Stan Van Gundy Hired as Coach of the New Orleans Pelicans
"Van Gundy is going to be the new head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, and Van Gundy has had a successful coaching career. He has been in the playoffs every year, except one in every year that he's coached a full season. He is well, I shouldn't say that Up until Detroit he had made the playoffs every single year. He was a head coach and then missed the playoffs three out of four years in Detroit. So some of that magic had rubbed off by the time that he got to the Detroit Pistons, but he has Plus 500 win percentage over the course of his career in the regular season. 5 77. He's also plus 500 in his postseason playoff career at 5 27. You might remember. He originally was the head coach in Miami for the heat, and he had helped build that team into a contender they had traded for Shaquille O'Neal. Aftershock. Shot his way out of town in Los Angeles and couldn't coexist with Kobe. And going into the 0506 ease that they had just come out of the Eastern Conference finals, Remember? And so Miami was poised to maybe make a run of the N BA finals. He still had shack near a dominant portion of his career kind of coming out of it, but still still pretty dominant, and Dwayne Wade was ascending. And Pat Riley Bogard the team within the 1st 25 games, and either he didn't like the way things were going where the players didn't like Stan Van Gundy, But Riley swooped in. He was the GM swooped in, took over as the head coach. And rode it all the way to that. 06 N B, a Finals championship. At that point in time. Obviously, Van Gundy is now percent non grata in my Abbey, five. The job in Orlando gets the job in Orlando and gets them to the N B, a finals and another conference finals. It's kind of hard to believe, but the Orlando Magic within the last decade We're the en Bas Finals and Eastern Conference finals when they had Dwight Howard to the peak of his powers, and that was a stand. Van Gundy team. Van Gundy then got fired after a couple of first round exits and landed in Detroit, and we got all the personnel control Detroit that did not go well. As I mentioned before miss the playoffs three out of four years at the Blake Griffin edition, ultimately only made the playoffs once and got swept in the first round. So Van Gundy's abilities that he had in Miami and Orlando really took a hit in Detroit. Now he's become a very entertaining broadcaster. He's a great interview. He's smart. He's funny. He's self deprecating Stan Van Gundy. He's a really good listen, but is he a good head coach anymore? I've got my doubts because When he won. He had veteran guys that had already established themselves as stars or were establishing themselves. A star's already in Miami with shock and Dwayne Wade Wade was relatively young but still was Already ascending into one of the best players of basketball in Orlando. Same thing with Dwight Howard and company in Detroit. It was trying to fix it. They couldn't fix it. And now in New Orleans, it's a completely different challenge. That's a thing that has not accomplished anything. And they're all young players. And this is about the development of Brandon Ingram Specifically, and Zion Williams. Those the two guys the biggest potential on that roster logs, those good Alonso is never going to be with Ingram or specifically, Zion could be and science the big one. If you get Zion to the next level. Then the pelicans get to the next level. If he doesn't, then they don't and the pelicans enter the bubble after that long hiatus and had the inside track to make the playoffs and flamed out. We're going to know immediately whether Stan Van Gundy is a good coach or not immediately. He's a guy that can rub guys a little bit of the wrong way. He can have that Van Gundy hard ass attitude. He's very quick. He's willing to call you out in the media. We remember him and Dwight Howard uncomfortably shoulder to shoulder arm over the shoulder. You know, guys sometimes don't like you. And if they don't like it, you're out of there. If the pelicans missed the playoffs this upcoming season, Van Gundy's going to have to take the fall for that He's going to take the blame. There's a lot of potential on that roster a lot. And Zion is ready to explode, and Ingram showed last year the type of player he could be team him with his eye on with Alonso and the rest of that roster. There's no excuse to miss the playoffs over full season with the pelicans. Van Gundy better get them there, or else he's gonna look like just a really good quote and a good broadcaster. That doesn't deserve to be getting head coaching jobs any more after that, and Detroit

Michigan resident puts toilet on front lawn with sign 'Place mail in ballots here'
"But a controversy over a front lawn display in Michigan Lansing State Journal reports a man whose toilet themed election decorations that are on his front lawn will that man now in hot water, the Ingram County clerk took exception. To the sign over the toilets on the man's front lawn, the sign said. Place mail in ballots here. Since illegally taking possession of an absentee ballot is a felony of the clerk filed a police report. No word on whether the homeowner was charged or if he was just forced to flush the display.

Fantasy Football Forecast: One BIG THING you should know for every Week 2 matchup
"I sit out the way New Orleans versus Las Vegas raters. We saw New Orleans showcase really really solid, really great defensive performance against Tom. Brady and the buccaneers They were pretty on disappointed as a team, lot of penalties on their defensive side of the front. The saints rebel to take advantage of that. La Raiders played against the Carolina Panthers last week and gave up thirty points. It's very possible that New Orleans doesn't look as Resi as they did against a really solid defensive front in Tampa. Bay and they might have their way with a raiders team that is still kind of pretty young and trying to get their footing and all this stuff. They don't they had an injury to majority of their wide receivers in the last game. So Dan, Waller seems to be their only solid option. At the receiving side of things that might mean there in Waller's uptick in target's share and my means, he gets an ends on this year or this week maybe something good happens for him I'm buying all the stock now I'm Kamara right now for this game, this should be Alvin Kamara. KAMERA's two touchdown, a hundred yards from scrimmage plus game. This is this is the one I wouldn't see why would be any otherwise and to be quite frank. I think that a lot of players on seem to have a really big game and this would be a really fun game to see trae Kwan Smith. I'm going to bring them up again. This'll be a fun game Trey Smith. Look to be a solid. Relieving game just for brevity and sake of saving saints, fans of fantasy fans alike, some worry as to what the saints offense can look like without Michael Thomas Soaking up a lot of the defensive pressure. All right. So Fancy implications all over the place you know Josh Jacobs. This could be a really good test to see just how much they believe in Josh