"Now. All butler tried, man. But Mueller came to survive. He came to survive. He didn't try to win. He came to survive. And it looked like he almost was going to survive the monster. And anyway, turned it up on him, and it was over as fast as it started. Ten rounds, ten rounds against inouye is a valiant effort. He got his paycheck lost his belt, but in a way, it's a different beast and now he's going to vacate all the titles at one 18. Maybe butler could fight for his belt back against someone else who isn't this guy. And that's when you're looking at butler, he's probably like, yo, I'm going to lose this. If I take less damage, I'm still number one contender, maybe I'm just going to get my belt back. If he cleans my clock, then I got a problem here. So you look at got to make a business decision sometimes and the way way too good at that weight. At one 22, we'll see what he is. And if he can really get tested there, does the power travel? Is it chocolate Cheetos? Number one case of this, right? You went to this 5 years ago. Guys number one, number two number three in the world. Pound for pound. No one's arguing. They top three something pound for pound. He could win. He moved up and really couldn't handle. So now this is what we see we're in a way. 29, this was a tougher weight cut than ever, so his body is ready to move up. One 22 is a whole different weight class. Whole different level of town. Yeah. Yeah, I don't think I have those problems with chocolate Tito head. Chocolate to those volume puncher. That's the first issue. He moved up, fought soaring Visa and he just wasn't, didn't have the power to overwhelm him. He's also a foot forward fighter, which means he blocks a lot of punches with his face. And that shit can't work when you move up and wait. You know why is a very skilled, heavy handed fighter? I don't think he's going to have any problems at one 22. Obviously the fight to make it Stephen Fulton junior, I just don't see that shit happening any time in the near future. I see NOI going out there trying to collect every other building. Probably, probably, but if you look at NYU, it is size. I think we'll see him at 26. I think he'll continue to move up. 30 might be his cap, but right now I have him as the number two pound for pound fighter in the world. Because he is wrecking people. He's a scary, scary fighter, passes the eye test, and then he just goes out there and his opponent is just fold. Yeah, don't try to give him a hard time in their first fight. Then he beat the shit out of no needle down there. For his troubles, he was like, are you motherfucker? You took me to the distance that would make you pay. Ain't too many built like the monster and the monster is going to be in for a hell of a 2023. We'll see, hopefully the full fight gets made because I think it's an excellent fight because Fulton's a tremendous fighter. But I don't see anybody dealing with any white power. No, no, they're going to stay away. Stay away as long as they can. Yeah, there's no reason to make that fight right now, especially in a way, it's 29. Fulton is super young. I don't see how he been looking at that. Be like, yeah, let's do this right now. He'd let it build out. But in the meantime, we saw a guy like Mick conlin looked great. And his fight in 22, and then he almost won the title earlier this year, which is still my fight of the year. And Colin obviously got knocked out in a fight. But it was still like one of those things in a way can come up and fight those guys. And they came in the belt. He becomes number one contender for whatever saying she can buy he wants. Out the gate. Yeah. So if him and top rank are smart, they go, well, we're going to force the hand of whatever champion we can in a different promotion. Yeah. Because we have no problem. So he's going to have zero problems. Adjusting to one 22. You haven't met at number two in the world behind. Okay, good. We're on the same page. I just wanted to be prepared. Yeah. Who's the number one fighter in the world? I'm sorry, guys. You got here's thinking Terrence Crawford's the best? I can't do it. I can't. Not until you fight spins. Yeah, it's because I understand Terrence Crawford, my argument for people who make Terrence Crawford won. I was like, I get it. Because he hasn't had a close fight. He's never been tested that close ones. Like people would push people to the brink and you got to battle through and face adversity. Crawford hasn't had a close fight. Dismantle everyone. He's that much better than people. So if you want to put him number one because of that, I get it. Even had some trouble when he first got to heavyweight. Now he's filled out. I don't think he has any trouble against any of the guys. So it's one of those things where, yeah, man. Usage still my number one. And I don't see it moving from that. If he beats fury for any reason. Yeah. He was retiring. His number one pound for pound. He's on touch. If he beats, if he beats fury he's untouchable. If you beat

