Cardinals use two pick-6s in first half to down Saints 42-34
"The Cardinals returned pass interceptions by Marco Wilson and Isaiah Simmons late in the first half en route to a 42 34 victory over the saints Kyler Murray threw for over 200 yards and a touchdown completing ten of those to Deandre Hopkins his first game back after a 6 game drug suspension I think there's a lot of things that we could have done better out there But I think it was 360 plus days or something like that It's crazy It feels good to get away The Cardinals improve to three and four the saints fall to two and 5 George Tanner Glendale

"You get a lava back. I think that's a huge help for the saints offense, not just because he appears to be an extremely viable weapon, but his ability to stretch the field opens things up for the ground game. He creates that space. The other guy to look at tonight a little bit as Joan Johnson. I mentioned troutman being down. So Joan Johnson goes to being the primary tight end target. And he's a guy that has some traits that are really interesting, right? He's like 6 four two 35. He runs four or 5. Arizona's defense has been the most sensitive to tight end passes in the league by a mile. Teams are targeting Cardinals tight ends at a 28% of dropbacks. The highest rate in the league and it's because the cardinals are dead last and receptions and yards allowed to the tight end position. Arizona's dead last in EPA defending tight end passes. It's really a byproduct of what we discussed in our off season preview, right? Like Simmons and Collins to this point are not just liabilities, but absolute zeros. If you look at Isaiah Simmons. Tell us how you really feel pain. Tell us how you really feel about the last two linebackers. The Cardinals were drafted. I'm not saying anything new though. No, we talked about those issues last season. We talked about the issues again in the preview. And we kind of alluded to why that was happening. The green dot is a linebacker position, right? That's typically where Arizona went with a safety to be their green dot. And the guys they brought on from a veteran standpoint just hinted that they weren't completely comfortable with Simmons and Xavier Collins. And right now, their linebackers number 48 and 69 out of 86 qualifying linebackers and coverage. You also have to worry about Kumar now, as I mentioned, he looks a little healthy. And then it's not just in the ground game. 12 receptions out of the backfield the last two weeks for a tick below ten yards a catch. So I think you're going to see at least when the saints do pass, it'd be smart to put those to put the two utes in conflict through the air. Hey, I mean, do everything you can with a little bit of eye candy, confuse them, try and throw a couple of interesting wrinkles at them on a short week. I know it's hard to institute a brand new game plan. But to your point, it wasn't the saints offense that let them down last weekend when they lost 30 to 26 against the bangles. It was some of their defensive frailty and unfortunately for them Marshawn Lattimore appears to be down again. They will get some reinforcements in the secondary with the return of Marcus may, but when you look at this Arizona offense, I mean, you highlighted some of the struggles, horrifically slow starts. They did finally show a little bit in the second half against the Philadelphia Eagles in their last home game. But this has really been a House of horrors. And if cliff Kingsbury is supposed to be the offensive mind, granted he gets Deandre Hopkins back and the numbers don't lie in terms of Kyler Murray's performance with Hopkins in the lineup versus without Hopkins in the mix. What do you anticipate Arizona doing to try and attack a saint's defense that has been extremely vulnerable over the last couple of weeks? I think this is really a good conversation because it just aligns with the Cardinals because granted there's some wonkiness going on in the NFL with offenses through the first 6 weeks. Just kind of forget that for a minute. Generally speaking, the last handful of years we've seen this push towards more passing because it's more efficient. And I think because of that, people just equate spread offense is that like to throw as being modern and new school and innovative and hyper efficient. Let me tell you, you can be directionally right, but absolute dog shit. And that's ultimately what's going on with the Cardinals offense. And we said it last year, despite the 7 and O start, we kept banging the table and telling you, cliff Kingsbury isn't that guy, and you would be amazed by those emails as well that we got across from Arizona fans. And I got to tell you, it's been whisper quiet sense. And not a whole lot to celebrate out here in the desert. Yeah, like you're just looking at a guy like the offense isn't very creative. One play doesn't set up the next all that often. Defenses have made adjustments in cliff hasn't countered the counter. And the little things that we talk about all the time, like pre snap motion and play action, Arizona doesn't do it. 32nd in pre snap motion rate. Kyler throws the play action just 17% of the time. It's 31st at a 37 qualifying quarterbacks. And it's led to three points in the first quarter this season. And that immediately tells you the script and the game plan aren't good enough from cliff. And it's not like Arizona's face to daunting schedule of defenses here, right? I mean, in the first half through 6 games, Arizona is 27th in both success rate and EPA per play, and that's against the 22nd toughest schedule of defenses. So there's a real problem here. And I think the two areas that we emphasized this off season that were clear regression candidates were third downs and offensive line play. Arizona had the highest rate of third down efficiency over expectation last season. And their offensive line was old and inconsistent. And right now, Arizona is 26th in late down efficiency and tonight, two of their three best offensive linemen and starting center Rodney Hudson and guard Justin pure both out because they're a little older. And I just think this is wild to watch. You paid Kyler all this money, you were kind of forced to. But you just kind of watch him play out there and his mannerisms and his body language is very tough to watch. It's clear him and cliff are not in the same page. There's been some whispers that cliff is kind of over the situation. Wouldn't mind heading back to college and not dealing with this. You might see a little bit of that in the game plans, right? Because suddenly now, the script in the game planes aren't very good. But I think the other thing here is we have to stop putting it all on cliff. Horrific, right? Accuracy is atrocious. He's dead last in EPA and throws of ten plus yards downfield. He kind of just lives in the basement of multiple key metrics. And the other thing here is under pressure. Kyler is averaging 2.7 yards per pass attempt. For a mobile quarterback, that's pretty laughable. Tonight that needs to change because this will surprise some people. And you mentioned at the top, the liability for the saints has been defensively the last few weeks. And we kind of saw it in the underlying metrics early on in the season and we just thought, hey, you know, it's playing this quirky Atlanta offense that nobody knew what to expect week one. But the saints are dead last in pressure right. That's shocking for a team with Kim Jordan. And the saints blitz at the fourth lowest rate. Marshawn Lattimore is out, as you mentioned, let's keep an eye on Paulson and debo. He's questionable. The saints defense is a little bit beat up in the secondary, although they do get Marcus may back as you alluded to. This is the week though, the Cardinals passing game has to make some improvements because you're looking at a

"And if that happens, along with a schedule of past defenses that goes from 8th toughest to fringe top 20, maybe Arizona can have some success in a questionable NFC Todd. Yeah, so I make short jokes. You call everybody on the Arizona Cardinals old. And I'll be at that might be the case based on NFL longevity in the early 30s. And it's interesting because you talk about the relationship that should have existed between cliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray. But it's almost like Arizona is doing everything they can to reunite Kyler with his former college teammates. You mentioned that deal earlier this week to bring in Cody Ford from Oklahoma. We know that they wanted and got Hollywood Brown. So maybe Kyler can bring in all of his buddies from when he was playing it as absolute peak at Oklahoma going forward, but it's not all about Arizona offensively. There's obviously some concerns about this group defensively. You had some key departures for guys that contribute quite a bit in the form of Chandler Jones, Jordan hicks and Jordan Phillips. We know how Arizona has prioritized drafting athletic linebackers, each of the past few seasons and Isaiah Simmons and zaven Collins. Neither at least at this point has really lived up to some of their advanced billing, but you know it takes a little bit longer for the lights to go on based on some of those traits and attributes. But at the same time, you do wonder with this Arizona Cardinals team, no Chandler Jones, are they able to replace that level of sac production? JJ watt is great when he's actually on the field and healthy, but it feels like a lot of the burden falls primarily on Marcus golden and you wonder where some of these difference makers are for Arizona stop unit if the offense isn't able to click on all cylinders, especially without Deandre Hopkins the first 6 weeks. First of all, thank you for cleaning up my mesh there. Cody Ford, not Cody Allen. When it comes to the defensive side of the ball, I think we have a lot of respect for Vance Joseph, just as a defensive mind. Probably not going to be a good head coach. I