"Big difference is the takeout the pick five take guts only fifteen percent making it a much better play than a pick for. It's a free square. The problem is it doesn't help you in any way shape or form life is good winds. Everybody's got it if life is good doesn't win you're busted out but indeed it's a pick foreign. You don't need to spend any more money on it okay. So life is good gonna be uber. Tough to beat in the grey to kelso goes. is the fourth race tomorrow at belmont park. We jump all the way to race number ten for the grades three athenian and this one not nearly as cut and dry as what we see in the kelso these are phillies and mirrors set to go a mile and an eighth on the turf person. Two hundred thousand dollars by the way can tell you. They were off the turf. Today at belmont park didn't have bad weather today but they did have some bad weather overnight so gonna have to watch the weather. I don't think they're expecting a lot of bad weather going into the weekend But this turf race will see what the turf condition is for the athenian once again the phillies and mirrors going long. We do have heavy favourite on the morning. Line out one to nine but three to five with number four pocket square. Well it's only a five horsfield and the to chad. Brown runners make a ton of sense. The favourite pocket square in miss horon. The number two course and those are the two favorites in the race. I do prefer the favourite pocket square. I just thought that two races. That horse lost the diana and the justice game against all tika summer romance facing much much better competition got down to a better more appropriate level an absolutely annihilated one hundred thousand dollar optional kramer's last time out at saratoga and that was a race that saw a reasonable but nana fast temple by any stretch of the imagination and pocket. Score was still able to come from behind and score without any sort of difficulty. The other chad brown runner. I think may be pretty good has been in against good. Not great competition has won four races and thirteen career starts. A couple of those came before coming to this country two years ago. But i just haven't seen it against stakes competition yet. So i'm waiting for that. I think those two probably I mean if i were playing a pick five or pick six. i wouldn't go more than two deep. Would you know. And i may not even go to deepen the spot. I think pocket square lays over this field. I mean what you said is right. Those two stakes races were she was in the great ones against altea and some around lancer just better field than what she's going to see today. Yes she dropped all the way down into higher level allowance races to win in her two wins here in the states by the way i don't think it goes without saying that those two wins were with iran ortiz aboard and he sticks aboard the daughter of night of thunder again. Listen this is a great three race. It's not the toughest grade three race we've ever seen. It's really no different. I think than some of the higher level allowance races. She's been winning. Pocket square deserves to be three to five. I don't think we'll get three to five honor. But i think she's another one. That is a free square. If you're playing maybe late pick five the pick six late pick for. I think she's going to be too tough to be pocket square for me in the grade. Three athenian tenth race tomorrow at belmont park mentioned earlier. That tomorrow is the marquee day at parks. There was a time earlier in season.

"I wanna be forward all the time. So i'm looking for jockeys that had that sense in our mind. And i wanna be four because trips me everything to me. So that's why. I played horses that i think we're going to be four. And that's why i respect v. So much because now it's gonna ask doesn't that conflict a little bit with your admiration for iran ortiz. Because he is a guy who doesn't particularly like to be forward. I would say that's my opinion. Do you differ on that. Or is he somebody who's just so good at what he does or able to get past. That help does he. I'm being come on right right. He he's not afford guy but he's so talented just so talented. And you can't dismiss that kind of talent. You just can't no i agree. I think we saw him pay some big crisis towards the end of saratoga in turf routes and it was just unbelievable to me that he would ever go off those kind of prices but it is an interesting conversation. The hat because as much as i appreciate iran what a great writer he when i see him on a speed speed horse in at third sprint. I want no parts of them That is something we hope to add to time form. Us wanted these days jockey like we trainers that are broken down. More specifically than your typical win percentage our ally so hopefully. That's something that's coming soon. I know it's in the works. And i would imagine that would be something you depreciate as well i would love that great but yeah it's been in the works for a while i'm not involved in it. Some other people are cova. D- kinda set us back a little bit as most of the world so But they are coming. I can promise you that that said one more race to cover here on this time for. Us forecast in this one. We're going to go back to one turn. It's a six and a half furlongs..

"Wasn't his fault There was another horse that interfered with him and he ended up finishing third in a blanket. Finish that day only beaten a neck. He was placed second via disqualification so He had a little bit of trouble down the lane. Obviously his good races make him the one to beat love. The fact that pratt is getting aboard is the bigger the bigger the fields in southern california. The more i want flavian on my horses because he seems to be he has that i hate to say it especially being a west coast guy. He has kind of the east coast. Writing mentality you know the same kind of riding style as joel rosario or iran ortiz. Where you know it's saved round. Save ground saved ground look for a seam and go and he seems to be in the right place more often than not so. I agree with you number. One hudson ridge. I think this is very dangerous. He's been in the money for of six times on the turf. Two wins two second place finishes to his credit. And you know what he maybe should have won the last time out if he would have had a cleaner trip. I think he'll love that inside. Post hudson ridge for both dave and myself in the grade. Two del mar derby goes as race. Eleven tomorrow at delmar. We're gonna take another break when we come back. We'll head over to monmouth for their stake. "A grade one race it really is Some of the cream of the crop as far as phillies and mayor's going long distance on the turf. The distance here is a mile and three eighths. It is part of the breeders. Cup challenge series. So it's a win and you're in event which basically means the winner of this race gets all expenses paid and a guaranteed spot. In this year's breeder's cup filly and mare turf to be run at del mar in just a couple of months. All is number. Three warlike goddess and. I i don't know about you dave. This is a filly who just continues to impress me. Every time she goes to the race track. Well there's no question five wins in six races and it seems like each one is better than the last stretching out mile and a half no problem at all easy easy winds now. This is a three turn turf race at saratoga and weird things sometimes happen these races and for warlike goddess. She's going to need some tempo to set her up. Do you see a pay center or two in this race while the funny thing about her is it. Looks like she needs a quick pace to run at but she really doesn't. She does doesn't show any early speed early on and she catches up to the field almost effortlessly by the time they get to the quarter pole and simply put. She goes about two strides. Well let's put it this way. Her strides are about twice as long. It seems as everyone else's so she gathers momentum she catches up to the field easily and by the time they get to the top of the stretch they just cannot on her that last quarter of a mile or just under a quarter of a mile so while her figs may not be dominant over the field. I think she stands out the other one that i would use. Or maybe planned or if you think that or like us can't lose his number one las yara. I'm not sure how she'll do it. A mile and three eighths But she certainly is a classic phillies. She's been running and nothing but great one grade twos for the last few years and running very well against those top class runners. Mile and three eighths is a big question mark though she's bread to handle it but so far she hasn't tried it at least not that i see i like her and i like her a lot running against great one competition the last three times and hitting the board in each of them. I think i'll tika and summer romance. Who beat her. Last time would be significant favorites in this race. I think she gets a ground saving rail trip in this event. And if you go back and watch the diana on july seventeenth. She did not have a good trip. She steadied and then had nowhere to go down the stretch. I like the concept that world. I gotta say can be further back. Lost ignoring gets the early move on the pace setters and maybe goes by hold on. I also think it's worth discussing american bridge who has not been running in the best races in europe running in italy and france. I don't think she's good enough. That being said there have been three grade one turf races at saratoga this summer and all three have been run one by european runners and she gets one of the top. Riders in iran. Ortiz aboard was certainly helps her chances. So dave number one lesson yara. I'm going to wipe the chalk off my face with number three warlike goddess. But i respect number one loss in the ira this saturday in race. Eleven at saratoga. The grade one. Flower bowl stakes. We're gonna take our first break when we come back. We'll take a look at the jockey club gold cup then head out where the turf meets the surf. Out at old del mar. You're listening to the weekend. Stakes preview presented by naira bets beth.

