He believed they will come close to their targets in twenty twenty. "Eleven twenty, three on the big show, blocked by the big show, rolling along or Secretary of Agriculture Mike. Nagy and the telephone line with us, Mike it never fails in this business that I get things prepared. We WanNa talk about and then. All the sudden POPs up. And we changed direction so guess what something popped up here about a half hour ago. And, I know you can address this. But the IRS state fair has released their four H. AN FFA livestock show schedule, and I want to emphasize first off. This isn't a big public event. This big come out and see it. This is kind of a private show, but still it's a great way of allowing these young people to be recognized for the great work. They do with livestock. It looks like Mike. The show's going to be hailed on Friday and Saturday August, seven, eight, Friday and Saturday August, Fourteen fifteen and Friday and Saturday August twenty one twenty two so with with that. I'll let you take the the bow on the fact that we're announcing the state fair. Livestock lineup. We'll just absolutely thrilled that. This is moving ahead and I. Know when we talked. Last week about the fair, not being held this year as we know it that we still the fair board wanted to see some celebration of agriculture, and especially something focused on our young people and The staff has been working diligently to put something together that would accomplish that and I think they'll be even more that rolls out to just to give folks just a little taste of what the state fair is, but I'm just thrilled that you and I've talked many times about what's happening at the county level with fares and canceling entertainment, but still being able to have the competitions and have young people show and and That's exactly what's going to happen here. Through the month of August, so just really excited that this is an been announced today. And might want to mention Mike. I mentioned the crowd control. A lot of people are wondering about that. It says right here that each exhibitor will receive three wrist bands, so it is going to be very limited, but still special special event. Absolutely and again keep in mind again, we we just know that life isn't normal right now and and so this situation will have to be very. We'll have to work through it with some some care and concern, and and do so in a way that safe, but but again I think we just WanNa. Make sure that those young people get a chance to compete. Compete and so whether you're talking about showing showing the fairgrounds or whether you're talking about playing baseball or softball. You know there's some things that we've got to do to to protect ourselves project others, and so to get need to make sure we're doing the right things there. There will be some restrictions but again. just really thrilled that this'll be proceeding. Now another program again. This is what I had to talk to you about so we are getting to the agenda. Here that I supposed to talk to you about today. Is You and the governor have announced? Something called the beef up Iowa program. Tell me about that well. We started with past the pork and This is just the next the next project here that we're really really proud to to announce and I'm so thankful that we've got our agricultural community continuing to step up and. Help those in need. It's what we do. We feed people and This is just an extension of that and so again we've seen a disruption in the in the cattle industry processing capacity slowed down. We know we've got some excess Cadillac there. Same concept here applies to acquire some cattle We're going to have those cattle process up at the Iowa State University meets lab, so we're working with the Department of Animal Science Up There Won't be processed meat lockers or the across the state. They'll be done right there and aims, and then ultimately donated to food banks and Food Pantries. Now the other thing I want to bring into here because I I think this this the neat part of this whole program is the initial cattle will be sourced from Iowa Four H. and FFA members. Absolutely so again, think of disruption in that in that space normally you'd like to show your show your sphere, and to have the go to the auction, and and go to market from there, and and given the demand that's happening in some of these meat lockers and meat processors. We suspect that there might be a few folks out there for H. and FFA projects that don't have A. A place to go right now, and so, what a great way to connect all of these dots and couldn't think of a better way to make that happen so four H.. FFA Iowa State University the Governor's Office The cattlemen's beef association the Beef Industry Council. All of these pieces coming together to to help folks out the Food Bank Association again. Just trying to help folks out here. Hey, mike another wonderful effort that you guys have put together here and. I wanted to ask you about die. Cambe, EPA, supposedly had what until Tuesday to respond, but I haven't seen anything. Is there any update on that situation? They did so. The petitioners filed an emergency motion to block EPA's existing stocks order, and so that was filed and EPA had until Tuesday night to file their response to that which they did, and then the petitioners have until the end of the day today to respond to EPA now. We don't know exactly what happens next. The court could act quickly. The court could take some time to decide Frankly we just. Just, don't know, but the deadline is later today five PM Pacific for the petitioners to respond, and then we'll have a decision sometime after that about whether or not EPA's continuing existing stocks order will will continue so as of right now. a cam can still be used in the state of Iowa, and it will be able to be used up until we hear from EPA related to any court decision. Yeah I. Know There's a lot of it. That's going on here. With this. I just want to remind folks used follow that label. Windy warm, follow the label. Absolutely, thanks, Mike. We appreciate it as always we'll talk into. Take care. You, too. That is I was secretary of Agriculture Mike Nag with us. Here today on the big show Don rose takes a look at the market who better to ask about uncertain markets and a guy who's been doing one year. Right is perspective next on the big show..

What do you got the over the under there? I think in different times. Perhaps I would go. Under, but we are now living in terrible economic reality and I think ten year contract extension Dr Probably thing of the past at least temporarily. Don't underestimate the power influence and dynamism of booth, gotch returning home to Minnesota. He four seven sports. I picked Minnesota because it was the best fit for me. Overall playing in the home state, being with my family during these difficult times and playing with the talented group, coming in Gotcha is going to most likely. Sit Out for next season. He will apply for a waiver. listen. It's booth Gotcha. Anything's possible and I'd love nothing more than to talk with. With you on this podcast sometime later this year and dedicated an entire episode to Gotcha getting immediately eligible, but I don't know if he can pull that ultimately, they'll goodwin here. I mean Minnesota Beats. Out Clayton Iowa State Maryland Auburn for Gotcha Services. He played the past two seasons at Utah, coming off a season where he averaged ten point, seven point, three point, six rebounds, and two point nine assists most notably rose to fame when you and I both failed in about seven different pronunciations unexpectedly as he came up during a December episode of the eye on college basketball podcast, but he has become. Quite beloved in a short period of time legitimately can be a really good player for Minnesota. This is the third transfer. For Richard Pitino in this offseason. Is I know Minnesota wasn't in your top twenty, five and one I assume version. What nineteen point I was going to be coming out on Tuesday. I must say what Minnesota from unranked to seventeenth eighteenth. Are you going to hold off even though Gosh might not? Not Be eligible I'm just wondering if there's influence on this roster scout team, and all that stuff might be enough for you to put Richard Patino team into the rankings. Here's what I would say. I I understand your skepticism about booth garage getting a waiver to play immediately at Minnesota, but I would say if Johnny. Jusin got one transferring back home to UCLA. Why wouldn the Homie Gawk get? One, at Minnesota. That's a very valid point. I consider that goofing around When I would, I reached out to people connected to the juicing situation as Joe First, congrats, secondly, how'd you get done so quickly? It wasn't just that choosing got waiver. It was like you got a waiver in like early. June or late, May, I mean it was a really sometimes. He's players waiting for waivers like the seats and started. Started and like they're still I'd nerd anything and to get one done that early. How you get a dog. And what I was told was it's was the easiest waiver request ever. You've got a young man on the other side of the country, wanting to move home to be close to his family during a pandemic. How was it ended up going to deny that one? It's like okay and if you apply that same. Logic to booth Gotcha. SCITUATE I would I would actually assume that he will get a waiver play immediately and to answer your question at that point I got bad news for I you. Look, there's a new favorite. There's a new paper to the big ten. GOPHERS. got.