don't know if someone gives them a second twirl there, but he does a very good job mixing up coverages last year you look, I believe Vance got way more out of the Cardinals defense than we projected. Arizona finished 6th and schedule adjusted defensive efficiency against the top ten schedule of offense. All while having the 7 most injured defense. Damn good job there. There's question marks again this year. Like Arizona looks a little soft up the middle on the interior. It was good seeing Richard Lawrence finished last season strong, graded out really well the final 5 games at nose tackle, but fatu has been a liability a couple of weeks ago the Cardinals went out and they signed Antoine Woods and Christian Ringo to kind of shore up that interior tackle spot. There's been some talks of kicking the tires on Sue or linville Joseph. Let's say I would think that makes sense if you're trying to actually be a contender in the NFC. You mentioned letting Chandler Jones leave. I think he's an all world pass rusher. He's a Hall of Famer in my mind. I don't know if he gets that level of respect from a lot of people that aren't in the football community. Obviously I think that's a decent loss, but you have guys like Marcus gold and then Devin canard and Dennis gardeck that have shown potential and lesser roles in limited snaps. You mentioned Marcus gold. The third best cardinals defender last season he recorded a pressure or run stop in 11% of snaps. You have Devin canard, had a 10% pressure rate on pass rush snaps. Guard X dealt with some injuries only played a 183 pass rush snaps the last two seasons, but as a 17% pressure rate on those snaps. Cardinals also drafted two edge rushers Cameron Thomas and Maya Sanders from Cincinnati with the first two guys at the top hundred picks in April's draft. Of these 5 guys though. Somebody needs to step up, right? JJ watt has to stay healthy. I think he's still got a lot of juice. If you look prior to the injury, what was 5th among interior defensive linemen with an 18% pass rush win rate. But the cardinals need want to stay healthy and then a couple of those other defensive ends I mentioned to kind of fill the void of Chandler Jones. All in all, like Arizona finished 27th in team pressure slightly above average in team pass rush win rate. So I don't know what that looks like this year without Chandler Jones. Those three guys are just vital to stepping up on the edge. The linebacker room. This might be the most interesting in the entire league because the athleticism in the traits that Isaiah Simmons and zevi and Collins have are through the roof. You just wonder when the talent and potential gets realized. Simmons hasn't graded out positive and two seasons. His game grade declined in year two. 95 NFL linebackers played at least 250 snaps last season. Simon's graded out 62nd. And for a guy that athletic and fluid that can pass as a safety. He ranked 61st among linebackers and yards allowed per coverage snap. Vance Joseph didn't trust zaevion Collins as a rookie. We saw that. He only played 20% of snaps. Eventually hicks came in and replaced him. On those snaps though, saving Collins recorded a run stop or a pressure just 4% of the time. Now, if Simmons and Collins can get it figured out, the cardinal's defense has far less questions. But reading the tea leaves here. The cardinal signed Nick vigil as an insurance policy. Vance Joseph likes how savvy and buttoned up neck is. Four weeks ago, Vance put the green dot on safety jaylen Thompson.

"Plan for just the future. In fact, FedEx is aiming to become carbon neutral by 2040. So that's definitely a big step towards the future. They work for that right now. You know, that's 2040. All carbon neutral. You know, you have to be seeing that around. Yeah, it's important. I'm live in California. The governor here has talked about where they're going to take the climate. Climate control aspect of things back here in the state of California. So really, really proud of you and what you're doing. I think one of the biggest things that you learn and it's something that you definitely have, once you enter the NFL, your platform becomes so special and it's about being a service. And what's funny about that is that when you start doing things for other people and make it about other people, it lifts you up and makes your life even better. So keep doing what you're doing, it is a pleasure to watch you play on Sundays and thank you for taking some time today to be part of our show, chase. I appreciate it. Thanks for having me. You bet. Chase young, everybody. Defensive. And for the Washington commanders, second overall pick. I forgot that he was a second overall, but how many drafts have there been? Ever in the history of the NFL Draft? I don't know, 90, maybe. All right, so there's 9 of us. So him and I are in a pretty cool club together, right? Yeah. Yeah. I don't know if you know who the hell I am, but he's a guy that asked him questions about FedEx today. I know that. He was just like, I know that guy. I know that guy. Chase young, absolute beast. That 2020 draft loaded. Loaded. Obviously, we know all the quarterbacks, but Joe burrow, number one overall. Joe burrow number one, chase young two, Jeff akuta. I mean, a lot of the state is not high state teammate. It's had some bad luck with injuries. Since, but two. Just 6? Justin Herbert's 6. We know two O one 5, Isaiah Simmons, CJ Henderson, McKay Becton. Is that some injuries too with jets, but. But he was an impact early on. Okay, back to the noise. Gary Judy, CD lamb, Justin Jefferson, obviously a 22 Brandon aiyuk monsters. Isaiah Simmons won for me. I was high on that guy. I really thought the Giants should have taken him early in that draft. And then man, just like the first few picks of the second round too. Tea Higgins, Michael Pittman junior, Deandre swift. Xavier McKinney Kyle Duggar beast. Jonathan Taylor won 41. I remember when tee Higgins was taken there and I just said that, that is, I had watched that kid, I'd watched him from his national championship year, and I just thought he was going to be a difference maker and he certainly has. That's for sure. Chase young, he talked about Carson Wentz a little bit right there. I do believe this move was made because of the, I mean, I was so surprised when it happened. Not that he left or not that he got moved, but the trade that was done for it, right? The amount that was given up, taking on the contract, all of those things. There has to be something that Ron Rivera has seen what the Washington football club is seen in the past playing against Philadelphia twice a year. That they knew he could make it he could make a difference. And people forget, right? I mean, through 27, touchdowns a year ago with only 7 interceptions. Now he was a big reason why they didn't get to the playoffs and how he performed late in the year. That game against Las Vegas, where he coughed it up in Indianapolis, and then on the road at Jacksonville at the end of the season against a team that had only one, I don't know, had they only won one game at that point? I think so. Yeah. Yeah? You know, Trevor Lawrence made Trevor Lawrence look like an all pro quarterback. And they got beat and they got left out of the playoff conversation 'cause guess what? In the AFC, clearly? Just getting into the tournament meant something because if you did, you had a shot. Wide open. On both sides. All sides ended up being wide open. So interested to see what Washington will look like. It was great having chase on the show there, talk a little bit about it. The thing that I find interesting about the NFC east and I made the point is no team has backed it up. Since Philly did back in the early 2000s. No one has went back to back in terms of division champions. It's been a free for all every single year. So I wonder which team is going to step up. It was Philly last year. It was Dallas last year. Year before it was Washington, Philly got in as a wild card a year ago. Who does it this year? I would think that Dallas is right back in the mix. I would think it's Dallas division TJ to kind of lose, right? I know we've talked about them about how they haven't really improved since this time last year, but I still think they're the class of the NFC east, right? I don't know. I don't know, man. I know my spot here is the hype up the whole thing's cowboys, but you know, with rich said a few weeks ago was pretty right. He was like, they are not as good today as they were when the season ended. So we're just going to have to see, you know, despite what people say about the Jones Ryan when it comes to drafting. If you look at the cowboys the last 15 years of draft picks, they've done an overwhelmingly good job of selecting, especially first round talent. We're just going to have to wait and see. I don't think they've been great at putting staffs together to be honest with you. That could be. And if you guys remember correctly, last time I was on the show, or maybe the time before when the season was going on, I said the cowboy's biggest liability was sitting in the head coaching spot. Yeah. Because of what the time management and game management stuff had looked like during the season. Well, clearly it was terrible. Right? I think that's still the same coming into this year. So that for me is the biggest question mark, right? I mean, you've got one of the most dynamic players on the defensive side of the football in Micah Parsons. That draft pick was, yeah. Where did they go in the first round? Did they go get a wide receiver to replace Amari Cooper? Maybe? To put a long CD lamb? I don't know. It seems like there's other spots that should be addressed. I think the offensive line needs to be addressed. I think Tyrone Smith scenario had left tackle when he's healthy. He's great, but he hasn't been healthy. Yeah, I mean, he's put a lot of mileage on that big body, so. Yes, he has. Speaking of the big body,.

