Lakers Work Out Isaiah Thomas, Others in Search for More Depth

"Haynes. The Lakers recently worked out veteran guards Isaiah Thomas, Darren Collison. And Mike James, which point guard you believe would fit in best with the Lakers squad. I mean, I'll just throw a dart. It wouldn't be my James. I don't think Isaiah Thomas is a great story, but I would say Collison Probably based on size. Ah, a little defensive prowess age. I don't know. Yeah, kind of knows. Um, I mean, Mike James was the shooter saying, Do you want to go to the problem? If you're a girl go with Santa is to get you know either of them If if, because you missed that come up. I never laugh at that. This is because I wasn't. I'm trying to think about my game. I liked Mike James last year. He was actually pretty. He was. He was funny. That's your answer. I'm going to say, Mike game, all right. Let's see here.

"That do has been lights out. So no, I'm not making that trade. So I think there's so many good things right now that this team has gone remember was Brad Stevens. He hasn't brass. He was hasn't connected with his players Tatum is god-awful right now. He's not and all of a sudden fire you win five games in a row against some really good teams and team like Denver 180 proof. I think that you you send a message right now that that the same couldn't if that's healthy if they're healthy and playing on the same page. They can be very very dangerous the guys. I just want to take a second and talk about Margo off with their stem cell research has been amazing. I went in didn't evaluation and I end up getting a shot and I'm hoping right now. I'm going to be back. The court these guys were brilliant. They communicate. Well, they give you an education on what it's like and that is what really to me one me over because not only were they going to give me an operation of procedure but they were going to educate me about this procedure and in learning and being comfortable that is how you get well and that's how you become partners and my big shout out to those guys. They did a fantastic job check them out at Marigold medical, That's the place to be. Yeah. No, no question and I think the part of the conversation that drives me crazy when when National Media or even even local talk about this Boston Celtics team and they bring up camera and I'm a guy who says that kemba's that wild card in the sense that he could really push his team to new heights in the postseason. We have to wait and see but the narrative that I disagree with is Kemba has to be twenty five point Kemba Walker. It seemed can't go far if he doesn't do that, but wait a minute. Jaylen Brown Jayson Tatum. There's another notch here. I think and Jayson Tatum has already proven that with the fifty three point game Jaylen Brown Georgia doing that by shooting them. They're 80% or whatever. It was breaking records for his efficiency. Like that's a huge Advantage when you think about guys like, I don't know James Harden, you know, yeah. She's 50/50 on you will have you shot it going to take to get there, you know, and I'm using him as an example. I'm not saying that that gives us up. There's a chance to to beat the Nets the net rest of the favors of these two coppers. Don't get it twisted. I mean, I'm just looking down as well if these to have another notch to them. That's a significant Advantage when you compare it to the rest of the East and when you couple the fact that Kemba Walker there's no back-to-backs in the playoff to Kemba Walker has a whole lot to prove because he's Kemba Walker. He just got his first taste of a deep playoff run one year ago. He wants some more of that and three people Walker ragab. Is he cooking in the fourth quarter? You don't need to drop Thirty to get cooking in 1/4 quarter of dropped twelve thirteen points and put you out. There aren't a whole lot of teams minus the Brooklyn Nets minus the Philadelphia 76ers that took a third option like that. Yeah, ma'am. I I couldn't agree with you more..

You really means the lessons that I was thinking, Zico, Elliot, but I can't remember his last name Cowboys guy. Promise you? Yeah, I still got Zara Larsson in before you, said C, but it's whoever has a much better answer. And it was in the two seconds so highest paid runningback NFL Pro bowler Want to say, Jared to piss Cuddy off, but it's it is Katie. Why? Why? Because she was first. Thank you. You have two seconds. Even much better answer. You understand the game works. Yes. But Zeke, his name's Ezekiel started. A lot of people do say homesick. Never your right name. You don't say Madonna seriously. That's a problem because Jared walked off the stage and still I said Elliot, and then he went back to what? I just saw your faces. So that is I don't know I was here. What's the spelling of the name? Technically, it's easy, Zeke. Do they really calm Zeke all the time. Zeke. They come see, Kelly didn't say Zeke Elliott, he said these guys that do to the variable of this game, and technically she is a celebrity, and Katie was first. I'll have to give it to Katie. I really don't think Zara Larsson..