He's one <Speech_Male> of the guys that had a vote <Speech_Male> yesterday. Well <Speech_Male> in the State Fair decision, <Speech_Male> and obviously <Speech_Male> went through this the <Speech_Male> Great Jones County. Fair <Speech_Male> a couple of weeks higher. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Also <Speech_Male> on some restaurants, <Speech_Male> and so it was kind <Speech_Male> of a fascinating conversation <Speech_Male> with him a little <Speech_Male> bit this morning on, <Speech_Male> you know consumer <Speech_Male> confidence at this <Speech_Male> point <hes> <Speech_Male> which of course <Speech_Male> does play into. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> The decision. <Speech_Male> People feel comfortable <Speech_Male> in. <Speech_Male> What did Mike <Speech_Male> say a population <Speech_Male> dense? <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Areas that she's grand. <Speech_Male> Avenue <SpeakerChange> at the <Speech_Male> Iowa State Fair. <Speech_Male> Yeah <Speech_Male> Yeah <Speech_Male> Yeah. Okay? <Speech_Male> Yeah, but I'M GONNA. <Speech_Male> Ask You a question here. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Don Rose was talking <Speech_Male> about. <Speech_Male> This <Speech_Male> box beef <Speech_Male> trade, okay <Speech_Male> and choice <Speech_Male> boxes <Speech_Male> have dropped <Speech_Male> from <Speech_Male> four seventy <Speech_Male> five to where <Speech_Male> we are today <Speech_Male> to forty <Speech_Male> something like that. <Speech_Male> Eighteen <Speech_Male> days we've <Speech_Male> taken two hundred and <Speech_Male> thirty three dollars off <Speech_Male> that okay. <Speech_Male> Six. <Speech_Male> Talking, about <Speech_Male> near <SpeakerChange> record <Speech_Male> levels at two thirty <Speech_Male> right, yeah. <Speech_Male> At two <Speech_Male> thirty. <Speech_Male> Correct. That's <Speech_Male> right. Okay, here's <Speech_Male> my question <Speech_Male> though. <Speech_Male> Yesterday's live <Speech_Male> basis was <Speech_Male> ninety eight to one <Speech_Male> hundred ninety eight cents <Speech_Male> one away. That's four dollars <Speech_Male> lower than last week <Speech_Male> by the way, so <Speech_Music_Male> if <Speech_Music_Male> At <Speech_Music_Male> two thirty three, <Speech_Music_Male> we <Speech_Music_Male> should be. <Speech_Music_Male> At <Speech_Music_Male> let's say one hundred. <Speech_Music_Male> How <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> come at four seventy five? <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> We weren't <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> at <SpeakerChange> two <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> twenty five. <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <SpeakerChange> Are you sure <Speech_Music_Male> there's going to be? "Well looking at the numbers world, agricultural supply and demand report that is out. was out at eleven o'clock today, and by the way I posted live video, the market reaction as the numbers came out, it was positive at the time that has since changed a little bit silly, being wise, but the salient numbers to use Bob's word. Is that US? Corn is little changed from last month fractional increases to beginning and ending stocks. With some different adjustments there, but the even season average price is unchanged three twenty Bushel, ending stocks, five million bushels higher, three point, three billion on the carry out of the twenty twenty crop, as far as soybeans go higher beginning stocks higher crush, slightly lower, ending stocks a lot of that has to do with lower twenty nineteen production as the latest re survey by Nasser North Dakota, but the bottom line is the average cash price. Remains unchanged at eight fifty. You can see all of these specific numbers out on the big show website. Surprisingly, strong US exports during the month favorable according to Dan Hallstrom. President and CEO of the US Meat Export Federation who big show yesterday that we may be a little off record numbers in some categories. And calling off the State Fair postponing most of the events until twenty twenty, one, certainly the grant. And most of the entertainment acts the one thing that they will continue with however, or for H. and FFA shows according to I was secretary of Agriculture. Mike Nag at the fair won't be going on this year and It's it was. It was tough decision and there's been a whole lot of folks. Those board members the staff at the fair working with public health. Officials trying to figure out running through different scenarios and really working hard to try to figure out how to bring this fair on this year, but he said for him it came down to the fact that the fair and what it provides in means for so many different islands just wouldn't be possible this year, so they postponed those events for three hundred and sixty five days until two, thousand, twenty one, but specific details on the fortune FA shows are yet to be worked out. "Eleven! on the big show, Bob Quinn, and the big show with you today talking agriculture from Shelter Nebraska all the way northern. Kentucky come on inside tent is large friends. Andy Peterson GonNA bring us up to date. What's going on here news? Wise you start off the half hour. Though Don rose us, commodities in west of moines down as our market analyst of the day Don, we have a washed a report to look at however. We also follow what's going on Wall Street a little bit, and you would think that we'd be used to volatility on Wall Street. Today I think the volatility is may be caught. Maybe I'm the only one in the world that doesn't know what's going on, but It caught me by surprise down twelve hundred points I guess fire looking at this is great market I'd say uh, somebody wants be taking some profits out of the wall out of the marketplace today. What's going on is pushing this dow down twelve thirteen hundred points right now. Well you know the thing that really was. The catalyst was fed chairman Powell yesterday in the press conference. It talk about the Dow Jones is going to be are the economy is going to be more of a protracted recovery? What he said and he said rather than a v-shaped, the actually said a w recovery. which what's that mean that means? We went down then we just went up and then he's talking even in terms of down again so and when you talk about. About the recovery and the economy at the same time, the crude oil has had a massive rally off the bottom. Remember at one time I actually went negative in May and and then run up sharply to forty dollars a barrel, and now it's down four dollars a at the present time, so it's the petro grains getting a little bit of a press here, but no doubt. The equity markets are taking the wind out of the sales in a lot of things today. Boy, I I'd have to say so. Is it affecting the grain trade and talk a little bit about that and also give me the salient figures out of this Wabi report. Well. I think when you at the Watson report. I think you know the bottom line is the government was very careful in making any changes they did basically nothing. They left the demand side on the corn completely unchanged. They took the ending stocks on corn. Up just five million on old crop on new crop, but you're still left Bob, with over three point, three billion Bushel carry out on corn, instill with the demand. That's probably too high ethanol too strong the same thing on soybeans. They just made minor tweaks really didn't change much. They took the ending stocks up on. Soybeans on on old crop on. On new crop down five million, but remember June thirtieth. We're going to have an update on acres in probably GONNA have acres? Go Up and then the yield probably is low by the government on corn and beans with the crop ratings at the seven tire highest in the last thirty three years on corn in the fifth highest on soybeans, the negative on. On the report was the wheat and weeds down eleven cents in Kansas City. We got wheat harvest going on, but they took world ending stocks up six million metric tons, and they took the production up on the wheat crop. This year with a trade thought it could go down, so better yields coming out of Texas. Oklahoma and rains in Kansas. Kansas did it so that's the long and short on the report. We went in You know with the market that the funds are big shorts in the corn, the farmer, the big long in the corn on the cash market. We're still sitting in the same place all lies now. Guys are focused on whether what happens going forward in the next month. Yeah, Hey, down at Andy so the uptrend in soybeans and corn than you think continues, or does this kind of moderate things here? Waiting on that stocks report at the end of the month. Well you know I think what it does. Is I think it keeps us in this You know it's kind of one of these markets that we're just kinda in check. We've kind of reached an equilibrium on corn and soybeans at these price levels. You know around three, twenty, five, three, thirty on July corn. On soybeans around this age sixty, eight seventy, and we're waiting for some kind of a catalyst more than likely. It has to come out of weather. Either the weather turns. turns in climate, or you know the vice versa so I think we're watching that the stocks report is probably going to be a key June thirtieth along with the acres, but remember probably GonNa. have acres go up onto two million on soybean's down, maybe two on corn with a prevent plan acres up in the DAKOTAS and such but I tell you it's a market that's just on hold waiting for weather with still a bearish tent, because world supplies are huge, and we just heard From, the the Fed chairman, a protracted recovery, and that's pounding the Dow Jones and the energy market. Today. As far as livestock go here, real quick looks like fairly quiet, except for the feeders done down a little bit today. Yeah. You know I think when you look at the I mean here's one. Is the box beef just got the way Kyrie out of control to the outside. The box beef in eighteen trading days has dropped a whopping to hundred and thirty three dollars to put it in perspective, but went up to four seventy five, and now we're back down to about two thirty six. So that's a huge Production is ramping up on hogs and cattle, so that's pressing the cutout. That's pressing the cash wild cash trade yesterday. We had a case trade in a full range ninety eight to one zero eight on cattle. So that's a a big swing is what's going on? Hey Don we're up against clock. I'm GonNa talk to you again coming up, but I wrote down two things I want you to think about one of you had said. yields are probably too low right now for corn and beans, and that tells me that we're going to need something to drop this market if we're going to see a run, the other thing is I I got a hand to. You may have the quote of the decade on. You said the government did bas- basically nothing and. We we can put. You know many days. That could be some great news. About careful. In in the meantime, Don how how can we get a hold of what eight hundred numbers? You can reach us here at US commodities, a one, eight, hundred, two, four, seven, four, zero, seven one. I Don Don rose US commodities. West Moines starting us off a andy with expand. Classic, the classic I'm going to record that and have it to punch up with many different. Events, but here's the here's the key. I, think he. He hit on and I. DO BELIEVE The market is is buying into this is that the projected yields right now are probably too low for corn and beans. What's that say says we probably have a higher risk of going down in this market than we do of moving higher unless we have some kind of extended weather event, but at the same time you know the markets aren't going down as the market buys into that right, so maybe they're just bacon that in and that's part of why you see the average price where it is because you know if we'd have been sitting here. A year ago, probably isn't the best comparison because the planting delays in the different situation, but just generally speaking the USDA comes out with a a three dollar, twenty twenty seven average cash price projection for the year and eight fifty on soybeans. I. Mean that's that's through the floor right? So maybe that's part of maybe the the fact that they've got yields that are two to low factored in at this point is part of why the projections are where they are for this average cash price throughout the course of the year. Suppose that's a possibility. I. Don't know I just like I said when I heard that from him. I got a little bit concerned, so hey, we need to move on right now. Three big things you need to know Andy brought to you by. Soybean farmer..

