"That Lakers ownership. I think it was Jack. Kente Cook at the time. I'm sorry I got brave freeze right now but I think it was Jack. Kente Cook the point is is that there was a question as to whether or not he used to own the Lakers before Jerry Buss did but there was a question as to whether or not the Lakers should take Irvin Magic Johnson for Acidini Moncrieff. Outta coming out of Arkansas. I remember correctly now. Guess what Max. Obviously we saw the Lakers pit because they wanNA show talk but city moncrieff was an all world defensive player who could put in twenty or night. Magic wasn't putting the twentieth night immediately. The point that I'm trying to make it ain't just about the numbers it's about the game. Even though Cindy increase could play defense even though city shoot the ball and he can put the ball in the hole. And give you twenty a night magic toss. It was a different player because they thought to the equation. And that's how you Zion. Zion puts numbers up and he's dominant and nobody's quite any of that easing. The game is different than Lebron gain. And he's he's showtime too and he has room for up there's upside because he hasn't really shot a three now the data bus. That was Jerry Buss who drafted magic and by the way magic as a rookie was better than both. These guys jumped senator in game six and gave the sixers forty s and one the chip as let our guest get in here too. Well I I will say it is. Listen Bra Rookie. Bra Braun is my brother. We came in the same time he won rookie of the year. He averaged twenty five and five. He was phenomenal. And I'm not taking anything away from Bronx Zion to me has impressed me. He's lived up to the height in these twelve games that he's played in right. Now we're sitting up you're talking about Zion. But in my opinion if he would've started the season if he would have been healthy this whole season we'd been talking about Zion Williamson in the All Star game. There's no doubt my mind that this kid would have made the All Star game in his rookie youth like he's box office and he's dead. Good some opinion when you look at him the game look easy to him like he's GonNa Variety of ways you know like post moves alleyoop. Dogs RUN IN THE FLOOR. And you know what else impresses me about? Zion is you. Don't find superstars a well. He's a superstar. You don't find guys like Zion on that has a high motor he leaves the NBA and like going for loose balls. Lie recovering loose balls. He's at the top of the list. He's number one. He has. How mode on offense at Chris? You gotTA offense. Actually you're right it was. It was Dr bus absolutely sit by the way not only the second effort on offensive rebounds but sometimes the other dude just takes it out of his hand like taking candy from a baby. I mean he is a monster among men to see Lebron twice this week because they play tonight and again Sunday on. Espn go ahead is different. There's different the point is there's different ways to skin a cat moncrieff. I brought up the Moncrieff Magic Johnson element because they're both effective ball players at the time but magic Johnston a different element. Zion brings a different element. Lebron all I'm saying is that it's a pens on how you look at it. I look at Zion as a dominant figure. I look at Magic Johnson as all Lebron James's awarded a multitude of things that he's able to do. Well that's great but we do agree though Stephen as mid Lebron is one of one and Zion is one of one right. Sure but it's about France of Reference Am. I would be thanks so much for being here. Small sample size. Twelve Games Tommy Brady. We're headed Brady's future continues to be a hot topic during this. Nfl offseason whether the Future Hall of Famer Decides to return to New England or elsewhere has been on everyone's mind including NFL insider. Jeff Darlington appeared on Adam. Schefters podcast for the very interesting possibility. That's enough fell on the raiders. Right now at the front runner for convert. Tennessee has one of the bright spots. We when you look at what Tom Brady looking for. Engaging whether it is the team itself in what they possess personnel where is whether it is the ability to potentially collaborate with the head coach And have some say Gee Planning and personnel. I quite frankly think the Tennessee. Titans a lot of sense. Tom Brady Jeff with an interesting possibility there Emmanuel Acho in the building. Good to see you. You've been saying this for months. You thought this should be the move for Brady. Why do you think the titans are the best? Well I think that number one even though you've got lows of cap space you gotta use some stuff on carry. That's the person that you've got to prioritize. You know taking care of in the future Ryan Tannehill completed. Seventy percent of his passes had twenty two touchdowns six interceptions last season but again they don't know if that is a place he may elect to stay off. They'll be able to work out a long term deal. Brady is short term. Brady has a relationship with his former teammate. Mike Gabel who's the head coach of the Tennessee? Titans AJ Brown is a stud receiver. Brady hasn't had that in a while. Corey Davis is not bad as well. And so when you look at it from that perspective along with Derrick Henry and you're going going to be running the football remember Derrick. Henry ran the football three hundred three times last year. Rush fifteen hundred and forty yards averaged over five yards a carry. You gotta give respect with do in that regard but that's stuff that's GonNa take the pressure off of them. Meanwhile the defense can get some things done and that could take a lot of pressure off of this. Well if I'm Brady what I do. Is I use that as pressure points to make sure that the New England patriots are going to get some players around him as opposed to throwing everything on his shoulders and then throwing him to the wolves with a bunch of no names. Still have to learn how to play the game of football in the case of the Oakland Raiders. I think that's a viable option. If you're brady and you want the pressure taken off because obviously Josh Jacobs Jon. Gruden loves running the football more than throwing it and I think a lot of people still have questions and trepidation about Derek Carr. Even though I still believe that he could get some things done in the end though. I do think that if you really look at it and if there's any truth because I don't know whether there is a not but if there's any truth to all of the speculation or the noise about Brady's relationship with Bella check being suspect that I think at this stage and point in the career of Tom Brady. It would behoove him to go to a place where he no. He will be valued and protected and cared for the way that his former teammate and friend. Mike is Credited Tennessee Titans would do for him credit. Where it's due. Stephen was calling this because of rebel months ago. Saying it's the best place for Brady Stephen a now other people are feeling the same way maybe Brady to. I don't think it's the best place for Brady first of all when you talk about. He shouldn't go someplace because they're running the ball. He better go someplace where they run. The ball has four. Tom Brady not say that he. He shook into the Oakland. Because Jon Gruden likes to run more than path. Pardon me yes. Pardon Me Okay. That makes that makes sense to me. Let's look at the. Let's look at the Tennessee. Titans first of all forget about brand names in the NFL. It's very dangerous. Even quarterbacks you trust the reason someone like Adrian Peterson who could still play a little. Nothing like he wants was still gets. Headlines is because it's Adrian Peterson but in terms of the actual production there. Lots of running backs better. After a certain point so forget about brand names seven years ago five years ago. If you said Tom Brady or Ryan Tannehill. It's a punchline. Of course Tom Brady last year. Ryan Tannehill is better than Tom Brady. Well it's because he had this. He had that he was better than Tom Brady last year. And he's younger in sending inbreeding older improbably descending. So you know even farther than he's already descended so I I think you're trading down if you if you don't sign tannehill and instead Steinbrenner that's one.