Jacobs as a pass catcher because I don't know how much he's going to be able to do in the run game considering New Orleans is when had and still does on one of the better run defenses in all the football. I think the best game. Pound for pound this week has to be the night game on NBC, where New England is playing against Seattle that they're going to be playing in Seattle New England the we have a kind of banged up cam and she says it's the there's no hamstring issue but. Of Most people are saying that he does, Kinda. Have a little bit of a hamstring thing going on and we'll see how that affects him with all read option stuff and what we saw from last Sunday's performance maybe we started to see cam throw a little bit more, and then we can really see just what this doing his offense really has to offer for them sure that bill will have them ready for whatever and we saw sea hawks offense that basically let Russell Wilson do what people have been asking. Them to let Russell. Wilson do for basically the majority of the back half of the dense. You know twenty seventeen was to let Russ Cook and Cook did Russell Wilson? Do He only missed four passes? He had A. Great amount of yardage great touchdown passes de que look. Nice at times he did have some drops of course, Tyler Lockett looked really good. Chris Carson looked amazing. In the past game. We had some really good screens run in for touchdowns. They got tight ends involved the plethora tight ends at the seahawks own and their defense was literally flying around all over the place. Now, there are a lot of garbage time touchdown stuff in that Falcons game that I'm not GonNa hold against the defense when it mattered. Jamal Adams and of course. Everybody else in that defense just looked phenomenal. They just looked physical. They looked like they were flying around and making plays they look very formidable as team very formidable. So. That is a game as the May have a lot of implemented implications on things so KEEP IN MIND I think one of the better secondaries in the League is New England's granted they played against. The, dolphins but they did not allow that many receptions or receiving yards at all for either receiver on the dolphins and Tyler Lockett, and care very athletic fast guys but. It's going to be tough. Is GonNa be a tough about we'll see what happens. They may have to change up the strategy of leading Russ Cook for this game in particular and work through the old tried and true run the ball and try to make something happen later on in the game. But for US Russell Wilson owners like myself I hope they just let him throw the ball a little bit more that'd be nice. That would be fun I think we'd all like to enjoy that. So moving on towards another game I think the Baltimore Game at four, twenty, five eastern standard time on CBS is going to be a good one, Baltimore versus Houston. This game can go I think Houston is a team that kid look Jacqueline Hyde and they've been jekyll and Hyde ever since the Shawn Watson is come on that team and. Not Sage. It's the Sean played bad last Thursday. But he definitely did not look comfortable one hundred percent of the time and you just was trying to make plays. His offensive line wasn't there fully stout at all and when it was time to just throw throw throw things Kinda got out of hand for Houston Houston can't be a team that gets to behind too quickly or else it is going to be nightmarish for the offensive line. And it's going to be a bad day for Shawn Watson even though he can make miracles happen at will while Samour's in perfect position to take on a team that showcase bad tackling display. So this is a team. So if this is the time where you want to be like, okay JK Dobbins, he didn't have that many targets but hey, he got two touchdowns in is the time to test out the JK Dobbins is going to be. The album? Kamara. To Marketing Rooms Mark Ingram. So we'll see what happens here Lamar he this seem doesn't tackle well, Lamar could have himself a anywhere closer to forty to fifty yards rushing easily against this team if he wants it, and of course, Mark Andrews is a guy who I would think would eat very well against the Houston team that allowed drivers Kelsey to get like five catches in the first half with ease marched up and down the field with ease Look to see how David Johnson looks in his second bout. David Johnson had a nice surprise of a Comeback Week one performance that a lot of people were speculating was possible and he delivered for the most part. So that was encouraging for many people to go ahead and see so I wouldn't. Put it past him to do it once again. That's really really against the I think that Brandin cooks is still a bit. So that would not be. Great for folks owners. And I would be looking at anybody who has. Willie snead Willie snead was all over the place last week and it was almost to a shocking amount of how much willie snead was dependent on and I said Willie snead. That was not who I meant to say I meant to say will fuller will fuller will around the field for the Texans last week and I would like to see him continue that stretch because that would be. Pretty awesome to be completely honest. I. Would like to see a will fuller healthy and showcasing that he is here to stay in this league and thus it would not make me feel nearly as bad for short.

"Or are you out? All right, let's hit cement. Bahir New Orleans pelicans, hold the number 13 pick and next month's draft and have a bright future thanks to Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball. Yesterday, the team hired former Magic Pistons and Heat head coach Stan Van Gundy to takeover rumors have swirled that the pills are considering trading one of their point guards either Lonzo ball or drew holiday. With reports saying that at least 10 teams have made offers for holiday. So here's the question. Invalids are out of bounds. The pelicans do need to add another star if they want to contend in the Western Conference. Yeah, I'm going to say inbounds to that D cell because they're so young on don't need they don't need no, the young star. They don't need like some guy who was supposed to be something else somewhere. But then Maybe he's going to get a different start. When he comes to New Orleans. They don't need that guy They need established. Veteran star doesn't have to be a super story. Don't need to go get you know LeBron James or Paul George or somebody like that, even though Paul George will be really interesting, but they do need to go. This is in bounds. They don't They do need to go get a veteran star. Who could teach these young players howto howto win and howto clothes. When you're young like this, and you have talent and you, you've made some strides. There's it's all great, fine and dandy, but you still gotta learn how to close you got to learn the close games. You've gotta learn once you get to the postseason at a close Siri's And the importance of the structure of a year, So I want to stay in bounds. I think they definitely need to get those star and Stan Van Gundy needs that on court assistance from a guy that can that has done it in one in the MBA..