"Ought to the minute commodity prices and market analysis that makes sense. This is the big Joe. Haven't twenty three on the big show clock, one of the big show cobalt blue skies to look into today, friends and temperatures on the rise. What a day to be involved in Iowa. Agriculture are Secretary of Agriculture Mike Nagging the telephone line with US I've said it many times over the last month and a half or so secretary Nag that you probably look at your phone and see the big show number. Come up and think Oh, brother! Now what you know! What. Other possible thing could come up well. Yesterday. We learned that the Great Iowa State Fair has been postponed however I want to ask you about livestock shows you guys do the inspections for livestock and have the insight on on what might be coming up I? Understand that there's a provision made for youth livestock. Shows Four H. and, FFA. To be during the month of August kind of in that fair footprint. What what can you tell us about that? Either first of all I just I'm so disappointed I I, just I share everybody's disappointment and sadness that the fair. That, the fair won't be going on this year and It's it was. It was tough decision and there's been a whole lot of folks. Those board members the staff at the fair working with public health. Officials trying to figure out running through different scenarios and really working hard to try to figure out how to bring this fair on this year. You know what it came down to for me. Is that given all the restrictions that would have to be in place that just we just could not deliver the fair. That islands deserve or that Iowans have come to expect it's it. It is the greatest and nothing compares and to not be able to do that. you know that that's important to to factor that in and so instantly I'm thinking about how we're going to come back better and bigger than ever in twenty one and it'll be a great celebration once again now, part of the discussion. Over the last few weeks, and certainly yesterday, as as the vote was taken was what can we do and we know that there's a lot of entertainment aspects to the fair that we're going to be disrupted, and and and yet there's also the celebration of Iowa agriculture that that occurs at the fair part of that is these competitions for H. and FFA and livestock shows that we think should continue and will continue, and so there's work underway the fair is put together some some scenarios, and that's being worked on and and We're really anxious to to move forward with having some competitions and using that footprint using those dates somehow. Somehow to continue to have a celebration of agriculture on the fair grounds and and especially for our young people who we want to, and we know we're seeing county fairs across the state, going through the same cited just sort of decision process of how can they still have a show? How can they still have these livestock shows and events and competitions, and yet no that they can't do the all the other things so we're. We're really I'm excited in fact I've just pushing hard, and we want to see this come together, and I'm confident that the fair team. The staff will put together a wonderful event. I guess my the thing we've heard early on it's going to be youth livestock for HFA. No static exhibits in in other words none of the at what you see in the four H. building probably and no open classes that correct. You know there's again. This is still a fluid situation, but I think that's the core of what needs to happen. Certainly focused on the youth and and then we'll. We'll see what develops, but that's that's early early. Thinking again. I'm I've got all the confidence in that in that State Fair team and the staff that are working hard right now on this very topic. Hey Mike. It's Sandy. What. What have you heard since this decision then as far as? Is there sort of a relief? You think that that these shows will continue with the state fair level. How the State Fair is such a great tradition, and it's it means so much to so many and I think there's just a you know an outpouring of sadness about the fair, not going on and yet I'm hearing from a lot of folks. saying that they they understand the tough call that had to be made, and and you know that's just those those are. We are in unprecedented times and so no, it's totally understandable. Why this This decision would have to be made and yet there's still some folks that will disagree with that and and disappointed, but I think cross the agricultural community and. And certainly, for all of our friends who who participated livestock shows, and it's such an important part of their their lives I think there is an appreciation a relief that there will be something again a lot of details yet to come but I think there is an appreciation from folks that that there's an effort being made to try to do something. Hey Secretary Nancy. Thanks for joining US Mike. It's like I say it seems like every day. We have something. Else to discuss and I I know we have had a little of an update on the dike Cambe. Issue in that I believe we have a ruling now on farmers who had ordered and paid for, but not received delivery on Cambe and correct me if I'm wrong, but if you had paid for it before, June third, you can still accept delivery and use that product. Is that correct and again? There's some gray area here and we're still seeking additional guidance, but but again the way that we're interpreting this in the state of Iowa. Is that really largely this This order allows for the. The movement of product really except for you know at that registrar level, so if it's in distribution at retail or on farm, that those activities can still continue and Yes, that June third date though is very important, folks need to have a paid for it but again we're interpreting this very broadly in that product can still move because EPA did issue that existing stocks order, so it's just really important. Now work with your retailer. talk it through Egged retailers will be the key here and they make some different decisions, but we're opening the door for those decision. Mike joining us. Thank you secretary. Thanks for talking to us today. Well I'll tell you handy I'd like to just be able to come up one day and say hey. What's going on and having him say not much. Wow. was D- report out markets coming up on the big show..

"That he expects May may be a little bit of a rough month to is the full impact of Covid is brought to bear on the export market, but he also says he's very optimistic about a strong finish to the year. Major postponement, the Iowa state fair announcing the tradition of the Iowa state. What we'll go on as we're just talking about our four H. FFA. "From parts of central Colorado on through the upper midwest down to. Not Talk in modern food, fuel and fiber production and having a lot of fun. Doing it for a to D two hours every day eleven to one here on newsradio ten forty. Who Andy Peterson is my Bob Quinn will be along here in just a moment. Nate Fisher to take a look at. Worldwide whether and cropping conditions mid West cropping conditions as well world, agricultural supply demand report. Bob Out just a few moments ago, in fact, I put up a video. On the facebook page of the market reaction as the numbers were released in the answer. Is there really wasn't much up a couple of sense, nearby corn trade, but since then we basically GonNa right back down as the. US Corn Outlook is little changed from last month with fractional increases to beginning and ending stocks, soybean, wise and again there was a lot of negative news that was already baked into the market. higher beginning stocks for soybeans, higher crush and slightly lower ending stocks. Lower Twenty nineteen production reflects the latest survey for the Coda so they revised last year's crop downward. supplies are up both in the US and worldwide, which shows Bob. The negativity in that market that we're seeing this morning that that's that's a quick recap of the numbers. Of course we'll continue digging through these things. Has the big show goes along? Yeah interesting you say, the market reaction kind of what the analysts were talking about yesterday kind of Ho report and I guess this report can be that way a lot of times especially when we've had the amount of planning done you know last year Andy we were looking at this report is a planting progress report well and wondering if. If we're GONNA, get things in the ground yet, so we were we were in the middle of the entire record planning delays a year ago, and then this report came out with big acreage numbers and effectively cap the rally so most recent history on this one maybe was a little different than what you're talking about in terms of the overall trend. But in this case, it looks like we're back to maybe the overall trend with this report and not much of a market mover. The, it was really price projections in this I haven't waded through. These reports are about forty pages deep and I haven't seen any price projections yet. Oh, soybean, in the twenty twenty one season, average soybean and product price forecasts remain unchanged. That'd be eight dollars cents a bushel cash. and. Let's see when we look at coarse grains, even season average price unchanged at three twenty a Bushel. So it is really kind of a just a time marking report, and we'll move forward here in the marketplace. Well, check them Don rose is going to have a little more time to dissect the numbers here and pull out some of the salient Andy The elephant in the room. Is the fact that the Iowa State Fair has cancelled or postponed. I should say for this year. those of you listening to Jeff Angelo. Here a little bit ago, heard Gary Slater talking about that and I'm sure it was a wrenching decision. We appreciate all the work that the staff did and and The the directors did on that. I'm sure it wasn't a decision. They like to make, but they did and moving forward. It looks like Fair postponed next year however. And this is a real big, however for our listeners is that the fair board also voted in there to make provision to explore and or schedule? Youth shows I'm talking about four H. and FFA and they name four H. and FFA, so I called some folks yesterday to get a little bit more of a clarification I said. Does that mean any open clash? Shows said no does not meet any open class shows. It means right now. We're looking at Four H. and FFA shows don't know what the form is going to be but it. It looks like it will be in the month of August, so we know it's kind of the same footprint. What? What's that mean with what other fares are doing well I? Did look in and see what Indiana was doing? They're kind of doing the same thing. However, they're scheduling. All of their youth shows on weekends and I. Don't think we're going to do that. here at the Iowa state for I think it will probably represent the same footprint as far as schedule goes for our four H. FFA Kids to bring to bring livestock to the fair and I think it will be could be wrong here and but I think it will be bringing livestock to the fair so. I kinda no way that they asking to. Flush out and we'll figure out more about that in the next. Couple days. Absolutely and maybe even the next couple of hours is secretary now he's GonNa, join US coming up and then spend some time on the phone this morning. With the John Harms, who is of course, the general manager, good big show buddy at the Great Jones County Fair and also had a vote yesterday in the whole state where conversation. and you heard Gary Slater with with Jeff. Mentioned the the detailed report that staff put together on different options John said that they spent over two hours waiting through all of the different options that were presented and the possibilities, and and that sort of thing and we'll hear more about how all that went about an hour from now but there certainly is a commitment to the youth. There's no doubt about that. These projects of course we're started long before. In many cases, covert ever was even known about in this country and and in some cases, with the schools being out of session, kids have look to each FFA projects forced and things to do in two ways to continue to learn during the quarantine, and so they certainly want to be able to see those through and and reward those folks. For a lot of hard work, a lot of time and a lot of effort, so you bet you bet well. That's GONNA. Look like like you say we'll we'll. See here and in the next few days is all of this get sorted out? Well. We need to find out right now I. If that isn't big enough, what's the three big things? We need to know today, Andy. Looking at the Wadi de numbers as I, mentioned pretty quiet in terms of the market impact of the reports and specifics, US, corn outlook is little changed from last month with fractional increases to beginning and ending stocks, beginning stocks raised as a forty five million bushel reduction, an estimated production for last year's crop, largely offset by reduction and projected use of corn for. Far As soybeans go. Again they reduced last year's crop size. So beginning stocks are actually raised a little bit with higher crush for twenty nineteen, more than offsetting the lower production with the survey in North Dakota. However they also did lower exports by twenty five million bushels on increased competition from South America, and as far as wheat goes. They raised world wheat stocks, which has been putting a little pressure on that market. Surprisingly strong, the latest US need export numbers according to Dan Hallstrom President and CEO of the US Meat Export Federation for the month of April. All Things considered you know the the headwinds with covid nineteen globally as well as some of supply chain opportunities in late April that the results were fairly solid. Now he tells the big show of course..