"A place to play on earth the greatest arena in the world. My point of view. SWAZIS WANNA go get psyched up to go to Madison Square Garden and you add this iconic franchises. I think if we get those things right but gardens no issues. We get the Knicks right. We plays wanting to come in. I think all of those other things. Ah We talked about whether it be Steinbrenner Jerry Jones when you start winning you start putting that product on the court. Those things stolen uh-huh so some of the frustrations have nothing to do with Dolan. In your opinion I think I think fans need somebody to point. Let me say this. Let me let me move this forward. First of all of us understand something here. You got three sides when you talk about a basketball franchise you've got operations size operations President Your Gm you got your coaching. And of course you've got the business side and if they're all aligned of one like mind one voice. You really really don't have any problems. That's why you don't have problems in Miami. For example samples Pat Riley. One could argue was still here and it never left the facts to depart from the Knicks to go to Miami. We might be saying what we've been saying about the New York Knicks for the Benepe. Definitely what a last second. It's not just about winning Ben. It's about the voices about things being alive. Really where you come Steve. where I think it's important wouldn't that you really highlight for everybody? Would you are about. Is that Bob Dole and bringing you on board Max is point is that nobody's GonNa believe in Dolan if his name is attached to it and if this image is imagery is attachment. Nobody's GonNa believe him but if as you it might are being entirely different ballgame altogether so when we when we're sitting up here with Steve Stoute. Here's the question. It's one thing to be about brandon. Whatever what kind of voice voice you're going to have what kind of influence you expect that? Because we can't confirm Leon roles in we understand. We understand that. That's not the answer but it is for you to answer. Hey what kind of role you go play. How what are we going to see from you when it comes to the New York Knicks winning aggressive attitude going after the best representing exactly what a winning attitude and a winning culture needs needs to have that means plays plays? That means color smells coaching everybody. Yeah we play Tom. Payment of team every game. Post game everybody the way you look on the way out the way you feel when you walk in the mayor for the next. You'd say that right. So am I talking into the man for the new guy on that. Listen I'm part of a team and that's GONNA be part of a team but I got a loud voice got as part of a team of basketball particularly the NBA. Is If you just clear the decks you have no salary issues bad contracts and young players. You can't get a single superstar to change an entire way. A team is perceived right on so I don't think it's a bad idea to target the the Greek freak or someone like that in free agency and save the world is yours. You can take your yet a player like that right on the other hand. The Knicks have tried that strategy. Before your and have struck out so much what they wind up with his just clear decks right. So how do you when they tried it before. Lebron Lebron and Wade during the core Melo Hello Carmelo was traded the whole team for Carmelo. That's exactly what you just said. You said we focus on one guy right but but you have to focus on the guy who's actually actually an MVP caliber player. Not just everybody thought at that time. Camello was you didn't think it wasn't. I was right if everyone thought that they were wrong. But the point and he's a great player. There's a Lebron criminal guys say something Dhanapala the Carmelo. I thought that I thought that when they made the Carmella move it was aligned with exactly everything. You've said focusing on a superstar athlete. Oh Hey didn't just sign them. They traded the whole team for him. And then when Donnie Walsh was trying to play hard ball Dolan Steph. There's like no just give them everything they want. Come on the point that was Dolan messing that up but the point still is good. You believe rumors affects you. Tell me if that's not true. You believe me it. Okay so okay but the the point is I think that your strategy is a good one. Let's clear the decks and try and get prime-time time superstars to come and take the money you can have you on the other hand that has to be on simultaneous tracks with drafting in development. What kind of influence do you have on that side of on the on the personnel side? We we're bringing in a president. Obviously we're looking quickly to get a president in to help reshape with that coaching team and the development team for Friday fleets. I am working with Dolan and working with the organization. Help Nope as we pick that as we pick that leader helping support that leader whatever he needs to help bring the best teams that he can't to New York like. That's that's my role. I don't WANNA I don't WanNa sit here but the reason I'm interrupted his. This is somebody else that was in the business world that the side of the the president of basketball operations now obviously. That's not the role you're playing but I'm thinking about Irvin Magic Johnson and how one there were various as people were arguing. He had to divest is interesting. You know this is a fulltime job. That's not what you're saying. He is so considering. I want you to highlight us. The multitude the two things that you're going to be into it whether or not that's going to compromise you in any way and I'm talking about time. The energy needed to help reveal okay. So first and foremost I'm in the entertainment business right. I'm in the media entertainment business. I work with advertisers. I work with great artists. That's what I like to do and I've always found working with a newborn with the Jay Z.. A. Great Artists. Or you're working with star like Lebron James. It's very similar. In what keeps their attention. Keeps them focused and attracts them to whatever situation you want to bring them to and like they WANNA be around successful people. They want to be around smart aggressive successful people who have have very rational ideas to keep moving forward. And that's the kind of spirit that I want to bring to this team and if I can play a role in getting that done whether whether it be the entertainment like I said during a game or a play that we want to go after or a coach that we wanna go out to whatever it may be I wanna be able to the play and I have the liberty to play a role in getting that. Does that does make a difference. That's up Donnie. Walsh was an excellent GM. I thought Dolan cut his legs out in the Carmelo. The abuts during the decision with Lebron the Knicks contingent that went in was never gonNA compete with Pat Riley Pat Riley. What he was selling was just going to be different? I don't understand the decision was made but but when you saw the knicks. So you're saying you have to bring a big time. What feel to the next when you're going after these players I think I think they need to know that we're real and believe not just snow? Believe you come to New York and New York sells itself but like like am I going to a place where I believe. The dedication to winning and being great is a part of the culture there and I think that's a role because of the success says I've had the other things that I've done at a fundamental belief and I'm bringing at fundamental beliefs to that management used Mark Jackson as an example. But I'm I'm not asking you to go there. I just want you to hear what my thoughts are. I love somebody like that. I'm glad you do. My thing is because of the more the state of affairs that has existed with the New York Knicks for the last twenty years or so close to the last twenty years. I think that they need a voice. Attached to their basketball ascot ball franchise meaning somebody that the media sees all the time that the media communicates with all the time. Not think that's incredibly important. You can't just look for Ah College it has to be somebody that can galvanize New York. What do you say.