"I believe so during the quadrant 5 was a little more I wanted to stay in the pocket and really, really make my pick up that title, but I had to be a lot more smarter with wrong besides. So we've been working on that game plan and we're ready to go out there and execute it. Is there going to be a part of you tempted to bang with them a little bit to see what he's got in there to see what this heavy handed guy has got at one 15? I already know he's heavy handed so I don't have to go and test it out. I'm gonna be smart the whole 12 rounds. That's who we worked on and Robert would get after me if I did something like that. So I don't want to piss Robert off. He'll get after you. We'll be able to hear it on the broadcast. The entire time. He's not shy and we're quiet in that corner. You've got a lot to accomplish at one 15. You just got to one 15, but you're only what 22 years old at this point. You're still growing into your body. As you look at your future, how big do you think you can get? How high in weight do you think you can go? Eventually, I think, at the end of my career, probably one 26 or one 30. Really that high. Yeah. I mean, you look around those divisions, like they've become the cool divisions now. You look at inouye donaire with such a massive fight at one 18. Stephen Fulton may be against the winner of akman Daly of Ronnie Rios. That's a big fight. Do you look around at these other divisions? This could be cooled down the line? Yeah, of course, you know, there's a lot of big fights to be made down the line and to be a part of it. It would be, it would just be the cherry on top of my career, I'll be on my way out at that point..

Someone recently nothing really changes look is horrible and i say you know what harvey which is jail. That's a huge change isn't jam. This is someone who hollywood for twenty five years. I mean rule like a king. This is really the thing And so there has been changed. That may to mit was shocking. Especially how fast. I said someone being was the same you know from like eve until ten minutes ago. Gay rights woman. I was never that people are always kit coming up until he thinking sanctioning friend. Thank you for fighting so hard for gay marriage. I never heard of getting marriage that it was not as thought ever came into my head. I'd never heard of it. No one when i was young. This idea that exist. It never occurred to me that this book to examples that. I'm not saying that yet. Feminism old equality leeann facility however you wanna time it but do you think you'll too cynical. No i think it's a really appreciate a pricey thing that it worked at tell i think in other words. Even though i turned out to be wrong. I still feel i was right. I don't think that all the progress of gay rights which. I'm well aware that perhaps you're supposed to call him gay anymore. We're ever supposed to call and tell me what you want me to call a call that i don't keep up with the every single second That in retrospect you know maybe was a more likely to happen because it can happen to anyone by which in any family could have someone letting for gay and show i. I never really thought about that before. Too perhaps But it should astonishing to me. I mean it's show succeeded that even the right wing you know People stop talking. They they know they lost. We're still fighting confederate war. The i mean the civil war you know that they're not willing to give up you know but this instead probably mostly can you imagine have marred. No no the first thing. When i first started making marriage. I thought i'd be like i actually thought it was horrible. I did who wants to be street. People to me seemed like a kind of a movement to free the masters you know. "Gonna do you wrong out of the gate. You just have to pay more attention. I mean look part of this game is putting titles in the environment and sort of you know basically being like. Don't talk to that guy or don't go in this event but then there is also outside of the narrative based stuff. There is sort of like quality of life advice. The will sort of say to you and be like hey. Don't play this game like you're never going to be here again. 'cause you will you'll have the opportunity to to see this area again and that's the key the cool thing. Is that the game. E every map that you visit in this game is is gated in a sort of you know way that you wouldn't need to explore a certain area until you realize oh i didn't realize there is this thing in this area i can now explore this and it makes sense and meshes along with the with the kind of like structuring. That they're trying to lay out for you. It is it it does feel experimental in a really kind of satisfying way Especially if you are just looking for something that's just fucking different and new. Like i do i do. I am able to scratch that ish with this game for sure. And i think that's probably the biggest reason why i like it so much and it's weird funky world. It's it's it's it's a strange place that they've created for sure. Do they give you like the you know. You're going after these targets. The visionaries like do they do a good job of setting up who these people are why they matter or or like do they give them enough personality to where you feel like you mentioned. Kill bill and the thing i keep thinking about is like all of those targets had a thing and fleshed it out a little bit and made and you know through various degrees but like do they make these characters feel human in a way that makes them feel like fully fleshed out or is it just like i'm the sword man. I'm double gun like per. Yeah right just you know. Do they feel like they have like meaningful personalities so without flirting too much with what they don't wanna talk about a talking. About part of understanding everything is going through the The sort of linear aspect of of what. This game is an as you do that. I think a lot of those answers. Those questions get answered. So so i have not felt a deep sense of absence with that kind of exposition But but you know people will