Iowa St AD sees football games with 30,000 fans

"Meanwhile Michael and ask about the Iowa state athletic director who's telling cyclones fans that the football home games will be played at no more than fifty percent capacity down there Jack Trice stadium unless there's some kind of change in the state local health guidelines what's interesting that means no more than thirty thousand fans will be at the game at this point I think they were did twenty two thousand season tickets yeah and and I wish you a nice following the the bill to competitive team down there but H. bombs down there or what the score is actually pushing this state bustles down there John yeah I don't know if that's a huge structure I will speak to to start their you know because thirty thousand will get reckoned go a ton over that in their budgets right it's the first step but it's not like you get fifty thousand she in tickets sold there and there are you reducing them you measured twenty two thousand to thirty thousand a little bit different I DO picnic ERP I don't think they're doing anything that and they've already taken a pay cut with the cultures and trying to reduce costs and that everybody knows at this juncture probably that their in store for something like that go again the question is do you want to put it in for heart vascular do you there's there's no no real option I decked to doing that right now through the golfers there's no real set idea maybe making that I noticed that right now you can you can just wait and see how this thing plays out the first one that they tend to do something like that if you have featured a measure to social distancing and they have hundreds of thousands she still uses a little bit different for them but all the schools are trying to figure out different ways that to do it now you can go about doing it and it is the the golfers will fall in line I'm sure all of that but that's that's what you get into a major revenue crunchers that unavoidable budget cuts in your athletic department and the last one ironic lesson when it comes to football program because that is the most upset for that so you can make the most money she try to preserve as much as you can your football program but boy you know acting governor golf team last week right there with the get the the Firestone tracking everything else in their defense something's going on already they can't they they can't get past which was already in place so it's it's it's gonna be difficult more difficult for some schools and

Heavenly Sources Confirm Jesus Christ Will Transfer To Iowa State University After Getting Grades Up

"Journalistic enterprises like the ones. You just heard after this message from our sponsors who may or may not actually have something useful to settle you. There's only one way to find out our top story. Today comes from the heavens as a lesion authorities are reporting that Jesus Christ will be transferring to Iowa State University in the fall after getting his grades up. The once academically troubled son of God seems to have finally been able to rehabilitate his image and get his schoolwork up to snuff over the last year at Western Iowa Tech Community College. And he's now ready to move onto the next chapter of his education. We're joined by. Opr's afterlife correspondent thaddeus Lawson to unpack the big news. Hi Leslie good to be here that is. This has been a long journey full of ups and downs for the son of God trying to make the grades and to be Frank. Fixing some behavioral problems. So he could get into a state or private school right after graduating. Saint Peter's high school with a dismal one point three grade point average. A lackluster five eighty. Sat score and a disorderly conduct arrest drunkenly urinating on the streets of gold by his house. He couldn't get accepted into any of his preferred universities. That's what his father started. Pressuring him to enroll in community college to get back on track. That wasn't a quick fix. His father was hoping for either correct. I mean he failed the winter semester at tech last year because he blew off his business administration final to play call of duty right and then he started this spring semester. This year getting kicked out of his welding class when he welded several pipes into a satanic pentagram not to mention his outright refusal to stand his dyslexia medication. So most didn't think you'd get to this point so that was the catalyst well my sources. Tell me that the son of God did a lot of small things like making sure to always sit in the front row and show up to class with a pencil but the real wakeup call for him came in February when his best. Buddy nate overdosed on method an epic. Kager our Lord and Savior through. Yeah after he found nate lifeless in a ditch by the house Christ shared with six other roommates. He told those closest to him that he needed to sober up and stop wasting away life. The Lord finally sobering up is definitely a step in the right direction. A what was his final. Gpa and greats like for this semester although we got to ds and biology and computer science he did manage to get an a minus a nutrition and B. Minus in the history of rock and roll which pulled his GPA up to a two point eight. That's plenty good for Iowa state and what's The reaction from the Heavens God Almighty and all his heavenly hosts are simply ecstatic. They're all just happy. That Jesus Christ and his father are taking an early to Iowa state to purchase some. Isu Swag the bookstore. Instead of burying the son of God with a needle coming out of his arm I can't help but ask and no offense to Iowa state but why them and not more storied private school. I mean this is the son of God. We're talking about wouldn't have brown taken him as a legacy student now. It's my understanding that Jesus wanted to create his own path and had zero interest in following his father's footsteps by going to Brown plus he liked the reasonable out of state tuition Iowa state and their study abroad option in Australia and as an aspiring radio. Breaking Down Bracketology

"I do WanNa flip the page to Rica's point some teams. That have worked very hard to get to this point. We've got eleven teams. Charlie that have punched their ticket so far to go dancing any surprises for you in the ache you I think we have one out. West correct so In the last couple of days of the West Coast Conference Tournament Portland is your winner. And they will now go to the tournament. they upset didn't zag in the semifinals and they will catch a little bit of. Portland's game yesterday in the championship when I flew into Vegas and they're upset of of Gonzaga disrupted. That's the surprise. It's SORTA disrupted the bubble a little bit because when you when you take it to my Portland who was not going to make it as an at large but Gonzaga certainly is well now the WC goes from having one team in the field to two teams in the field. Well he can only still sixty four teams so someone has to come out of the field to accommodate Portland's entrance and that affects the at large teams on the bubble and in the case of my bracket that not Boston College. Back out of the field. Who just a day earlier had slid into the field because there was another loss by someone else so everything with this in the championship weeks at circumstances everything affects something else because it's a numbers game. It's a sixty fourteen field no matter how you slice it so going forward and these next few days. We've got some other tournaments that could affect that in the same way and I mentioned this going back a week or so ago that their watch out for the bids steelers because there are certain mid majors that we know we're going to be in the field. They've earned the right to be in. The field is at large teams if they don't also go in there if they don't go in AH automatic qualifiers by winning their tournament. Well then that's an extra team that we didn't account for and brackets and that's an extra team now that the committee has to put into the field. That's one less team that can make it from some of these bubble team. So yeah the the big upset so far has been in the West Coast Conference in Gonzaga. Not Winning it and we've got some more to look forward to. The MAC happens to be one of those tournaments where there's not going to be. Any fans will central Michigan won the league pretty decisively. This year is a top twenty. Rpi team and most assuredly will make the field but now that tournament played before no one could be one of those that affects how the bubble teams go to central Michigan. Does it also come on? Come out on top in the tournament So that's that's certainly one for fans to watch as we go forward and you're GONNA have to watch it on TV because you're not gonna be able to buy it you're watching on TV though you will hear my voice. I'm on the call on Saturday for the championship. And the more reason to tune in now on the game and you can't get into the arena so the ratings should be sky high. Now it's via going okay. So I want to over to the big twelve. Charlie would where I know actually had a chance to call some big twelve games this year and I know. Tcu In particular was a team that was really making a push. I believe there in the field as it stands right now but I was state actually Jones. Who's a certified buck gator? They upset Baylor over the weekend which was a huge deal. I did a double take when I got the alert. Baylor is bailer their legitimacy. It probably doesn't change anything for them. But what does it do for Iowa State? Well I always stayed. I had as a tendency leading into that game and and it pushed him to a nine. And what that does is it's security. It's cushion because of the ten seed. Maybe the committee views them a little differently. Not Quite not quite at that level so that he's talking about eleven seed. Well that's a vulnerable team to some of the upset potential. We just talked about so what that win for Iowa State. I think is put to rest any question that they'd be in the field although I think there was a big one anyway but it but it certainly nails it down and they no longer would have. I don't think any anxious moments watching the selection show on Monday Now it's just GonNa be a matter of where do they go? And whom do they play? But I think that's what did for for I would say for sure and it would what it did do for. Baylor though while not it's not gonNA knock him out of a one seed it. Does maybe raise some questions. I personally didn't think that there was anything to worry about with. Frankly there weren't a lot of flaws there but the big twelve not not one of the better leagues in the country this year of the power. Five Leagues I think it's probably fifth and they haven't been severely tested in a while and I always say certainly did that and the it might raise some question marks about Baylor going forward. I think they can answer any of those questions in the big twelve tournament because I was sneaking suspicion. They're going to come out with a little extra in that game and it could be ugly for the other. Big Twelve teams In the big twelve tournament but that said it does it. It shows little vulnerability that I didn't think Baylor had and that makes it a little more intrigued when we get to the tournament. Time itself I agree with you one hundred percent. I know look at the box. Were trying to figure out what the deal was. And nothing really was like crazy glaring. But I do think you're right. I know a ton of folks are going to be studying that tape to see what I was able to do right well that was able to watch some of that game and when I did was really slow the Temple. They hope to threes in the second half. They made more threes than they made. Twos in the game and the believer and it was and it was so slow paced and Baylor never found a rhythm that they they say clog everything inside the Lauren Cox had almost no room to move it. Kinda dared the Baylor shooters to shoot and they just had one of those games where they weren't making shots so maybe at least down a blueprint for some other teams as to how to at least approach Valer Ago You mentioned as an example Yukon being a number two seed and I know over the past few years you have seen to have had all these regional conferences in such a favorable area. I think at the Albany region that they mostly have been seated but this year they would be projected number two in the Portland region and I think as much as we talk about Yukon not being the same Yukon is as pass. There's still a very good basketball team. Won thirty nine. Oh in their conference over these last few years in the American and I think that having them with the possibility of travel really makes this team look a little different because they aren't the same team as years pass. Tell us a little bit about how that could affect their performance. Assuming they make the sweet sixteen you're right and Seven out of the last eight years. They've either played in Albany. Bridge for for Kingston Rhode Island. So they they have not had to get on an airplane until the final four in seven out of those those eight years. But let's let's be honest earned it ju- every one of those years with the possible exception of last year because they were the best team in the country in those years too so and when when cities bid for these regionals it just so happened that that all those years those particular low cows bid and got regionals to be able to host. And you can't happen to be close so this year. Those regionals are don't exist. There is no Albany. There is no Kingston. There is no bridgeport and no matter what was going to have to get on an airplane. And you're right. I think it will look a little bit. Different seeing a yukon in a faraway place. I don't think it's going to impact on the whole Locke. Though to be honest I think the people that are bothered by the possibility of uconn going West are the players and the coaching staff. Everything I've heard from them is like. Hey we'll bring it on. We'll play wherever we'll play whomever we'RE NOT THAT CONCERNED ABOUT. Gino's been been pretty adamantly over the years but this year when the subject's soon kinda shrug your shoulders. Look I you know. I don't have any control over it and we'll go play and it will do what we do and I think he said the other night after the the American championship game. We'll do what we do. I hope I think That's sort of the philosophy that they're gonNA take me. Maybe their fans aren't happy and maybe people who who look at the tournament and see certain things as they view them. Unfair that a team that is fifth overall. My take would be the one that has to travel. Based on the fact that other teams can can drive to the region. So we'll get into the reason why you would be going to Portland is very simply that The NC Double A. Would prefer as much as possible that teams that can drive rather than fly two games that they're gonNA play It's written right in the procedures principles of putting the bracket together that mode of transportation distance from campus. Things that they consider will this year Louisville can drive the Fort Wayne Regional? Nc State can drive to the Greenville regional. So if you assume that those are those are two of the other number number two seeds. Then they're going to be plotted in those regions and then the other one being Stanford and Stanford mashed up with Oregon would would also violate one of the principles of putting the bracket together and they They try to keep teams seeded on the top four lines from the same conference separate. So they're so they're in different regions. They wouldn't even meet until the final four now. In this case the fact twelve might have five teams in top sixteen making that impossible but in years past when that's happened the committee's not put one a one and a two. They've put fit when a four again. So it's highly highly unlikely that Oregon at Stanford Movie Place Together which only leaves one region left for Yukon to go to which is Portland matched up with. Oregon is the one in the two. So that's the why behind it and I think we talked about the the what or in the case of I think the Yukon players coaches the. So what I don't know that they that it matters to them very much but it does create an interesting conversation around how the tournament is bracketed. And some of these rules. That maybe fans aren't quite as aware of in the the head-scratching that I get from from fans and social media. Say Well if you cons five. They should be matched up with the number four overall team based on the curve. And that's Maryland so they should be going to Fort Wayne. Well we don't ever. The S curve is used to plot the teams in the tournament. But it's not used strictly to place them in these numerical matchups one in eight go together. Two and seven go together. It's never worked that way. It doesn't work that way in the men's tournament. The committee will try to do that as much as possible. That's the goal. But if you've got these graphical instances at hand as well then there there's other ways to balance the bracket and. That's I think what's going to happen. This year with