Vail Dot com so hopefully a broken one point zero was actually conducted twenty thirteen that's Sean Mirani he's a security analyst at independent security evaluators the research were discussing today is titled So Hopelessly Broken Two Point Zero and we looked at a few of the same devices that this research initiative covered a smaller selection and we Downton published I believe fifty two vulnerabilities across those devices many of which allowed remote compromise of devices now these were all small office Home Office embedded devices such as routers network attached storage devices or NASA's and we kind of picked up where we left off in two thousand thirteen in two thousand eighteen the opposite broken two point Oh and this time around we broadened our scope to more devices and what we found is that a lot of the security control it manufacturers had been implementing in the five years between those two research initiatives were not sufficient to prevent remote compromise into similar manner than was on twenty thirteen well before we dig into the most recent research to continue with the background from what you discovered in two thousand thirteen the initial effort there was to look into these IOT devices this and see where the vulnerabilities might be yes that's correct and as you say you discovered fifty two cvs's back then yes so based on that you decided it was time for a refresh was the methodology as you approach this round of research there were a couple of phases we had to determine which devices to look at I in host and we went with popular consumer grades devices that people were actually using end would probably care about there were vulnerabilities so once we acquire those devices us our methodology behind with scanning looking for network services that were running on them and mapping out the exposed attack surface within the web application because most of the on feature administrative web applications by default and so that goes hand in hand with looking at the firmware because most of these device manufacturers their firmware publicly available either on their websites or through some other means you can essentially download the firmware extracted and look at the entire files system that's going to be loaded onto the device and that includes a programs they're going to be Ryan so that's those sort of reconnaissance information gathering scanning phase after that we did handle on testing that involves manually poking at the web applications and network services that were exposed by default in order to identify any weaknesses any Angela signs of our abilities that we could go back to and right up and disclose let's go through a few of these devices together and sort of walk me through what you discovered and in how you went about discovering and also what the implications are are there any of the devices that stand out to you that you want to start with among these different devices we found abilities across each one of them some vulnerability classes were more common than others and in particular I would like to talk about the terror master to four twenty network match device does that one had quite a few vulnerabilities that we identified so what's interesting about the master device their use of encryption to obvious gates the HP files were stored file system though the web application makes use a PHP for server side dynamically generating pages for handling requests on the back end and so in order to you hinder reverse engineering attempts what's termites are done is encrypt each individual. PHP file with a static key and an IV balls Zeros once we figure that out by looking at the firmware and identifying the script where all that encryption and decryption processes occurred we decrypted the PHP files themselves and we're able to identify vulnerabilities within those scripts that led us to quite a few findings including command injection bypasses cross obtain cross site request forgery. I believe very common web application vulnerabilities yeah so I'm a couple of questions first of all what is the Tara master device what what is it built to do it's a network attached storage device so allows users to manage files from it has additional applications for accessing those files photo applications it also features a Web hey sean where you could minister the device so what you discovered then again for my understanding is that with the encryption they were doing on these files they had basically coded the key in the firmware is that right exactly not that hard for you to reverse engineer it now once we figured out that he was fairly trivial to get the command go back and access all those texts interesting and so that uncovered arrange vulnerabilities yes let's look at some of the other devices what other ones stood out to ACIS RTD DASH AC thirty two hundred was a Soho router that was particularly interesting because it was the only router it had a buffer overflow class owner ability that we discovered so this was an authenticated buffer overflow which means you had to have a valid log in passwords in order to explain however with authentication bypasses and we've seen that many of these devices have ways to circumvent authorization authentication this would be a remotely exploitable remote execution attack now were there any devices that came up particularly well tested out is not having very many vulnerabilities of aw we found vulnerabilities all the devices the only one that we were not able to gain remote code execution on in the time that we had was this analogy Nasr so we did find fewer high severity security vulnerabilities snoddy Ds to Jay so when you compare results that you got back in two thousand thirteen with what you found this round explain to me what the differences were have how far have we come. I would say we I have not come very far at all while these manufacturers have made attempts to implement security controls that not only make it harder to reverse engineer that devices but in some cases are actual legitimate attempts to protect against smaller ability classes we were still able to exploit remotely most of the device twelve hundred thirteen and get route shells on that so I would say that the progress of these manufacturers have made is insufficient is it the same sorts of things that you discovered back in twenty thirteen or have those things been addressed in there are new ways that you can come at these devices it's essentially the same vulnerability his command injection is very widespread among these where are they coming up short overall would end. Do you have any insights onto why they may not be doing a better job what's keeping them from doing a better job I don't know specifically what's giving them from doing a better job or and whether or not in fact they are now taking steps after the fact there are publication to improve security posture but I think it's a matter of incentives until the companies are incentivized to improve security it's always going to on the back burner for them it's not going to be a priority now you all went through the responsible disclosure process and you got different responses from different companies sued or some of the highlights of what you went through with that part of the process for the most part the responsible disclosure process went smoothly when we reported vulnerabilities most of the any factors we talked to would reply in a reasonable amount of time and they would acknowledged vulnerability reports and they would fix them and in some cases they even ask the pictures we had some communication problems with which led to some prolonged difficulties for us in the disclosure process notably awesome was next year when we reported these vulnerability snack year so they have a bug bounty program via bug crowd when we initially reported the vulnerabilities it took them several months it's I believe five months for them to even acknowledge and get.