"Four H. beef as our producer Tom says between Isaiah Thomas and Michael Jordan it goes on Kurt Warner has some thoughts about Joe burrow Kevin Durant should he play right before the break we spoke about John wall John wall says I'm a hundred and ten percent but yeah by the way if there is a shot of playoffs this season I am coming back so don't expect to see me until later in the year or for next season like why even say a hundred ten percent if you're not gonna come back and play but that's John wall for you now speaking of NBA NHL Major League Baseball still looks like they want their players to take some type of pay cut they may want to put out a proposal where some of the top players take a reduction in their salary no different than a lot of big corporations and organizations where you have CEOs and folks who are the highest paid you know taken some money off the top of the salary it's a it's a basically keep things rolling so it seems that Major League Baseball in a place association still doesn't have a full plan you know how they gonna go about saving money and it's it's funny to me let's see if baseball can come back it's it's pretty ridiculous but I tell you something one thing that struck me as interesting from an NFL standpoint earlier today there were several stories first of all Jaylen Ramsey who became mouthful minute basically when he played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and I can't blame him and nobody wanted to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars he's made it clear he's like listen I'm not gonna hold out from the rams if I don't get a contract I'm going to show up on a be a good soldier and I'm gonna come and play so good for him in other news the two Y. or I guess yeah New York New Jersey teams the jets and giants which hold their training camps they have not only the their stadium MetLife stadium but also their training facilities are on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River across from New York City the jets and giants they've been permitted to start training camp from governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey so good for them now here's a situation there are a lot of NFL teams is being reported that even though facilities you know the NFL said a lot of the facility's gonna start re opening last week around may nineteenth a lot of coaches a saying that they don't plan on returning until the facilities until we get closer to training camp in training camps don't generally get going until mid in late July so there's still a lot of variables here when we talk about how the NFL is going to get going I have zero idea just like the rest of the world does how they gonna go about operating their preseason schedule you know there's there's a lot of question marks here for the NFL they are outside of my belief just as a yeah owner of the Miami dolphins Stephen Ross said that he feels we're definitely gonna have a season I feel the same way I don't see a situational scenario with the NFL scraps the season unless our world in our country goals right immediately back into the dumps at the end of the year and I I don't necessarily want to discount that as a possibility with the quickness as to how things have reportedly and a lot of places across the country seemingly have returned to normal now I don't want to digress in in be the bearer of bad news but that is the only way I see the NFL not going on at the end of the season is if things flare up ridiculously now having said that Matt Nagy is going to be moving on to his third season as head coach of the Chicago Bears and we don't know what the pre season looks like for anybody we don't know what the regular season is gonna look like but we do know that Matt Nagy after starting all twelve in for his first season as bears head coach they were grass last season they went eight mate Mitch Trubisky couldn't have anybody in between the numbers the offense of line was in shambles it's so bad you know la account long decided to call it a career after that hip injury like he's done and the running game didn't operate the bears would just a complete mess when it came down to the offense that's fax now Matt Nagy has now come out and said this is surprising you really don't hear this from my head coach he says one of the things I look back at from last year that I'm not happy about is a decision that I made to do in the preseason basically not having any of his starters play he says number one I think is good for them to have it but number two it's that's the mentality so that's not going to happen this year well for Matt Nagy's hope so I hope the team is ready to go and I hope they are allowed to have some preseason games this year and that is a complete one eighty from what he said last season when he basically said listen between all of the snaps that we get from OTA's and and and training camp X. cetera it doesn't make sense for me to run my start is out there to give them another twenty five to thirty wraps and preseason okay says I am going to make them better and in week one two or three so he's changed his mind ironically he's changed his mind in a time of uncertainty where we don't necessarily know that we are going to have preseason football so if you're a fan of the Chicago Bears if they can't execute their full pre season offseason or preseason games an offseason then you know what prepare pretty much for the Chicago Bears offense to stink again how much confidence do you have in that office of line especially with Kyle long on the sidelines retired at what thirty thirty one years old what is a bears offense going to do you know is David Montgomery gonna perform the second go around a second year around this was a preference for Matt Nagy over Jordan Howard you got the guy you wanted and Dave in Montgomery the Jordan Howard was going he was in Philadelphia last season was how was he how is anybody going to perform behind that offensive line and then you have you're gonna have to have a preseason games you want your office of players to play why because you brought in Nick Foles you got Nick Foles right there you have Mitch Trubisky who declined his fifth year option and you're trying to decide who's going to throw the ball Allen Robinson let's face it you're gonna need to play your stars so it was a mistake last year because offense couldn't get out of its damn way to start the season now I want to give him credit okay you sign an old Jimmy Graham you go ahead and you draft a tight end you know that's that's a good look and I would expect and I would hope that the Chicago Bears defense doesn't have to drag the offense's carcass the entire season because it's going to be back exactly where they were last year and just being a mediocre team Chicago bears are virtually gonna need offense to carry their weight and not reply and that's just not Bob rid how what what is the word I'm looking for and not rely on their their their defense to just drag on the whole way and so yes you're going to need pre season games and I think a lot of teams are going to necessarily want those preseason games especially with changes you know they're gonna be some teams that I honestly feel like it doesn't matter the chief state run in the high unless the chiefs have been just sitting around drinking congratulatory beers in an enthralling back champagne you know I don't see that happening where they don't get back into the playoffs well they don't have a great year I don't see the Baltimore Ravens not coming back out in having another solid season is Lamar Jack's gonna have exactly the same season we have last year's you gonna come back and have another MVP season I'm not so sure but I don't think that they're gonna lay down if anything I think Lamar Jackson got some damn help in running the football so there's some teams that are gonna have some continuity that are going to be in a good spot and I honestly think they're going to be some other teams just strictly because of the amount of talent that they've added that they're going to be better this upcoming season regardless of what it looks like one of pre season schedule regardless of what the preparation looks like every team pretty much is going to be on an even scale we don't know who's working out we don't know who's going to come in in shape we don't know who's going to be used to getting hit I would presume the the the quality of play the quality of football is not going to be up to par at the start of the season but there are few teams that I think are capable of going out there and surprise some folks and it's really it seems that I feel I have the opportunity to go out in light it up on offense you know the cowboys are obvious you know everybody wants to talk about what's going on with that Prescott when is that going to sign is that gonna sign Jack needs to take the money dak Prescott Dr dak Prescott is being greedy right now just throw that out the window that Prescott is going to be behind center when season starts and he's going to have all of those options in the world to throw the football to pick one whether it's an emerging lamb that everybody's going to be eager to see whether it's an emerging Gallup whether it's an Amari Cooper whether it's Ezekiel Elliott the Dallas Cowboys should be an amazing offense once again this season and you know at some point in time whether he signs the contract which I believe is going to happen before the season gets going that Prescott is going to show he's worth the money just because of those offense of weapons that he's going to have an opportunity to throw the football to the Atlanta Falcons okay I know a lot of folks aren't in favor of having Matt Ryan at quarterback but they have a lot of options you still have Ridley you still have Leo Jones arguably the best definitely one of the best wide receivers in the entire NFL complete wide receiver complete athlete if you ever see you know Julio Jones tackle somebody after inception you know that Julio Jones he just a while receive that man is a football player and you bring in a Todd Gurley whose offense a player of the year several seasons ago but it's going to be required to go out there necessarily carry the load no one a falcons have have several running backs behind him who can certainly help out you bring in a hearse from Baltimore after Hooper goes to Cleveland you know I would not surprise me.