"He has another high level prospect in this draft. Yeah, and Kyle Hamilton. And that's what I wanted to talk to him about was kind of the chess piece. And that was his analogy before I got to it, but he was like, he told me, he's like, he's your rook. He's your knight. He's your whatever you want it to be, make moves on the field that nobody else can make. And he said, you combine that with his off the charts intelligence. It allows him to be a piece that in really each game week of preparation, you can use him almost in a different manner. And he was like, in the NFL game, how is that not needed because of the talent that comes in like one week, it's a Travis Kelce, Jeff, and the next week, it's somebody else on the outside that he might need to help it work. The way offenses have these talented chess pieces on their side of the ball, I'm curious why that position, because everybody said, well, don't take a safety that high. Well, I'm like, well, if these like George kittles and Travis Kelce are so unstoppable and offense, why isn't that piece that can guard them more valuable on the defensive side of the ball? Because he told me, the way you can use him, it could change each week, so I don't get why that's not something that teams would absolutely value at the first half of the first round. Yeah, I think the only thing about Kyle Hamilton that scares me is the 40 time and that's the thing that everybody talks about when you're running four or 5, 6 or someone said his slowest four 7. Yeah, that's eye popping. And I think at his size, the best comparison you have is Sean Taylor, who was a freakish athlete who was like a legitimately like a four three four four dude who could do all types of things. And the thing that scares me about Hamilton is just you end up having a situation like with Isaiah Simmons. I came at Clemson a few years ago. Positionless, you can do all these different things, but then it's like, where's the excelling? And I hope that it works out. I think it has to be the right scheme. I think it's got to be the right coach who understands how to take advantage of that because if it's not then I could easily see him being isolated on someone like a Darren Waller and getting taken advantage of. It's really easy to take advantage of guys who are not that quick in this league. And so that's the only thing I wonder about, but other than that, I think he's a terrific player. I'll give you guys stand this thing, just a little sneak peek at the one and only Rhett Lewis mock draft that next week, drafting a mock of integrity. That's right. Yes. Yes. So we obviously we kick off draft week with my mock draft on Monday. That's just like a tradition. So I think I'm gonna have Kyle Hamilton going to the Houston Texans at the 13th overall pick. Okay. Just 'cause I can't necessarily, I just, I have a hard time finding a home for him in the top ten unless somebody comes into the top ten to try to get him, but then I'm like, are people really giving up draft resources to trade into the top ten for a safety? And not to say that it's not an important position, but there are just, I feel like other positions of value, like tackles, I think you can see teams trade up for edge rushers. You're gonna see guys trade up for corners, perhaps. It's a hard position to be dominant at in today's game. Just because so many people play too high safety. So many teams are afraid to blitz now and like you said, James that being a chess piece is great, but you gotta be playing chess to make it work. I mean, you brought up Isaiah Simmons. I remember talking to Vance Joseph, their defense coordinator about it. He's like, it's cool, but it's more work for me. I want to have that like that piece in that versatility, but then I got to figure out how we're going to use you and then the other ten around you, how it all fits together. But I do think to have that impact, we were talking about Kansas City and we're talking about tired Matthew and Jeff you and I have talked to enough players who are like, if he's not on the field, the defense doesn't work. Yeah. Well, if we're talking about importance, there are some situations. And I think that scheme fit exactly his importance. They couldn't disguise what they wanted to disguise. They couldn't hide him in terms of blitzing, it could just because of his specific skill set. But I think that's why at least pieces an edge rusher fits everywhere, right? Like tackles fit everywhere, essentially. You got to find the right fit and find the right fit flourish. Don't find the right fit, you kind of fail and how do we make it? That's just one thought. But that was definitely got a sneak peek. Yeah. And so maybe I should tease that at the top of the show. Is it like Charles Davis's mock giraffe? Like every pick like you have to have people on NFL now like wondering, what's he thinking here? The other day. You're not for the Phoenix. Yeah, man. Rip the shots. I like that thought. What do you thinking here, Charles? Yeah, I'll show you guys my mentions once that thing drops on Monday of draft weeks. So look forward to that. That'll be a whole episode. We're just going to read mean tweets to Rhett following his mock draft. That'd be great. Appreciate your insights. Let me read a couple of them too. If I can. "You blew it. You blew it. That a great performance at all by Matthew Stafford. This defense by Tennessee picked this offense a part in the first half. It was at that. The first quarter, LA gets to fuel goal late. It's three zero. Going into the second quarter, Los Angeles Rams get the ball. They have it. And deep in their own territory around their own 5 yard line and Stafford, a lot of inside pressure to buy Isaiah Simmons. It gets him in the end zone. And instead of throwing it away before him, taking a safety, he throws an interception. Pulls a Carson Wentz last week. Titans are familiar with this one where Carson Wentz was in the end zone throws a pick 6. Matthew Stafford does the exact same thing throws it to David log. They get it right there, and then the next play easy touchdown by the Tennessee Titans. They get it back next play. Matthew Stafford pick 6 Kevin bayard, AFC defensive player of a month last week is a highest grade of safety right now and for good measure. He's been playing out of this world and staffers allows him to bite throws that pick 6. Then they get the ball back again. And they get a touchdown drop 21 to three at halftime. And they both have the same yards. It halftime they were both around 94 yards less than a hundred up the score was 21 to three. The defensive inside pressure was huge. Simmons had three sacks in the first half inside pressure was great using stunts on the defensive line to create the inside pressure not to force Matthew Stafford out of a pocket, but just straight bull rushes just to get with him and force him not to lead into his throw. Was key. And they had no answer even in the second half. He did a better job kind of moving the offensive line and pulling people, but Matthew Stafford could not get into any rhythm at all. They were able to drive down the field. But for you, we're not able to score, touchdowns. They scored a field goal in one red zone trip because of the ride receiver stepping out of devons, but this was overall a great performance by Tennessee. But this was not the dominating performance I was expecting by Tennessee. I was not expecting the defense, but I thought just maybe. This was a team that really dominated the Kansas City Chiefs. A few weeks ago, 27 to three could they do it again, be hanging against the bells and they beat them. This is a team that has be good teams. Can they do it and they did, I'm going to say the Titans defense came to play and if this is their new identity without Darren Henry, if it's this.