I've got an amazing guess for you this week. He is a stanley cup. Champion and an absolutely incredible horse racing handicapper allege in two different sports a legend who look cancer right in the eye and punched in the face he is of course my man eddie olczyk. This is one of the busiest weeks of the year. For ed so so i was pumped that he was able to carve out some time for us good quality time. I don't just look forward to these conversations. I do cherish them. So let's get right at it episode. One hundred and seventy two of the jim rome. Podcast with eddie olczyk starts right now ed so as commanding time of year or you've got race week derby this feeder of this saturday and you get the nhl playoffs right around the corner. It does not get any better than that so first off. Hyphen won't physically. And how is life overall eddie. Everything is jim. Always great to be pal Everything is good You know feeling good. Hard to believe Coming on my four year anniversary of being diagnosed with stage colon cancer. Back in two thousand seventeen of august and hard to believe. I've been clean and clear. I got a big scam coming up after derby so Looking to be clean and clear on the right side of the side air moving forward but it is a great time of year. Usually tim and we talk there. Were right in the middle of playoffs when the kentucky derby is going on and That's not the case this year and everybody navigated through the pandemic but it's Lot of excitement feeling good and looking forward to get down to louisville here and there should be too great days of racing it with the oaks on friday and of course the derby on saturday. Well it's so you sound great eddie. And it's so good to have you this week to talk about these things. So why don't we jump right into it. The derby draw itself was earlier today. Was there anything in particular that jumped out to you. What is your overall reaction to what happened earlier today. Well look at. The horse highlight ended up. Getting a rail ignored agenda for talks lecture and teresa viola penalized staples and of course. There's a hockey connection know jim with the viola zoning the florida panthers having a hell of the sitting down there with coach q and Down there in sunrise. But they'll look at the the. The starting gates is It's the second year in in Inaction it's all one big gate where the last you know. Hundreds of years it's been you know the auxiliary gate and there's a lot of space is going on so it is a little bit different. It's a little bit more fair for the horn. That's breaking from the rail instead of running straight athlete interrail and have to sit depend on your way through and get all her. It's a little bit more of a clear in clean run. There's there's any jockey in the world right. Now that could get known attend up off the round like let me sort of like to get them out of the gate and position. It's iran ortiz. Right now there is no guys who's writing any better than i. I read ortiz junior. And that's what i'm thinking on. Now it's still a couple of days away jim. We talk worth a lot. See how the traffic is but for me. That's the one thing that caught my attention because the horse and not the dreaded one hall which you know we haven't had a.

"You know how excited i was here. Bobby i get to see raging bull. Install one alexandra in seoul to. She's pregnant by the way. She scratched out of the jaipur. I don't think they gave an official reason. I'll tell you i believe it was because of all the moisture in the ground she's going to stretch out though To a mile she hasn't run a mile in at least two years She has one mile race on the court. She does love belmont pucks. Perfect three for three at belmont including beating the boys in that grade one jaipur last year gets smoking comes in off a gate to wire win the seek again. He's won three times at belmont park. Including the great to hill sprints last fall front run. The fed trust stretches back out another one for chad brown fundraiser. To tell you. Daddy's to bang-up races for tom morley off the claim should be a fun renewal of the poker all eyes on the big horse though reasonable and simply put if raging bull comes to play. Then they're running for second because his good races are better than anyone in this field can handle and one of his good races was last time out in the grade. One maker's mark mile at keeneland Of course that he really loves. He proved that he's still can do it as a six year old. He proved that he can do it. Running without lasix. That was his first. Start without the medication lasix. At least in a long long time and it was it was really as good as any races run. I guess the biggest question. I have for raging bull is. Will he repeat that race now. He ran a big race off the layoff last year in the maker's mark mile Arguably or not. I'm sorry in the shoemaker mile at santa anita and i'm not one hundred percent sure ran as well the rest of the year. He didn't run poorly. That's for sure But that may have been his best so question is will. He won another big race After that big effort and the maker's mark One win one second. One third from four career starts at belmont. he's had excuses in some of the races. One of them you can see on the page. He had the misfortune of running against stablemate bricks and mortar bricks and mortar bricks and mortar back in twenty nineteen going a mile and a quarter and raging bulls. Never never gonna win at a mile and a quarter against bricks and mortar So i think he had a little bit of an excuse that afternoon one this mile though right up his alley there is plenty of speed in the race jet. Smoking is very fast raised. Looks like he's got some speed even front run. The fed figures to be forwardly placed if i rat ortiz can just work at a decent trip on raging bull. He's probably gonna win and he certainly seems to be in the right hands the do that. I want to tell you the other horse. I'm singling raging bull and everything on sunday. I'll tell you the other horse i think. Tell your daddy who's worked out a couple of really good trips going seven mile and then he got a half length. Akasa creed just missed last time to get smokin He's i want him. I liked his mile race last time. I mean i don't think he'd be reading bull but This was has been consistent. It's too stocks for tom. They've clearly been the two best efforts of his life I wanna mess with him a little bit in the exactness. Try and get him. Second kendrick musto on the sidelines. Lewisite is more than capable replacement. I'm gonna play at one eight. I don't play pretty strongly as well. Race number nine on sunday. Great three poker at belmont park down the shore monmouth gray three eaten town for the phillies. And mayor's going around sixteenth. little goes race. Eleven on the father's descartes A field fulfilled them here of twelve somme's multiple stakes winners in here. This is a fun fun race for a grade. Three my friend. It's a fun race in it's race where you're seeing some very talented runners who are going to be ridden by noose. New faces to them For the first time. I'm going to stick with the chad brown born number six. Nee lady i think. She's the most talented in the field. She's also undefeated two for two at monmouth park simply put i think she's been facing strong competition than what she's going to see on sunday. Last time out in the boat game behind harvey's low oil and lamiste i think both of those Phillies would be dominant and heavy favorites in this race She wasn't far behind silver civil union. My sister nat in the flower bowl. back in october so her good races maker the one to beat. I really had a toss up between her and number nine sweet by and by who Very rarely runs a poor race. To be perfectly honest. The writer change on sweet by and by is such a difference that that was the determining factor for me It's not so much. That i'm downplaying. Ruben silveira it's that iran ortiz to most people is a negative writer switch and that was just a tipping point. I would use both of them. Nee lady and sweet by and by in my place. But i'm gonna put me on top of time with his thing. They has to be on. All your tickets dylan davis going in. I made her my top pick but other one from chad counterparty risk. She's run pretty well this year. i don't think she appreciated the given the ground in the of grace last time I think she got a great ride in the hillsborough. I would use her a little bit. I would you speak to me. If some of the crease lamont Diaz riding well at monmouth. I think she'll be okay as well. And i won't be surprised if vigilantes way ran another. Good one it's wide open sweet by by she tied up. She missed a couple of races. During the belmont stakes racing festival the intercontinental in just a game tied up good to see her back in the entry. She always shows up. Like bobby said she really. There's one blemish on her card in the last two years on the turf always shows up with a big effort The rider turns me off though and xanthi from man. Tom walley great claim. She's a multiple stakes winner. Should beat crystal cliff. Vigilantes way last time. I would use her as well. I'm with bobby with lady name. Leanne is i mean. Michele leans best race would bury. These horses She was terrible last time in that jenny wiley though and i worry about the lease being a factor with her she did not run well off the lisa last time. So that's something. I would want to take a look at It'd may speak to me to summer speaking of some of my top To to focus on in race eleven. Great three eaten town up at woodmen. We got to be on sunday and trained robert tiller gonna join the equine form as well. He has the one and only pink. Floyd what a coors pink loaded cease four to five on the morning line to take the cartier for the second consecutive third consecutive year. It looks what a cool horse. He is great three at six furlongs on the all weather just a field of six they actually got five braids brave souls to try the king of woodbine. Well the king one by is coming off a defeat in the kennedy road in his last start that was in november He looks like he's working well for his return. He's a nine year old as you mentioned. And he's a logical one to beat. He's another one getting a different rider this afternoon. He's getting a rider that rides regularly at woodbine but since he rides regularly at woodbine and nowhere else he only has ten ten mounts for the entire twenty twenty one season. And he's going from two of the top yuriko silva and rafael hernandez in his last his most recent jacks to fukumoto hernandez injured. Recently up at would mine I think that if you're going to try to beat pink. Floyd this may be the spot to try to beat them. Horse finished in front of him in the kennedy road is back against him today..