Magic Spoon, A Healthy Breakfast Cereal
"Gary Welcome to the show. Hi, thanks for having me. Well, can you describe to our listeners what magic spoon radius of course magic spoon is a breakfast cereal company that I launched in April of two thousand nineteen. So just over a year ago and we are recreating all of your favorite shout who'd sugary cereals but without the sugar essentially. So imagine whatever your favorite junk cereal was an I imagine it worth more protein and less carbs zero sugar actually legitimately healthy for you. But with the and texture of all those sugary cereals, we we all loved growing up, right? Yeah. I had to look actually at the nutritional labels off both magic spoon and then fruit loops. A popular child with choice of of many, and I can see both serving of about one, hundred, ten, two, hundred, eighteen categories, but magic spoons. Macro makeup is completely different I'm seeing that it's fruit loops gets like eighty five percent of their calories from cops out of which about half come from Shoka match gets nearly eighty percent of its calories from fat and protein. How do you achieve that? Correct? So we've basically got a similar Carolina recount. We've swapped the protein and carbs around and we did riot by basing our SERIO ON A. Blend of protein slits, we primarily use a milk pudding ice lit as well as a way protein concentrates and use that instead of the wheat flour or corn flour rice lower than most classic serials, and then rather than sweetening with thigh high fructose, Corn Syrup, or perhaps akin sugar we use a blend of natural sweeteners that are essentially zero calories. So specifically use Stevia and monk route and three those in a specific combination allows us to get as close as possible to that sweet tasted sugary cereals without actually putting sugar into the products. I am because I was curious because I'm certain food scientists and then I saw you know like you have a blend of fruits, Steve Young at Lowe's and the nets reason to really achieve that that flavor or is it something else as well? So that's the sweetness the flavor itself. Ingram comes from natural flavors. Basically Ryan's depending on ever. We have a obliterate flavor, for example, some of us. Are Real Blueberry powder in that Labor, and then will actually get the colors from fruit and vegetable juices used in very small quantities. So not really adding any sugar but are You know some of our flavors resemble US beet juice, beet extracts read flavor fritzy cereal Spirulina to get a blue collar on our blueberry cereal. For example, the different gradients are different purposes but in general everything's entirely natural. Even. Though of course that doesn't mean very much nowadays but premium high-quality ingredients and high in protein sugar, a would not expect that actually when you look at like a package off fruit loops that they can be actual flavors in it. So it's it's quite impressive and you also have an oil plan with within magic spoon riot. Can you talk more about that direct? So he's a blend of. Highly Sunflower oil, and then avocado oil. Basically, you didn't oil to bind the colors in the flavorings to the base of the cereal and we wanted to, of course, was high quality. Fatty Acids rather than just like sure low-quality seed oils and so high elects unclear. Oil pretty different from regular Orlando it fatty acids and those are the same sort of saturated fats that you find extroversion. And of course, avocado oil very healthy as well. Got It and just going back to the sweeteners, and now that in recent years, the had been quite a few studies on a variety of different sweeteners and some of them half a good and some have a negative impact on one's microbiome worried as long fruit steve here on LAS, stand on that. Do you now that? Yeah, they're good impact which is why we chose them. So Chicago halls are generally very good. So bunch of using things like A. Recruits all tell which can have a negative impact on my own, but also caused just looting and general or stomach aches and a pretty large portion of the population. So we want to avoid sugar alcohols for that reason, which right meet means ingredients are more expensive. So obviously, stadium for are more expensive than a lot of the other sweeteners that might still be natural but he come with other issues, and so we wanted to avoid those issues, which is why you chose these three. Got It. So

A Mathematician's Manifesto For Rethinking Gender
"So, one of the things I most remember from elementary school is all of the math word problems. You know what? I'm talking about the ones that say things like, okay. If Alex has seven cookies and Sam has read cookies, how many cookies do we need to give some to make sure they have the same number of cookies? I would get so excited every time I got the right answer to one of these problems. Anyway. One is actually pretty easy. Well, we could give four more cookies to Sam all we could take four cookies from Alex. We could make Alex give to cookies to Sam in any of these four Eugenia Chang, a mathematician. The better answer is actually to ask a different question. What if some doesn't even like cookies and would rob have pools? See Eugeniusz Studies. This kind of high level math never heard of to be honest called category theory. Category Theory is very abstract pods of math and so abstract that sometimes even all the pure mathematicians think it's too abstract. But for me, it's about the core of what makes math tick and because math for me is about the core of what makes the tick cats theories like the cool coal of what makes the wilted because category theory is about understanding why things work the way they do intrinsic characteristics don't really matter what matters is how things relate to one another it started in around the middle of the twentieth century and in A. Way It's only very small small new idea but like great ideas, a small shift in perspective opens up an absolutely vast array of possibilities because it's like turning on a light, which is why in her most recent book x Plus Y, Eugenia uses category to turn the light on something that I might seem surprising for a mathematician something deeply ingrained in many of us gender it suddenly eliminates everything and you can see all sorts of things you didn't see before and so in the same way that we stop focusing on cookies which not everyone wants. What happens if we also stop focusing on gender constructs which might not be relevant. Category theory invites us to stop asking if men women and non binary people are equal and to look beyond the single dimension, of gender. Today on the show in abstract. Mathematicians approach to rethinking gender. I'm Emily Quang and you're listening to shortwave from NPR. Okay. So back to Alex Sam and their cookie dilemma, the Metaphor serves a larger point that are thinking about gender is one dimensional and doesn't characterize how people really are. Even when we think about gender as a spectrum between masculine and feminine behavior that's already a problem because it makes it sound wrong. So it makes it sound like menace supposed masculine and if a woman is masculine, then she somehow going against her nature and then if men are seen as being feminine, that sounds like that's something wrong with them as well. Whereas in fact, there's no reason to associate. Gender with character and everyone can be all sorts of things if type of character and behavior is something we valley. Then why wouldn't we value it from everybody of all genders? So Eugenia started to think about character as a dimension separate from gender asking how much our society value certain character traits over others, and she came up with her own way of categorizing behavior. One that deals with two new traits. She invented ingress give and Congress have, and the idea is that ingress of traits are more about individualism and single track been king and. Congress is about bringing things together, bringing people together, bringing ideas together and thinking about broader communities and society as a whole rather than individuals, and it's not trying to be a new dichotomy. It's trying to be a wave thinking about behavior and having woods because if you don't have woods to think about things, then it's much harder to think about them reflecting on her own career Eugenia realized early on that, she forced herself to be engrossing. That is individualistic and single-minded and she did land prestigious jobs in academia I'm ashamed of it now. Because I don't like that kind of behavior but I definitely. Latched onto the idea that in academia, it's important to make kind of aggressive arguments and show how clever you are and be able to talk yourself up because ultimately she says, the academic environment was inconclusive and relentless. It was such a kind of ongoing treadmill in my tenure job because it was a very all year thing and I remember one August getting ready for the new academic year and feel like had been about one minute since the previous academic year and I thought Oh just going to be like this until I retire now and then. Honestly, what happened was I started looking around at the people around me who were close to retirement. and. I thought. Oh. No, I'm becoming like them. And I didn't want to. And I thought I have to get out of this before I become sort of fossilized into this kind of behavior that I don't like. So she left the traditional tenure track and became a professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago as their scientists in residence. That's right. Eugenia began to teach math to art students. She wanted to make math more relevant to them, and then came the two thousand sixteen election a moment that brought issues of gender and race into focus and it was like I flipped a switch in my mind and I thought you know silence is complicity if I don't talk about these things and. Am I complicit with these things it's too important not to talk about it and I thought actually every academic discipline is there to help us understand the world and what is the most important thing in the world that we need to understand right now it is this social and political situation that we're getting ourselves into, and so then I felt like I really had to talk about it all the time. So the question for her became, how do I get my students to unlearn all of the aggressive competitive answered driven math they've taught for so many years especially when there are so many concepts to learn and so little time. And Eugenia. kind of figured it out by making sure that everyone in the class learns together AK congressionally take for example, this hands on activities she does to teach them about platonic solids. Am I don't tell them what the platonic solids all, and so in case you can't remember or never knew the platonic solids are the three dimensional shapes that have maximally symmetric and some of. Them are built out two triangles, and so they sit down and