Here's the question i want to ask. Why do you lie to us and tell us that. These rookies aren't going to play. Do they have a skill or trade. That is going to allow them to survive. They couldn't do anything and they blocked a punt. and yes. The steelers defensive front is excellent. Buffalo's the better team. There is no question with the better quarterback bills at ten number nine denver. You gotta keep your eye on him. They average six yards a carry and the giants defense is good. Teddy bridgewater was fantastic. He completed seventy seven point eight percent of his throws and they won the possession time of possession by over ten minutes. We have set it all off season. I got real players. Elway got real players. George patton the gm. There's a real roster. They got the quarterback right and they decided as a franchise. We can win games that we just don't turn it over and they're right because they looked really impressive. This is a playoff roster. Whether they get there we'll see number eight arizona not sure what to make of them. Their defense had six sacks on ryan tannehill they only allowed three point eight yards a play. Forty-one seventeen with two minutes left before the wheels came off. They were the highest scoring team in the nfl this weekend. And let me give. Jimmy g. credit because i like them a lot more than you do. He does lose his confidence quickly. I mean they drafted his heir. Apparent is that's never good for a quarterback's ego but he was six for seven on passes. Ten plus yards down the field that is the highest percentage of any quarterback in the league in week. One believe it or not jimmy g. number six. Listen the cleveland. Browns lost to a great team k. They still averaged eight yards a play. That was the most by any team in the league They have to play a certain way with baker. They gotta play with a lead. Gotta play with the run game and once they started trailing and you asked baker to throw into a defense that no. He's throwing he. He's not the same quarterback but he's talented enough to win the division. I one division now. Their defense struggled on third down. But again it's mahomes everybody's gonna struggle on third down against mahomes so i don't wanna take too much of that. This is still a very good football team. That i think wins. Their division may win it by a couple of games number five. I don't know how many you watch the chargers. But they were fourteen of nineteen on third down that seventy four percent on third down against arguably the best defense in the nfc a defense. That gave tom brady trouble. In the playoffs rashawn slater. They're left tackle was monster chase. Young non factor at rush end the defense allowed the fewest yards passing yards by any team in week. One some of that is because they washed into their backup. They were so good on third down. Herbert was so under control between mike williams and keenan allen. They are tough tough team to defend in late downs number. Four buccaneers. Listen if you can turn the ball over four times and win. I didn't think they played well. I did not think tampa played. Well they turned it over to a highly explosive offense. Cowboys got four turnovers. They gave back the four turnovers. And they lost so tampa. Brady was one of two quarterbacks in the league that did not get sacked. I think the unheralded part of this team is their own line. We thought that was a huge issue. When tom came down we said new england got great lines. Tampa dozen tristan orff's ryan jensen the center. They're really good up front. They're really good upfront. And tom's got plenty of time to throw those weapons number three Seahawks listen russell. Wilson at the highest completion percentage in the league their defense got ten hits on carson wentz. And that's against an elite offensive line. They look really polished wide. Receivers run games. Listen they got five running backs here. They're special teams are good now. They got five running backs. So don't be shocked if they don't move a running back before the trade deadline bay a surplus of running backs i. There's not a lot here. I don't like i think they're thin on the offensive line. Don't love him at center. I think there are thin upfront. But now that dwayne brown is in russell. Wilson decay. Metcalf bobby wagner. Jamal adams you have elite elite players in their pass rush. This weekend was special number to kansas city. You overcome at twelve point deficit to a roster as good as cleveland. It's impressive mahomes now. Three and against baker mayfield. That's not a shot. But it tells you. He's never lost lamar jackson. He's never lost a baker and those guys are in a lot of games. Now right like the surreal. Good football team is the most score irrelevant team in the league. The score doesn't matter. They play as well behind. I can't say that about any other player in the league except tom brady. And maybe russell wilson score with eight minutes to go is largely irrelevant with kansas city. And it's incredibly relevant to virtually every other team in every other quarterback in the league mahomes now is eleven and oh in september but the concern is defensively. They need frank clark back and then he honey badger back because they got pushed around a little upfront number. One listen we knew the rams were good. It look so easy. Chicago is making the playoffs and been decent last couple years. They were eight nate last year at the at last half that wasn't even close and now they got the colts on the road this weekend. The buccaneers coming up. But the one thing the rams have missed in recent years. I think we'd all agree they don't have much homerun pop. They had to fifty plus touchdown passes bad to all season last year. They had to against chicago. So i think they saw the off season. They wanted more mahomes like pop. They wanted to be able to go over the top like a buffalo or a tampa. They wanted big play. Offense not just brilliant. Nine twelve play drives from mcveigh's brain and they delivered would matt stafford. I thought they were the best team i saw and.

The question i have for you is the fire in the background. Yeah that was now. Did you didn't does it. Light up when you draft. Isaiah simmons or i mean what pick fired. I bet you're like fire up. The coles fire up that that probably had to happen. Who took this photo. People wanna know you know you're allowed to have one. "She's Amber Wilson. I'm Joe Ford ball We're filling in for Greeny Mike. Bigger surprise to you yesterday. Minnesota going to Cincinnati and losing in overtime or the Titans getting thrashed at home by Arizona by 25 points. Well, I think it was certainly testy at home because I think that they have a chance to be a lead with PJ Brown, Julio Jones on the outside Derrick Henry and Ryan Channel. That defense was incredible. Chandler Jones came back five sacks. J. J. Watt made his presence felt Hassan Reddick. This is a really actually Isaiah Simmons made a big place for them. This is a really much more talented defense and people realize environment fee in the secondary. They have playmakers on all three levels. And then obviously you have a great calamari. But Tyler Lawan tweeted after the game, how poorly he played the Titan left tackle. So, um, I was very, very impressed by the Arizona defense. If you were looking at the schedule, and you were circling a game that the Jags could win, you would have expected it to be weak one against the Houston Texans. That did not happen. Not even close. Can Trevor Lawrence be good on this Jacksonville team? Yes, he can. I think they have to learn from their mistakes. They're gonna be more balanced. Can't have some throw the ball as many times he did. This is going to test the mindset of urban Meyer. Does he have a growth by sight? Does he understand that His best chance to win will be more balanced than offense and let Trevor Lawrence come along somewhat slowly, so Um, I was in shock. What happened yesterday? I think I was surprised by by the score. Um, but you know, urban Meyer and terror. Lawrence are very smart, talented guys, and I think they'll learn from their experiences and I expect them to be much more balanced in offense moving forward. She's 33 Browns 29 in a thriller, but it feels a little empty for Cleveland fans. At least in my opinion. Today, they lead the entire way 22 to 10 at the half. They jumped on them early in the first quarter and couldn't close the deal. Baker Mayfield gets the ball back with over two minutes. I believe in the fourth quarter and Throws an interception on the final drive. What should it take away? Be here for Cleveland? On one side. It's a great moral victory. You went toe to toe with the defending NFC champs. On the other side. You did have a chance to win this game, and you came up short. Mike, What do you think? Yeah, you're bigger beef. It was very accurate with the ball, but, um, again his size and speed to be caught up with him when the pocket compressed. He made that one bad throw cost them the game in terms of the interception. But you know, there's so many good things that they're doing, but isn't it ironic? Like Talk about two heavyweight games. You know, in the FC Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Kansas City in Cleveland, You know, the pumps really were as big, uh, game changing places anything so Cleveland will be there. In the end. There are very talented team I just don't put bigger may feel the same. Sure level of some of these other elite quarterbacks. Great stuff. ESPN NFL Front office. That might surprise you might sneak up on you. Nobody's talking about him, but Somebody Every year. They take a step forward. Somebody takes a step back. The NFL is built for parody. Elevator go up. Elevator. Go down. I said. I think the Chargers in one of the teams that I think will surprise the Washington football team. In a few minutes. We'll also talk about Cam Newton. This man said he was surprised when he was released. He actually spoke for the first time. Today, he released a video blog just talking about his experience and his way out the door. Share that with you in a 2nd 855 to 1 to four. CBS. If you want to give me a holler James he's calling from Chicago James you on CBS Sports radio. Say they are. How you doing tonight? Very well. What's up? Awesome. All