Was there anything in particular that jumped out to you. And what is your overall reaction to what happened earlier today. Well look at. The horse highlight ended up getting a rail in general for talk lecture and teresa viola saint allies staples and of course. There's a hockey connection. As you know jim with viola zoning the florida panthers were having a hell of eating down there with coach q and Down there in sunrise. But they'll look at you know the the the starting gates is It's the second year in in Inaction it's all one big gate where the last you know. We talk a lot and see how the traffic is playing but for me. That's the one thing that caught my attention because the horse that i think not the dreaded one hall which you know we haven't had a winner there you know what eighty ninety years whatever it is but it is we are living through the pandemic. It is a different starting date. So maybe maybe the The stars are aligned for. Finally the one horse to finally had kentucky derby. I know this. I know you like that. Hoist a lot and for todd pletcher. That had to be absolutely gut wrenching to see that. Come up the way it did. It's not impossible. It's not likely we'll see how that plays out essential quality eddie's the morning line favorite a two to one but in your mind is he the one to beat germany. A little concerned with the last race with men winning the bluegrass Over highly motivated for sat around. Now the track the day not day was playing team when it was you know it was a purple lately. You know like once. Got the front and jerry jones. Long way. i'll be honest. I thought that that race took a lot out of essential quality. I like watching horses work. I don't need to do i do. I make decision on a win. That ra's using a horse on. How horse is working going into the race. Probably not but. I just don't know he. I just got the navy regressed. A little bit hits perfect and his career. It's hard to argue wa five for five to champion last year. Is everything that you got. Brad talked to one last year Louisville news on everything is looking for a essential quality but again. I just go off of what i saw. I tells eddie olczyk that. I think he was all out to win. Not last race. Now we saw it lasted. And i was. I was ahead of his along left. This group is run at the travers about six weeks or whatever it was seven weeks prior to the kentucky derby now did a central quality leave his race at keeneland. A couple of weeks ago time will tell but i just a couple of similarities now a great rates. Don't get me wrong. Knows you need a little bit of luck enough. Electing to me. I probably gonna use the central quality but Quite frankly i. I'm not gonna sit down and talk to you. I'm not. I'm not going to the fourth in the super talk fact We're all of a sudden we're out because santa's finishes sunday you can have a pretty salty factor. I'm i'm against the favorite and grumble eddie. I think that's fair. I think if the horse was all out. I think that certainly is fair. Checkout clones jeff. in ciba's is calling for a twenty way. Finish tie in the run for the roses. You heard me the entire field of twenty will cross the finish. Line the exact. Same time you clones. No better do not bet on jeff. "The place that day and weaving in and out and all sorts of that and further back than he wanted to be and somehow got up to dead heat with colonel liam. I still didn't think he got up watching that race. I thought he fell about a half an inch shy but he did get up all things being equal. I thought domestic spending rainy much better race that day. He'll probably be a little bit of a better price than colonel. Liam and you know what. I read ortiz not riding colonel liam tomorrow. I don't know who is but it's not gonna be iran ortiz. I'll put domestic spending on top. Yeah i got domestic spending on top as well The you gotta respect terminally the horse. That i think i want though is underneath. Domestic tomorrow was goof off and because he'll be a little better with the race under his belt off of the layoff from november last night kong. Five and a half months. The google makes another horse. Masterpiece was really good in that allowance. Race that money allowance race last time at keeneland mile and a half was probably too long on the third classic mile. Quarter might be right up his alley race under his belt. See kind of pace scenario. He gets But i like domestic spending as well. I mean if he gets through last time it was funny digital age kind of causal traffic trouble castellanos on digital age kind. A tight attended up a little bit on him. If he gets through there he probably winds and you could say for two or three other times in the race. If domestic spending has a clean the trip he would have got. The money is horse. I've always been high on. I like the rest expanding as well. Use him with gluco. Colonel eum baby a little masterpieces well. Race number ten goes to the great one resorts world casino manhattan. Three hundred three quarters of a million dollars on the line one more break. We'll come back. "Course, Midnight Bourbon Pebble goes pretty special place coming back because extremely special. Curlin's Preakness win here over street sense was exciting is that could get for us? This being our first classic just such a memorable race. And and it appears the horse racing gods are smiling down on Pimlico as they did at Churchill Downs two weeks ago. Because the weather is absolutely beautiful. According W B A. L. Scott Wycoff. He joins us this morning, Scott. Good morning, sir. What's it like out there? Pimlico this morning. Man. I'm telling you, you would think maybe this is a fall football weekend. It is gorgeous. It Z Sonny and 50 degrees right now is things heat up here in old hilltop. What we call the piece of property here were Pimlico is It's gonna eat up to around 70 degrees. So gonna be a fantastic day and like you heard Steve asked. Houston got big smile on his face. And for good reason. He now has the betting favorite in the Preakness. Midnight Bourbon is now the five to betting favorite with Iran. Ortiz in the Settle once we got by the morning line yesterday, and folks started going to the betting window or getting out their phone toe place their bets. A lot of this smart money started moving the way of the five horse been night Bourbon. Very interesting. So, Scott, what is my Madonna spirit? What is Medina spirit down to now? We need a spirit Is that 3 to 1 in concert tour within the spirits stablemate here in the States Spine Ryan this morning is that 4 to 1, the third choice. We're talking with W B A. L. Scott Wycoff there at Pimlico in Baltimore and Scott, of course. Bob Baffert staying home, staying out of the spotlight for the Preakness assistant trainer Jimmy Barnes. Handling the on site training duties. What's it been like around there, especially with the media? It has been really strange. I mean, we thought it was strange last year, just like you guys did last year when there was nobody at the race. Well, it's really strange. When Bob Baffert is not it is great, especially when he's got the two morning line favorites and he's got the Derby winner. So it's been a bizarro world here early in the week. I really feel bad for Jimmy Barnes. Early in the week. You know everyone surrounding him and asking him questions, and he basically went the route of no comment, and then I think he got a little bit of help from some media consultants later on in the week and later on the weekend just started talking about the worst. Uh, in concert tour and how they were doing, how they like the track and was able to answer those questions and talked about things of that sort. And then it went to the 11th hour yesterday. I mean, we were told that it three o'clock yesterday afternoon, we would get the results of Medina spirits, third and final pre race test Well, Three o'clock comes and goes, four o'clock comes and goes. I mean, it's almost time for the black eyed Susan race, which peppered had a billion that also had a pre pre race tested. Well, just before five o'clock, you know, I'm standing literally in front of Medina spirit at the barn with Grooms and the assistant trainer. Well, how do you find out in this world? Well, it comes in a statement and its statement that's tweeted out and emailed out and all that bit and Lo and behold Medina Spirit, the Derby winner successfully passing all three tests cleared to run in the Preakness, as remember the deal that Bob Baffert's lawyers made with the lawyers here. The Maryland Jockey Club who owned the Preakness, was That if any of the tests came back positive that he would have to scratch his horses. Could you imagine if we scratched the Preakness favorite at that time at five o'clock on Monday afternoon, Right? Hey, dog with W B A L. Scott Wycoff there in Baltimore, covering the 146 running of the Preakness today, 6 47. I believe it is post time. Scott. You there on the back side to get a feel You've been circulating with the media. What's the general consensus on the folks when it comes to Bob Baffert, and most of them think he's guilty? Are they just letting the cake bake? And where do we go from here after this race, and after we get, of course, that split sample back. Well, really. It's because when you talk off the record with a lot of folks here don't really tell you what they believe. But on the record Most of it's like, Well, you know, I will just little like that. You know, that's their business, you know, and, well, you know, there are a number of trainers and a number of owners back here that are talking about what everyone is concerned about the integrity of the game, and that's a conversation we're having. And that's a big concern that something like this on such a big stage. Coming off the Kentucky Derby when racing is front and center with a figure like Bob Baffert. I mean, even though you know, outside of Louisville, Kentucky in Baltimore, Maryland. Racing isn't the number one sport in the United States. Right? Five. Bob Baffert has a very high curating, and that's his recognizability in the pop culture in a lot. Ah, lot of people in pop culture know exactly who that white haired guy is in horse racing and have him at the epicenter of Ah thing like this. Really? It's tough for racing to deal with. So like you say, I mean, who knows what's gonna happen? I mean, what if Medina spirit comes out here today and wins the Preakness? So then you're saying Well, you know, it's got a chance to go to Belmont in three weeks for a triple crown for backwards. Triple Crown in the last word on those six years. Then then, a week from now. The test comes back in Kentucky, and he's the championship in Kentucky that Derby wins is taken away. And, you know, then what happens in the Belmont and then and then and then what happens here? If Medina spirit just doesn't show up? People think. There you go. You know, the horse, you know, didn't show up..