play this game in different ways so You know in my for the first five hour playthrough that i did i failed a mission that the game was very much like do this do it do it do it right now. And you're just like all right. Well i'm trying to review this game so stop talking to me like that game. I need to play this thing and get to this spot so okay so we have another visitor again. We're talking about death. Poop and i'd say tapes in-depth poop. Yeah i think like. I wish i did that thing. Having gone back and did that again and realize like oh. This is what you know you you need to. Please don't push that was here but thank you so i wish i wish i got to that part and having gone back i realized why that game push me in that direction and then you realize like oh you can. It unlocks a thing that changes the play for you. But you don't have to do there. Is that sort of freedom there for sure. Oh that's pretty neat south a couple of weeks. I love gain stuff so surprise. It's still coming out this year. crime. Now i mean. I don't know what i'll say this like inouye. Did i get to the point where i was like. Oh this needed more time. Do you know what i mean like. I didn't get that five and that gives me a lot of Sort of conflict urging yeah definitely encouraging for sure. But but i but. I'm absolutely digging it and i can't wait to i. I'm i'm also not at the point where i can even even wrap my head around what the end of this thing is going to be like. So that's cool too. you know. Nice what else they had that. Call of duty beta over the weekend. I briefly looked at that thing. It was their new mode that they've been Loosely promoting as part of the big reveal of all their different stuff called. I believe champion hill. And it's like it's like a two two mode with multiple teams to basically so it's like to be to team death match. That is set. So it's it's a it's a map. Where they hub in the middle where occasionally all players will be there to make purchases like a counterstrike match or something really. Oh or like war zone or something. I'm going to run station going to buy a gun. I'm going to buy this perk. I'm gonna buy some additional armor. Whatever and you don't you don't fight in that zone. And then a timer will pick down and it will take basically The list of teams seven teams however many teams. It is Say the Somewhere in the neighborhood of of saturday somewhere in that zone it will take two teams matched them up and say okay go fight and all the teams go off into different spokes of the map. Where you've got like here's what area they don't really intermingle. You're just like oh. Here's these smaller areas where you can have these two two fights and you have a certain number of responds before your team is eliminated you can earn them by taking them for other players from other teams that sort of stuff and so you just kind of fight for a while and then whatever happens happens you lose lives you gain lives and whatever and then you off to the next round and then you're either spawned into another area against the different team or sometimes you'll end up with another by round retake the money earned by playing and go back in and and spend your your money on on upgrades and that.

Now on this country around reparations. But and i know when pe- knowing you say but that you disconnect everything that you said before which he just said before the but i'm not doing now not discounting that but i am asking this question. There are many of those within the sierra club but typically on while different ranks. Who have rebelled against this kind of Racial justice is climate justice. Climate justice is racial justice. Kind of positioning that's is going there's been some rebelling there's been folks who've been listening attacking the new Share club president ramon invincible. Yeah i'm ultra instead it's perfect. It's not easy but at the same time what hap- bad that inouye compares to what these communities are being attacked by these corporations in these communities like you know no way is this what happens to us compare to what's going on with folks. "There's kind of an equivalence. Here the moslems commit terrorism and the jews commit terrorism. It's a bunch of crazies on both sides and while what goes into was totally unforgivable and morally reprehensible. It's important to understand that to be honest. That goldstein inouye represented the position of israeli government. Had he survived the attack. He would have been convicted but he's killed his killed by the people in the tomb but it's just important to not allow that moral equivalency to go completely derailed arafat was allowing hamas and his own fatah to carry out these terrorist bombings. The israeli government obviously had no hand in mubarak. Goldstein did but it's clear that the region is a tinderbox and israel is also a tinderbox because in light of the rising terrorism and in light of the increasing vitriol especially on the part of israel's right there is a real sense in israel that this is getting out of hand we are talking about each other in ways that we should not be talking about each other and we are talking about each other as being traitors when you call somebody a traitor. You're doing something very dangerous. In jewish law the term road. They've which means trader pursuer or something the punishment for that is death and therefore the vitriol. That was taking over. Israel was really really all consuming and talk. Robbing who is the prime minister there contributes to it in