right. This is a team. This is too easy for me, man. It's the Arizona Cardinals. You know what I'm going to tell you? Why it's the Arizona Cardinals. Not just because of their, uh, their offense, of course. Kyle Kyler Murray that got DeAndre Hopkins. They just picked up a J. Green. I know he's older. I know he gets injured a lot. But he can still be a perennial threat on the outside. But it's also that defense the defense right there with Sandberg, Jones, J. J. Watt, Isaiah Simmons, Byron Murphy, and then of course, my guy Buddha Baker. The team is going the NFC title game. You can mark my words on that. Okay. Did you make a bet last year? I didn't make a little bit last year, but you know what they want eight and eight. They lost the tie breaker to the Chicago Bears from the seventh seed, But you know what? I honestly think the Arizona Cardinals got this this year. I really do the losing the NFC title game. I'm not that crazy that they're going to go to the Super Bowl. They're going to get there. Okay, Well, uh, well, James actually actually mentioned them. They were one of the teams I mentioned as a potential surprise. That's true. I just think it's odd to say Oh, yeah, I think the Cardinals are going to go to the NFC championship game, But then you go. Then they're not going to win it. What do you think? Like the Buccaneers are going to smack them down or something? No, no, no, no. My green Bay Packers. Well, the whole Yeah, I Green Bay Packers. Okay, well, James's You living in Chicago. You love the Packers, and you're rooting for the Cardinals. Uh, to get there? Yeah, to get there. You know, you got to think with your mind, and that was your heart all the time, and I know I just contradicted myself saying attack is going to go the Super Bowl, But I do believe that the Cardinals have a team and hope. That they do have the team to get foreign playoffs. Okay. All right. Well, thank you, James for calling from Chicago. Wow. Okay. I don't know. It's just odd to say Oh, well, The team can go. They can go all the way to the the NFC Championship game, but then they're not going to win. How can you draw that conclusion? I mean, I said, I think the Cardinals can surprise people. I'm not going as far to say, Oh NFC Championship game and they lose. As a whole hell of a lot to worry and think about. I don't know if I'm going that much for a surprise, And I just told you speaking of surprises. We heard from Cam Newton. He gave us a little bit of a teaser. So Cam Newton if you're not familiar He has his own YouTube series. He's very active on social media, and today he dropped the video blog. Down at Westlake High School with his dad in Atlanta, where he went to school. It's him and his dad. They're sitting in the director chairs right in the middle of the field, and Cam Newton is basically breaking down his exit. You know, from the New England Patriots. We know. Obviously he went to Atlanta had to take care of an issue and and it was with the approval of the team. Matt Jones got More reps and a few days later, Boom Bill Belichick is saying. Oh, well, yeah, no. Can. We approved this travel and he had to go into protocol and he got cut. And one of the first things that, he said. On his funky Fridays on YouTube. Cam Newton said Yes, he was surprised that he was released. I will be remiss if I didn't You know be a be honest Did it catch me by surprise being released? Absolutely. And then a little bit more than that. You want to think about the reasons of why He said prior to being released He saw changes on the team. He saw changes and how he was treated. How the reps. He said that they would alternate reps. And that Mac was getting first team reps that yes, Cam might have been the number one quarterback. But they were alternating. And so he saw some of these changes coming. Listen. During that time. I started seeing signs of change, right? Mm hmm. I'm no. I'm no actress in the facility that practice practice. Not as far as how they treated me It was. It was no different..

"The football team. They have ryan fitzpatrick. They're likely gonna target a quarterback in the draft. Eventually who knows maybe make a run at aaron rodgers after next season. Although i see that as being unlikely but you team up saving howard kendall fuller. I think that's fantastic. Fantastic defense and they really would. Just be unstoppable. You couldn't you couldn't. It'd be tough to move the ball on those guys. Now the seahawks. They've been a real need for lockdown corner. You pair him in a secondary with jamal adams and that very intriguing so they should be calling miami and seeing. What kind of deals they're offering up arizona as well because they need a number one corner after. Patrick peterson is gone. And then arizona's intriguing to me because patrick peterson's gone. He's definitely out of his prime. Still cornerback that's going to be starting the nfl for the next few years as he is going to this year with minnesota. But he's not that true number-one lockdown corner that xavien howard is where you can just say we can week out. Put that guy on your best receiver in. You're you're falling in the whole game. We trust you to do that. So arizona really needs that kind of position filled. And it's intriguing because you have that you've incredible secondary of Buddha baker and then you also have to really intriguing middle linebackers in zaven collins the rookie just drafted as simmons. I mean those two for their size. Some that'd be the one of the be one of the fastest linebacking duos in the league key if they can stay healthy and stay together. I'm really excited about isaiah simmons but if david collins can be that first round talent that he's made out to be that'd be huge for the cardinals defense and you're looking at a really lethal unit. If you add savvy and howard to that mix all opposite of murray gender hopkins and those weapons on the offensive side of the ball the falcons and the saints. There's those are two other really good teams to look out for for this trade. I mean the falcons have been unable to slow teams down in through the air and the saints could really kind of solidify that defense with marshon. Lattimore. marcus williams. You can kind of make a decision on those two guys and decide which one you wanna keep. And then keep seven howard. Obviously the saints salary. Cap session is a very fluid thing and they need to move money around but you had lattimore howard on the same team. That's that's it's gonna be very tough to pass on those guys so those are some teams. I like to make a trade for david. Howard overall. I don't like the fact that this is still going on the nfl players or teams not honoring players. That do what they're told to do. And then way more and by in terms of just way over exceeding your expectations. I think that should be rewarded in the nfl. And i have no problem with a player. Requesting trade from their team in this scenario because league xavier howard said it does not seem like the dolphins are operating in dealing with him in good faith. So that'll do it for my second segment of today's show once again you're listening to the gmc football podcast presented to you by the golden state media concepts. I'm your host white krieger. "To be able to the defense the defense load autos alabama guys. They plan on defense. And then you get another. Sec ganj davis jack del rio and ron rivera both get a chance to impart their wisdom rio. It's him. be because formula machias played at high level You get young affect dynamic playmaker. That can make things happen. The speed speed on tape. He is a blizzard Man he's fine. Yeah it was some interesting linebackers. I really think you know. I'm a big fan of A worst care more. I think he i still think that he could end up. Having as big an impact on from this draught classes. Any linebacker and we're talking about some some pretty good linebackers but figuring out who he is and what he is in year one. I don't know You know. I'm looking at what happened with isaiah simmons and maybe i remember before the draft thinking the same thing that's going to happen with the worst care. Were they gotta figure out what his home basis is like. It's easier to figure out who will. Super bowl is right now. He's a he's a slot. He's one of those star position guys from college. That just has to prove he can be a will is what i think. He is with. Isaiah simmons i truly. You know i didn't see linebacker instincts. I knew that would take a low wild for him to get used to that position. I think a big thing and and this is what we can make. The mistake of doing sometimes will rename evaluation businesses. We love versatility. We love that can do a lot. But there's something to be said for the person at masters the one thing they're asked to do so when i look at him. I just think yes everything that you look for everything that you could possibly want. Vientiane see high plays. Yeah and then I think in terms of impactful rookies on the defensive side. At cornerback position. No there are some really talented guys. I was a huge fan of a passer tan. And then of course. Jc greg newsom caleb farley. We know farley probably will take a little longer to come. You know to get going but when i looked at the top two guys and you see ser tan and jc. Horn i mean right off the bat. Jc horn is has a chance to really make his mark because he's going to be facing off against guys like And not that. He didn't do it in college and actually did a pretty decent job of taking on cockpits. But he's gonna have cal pits to worry about. He's gonna have to calvin ridley to worry about. He's going to have those peace over in tampa bay to worry about. So he's got his hands full over there now if he if he shows out that's rookie of the year type candidates stuff if you're able to really do a nice job because so many people cite these. These advanced statistics from pro football focus and other sites with how guys do against top matchup. So everyone will be aware of a guy like j. c. Hornet ser tan is in denver. We already know. Oakland is Trying to build over there wide receiver. We know what we know a kansas city. Has we know what the chargers have. So those two guys stepped into a tough situation. But that's why you're draft. That's why people covet you inside..

