenty twenty class <hes> if if you go if you go to a event just watch isaiah todd walk into a gym and then just watch like who comes up to him during that time there there are a lot of shady motherfuckers that are gonna come up and start talking to him and i say this from experience ten years ago when it was happening to greg oden and we're thirteen years old we're going to these a._u. Tournaments and there's not a lot of people around and then suddenly when we're sixteen years old like just the scuzzy est. Motherfuckers on earth are suddenly popping up everywhere so i think like i i. I assume this is still happening. It's even gotten worse. I think that they say it looks at this and says we gotta figure out what is the common denominator with all these mother fuckers they all probably dropped out of high school entered trying to their get rich quick scheme to con like seventeen year olds into trusting them <hes> so they thought let's do this bachelor's degree thing and that will lead them out and there will be easy and we can package it so like we're looking after the kids because we value education we are. We are college system where we want to do the players do education and now we're gonna with the agent to get an education all that stuff sort of makes sense to me but like you said <hes> yeah. It's <hes> it's backfired. It was not a well-thought-out idea but it but but i see where they're coming from. I see where they're coming from but it also it it does have a layer of profiling underneath it definitely you see a guy velour suit and he's talking to isaiah todd and you're saying yourself he probably does not have a college degree and and if you go up and you know test that and he does yeah then you're doing the oh shit. I thought you were someone else..

"Game day Saturday with really Ritter and Eric g all right back with you on this last game day Saturday show of the basketball season with it being the last regular season weekend. The big drought tournament gets underway next week and today TCU playing at Texas at eleven o'clock Baylor in Lawrence to play the rock joggers at one Texas Tech at Ames play Iowa State. Also at one oh you at Kansas state at five o'clock. Yeah, that's on ESPN two and on ESPN news at three o'clock, West Virginia at Oprah Homa state. And remember this is a team that always you beat at the very beginning of the season. Course, it was a much different roster for Oklahoma state. They've sent ahead to kick three guys off of the team for being incredibly. Do you bid? And as Ron white says, you can't fix stupid, but those three guys all charged with various crimes involving taking a BB gun and shooting up some cars and some apartments in Stillwater. Just amazing that that would happen. But the Cowboys with that short handed roster have really played fairly. Well, when you consider that. And of course, just the other night they beat the Baylor bears in Waco. They've played a lot of teams very very close a BTC. You instill water. They almost beat the Kansas jayhawks. They're playing West Virginia today west Virginia's played better than they had. They've played fairly decent recently. But they're still just four and thirteen in the big twelve conference same as OSU the winner of this game today will then be the ninth seed for the big twelve tournament. The loser. Will be ten is Eric, and I talked a moment ago. Whoever loses this game, we'll play Oklahoma in the big twelve tournament. The winner of this game. We'll play TCU. And I certainly think OSU has a good chance to beat West Virginia today in Stillwater if they can hold things together. And then if they play TCU in Kansas City, I like to have a decent chance to win that game to they're almost BTC who in Fort Worth they did beat TCU and Stillwater I think it'd be a great finish to the season for the Cowboys to somehow having beaten Baylor, then beat West Virginia. Then win a game in the big twelve tournament to give them some momentum rolling into next season. When that recruiting class comes in. It's already got three four star guys and a three star guy and perhaps another four star guy Christian Brown. For Oak Hill academy in Virginia was on the Stillwater campus lab. Last week for the K U game. He was pretty excited about what he saw his mom even got involved. You know, they dress up put recruits in the uniform, you know, that they that they want to wear well his mom put on a uniform as well. And they seem pretty fired up about it and Mike Boynton instead of coming back to Stillwater after that win over Baylor. The other night got on a private jet and flew to Virginia to seek Christian Brown in a game that he was playing at kids a four star guy. Six six small forward. And one of the experts on the National Basketball expert on twenty four seven sports predicted on Friday, the Christian brownwood, indeed commit and sign with Oklahoma state. We're also working on Isaiah Todd the five star guy and Julia's marble from the Dallas Fort Worth area a four star guy. Todd right now in the twenty twenty class. Trying to get over to twenty nineteen Cowboys style have to scholarships in this class because of the defections and the kids that have been kicked out there hoping to get Christian Brown at least, and maybe one of those other guys first of all can the mom play. She probably could why not I mean. See safe. She can help they see if you can get her this year as a late add if she has any eligibility left and worry about the sun next year. I think you have to look at this. Oh, Oklahoma state team as a bunch of overachievers at this point considering everything that happened in a may not be the year that anybody in Stillwater one eight although going into the season if they had their full allotment there were a lot of people thinking it was going to be an uphill climb. Anyway. But you you just reeled off enough wins that this team has had this year with like five players on the entire team in some dudes from the fight Kappa sigma house who've come down and played. It may have been from the waffle house. That that is an over achieving bond trite. And honestly, just speaking strictly, I if I'm oh, you that's probably the last team. I want to see in the first round of the big twelve tournament because OSU still has a lot to play for if somehow they could beat oh, you nocco you out of the NC double A tournament. That would be a great way to in your season except they don't wanna play. Oh you in the big twelve tournament. They do not wanna play. Oh, you, but you know, why? Because if they're playing, oh, you it means they got beat by West Virginia today. They would much rather play TCU. Would mean they wanted today. True. But all things you want to. Here's why don't they? Here's why I don't think that's going to happen guiding west Virginia's given up on this season. When I saw them down in Norman that team looked listless after about the first five minutes of that game. Once it starts going south for West Virginia. That's a team that has a tendency to play a radical. They don't seem like the very end of the game. They're not they're old cells, which is probably the biggest shocker and watching them. You don't see them aggressively press the way that they used to. And that's defense. Just. L? I don't really even try that. Because if you're not really good with the press, you can be burned pretty easily. If you don't have the right guys doing that. But anyway that game is today at at three o'clock at Gallagher AIBA and by the way before the game they're going to honor the OSU golf team. They're gonna unveil the banner for the national championship the golf team wanted. It'll be the fifty second national championship banner that will be hanging inside Gallagher AIBA arena for various sports of it. As you also get it OSU. That's just simply called a Saturday. There you go and also today here actually just a little while the big twelve wrestling tournament begins up to be okay center. OSU six of their ten wrestlers are number one seeds going into that wrestling starts at ten o'clock. So here just a little bit up at the be okay center in Tulsa and spring football in Stillwater begins on Monday. It'll be interesting to see Sean Gleeson and action the offensive coordinators Spencer Sanders will won't be he'd be the starting quarterback. Everybody assumes he will. But all that get started Monday. And so on. All right. We're bumping up on a break. When we come back, we'll wrap things up and a special shout the affiliates along the Owen in our some of our special sponsors will do that. When we come back. This is game day Saturday on the.