they build things together and they talk to each other while they're doing it and it's therapeutic because it's cutting and sticking visa, and some of them build platonic solids and some of them build things that are almost platonic solids but have a lot of symmetry on quite Tony solids and then someone will build a dinosaur. Is that You build a down right field a dinosaur. then. What you discover is that Pentagon's are really terrible shape for building a dinosaur off whereas triangles are fantastic shape for building a dinosaur you can build practically anything with triangles and that's profound mathematical fat try and relations are really really important tool in high level research and so whatever they do they will learn something and when we pool everything we've built as close. We will get all of these things even if not every. Individual person built every individual platonic solid, and so that is one way that we can do congressional explorations than sitting down and sort of memorizing. These are the platonic solids visa, the properties they have. This one is called this and it has many faces many this many edges and her villainous classes. Yeah. In this way, like you're holding the dinosaur and you're discovering something together about platonic solids through this joint exercise right and. In her class, she uses concepts from math to probe the relationships between people and the thing about aggressive classroom that students are able to probe back ask how all of this applies to say different types of privilege in society, and that moment was something that my i would never have come up with that idea about privilege and factors of numbers and the geometry. If my student had asked me these questions push things further. And further because when you teach in Congress I think it's important to find what motivates the students and tap into that. When you're teaching Ingram you try and bend their will to yours to try and show them. This is the right way of thinking. This is the way instead of meeting them somewhere, which is Congress if way the Keever Eugenia is to make Matha process of mutual discovery one that's truly inclusive and not competitive. Her classroom is a place where in the same breath that students are learning math they can have frank conversations about the role of race and gender in society if you ask them to stop thinking about it when they come into the math classroom, then they won't be interested in anything I say, and the people who think that we should stop talking about in math for them. It's not part of their life all the time because they're part of a group that doesn't have to think about it all. The time and so that's the reaction I get mostly it's amazement from people who really really resonate with these issues but you might be wondering what about people who are more aggressive? Aren't they getting lost in the shuffle some people worry the I'm now making it known inclusive towards ingress if people and I've had this query sometimes it's an interesting one because the thing is I do think I do value Congress behavior more than ingress behavior but if you think of it as for example in aggressive people. obstructive towards others in the classroom. So then what we're saying is that I am not going to be inclusive towards obstructive behaviour in the classroom and I think that's okay. I don't feel any reason to include obstructive behaviour in my classroom and so inclusivity is subtle. I don't think it means that we need to include all things. I don't need to include violence in my classroom I don't need to include. Intellectual violence and I don't need to include behavior that obstructs squashes of either and I don't think that means I'm not being inclusive I think it means that I'm valuing things are helpful to our community and I am not valuing things are obstructive to our community Eugenia. We have talked about everything this conversation I'm just I'm just I showed up. We're GONNA talk about math and we're talking about. We're talking about relationships are talking about how we learn we teach. How communities work I mean it's just it kind of encompasses. So much of actually what's really going on right now in society around recent gender too so I guess the only other thing I want to ask you is. What is like the single? Most Powerful thing that listeners can take to become more aggressive in their lives and create congressional situations at home. In Yeah. I think. To notice when we're fabricating competition that doesn't have to be a competition. Competition comes from scarcity of resources and we do not live in a world of scarcity of resources. At the moment it has been fabricated to have guessed resources, and then we fabricate competitions like music competitions. Music of all things is a thing that doesn't need to be a competition education doesn't need to be a competition because what we're learning is understanding knowledge and wisdom, and there isn't a limit on that resource. We can all have it. We don't have to prevent somebody else from having to have ourselves and conversations end up being competitive where the idea seems to be to win an argument was why we trying to win an argument and if we try and iron out. Contrived Ingram of situations in individual personal interruptions. Then we can build up from that because the world is made of little interactions that build up into big ones and I really think that even if we start small, we can build up to change the whole wall to be a better place for everybody of all genders.
Sales Creativity Wins The Day!
"You're listening to the daily sales tips podcast and I'm your host Scott Ingram I've been thinking a lot about how important creativity is in sales lately, sexually Eddie buyers who initially got me thinking about this almost a year ago I was in New York City for a couple of client onsite meetings. You know back in the day when that was thing when we used to travel and get drinks together anyway Eddie is a consummate reader and a true student of. Sales. In fact, you can listen to our conversation together in episode seventy, nine of the sales success stories podcast. But as a fan of that show, he pointed out that many of the top performers I've interviewed are super creative think about it. How often do you get challenged in a sales process or have to find a different and unique way to break through with your prospecting because just doing more isn't going to be enough to get you where you WANNA be. I had some great sales leaders early in my sales career who taught me that you're GonNa hear? No probably a few times as you're working through an opportunity, they even suggested that a deal wasn't really real until you'd heard no at least once it's those knows they get you closer to what's really going on. It's your opportunity to go deeper ask more questions and get to the truth once you understand that then you get to be creative, you overcome those issues and perceived obstacles. How do you re engage the deal that's gone dark? How do you differentiate yourself and your offering to out shine your competitors all about creativity sales is rarely mechanical. Does it follow the same script? And the same process every time it's more like jazz, there's a lot of improvisation and creativity and it works best if you apply your own unique style and put a personal touch on things lately, I've run into a whole heap of different challenges and issues. But each time I've been able to take a breath think it through get creative and collaborate with my team and ultimately come up with something that was even better because of the challenge, and this is certainly true in a micro sense when it comes to a specific deal or a particular prospecting effort but it's also true in a very macro sense right now things are different. We're still not traveling and going to see. Our customers face to face and getting them all together in a room together to share our vision or create that vision together. So we have to be more broadly creative as well. What's relevant now, what's going to break through the noise and get people to act to make a change transform it all comes down to your creativity. You might get inspired by examples in the stories of plays other people have run, but it's up to you to find your own way through but we don't talk about this and think about this enough. We don't take the time to think I'm pretty sure that's actually one of the books that Eddie pulled out of his bag as we had that. Drink together, he pulls out this rather tattered very well read copy of Napoleon Hill's think rich. It's as simple as that. You have to take the time to think also call on the title of another book that have actually read, but I think the title pretty much says it all and that's Ryan holidays. The obstacle is the way you can't run away and hide from the obstacles and the challenges you've got to face them. You've got to think about them and then figure out if you're going to just run straight at it or maybe you go around it or over it or under it. But as the subtitle of that book suggests there's an art interning trials into triumph. Appreciate the stress lean into the pressure and the things that are in your way. That's where the real growth comes from. If you want to grow stronger, you don't get there by lifting lightweights you get there from putting stress on the system by breaking down your muscles so that they'll repair, adapt and grow. You don't get faster by running slow. You've got to push yourself to go harder than you probably want to go so that you get that training response that you're after

Trump Just Went Full QAnon in a Wild Fox News Interview
"Defeat into a win by stoking violence to convince voters that only he can fix this and all the other things that have happened on his watch. He told Laura Ingraham on Fox News Monday night he's investigating a plane load of thugs. He said we're headed to Washington DC just before his convention. As usual, he was sketchy about the details which he said it explained later, but he spoke like a madman about quote people you haven't heard of in the dark shadows controlling Joe Biden. Even Ingram said it sounded like a conspiracy theory. Style she was right. It was a rumor on facebook promoted two months ago by a right wing militia group in Idaho, and now it was tumbling out of the mouth of the most irresponsible man to ever occupy the Oval Office quoting trump. We had somebody get on a plane from a certain city this weekend and in the plane, it was almost completely loaded with thugs wearing these dark uniforms, black uniforms with gear and this and that. He went on. What happened is the entire plane filled up with the looters, the anarchist, the rioters, the people that were obviously looking for trouble and quote. Trump loves the conspiracy theories always has, but his phantom of fantasy has taken its most dangerous turn recently toward Cuban on and the fringes of a fringe Bob will have more on that in his commentary later.