"The Packers every year. You know how that is. The bears always a crapshoot. We always end up screwing one of the game's over, and that was that week one where we literally were winning, and it didn't matter. It was just like Mitch coming through for some reason, because you always know whenever you face the Bears. Whoever he's whoever. Mitch is quarterbacking against its plus for the other team. Oh, yeah. Kept lions, but I mean, the Vikings are kind of a coin flip to Yeah, they're always mediocre, And they can always, you know, win a game here and there, and that's the thing we do play a tough division. I know I'm being like Super Uh, you know, pie in the sky like unrealistic, but like they don't even have to win the division that that team can easily go. Like 10 and six and still get the five or six seed. And there'll be a good team. There's normally two good teams in this division every year. This is a tough division of playing. I just can't wait till Rogers is out of town. Oh, man, that will be. Oh, that really will be amazing older than you guys. But everybody was saying, Oh, we'll just wait until Brett Farve leaves the NFC North dude. Yeah. You can't wait for that. Can't wait for somebody else to make a mistake Is that after he retired for the first time, and they go Oh, finally, the Packers reign of terror is done. Then Here comes Aaron Rodgers than all of a sudden, Brett Farve comes back at retirement. There was a there was a point. When did Brett Farve played for the Vikings? What year was that? Was that before staffers right out of Oh, eight or nine. It was like Was that his first team out of retirement? He went to the Jets first. He went? Yeah, he went to the Jets. Okay, Then he went to the okay. Yes, they made the playoffs. They're a good team because they had their LaDainian Tomlinson in. Yeah, they were a pretty good team. Yeah, they had a date in talented, and they also had Braylon Edwards from Michigan with Brett Farve. Just imagine this because I don't know if this ever I don't know if this time I've ever happened, but Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford. Brett Farve, and then who was the give Me the quarterback for the bear? Was it Jay Cutler at the time in the NFC North and Brett Farve accountable? Jason Campbell? Yeah, you'd Brett Farve, Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford and Jay Cutler is the four quarterbacks. The NFC North. I'm not sure if that ever overlap each other, but that would be historic will be hilarious. But when the Packers finally when the Brett Farve there was over, nothing changed. The Packers are always going to be good. They're like Ohio State like they're never gonna be bad. But this is the situation that I've been talking about. Over and over again. We're like, I don't think we should get rid of Stafford. If we're looking on grooming the next guy, because who do we have Right now? We have chase Daniel dude who's been in the league a handful of years. We don't actually have his like. Next. The second coming next dude in line like they did were okay. The Packers were good with Farve. They kind of knew he was running out. And what do they do? They take a low risk. Draft pick. Pick up Rogers Give him the clipboard for a year and a half or two years. I think Aaron Rodgers opportunity to learn the system, get in line and figure it out. And he could make it work. That's the best thing that ever happened to him. Would you rather go that route? Or would you rather just, you know ship Stafford off for multiple draft picks Start Chase Daniels next year win like one game win one game. And picked number one overall in draft in elite, but the next Heisman Trophy winner, this kind of parallels what you were talking about with the whole like proposed like getting Khalil Mack. We don't have a defense. Getting the first pick ain't going to matter because, like, yeah, we still don't have. That's the biggest problem with getting that first picking him being like some generational quarterback guy. You're literally putting him onto the worst team. There's too many problems to lie, and so you can't just expect one draft to fix them all is the Lions need what they do need another quarterbacks. They're going to have to fix that need at some point, But the defense, I think is a bigger need right now. At the moment, the defenses If they're not the worst defense of the National Football League. They might as well should be, because every week it's always like when they played. Carolina Carolina was statistically the worst worst defense in the league, and the Lions absolutely tanked with Teddy Bridgewater. No. It was a backup quarterback PJ Walker, PJ Walker and accept the XFL picked us apart without Christian McCaffrey. So a backup quarterback in a backup running back with the worst defense of the National Football League, beat the Lions when they were kind of healthy. So the defense right now, I think is the bigger, bigger need as a whole for the Lions, and I don't know about trade for Cologne Mac. For Matthew Stafford as humanly possible, but I think they knew they do need to address this in free agency and in the draft. Maybe the first round pick should be. You know, the next big linebacker look at Isaiah Simmons type for Clemson happened last year when I was all for him. But maybe that's give me the needed to go..

"Fifty is just an incredible steel. I mean i thought he could have been a mid mid first rounder just based on how how. Some teams seem to love him. So that was that was tremendous in. Yeah obviously picking up the extra draft capital for next year. Dave gettleman really showed them in this year's draft. I love the dave gettleman and ryan pace turned into cool. Hand luke this weekend like evolve the people but i secretly like i. I'm i'm very happy for dave gettleman. Now that he is an analytical darling it is it is completed the one eighty that we needed to make as a society. So i like it. I like it a lot. Yeah as he's oj. Laurie he he was the edge guy in this draft fast and that bendable around the edge even need some. I mean that that's so much to work with. That's like ninety percent of the battle. I think to finish my point. What i was trying to say is i could see a talented ed. Rusher slipping it. I would not have guessed it would have been ojha lari news not one that i would have expected to slip. Yeah we're gonna get to a lightning round. that probably won't be very lightning round In a minute here. But i just didn't want to touch on this. Real quick is one the things i found really interesting when we did our draft exercise our mock draft series the quadrille g that you all know one love that exercise is based heavily on t. needs and we're assigning who yellow. We would kind of when thinking about those. Tv's first and foremost and guys who are probably valued higher end up in the twenties and it's et cetera We ended up signing jeremiah. Wushu komo to the browns at twenty six and it just sort of felt like i on draft night. Obviously he won't be available there but you know he's a guy who would fit really well but they need and instead on they getting fifty two. So what sort of stood out to me for this pick and obviously i. You know. I'll i'll i will speak for you guys and say we don't like the pick isaiah simmons. This time last year it was all out position. Lists football and isaiah simmons. You can do anything you want with him. And and for the cardinals. It kind of became this kind of thing where it was like. They didn't know what to do with him. And i don't know if that's necessarily a a huge. Joseph who i think did a tremendous job with that defense last year but they just couldn't find the right use fries ahah simmons and did that sort of rub off onto the guy. They call j. o. k. And is that the reason he ends up slipping is you had a lot of defensive coordinator saying like i i get it you know. Here's a linebacker who you can almost plays defensive back if you have to. But what is he. What's you know where you end up playing him in our scheme. What's his position. And are we sort of maybe very quietly slide away from position list football because guys i i don't know he seemed to e seem to scare teams often the end. Yeah i think you're right. Gary that precedent often does affect future players. And because the simmons situation was somewhat hard to figure out and somewhat frustrating right because he was exciting player. One of the most talked about players least defensive players in last year's class and to not see him make the impact that perhaps you would have hoped last season. I i think did affect the stock of others this year and i perhaps you look at j. o. k. And say well..