Lakers GM Rob Pelinka denies he 'betrayed' Magic Johnson

"Rob Pelinka, the general manager, from the Los Angeles Lakers excoriated on I take this morning. Accused of being a back step someone who betrayed Magic Johnson accused of this by Irvin. Magic Johnson that a press conference today introduce the Frank Vogel is do head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, and obviously Ropley lick it gets scape this question. So he was asked about Magic Johnson's words. He was his response. I think the most important thing for me is the two years of getting to work side by side with urban are some of the greatest memories. I have in sports and work. He's an unbelievable person to work with he fills the room with joy and vision. And truly. It's, it's, it's saddening disheartening to think he believes things that are misperception I think all of us in life, probably have been through things where maybe there's third party whispers or he said, she said things that aren't true. And I have talked him several times since he decided to step away. We've had many joyful conversations. In fact, two days ago, we were reliving the combine and the fourth pick. And talking about the great future that this franchise has. So these things are surprising to hear and disheartening, but I look forward the opportunity to talk with him, and sit down with him, and work through them, just like in any relationship because they're just simply not true. I stand beside him. I stand with him as a colleague as a partner. I've always supported everything. He's done and we'll continue to. And I think that's the best way to address that I think, you know, I guess I inform us. We do want today to be about coach Vogel. But I think, again, my job is not worry about what other people may think or say about me as a person, my job is to do the work on what's best for this franchise and that's where my focus is. I think we all know in sports that when you're winning, great things are said when a team loses the naysayers and the neck negativity comes out. That's just a nature of this business. And right now we're coming off a season where we lost. So I really. Again, we're not going to be at caught up in the poll of public opinion or or media polls. But really just keep our head focused on doing good work getting to a place where we win. And that's the most important thing I am torn I am torn by what I just heard rob Pelinka say on one hand, I want to applaud. The Lakers general manager. He showed up at the press conference. He knew that the questions we're going to show up about what Magic Johnson had to say. He's denied that there's any truth to what Magic Johnson had to say. He spoke about Magic Johnson. Respectfully, he says that he hopes to sit down with magic and have a conversation about everything that transpired in the near future. And he said he's not going to get caught up in speculation. That part is true. Rob Pelinka put forth all the resonant denials. And in fairness to rob Pelinka as I've stated on many cases, never done anything wrong to me, this was Magic Johnson's take on it. And so we don't know what's factually. Correct. Or incorrect. We just officially know what Magic Johnson's attor of things, which is what I've been telling alpha months. That's number one. But number two, you know, John look at me when I say this John, no rob -lica- has me thinking about. O J Simpson. That's right. I said it and you know what I'm thinking about OJ when I think about rob Pelinka. Was that a strong denial was that vehement enough? Was that, like, was that a hell? No. This is not true kinda denial. You know what I'm saying? Just me just me ladies asking a skit.

"They're just come a and Klay. Why don't you come to? Hey, cairo. Linda's every by don't talk to magic is capable of maintaining the type of silence that would be required to be the shadow GM at some point. He's going to tweet about how much he enjoys being the shadow GM like he's actually going to tweet that out at Irvin. Magic johnson. I love being the Lakers shadow GM as he's been seen like helping quiet Leonard with post moves. He doesn't have the discipline to be the shadow GM. I listen to Caspian, Los Angeles. The question like, let's let's entertain this for second because I love conspiracy as do I. There. If there is a shadow consultant. Who is like what's your best guess on who is deep throat? That's really what we're talking about. Right. Correct. I think messiah Jerry fly with Masai fly with missile-like that. Well, if the side jury, then we're not getting here for walk because Toronto's going into the next round. Okay. To me. It's gotta be somebody who's got a little bit of recklessness to them. Because what the Lakers would essentially be doing if this shadow GM thing was actually a real thing is they are walking right up to the line of if not flat out tampering. You cannot help it you. There is no tampering rule. If you have permission. But why haven't they let it be known that they've gotten permission, particularly if you're the Lakers. Okay. And you've already been through this a bunch diet. Now, this is what I wanted to get to earlier that we never got back to. Think about how much has come out of the Lakers since magic resigned. Okay. Since he did the impromptu hallway press conference in both you and I were there. I was right next to you. Okay. So. Don't you find it odd? That rob Pelinka has said a man who quotes Socrates had said, nothing Jeanie Buss one of the most outgoing talkative. Nice women. I know has done nothing. Not even a podcast. All right. When the Lakers issued a statement last night about the Luke Walton lawsuit. It's the first thing to come out of the Laker building since magic true left. Drew, Andy they've gone dark. They've gone as they say in the submarine business. They've gone, quiet. Yes. Okay. They if they have permission. They're not saying because they're not saying anything. I why why hasn't Amy lavar ball isn't talking. The Lakers have muzzled everything they have gone completely quiet, but this day aren't talking. So that makes. Mason's stupid theory. That Bob Myers could be on the on the hook. And with his whole conspiracy theory that Kirk lake is going to be the worst GM because the Lakers are saying nothing to say it's Bob Myers for the sake of this argument in. Exactly. What's in it for the warriors? Not to let it be known that the permissions been given. Because the Lakers ask them not to. Why would they say? Yes, why would you? Why would you help the Lakers in this because sly with the warriors went that distraction whether trying to win a title, it's I mean, if this is actually happen. You don't think it's going to get out that by I don't think it's happened. But that's my point. I'm playing the role of right man in tonight's performance. The role of Steve Mason, we'll be played by John Ireland. Yes, apparently, you've gone method. You know, in terms of the way Mason, sometimes comes up with his logic in the systems that goes with that. There is no way to keep something like this quiet, which would mean, they have not gotten the permission. I and this is by the way, we're the five percent of me believes five percent of he believes this is what's going on the doing the surreptitiously because it would be exceptionally on brand for the Lakers to get in trouble for tampering while replacing Magic Johnson who became the face of tampering. Like, it would be very on brand move in terms of what's going on Laker lately with the Lakers in Tampa. I that's why I do not think there is a shadow consultant. I agree..