Houston told to halt sending mail-in ballot application for every Harris County registered voter
"There's an argument between the state in its most populous county, Harris County over who can receive the form to apply for a mail in ballot, Keith Ingram, the director of elections for the Texas secretary of state, told Harris County to immediately halt its plans to send every registered voter in the county an application for mail in ballot for the general election.
Speed-Round Sunday: The Fidget Spinners of Our Day
"Of course since I have twelve year old I have a fidget spinner in my life right now have. Will more than one because. We found one in the store which immediately had to buy the one that we ordered online has not yet arrived so. If that's GONNA show up. So it got us all thinking though this this crazy about what was the fidget spinner in our day when you were. And you needed to. Entertain Yourself. During School? What did you do Terry? Should, say I'm playing with the pen right now. doodling. Just spinning it around in my hand wondering how far I can push down the top for it makes noise. Yup I always used to I. One of my Go-to fidgets was like you know the old those clear bic pens with a little blue piece in the end. In you would then. Claw the claw the blue peace out the back and put it back in and out, and then you would play with the little blue piece and. It's possible I might have chewed on the little piece and. Put it back in, and then once he pulled it out, then it's it's got that it's kind of up on the edges and play with it and a whole bunch of different ways that was big deal in office also then going ahead and taking the entire big pan apart and you know playing with little to. I. Wonder How many? How many of those pens actually get written with? Just there are they just a little kid to take apart and put back together. PAPERCLIPS are good for that test. I've I fidget with paperclips when I was. In school, you would fidget with the spiral. Out Pushing it back in until it got to the point of no return. You know there was always doodling but also like a race when you get like a colored spiral notebook and then you race designs into the camera. That was a fidget thing young and. You, eat A. we've discussed on this this podcast before that y'all are sadly ignorant of what a peachy folder is but she has offered huge opportunities to color in things. So and to make dialogue picture era pictures and they had young people doing wholesome things and you could make them say things that were not property. Read. The rich tapestry for fidgeting is saying people do Olsen being. Football. Commentary yes. Yes, Lord. Coloring skills this is this is. How Children of my era? Themselves kids back before there were computers and smartphones and fidget spinners. We blew designs on peachy voters. Around the Campfire Kidd? Virgin? Give any other ones Nicole that you remember doing? Yeah. I would pick off the paint yellow paint on. Be a new to pencil. The, first or were you able to just scratch it off with fingernail? I could scratch off my fingernail head start down where the lead one. But the not and get a splinter. Hr Chevrolet take apart the eraser eraser out and push back in no on that but I did take my big pink erased hard i. don't even remember the name of it. Now I remember those per name. The per. And I dig holes yes. With my pen. Oh. Yes. Or Harvard with your scissors indeed. Yes that sounds. So word mentally I think the one of the best was the. Peeling the glue off the. The. Yes Yup. Yes they're. Eyeing it. If we really wanted to be rebellious in like risk big-time. Precautions we would. Car The inside of our. Home. And then once it's carved, then you right in it with Ingram Pencil People can us if you've gotTA listen? Kits they carved actually on top of their kids. Yes. That's why that was brave. And then lots of dry. Did you ever do that one kilroy was Yeah Redo Lots of drawing vast flowers, iced draw flowers. Of various sorts. I think and I liked plumbing writing writing. Oh bubble writing an notes to your classmates to right? Yeah Eight. And doodling instead of together and then hoping nobody ever asks. Throughout the entire.