"They're going to take advantage of it. I don't see him can you know, converting them to running back to using him in a running back roll? I see him using his receiver out of the backfield. Ted's world This is my cat. A bomb? You sort out their front seven. How do you think they're gonna deploy between Collins? The versatility of Isaiah Simmons? Obviously, Chandler Jones came back off of Surgery. And JJ Watt how you think all those pieces are gonna fit together? I knew that answer. I'd be driving in Vegas right now. They just have so much depth up front. Obviously, I think you know you have to insult Chandler Jones back in his starting spot. One now that he's healthy from The biceps injury cheesy what will probably get one of the starting the other starting job, you know, then you have, you know, to really good backups and Devon Kennard in Margaret's Golden. I think the biggest question Mark knows what to do with Jordan takes the veteran inside linebacker who was you know the green dot He was the quarterback of the defense, Do you? Keep him around and let him mentor. Ah, guy like college or do you say we're going toe? You know, install Collins of Day one starter because Steve time the Cardinals are Amanda history said that or on Thursday. Excuse me, said that You know, he planned on Collins playing alongside Isaiah Simmons. So if you're gonna put those two guys at inside linebacker, one of them has to be the green dots. You're gonna have two guys with two or fewer tour left years of experience running your defense. Little concerning to me, considering how important this year is for you, Um, you know, but it could be a situation where maybe they do keep picks, but Colin's next to him. And then you move idea swimming around like they did a lot last year. You played a lot more safety than they let on so that I could see that happening. I could even moving Simmons a little bit of a plot. Little bit off the edge. Um, but Collins, I think they're gonna want him inside. You know, he had great violence inside line speed. He said he's a big guy so he can deliver everything if they need him, too, But I think they're gonna keep him inside. Put it there there when, when, when? When needed. I think the biggest question now is going to be what they do with Jordan picks and where do they line up? Idea, Simmons? Most of the time. All right. So, Josh, what do you expect to Cardinals to still get accomplished throughout the course of the draft. I think that they need one more offense. Alignment. I think they need a tight end. I think those are the two biggest, um, needs at this point. I think it's the right wide receivers on the board. They can use another big body. Tall guy. Um, but I think those are the three main priorities left. You guys can follow him on Twitter at Josh, One of us just we appreciate your time and enjoy beautiful, beautiful Arizona While we're here in Connecticut. I'm not jealous or anything enjoying my friend. Thanks for having me. Guess I think the Cardinals have put themselves in a really nice situation going. Yeah, I disagree with him on as far as even Collins goes because he's not inside. I mean, he's gonna be lining up outside. That's why, Yes, the question. So you've got one in Jones? I know. Simmons is gonna play further away from line of scrimmage. But if Collins is going outside It seems like to spend a premium pick like they did. I was curious to see how that's going to sort out and talking to David Collins last night. I mean, he said, You don't want me up. Where do you want me to put my hand in the dirt? I put my hand the dirt. You want me to cover our recovery carrier tidying up the scene, You name it, I'll do it. On then Marco Wilson. We just talked about him about the now and a half ago for people just tuning in a corner out of out of Florida. Most people remember him for the shoe toss and yellow shoe game and ended up costing Florida The game is on Lee unsportsmanlike conduct in his entire college football career. His dad played to you. His brother plays corner in the in the league. I think they got a steel and Marco Wilson and his hops are ridiculous. And I'll say this about Marco. The reason he slid. It wasn't because of talent. There was times on tape this year. He just looked disinterested. There were there were there were games where he just didn't look like you really. Was dialed in almost protecting himself. Maybe maybe, and you know that happens that that definitely happened. So it's not a talent issue. If they hit on the talent. They've got a guy that complaint. Oh, no. Is this anything the Arizona Cardinals do? I think it's great. Well, I will say, I will say for anyone that goes back and looks at the saving Collins highlights their remarkable and it's a sounding. I'll also say this. I know a bunch of people this year that called different games for Tulsa. Every single one of them came back to me afterwards. When you talk about and said, Look, there is one kid. It's not about the highlights. It's about every single plate. There's one kid there. You have got to check out. That's a beast, and it's him. I called the man sitting to my right, Jim Naggy and only do every game but I call. Give me a couple guys, and it was one. He can't come to the senior Bowl, but just go watch 23 enjoy it was it I mean, man Crush six against two lane. I mean, Wonderful. You £270. That's really rare. Yeah, Absolutely. I think I understand why you confessed to me. You winning I nt against me when we called that game, All right, So we're gonna let the guys over in sports nation with Trevor Scales Field, Gates and Michael Jr take over. In the meantime, when we come back, you're on radio. We'll get you caught up on everything that's been happening. This is the 2021 NFL draft on ESPN radio. Presented by Sherwin Williams..

"Means Please do it. See honor of announcing your Cincinnati Bengals pick I got you. You come with me. Oh, wow, Cincinnati it's our year. Black own boys in the building who they And with the 46 pick and the 2021 NFL draft. Cincinnati Bengals Select Jackson Carmen Tackle Clemson. So there's the tackle off the board. We're starting to see the run on tackles. I am surprised, though I Jalen Mayfield's another guy that I saw in a lot of round one mocks the Michigan offensive tackle. He's a young guy. Just a redshirt sophomore six FT. 53 £20. He's still on the board, but we see coming off the board there. Jackson Carmen. He's the offer to tackle out of Clemson, so they do end up getting the help for Joe Burrow. At tackle whether or not you know, I think this guy probably slots up on the right side unless you move Jonah Williams, which could happen Yeah, um I'm okay with there being a run on tackles because I don't. I don't think that's really in play for the bills. I mean, they could do it in the later rounds. I think to add some depth, but you just signed their Williams to a long term deal. And you've got the end. Dawkins on a long term deal, like your starting tackles for the foreseeable future are set. So to have run here, pushing all the other positions down the board. I'll take it. I hope it continues here. You just mentioned a couple guys that go off the board. There's the North Dakota state kid that had a lot of people have ranked highly among the Among the tackles resumes yet red dunes raccoons so there could be a couple more that even go after this. Maybe even the Chargers? No. The charges did that Chargers did get Chris. They got response later, They mentioned wide receiver there being three really good ones that could interest the bills at 61. The Chargers are a team I think about for that. Mike Williams has one year left on his deal. Um Keenan Allen is great, but you need more than Keenan Allen. They lost Hunter Henry to free agency. So they've got some vacated past targets. And you've got a Potentially elite young quarterback and Justin Herbert that another weapon might be if he feels like pairing up Derwin James hit. Maybe he'll be healthy for the first time. They did lose corner This year. They lost Casey Hayward. Maybe this is the This is the time we see Asante Samuel, June next time stop the board that that that could make a lot of sense here. For the Chargers. I'd like to write and thought, though tight ends. Not shouldn't be. Are they had seen that worries you little long term the Chargers. They're in the conference that it's not like they're in the division, but However, the Chiefs I'd be worried that guy's in my division. Herbert? Yeah, days. I'd like to see your two of Herbert. Before I before I Re used to anoint him. Okay. He did have like the best rookie seasons statistically I've ever seen. But at the same time, you know what I would have a lot more confidence in them. Had they hired Brian Table is the head coach. They had got the the bright offensive mind modern day pre snap motion working to get the receivers open. Make it easy on the quarterback. If they had done that they'd hired Brian Table which a lot of people expect that they would do. I would have a lot more confidence in their passing offense going forward. I still like it. I like it a lot. Like hiring a defensive mind brain and Staley, Um Not my favorite. And then who did they bring this? Their office coordinator? I feel like I wasn't impressed. Forgot who it was. Joe Lombardi. Yeah. Think they should've hired Abel. I'm glad they didn't. But as my, um Yeah. Vick assigned to sama Junior's off the board here, okay? Almost I'm not thinking and it's what Twitter says so. Okay, You're reporting to us and I don't. This is the pick. I don't. I don't. I don't want to take credit. I want people to be like, Well, Nate's calling All of these pics. I'm I'm not I'm Randall Moore is on the board. That's my guy. I was. I liked him A 30 at 30. He might be there. It's 61. I don't know The bills make that pick though. I've said it before. Just the injury concerns the guy they have to go back 2018 to watch the film on, um Soft tissue injuries, too. I mean, a guy that with that skill set we've seen this from Will Fuller will follow is a little bit different of wide receiver. He's more straight ahead speed, random or side to side. But Guy with that is that fast that is always getting hamstring and groin injuries. That is, I mean that that sounds like Sammy Watkins. So seeing from Matt Miller Nfldraftscout on Twitter and of ESPN, reaching out to several NFL scouts about Jeremiah Woo Suk Paramo and why he's still on the board a couple of quotes Scheme fit really difficult. No linebacker coaches at his pro day teams don't view him as a linebacker. He's £214. I know what that matters again. Darius Leonard, starting one of the best middle linebacker, football's £215 mental lapses, Not fast tape is fun doesn't translate that Albert Breer was the first kind of response back to that, saying, it's the Isaiah Simmons effect. It Z. I think Isaiah Simmons is scaring teams away from Jeremiah Woo Suk Paramo, and it's difficult. It's tough for him because I think a lot of people myself included viewed him as a lock. First rounder on gets tough for a guy who you know, maybe could have went back to school and maybe developed and gain some weight and played linebacker..