"That's what happened in our so that's the story from Isaiah Thomas he's playing a basketball game theoretically minding his own business a fan who would love a frosty I assume from Wendy's but I don't know if the only place I know that sells frosty's in there pretty delicious really wants a free frosty and gives him the double bird and yells expletive to him three consecutive times Isaiah Thomas very unhappy goes up to confront them and then you heard the story I think what has happened is social media has blurred the line for a lot of people of what is acceptable speech in person and some people think that it's cool to talk this way and you can talk this way only internet because there's that layer of protection and you can talk this way if you're a fan because for the most part you feel protected and empower and very rarely does thing happened but I think leagues and especially the NBA needs to do a much better job of protecting this kind of speech I'm all for being a fan and I'm all for you cheering and blowing it doing those kind of things but there has to be a line of what is acceptable fan as a kid and in my opinion this fan crossed it let's go to the phone lines alleys in Texas go ahead al right on Hey I'll okay does it might take first of all this van and probably white I was I would assume correct I don't know that to be correct I'm willing to bet money I don't know that this is the thing social media has nothing to do with stupidity and lack a garment that you do not disrespect people you did not use racial racial epithets that's just common sense you can't make issues will be with the social media that's ridiculous I appreciate the phone call I'm not blaming social media like I'm not saying this social media is like the cause of it but I do think that we have to be at least honest about social media and how it's changed human error action in communication and how that's a different thing any other time before like Chris let me give you an example maybe this will make sense do you have a friend that you met on social media that you've never talked to in real life and never met but you would consider that person to be your friend shore back in the day on chats and what not sure because I have that like people that I would consider friends in this industry that I have never met before and I only know the room through texting each other in social media never even talked on the phone like earlier today we had Paul belong to I probably talk to parking lot probably twenty times in my life I have never talked to him on the phone until today honestly got never talk to on the phone until today I would consider him a friend in the industry now for everyone to put it out I think that's a different than any other generation that's ever existed before I don't think my parents could have said that I don't think your parents going to set the I don't think my grandparents gonna said that everybody that you knew when we consider a friend you lived near are you mad at one point and you stayed in touch via of different meat for the medication so I do think that communication has just simply change we have to acknowledge me saying social media maybe do it I'm simply saying of I think the effects from social media and how people communicate in fake life or the internet I think it's changed the way that people interact in real life because they take some of those principles and they try to apply them in real life when a real live you can get punched in the face like let's be honest if you act this way in person and you go up to somebody at the bar and you flip them off three times in yellow expletives and then they come up to you and confront you you will get hit I'm not saying it's right but we know that that is a realistic possibility that's not how the internet works let's go back to the fall line injuries in DC going to enter how you doing yeah so I I I I I I've been a I'm again I'm not the few cities like reality for me and at the beyond it's it's always like that but it's always been like that was pretty bad but we felt like the heckle people even before even before the whole idea Thomas incident like it was smoked that small ball that at at at ten o'clock I can years ago so I mean it's just I don't think it has anything to do with social media to get the Philly fans that like to have people I mean you know I will know stories that you know they have a jail in the all in all in the old in their old veteran stadium so you know it's not it's not really about okay told me or anything of that nature I do think it's the people that died that are that go to those games that are in that area that's where that that's a good point I appreciate the phone call that that is a good point Phillies different Phillies a different kind of place but I would argue that this isn't heckle it haggling is bull you're a bomb go sit down heckling is when a player files out and you mock him as he's going to the bench consider this happily there is maybe a soft I don't think this is heckling like I do think there has to be a cold I got I'm I love the wire I feel like if you work at media at you to everyone of the wire I've seen the wire by three times all the way through and the biggest lesson from the wire is that you have to have a code in there has to be a way of doing things no matter what you're doing legal or illegal in the case of the wire everyone has to follow a cold and no one can break said code this to me breaks the code I'm I'm cool with heckling I got no problem with heckling I don't think this is heckling and this crosses the line to me and should not be allowed in should be policed better whether it's through the security staff whether it's just people sitting next to you and you to say yo cool out that's not what we do here it has to be police better and the players you can't go in the stands I'm not absolving Isaiah Thomas of all the blame here I have a user like five percent of the blame in the headquarters of the ninety five percent but you can't go in the states get somebody's attention point to the guy telling what happened and go resolve it that way but you cannot leave the bench to then go confront said fan you're listening to Burrell on the bench my name is Kerr to Harrison filling in you're listening live on CBS sports radio message and data rates may apply earning your degree from one of the top business schools in the country might sound impossible to fit into your workload well what if.

"With gronkowski intern? Bella check goes to drew Rosenhaus the agent for rob gronkowski and says any idea what gronk is thinking. And that sort of sped up the process for rob gronkowski to make that retirement announcement. So if you're skeptical the idea is well grunk was. Taking his time to make that decision. And then that little process sped along. Maybe he wasn't ready to make that decision at this time. Ross. What Mike I mean, you've covered him for years. So I'll just ask you what are your thoughts on whether or not we will see him back on the field again. Greeny rule number one of covering rob gronkowski, expect the unexpected and hang on for the ride. So here's what we're balancing on the one side. You have Tom Brady making that call that do Rosenhaus talked about saying grunk come on back. We need you. And I could see gronkowski saying. Okay, tom. Let's do it one more time. But then you look at the other side, he doesn't need the money. He's got the championships and his body greenie. That's really why he made this decision was the body was beat up. Does he really want to go through it again? So I'll play along. I'll give you odds. I'll say eighty seven percent. He stays retired. Okay. That's a good number. Thank you very much. Well, done migrants eight and seven thirteen percent chance that he does come back and play. So what do you think you've heard this whole conversation who agree? What are your thoughts wrongs done? I don't think I really don't think this decision has been rush. How long have we been here grown talk about return for almost two years now, and you and I sat right here at this. This didn't talked about being and reflection. Mold at the. Super bowl. He was about to play for the Super Bowl. And he was talking about the rigors of the season. What you go through into all season to prepare your body. And here's another thing that a lot of people have to understand about NFL players growth has a bright future outside of the gate and most guys hold onto the NFL. Because that's the only thing they identify with. I think Ron has more up his sleeve outside of the Lea off the field than going back and trying to play and get another Super Bowl. I agree with the. So I go here. I mean, a lot of people think that gronk has rocks for brains. Right. They'll entire crew everybody thinks they're just a bunch of meat heads. I don't think that's accurate. I think they think a lot of things through he teased that he was going to retire last year whenever they're thinking about trading him to Detroit. I think that conversation with his family is already happened. He enjoys the hell out of his life. It's very obvious when you win the Super Bowl it's going to take a couple of weeks to continue to party he was on a cruise ship there with his lady he was out in an island. He did the parade obviously better than most people do the parades. I think Alexandra veteran is. The only comparable person to celebrating victory as him got him. Ovechkin do well. I mean, he was with the Cobb Lord Stanley in there, but Rosenhaus his job as a businessman for rob gronkowski's set a potential opportunities later last year when it happened. They worded it as a potential lucrative acting career on the other end now Rosenhaus like, hey, we tend maybe comes back to the NFL. It's always good to have opportunities. But I think gronkowski will spike in dominate anything. He gets into next. I think he's done super-quick though. I mean, the notion that burger brought up which is at that stage of his he just doesn't want to do with camp anymore and all that kind of stuff and come back in the middle and no player at that point wants to deal with right or the season gronk has more to do. Grow has been look he's been in a perfect situation with the greatest quarterback of all time. So he win a year longer than eat probably playing on playing this season..