Florida Judge Rules State Order Requiring Schools to Reopen 'Unconstitutional'
"A judge in Tallahassee, Florida temporarily block Governor Rhonda's Santas from forcing public schools in the state to open during the pandemic, ruling the order arbitrarily disregard safety, state teacher's Union President Federal Ingram. We know what our jobs are. We simply don't want to risk the lives of our kids. We don't want to risk our own lives and by extension our families at home. The state immediately appealed the judge's ruling, which puts it on
How to Manage Cash Flow Through Uncertainty
"Well as your company grows or looks to save money especially people expenses. It's always good to look at the best tools and process run your business. The right tools and processes can help you either scale, your business, or running more profitably hit help and Tony Ward with the President of zero for the Americas. He has twenty years of experience in senior leadership positions with global technology companies including Microsoft Australia linked in spark, serving monkey and dropbox Tony Welcome to the show. Bearing talking. So first of all, tell me how you doing doing this pandemic you and your family. Yeah, it's actually we moved here from Australia in January? So my twelve year old my wife Celts in. I would say, pretty easily the worst time deposits. Hundred Years So. One Thousand Nine Hundred Eighteen Exactly, it's all upside from your very I would agree with that. Well, a lot of small business owners right now are trying to figure out how they can more effectively run their business with better prices with cost-saving apps where do you start? On The first thing I would say is that cloud technology I think has been we'll be seemed to be a real. Savior for a lot of businesses particularly through coded and. I give you an example I think everything from the front end of Your Business. So you know looking appointments things like timely. I can see a of people using figuring out new ways to market their business like your facebook and Google. In fact, if you'll get facebook's recent results that added a million new advertisers, a lot of those are going to be small businesses trying to figure out how to get more people in the door and then things like zero put back. Then to figure out what is actually going with your business and I know everyone is all talks about Cash is king and casual super important. But when you have a shoebox little receipts, it's very difficult to figure out what's happening with cash flow. So and I, kind of you don't running out of cash is almost like. An Iceberg and the sooner you could see coming the sooner you can potentially avoid it and so things like that. Help you do that are really really important always. But in this time, even more important to figure out what's going on your business and just automate as much as you possibly can to free free up your time to work on the business versus in business I think too many small businesses. Honesty that they're gonNA try diy everything and there are certain pieces of software that you can use action at free up to do things in your business. So Tony and your point of view where you actually start because I always say that you can't do everything at one time. What's really the tip of the spear? We'll the first thing that I would do, and this is a really interesting stat when you compare the US versus other markets that were unlike strapping young candidate UK in the US around thirty only thirty percent of small businesses have an accountant or bookkeeper. It's very much a diy mentality and what I would say to people is look we we get personal trainers we get coaching all the time and our daily lives. Yes. Seventy presenting small businesses don't have a coach don't have someone to go to and really talk about their business. And when you think about it, it's a lot of small businesses of debt their house on their business yet they don't necessarily see the value or having thought about getting our coach. So I would say getting a calendar bookkeeper, get a businesses visor it's going to be the best money era we're GONNA stand. So let me ask you a question about that. Why don't people do that? Because I agree with you so many people have no idea what's financially going their business why don't they take that step? Is it that they don't think they need it or they don't want to know what's really going on. Inching. Research over the last six months in their research. It's something to do the pioneering spirit of America where people believe I can do myself do it yourself and what we're trying to say, we tried to move people from Diy d I t do it together and so our research shows us that if A small business ties zero, and they're using an accountant bookkeeper, their survival rates, Shuki sixty percent higher over five years so. Logically. You think I should do that I think part of it is people get so passionate about their dream of writing because they just get into it and usually take some sort of compelling events tax issues or whatever, and when the most secret lies are I would think you know. Clan up from what you're GONNA do and you're probably enemy our data shows you can be more successful Malaga. So that's the first thing I do. Then you're kind of bookkeepers probably GONNA look how you're running your business and and work out with software like zero and others where you making money where you're losing money record to save money. You know and right now what you should be doing is you know renegotiating with your landlord if you can't if you have physical space figuring out of their other avenues, other ways, you can actually get your product to market that maybe aren't a traditional retail sense. So you seeing things like shop with Wind Amazon just explode 'cause you know businesses are trying to figure out how can I sell more product or service in the virtual world because physical world is so challenge that Obama. Tony I wonder if these are the same people that don't balance their checkbook. I don't have the date on that, but you'd argue, yes, I think that's probably true. You know what? They say the penny look after the pennies. The dog themselves. So yeah to it's probably reasonable. It's because we're not really taught these kind of financial concepts in school. Actually it's hard to understand what the profit and loss statement says. The balance sheet says the cash flow statement says and many times there with the wrong accountant that really doesn't take time to explain to them. So they kind of keep their distance from this stuff. I think it's been a chicken and egg I think a lot of our accounts into the paper is there really they want to get into advisory services? That's all they see the growth and Really are passionate about the small businesses that they look after. Talking to some of our Council peepers, curious cove experience, they're really struggling because they're talking to small businesses who are potentially business potentially losing her house. So I think small accountants want to do this, but they kind of need to be invited into the Party needs created a couple of products lately to try to help on accounts to give a reason to actually have that conversation. So something called the business sack shot thirty castles state and our new. Features inside zero where you can literally see in real time what's going on in your business and the thirty day cash will actually give you some insights as the white new should do Ingram plain English for a small business like collect these bills. Hey, this you're gonNA run into cash unless you collect these deals unless you delayed payment of these other bills so. And one thing zero does really really. Well as we we talk in Layman's terms. I think about my Mama's a hairdresser right Sheila Ramos along for twenty five years. She didn't get a peer now or anything like that. Say we use terms like money owed money owing inside zero because like okay I kind of that because I get money all money that's oats me I don't really get profit and loss credits and debits into council I think. Financial Literacy to your point area in small business is is not great because people just want my mum's London runner hairdressing Salon. She didn't WanNa do the books and I think making it easier for people to run their business and having software advisers that that do the boring accounting stuff is really critical to successively small. Wanted to brag about financial literacy because when I sold my last business in one, thousand, nine, hundred, nine told this toward many times before I lost a million dollars off the sale of the company because I send my balance sheet nine MBA for northwestern university. So that's nothing to be proud of. It's it's really really challenging running a small business. You brand businesses I've had small businesses you spend so much of your time and effort certainly some people think are GonNa start a cafe a lifestyle. It's a lifestyle business. Alright sixty seventy, eighty hours. It's it's really really challenging. So anything that software due. To free up some your time to have more time with your family or to grow your businesses is really what we're trying to achieve. This idea of the three day cash flow because again, every business goes out of business. The exact same reason they run out of money and during the recession cash definitely slows down what suggestions would you have for small business owners for managing their cash flow during this period of time. The first thing I would do I would be really really hard core on any money that's actually ot you to collect that to be the squeaky wheel because a squeaky wheel gets the oil in this where we are right now there's a lot of money owed and certainly there are the ones that are actually really persists. are the ones that are going to get it. I'm I would be as I said before I be trying to renegotiate any kind of a large expenses that I have either get more favorable terms or reduction in order to protect your cash flow and then I would be thinking really creatively how I could get on routes to market for my product or service. So if I could I sell more online, there's