"They have no beat all of the horses that wanna be placed are drawn towards the outside with the exception of potentially what i just said if consecrated holiday factor this in. I've are generally have the most feed. Now i ve our with the with the equipment change last time was much more relaxed source that obviously helps quite a bit and it's a big really reason why he's the morning line favorite in this race. What this is going to boil down to pace. It's how hard for onto route pushes factor to get clear of holiday. Or sayas goes on a mission where he feels as if he has to get the lead on halladay and that's going to determine the outcome those who have the most by far. They've both been successful by being aggressively. Ridden being forwardly placed. And you know. There's there's no reason to change what's worked. And so i think factor. This is a list is a little bit faster. I but these are. These are two guys that know not is just one of them was being written by iran ortiz. Or something. and you'd say apple. I rattle just you know. He'll let let floor he'll but size is not going to do that. And i think this is in touch lecturer smart enough to know what works for this source that he needs to be on the lead. So that'll be. What determines it i. I think one of the things i believe about the euro's is that i think has the biggest turn of foot. I think he might be the one. That's that's able to to make up the most ground in the stretch I also think that can egos very very dangerous. So it's a good rate it it. It's very interesting pretty much every perspective. I think that i ve are based on the race. He ran last. Time is deserving favourite. And he's so versatile in that he can beat the close to the pace if they're not really moving much early or take four or five months off it to make that one run so it's a fun mile and And i think we. I mean at the very least. We're gonna get an honest race. Turn to the distaff and not a lot. of of hell bent for the lead types in here. Either monoploy girl is a forwardly. Drafting type lady. kate Probably goes forward. Swiss skydiver likes to be at least position to engage This emergent harvest moon is intriguing from simon callaghan. What what are we. Where's the pace coming from here. Who who wants the lead lady. kate. I guess yeah. I guess they'll probably let lady kate have it. I don't know. I don't know. I mean boy five was kanye mcpeek and i was telling dorado you look look to your right and you come out of the gate if you don't see pants move and you don't see her going go out there and establish it and And then just try and send off montemar girl's best you can. I think it's a. It's a pay scenario that plays into the to the two favorites primarily because each of them wanna be sitting sort of on a on a moderate type of pace. I guess the fly in the ornament is these candy. Because we've seen all these candy very aggressively ridden in the past. So i don't know I i think john sabir also knows it. All handy that her best and she's gonna lead to nearly one the apple blossom where she staved off every competitor and a huge field except for cc. So i'm not going to be shocked if all these candies very aggressively written out of their one of one of the ways that usually juror horse with seconds as you put nobody in front of them early and so i think that might be the thought process. With of course that doesn't work for the worst cash but You know it could work with all these candy. So not going to be shocked if they ride her very aggressively modern. We made out like a bandit being on the far outside. I don't think draw hurts with skydiver. I don't think the case scenario hurts either. One of them you mentioned harvest moon. Who's got some speed. I'm so to see stretching out but the inside post for them were negatives. I was interested in c if she may be could get that outside docking trips she did in the apple block them but i think ultimately pays life. This is gonna come down to the to the two principals on paper and leader be montemar. Girls was Those decisions will Will will decide and we'll discuss later in the week The late double and the turf we've got here we've got you the the international contingent. Everybody has been talking nonstop nick from mid season. Really that that Our domestic turf irs. Were we're going to be at the mercy of whoever came over. And i don't know there's some nice courses in here including last year's runner-up united and channel maker is certainly been on a nice summer. Run into the fall. Arc low righted. The ship with the blinkers added. But i don't know what who who channel maker gonna lead them. United's going to be forward. What do we think. I think something like that. I mean i guess all all year when we were kind of pissing all over the american turf forces a couple of them actually stepped up later in the year and showed that they're really not that bad and then we've also gotten a you know a kind of a modest lot of european horses. Although i will say that turnour magical or not horses that we should be mobile for that matter that we should be terribly dismissive of I think that channel maker in all likelihood will end up on the lead Many franco's.

Dr Post's Rider on Unbridled Win at Gulfstream
"He is yet another late developer who may benefit quite a bit from a delayed and revamped triple Crown Dr Poster respond to urging size all over him with the tax rate top of the lane on the outside attack. But right from between Dr Post Doctor Post now up for the lead attack rated second let there be no doubt doubters best. It's Dr Post Uneven. Money winner that win. At Gulfstream in the ungraded unbridled stakes was the first time Dr Post had run a mile or longer. He'd run into sprints before that winning one this year and finishing fourth in his debut at Belmont Park last July and while his sire quality road one multiple graded stakes at a mile and an eighth doctor posts never wanted longer than seven eighths of a mile. So I'm pretty sure that when trainer Todd pletcher and owner Vincent Viola learned that the Belmont stakes would be shortened from a mile and a half to a mile and an eighth. They were probably not to dismayed. Dr Posts next start might come in the Belmont and Soda Talk About Him to talk about the return of racing in New York and other related topics we welcome in the gate. The man who has the best seat in the House to watch Dr Post his rider the two time defending clips award winning writer Iran Ortiz Junior. Tell us about all that. He overcame in winning that race at Gulfstream. Well he John Hord. I is learning by racist Green Green. Like I'd have to stay on him and but he everything's good in the behin. He wasn't bitching horses. I gotTA using monitor be to keep their then. Golly talk was the intimidate. Then we get through then. What getting now because he was seeing the horse. And what's more comfortable for me to start going because I can ride then. Finally when he gets. Put THE HEAD IN FRONT. You just take off like he got some work. Your go no yet can be a nice sort down the road will. You've said that when he grows up a little mentally it'll help him now. What shows you that. He's not yet mature in his mind. Not You know not Betty Serious on the do can feel it when do right. We'll fill their own horses. Datum care they. They know what they're doing he's Joan hordes talent but he don't know yet what he's doing you know he's looking. He spoke from the hotel sometimes. he running away from from the horse when he go by. Whatever I went through you know you raised it said Anita on Memorial Day you've run at Gulfstream and Churchill and will soon be returning to New York. How difficult is it to go through the testing process at each track to be cleared to come in and race? It better for you know like that's thing. I just really like three or four times. It's not too bad for me and I'm happy because like that. I'm okay to see my family. You know after I check from other also. I'm Don T my baby so I'm glad they do. They do hopefully they keep doing it their way to how challenging has it been to learn the different procedures that each track is taking to make sure that you follow all those safety and health rules. "That this horse Getting beat much but this oxygen follower loves The polly tracking the numbers and then getting big numbers or anything. But she's pretty impressive in both of her races comes from far far off the pace. I wish this would longer for her. She did win both races a mile. That she she looks like she could Stretch out I think she's got a little shove in there at eight to one two. Well Oxfam. Glad you brought up oxygen power. She's a will take charge out of a Sulamani mayor and Apollo. Lobo who I've always. I've always liked. It was a big Pharma Amiga Fan and glad to see Paula. Lobo Kinda getting things Rebooted he was away for a little bit and kind of rebooted his career and That is that that looks like a a a Philly. That'll run as long as they write races. And she might. She might get a little pace the too close into your actually. Yeah we'll we'll be pace and at the no she liked she likes to track. That's the big thing with her. You know she likes it with with the the three favorites in here. You know. You don't know which one's GonNa handle it as well because non been over it so you know I can't I never get. I never get really high on forces that haven't raced over the top. And you know you can lights and horses but I like say I can't get really high on them so I see what they do. He also notably logo sticks with the bug boy and of course it can't it doesn't the break Unless he lost the as he lost the bug. Or You just like you said you can't get an stakes race but I wasn't sure if he'd lost it okay fifty percent. He's a good winter actually. He's at a very good winter. Yeah yeah he has these these. He looks good on Horse Joe Ramos and he looks good. I think I think he'll sit. But you know you can't you got didn't even mentioned Mike Maker Source Cleanup God because you've got Iran Ortiz and I mean it's not the best one of the best in the country right now and This is a horse.