China Will Cut Tariffs In Half On $75 Billion Of U.S. Products

"We will begin with an update in the trade war war with China which has perhaps begun the official cooling off period China's government announced that it will reduce tariffs on more than seventeen hundred US products these cuts cuts will kick in a week from tomorrow. And that's the same day. American tariffs on some Chinese products are set to be reduced as well now. There was a time when this would be just just an incremental step in the phase one deal we might even noted in passing and get onto other things but context is key. Here as marketplace's Kimberly Adams reports this move comes. As China is grappling with the continuing fallout from the corona virus. The human cost of the outbreak is growing hundreds dead and tens of thousands sick when Don John Teaches economics at Iowa State University. He says the risk that China's economy might not grow as fast. This year has has markets questioning whether the virus will specifically impact China's ability to implement the US China face. One deal he said. That's part of the reason. China is reducing tariffs the stat. Bring some to certainty and shows China's willingness to continue to carry out the promises in in the face when deal the White House has expressed concern. China need to delay some parts of the deal like promised purchases of US agricultural products Joshua Meltzer services senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. He says those purchases had people scratching their heads even before the virus outbreak effectively. The deal required under under double purchases. And it's not clear how this is going to be done not just because there may not be enough market demand in China but also because us US farmers need to ramp up production. Matt slaughter is Dean of the Tuck School of business at Dartmouth that depends on just the investments they make in their seed and fertilizer closings. But the vagaries of the weather slaughter says whether China can stay on track with the phase one deal objectives will depend on just how bad the human and economic economic costs of the corona virus. TURN OUT TO BE IN WASHINGTON. I'm Kimberly Adams for marketplace.

An Atheist at the Iowa Caucus with Justin Scott

"We are now joined by Justin Scott the Iowa State Director for American Atheists Justin Welcome to. ATS nomads yeah. Thanks for having me. This is pretty awesome. So you're in Iowa right now I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing that means does it. At least you have a voice important thing. Yeah I'm listening to one of the PODCAST. I listen to is pod. Save America America and yeah. They're put political pundits with you know lots of campaign experience and all of that and the way they talk about Iowa I would. That's terrifying place to be right. How are you getting clamored by everybody? Not only that but now are twenty twenty legislative session as kicked off so you have you have the chaos of the presidential election but you also now have a Republican Republican trifecta down in Des Moines. Where we're only three days in and the assault on religious freedom and the assault halt on women's reproductive rights has already started? And so it's like you WanNa talk about a circus that that is the best this word I could use to describe. It dilluted Tutu for pretty much the line on a clown after another. Yep Yep all right so I'm sure that with your position as basically the representative of one of the largest atheist organizations in the country for for the state of Iowa. You're probably pretty busy. I try to be every day's different. Hopefully you've got other people working for you too. Yeah Yeah and that's the exciting part is that we have a great collection of both activists but also just regular islands. Is that really give crap. I don't know if I'm allowed to cuss on here but They they really I mean truthfully give a shit about their state they give a shit. Ah religious freedom to give a shit about women's rights and it's fun because you'll have people that have never done activism before all all of a sudden coming into our groups and coming onto facebook messages saying L.. Yeah look what I just did. Look what age. Yeah and it's truly inspiring because here in Iowa you don't need a title to go kick ass and I think that when I when I had the opportunity to talk about what what we're doing here that's what I really WanNa try to sell is. You don't have to have a title or any kind of experience to go out and do this stuff. I I mean that's that's the best part about all of this so for people who aren't paying attention to the news what's going on in Iowa right now. Shit Storm. Yeah yeah so. Basically you have a mix of people running to be the Democratic nominee For President you also have a sprinkling of a few Republicans you also have a few libertarians. I don't come across. Those is too often but essentially they are whoring themselves. I mean they are knocking on doors and they are trying to grab our attention. They're trying to get our vote February third we have what's called the caucus and during the caucus we get to stand in very awkward corners with awkward awkward groups of neighbors that we usually don't talk to and you know show our support for certain candidates. God we went to the Bernie Sanders one here and voicing voicing it was exactly that it was awkwardly standing around for like eight hours except realizing that it was all going to go to Hillary. Anyway this was actually most of Idaho's delegates went to Bernie but our caucus was had the distinction of being the largest caucus in the history of the United States. Oh Two thousand people. There was a line a mile long to get in. But don't you think that's great. Great I mean you hear so much you hear you hear so much about how US Americans don't give a shit about politics and yet you hear stories like that and it's like will will. I don't think that's true. I think we do care some of US yeah. It ended up being enough that the Democratic Party has moved onto primaries now share. That was twenty two thousand Person Caucus. That's done and I can see. I can see the advantages both sides. You know the biggest thing we're talking about here in Iowa is number one does does. The state of Iowa really represent the country. Let's be frank it doesn't it doesn't but as an Iowan like you think I'm going to be on the front line saying no. Please take this away from us and let some other state be number one. I mean that'd be stupid for me to say that right I mean politically. It makes sense but as an activist who's really built my name and my reputation on this circus uh-huh for any other better word. Oh keep it coming right. And the candidates are all trying to get as many people decide with them in the caucus as possible so that they can get some of the first pledged delegates absolutely and to try to build the so called thing of momentum. People argue that are some people argue that momentum doesn't exist what is it can you really is it. Tangible So yeah anyway just to kind of go back to make sure for the listeners. have no clue what this is literally you show up on on one night and you walk walk in and you make sure that you registered to vote and they say okay. You're let's say that the gymnasium at a school. They'll say okay. We'll find your corner and you'll just see various groups of people just kind of hanging out and if you don't mind me sharing in two thousand eight. I won't go as far as telling who I supported because I don't feel like that's relevant. I WANNA stay nonpartisan. Partisan I just WanNa Kinda laid out there but this was before I really tried to grab this caucus by the balls. Basically I I. I kind of had my foot in atheist activism but I was still kind of an activist in politics if you will I supported the candidate. That at many caucuses ended up not being viable and so this this viability threshold. They talk about is fifteen percent of how many people are there. You're right so if you're if you suck at math don't be a precinct. Captain off like math is not your strong suit. Just show up in support Fort Somebody and leave it at that. Let the smarter people in the room handle it but it was very awkward because I had what I thought was a good group of people you know now we had some young some old whatever and all of a sudden they said okay. Those of you that are not at fifteen percent you need to realign and I've not giving Out Too much but basically Barack Obama when they talk about he inspired of movement. I mean they're not kidding thing because it was like half the town was on the other side of the Gymnasia. God I just. I ran for city sitting there watching the each. Each county turned blue the epic. It was amazing and it was one of the greatest nights of politics. I've ever been a part of but anyway all of these people basically at that point you have three choices you can either get up and go somewhere else. You can be stubborn and kind of dig your heels in and say Nah This is my candidate. I'm staying here or you can just walk out and go home. I wish we'd walk out and gone home. And there's a part of me and there's a big part of me as a as a political local junkie that's like why would you WanNa do that like you've already invested. You know all this time and energy you probably got like an amazing parking spot like why would you wanna go home. Watch the