a small way. He actually says at a certain point. I can't be the prime minister of everybody. I promise certain people that i wasn't gonna pull out of this area. But what am i going to do. I can't represent everybody. And he kind of shrug that enrages people and as we all know tragically at the beginning of november nineteen ninety-five. It's robbing leaving. A huge peace rally in aviv is killed by amir assassinated the first real major political assassination in israel's history once it became a state thankfully so far the only one but that of course sets the country completely makes the country completely beside itself for those of you who've seen videos and you can find them on youtube israeli youth. Teenagers people in their twenties lit candles across the country by the tens of thousands. Something about what yigal amir had done shocked israel back to its senses and people wonder have. We really started to come completely apart. We really that unglued. Do we really hate each other. That much over the question of how and whether to make peace with the palestinians wwl kill our prime ministers and of course. This isn't any old prime minister. This is robin who had liberated jerusalem in nineteen forty eight. This is yes hut robbing. Who had been in the palmar in the pre-state era. This was hot robin. Who was the person who was shaking yasser. Arafat's hand on the white house long in nineteen ninety-three there's was a person of gigantic status in israel and a law student pumps bullets interim and he dies a very short while later in the hospital there..

"He doesn't know if he's going to have an nfl career. He's told to play with a lot of emotion. He's told to play with that energy with that. Fierceness with that tenacity. And then he gets flagged for showing a little bit promotion. he doesn't get flagged for swearing at him now. We don't know score autumn. We don't know if he called him a derogatory term. We don't know if he insulted him by nfl standards. We don't know if he was using abusive language. We don't know if he was threatening. We don't know if he was using insulting language or we don't know if he gesturing to the opponent to teammates to officials or to other league representatives. We don't know if he was using bathing or talking acts or words that would endanger the ill-will between teams. We don't know that from the video. We all saw that surface on social media the past couple of days. It seems like a running back was hidden the whole he. You know you didn't wanna bring brought down. He gained an extra five ten yards. He got the first down. He spiked the ball. He throws it around and he didn't seem like he was being a menace on the field. He didn't seem like he was using abusive threatening or insulting language. it didn't seem like he was taunting the person he just seemed like. He was excited to play an excited to be successful. Nola the through the flag on now. We don't know we don't know if he was the only people who do with people on the field specifically the running back the defender who tried to bring him down on the ground and the official. So i just have to beg the question. Why are you giving these officials. Subjective calls you should not the nfl should not be giving these officials who are part time workers who are not full-time workers who are not super professionals. Who are not the experts. You're giving them subjective calls on what they believe. Why would you let the official impact the game that nuts. We've already seen the subject of callers that they already have their trading with just basically no class and they're not suitable for calling the most objective called pass interference. The game has we don't see it now if they were able to get these calls right if they weren't mistaken if they weren't making so many mistakes during all these games then yeah i could see them giving more of a leash but it just doesn't make sense to me. It doesn't make sense that you are giving these people these referees more power than they deserve now. We learned about this message from the league being more aggressive with the cold with the caused last week and the just days later just days later in the first weekend of full slate of preseason games we saw arguably one of the most agree gis in terrible taunting calls inouye. That should have been called. I'm saying right now. That call was bogus and a lot of people around the league are saying that jeffs war to say that a lot of players around the league or saint in even the running back. Benny lemay said it to that. Absolutely a terrible call. And i can't believe i'm so fired up about the terrible call. That just happened in a random. Preseason game against the colts in the panthers but did what's going to happen breaks yourselves people. The nfl's awful taunting rules are likely going to ruin. Not only some games this year but major games now. I don't want some guy you know who's a participant. Just take this example. I don't want. I don't know alvin. Kamara get penalized for breaking off a couple of tackles and get thrown out the game because he broke off a couple of tackles and he spun the ball of ground and the referee through second flag. And he's disqualified crazy. That's going to be you know how many people are going to bash this rule. Just think of any big time superstar any big type superstar in the league. They literally can't show motion now the nfl it's not enforcing what they should be. Enforcing the nfl is making it. Like the note bundling anymore. And you