"All right here we go. We're back on racing down today. Episode Number Fifty. We got a lot of stuff to get to today. Three fifty three fifty point preparations on the docket for this week. In one hundred Fifty Kentucky Derby points up for grabs three more horses will be on their way to Churchill. Downs weekend. There's also a bunch of other stakes around the country this weekend most notably the grade. Santa Anita Handicap. So we'll get to all those book. I we gotta get to the action from this past weekend in Saudi Arabia and the conversation is coming up at. I've seen it come up in multiple different areas is about the winner of the Saudi. Maximum Security You know that is probably the most the Kentucky Derby incident and you know. I'M NOT GONNA come on here and you know say that the Saudi Cup has anything to do with the decision that was made at Churchill. Downs or anything like that or argue that the disqualification now because he's one twenty million dollars. Saudi Cup shouldn't happen I I am not gonNA come on here. Make that argument I just off you know really looking at it. It's unfortunate that happened because maximum security is really just such a tough horse. And you know there's not enough good things you can say about maximum security and you know that raise really showed that maximum security is one of the best horses in the world and obviously right now. The leader of the pack in the United States for older horse. Right now and be really cool to see this horse competing for your old year and you know depending on where he goes from here. Obviously you know. They already mentioned that. He's not going to Dubai. But just where MAC security goes from. Here I'm excited to see that. And what he has in store you know. I'm sure Eric will have some of his things. Say about maximum security. But that's something not lost museum. Fortunate -ness of the disqualification at the Kentucky Derby. Because you know this is a really really fantastic horse for sure. I mean he's slowly and steadily starting to shed that tag of being the Horse Sector disqualified from the Kentucky Derby even though it will always remember that way. If you were to continue what you did last weekend easily going to be more remembered as one of the better horses heading into this decade in this early part of the century the obviously he's now ten million dollars in earnings in at this stage career. It's only getting go go higher. It'll be interesting to see where he gets brought back. I met in. Saratoga is kind of the midseason point. Four the connections there But honestly I think he's already cemented. His legacy added great horse. Just you know like cigar did way back when of when he won the inaugural Dubai World Cup. Maximum security is going to be able to say the same thing for the Saudi Cup where he'd be a really good group of Horses. I might add Definitely was not lighten any sense I think every horse for the most part Ranta form in the Saudi Cub ibew. Probably the biggest surprise people contend but definitely not be By a quarter of a lengthy Iran. Huge She's also in so many other horses from the race but maximum security Kind of a rough trip was definitely a target especially for teas on Mutual Gustavo. Louisa has had to get created down the stretch. But you work down in that. Horses has tons and tons of heart. I don't really know I've seen a horse. Who Does Not WanNa let him worse by like maximum security does. It's quite impressive. How this works bears down to every time he races and I just think I I I think we all know. He's in pre twenty twenty if he stays healthy yeah. That was another thing that I didn't quite get that opening. Bid Is the fact that you know. Maximum security did all that won the race while Iran Ortiz was basically writing interference. I made the comment to Eric Baxter. Excuse jokers still out there kind of looked like a NASCAR and now you can say all you want about. How you know. Probably wasn't the best rider. You didn't have good character of Iraqis. I thought it was a good strategy on his part to do what he could to be. Maximum security obviously probably definitely in this country If he would probably would have been disqualified but I thought it was good on his part to do his best to win. Win The race. And try to keep maximum-security away because I don't think I if you run that race normally maximum-security just goes by with the rules over there. They run category One rules which unlike in America the disqualification rules are if you preventing a worse from running their best race. You get disqualified. There is. That's worse when when you run interference or not so if mutual Gustavo Iraqis does dat but the horse wins by Lincoln half. It's not a problem. Give what was within the rules so it was a good ride? Bhai Iran It was definitely a little malicious. I certainly Jason Service not lease with IRA. Teaser was on the first things. He made a comment about after the race. In the in an interview shortly after On national television I might add But at the same time that's I mean the races aren't one you know like a track meet where you can necessarily go between the lane. This horse racing and that kind of stuff can fly to an extent maybe a little over the edge. I think especially when acting security job inside. I really started to hurt an inside but I was happy that I read never intentionally drew contact although he was doing some blocking like you said NASCAR ask He never intended to make contact which I think was probably the safest thing and when he when he knew the horses about to go by he kind of backed off on trying to get through so are running more interference so while maybe was maybe a little militias It definitely was good race riding on his part all right so that. That's it for this stuff with the Saudi Cup Stripping back over Cross sees out before we get to the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks preparations that you want to highlight a Horse Zulu al folk who is turning into his own. You know I will highlight at about this point last year. This is were bricks and more bricks and mortar was not not saying that Zulu Alpha is going to be the next bricks mortar. Or anything like that. But you know he could do similar things to where it's very likely he's going to do similar things to what bricks and mortar didn't very likely that this is probably the top tier force in the United States. This year. You know at this point last year. Bricks and mortar was a great one Winnipeg World Cup turf and and then he had a great to race. I believe it was either at fairgrounds are one of the tracks Louisiana so to this point Zulu Alpha grade one winner Pegasus World Cup turf now. He's agreed to winner The Mac Ramadan down at Gulfstream. This past weekend. I think Zulu Alpha's in for a really strong really really strong two thousand twenty Keep your eye on him. Come for race like the turf classic the Kentucky Derby Undercard. That's where I would him go but not saying Zulu Alpha is an expert in order. But I'm not saying that he isn't either into Rena. Bricks and mortar was able to have consistent success last year is because all the worst is behind him weren't consistent. I mentioned on the show last week. That Group of forces that Zulu Alpa was facing. He actually used to be a part of that group they never were able to consistently put together strong back. That rates it's bricks. Mortar took it to a new level. Easily able to string together back Multiple consecutive good races in a row. And that's what God in his horse of the year title. And if these keep going the weather going is do. The wealth is going to be able to do the same thing last year Even though I was Kinda surprised after neier introduced the Turks Trinity Series that no horse really emerged from that as premier career force and to be chair. I mean we see that with Dirt horses as well on the on the Derby trail. They don't always shape out after the triple crown trail to be good and that kind of creates inconsistencies in the handicapped division like we saw maybe back Towards the end of maybe before the end of two thousand seventeen that you're got stronger as it went on but nevertheless China look into Alpa. Maybe like an expert in order. I wouldn't be surprised because once again the turf division isn't strong and If I'm going to throw one out there vitality is probably the best grass three year old male out there And I know. The connections are keen. Distract him out so he could be wanted content we know. He has loads talent. So at this point Zulu Alpha is primed at least stay home maleter force because so far. There are no challengers within a mile oven.