"Of your dreams and for thirty years they've been making it better rocket mortgage push button get mortgage I wanted to bring up Damian Williams the lead running back to the kids city chiefs question mark you've you furrowed your brow a little bit there but you say probably see I that's what I think I think he's the main guy I just don't know if we can trust said Andy Reid believe so we believe that he should be the main guy and that he will get main guy treatment in the match up against Tennessee what do you think well is really only receive main guy treatment once and that was in the playoffs you look it in the regular season he's never had more than thirteen carries for the Kansas City Chiefs or for any other team for that matter and so I think that's what's going to be the key for Williams as he does he get back to that pass catching role which hasn't really existed in the chief's office I don't know if it's because the Marcus Robinson stepped up and Michael Hardman has provided value is another wide receiver but you look there it's been just for weeks now since he's had even three catches in a game only once all season does he have more than three catches in a game now if he gets thirteen carries any catch just three passes he's probably going to be okay unless he rushes for two and a half yards per carry as he had been all of the season before is ninety one your Kerry I I think he's the flex at best I think he looked pretty good in in the chief's last game good lateral agility good job making defenders miss good job creating yards I think he's got a shot to regain some of that value that he was drafted as remember back in August we were drafting Damon Williams with the pick in round two round three round four if it was loud round two it was late in round two of it was round for was early around for I'd say somewhere between twenty second and thirty eighth overall I don't know if he's ever going to get to a point where he's going to be a top twelve fancy running back I can't say that that's going to be the case I'm not so sure is going to be a top twenty right back but I do think the chiefs are comfortable with him as their top running back he played over seventy percent of the snaps last week was shama quite in play pass the first quarter and he's been there leading ball carrier at least in terms of snaps leading snap getter among the running backs in five of seven games so I think that there is an opportunity for him to even be a low when number two fantasy running back and somebody who could help you out any could also be a bi lo candidate for a trade if you need a running back and you can get him on the cheap right now someone in your league is going to think I can sell higher Damian Williams yet a ninety one yard run the rest of his runs were crummy well he also had eleven yard run called back last week and I think he's got some potential and with patrimony center I think there's definitely a chance for Damian Williams to see some light boxes meaning safety's not crowded up on the line of scrimmage there is opportunity forum I like him as a number to running back but toward the low end and a cheap guy to get in trade let's answer some phone calls he if that's what we're here for we're taking your calls we're helping you win your.

come in and make sure he doesn't fall down to the last couple hours but I could keep you updated on everything going on all day tomorrow in the National Football League and then I'll do a little Shorty to our show after rack wraps up his eyes to beating get in tonight you can get in tomorrow I'll certainly be here get your NFL called in at a five five two one two four two two seven and three Canadian appalled by the way my you the poor games I like I told you I I think Arizona can beat Tampa out right I'm certainly going take the five points there not a five point game I like announced back by the pack got beat last week in Los Angeles by San Diego let down game for them maybe they even look past the charge a little bit I think they bounce back this we can get a victory at home I know the Panthers are pretty darn good football team and now there's no questions about who the quarterback going to be the rest of the year it's gonna be Alan cams down for the year I just think that the Packer defense after giving it up last week will bounce back in our ride is going to have a big day I decided to pack his win by touch down every five point favorites I take the pack at home tomorrow and the other game that I like I'm going both the winner and the total the ravens are a ten point choice on the road generally speaking we'll do this for level probably tell you never like double digits on the road I'm gonna lay double digits on a road tomorrow the ravens are going to crush the poor bangles the bangles are probably going to have the number one overall pick I dont ones I know got their first win last week doesn't mean they're going to get I'd you don't think they're getting on any kind of a winning streak here and a gentle pretty damn bad I think they're gonna lose a giant still could be a close game could be a fun game it's not gonna be a pretty game it's not going to be all my great football but it could be decided in the last minute which I will not give it least a reason to be watched or at least maybe maybe that's wishful thinking because I got to watch a game tomorrow but I don't know how many games the jets gonna win I think the Bengals can lose out I think you look in in in in sixteen de did the ravens hung at thirty seven spot on the dolphins what I know patriots last week the patriots who were there is starkly grey is deep I did it for you there's a low balling I told you that was lately overstated I went over on the ravens in patriots last week I'm going over on the ravens again right now their offense is clicking thank you both have the same thirty seven point against the bangles today did against the patriots and if that's the case then the bangles only need to get one touchdown because the over under number is forty four I think it's going all over angle to get ten points by accident and the ravens of get up poor job thirty seven maybe only thirty five that'll be enough goal over on the ravens and the bangles I'll take the ravens lay the ten say they won by two touchdowns and give me the pack as well those are my yep football picks for tomorrow we'll see how they play out Kevin from Alabama's up on the phones cab you're on CBS sports radio Hey I'm enjoying the show tonight thank you Sir but I know what you all of them again that was a fun game to watch today but I really I don't think it was as close as the score indicated Ellis you really really took it to all but I tell you what somebody what I haven't heard anyone say there were there were like six or seven receivers on out on the field today they're gonna be plan on Sundays and you know both had a great game to it definitely was down today but but I think the story was those receivers taken into defensive backs and and catching passes on scored points well all the credit take a bow here Pat myself on the back a little bit first or second week of the season and I Alabama ran it up on whoever they were playing and to a ton of a little guy but Alabama receivers would just running wild and wide open and making big plays in showing speed and I said like week to that the three Alabama starting wide receivers will all be gone in the first two rounds of the draft at maybe two in the first round and one in the second round but they'll all be gone by the second round and at that time I followed these mock draft and stuff like that yeah Judy have most guys had I'm going in the first half of the first round but not the other two right wide receivers not submit not right rags neither one of them had them as a highly drafted player and I thought they both would be so that doesn't surprise me a right delight you kids came up big too so I yes support teams that need wide receivers in the NFL I hope they add scout to present to today's game Alabama's gotta go back to the drawing board for other six touchdowns were big play they they had to rely on the big play just to stay in the game so I you know I don't put Alabama I don't put Alabama forth in this next for the couple and states for Alabama five in Georgia six Penn state had Alabama yeah yeah I mean Penn state lost at Minnesota Alabama lost at home I would be lost unless you are let's use great team right yeah yeah they lost to the team that was actually ahead of them whereas Penn state lost to a team that came in at number seventeen and I think Minnesota deserved to be higher than seventeen as updates we day will be higher than seventeen by a less than touchdown lost to a team that actually coming in ranked higher than you know I don't take Alabama's gonna drop as much as Penn state my crew Arkansas was up on CBS sports radio Hey join show tonight thank you my grade nine I'd but unfortunately mark insult band and a lot of questions for you and want to get your opinion on our next a coach because I I believe John Morse is gone unfortunately and so the top five I kinda have in mind right now is number one you know Mike nor bought meant this Mike leach hopefully ever Meyer but you knows let's see Gus bus goes with my head cut about coaching high school I was with the spring no voice and I hope you come back are all about highly doubt it and then either you freezer Blake Anderson I believe also that minister will probably jump really really high and Alabama state that it does when I hear your opinion on art okay did you know who I might favor would be if you told me you had a shot at all these guys and getting down to judge convincing him to take the job and you can get that done I like to let his coach yeah me too he's has marks all ties that recruiting special especially and he's been he's done really well Mrs size a consistent and we just need a guy to get their check them boys up you know we got we got a young team and I just really hope I really I really wish Bobby junior would stake is with that AJ Jefferson now and and Jones as as our quarterbacks believe a dejection what could have been a Heisman candidate Bob sure now what state we think about that that could be better than he has been don't know if I would list let them too Heisman type status that's not a bad job which I think it's going to be open at the end of each year the guys who are the top candidates who might be willing to leave their red present job coming off a big year doing good things are probably going to the UFC champ gonna be open the Florida state's going to be open so you need those to filter out first because if I'm more control you can name a wanted to wait you could shoot for the moon you can go over the top candidates you can try and fight against two more established programs championship level programs like USC like Florida state or you can just say well we're not going to get this guy that guy the other guy and we can set our sights a little bit lower and put more will push John if I'm Arkansas I'm I'm going to take a shot here I'm going to say that my job is good enough to give to to try and negotiate out a deal with the best candidates and if you lose out on somebody else because of that Hey add the shooting for the moon for me most times is not a bad way to go sometimes you get bitten the but by doing that but if I'm Arkansas I'm waiting for the USC Florida state job I think those are going to be the two biggest openings this offseason wait for them to shake out before you go get your guy Marty from Texas up on C. B. S. portrayal you'll Marty there are use wonders of all sports host like yourself for always showing him alone like I don't know warriors owners get mills points the reason is nobody bats on here as well it has nothing to do with the game that all you guys know that but you never mentioned it has absolutely nothing to do with who they think will win they want the same amount of money bet on both teams so they get their ten percent can't disagree you more can't possibly disagree with you more I understand there were a couple of teams Dallas Cowboys be one of them San Francisco used to be in that mix I wouldn't say that about them anymore patriots being another then old thirty other teams when you're talking about professional gamblers moving betting thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars per game they're going to bet on the game the day of the best feeling on may have the best information on they believe their most right on they don't care that it's the Arizona Cardinals and according to Marty in taxes nobody bats on them they're going to pay you the exact same dollars whether you bet on a mark T. team like the cowboys a marquee team like the breakers the pay out is exactly the same so on my degree with your damn job nobody bats on Arizona because their hours don't know who cares no all with that I think that the people are betting big box and move the line of the capability of moving lines will bet any game they just have to have the right information in a right feel about that game I agree but I just think that George said slow warring coming the person said no line doesn't care who wins again and he doesn't know what he's all he wants to do is get the same amount of bad on both well while I read only understand that and agree with you on that that's Vegas's job is to send a line the date think is going to get the money is evenly split as possible so they can take the big on a loser is is sometimes they're not right even though they're good and they usually said good lines at the end of the day you look at go wow there was great concern I was close to line now is because they don't go sixteen for sixteen did they make a great line on every single game there is three four five games every single week where the line isn't even close the outcome of the game doesn't resemble a line a little bit and it's your job if you're trying to pick winners to figure out what what did which shows games OR where had the biggest myths that the line in your opinion yeah well okay thank you better I appreciate it but I just it just seems like you all think that the guy showed me odd thanks they're going to win by there but he does no I I I understand that they it's a it's a gambling proposition that their job is to get even amounts of money bet on both sides I a readily understand it and agree with your point but they don't get it right every single week not every single line that every single game comes down to within a point point I have to point to where the line was at before the game is so your job if that your job if you dance with you trying to do you take it upon yourself to try and pick the winners make some money every week is to figure out the game where you think Vegas is off a little bit Dayton day ms set the line that they're giving one team too much credit or not given another team enough credit coming into a game I think the the Arizona Cardinals have proven it's not a couple of games now it's half a season they play a very good team they can hang they eventually lose they played team as bad as they are worse than they are in by the way Campbell's got a worse record than Arizona dies they find a way.