"This is nothing new. There's always been super teams. And when when I look back at the Celtics they were super team they had five five at a top fifty players to play. On their championship team. When you look at burger Maceio, you know, wild and so forth and so on and then you look at the Lakers. The Lakers have four the five of the top. Fifty you go back to Philadelphia with Dr J, Moses Malone. There's always been super teams. I think what has happened right now is that guys are talking about it so much and given it a new a new verb. So to speak or new adjective in terms of how you describe it. But there's always been super teams around rather be football basketball baseball. There's always been super the different. Those teams were put together by organizations. These teams the players seem to be choosing each other. So how would it have been if back in the eighties or early nineties? You would said I'm gonna go to Chicago and played with Michael Jordan, never never out. I wouldn't say it. I'm gonna go play with him. But I would have said he can. If I got traded to Sukagaw, I wouldn't have been I mean to play alone Jordan in Sikado, I grew up in tocado. So that would have been a dream Zeke is exactly right super teams have always existed in the NBA just think about it. Like this the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Celtics franchise have fifty percent of the total championships in the history of the NBA all of the retired numbers. All of the hall of famers, all of the people in the top fifty for those two organizations, and you mentioned the Sixers the bulls don't sleep on the Spurs. Yes. In their heyday. They had Tim Duncan. Tony Parker minute. Ginobili? David Robinson, like those guys are going to go on to be hall of Famer. So super teams have always existed. But to your point people are talking about it a lot aren't we have a million things to talk about with Thomas in our studio this morning, and we're looking forward to it the basketball, we'll continue. But right now I wanna flash back to Tuesday night when Bryce Harper made his return to DC after signing his thirteen year three hundred and thirty million. Contract with the Phillies. He hit that four hundred fifty eight foot home run, and then have the huge bat flip against his former team when that lead many of us to wonder on the following day which was yesterday..

Isaiah Thomas wears green sneakers as nod to Celtics in return to Boston

"On the two thousand sixteen seventeen season. Isaiah Thomas lead the NBA in fourth quarter, scoring he was the closer. And of course, so much has changed since that fateful spring in which his sister died far more important than the basketball, but his sister China died in a car accident in Washington state he played anyway. So this was the eve of their opening round series against the Chicago Bulls. He played anyway, they dropped the first two games in Boston. And then won the next four in a row. I can remember all of this like it was yesterday. They ended up making it to the Eastern Conference finals. And do you know that at the time? Isaiah Thomas had a pair of green and gold sneakers design for the NBA finals they were for the finals. They obviously didn't make it to the finals. But he wore those same shoes. On Monday night in his healthy return. You may remember the controversy last year. I've never talked so much about tribute videos of my life. Oh, make me roll. My eyes Burr member. There was a Paul Pierce night planned to honor the future hall of Famer a longtime Celtic, and he put up a stink publicly when it appeared. As though the Celtics were also going to air tribute video fries Ahah Thomas on the same night. So it was a night when the. Shoot. What team was he within the Cavaliers? I guess I don't know. He's changed team. So many times I made that actually might have been. I think it became a moot point. Right. He was with the Cavaliers he ended up before the trade deadline. Getting ship to Los Angeles. And then it didn't matter because he wasn't with the Cavaliers when they were in Boston. And so Paul Pierce had his night without any controversy. And Thomas has been back or his teams have been back. He's played for now. Three teams since Boston. But this was the first time he was healthy enough to be on the court. He only played seven minutes though. When it looked like he was nervous or maybe the news that he's being dropped from the nuggets rotation maybe that room for a loop. I it certainly would most human beings who play sport for a living. And so it wasn't a great night for him. But they did have the video was some really cool moments from his time in Boston. He was all heart, heart and smarts. That's the hashtag that I use for that particular edition of the Boston Celtics who seem like they overachieved, and they Thomas the little engine that could he was a big reason why. But man life comes at fast that was only a year and a half ago. And now think about the arc of Thomas's career any injuries. Of course, that have really changed his speed and his

"Are we really coming up to the all star game already. Really? Yeah. That's coming up this weekend in Charlotte. They've got most of the teams played last night. That'll be their last game before the break. There's a couple of more games tonight. Good ones, though, blazers lit up the warriors won twenty nine one seven thanks to a fourth quarter rampage. That's all Portland outscore the champs thirty five to twelve Damian Lillard scored twenty nine he and seven other blazers reached double figures compared to just two for the dub, Steph curry and Kevin Durant. Each had thirty two wasn't quite enough Portland. Also added veteran Senator NS cater their roster. He was waived last week by the Knicks Kanter also been quartered by the Lakers. He actually signed an offer sheet with Portland four years ago, but never played for them because the thunder matched it and then bond up trading him to New York as part of the Carmelo Anthony deal back in two thousand seventeen. Okay. Mr history. That's it for that. He's averaged fourteen points and ten and a half rebounds for the Knicks this year that rebound total is tenth in the league. So you'd see why the Knicks would want to get rid of him because you know, otherwise, they wouldn't be able to run off a long losing streak. Like they have more about them in a second nuggets nip the kings one twenty to one eighteen Nikola Yokich tipped in the winter in the final second of that game. Paul Millsap had twenty five points and Isaiah Thomas made his season debut for the nuggets play thirteen minutes. Head. A couple of three pointers and wound up with eight points. It'll help them a lot down the down the stretch toward the playoffs. Deborah will stop the rockets. One twenty one to one eleven despite forty two from the beer James harden, running his thirty point game thirty point winning streak scoring streak rather to thirty one games. Now that ties him with Wilt Chamberlain for second. Longest all time Chamberlain also has the longest one at sixty five games in a row bucks past the Pacers one zero six ninety seven Milwaukee we'll go into the break with the best record in the league right behind them. The rap doors they with the wizards won twenty nine to one twenty Celtics left the pistons one eighteen to one ten in that one Brooklyn over Cleveland, one forty eight one thirty nine that one went triple overtime. If you believe that that was a while the seventy Sixers beat the Knicks one twenty six to one eleven that's eighteen straight losses for New York. Joel twenty six points, fourteen rebounds and one twenty five thousand dollar fine from the league for criticizing the referees. Like, he's the only one who does that bulls rushed the grizzlies one twenty to one ten heat too much of the Mavericks won. Twelve to one to one in this clipper sail past the sons one thirty four to one zero seven the clippers now move into eighth place in the west the top eight teams make the playoffs. This year all star game Sunday in Charlotte. It'll be the LeBron James's against the Janas Edoardo Combo's providence column by the first names.