"From ten AM to twelve noon eastern standard time as being out in LA for this week, we were blessed with the presence of Irvin Magic Johnson coming on the show today. And of course the great Doc Rivers head coach for the Los Angeles Clippers who obviously planning to make their noise. They've got a nice young squall which Alexander everybody's been raving about him really anxious to watch him about ten or eleven points last night, watching him grow. Let's see how he develops along the way and pay attention to that. But with LeBron James opening of the season, the night against Portland trailblazers Damian Lillard CJ McCollum not not to mention the home openness Saturday night against the Houston Rockets will also play the clippers on Sunday. I had to have Magic Johnson in studio, and he was caught enough to take time out of his busy schedule to come and see his boys little brother. That would be me to come on. I take today. We were talking about a couple of things, and I asked him about these Lakers and him Magic Johnson himself being in the position and putting the Lakers in the position he has now put them in where they're basically a significant part of the epicenter of basketball in this day and age listening to Magic Johnson comment about all of that right now. I got a great Boston Jimmy bus, right? And she has allowed me would rob Pelinka to, you know, really come up with a plan and a strategy to get the Lakers back to being relevant, but also back in the playoffs. And hopefully when in championships again, but you need, you need a cornerstone, you need a superstar, you need. And we ended up getting the greatest player in the world and LeBron James to come. But also to we had young pieces that. Were attractive because we hit what I feel was a home run in our first draft and so- Lonzo ball. I think he's going to be outstanding. This season. The Brown has helped his mindset and Rondo has helped him out a lot. And then I think call Kouzmin had a great rookie season. And I think he is going to step up and have even a better season this season. And then I think Josh heart people don't understand the toughness degree in this show. But also he's a winner, Villanova, he right. They write raves about him ago. They about for years. So we have the right combination of young guy with Casey p, but the I think the star in the making in LeBron is really going to help them is Brandon Ingram. He he's big time and he's has the length. He has a size. He has the basketball IQ. So we are really happy. DeVille McGee closes down the middle. We didn't. We didn't have a shot blocker, so we're excited and you can see by there's no tickets everybody's trying to get in here. Cedric just he wasn't lime either. He can't get in more right because it's really going to be outstanding starting tonight in Portland, and then the first home game against Houston on Saturday. I do not like disagreeing with my brother, Magic Johnson, but I will tell you this is much as I like Brandon Ingram to me, the secondary stall on the Lakers. This call coups m-a-l Macau coups Magai I like Brandon Ingram. I really do, but unless he gets John shot like Kevin Durant, that's not how I feel about cow coups, but is that do what I see? Brandon Ingram is a really good player when I see in called Kuda. As a guy that wants it, he wants to be a star and you could tell and OPA the way I'm not sleeping on Josh Hart. I've been known about Josh Hoffer years because I'm pretty tight with my man j right at Villanova. Probably the greatest coach college basketball right now we can talk Mike sheltie all we want to skews me. Look at them national championships, Jay. Wright is delivered. Somebody better pay attention. Jay. Wright is big Tom, and he's been raving about Josh heart for a long time. And I've watched Joshua, particularly in summer league as well as this brother can play. Cretaceous caldwell-pope can play by the way they shoot the ball better than Rondo n. Lonzo. So look for them to see some time. I'm just saying, I'm just saying I like Brandon Ingram. I really do. But Macau whose Magai I just I am. They get a Magic Johnson coming on. I take and Doc Rivers, Bata way. Really appreciate that. Love y'all. Thank y'all so much..

"He's going to go into. Negotiating room against bay weather and like, I'm the eight, listen, I'm gonna make demands that you know may whether ain't going back from that and that's where your problem lies. Right. Well, I appreciate you, love you. Really appreciate it, man, love you back, man. Let's go to Albert. You live with Stephen eight. What's up. Stephen eight quick question for you, sir. So we know that quite lettered and Jimmy Butler supposedly wanna play for the clippers in LA, not necessarily, but go ahead. But what if Katie ops ups out at the end of the season, he's expect that he will opt out at the end of the year and joins the clippers to challenge the Brown for LA. Well, you could say that, but we're also hearing k d and the Knicks. Okay. And so so. So in other words, I don't think k. d. minds battling LeBron on the court, but I don't know if he wants any piece of LeBron in terms of popularity. Like if you plan for the clippers that you fight with LeBron for LA and Obama the way LeBron has the backdrop of the l. a. brand accentuated by Irvin Magic Johnson running basketball operations, which is far more profound than anything. The clippers could throw at you, even though they've got Doc Rivers and Jerry West. So I don't know if that's what Kevin Durant wants a matter of fact, I willing to bet my money that Kevin Durant with elect to go and play with LeBron and LA before playing with the clippers. Now he might choose the Knicks over the Lakers, but I don't think he would choose the clippers over the Lakers. Gotcha. Got you, brother. All right. Appreciate the call, man. Thank you. Daryl, you lava? Stephen, what's up. Are you doing Steve remain? I'm gonna shout out to your ram and with the ceiling Rams they harm come this week. My daughter go there. "That's a not a and last not last. At least at me, say this. I said this yesterday, I'm gonna say it again. Fellas. Let me be very, very clear to you. If you go out there and take advantage of this deal, that one eight hundred flowers is offering you. You know what you're basically saying. You're woman worth six dollars. Is what you're saying, your lady yawn. You're so. The one that keeps you smelling that touches your heart that takes care of you that feeds you literally figuratively, and otherwise she worked there six dollars now you might say Stephen crazy, miss, Stephen crazy. No, no, no, no, no, I'm not crazy. You know why? Because it doesn't matter that it's not true. It's how she feels you heard that before. How I feel. So I feel. Now you want to put yourself in every digman be my guess. I know I ain't gonna make that mistake. I tell you that. By the way, it's time for straight. Talk brought to you by straight talk wireless, best phones, best networks, no conscience. Let's get right to it. The New York Knicks. Undefeated. Did you hit a news? Did you hit a news? The New York Knicks are undefeated. I figure I gotta get some New York news up in there for this moment because my God, we all know that about a week and I ain't gonna be able to say that about the Knicks. I gotta take advantage of this moment while let's present it to me Neil Akina once again was impotent offensively. I don't want to say why he started David deal. I don't understand why he starting, but I do know that Tim Hardaway dropped thirty one last night. He looked good. In his Cantu had a respectable game with sixteen in eleven. Alonzo tria had the dunk on a night, but he gave you fifteen points off the bench. New York Knicks. They're look bad. Kevin knocks your first round, pick. Ninth over all four of sixty for the field. Twenty five percent. None impressive at all, but hell he's a rookie. He'll get it together. We know this. We'll see how he develops as time goes on. Obviously, I just wanted to get that out the way because the real news is that LeBrun James. Begins his career officially. As a Los Angeles Laker tonight game one of the regular season for the Los Angeles Lakers in Portland. I had the pleasure of having Irvin Magic Johnson, the great Irvin Magic Johnson, the magic man, all my television show this morning. I take on ESPN and Irvin Magic Johnson in the house. And obviously he's