"Are less next week of Friday night showed the coliseum for packed off south supremacy game Friday night game exactly short week everything else that goes into it but from a non conference Game Amy Non Conference game that's been on schedule since nineteen seventy seven and one of the longest rivalries in the Mid West Side Hawk showdown where it's Iowa two and a Half Point Road Rhode favorites in aims to take on the cyclones in total in this game forty four and a half the in state rivalry all the way back to eighteen ninety four when the cyclones won the first game sixty eight. Maybe that's harbinger of things to come in. This particular Game Hawkeye's on the all time series record forty four twenty two in ride a four game winning streak. Iowa state last victory against Iowa came back in two thousand fourteen in they want twenty seventeen. Let's start with the number here kind of work. In reverse. I stayed actually opened a short favorite. We've seen the number cross zero of the price. When I did touch three we saw money on Iowa state. What do you make align move. And how much is that in insisted with the numbers that you would have forecast before this thing opened up so initially made it. Iowa like minus one point eight I believe and you are right. It's kind of cross through zero obviously not as much value when you're crossing through that zero so it's not this full extent of move that we anticipate but at three there was some very sharp cyclone money that hit the market so that's now we're we're back down to that two and a half to range range. It'll be interesting to see work goes from here. I think obviously oddsmakers at this point now that I was state as favourite might not be the right number and I think they realized that at three they're going to get hit with sharp money on the cyclone so could see situation where potentially we're sitting here at two two and a half for the rest of the week. Let's start this discussion. A one of two replaces we can either go with your man crush head coach Matt Campbell whose at an extra week to prepare the Teigen Kirk Fahrenson the Iowa Hawkeyes or we can focus on the quarterback position where Nathan Stanley only has looked every bit the part of a prospect against inferior opponents to kick things off meanwhile brock party on the other side didn't show his full rave skills in the season opener against you and I and pretty much alluded to the fact that hey that was by design wasn't out there to run and try and let the panthers before one of the biggest games conference scheduled so you lettuce us where we probably should start and that's the cyclones offense and I know I saw the notes you WanNa talk about the bi week. We talked a little bit about it before. We started recording. I think macro acro level. I don't think any coach wants a week to buy after an FCS opponent and that's that's no slight on Northern Illinois. I think we'd actually make them a favourite over a bunch of off. FBI teams on a neutral field Canada to paint that picture you know like we'd have them favored over Hawaii so and wasn't northern Illinois wasn't this. I don't know they're not terrible no slouch but I think you'd rather have your your schedule spaced out. We're not playing eleven straight games micro level though I think you've hit this probably on the head in terms of preparing for a singular rivalry game. It definitely helps and you touched on this again. My understanding is I would would expect a few more wrinkles from cyclones offense right the scoreboard. I think was a little deceiving in the opener. I O state outgained. You fight by over two hundred yards. You have defensive score you give up the fumble you miss a field goal the concerning thing and I think we've talked about it multiple notable times when breaking down. Iowa's offenses without Butler without Montgomery now they've kind of moved onto the NFL where the big explosive plays going to come from and that is the the big question here because we know Iowa shuts down explosive place. They keep everything in front. I was stayed only had two explosive plays against an EU of twenty twenty or more yards not very good coming into the season. I know we talked about this on the preview podcast the Iowa state. OC Todd Manning publicly said in was adamant about implementing more designed runs for Brock Party. There was only one designed run in the NFL game came late in that critical stretch where they're coming from behind. It got called back for a holding penalty. Believe purdy had a seven yarder that came from a broken play as well but the point is. I think we just see more of that. Implemented it into a game like this and put it on film now. You've had the bye week. They're gonNA show Iowa something. That's a little different when you look at Iowa's defense only only return for starters from a season ago. I think there's some question marks about their depth. I like the three headed back that we've seen from. Iowa state those three guys. I seem to be pretty good. You have laying crony junior and breese hall. It's probably smart to use all those guys I will last year. Though fifty I in adjusted line yards one hundred eleven of and stuff for eight hundred and fifth in power run defense tells me you can get them on the ground a little bit so I like the idea of this added element hopefully that we're projecting think break up property using his feet one thing I do WANNA why haven't run to take the cycle on I think the verdict might still still be out on purdy in terms of what he looks like against good defenses and we touched on this again I believe on the big twelve preview podcast aw parties nine starts last season he faced an FCS opponent and eight other Division One defenses that averaged seventy second in defensive sufficiency and in those two games our face defenses inside the top sixteen defense efficient that was Texas Washington state. I would say lost. Both those Games party only completed fifty six percent of his passes had three interceptions zero touchdowns this to me because party didn't face. I will last year so based on our projections this. This is the stiffest test parties face so far in his two seasons so it'll be interesting to see how he looks here. I do like them as a quarterback. No doubt about it and is mobile is accurate has the arm strength but again by far the toughest test that he's facing college career so far and he hasn't done overly well when the defenses are a little bit tougher and you mentioned disruption on the defensive side and some of the previous games we broken down. Iowa despite taking on Miami of Ohio in Rucker only two sacks so far this season and a grand total of four tackles for loss so that should welfare Iowa state if they can keep moving forward and setups unmanageable third downs look on the other side of this offense against the Iowa State Defense Nathan Stanley is shown flashes of being that pro style quarterback that a lot of Iowa fans wanted to be they've ACLU had changed their identity a team that utilize ton of two tight end sets. NFL caliber guys in no offense TJ Hopkinson last season through the first two games Iowa using a lot more wide receiver lever and they kind of say look that's by design. We're GONNA utilize the talent that we have around when I look at this. Iowa state led by Ray Lema. Can they control the line scrimmage something that I would typically doesn't have to encounter when they go up against you know middle of the pack big ten opponents. That's the match up on this side of the ball. I think it's all about transplant you got. I was offensive line there there led by tackle tristen wharfs in center Tyler Lindor bomb. Both of those guys have been installers on the offensive line. They've been fantastic since the start of the season against rutgers last week those two guys combined only gave up one pressure on thirty six. Nathan Stanley dropbox and and then you mentioned on the other side of the ball it was evident coming into the season right the cyclones had one of the best front sevens in the country led by The aforementioned Ray Lima's is Hewlett to their. That's that's the battle here and you look at Iowa state. They start the season. Give up thirty four rushing yards on thirty one carries in the opener. We know that's that's the. Mo of the cyclones defense will win on first down for sure opponent into these sacking in third and longs situations cyclones were fifth best defense in the country last year. They only allowed four point five yards per plan I down. It's a really balanced defense. It really is they can get pressure with the front seven. They tackle pretty well. they clog rush lanes. They don't give up explosive plays. There were twenty fifth in the country in that a year ago. Obviously they've only played one game to this point against an. FCS opponent did pretty well in that regard. They were top thirty five in Sacree. They choke out the ground game. It's a very versatile imbalanced defense for Iowa state now. Look at this a little bit. I think we find out what I was offense. Really is here obviously pretty good showings against Miami Ohio and rutgers to defenses though that we project to finish just inside the top ninety inefficiency inefficiency so nate Stanley's done what he supposed to do completed nearly sixty four percent of his passes over that to game sample. It's five percent better than a season-long average. It's last season and I think it's really impressive is he's taking deeper shots too so through two games averaging ten and a half yards per attempt adjusted for opponent that combination so so far leads us to believe that there's an increase in production coming because the completion percentage has risen as he's taking deeper shots down the field but again now you face the cyclones. Oakland's defense will find out what what life without Noah Fanton. TJ Hopkinson is really like because if Stanley can't continue to be hot you you know hitting receivers on the outside. What's the fallback plan now this year. You don't have a leak tight ends anymore. They're serious questions about the ground game as well. we outlined nat on the big ten podcast. You know this is an Iowa team that oddly when you think about their makeup should be this. They run so much right. You'd think this offensive line just a bunch of road-graders knocking guys out of the way and wasn't the case last season forty one percent rushing success rate on four hundred sixty eight carries Harry's eighty four th in the country. They're ninth worsened overall rushing efficiency so if you don't have your tight ends to go to in the ground games choked out were now just relying on Nate Stanley. I'm Lee playing outside. The Hash marks to some of his receivers. I think they're improved a little bit on the outside but is that enough here. I think we're gonNA find out just so much about both these teams in what their offense is truly look like in this game should be a fascinating game to watch. I know it's a robbery. The probably doesn't get enough credit nationally but being close to some Iowa Coloma's of folks that bleed the black and gold for Hawkeye football talk about how important assist for state bragging rights knowing the state there is no professional team whatsoever and when you look look at some of the ticket prices to get into Trey stadium that one of the bigger venues in the big twelve two hundred box will barely get you in the building so a lot of expectations for both these teams before insulin game this weekend by the way I was going to say that when you look at the schedule clearly this is a game that should add a little bit of bad blood that you're gonNA throwback feel to it I would think dominated potentially usually by both defensive lines in I'm not gonna see it's three yards and a cloud of dust but let's just say emphasis should be placed that being efficient facade and avoiding the costly turnover instead of some of these shootouts like you would see in what's zone at Texas Tech with you over under seventy seven a little bit different dynamic when the total set at forty four vinyl games stay total. Oh by the way don't tell me that gone off. Sorry I watch my language here. It is a show made for families families so to speak all right final game on the docket. Virginia playing host to the Florida State seminoles number on this game sees Virginia seven and a half point favorite Toni You're paying fifty five and a half fifty six and a half depending on where you shop first meeting between these two program since two thousand fourteen Florida state last weekend they follow up their second half dot against Boise state they dominant and I mean dominant victory against the college football juggernaut known as the Louisiana Monroe walks eating missed field. Goal mixed fueled the extra point in overtime for being smart as he get the outright victory. Would we WANNA say about Florida State Aldo matchup at this weekend against the fighting Bronco mendenhall embrace perkins let me kind of completely rattled by that total by the way completely lately rattle. This doesn't need like this massive breakdown of both sides of the ball. I think when we look look at the F. Issue Offense Kendall brawls. He comes out of the gates with fantastic game plans. You Look Twenty four points in nineteen minutes. It's against Boise sixty three percent of first-quarter snaps against Monroe grades successful as a whole. F- issue was an offense..