But Shaun Livingston not going to play tonight and get these other Desam some work in like Alphonso McKinney only five minutes last night jealous to Repco seven minutes. Quinn, cook just a five again Igwe dollar, the Twenty-eight looney twelve. And so you want to get those bench guys some more work ahead of the all star game here. So I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see clear tonight, though, Claes kind of a gamer he may want to be out there. You heard the the fits highlight coming in and thank God for NBC sports bay area carrying this thing. Because dude, I am. So over players only is anybody else with me. Dude. I'm watching the seventy Sixers Celtics game. And it was a great ball game. By the way, everybody's saying the seventy Sixers the team to beat in the east right now. No, Boston three and against them this year. And you got guys from Boston Marcus Morris out here saying it's not fun to play basketball. We don't play as a team. I don't like our cohesion. Yeah. What do you guys are beaten the best teams in the Eastern Conference? Boston's gonna get together they're going to be playing some good basketball. I think children's have them playing good ball by the time. They get to the postseason, but the seventy Sixers extremely deep right now. We do have some good. Joel Embiid sound for your where he was kicking himself after the ball game for not kicking it out making a mistake. And just a funny moment, I'm thinking about possibly like, Raymond Ritter. A media guide trying to get him off stage. He's ripping himself. He's Rippin the refs, and you can hear the media down in the background of this cat. We'll get to that. Just a couple of minutes. But the players only thing then get Isaiah Thomas out there calling the game like in theory. It was an okay idea. I think from the jump I'm ready to pull the rip cord on this thing because what is it? Dave. I think it's every Tuesday night now. On TNT. It used to be like get a once an NBA TV does it too. Which is I think the frustrating thing is you're getting it on multiple networks now. And it was a good idea in theory to have a group of players who have played the game sit there and maybe call the game. The problem is that there's no there's no format for it. Right. You've got one guy usually it's like Chris Webber or Isaiah Thomas trying to be the play by play guy. They're having conversations within the game that have nothing to do with the game. They like, I'm I'm more inclined to commute the television and just watch it. Listen to music and watch the game. Absolutely agree. It's it's just unwatchable of the game will be going on like we're talking right here and all these scored, and that's how it was a huge Jimmy Butler bucket at the end of the game. And nobody even acknowledged nobody cared that it happened. They just continued their conversation. And if you're gonna have a basketball player like Isaiah Thomas sit there and try to call the game thing just give me Marv Albert just throw up if a guy who's going to do poor play by play is going to call the game. Just give me an actual play by play guy. I don't need multiple former NBA players on these ex NBA guys wanna see how ex players do it. Just look a crook on Khyber. I mean, I know there are the exception, dude. He's hall of how you doing? That's how you he's the exception. I mean, he's the the absolute rarity where you could play the game and do play by play. But that's the thing is I don't think these guys got into this to do the play by play. They got into it to sit around like, Chuck, and Kenny and and and shack, right? And and shoot the ball. I don't think even got into it for this. And then they offer him it. And why would you say, no? Of course, you call it another game. It's all fine. I think from there, and I just as a fan as a viewer. It was okay. Every once in a while we're doing this every Tuesday night. Now, I'm over so thank God for the broadcast NBC sports bay area. But you heard the fits call coming in their clay moves to eighteenth all time, this kind of baffled me James harden is sitting at thirteenth all time. Now, I know he attempts all that many more. But just in my mind, I thought clay was probably a little bit higher on the list. So he passes Dale Ellis to ahead of now next on the list. Oh pages story. So that'd be a good one actually show. You just how much the three pointer has changed over the last fifteen twenty years when Pasia retire Pasia was like a top ten guy atop eight guy page sitting down at now number. Seventeen think about how many guys have passed him in that time. Richard Lewis Kobe Bryant Chauncey Billips James harden, JR Smith, Dirk Nowitzki, Joe Johnson, Jason Kidd, Paul Pierce, Vince, Carter Jamal Crawford. Jason terry. Kyle Korver and Steph curry all guys ahead of patient since the time that he retired right all who have surpassed him. So that's the growth of the three pointer. We'll get into some of the sound from after the game last night. Steve Kerr big on the defense last night. So was I Andre with dolls performance strain on Green's performance Rudy Gobert though, and the rebounding man, I kinda thought maybe it will come in a little bit chip on his shoulder. We'd have a a little bit of a spat between he and go bare after they were trading shots with each other on social media. Not so much straight months. I don't need somebody else to motivate me trying to be great every time I walk onto the floor but Rudy bear last night. Still killing the dubs on the glass thirteen points, sixteen rebounds, and then Derrick favors thirteen point seven rebounds, the four blocks they gave the the warriors the what for at least in the third quarter. And even in the second quarter. They came out a little bit flat on offense. And then they kinda caught fire. Are there outscore the warriors forty to thirty four in the third quarter warriors needed a fourth quarter from staff and a good defensive performance will hear what the the dubs themselves had to say about it after the game when we return to the leadoff spot. Dave data's. On the sports leader. AM VR.

