"On the drive at this moment. WGN sports director. Dave it Andy's boss. Where are you Dave? Irving park road on the drive right now. And let's see, I set sail about seven fifteen this morning from three threes, Wacker and a great morning. I, I was a little nervous about the weather, but did it has been just perfect? Rodney conditions for the eighteenth annual. Fifth third bike drive. It's been great. So what what's your plan? Now, are you going to continue going north? And then head back down to Hyde Park. I started after leaving the WGN radio tower, I went to Columbus Jackson trends there. We went south made the turnaround science history. And then we're making our way north and get a goal is far north, as I think, rim more, that's we're going to probably turn around and head back to grant park. But there's a there's. Yeah, go ahead. Well, how would you describe this, this feeling of? You know everyone talks about how it's almost meditative to be on the drive without carts. Well, it is, it's, it's the second time I've done it, and I think that's what struck me when I did it a couple of years ago that you get this rare glimpse of our city and the magnificent lakefront. And, and the beautiful skyline that you just don't get every day when you're flying along at forty forty five miles an hour and a car lakeshore drive. It's just it's totally different. And it's, it's quieter. That's one thing you notice it's you. It's a little more peaceful. And there's a sense, I think a sense of come rodri- die. You do have the, the one of the Lance Armstrong's out, here trying to win the tour to France. And you also have him majority, I think, are, are out for more leisurely Sunday ride on the drive and it's just, you know, people are considerate. It's, it's just like. Gravity Kennedy at rush hour. Everybody's looking out for the other motor. Oh, wow. I don't know which Kennedy you're talking about. But. There's the big festival going on the post right festival, which anyone can go to right. That a Butler think, right? Yes. And that's open until noon. And we have both the, the WGN TV WGN radio booth out there. So I want wanna stop if you're in the area, and there's all kinds of snacks. Are you going to be there when you finish the are you gonna stop by the booth and maybe people can come and Pat, you down with the towel and, you know, take take some Dave Bennett sweat, some Dave ended DNA, I don't know that they would necessarily want that. But, but sure, let's stop by there and check in and enjoy. Let's see. I'm on, I think my second banana of the more. So I might you know, a little more potassium, my happy about bad. Yeah. You probably have to stop in, in a rehydrate yourself. Now tell me how do you dress for this because our producer Ariel was on the drive earlier today? He was talking about a lot of people in the lycra, you know, like the serious, biker clothes and gear. Please don't put that visual in my mind for you, or, you know, dean did I wear the Laker every day to the station? For this. I would do something a little bit different. So when the last time we did this, my wife bought me a pair of a biking shorts, they're not lycra, but there they've got like the Patty extra padding on them. Yes. In all the right places, right? Yes. Yeah. So I'm wearing those and actually I brought a couple of layers, I haven't even needed to break those out. I've just been at a t shirt and shorts and biking shoes. I do have a pair of biking, shoes, biking shoes. If you're if you're out bike and penalty, why do you need special shoes for that? Well, you don't really this was just sort of a luxury. They're just very lightweight shoes. Probably I don't know anybody know how you describe bike shoes. Thirty souls. I'm tolls thirty civil spill. Okay. Thirty. I know we're all sturdy sold. That's what it takes to drive this to ride. This thing is that w sturdy soul. Andy. Do you have any sports questions for Dave? I was just curious what if there's any activity at Soldier Field? Anything going on OT a wise, the while you by I not that I saw don't know if they were marching, the rookie is through there again. Like they did a few days ago. But, you know, everybody kinda paused and saluted the bears, they went by as as a separate. So unless beyond David Davis, pretty much in this just to slowly go down lakeshore drive, and look in people's windows. He's not really paying very much attention to. When you're holding did not. But when he said when he said that you notice things that you don't normally drive see when you're driving your car. That's what he meant. He's looking at ways. Yeah. Exactly. Right. But we want to take the people at fifth third Bank, and the active transportation, alliance, which, you know, is really trying to build a better Chicago in terms of promoting the use of, of biking, and, and making it more accessible and, and you really get a sense of that, when you see how much more access there is now they even from where we are at three zero three wack or much more easy access to the lakefront to the lakefront path to the river, walk right across the street from us, which now connects over with the lakefront, Pat so well. And the active transportation, alliance is the beneficiary of the fifth third. Bike the drive, you know, whatever fees you pay to be part of this. That goes to active transportation alliance, which is a nonprofit organization and not only access to lakefront paths and so forth, but really all