"Off the corner, safety offensive line, defensive tackle, certainly the premium positions, the Cowboys going to be going after the rest of this draft, all right? That's, that's going to do it for the short abbreviated version of the Cowboys beat podcast. Just talk about Micah Parsons again. Overall, I'm a fan of pick from a standpoint of From a lot of different people. I've talked to you got the best defense to play this draft, okay? And you got the third bullet, third defense player off the board but but a lot of people think he's the best defense to put in this draft, similar to Isaiah Simmons, were the profile is a hybrid linebacker, Uber athletic great speed. Sideline-to-sideline questions about his ability to point of attack and strength there you know and then there's the off-the-field stuff but but ultimately the cowboy is I believe picked the best player on the board and that's what I asked them to do, that's what they did. I will be right back next week to recap the entire draft. Make sure to follow or subscribe to the podcast. If you have not yet already and give us a rating and then please please, please have to urge you all. Please tell a friend. Friend just one friend. I'm literally asking you to do that. "In the cowboy said, we're not going to move down to twenty kids, not going to get our guy and they knew if they made the trade with a guy who for some reason, want to go to the Giants. Maybe they thought the Giants going to take Smith. I don't know, not really sure what the Giants were afraid of or the Eagles. I should say but at any rate they take Parsons they, this is the guy they want it. Ten clearly thought they knew that he was going to be there at 12. They make the trade they end up with the additional third, Micah Parsons Ran a three right up in a, a 439. 40-yard dash it. His size. It's incredible. I mean, he, he is one of the he's probably the most athletic off the draft is, he's a very similar player to Isaiah Simmons. Last year, coming out of Clemson. These are the modern linebackers. that are extremely athletic great, sideline-to-sideline speed, you know, can cover So, you know, look, I mean, I certainly not a guy that I would have, surely not a guy that I was totally high on. A lot of that was based on number one off-field issues, which, you know, he's involved with the hazing incident took and state was pretty graphic, you know, I'm sure he was asked about this the Cowboys. And, you know, he probably talked about the fact he was inexperienced, and young, and Seventeen eighteen, whatever it is, and, you know, I mean, his certify them better for the doubt of that point, but there's those and then there's the positional piece import is linebacker. Given that, if you improve the interior of the defensive line, you improve your corners and safeties, you're in good shape. Now look I sell that to say. I say pretty consistently, take the best player in your board. But first, let me tell you about my friends have been online. But online the fastest and easiest way to bet on all your Sports Action home, obviously, we're in the thick of the football offseason, but you can check out some of the Futures. That's what they haven't, including the wind totals, for the Cowboys division winners. If you're so confident the Cowboys winning the NFC, you can bet on that right now plus box..
Should the Patriots replace Cam Newton with Jarrett Stidham?
"Think this is where we need to start because it's where everybody is starting when we talk about the Patriots and where we're at with Cam Newton right now in terms of the Patriots quarterback of the here-and-now home and also maybe even looking Beyond here and now to the 2021 season even and here in New England you turn on Boston sports radio, and I'm not trying to pick on those guys, but there are definitely talking a lot about Jarrett Stidham and the possibility of benching Cam Newton for Jarrett Stidham. I think they're crazy. But that that's a topic for another day. Mostly I want to focus on what are your opinions right knee about how cam is playing and how he can obviously improve from objectively. What was a very bad game on Sunday against the Cardinals whether you're a chemist and or a cam hater. Yeah, and it wasn't dead. A game against Arizona and Arizona. First of all, I think you have to remember that Arizona's defense is a lot different than Houston's defense. It's a lot different than Seattle's defense back in week to that Houston game. That's you know game those were two games with Jim actually got the passing game going and you felt hey maybe they could put together a passing game that could actually be effective Arizona see on their athletic. They fly all over the place Isaiah Simmons budda Baker. Like they have guys that can play they have some different things and they certainly they were putting an egg nine guys in the box of times. I'm sure having you saw that as well. I know you have from some of the work you've done they were basically dare in New England like go ahead. S game by throwing the football and it looked like they couldn't, you know, they got a couple breaks at the end with a missed field-goal and Isaiah Simmons penalty then put them in position to win, but they didn't win that game because of the passing game, but you know, that often said, I think we all have to sort of take a step back and realize a couple of things one. You mentioned I studied quarterbacks. Each week at USA Today. I have to do what we call a QB camp where I put up five of my quarterback videos of the most notable quarterback performances. There are some weeks friends. It's hard to find five good quarterback package, which is league-wide It's just tough. This is one of those weeks like you might get Baker Mayfield than that because there's just not great quarterback players Patriots fans were spoiled from two decades of Tom Brady where we took the best at the quarterback position weekend and week out but then when you take a step back and you don't have that and you see guys like, you know, Derek Carr and his high variance play or Baker Mayfield in his high variance player. Look at Carson waves, I mean talk about somebody that's regressed. He's regressed all the way back to his senior year at North Dakota State quarterback plays tough. And right now we have a quarterback. That's high variance. Well, that's one thing. I think we need to remember the other is this he came in late in a strange year in the midst of a pandemic with no training camp more minimal training camp. No minicamps. No OTAs, no prestige. James be tough complicated offense to run that has so many different moving parts. You've read The Playbook, you know, Evan every road has like six different variations. I'm trying to do is hard. There are some play books that are easy. It's like oh, yes, this makes sense Bruce Arians Playbook. It's kind of easy. Nothing really changes Josh McDaniels doing the Patriots Playbook. It's like quantum physics for me. Like I I can't figure it out. And so to try to do that in the midst of all this is difficult. So with that context, I think you know, if you want to get into the home Jared versus cam debate. I don't really think there is one because as you pointed out this week on Twitter Bill Belichick has seen Jarrett Stidham now for almost two years. He's seen him every day in practice if Jake was going to be the answer to what fixed to what else is Patriots passing game. Yes, he would play him but he's not so that tells you what you need to know about Jackson them. I was on Jarrett Stidham home. Right before they signed Camp. I remember I wrote the peace and said look Jack said it was a planet quarterback everybody and I'm so glad I snuck in at the ad. Well, look if they could get can do it for cheap short not be great. But Jarod said it was a planet like two weeks later. I signed Cam Newton Cam right now gives them the best chance to win games. Is it through the passing game most weeks? Probably not, you know this week might be a get right opportunity. But if I you know, if for the 2021 season, I still think canvas done enough to earn the chance to win this job with a full complement of training camp preseason, all that stuff of the engine needs to get better at Short of the mechanics break. Absolutely not do they matter. Sometimes they actually do but right now he's the best shot they've got week in and week out to win games.