"isaiah thomas" Discussed on The Dan Patrick Show

"Chris Broussard in for Dan and the danettes here on the Dan Patrick show. Fox Sports radio a couple of weeks ago. There was an article that came out that was critical of Carson Wentz and how he handled themselves unnamed sources it said, you know, that as great a guy as as he's purported to be a good leader as as he could be Carson Wentz in response to the article in the Philly voice that had sources that described him as egotistical and selfish said, quote, I know him not perfect. I know I have flaws. I know I'm not going to. I'm not going to sit here and say, it was inaccurate and completely made up. I'm not going to do that. But at the end of the day, I will say are locker rooms really close. If there were guys that issues in hindsight, I wish we could have just talked about them. What's your reaction broke? You know, the I actually think Wentz handled it, well, I think if he had just pushed back completely on. It said oh bogus is hogwash. It could have had a negative repercussions in the locker room. I think he sounded like at least that he was going to learn from it and try to get better. So I really liked his response. I'll also say this, and you know, like, you say egotistical, selfish, all that stuff bossy bullied, you know, the coach according to the article he denied it. But Michael, Jordan, LeBron Isaiah Thomas the legend Aaron Rodgers all these things have been said or something similar to those things were said about them the difference is they won and even this year. When Aaron Rodgers didn't win hasn't won in a while didn't make the playoffs you start. Seeing these negative things come out about him. When you have a personality that can be abrasive. You're a type a guy. You know, you command the room and some people like it and some people don't, and you feel like you you have the answers that can rub people the wrong way. And the only way it works is when you win if you win everybody just gets in line with it. And it's viewed as good leadership. But when you lose your viewed as a guy that selfish that people don't like Michael Jordan's last year in Washington. I was around that team. Those young players who grew up idolizing Jordan with this poster poster on their walls. They hated him. Eight because he was no longer winning. He was the same abrasive guy talking down to people and all that challenge and everybody, but they weren't winning. They weren't even making the playoffs and guys didn't like it. And so Carson Wentz v win Super Bowls or a Super Bowl. Then this stuff won't be an issue. But if they don't win the this is really going to be a problem. I don't know if I would go that far. I I would agree with you that that winning does cure all ills. I I completely agree with that. But, but I think this is something more let's start with your initial premise, which is he handled it really well because he didn't do the fake news thing. Right. Right. Like like, however, however, you feel about Carson his these unnamed players felt about Carson wins. They felt strong enough to have their name put or another their words putting article and for people who go I don't like unnamed sources deep throat was an unnamed source like that bride of like like the reality of football is a wide receiver who plays with Carson Wentz can't say, hey, I think he's a pompous a whole like you just ride can't can't work that way. And I do understand these like, look you could have just come to me. But the reality is like you're going to go to be like, hey, you're kind of being a kind of being a baby about this thing. So I think the way he handled. It was great. Like look. I'm not perfect. Probably some of the stuff is is. I think don't you think the guys that criticize them on that team will look at that. And say, okay, maybe he's going to grow from this. Yes. Yes. And but I would disagree with the, hey, if you win your any leadership style is first of all you're not going to win if your leadership if as a leader, you're not revered. It's just a SP in a position of quarterback. You just you can't win. If you're. Not going to if you're not going to truly lead truly buy into other people..

"Who's gonna walk on me? Like, can I just say something about please? Donnas thing that like, okay. First of all diving like, I am. I am right there with you as that was fucked up trading. Isaiah Thomas like after he played through grief and injury in the two thousand sixteen playoffs for you play two days after his sister died, but at the same time, I appreciate that basketball is a business and trading. Isaiah Thomas for Kyrie Irving as a thing that makes sense co completely. But at the same time the Celtics are like the best team built for Davis to join and immediately contend for title layer. So the math isn't really Mathiang. 'cause if it was I mean, he wants to be forgot about the like the explanation and like the dad jumping in and the whole bed. He wants to be in LA. I like LA let's get LA is is is like way more fire. The Boston every day. I listen, I've they both cities. As of I I like, Boston fine. It's cold as hell there. You don't see the sun for like ten and a half months. And then like the sun comes out for a day and everybody loses their shit, and then it goes away again and everybody's miserable. Hermit? No. Thank you. Of course, you want to be in LA, if they don't make this move, though, a presents the pelicans with some problems right because they they yanked his ass out of that video. And he doesn't want to be there. So cram if they don't make this move, and you've got like a an obviously, not content not happy Anthony Davis who you also want to keep healthy. Do you shut him down for the rest of the year? Well, I to answer your other question about why would a team maybe try for Davis. The answer is because you get to have.

Anthony Davis Trade Rumors: Pelicans May Make Counteroffer to Lakers

"Anthony Davis says if feels like his time is now that he's given all he can to the pelicans. And he's ready to move on the all-star informing New Orleans earlier this week. He'd like to be traded said Friday that his intention is as long as he can is a member of this organization, but legacy does factor in this decision. Oh. Lexi. Goes good. I'm playing. Know. What is my legacy going to be? That's the younger AD. Anthony Davis senior telling ESPN's Ramona Shelburne that he doesn't want his son to play for the Celtics after quote what they had done to Isaiah Thomas. No loyalty guy gives his heart and soul Nate traded him. They did trade him for Kyrie Irving over by the way. Meantime, the pelicans are mulling over what to do with the six time all star as next Thursday's deadline approaches. Wold on the Lakers. I offer for Davis is underwhelming leaks. Sources league sources tell me that the Lakers I offer to the pelicans included cow coups Ma Rajon Rondo, Michael Beasley, Lonzo ball and a first round pick. And the Lakers offered have offered a few variations. Of deals, but but all of them have only included in each of them. A couple of the Lakers are among the Lakers. Several good young players. Just two of them in each offer and Rondo or land Stevenson are in almost every offer and essentially. In your starting point in these kinds of talks, especially for a player of Anthony Davis has stature would be most of your good young players and multiple first round picks. And the pelicans haven't got an offer yet. I'm told that includes more than one first round

Anthony Davis' dad sounds off on Celtics: 'I would never want my son to play for Boston'