know what they're gonna lose a lot of viewers because they're basically taking the human element the human element of emotion out of the game. It's crazy. now. Flags like that flagged like the one called codes for carolina. This past weekend are so dumb. They are so dumb and acted. Think that they're gonna keep this regular season. And they're going to put a damper on a few games. God forbid the tappin's in a playoff game no crazy that would be god forbid this happens in the divisional round and the you know the championship round in the wildcard round. God forbid this happens in the super bowl. What if. I don't know tom brady. And what if for example. Let's take a nail off the top. My head Fred warner they get into it. Fred warner gets a stack on. Tom brady during the championship. Game and fred warner gets up. And he goes heavens and he screams and the referees right there and he throws a taunting penalty adam. Because he's five feet away from tom brady and he's not looking at them. Are you going to tell me. You're gonna throw red warner one of the best linebackers in the game. The star of that defense in san francisco gonna tell me you're going to throw them out of that game too because he's showing a motion. That is ridiculous. I'm sorry the nfl it just stepping in it again. They're truly showing the no fun league. It's ridiculous so they're gonna give subjective calls to people who can't even handle the most egregious objective call. We have in the game right now it. It doesn't make sense to me. Good luck with that. Nfl just good luck with it. Because you're gonna have a lot of angry people out there bashing this rule you just know there's going to be a taunting call after a huge play. Leighton a game. That has everyone yelling at the game and then all day. Monday altay tuesday until next week when they're yelling out the call again the next week we watch those during the game too long not to know that something stupid like this is going to happen and just you know. Thank the nfl because the nfl reps already have one of the more difficult jobs in sports. We just know that all refs. It's a fast and furious and violent game. That is only becoming more difficult to appreciate. It just is now. They have to judge whether they think an emotional player is being a late or little too excited at the expense of an opponent and them for that. Are you kidding me. You are basically taking the emotion out of the game and you are penalizing. Four guys being too emotional. It's emotional game. It's a violent game. It's their lifestyle. That's how some people that's all their career is if you look at some of the emotional guys who are out there especially on the defensive side of the ball. That's their career that's their whole livelihood. Is there a motion. They play without emotion. They wear their emotions on their sleeves..

"And the bus these veterans onto the planes on the no the try around for thirty minutes they land and the land Their family members are there and They have waiting flags and welcome home posters and and they march off the plane and and do they have a band playing then and it's kind of like just mimicking A unit returning back home and I love doing it Because these grumpy salty veterans just you know they will an instance give you a thousand yard. Stare are like so feel who with with emotion and happiness and and a lot of a lot of motion going through their minds and the arts when we do function and it's great and We had actually one of the things that i that i we did. It was my colleagues. That invited A girl scout troop and and there were there and and And they went through the recognition. And my boss can the little like michigan on them and the whole thing See they will walk. You don't just separate bill and these little girls were you know handing Girl scout cookies a box of girl scout cookies to these vietnam vets and man they were holding back but when they saw the little girl. You know a girl scout cookies like that. That would that right. There just brought a lot of those veterans tears and Break got me choked up and and and everything because like you know we welcomed the home they. They're grateful appreciated. And the bow on top was to have a girl scout cookie girl scout given a box of cookies And i'm never gonna forget that out. My heart will fool right there and my heart was fool and I that's probably got me some some points on on on going on to heaven or something because that that they'll they'll off talking up and that's amazing murky do talk about that. I mean that's just goes in show is held. A veteran community is always looking at past present future and recognize the end of the the back that you do that like like some people. Tell me like we do at the fox theater company. That's like amazing. Were not that shit right. There is amazing. Work giving these guys that moment but i love how. He does hopscotched from school to work. I want to go back for one in just a marcus when we were in Iraq and going into college. Did you wanna say anything about that. A will point talking about Heading out and back into society. Yeah yeah to. This is fascinating first of all. It was one of the reasons why i love listening to the podcast. In general is like it's so good to hear the opinions of the first hand accounts of people who are there. Because what you know. What what i get his second and third hand in like all this stuff on the news. That's then repurpose for someone's agenda and blah blah blah blah and. It's it's it. Just it's