not going to go to Poland because he wants to show to be about LeBron and the play is not himself. He'll be at the staple center Saturday night though when they go up against the Houston Rockets and speaking of the Houston Rockets. Wow. Look, I'm going to say this. I love James harden. I'm not worried about what happened last night with him. I love James, harden. I love him as a person. I love him as a star in this league as the reigning league MVP, which he so richly deserved love, James harden. Love c. p. three, I think as a quit essential natural pure point guard, I think c. p. three is the greatest point guard of his generation. Pure point guard not the greatest shoot in the world like Steph, curry, not the most point guard in NBA history, like Russell Westbrook. I'm just talking about being an orchestrated, a general running show doing the kind of things that c. p. three has shown to do. I am lead. Y'all know right now. That CPI three is the greatest pure point. God of this generation. And I say all of that to say y'all that it don't mean a damn thing based on what I saw last night, it's just game one of the regular season game one. It's just one game. But one thing is all I needed to see to remind me that this team is going to struggle defensively because last night that was a horror show. That was a pill unadulterated in thing. Horace show..

"ESPN app apple podcast, or wherever you listen to podcasts when Michael Jordan signed his first contract with the bulls, he had a unique clause that allowed him to play basketball anytime anyplace he wanted it was known as his love of the game flaws in his telling that story is it's hardly unique in a game whose history is filled with tales of sacrifice and triumph from some of the most notable personalities of the last two centuries. Today, we will highly these stories through an excerpt from a new book and film series basketball, a love story, an exhaustive effort that chronicles, this devotion, this love of the game stick around after the excerpt for my conversation with ESPN senior writer, Jackie MacMullan. As we talk about what the giants have basketball have taught us about its legacy. Now we present an excerpt from the book basketball love story by Jackie MacMullan Rafe Bothell MU, and Dan cores. Irvin Magic Johnson, three time NBA MVP. I fell in love with basketball watching games with my dad in the living room. I was three or four years old him cheering for the Philadelphia seventy. Sixers will Chamberlain was his favorite player. I would go out and practice Wiltz ugly finger roll and try to be the big Dipper and ever since that moment. I just had to have a ball in my hand. The brawn James four time NBA MVP when I was for five years old, I started playing on a crate. We cut the bottom out, nailed it to the light pole me and my friends, no backboard. So every shot had to go straight in or you didn't make it. And I remember that joy playing on the street cars interrupting our game, the ball, going into the woods, playing basketball. It did something to me. Kobe Bryant, two thousand eight NBA MVP I have a basketball family. My father played in the NBA my uncle plate in the NBA my grandma played. And so when I picked the ball up, I was instantly attracted almost like I was born to play. Kevin Durant, two thousand fourteen NBA MVP. My mom took me to our rec center. I walked into the gym and it was like the gates of heaven opened up. Cheryl Miller two-time, NCWA champion. I just knew there was something bigger and greater out there for me through basketball. It wasn't until nineteen seventy six. I remember seeing highlights of the women's Olympic team. And for the first time I with other female basketball players. Jerry West fourteen time NBA all star. I've always felt that the greatest thing a person can have is an imagination. When I picked that ball up. I was the referee, the timekeeper. If I missed three times in a row, I'd find a way to put a second back on the clock. When I was a little boy, I could use my imagination to be the hero of every game. Shaquille O'Neal two thousand NBA MVP. It was a movie called the fish that saved Pittsburgh. Dr. J. Julius Erving was in the movie, but I didn't know he was a real person. So my father said, come on and we jumped on the train to Madison Square Garden. I'm sitting there like that's the guy from the movie. Then he goes baseline, throws it down. The crowd goes crazy. I look at my dad. I said, that's what I want to be. When I grow up. Charles Barkley nineteen Ninety-three NBA MVP. I was able to make a great life at it, but they're really cool thing about basketball is it kept me out of jail. Adam silver NBA Commissioner. My was in second grade and I'll never forget. I shot the ball and it went in in terms of building character and confidence. The next time I ran up and down the court. I was a different guy. Rebecca Lobo nineteen ninety nine WNBA all-star. "Yes, in our numbers as just like the impact is like a breakout season, you could say Tatum already had his Celtics. Yes. If you listen to my interview at seven thirty here in said about Lonzo tell you another piece of it could be he could break out season for him is he could be on the floor, important minutes, important games xactly that that could be breakouts. Absolutely. Because it feels like Rondos going to be that guy at today's. We sit here what today? September twenty. First. If you had to close your eyes and visualize the five guys on the court at the end of a close game, I don't think lonzo's out there, but maybe by the time we get into September November December, he's worked his way back. Talked to Irvin Magic Johnson in my exclusive interview right here on ESPN seventeen in the morning show. No. He talked about Rondo in one of the things that he did say about Rondo you here at seven thirty which is again a nine thirty in again at nine thirty. Which is interesting because he brought Rondo up. I didn't mention Rondo. He brought Rondo upside. I sit there and I was like, okay, and I just let him go, let him be magic. And it was interesting to hear what he had to say about building a roster, building the team in how they arrive to the point of building this roster and building the team of all the guys. They went out and got this off season. Hey, gopher other than LeBron obviously Rhonda was the best pick on is going to be an important part of what they did this year God. Yeah. I mean, magical, explain it to you at seven thirty and nine thirty. Magic also said yesterday, talking about Luke Walton because one of the questions that we've all been talking about is how quickly does it start? We saw when the Bronwyn to Miami got off to a slow start. I think there are eight nine to the first seventeen games when LeBron came back to Cleveland, it took a minute for that to come together. And of course, in all both of these situations, they ended up going to the finals in both of those years, but he doesn't have those sorts of players here at least we don't think so yet in the question about whether or not the Lakers get off to a slow start, what happens with Luke Walton because we remember LeBron and Erik Spoelstra at the beginning, we're not on the same page. The story goes, it LeBron went to Pat Ryan said, hey, I'm not feeling this and Riley, get back down there. He's the guy. Well, I sensed in just having a a. Conversation with the great one that Luke Walton is. Okay. I since that that he'll be okay because one, he played anyone in that respect level. Even though he was a a contributor voice, Larry start woke row. I I like to use contributor because role player just sounds weak. I certainly didn't mean it like that. No, I know. I'm just saying I contributed contributor. Yeah. Certainly contributor mad it talking to magic. It just felt like LeBron was okay with him as a coach because he respected him as a contributor on championship teams. So that's kind of, you know, the way I felt, you know what key, I don't know what's going on, but the more and more that you think about what's going on with Luke Walton. I just I'm I'm excited about it and I'm excited that magic said what he said about how he doesn't necessarily have to get off to a good start that he's going to be fine one way or the other. Because as I was talking to Luke, we said, don't worry if we get off to a bad start. That's what magic said. We have seen that with LeBron go to Miami..