"So Anthony Davis requested a trade from the New Orleans. Pelicans still does have a year left on his contract. His father did make some news the other day when? Anthony Davis senior said I would never want my son to play for Boston After what they done to Isaiah Thomas. No, loyalty guy, gives his heart and soul. And they traded him. This is just my opinion. He said I've just seen things over the years Boston. And there's the loyalty will really there's no loyalty in sports. There's very few times in sports where you see this great amount of loyalty, I can't kill the Celtics for the Zeya Thomas situation. Sure when a guy has been through all that when he's someone that is easy to root for is it tough to trade him, absolutely. But will you gotta give them a max contract just because you were loyal to him. And and give them a max contract and your quired a better player, and obviously with Kyrie Irving. But if you would have given him a max contract and the way that his career has panned out man, and you have been looking foolish, and and I get it. A lot happened with them off the court. He was an inspirational story with the injury blade through. And and all the family situations. With what happened to his sister? I totally get that. It's tough to make a move like that. But sports are roofless. And we know that. So I can't kill the Celtics. And I can't say I agree with Anthony Davis senior that. Anthony Davis to play for the southeast because there's no loyalty he can't get too caught up in the past. Here's what we know about the Celtics. They have a very good group eventually is going to be some players area have to be broken up. And Kyrie Irving may not be coming back that could be a possibility because before the season started Kyrie said, hey, I'm coming back as long as you guys want me back, and now it's a totally different. Tune in you, see the scene at the garden the other night where knick fans are regular play for Kyrie Irving. But we'll see what

Officials defend actions after migrant girl dies in custody

"Made the difficult journey through treacherous terrain. This is just a very sad example of the dangers of this charity, according to DHS customs and border patrol agents. Apprehended the girl and her father on December six at the antelope wells border port of entry in western New Mexico along with a group of migrants turning themselves in to the US agents. It was there that DHS says her father at first told border agents his daughter was in good health. It was noted on an English language intake form that the father signed. But he does not speak English. The father and daughter waited for hours before boarding. Rush to a nearby border station. DHS says on the way to Lord Burgh, New Mexico ninety five miles away the girl ran a high fever and started vomiting at one point. She stopped breathing agents revived her and called the head for emergency medical help just over an hour after reaching the border station. She was airlifted to providence children's hospital in El Paso, Texas, one hundred sixty miles away. Her father traveled there separately. The girl suffered cardiac arrest in the hospital was revived but did not recover. She died on the morning of December eight the coroner has not ruled on her cause of death this family chose to cross illegally. What happened here was they were ninety ninety miles away from where we could process them. We gave immediate care. We'll continue to look into the situation. But again, I cannot stress how dangerous this journey is. When migrants she used to come here illegally does administration take responsibility for a parent taking child on a trek through Mexico. To get to this country. No, not far from this hospital in El Paso, the group border network for human rights takes issue with the Trump administration blaming the girl's father. Lakers, LeBron James and LeBron discussed on First Take

"What's going on. Everybody welcome. I take Molly came here and we have some major. Exciting news here on I take. I am so happy. So Maxon Stephen may be on vacation, but they are getting ready to take on the Big Apple. I take officially moving to a new studio in New York City. The debut show airs on Labor Day, September, third. So we may be changing the location, but you can still expect the same hot towards debate. And of course, lots of special guests and surprises to welcome the show to New York in speaking of a voice. I miss Steven, you're on the phone. Hey, how's vacation going in your discreet location? Disclose location? Yes. I'm loving loving. Neely, I, you know, I relaxed enough to get ready to beat up on Maxwell another year. And what have you that's a given look comes with the territory, but I mean credibly excited that we're moving to New York City both myself and maximum native New Yorkers. It's been a long time coming. It's something that pleaded in baseball for years, and finally it's happening. So I'm incredibly excited. Yes, I am Stephen, I cannot wait. And I think one of the major things I'm excited about is obviously, you know, it's the mecca for for a lot of things, especially I still consider the NBA as well. And I think certain guests will be able to get there in a lot of other surprise and stuff will have for the show. So I think it'd be major, but I, I know you have to be kind of sad because you're not going to have to drive up to bristle anymore. You're not gonna come up here. You know what it is. It is a very, very sad day because I mean, what's not to love about Bristol, Connecticut. I mean. ESPN down the block that there's a McDonald's and and and and and a ruby Tuesdays and stuff like that. I've really, it's really sad that I'm not going to be able to be there because I'm going to be in new you most times and on occasion, I'll find myself with John and feed and Dominic in LA. I mean my God, it's such a tough tough situation, but I think I'll say, I can't wait and obviously can't wait at four t with you guys. Now that'll be on your home city, but saving, I'll tell team soon. I hope you are actually relaxing for some reason. I don't believe you, but please do that because you know, once you're back, you're back. Just know this when I'm back copy ready, then I'll tell, sorry my condolences to Mexico element in advance must've taken. It's about to be out. All right, Steven, Al. Talk to you soon. All righty. Thank you. Congratulations, Shane. Okay. So we have a first day moving to the Big Apple catch us every day at ten eastern starting on September. Third. Sports right now. I'm at Collins, new Denver Nuggets. Point guard. Isaiah Thomas is sitting down with our MBA insider h. g. now ski, I t who signed a one year two million dollars contract with the nuggets. Last week opened up to watch telling him this free agency was flat out disappointing, the twenty nine year old who continues to fight the perceptions of his help. One onto say, quote, people know that I've earned deserve the Bax contract, and that's the only reason why I didn't get paid what I deserved because I got injured. I get that. The biggest thing for me was to get to the best opportunity for me this summer and show that I'm healthy. You can read. We'll just four article on Thomas right now on ESPN dot com. Staying in the NBA with Kawai heading to Toronto on the broad in Los Angeles. We're looking ahead to who are the best and worst team heading into the season where than forty ESPN reporters, insiders and editors came out with a new set of power rankings. You'd think with James in Los Angeles Lakers at least at the. Five think again, no surprise. The warriors are on top, but three of the top five teams are from the Eastern Conference, the Lakers checking nine, but that's only the six best among Western Conference teams. Let's get back to. I takes Tony. Thank you the Lakers outing. Another piece to help LeBron next season's dining, Michael Beasley to a one year deal. As you just heard the Lakers are number nine in our latest NBA tower, rankings Mazel serve with you. Do think the Lakers or more likely to surprise us as upcoming season or disappoint, you know, I'm a huge Lakers fan. I think they are more likely to disappoint what fortunately with you to say that look. I mean, there are some really interesting piece. I liked the addition of Michael Beasley. They need shooters, but there are some really challenging personalities on this roster land Stevenson and Ray John Rondo and javale McGee. And now Michael Beasley, the expectations are so high for this team. And I think ultimately we're talking about a team that's going to be the six to seven seed. I think in the Western Conference I would never count LeBron. But LeBron James, I don't think has ever been on a team that has finished six or seven in its conference. I think it's going to be a very, very tough challenge for Luke. Walton debt may be the toughest job in the NBA right now, balancing those personalities, balancing those egos and keeping LeBron James happy. Can I respond to Mr. happy over here? Does he need to get in there and say, as I like to say, my real job is at the as the Lakers radio play by play guy. This is going to be great. It's going to be a fascinating lab experiment. Number one, we got LeBron look at the roster LeBron had last year in Cleveland compared to this roster this wrestlers just as good, maybe better. I can't wait to see how these pieces come to. And keep in mind. The Lakers young guys are all getting ready to make a jump. Brandon Ingram doubled his statistical numbers. Last year, Josh Hart was just the MVP of summer league Lonzo ball's coming off of a minor knee surgery, but I expect him to get better this year and Kyle Kuzma was the steal of the draft. I can't wait to see what this Lakers team looks like with will run as the leader. The games are going to be ridiculously exciting, and most of all, we're not going to be losing anymore. I've suffered through five straight losing seasons. The end of that is here, and I think that the Lakers are going to surprise a lot of people in the opposite of Mason. Dominique. I think the Lakers are, if you look at that roster, there's some real possibilities. I think I agree with you in part because I don't think the expectations are very high expectations are pretty low for this team right now. All the reporting about other opinions about this team is that they're the. Main team there. They're a bunch of guys who are wildcards and is no way that you can put together. And it seems like every other week, the Lakers are coming out trying to defend their roster construction and try and explain to us what they're thinking. I think what they're trying to put together as a smart team of bunch of guys who have veteran experience that are adaptable on defense can pass pretty well not as many shoot as you would like to see. But they have a couple of shooters. I think they have a decent team and they have a guy by the name of LeBron James. I don't know if you guys watch the playoffs last year, watch any basketball. James is pretty damn good, and he makes your team a contender immediately. So I think that's -tations are low. So I think they will surprise and then you look at the Western Conference. I think we talk about how heavy how stack the Western Conference is often. I think that's a bit oversold, but to be honest, you look at some of these teams that you think LeBron's going to be worse than Utah. LeBron's going to be worse than Portland LeBron's going to be worse than Denver. Like I know they're good teams, young teams that are getting better, but he's LeBron James and he has a young good coach. Luke Walton wa think is flexible and smart enough to make this team good. I think expectations are low so they will surprise Molly. Where are you on this? They're going to surprise disappoint. What do we think? What do I think people are expecting? Tell me that for fifty wins is what the expectation is an wouldn't you agree make the Ryan that just came out, said that they were ninth in the Powell ratings, right? The ratings ESPN pirating said they're nice night than they're not yet pulling up pulling up the radio. That'd be about right because there's three Eastern Conference teams, so that would put them four, five, six in the state. I think the expectations are Western Conference finals and.