"And now we're into the mile where again it ended up it. I thought thought this was the funniest Ebb and flow story coming in and out of Breeders Cup which was early on the mile was going to be the Philly in the air and then everybody got all excited about finding alternative runners and then when they're in the stretch you realize oh it's the Philly the mayor thought about all along exactly. Yeah when I when I kept looking at this race but I thought that uh-huh was the most likely winner but when Bolo scratched I keep looking. I kept looking at the race and I said you know what there's almost no early speed and and I'm thinking what was the name of the worst I bet on the Frankie Dettori. It came up in The Hague who became it became a talking horse all week right. Hey Command and and again I knew what I had behind it and it was going to bet what I was going to bet on the turf that I knew that all all day so I knew that that was always going to be there so I said well you know what. Let me take another shot. Try to win it now with this horse 'CAUSE I had enough back all if I didn't win then I go ahead buddy to play with so I had levels From totally to hey demand I bet some exact with Hagen second second behind and another name I can't remember and then I bet command to win again trying to get over a hundred and breaks perfect perfect and all of a sudden wins the Woodbine mile coming off. The pace is up there hassle. What are you doing good at it and was is there? And I wasn't GonNa wire-to-wire the fraction exactly opposite of what I thought they would be actually set a perfect for any for the late runners. You Might WanNa Ready. Yeah I I got. It was kind of a free bed given what I had behind it that I could take another chance with the money that I had. They try to win the conflict. Well and I'm curious because at this point now there's the distaff turf and the classic left and what was your. What was your mentality at that point because ultimately here you're gonNA you're GONNA hit Vegan? The TURF and not participate in the classic was is that what was your thinking going into. The the last big three didn't like the classic never liked the classics thought. Four horses could when Didn't have a feel for it. Didn't have a feel for how they were going to run. It wasn't true who was speed. One just never felt comfortable. I ended up picking Mackenzie first second or third. I did have a little bit of billboard so I said I'm taking my run at it right now and the staff. Yeah Look I. I consider the race amid they start out to be a mistake And I I wouldn't have exact anyway but basically all I was trying to do their. Steve was get enough money in case I miss the turf to try to win it on the classic. Even though I it wasn't anything well I there were tries. I was Gonna the point is I think I probably would have hit the try. I'm not sure if it would have been enough to win It turned out. It was irrelevant because when the term AH wasn't gonNA play the classic But Yeah I just completely missed on the distant but I was more thinking just staff to try to get the money for the classic in case I well and the distaff. What was your thinking in here because again? We're we're dealing with a an even money favourite in midnight be sue and she was funny because There there was that same dialogue going into this this that you know she particularly for those that you know that use Premium performance numbers. You know the dialogue again was his. She's no faster than several year. Yeah it was interesting. I was wrong about that race and I watched obviously every one of her races. I bought her last last work. was sessional again watching the expertise and then being there live on for Wednesday morning just to get everything. It's such A. It's such a great help And I I watch and I said she just one of these horses it's going to run fast enough to win And she never looked like a winner at anytime in that race. Just this understood the race and it turned out. I didn't have the winner anyway. It Mike Vaccines that use for Morse's a on workouts Be On form cycles and fire figures and all the stuff I usually use it. Yeah just completely wrong about that. Basement the great thing about this context author. You could be wrong a lot. You only got a couple of times well. And that's true Breeders Cup in general. Tell everybody you not not only. Can you be wrong about horses. You can miss that and and then in fact be at some point just be right about even even a horse that doesn't win and betting them properly is everything and technically. That's the story for next where you're going to bank one. One hundred thirty seven thousand dollars on a two thousand dollar bunch and talk about what you saw in united that made you think that that he could be on a par late with bricks and mortar is so i. I didn't think he was GonNA part Brexit mortar. I thought he was going to be closing. There's pressure from that standpoint. I I didn't think that when I thought was when none of the good euros came and in all the channel cats channel makers and all your courses that take turns beating each other came it was pretty easy to eliminate half the field Someone twice 'cause I just wasn't you gotta be enough for me to get anywhere at some point performance and when Chad Brown decided to run the mile a half. If you remember all your logging 'cause they kinda got a mile We're GONNA do something different or we might not even running the skull that told me he saw what we saw that the rain. It was a week Breeders Cup turf. For what what we usually see. No it ain't none of the European superstars so I can see the rain. Brexit border because I watched the Bronco ear and how good he was and and a lot of things like the life except bannon Iran Ortiz. So how did that come out with the United again process of elimination to a point twice to appoint I needed a big one and the workout. Who was the was the best I saw of any of the horses in the turf? I didn't see all the work. That's because obviously some of the workout. You're not seeing but I thought it was substantial. I'm getting Richard Bandala. I'm getting Flavian. Pratt is the best writer in California and other than tyrod you could actually make the case. He was riding better than Iraq was on somebody log shots over the weekend. He was riding gray and the fact that I knew at that stage. I was going to need a nick price and I told the guys are playing with that. This is going to be a minimum of one hundred dollars in probably more and I WANNA save two thousand four could hits. It's going to get into the six figures And in what not perform past performances thought they were okay but nothing special. He was more like well. It's kind of a a plotter And actually thought again he was going to be closing rather than brochure closing on him And the last thing I soci that question for me was the week of the race in that in the notes and I try to read everything Mandela said because there was some kind of flat in the race before. It's been sick after the race. That's why the performance was like that. I said that's it. That's the one I'm going to save something perfectly two thousand dollar punch for that race and if I'm right and basically I'm trying to beat a couple of other courses for second with the way I look at it if I'm right it's two thousand is going to become a hundred data became honored thirty seven. I was wondering if you were if you had to save look on your face that Mandela did. I was standing on the on the track. You know waiting for the horses to come back and Richard came out and had this absolute a wide kind of look. At the kind of bemused used smile. You know if if somebody told me he was gonNA finish second. You know that united was going to run the arguably the better race than Omaha Beach. I don't know if he would have if he would have believed you but I mean the united comes closer to winning his race then then then Omaha beach that is That alone was a story. Yeah it it was something I mean. What a beautiful right I mean people could chance to watch the replay practice everything? I did a great ride as I'm watching the race and say to my friends at let's say that We're getting exactly what we want with united not exactly. I thought that I thought he'd be behind. Bricks and mortar put borders surrounded by channel. Whatever channel the one place that go steadying? I'm gone now. We just need this tour. Stick it out and get some room to run and finally and then you're looking at your side you're gauging. It is enough time and what comes first the wire at fortunately for us. I can only imagine it's wins. This you get nothing. What would that have been? What kind of feeling that a bit? Yeah I've been there before anybody. Everybody knows me at the racetrack. I'm one punch exactly guy that's all. I'm doing forever and if it comes the other way I'm willing to deal with the consequences but what I liked to have. Maybe like a couple of hundred three nine. Yeah with a with a hundred yards ago. Yes didn't I didn't have the right number unbelievable and you bring in one hundred thirty seven thousand two hundred and you know I. I was taking screen in caps after each race and I got a few of the leaderboards up out onto onto twitter but I i. I realized later that that the one with you had not had not taken root it. It ended up in the drafts. Section of of you know twitter her and I found it later but you know what what are you thinking at that point now here. Here's the did you think you was going to be enough or did you think we need to do something in the classic I gave it a Lotta thought. My biggest problem is I said earlier in the class. 'cause I just didn't have a strong opinion Had I had a strong opinion on a horse I felt fairly competent was gonNA win..