i don't know man like y'all just almost brought me to tears like that. So warms my heart to hear about the camaraderie amongst veterans Specifically when veterans. Come back. because. I think it's something that's so lacking in society in general and i think it's something that veterans can really bring to society at large. But i'm sorry you were gonna say something who's there no i in you. You're saying in in. I'm sorry for jumping too much of a head with the richard. I got caught up with it. But you know i i i am right now where i'm at and and i i've done some good things I started kind of patting myself on the back. And say you know from compliments myself. Because i have gone a long way and matt. I mean you were there when i was Going to i would still tomorrow. You know i was still walking. And you know forty inch steps you know the whole thing and and Spending with my awe playing in twenty four twenty beers a fucking night thinking hell. Yeah yeah hey men for some people that is normal but inouye and we. We've come a long way. I think Just from my perspective on on on transitioning and my early years A lot of it was You know died and understand as we go through an identity crisis As we coming out of the military you know The the military by design Is is really good at making soldiers making rains making cellular's urban or what have you and we shitty at helping us transitioning out of military but to their credit. Their job isn't the job to win. Wars through job is to defend our country. It's not really to make You know good civilians you know. And and Helpless tradition now. And do you think that's a role like the the civilian government should That's that's more responsibility than no. I think it's society side I think is hope In a we we all pay taxes. We all have a say in in in what happens with our military. What happens with everything and i think at the end of day it. It is a a lot of it should company the a and then a lot of it The be as imperfect from perfect They there are some good a and some other people that could be better I'll remember that. But you know wherever the has gaps in in in in coverage gaps in were the nubia lot of Nonprofit stepped up like you like you guys are doing you know. And and and there's other hundreds organizations out there that are helping veterans wherever the sketching the system So i do your question. I think it's it's on everybody's and But the you know the the military you know the job performing service members and then horrible job Conditioning and one of the things that don't help us with who we are after working. Now you know we're at a level military a high level of you know at our physical standards are higher are ethical standards are higher. Our law centers are higher. Our performance jobcentres a higher. You know everything. Everything's at a high level and then when we get out we're still performing there but everybody's performing.

And so it's up to the Facebooks in YouTube's in particular to think about whether they want to be effectively cable networks for disinformation, and then we're gonna have to figure out that way. And then Newsmax problem. You know that these companies did you hear this the way in and newsmax problems. So, so it's not just so. So plan part one is okay. We find guys like Ben Ferguson and we find their YouTube channels in the parlors and we find their Facebook accounts. We find there towards account and we shut them down. Because if they have a large audience, we can't allow them to have a large audience, not by the way nothing that they've said so far. Is based. In fact, it's a weather extremist. So therefore we should shut them down. Because what makes you extremist now? Will you like Donald Trump you voted for in the clan voted for him, right? There's some whites premise out there the voting form so therefore, that justifies us saying We need to shut you down. Which is goes back to exactly what happened this week with YouTube. King County Health authorities say part of their next vaccine rollout includes a fleet of mobile vans that will help get the inoculations to large workplaces and individual homes. They also plan to open a pair of large vaccination centers in the next three weeks. President Donald Trump has been permanently banned from Twitter and this after the president was criticized for inciting the mob of his supporters that ransacked the capital Wednesday, resulting in at least five deaths. Joining us on the co Moh news line is doctor Caitlin Carlson, associate professor of communications. At Seattle University and thank you so much for being with us and let's talk about this. Can you hear me? Dr. Carlson? I could here. There we go. Yes, I can hear you now. Sorry about that. Do you think this was a smart move by Twitter? No, I think you know, Twitter and Facebook. Ah, lot of these social media companies have shown that they generally will respond to public pressure. And my understanding is there were even, um In letters sent to CEO Jack Dorsey from Twitter employees, So I think I do think this is the right decision. I wish it hadn't taken getting to this point for them to act so boldly. If you'll remember a couple months ago during the George Floyd protests, you know Trump was tweeting things like, you know if these thugs and you know When the looting starts. The shooting starts that to me felt like a real threat to, um, protesters. Unfortunately, nothing came of it. And so it's almost in some ways a little bit okay after the fact that we've had this