"So I appreciate all the ocean Agassi talk. Let's get it back to basketball, rob. I grew up in New York City, so I'm very familiar with the man. They call eighth grade land Stevenson, of course. And while everyone out here in LA has LeBron citing they seen him at the country mart. They've seen him at rise nation. They see him on Hollywood reporter what's is LA like, what's he been up to? And what's it been like getting to know him. No magic and our boat basketball historians. And we studied great teams, and we studied the makeup and the character and the complexion of great teams and one of the characteristics and even with, you know, the recent title-winners is you have to have guys with an edge. You've gotta have guys that won't back down from big moments and lances that. I mean, he is just he's been training with Gunnar Peterson and the weight room every day, and his body looks unbelievable. And he is just taking the ball through guys taking it ACA is we were scrimmage and the other day, and we, we played five or six games and everyone looked tired and they, they're like, man, we're, you know, we're done playing and is like what Saupiquet we're just getting started. Come on guy takes his shirt off and he's ready to play ten more games. So he brings that New York swag, that Rucker park, you know, kind of mentality of like, hey, I'm here to play ball, and I'm here to be king of the court and. We love that quality in him talking with Lakers GM rob Pelinka Sodano show any candidates. Keep Ben Lyons, Michael Thompson in for George you. You talk during the press conference about Lonzo and his health, and it's sort of TB d. in terms of his veil ability, how much do you think it could be beneficial for Lonzo to be playing alongside a guy like LeBron who you know is going to end up getting the most attention just to have a little bit of that dial back four Lonzo. Playing with guys like LeBron Rajon Rondo is going to be invaluable for Lonzo we, we had a film session the other day. It was Irvin Magic Johnson, Rajon Rondo and Lonzo ball watching the pelicans Lakers game from last year and narrating it and I'm telling you it was just unbelievable to talk through to hear Rajon how he organizes team and what he did on every single play. And then to have Lonzo sharing that to kind of open up his ability to communicate and then Magic Johnson, the greatest point guard ever play, you know, putting his layer on it. That was incredible. So I think we wanted to bring in mentors for this young core because we want sustained excellence here. We don't wanna just put a team together and hope to win a title for a year. So now we feel like we have the best of both worlds. With championship quality veterans, and then this young competitive corps and it Mary's just so well, crazy as Monday going to be rob Pelinka, how many media credentials have been requested for media day. I just, I just know it's going to be standing room only in this huge building. So hopefully Alison and her team do a great job taking care of that as they always do. Yeah. I mentioned seen LeBron on the cover a high with reporter with the staff and Springhill and uninterrupted, and I thought it was such a cool moment. That dude has, I think, announced three projects since rob called into this radio show, like of all the films and the TV shows in the web series. Is there one that you're just a fan of or most looking forward to seeing yourself?.

"I'm not I at, least I'm not looking for Matt Holliday to go be the everyday left fielder I had somebody texts me earlier today and say how do you. Think Geraldo par feels about being paid. Twelve million dollars in somebody who wasn't even good enough to get a spring training invite I is replacing him in left field my. Answer to that is I'm sure he looks, at his Bank account and is perfectly fine with whatever decision the Rockies wanna make but I also don't think. That Matt holidays your everyday, left fielder I. Am surprised I started today but all we, want Adam Matt holiday Is what we saw from Jason Giambi a. Few years ago. Just be a, guy you can bring off the bench That makes the. Opposing pitcher a little bit uncomfortable that's all we want Mayfield posing patriots have to think a little bit half to. Work a little bit And whether Matt Holliday can still. Hit bombs and drive in runs at the major league, level remains to be seen he at least can put together a professional at bat and, that's what the Rockies need as they bulk up the roster for the Stretch run here as we enter the month of September Something did. Kind of catch my attention a demon register with me why can't the Rockies trade for Daniel Murphy I mean I understand that Matt Holliday was all, was going they already picked. Him up and he was gonna come up But that would have been a nice fat to add in the, fact that he ends up with the cubs. Means that, the Rockies passed on him and didn't put in. A waiver claim which is a little bit interesting to me And we'll see what happens down the stretch if Matt Holliday is more of a contributor than Daniel Murphy, I can't imagine that would be the case I just site yesterday I was like wait you know. What yeah the Rockies could add Daniel Murphy Matt Harvey and Billy. Hamilton for the, rats, were claimed off? Waivers, yesterday too but we don't know Who For either, guy and then there's like a twenty four to forty eight hour thing before we find out who it is except when it's, Bryce and then Irvin Magic Johnson is going around telling everybody that it was the dodgers who claimed him I'd like to give Matt Harvey is shot that's what these what these waiver trades are Just for a month give us this guy for a month and see what, they have I would like to see Matt Harvey. Either pitch out of the Rockies bullpen maybe. Give them Tyler, Anderson spot in the rotation See what you got in him Billy Hamilton is even more intriguing but I would say that the Rockies aren't in a position to really need, Billy Hamilton a hitting center fielder Speed for days but light hitting But the reds are expected to yank Billy Hamilton back because he's. Under control for next year too but we do not know who, their mystery teams are that clean Matt Harvey, and Billy Hamilton But would. It, be that crazy I I don't expect it to be the Rockies because again the Rockies have kind. Of shown that they like staying Pat other than the one move, they, made, for someone oh But, I think it would be an intriguing fit if the Rockies did decide to bring in Matt Harvey for a. Month And make him a part of. The pitching staff certainly Matt Harvey has every, reason to rehabilitate his image and he's, already done a good job in Cincinnati I don't know if he's still a jerk but pitching wise he's been pretty good But for. Now, we'll just settle for the Rockies taking two of three from the Padres and now another massive series. At week's end cardinals coming into town for, three starting tomorrow has huge wildcard implications Two eight six zero zero four six your thoughts on the addition full-fledged, edition the promotion of Matt Holliday the. Rockies series victory over, the San Diego Padres and also Pat bolan. We talked earlier this hour. About Pat bolan clearing the last major hurdle towards. Enshrinement in. Canton welcome your thoughts on that as well coming up. Next. Wheels.