over the city, you know, bicycle access is at an all time high right now. So they they've, they've got their work cut out for them making it safe for people who are biking, and walking and interacting with cars every single day. They do a great job with this event, because you do safety is the primary concern and you do feel safe out here. They have a ton of volunteers, whether it's helping with hydration or nourishment nutrition or or just checking wristbands, as you ride by directing traffic, because it is, this is a major production ear. And it just a little while they're going to start moving people off lakeshore drive. So they get the cars back on. I think at ten thirty. So it's really a great event, if you didn't get a chance to do it this year. Then sign up and join us out here next year Memorial Day weekend. Yeah. You can actually sign up now for next year. If you're totally into that, I'm gonna I'm gonna see if we get somebody on our text line made a very good suggestion to see if we can get some sort of corporate sponsorship for WGN radio riders. And if this happens, I would actually, I would participate Nick. Year if we get preparation H as a corporate sponsor of this. Count me in. I'm going to get busy on that as soon as we're done here, count me in. If we get that, all right. Dave have fun out there. And we'll see tomorrow morning on the Steve Cochran show. All right. Thanks, sandy. There's Dave Egner WGN sports director, with us a quick break. We'll update news next on WGN while the honor those who have fallen this Memorial Day. We'll check in on our veterans, Chicago's own Gary Sinise, and the honorable Robert Wilkie secretary of the US department of veterans affairs. Plus, we'll catch up with Chicago.

Twenty WGN let's just get you up to date in terms of what's happening, also Jimmy's gonna get. You up to date on what's having Natalie in Chicago but around the country and what I will I will tell you now is that northbound and southbound lanes. Of lake shore drive have been closed at Fullerton northbound at Irving park southbound there are about one hundred and fifty protesters that are on lake shore drive now on the southbound lanes, of lake shore drive near the Belmont that just just south of Belmont street but where the Belmont on ramp would would. Meet lake shore drive is where they are amassed is a much smaller protests we have been able to talk to, both the police and the the demonstrator the, demonstration leader here Which is the Reverend who's been who we've talked to a number of times over the last couple of days here Reverend Livingston and they they said that there were more buses of protesters set to arrive at air stuck in. Traffic which we find to be greatly ironic thing but that was like forty minutes ago though wasn't when we spoke with him and, he said about five more buses that they were waiting for those to arrive. So they delayed that sort of four four fifteen start time for. The March and these had more like four thirty four forty five which would, be right about now. We're in that window but we really haven't seen this crowd grow in that time it's spirit remained about one fifty one sixty people that we've been looking at. That seems of actually dwindled a little bit when you take into account we're. Looking at helicopter shots of this when you take into account the number of police in media who are, not moving they're staying there covering this until until these people are moved off of the protesters moved off of southbound lakeshore. Drive or or leave southbound lakeshore drive the plan for this protest was then to start to move Move north on well to actually, go west and Belmont drive get, onto Belmont go west I've Belmont to Clark street and then north and Clark street. To Wrigley field where there's a night, game tonight at seven o'clock start against. The Padres now what I think you're, starting to see, here is some movement up lakeshore drive northbound on lake, shore drive and and you know there is a way to. Get to to get off at. Addison on lakeshore drive you know there's a gate at Addison on these southbound lanes that. Are often used by a. Traffic control personnel to alleviate the stress. On on Addison after games to get people to drive more easily right and so, you you do it it does appear that they're moving and you wonder if maybe they have with consultation with the police department they decided to move this group actually down lake shore drive's opposed to down bell Mont and then they'll move them down Addison and when they hit, the wall of drunks on Addison I don't know what's going to happen good luck You can't you, can't even walk on Addison at any any game night right, once you get within four, blocks of the part that's true so. I'm not quite sure and they'll walk right past a, police station by the way which is. Right there The new, one PlayStation. Live seen a lot of, things go happen right in front of that police station before, and after games yeah That is, true but they are they're moving you're right, row in the there's just there's, no there's just very peaceful protests as you can see they're holding. Their signs. Already drew in chalk their messages on lake shore drive and they're, moving north in the southbound lanes of lake shore drive all right let's check in with. Judy with what's happening. There and throughout Chicago hundreds of protesters expected to take well have actually taken over lake shore drive this? Afternoon.