Dennis' Moment Lives up to the Hype in Iroquois
"Good morning my friend very good more this where we just played the clip type of this horse breaking his maiden Dennis's moment and have you. I know you've been around some pretty darn. Good horses my friend but this is that impressed that performance was so so so impressive yeah. It's bad in the best meaning victory ever seen so I've been around a Lotta. He acts like he's one of the best. When did you start to get in a sense that he could be this kind of horse like him a lot when they were breaking even then we came into us when the first time she prays. I'm working with some good horses. Nobody can keep up with it so figured we were on something pretty special and then he comes out in his maiden race and clips heels loses. Jockey Robbie Alvarado that was in June and then redeems himself of that nineteen eight victory what was going through your mind when you saw him clip heels and saw Robbie come off. That was a bad day. I was just I hope I saw the ratings. Were still in place in soap. They went come over said tripping wouldn't get hurt and then worried about he was hurt when we got back to the barn but he's sure got lucky that day and that's that's show how good he really is in. The stomach did get get himself up recovering. Come back in and Iran down to Orson wonder race and fifty Yup Yup. You know you were saying that that was maybe the most special maiden breaking performance performance that you've seen it. You've seen a lot of them. Nineteen lengths the final margin I as as he's drawing off through the stretch and you're watching that what's going through your mind. Well I mean. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. He just got widening and asks the Jack said he actually never asked him to. Rani said he couldn't tell us going that fast but turnaround look. There's nobody back there. I mean it had me shaken with so impressive when now he s a stretch out go to turns in in this mile and a sixteenth Iroquois later this afternoon. What have you done to make sure he's ready to stretch out. Well yet missed a beat. I mean the thing is you don't want to Overdo it. He's but he missed a pre work then on racetrack over day since handed and he's naturally should rallied the distance with federal great yeah he should son of. Tis Now and a horse that appears to be is talented as they come and just in case you're wondering they'll just two hundred thirty one days ten hours six minutes and four seconds until the first Saturday in May that's a lot of strategy for a horse. Do you let that cross your mind at all at this point. That's way too early. I mean you can't help but to start dreaming a little bit but there's so much inbetween here and we just wanted to get through this race if you're expecting superbowl towards the Breeders Cup. You've done pretty well in this Iroquois this again looking for your third victory. you want it in two thousand thirteen we Kleber and came back in two thousand sixteen with not this time. What is it about this race. It just seems to fit your overall schedule and your philosophy was churchill downs for one. That's that's how I need to know. The last ten years we deal with a lot of courses trying to make a derby horse or triple crown horse. This is the first step in the past thirty so it's just a pretty obvious fit force you know he showed a lot of speed going to the to the front right off the bat and that seven Furlong Maiden win. Is that the strategy. You expect to see again today. There's a lot of speed in the race so it just leave it up to the ACA Iran Ortiz. The best rat countries coming in around him breaking. Put him wherever he feels comfortable. Just try not to give him. Stop talking about that relationship. You have with the al-baas obviously you've you've had a ton of success in recent years partnering with them talk about that relationship yeah. It's been good I mean. We put a system together several years ago to try to get derby horses. We've put up. We've had a five years. I've got the three times and really everybody thinks they have a Lotta. Horses will only about eight euros a year so the systems working and hopefully this horse can get us there. A two definitely deserved win the big yeah no doubt about it. This horse sold for four hundred thousand dollars as a yearling at the Saratoga sale the phasing Tipton Saratoga sale last last year. What was it you saw him as a yearling that made you think okay we gotta have him well. We got a big team. That goes out selects. The horses got from the pedigree the analyst of the shortlist very park for not come through with the final say and he just jumped through all the hoops you have to go through the cardiovascular exam a skeleton exam he jumped through all the hoops and you know the price point we thought was fair for Saratoga. Especially four hundred thousand looks like it's GonNa pay the off. Yeah it certainly does. He's he's talented. Dennis's moment in the grade three Iroquois race ten at Churchill this afternoon yet a few others to you have three other maidens ends that are entered you have to in the fourth race in one in the eleventh race following the Iroquois Tell me a little bit about cigar box and fight fight fight in the fourth scratched fight fight fight fight. I don't like him. Come out on the white running KLOM race and cigar box source. He's doing good. You never know about our debut but he's training very well. later later on we've got the very top divorce and continental clash another. Tis Now. He's a big strong. Colton who got started anymore else. He just wanted to stretch out on. I just want to get a raise at L. Cave you. You know it's funny. When you think about sport seems Dale you often hear that they don't rebuild build. They reload in every year. You come round with these top two year olds. It seems like that's all you do. You don't rebuild just reload this game. Everything starts on September. When we start on babysit hopefully continue to do that. You know the our goal is to win executor. Everyone saying the only way you can do to start with some good young horses yeah it would be special special del Romans a native of Louisville to win the Kentucky Derby at his home track in his home town would be quite remarkable. Dale is always man. I appreciate the visit and thanks thanks for spending a few minutes. I know you got a lot of things to get to today so I'll let you

"I think he said we had from that era. We had them archived at the university of Kentucky library, which was Margaret I king library, which we always there on a Friday and Saturday night when I went to UK, but. Of. But Mike K became something else. I think it's now the WTI young library. So I I don't know if they got lost in the shuffle or thrown away or what? But I would just I would pay dearly for the nineteen seventy four there'd be coverage coverage by wave. But that was when all three of the local networks in Louisville had access to Churchill Downs during derby day. So there was all kinds of stuff going on TV wise, they broadcast straight through or did they do cut away. His they did straight through everybody did straight through. Well. Yeah. I think that ended maybe in the eighties. Yeah. So mazing. Well, anybody that might know where Marty can find this video let get in touch because he want any says it'll be the most popular tweet that he'll ever put out. Yeah. Me when I was fourteen being interviewed on TV. And it's proved that that was I have been I mean, I don't have the programs tickets or anything from so many Darby's, I've really been remiss about that having a collection like David Swayze has or you know, a lot of other people. My dad had a friend named Bob Bosley who had derby collection. Go back to the forties and fifties aid. He died when I was sixteen. So yeah, I don't know what happened to how many glasses did you? Mom's my mom's been giving them away. She's she had a basement full of so, yeah, I've got a whole bunch of those two. Everybody has I bought them on EBay. And then they started to get crazy. The old ones got started to get crazy expensive. My mom's home for two dollars because she just wanted to I'll take all right? I'll take I'll take all. She's got from from before nineteen seventy two funny. Well, Martin it's the knew we were going to have fun and to have a couple of live conversations together here at Tampa. And some thoughts about you've been handicapping Tampa all season famed as Hermes in the daily racing form selection grid, and let's let's get some picks out there and some final analysis. All right. What do you wanna talk about start with? Let's start with the might as well start with the derby. You know, had dinner with Trump battle. I always been better fan. They're all in and that horse was he's been a monster. And every race now whether or not as Mike would readily tell you whether or not that translates to a turn off or just as big is what remains to be seen. And I'm hoping it does. And you know, a lot of times outta here. St. we've got what we got seven weeks to the Kentucky Derby from now and Todd has has been prone to if he wins the the Tampa Bay derby, not run back in the in a prep for the Kentucky Derby, he just goes straight from here because you get the fifty points, you're in right? So when you and I were talking with Mike, I guess I was accustomed to guy's not running an extra prep. But Mike said, of course, he's going to have another prep. So which would be probably in the bluegrass or would. I think he said, which makes sense. But. This is obviously the toughest field he'll ever face. He's got you know, there's a lot of speed in here. Mike believes that Iran Ortiz's the man for the job to get him to relax, you know, through the opening stages down the backstretch and then make the one round that's been so powerful for him..