Denver Nuggets unravel in second half of loss at Los Angeles Lakers

"For thirty two percent but wilson was four of seven from three jamal's three of seven joke was to five matter of fact joker had fifteen points and nine rebounds and five assists and one steal in the contest gary hair scored fourteen points for the nuggets as well but they shoot forty four percent for the field by while the lakers sky twenty six points from julius randle and kyle kuzma and isaiah thomas came off the bench and scored twenty three for the lakers pass well it was a weird weird game the lakers ask or the nuggets thirty five to twenty two in the first quarter then the lakers scored just thirteen points in the second quarter nuggets make that rally in the third quarter when they went up by as many as thirteen points but in the fourth quarter once again the lakers outscored the nuggets thirty five to twenty one so it was almost mirror image the first quarter in the fourth quarter for the lakers that's when they did that damage and the lakers get the one twelve to one zero three win the nuggets are now tenth in the western conference they are a game behind the spurs jazz and clippers and right now the standings look like this the clippers of the seven seed the jazz the eight see the final spot then the spurs are the first team out they don't have the tiebreaker on either the la clippers or the utah jazz and then comes the denver nuggets a game back of those three teams but the nuggets are also just a game and a half back out of the five and six spots which currently held by the pelicans and the timberwolves and well there's two they're just to gain weight is two games three games there are three games back of the number four seed in the western conference currently held by the oklahoma city thunder lakers beat the nuggets night one twelve to one or three we'll take one final break come back and wrap it all up next right here on the altitude radio network.

Why it didn't work out for Isaiah Thomas in Cleveland

"Bobby marks job than hood glad you're with us here on espn radio will hear from michael c wright who covers the spurs at the bottom of the hour right here on espn radio we ask you to open up a tab in check out brian windhorst and david menem and putting together a terrific column on espn dot com regarding isaiah thomas arm briolettes talk a little bit about this this stories entitled why it didn't work out rise air thomas and cleveland um so i i the one of the reasons why i didn't choose cleveland to win the east is because i didn't like the roster composition as airtime was being part of that but it didn't work out could you can tell us about that call them that europe well it's working out for is aimed at night because he's got twenty point and they leakers are up by fourteen the last two minutes against the cavs and i'm sure he save during this performance yet gotta that the what happened when the cavs made this deal remember that they traded career of avoiding they really did to try to get that draft pick but they but they got they got isaiah thomas and they brought him to cleveland and they gave him an mri and they almost pulled the plug on the trade and when that happened it had an affect on a lot of different things especially on the way lebron james you the trade because lebron either he you're never going to impress lebron james with a draft pick i tell people this and they they seem to they can't believe it but the broadest only played with two first round picks who were rookies in the last ten years now to talk about guys who got drafted and then played with matt you're obviously he's got teammates were first round former first tropics he's never really had both of those guys were minor players jj dickson had norris kohl he's never been a part of a team that's drafted highly and gotten players in so he doesn't you're not going impress him with draft picks he wants to know who is going to play with him when he found out that isaiah thomas had a really severe injury was nothing against isaiah personally he wanted just what the hell the.