violent insurgency on the capital Now we're responding. But all that said, I am glad that they've decided to pull the plug. They cited these two tweets from today. It's really pushing it over the edge and concerns about Additional incitement to violence, particularly around the inauguration on the 20th. I have people saying on my Facebook page, But what about free speech? And my response was he has the largest pulpit in the world. All he has to do is hold a news conference and you know and take questions and every media outlet in the world would be there. Absolutely well and just to clarify for your listeners, and for all of us, right? We have no right to free speech on Twitter. You have a right to free speech out in Westlake Park or Cal Anderson. But this is a private virtual platform. And so the terms of service that we click, I agree, too. Really mean that we are agreeing in a contract with the company to say I had here to whatever rules you decide, so there's you know, I think a lot of people are quick to invoke the First Amendment, but there's really No First Amendment implications. Twitter can do whatever it wants, Which is why we see Twitter do things like regulate heat speech, which is normally protected, are allowed in the United States under the First Amendment, so we really don't have a right. Quote unquote to free speech on on sites like Twitter, Facebook. It was interesting because right after he was shut out of his account, he switched over to the POTUS account and those, uh Those were quickly deleted by Twitter. And now he says he is switching to the platform parlor. Can a president really be silenced? I mean, I don't think so. You made the point earlier that all he has to do is call a news conference. He's got in incredible pool with the media. Everything he says, is always going to be news for the what I think Twitter has demonstrated, and Facebook as well is You know, we're not going to be the ones to hand you a microphone. And honestly, I think that's a good thing because when he's forced to, you know, hold a press conference. We then get journalists to be there to ask questions. Provide context, you know. What's been tricky about the past several months, and even several years is that the statements are made. They're they're bold falsehoods and you know Twitter or Facebook only after the fact and put a little label up and say, Hey, this is been contested. As opposed to you know, if you're on live television, we can cut back to the anchor or live radio like we're doing now cut back to you is the host and say, Wait a second. That's been disproven and and challenge him on some of that. And so I think In this instance and under the circumstances with this president. Having that context, having that journalistic expertise is what's best for us as constituents after citizens. Really appreciate you taking time and talking to us on such quick notice. Most research has focused on Gretchen, anxiety and depression. VW chief's Nazi gaffe angers investors
"Independent. Investors have raised questions about the future. Volkswagen's chief executive Herbert dece after he evaded Nazi phrase in a management meeting last week. John many brand discusses the controversy with Patrick gave. Patrick what exactly did Mr. d say the private meeting to w clock badgers, and he was explaining that the twelve brands within Volkswagen that includes Porsche Audi Skoda's yacht. They're managed differently. And he was saying that Porsche because it has seventeen percent margins doesn't really have taught managing breathing down their neck about how to get things done. And he was basically saying if you are a different brand, and you want to have that same kind of freedom prophets will set you free. And so he said Yvette maxed fry which is really similar to our by MAC fry which was in blazoned at the Auschwitz concentration camps. So VW has unfortunate links with the Third Reich because we know is it possible that the head of a company that was founded at the behest of Adolf Hitler and relied on concentration camp labor during its early days could be unaware of the offense his remarks might have caused. I do think it's possible. The question is whether that. That means anything maybe that falls towards negligence or being Bolivia's. But you know, you're supposed to be super aware of these comments and of the history. And actually he's made a point of saying that he's aware of the history he visited outfits last year, he visited yet but shown in Jerusalem last year who was actually one of his first access CEO. So he is conscious of this. And this is just a major blunder. But I have spoken people who are in the room and more than half of them have told me they didn't make the connection either in part because what he was saying was really such a sort of benign comment that, you know, prophets will sort of help you. Nobody was thinking in terms of historical connections to folks against darkest days. Then again, a hassle going to people who say as soon as he said, I recognize the historical blunder, and it's worth knowing that Mr. de said the comments to an even five times, according to some people. So I think he was rather oblivious to it. I don't think he was putting on it. But it's hard to say, and I get inside his mind. So how did misdeeds explain it? Itself. Mr. has a pretty active linked in page where he puts up sell fees with join Adela from Microsoft, and that sort of thing that's actually working chose to write his apology. He basically said I apologize