"I, let's talk about high states aren't rival Michigan. Now, Jim harvest chosen his quarterback shape. Patterson, we talked about this little earlier on in the show how much pressure is Harbaugh under now in year four think he's under more media pressure than he is internal pressure at Michigan. The fact of the matter is, is that Michigan is in an exponentially better spot with Jim Harbaugh is their coach than when he was not there football coach. This is a program that has competed at the top into the big ten, even if they haven't won that division and ultimately a conference championship in those years, they were a punt drop punt snap in a poor snap away from essentially being in the playoff, maybe in a couple of those seasons. And that's with some pretty average quarterback play. You go into this season. This is going to be a top five deepens in the country led by Brown, their defensive coordinator. He's got the most talented quarterback. He's had at the college level since Andrew luck and shape. Patterson, the transfer from ole miss. I fully expect Michigan to contend for a playoff spot this season, the narrative that this guy is under performing at mission at Michigan is. Media driven, and it's full those that don't like him. Press this networks that don't like him. Press this. The fact of the matter is he's one of the six or seven best coaches in America. His record proves that out. And this year, this is going to be a very good wolverine steam. All right. Joel, before you leave his last question, one of your pet peeves. Let's talk about playoff expansion. Barry Alvarez says, we got to go to six now. It's not the eight I'd prefer, but it's a step in the right direction, what your response to bury terrible. It's a terrible idea, and I hope it never happened quite frankly, and I fully expect everybody within the sport to argue for more entrance into the college football plan because that means more money for those entrance. Listen, if we care about the sport, if we care about the regular season, if we wanna maintain the reverence of regular season games in particular in the non conference or even in conference play, we need to keep this playoff at one less than there are power conferences. Listen, I could go on a dissertation about this. I've got a whole model that works out much better than your eight teams, but I will tell. This college football has to keep this at four or else we're going to ruin what is the most unique and most important regular season in all of sport. And anyone that argues otherwise is just quite frankly not looking at the facts. Feel very strongly about it. It's a sort of a casual response to HIV after the show Joel berry model. Joel, thank you for joining. LeBron James and the Lakers almost throws much has been made of the players on the team, not named LeBron one former cast. He made said it will be pretty hard for the younger players on this team Channing Frye who won a title with LeBron Cleveland said this. I don't know if they truly understand what it's like to play with him because there is no room for mistakes because in all actuality, he could do it himself. He could lead a team to forty wins by himself. I think for all of them, they're going to have a reality check, not only them, but the people around them. There's going to say not a growing period, but humility artsy star with was Channing Frye right about this about LeBron James. The reason why no, this to be true is just based on my own experience of plane with seven guys in pro football hall of fame and also the athletic career, my brother seeing the players that he played with as a senior. They recruit a. From Chicago by name Isaiah Thomas and spending time in the gym. When I when he was in high school, I was like, man, I'd never seen a basketball player like that. Subsequently go two years for my brother gets drafted by the Lakers. They have a guy named captain Kareem, and they have another guy by the name of Irvin Magic Johnson. So it is a shock even to good accomplished players when you play with the best of the best..

"Oh that's lonzo lonzo ball's dish track on kyle kouzmin now both players have come out and even cao kouzmanis mom i think is come out and said we're not offended by this kind of a joke we're okay with it now big deal no now no harm no foul to take a basketball term well magic johnson irvin magic johnson has not taking kindly to lonzo ball's distract of his own teammate magic johnson told the two guys to knock it off in grow up so lebron has a lot of factors that will play into where he is going to play basketball next year he's not going to a place with drama okay so if lonzo and his father continue to be an issue in los angeles and magic johnson does not do something about a aka trading lonzo ball then there is the sliver of hope that other nba cities have that lebron will not apparently follow his kids out to los angeles because lebron's not gonna put up with the nonsense dying to put up with lavar he's not gonna put up with lonzo pulling out distracts and magic johnson isn't either remember when diangelo russel film nick young talking about cheating on iggy azalea and i feel like super hip hop right now talking about this stuff iggy azalea distracts flow where woke everything win dangelo russell videotape nick young doing that this was before magic came in magic's first order of business was sending dangelo russell to the nets so magic johnson is not someone that likes to put up with this either so in on one sense it's will maybe lebron doesn't want to be part of that mess but at the same time magic is usually pretty proactive when it comes to changing the culture he tried to change the culture in la still going to try to do so in order to lure lebron but lebron is looking for the perfect landing spot and one player dissing his teammate is is not something that lebron wants to put up with so that he doesn't like houston as the city now we gotta find some holes to poke in philadelphia and then we're well on our way to getting lebron to come to denver.