really creative things that people are doing like I was talking to somebody today who they got a haircut for the first time in you know since March since the lockdown started. Your hairdresser had a physical salon. She wasn't able to have people in anymore. So she was literally going to people's houses and she said now that she probably wasn't going to reopen her physical business that this is really going to be the future of her business and then she was selling product, which you know is generally high margin she had that on. A website where she was promoting products and All the same time. I think you're gonNA see more and more of that sort of creativity. My Wife's still you know getting a personal trainer she's doing it over soon call right so she's not physically going to see this personal trainer personal trainers still making money, but they're doing it over in know a virtual environment versus a physical environment. It's really amazing because there are things that we're doing now that we never thought could be done remotely like my wife again, it's teaching Yoga classes remotely and I'm taking karate class remotely. It's really quite amazing what you can get used to. Yeah I just think it's the Sunders. Certain the research that we have is they're growing they're actually seeing this as as an opportunity and you know there are other business I really feel for you know Pasta Taliban businesses retell the that are doing it really really tough with someone are figuring out new channels new ways to do. So for sure there's GonNa be winners and losers. Like. There isn't every single economic downturn. Feel like it's kind of like a game of musical chairs things are going well in the economy. Excuse me. Things are going well in the economy and all of a sudden the music stops you don't know if you're gonNA have a chair. Yeah and I think you know the really smart service savvy entrepreneurs out. There are going to figure out ways to be successful, and there's going to be just like integrates recession. This is going to be a whole bunch of starting the kind of the hypothesis that we haggas. Particularly millennials every Neil you talked to, you seems to have some side side-hustle right and what's happening is is a lot of people are losing their their jobs, their side hustles becoming their main hustle. So you're gonNA see a whole bunch of new businesses come out of this, and some of them will be really successful on some will some won't make it, but you're definitely seeing green shoots in new businesses starting out. When should people actually choose zero? Of course the elephant in the room is always quickbooks. Why do people choose zero over quick? Book Solutions. I think one of the main reasons they choose it is very easy to use. It's very simple. It's very non accounting language. It was you know we created the category of small business cloud accounting. So we we don't have a desktop business we've always just had a class business so. It's it's built for the cloud doesn't it's not coming from the desktop and moving to the cloud. So I think ease of use. And just. Talked about being Hashtag. Beautiful. It's really nice piece of software to use very intuitive. and. One of the things I find that small business owners make as far as mistake is they don't set up a separate accounting system for their business. They just do it as an extension of their personal accounting system, which really is a problem. Yeah sickly sole-traders when they start out a lot of rooms are mixed kind of discolored business and pleasure or their personal encounter banking account. I would say that that is you know five starting a business. The first thing I do is I would set up a business bank account right and I would basically get some sort of accounting software whether it's you know zero or what have you I would look for the line of business software that is kind of the market leader in the category that I in. So you know in construction, they'd be Pro Gore finding you know running a hair salon. Be Timely find getting all my kind of soft were sorted out, and then I would find a really great accountable infect around flights ten percent of our accountable keeper channel. The people that are zero advisers are almost acting like managed service providers were there. Basically providing a stack of software plus advisory services to small businesses for a monthly fee. So the small business doesn't need to worry about. Well, what should I choose choose? Their their adviser is basically saying if you're in this particular industry, this is the the bundle of software that you need to run your business and all manage it all, and I'll help you with coaching. You run your business and I want everyone to hear what Tony is saying because to many times we don't spend any time setting up the infrastructure for our company and that's really easy these days with these cloud. APPS Tony. It's interesting. You know long time ago when Islands University announced doing. It. Guidance was eighty percent of your time. You're doing it should be planning twenty percent doing and I don't think that's much different for business I think, generally some small. Rush out and getting to it, and they don't think about the planning side of it. But if you don't build the foundations thinking about building a house with the foundation isn't rock-solid. You know, how are you going to build that twenty story building? If you have aspirations to grow your business, you gotta get the foundations down. You GotTa get a coach just set it up right from the start in your our research shows you're going to drastically improve your chances of being successful. We'll Tony I appreciate you joining the show where can people get more information about and that's spelled x. e zero? Zero DOT COM and check it out. There's you can get on there for a free trial and. I hope everyone loves it up everyone stay safe I. Hope all the small businesses out there. I know you're doing itself. We're here to help. Just, take care good life and. Hope you're joining continues to grow.

"A liberal, but I think that that we could see down the road. Vermont. Certainly. Being identified as a place where you know. Maybe, maybe those monsters don't need to be so. Well when these people when these people were rounded up. And taken off somewhere. Are they charged with a crime? What we don't. We don't really know I. It's kind of a mixed bag. It sounds like some of them are. Are being detained it sounds like the charges are ranging from disorderly conduct, often escalate and other charges of. Assault and things where there's no witnesses to to what happened, but I mean it's just a range It's a little hard to discern who you know what to believe and what's what's going on, but I mean the bottom line is that? we probably shouldn't be allowing citizens to be plugged off the street during peaceful protests, and That's the overarching to me. That's the overarching concern than that if That's the level of comfort. We're starting to were discounts that they were starting to. Get close to than you know. What are the best hemp oil benefits?
"Dr CASS Ingram, the head boil. Miracle is one of his books The power of raw Whole food, hemp. Oh, you're better health, Dr CASS Ingram. If you wouldn't mind. You haven't done this in a while and we love when you do this, If you could go back to ancient times and how this plant has been used routinely because you write about it in this magnificent little book, the hemp oil Miracle. And you and you write about the history of hamper. I mean, we've We have many of us had no clue that this was used. For for eons of thousands and thousands of years. Well, you have this Neolithic carvings or painting for about 10,000 BC, where that shows that they were farming hemp and using it as a drug. And the ancient Chinese were using the seed and the plant medicinal, of course. You had the Turks about 10,000 BC. The Mongols Who were raising the seed and using that as a gruel for sick people to get them to recover. It had so much nutrition You have your synth Ian's about 1800 BC five RBC who used to take the more him the more cannabis type him the more more marijuana type, and they would They would. They would throw it on hot rock to then go into a wild frenzy dance as they inhaled the fumes. So, obviously that That was powerful in the time before we hyper dies that manipulated his kind of messed up. And you have, of course, the Islamic on the Greeks who made a anaesthetic from opium or running from him would be almost like the hashish type. And that anesthetic they used for surgery. They weren't getting high on it or something they used. It is a drug to sedate people. They couldn't feel the knife. Feel the surgical I mean, then you had the Indian people who used it as a therapeutic aid, But they would also kind of get a little bit hallucinatory. They would overused it on purpose. They would put it in men's milk. They called it With other spices. But mainly, they used it. Medicinal e ru vedek use such that the British positions. You know, they conquered India right? They found the Indians using that they began doing clinical studies. On him back in about 18 40 that cannabis indica in every doctor's bag back about 18 82 1930 till it got banned. They even banned the drug, right so What kind of hand did not? Yes. So what is hemp Oil? Make the distinction for us, Please. You have hemp oil either from marijuana, or you have it from him Industrial hemp, and what That is, is the resident. The resins and the cannabinoids. Turpin's All the different aromatic compounds you're taking. The oil fraction out of the plant. Now that could could be done by so cannon and alcohol. You could soak it in. Although there's a fatty Fatty layer or fatty component's and it's not the seed. Forget the seat. You compress the seed and make an oil. That's different. This is the plan itself with flour. It could be done with hex ain. This is common now. Beauty and gas, propane gas. And other petro chemicals. You used those to extract out the oil phase or go to which is carbon dioxide, which is harmless, But it's the best one do. That's kind of how it's done.