unreservedly Inouye was I trying to make this connection, and it's worth knowing that that came immediately. There was no hesitation on his part or anything and welcomed by multiple parties. And what's been the reaction of shareholders and investors? So when we talk about investors with Volkswagen it's worth knowing we're almost exclusively talking about minority shareholders because three groups hold ninety percent of the shares of the ten percent that's held by you know, you and I'm on pop investors institutions I've spoken to several who were outraged and defended and some of them as we've written in the have called for him to go. They think that this represents a really big misjudgment and calls into question some of his other decision making. But he's also made a lot of enemies within Volkswagen by trying to lift margin by. By going after the cost structure wanting to lay people off wanting to shift Volkswagen into a new direction focused on electric occasion, which will reduce the workforce over the next ten years. And I think there's a lot of people who weren't necessarily offended by the statement. But they see this as an opportunity to either hurt dece or to get rid of him because they're already against him when did Mr. deeds joined VW, and how'd you think his performance is rated currently by shareholders? He was a BMW board member for a while he joined Volkswagen in July two thousand fifteen now that just three months before the diesel scandal was exposed it's pretty unfortunate timing because it's not late enough to be fully cleaned from the diesel scandal. So he's actually been under investigation since two thousand sixteen by German prosecutors because there's a big big shareholder case that still hasn't gone to court or just in the early stages of going to court now where shareholders are seeking damages of nine billion euros because they believe. Board told them too late about the diesel scandal. They needed to be informed earlier. So DC's was the head of the VW brand not the head of the W group at the time. But he's implicated in that ended remains to be seen whether that be troublesome for him later on. He was only promoted to the Volkswagen group kief executive eleven months ago. So do you think he'll survive this latest scandal and give them the company's ownership structures? You explain it who would have the power to remove him basically to forces that could have the power. So one is the portion peac family that owns fifty three percent of the entire company so far from awful sources, I know that they still back him entirely, and he has such a big job to do right now. They've been very pleased with him. I would be pretty surprised that they turned on him over this comment. The other however is a little more contentious so Volkswagen supervisory board who really has all the power has twenty seats. Ten of them Gherman law, go to the labor union and then two of them come from lower south. Axes state where they have their headquarters. So that gives a majority right twelve out of twenty two basically the workers because Lower Saxony size of the workers because of the way politics works. So if they really turn against him than that's how you could see Mr. being ousted. So finally, Patrick VW has a history of unforced errors, and given this latest blundered, you think Mr. DC's really the man to turn around Volkswagen's fortunes. I can tell this blunder. It would be a really simple answer. And you would say yes shareholders have generally been big cheerleaders of Mr. dece in large part because he's known to be a very tough negotiator with the unions. He wants to cut costs here there and everywhere and Volkswagen under his leadership is making a full throttle turn towards electrification on a level that you're just not seeing with the groups that rival them in terms of car sold. So that would be renault-nissan Toyota General Motors, so electric vacation really is the future of automotive. Volkswagen has. Lake over everyone else. Nobody else is really willing to take that sort of risk. But the other question, of course, is corporate governance and cultural reform, and with this kind of comment, I suppose that gets put into question, but there are a lot of people who think that this whole episode was sort of silly. It was obviously an unfortunate error, and it doesn't have wider implications to really depends where you fall into that question. And I think one interesting parallel is that when the Volkswagen scandal was exposed Martin vinter corn the CEO step down within a week and the head of Porsche. But he has Mueller took over within a few months. He went to the Detroit auto show and was asked about this scandal by NPR, and he said, very clearly we didn't lie, and I would think that was actually a bigger gaffe than actually what just said because it was just months after the diesel scandal. It was a really sensitive time. And it was already clear at that point that Volkswagen had engaged in a cover up for a year after more than ten years of cheating. So to say. We didn't lie was just such a big thing. So I do think dis has a strong credibility with investors. Even with this gaffe, and in general, he does have the credibility to take this company in new direction. He's really got the portion peac families on board. And you know, they're often seen as the problem for Volkswagen being to your credit ads not looking after shareholders. So so long as these surprise next week. I think he'll be there for quite a bit more time at least a year or