"Oh my god that varies from the top of thrill in des moines iowa centerpoint martine powers today the iowa state fair the time honored tradition pelvis about the race for the democratic nomination right now it is nine a._m. We're here in the middle of the iowa state. Fair and things are just starting to get going places are opening up and return and get breakfast and we're going to have a i'm going to have corn doug and breakfast mm-hmm book while seven or you can have the five dollar one we'd sow pork shanks we sell kool-aid and in south central lines waffle fries and everything brad freckles yeah so we just got here and we are looking for holly bailey political reporter for the post and she's been here since the beginning of the fair falling around with candidates tried trying to talk to them and talking to voters and so what i want to know from her is what is it like being here and what you learn from the iowa state bear. So how have you been good. I've been here for since the day. The fair opened <hes>. It's it's now slowed down on a lot so this. This is not your first time at that. I was you know no it is not. I've been covering the iowa fair since two thousand seven so i'm here. I've been here every year since then. Wow so when you hear. What are you trying to get when you come to iowa state fair is it about like seeing how the candidates are navigating the speiss and and how they're finding away to like have a human moment with voters whereas more about talking to voters and seeing what they are thinking how they're feeling or what are you trying to get. I think it's a combination of both i mean just to step back. Iowa is a state of three million people and a million people or more come to the fair every year. It's a huge huge event. <hes> and i think people think everyone in iowa sort of lining up to go to political events and that's not true you do get a large segment of people who come to the fair who are politically savvy the haven't necessarily seen on the candidates and they're seeing them for the first time so you do when i talk to people and sort of gauge what they're thinking about the race especially this year when there have been so so many candidates state fair oh you know we're entering the final few months before the caucuses and the i was a fair is kind of this political tradition where it divides up the month before where people are sort sort of getting their ground operation together around the fair and then into labor day is when you start seeing the sprint when you see people start spending even more time here you know so obviously i'm always curious about the human moments because this is a chance to see these candidates close and how do they interact with people but i you know one of the things i wanted to see. Here is just sorta. Get a better idea of what the ground game was like here for these candidates like how many volunteers do they have. What is the enthusiasm and so for example on the first day. Joe biden was here and amihai people out with clipboards and they were all these kids and you know when people would come up to them. You know the volunteer would say i just moved here from delaware so that's one hint of who is staffing joe uh-huh biden's campaign here but then you know people get griping because they didn't have stickers or signs or that sort of thing and i overheard the staff saying we'll go to <unk> website you can buy them there and that did not go down well with this little being here is for us to get stickers came out shit stickers. They had for more people with clipboards sort of around taking names elizabeth warren arrived here with fans that she handed out to people which is very important on an eighty five degree day where people are sweltering altering and the heat and then bernie sanders came out and his volunteers talk t shirts and you just sort of get little hints like that i mean it's not like you can immediately say. This is the defining example of what the ground game is here but it is a good chance to sort of get some insight into what's going on here. <hes> i'm thinking behind yeah six months five six six months before people actually start to vote on the soapbox. I'm so excited to be here and thrilled and i just wanna thank everyone here because this is one of the great american traditions. Tell me about this soapbox speeches. Is it a literal soapbox that people are standing on it used to be a little soapbox soapbox and then it's gotten much more elaborate over the years. Now it is a full on stage surrounded by hairballs and this is something every candidate does every candidate their ivory. Three kids invited not every candidate. Does donald trump didn't do it. In two thousand sixteen or twenty fifteen hillary clinton didn't do it. They both cited security issues but <hes> this year almost everybody did and you get twenty minutes to give us some speech and take some questions from the audience and sometimes it is like a candidates candidates regular stump speech but sometimes they kinda mix it up a bit by the time i graduated from high school. My family didn't have the money for college application shen much less to send me off to four years university elizabeth warren. She talked about her background growing up in oklahoma and you know the struggles that sort of defined her early life in the way. That's defined her run for president but everybody's been sort of out unveiling rural policy plans in recent days instead. They've taken advantage to just sort of pitch that we have a plan to help. Grow jobs grow population <hes> and help grow infrastructure. That's gonna make sure rural america can actually succeed going forward one of the things that was interesting about this week is that seemed like the question does your from the reporters and then sometimes from people from average iowans was asking about guns and one of the things that i was curious about how the fairwood go this year that's come after several tragedies of mass shootings that have been really emotional offer the country and an emotional debate and i wondered how that might shape how candidates behaved at the fair this year i come. I'm from a very rural state like iowa and god knows how many people in my state owned guns into hunting but like every other person in this country they are repelled an appalled by what what they have seen people have vermont people rural america. People of urban america gone on long gun owners want gun safety legislation. I feel like the idea that all of these candidates show up here. Try to meet like regular. Iowans feels really weird in some ways because there aren't aren't that many spaces where people are actually like politically persuaded in real time you know that people have their ideas of who they're voting for what they're voting on and it. It seems like a lot of people are really open minded. Did you feel like you talk to anyone who changed the way that they felt about candidates just from their interactions here arthur fair well. I think there are a lot of people for example pizza to judge arrived at the fair and i think you know one of the things that has been sort of their perception about him is that he's this very smart. Super intellectual guy and you know he's been sort of off the troll raising money to sort of get ready for this this next these next several months and so even though he's been here he hasn't been here as much as the other candidates and so. I noticed you know some things that his campaign did like he rode a shuttle bus here here instead of driving like an s._u._v. like many of the other candidates did and on that bus he talked to all these people and it happened to be these farmers. Who were you know coming into the town. I go to the fair that day. That makes an impression on people was that will i write what i can't say no to that of course all right the slide with your son doc. I don't know what it means but but i will do it. Thank you ma'am. He wrote the slide and <hes> you know he's not the first thing he did in his the rest of his staff went right down behind him and there are people behind me going. Oh my god that's mayor earpiece and you know people asking who back i mayor pete. I think one of the reasons he was doing that. Sorta the counter this narrative the hugest the smart guy who isn't maybe like a normal guy like the rest of us the images of that you know the people impressions of people walking around and saying i saw that guy i think people discounted but that's a really big deal here. It's a really big deal. We.