"And so after Tampa Tuesday disappeared I kind of got away from playing it other than you know, the two or three big winter days. Well, they kind of piggyback I guess with Gulfstream and and some of the other tracks. But last time I look Steve the average per day handle here was about four million dollars, which solid and I remember writing when you said that. Let me switch. Good. I'm gonna just put this year, and maybe pick up a little bit extra volume. Okay. But remember writing five or six years ago when Peter Brugge he'd made that decision to go to the more mainstream type of schedules. Now, they run a Wednesday Friday Saturday Sunday that was kind of the sign they they were entering the big time because you do have your quote unquote off tracks the tend to run on the Mondays Tuesdays. Well, the card that they're gonna put on Saturday shapes up beautifully. And of course, now with Santa Anita postponed and with the big cap and the kill row, and you know, we haven't mentioned as yet. But I think on Sunday was going to be the Santa Isabel for the three year old Phillies. So that their fact it as well, of course, without those races where really going to be focused on on New York and on Tampa. And let's get you know in advance of the draw. Are we still looking at that same pack ten it was going? To be ten put something on Twitter yesterday from Aaron Wellman of clips Thermo partners. They are not going to run current. He would have been somewhat of an interesting question. They're trying the dirt. Again, he had a kind of a no try in the Kentucky jockey club at the end of his two year old year. But we do have a solid field of nine. It. Looks like a win win win who picks up Iran Ortiz junior. We'll be the favourite with well-defined and dream maker for Mark Cassie probably your second third choices Tacitus for Bill Motte he'd been he'd worked at least once that I know with hidden scroll in the mornings, they're at at pace got his brains beat it from what I hear and Jose Ortiz has the has the writer, both Ortiz brothers and leper ru and Bravo. And I'm leaving out somebody Florida ru are going to be here writing throughout the card on on Saturday Lewis as. Was going to ride current, but he's not going to be here. But let's pretty solid field nine that we got for the the Tampa Bay derby, which of course, is one of the points races toward the may fourth Kentucky Derby. Your conversations with Mike Trump betta and with win win bypass the Sam Davis, and that actually in my own conversations with with Trump better that pretty much was a plan from from fairly quickly after the Pasco the to to wait and work on his stamina some thoughts because he's working like a matador's every one of his races have been good now. He's stuff's up to to tougher competition and the to turn for the first time you've got a question whether or not who get the classic type distances like the derby. He is by hat trick. So I think Mike is just wanting to go ahead and get this done. See what he can do at this in this type of race and proceed from there. He's a real no Mike for thirty years. I remember him playing. I was a shortstop needed the first basement on on one of our teams are Pimlico. But. He's a little tall for shortstop. No. I was who Trump betta. No. He was I if that makes sense I could see the game..

"But there's a couple of chocks the beaten five thousand of the not my favorite race, the handicap, but take a little extra then we get the Gulf Dame. You gotta to Philly mayor race on long, sir. A regular rates. Good rates. I usually try to find the center of the rails at sixty feet. And I don't know. I don't even know what that means to tell you the truth, and they're on the insight course, the outside court. So I kind of try to that. Of course is so big but found a few horses in here battle of Blenheim, and then three of them on the outside the from Kelly green is going to have some speed loan speed might use him medal of honor and then siding spring with or cheese on their horses. Already won the condition. It comes back to the tag not a bad race circuit kind of narrow that down to three or four. Then we go back to Gulfstream. For the old Nate and twenty on the term and don't get a chance to see a whole lot of these out here. Although that's in the future is what I'm hearing. But couple of courses in there that that that I liked and look that were the droppers I seemed always to go the droppers Tony more God has a horse there that he's just got off a Pletcher second time back. There's a first time starter from George Weaver, which you know, what big first time started for the maiden twenty. But the field has so many you can taught that that most ride with Iran Ortiz getting on for the first time might be might be a play in there. And then there's the speed horse. I win ski wine at the beach. That's worth taking a look. I mean, there's looks to me like there's a half dozen throw out that just got it off. And you gotta hope that some of those don't don't get in there. The top rate, but those are the rates maybe you can narrow down get the Golden Gate gotta made Nate, which I I had. Laugh at myself last night. I'm watching replays of made Nate's which I don't do that often. You gotta be kidding me. But anyway, I wanted to particularly those big common rates in here. The daddies mistress rates, and I wanted to pick for attention, the horse ran second. There Princess run it the rest of them were kinda didn't do much this horses. I start ran a little green early but finished with the little guts, though. So I'm gonna try narrow this down for instance, run it, and I time or from Bill Delia culture Bouzo just because some of these are so bad, but Princess run it look good to be on film. And that. That's about as bad as best way to handicap that as I could. And then we come here to Dan in need it for the final leg down the hill for for Phillies allowance race and try to narrow that down because it looks like you're gonna have to go wide early. But to keep them from the bills far barn came back from a little bit of a layup with the lean got right down late. I like that time Vatikiotis looks live in here horse from.

"And so the call Paul winning was basically going to get us back, you know, hopefully, a shot at a debt. Slight profit, and it didn't work out that we've feedback with. So so overwhelmingly favored, and that was the I think that was of course, the the doomsday scenario and it played out that way, so not much you can do to avoid that on the front end other than to say, hey, you know, we're gonna make a slightly smaller player we're gonna throw a call Paul together. Or we'll we won't even use them as a backup. If he wins, we lose, but I didn't have an anti call Paul opinion. So that was the that was kind of tricky part. So that's I think what you what you kinda have to gauge with these things. And that's why using both as in backups. You can have a little bit of a very opinion in the sense that things can can mix and match tad. And you end up hitting even though this was not a sequence where you were ever going to get filthy rich. It was obviously gonna take a horse copper tea or or somebody Incisa jolt and the the Swail to really juice up the payoff. So it was a way of just kind of surviving the whole thing. And I think, but as we. We kind of hone our approach to determining who as who were backups, and and how we're gonna structure tickets with or without bees with w tickets so on and so forth, we can minimize the amount of bankroll investment and maximize the potential returns on some of those good opinions coming in. Well, you know, the the reality in the Swail, it was actually Zenden, and the fact that you know, Zenden ran a very good race at eight to one. And somehow if he prevails if called Paul who who really off the turn you could see Iran Ortiz was was sitting in a in a great position. And you could tell that he he knew he had horse and was gonna cruise on up and and by, but if Zenden prevails he's an eighteen dollar winter. Exactly, exactly. And I would say also the right and the other part of it was I thought he got a bad ride. I know that it probably would make a difference. He was probably going to be no better than second. In any case. But the rush up on inside down the backstretch just completely defeated the purpose of the cutback. And maybe he's a horse. It's got a little bit too much speech really effectively cut back. But I mean, I really didn't have custody gave him a fair shot in doing that. He's he's not going to be called Paul and that kind of scenario with called Paul getting such an ideal setup trip. But yeah, there were a couple little things that could have happened that could've justed those results tad, and and maybe, you know, made it so that that there was a little bit more meat on the bone in terms of the overall payoff. I think you know, would have been double if I had used fingers of be instead of see, and I think we didn't really know exactly how to approach that. In terms of whether Maximus shift was much better than everybody. I guess the the pitfall of the wager and all certainly admit when they're shortcomings is that the the main opinion was feedback in me house with one of the as in the middle, and that wasn't even going to profit. So it was not a well constructed wager or series, but that to get out of it with a little bit of a profit is great. And hopefully, some people were able to take that ANC. See matrix apply to pick five or a pick four which did both pay pretty well when you threw in a horse like soul..