Zion leaves NBA bubble for 'urgent' family matter
"All right one to turn to this story from inside the bubble, and it's a big one the Pelicans announcing yesterday the Williamson left the NBA bubble yesterday morning. Because of under undisclosed urgent family medical matter now Williamson intends to return at some point here's this coach Alvin Gentry. Don't know anything right now from the standpoint of. Coming back and you know obviously us. We've discussed supportive. Amina's family and their privacy doing this time right now, you know. We played forty four games without him and. You know we have top stretching, and we also had a stretch for. We won twelve out of sixteen. Without Him, so obviously, he's a great player that we'll miss, but the one thing that we've always talked about even when we went through times is that. Next Man. Marc Spears joins US live from inside the bubble at Disneyworld mark. Seems a little unclear as to why he left. What are you hearing about that about why he left at this point? Look the PELICANS are keeping it really really close to the vest, and they've been like that all all season. Way Him, you know this is still a teenager very very protective of their future star, and it's a family matter so I certainly understand that, but when it comes to him coming back, Ryan is really complicated. Absence of seven days or less, he s a quarantine. Four days upon return to the bubble with negative tests needed each day. Longer than a week. He has quarantine for four days. If he has a negative test the final day seven days he has gone. Without a required COA testing he will quarantine for ten days, so the Pelicans will debut. On July thirtieth they're one of four teams that play in the first day to resumption. It's not a lot of time between now, and then they have their first criminals, and just a few days, so yeah. The PELICANS certainly have a lot to worry about in their hopes of trying to get back to the playoffs, Yeah and we certainly wish Zion Williamson, and is it well with this family matter I mean that's first and foremost here hoping they're okay, but I look at this as well and I say without him. What are their chances of moving far into the playoffs structure? Like Alvin said you know. They played forty four games without him. Brandon Ingram the all star. He played most of those games at power forward. Without Zion, but once I came back. He only missed one game, and they have a stretch for by the name of Niccolo Meli. Not Not too hot says Zion has not the game design has I think the average is like seven games seven points a game. He would likely replace Zayn at power forward with Ingram staying in the small force spot, and I. Think drew holiday, said it best. He said you know. As much as it hurts to say, we've done it before in terms of playing without Zayn.

"One of the things that I a conversation have on a pretty regular basis with folks who are trying to sort out cash at this place in my business and I just can't seem to move forward. I've got all these obstacles and one of the first decisions you have to make is okay. Is this a hobby or is this a Business Nathan? Ingram is a fantastic freelancer educator. And coach I met him doing I themes webinars and he always manages to ask the right questions and tee up just the right talking points. I'm to talk to him today about how to manage client relationships. Last week we heard from Erin Flynn about her process or working less and she mentioned the importance of finding the right clients. Nathan is going to dive deeper into that this week. We'll talk about his book on this very topic and then we'll talk about a new project. Recently launched to help freelancers manage those relationships. So let's jump into it before we get started. I want to tell you about my online membership and community creator courses so I know that when you want to learn something new the natural thing he probably do is go to Google or youtube. I do the same thing. And that's really great for one off projects. I used a youtube video to learn how to change a light switch in my house but I am not a big fan of youtube for learning new skills right because there are lots of videos on every topic but which one is best in. Who Do you trust? What order do you even watch the videos in? Will you get the support you need? These are all things that youtube or other potentially Brie videos can't do for you so I started creed or courses a few years ago. With the idea of just putting online courses out there and I decided to morph it into a membership last year so Stop Wasting your time hunting and pecking for the right learning resources and tools over a computer courses. You can become a member and take all of the courses that we have to offer Included in that membership in those courses focus on everything from just basic wordpress up to learning how to build websites without code something. You don't necessarily need to view In this day in age and all of the courses are developed by me. And if you listened regularly you know that I've been a developer for decades at this point and I have lots of experience building websites. I'm a teacher are afraid. Of course it's been linked to learning and things like that so On top of the courses were also a community and members get access to forums and slack and office hours with me and so. I just wanted to let you know about that and encourage you to join if you haven't already listeners of the show exclusively listeners of the show you can save fifteen percent on all memberships including the lifetime membership. All you have to do is visit creator courses dot com slash built. That's greater courses dot com slash. Bu I L D thanks so much. Now let's get on with the show. Hey everybody and welcome to another episode of how I built it the podcast. How did you build that today? My guest is my good friend. Nathan Ingram. He is a growth coach or wordpress business owners. Nathan how are you today man? I'm great thanks for having me on. Thanks for coming on. I always enjoyed talking to you We've interacted multiple times through I themes webinars and at various camps. And today we're going to be talking in general about Clients and client relationships This season has focused a lot on how freelancers and small business owners can grow and their You know people think that I need to charge more or I need more clients but I think what will probably learn today. I don't WanNa leave this conversation too much already. But I've read your book. Is that instead of more clients. You want kind of good quality clients. Is that right absolutely? So quantities always great. But it's much better to have the right kind of client and it's so important. I'M A. I'm a big advocate for freelancing owning your own business you want to position that whatever word you like. Solo per newer my own agency. People describe it different ways but the point being doing work with clients owning your own business owning your own time controlling your life building the life you want using your skills and you know. I've had hundreds of coaching conversations with people around the world over the last several years. And what I've learned is that most freelancers Solo preneurs are one more bad client away from throwing in the towel and that that's really a shame because most of the problems that people encounter can be handled by having great systems and processes in place to keep those clients Fenced in yeah absolutely and I. I agree wholeheartedly lawyer one bad client away from throwing the towel right you have. I've seen people just complain about every client. They have and I really wonder if they they like what they do. Or if they just like complaining but I've made it I you know I've been doing freelance work in some capacity for like half of my life now so I started in high school and I've made it a habit to say no to the people who seem like like nightmares. And you will definitely touch on that because you have a book called dealing with problems finance but why don't we start off? You mentioned that you've done. A Bunch of coaching calls. Tell the listeners. A little bit about who you are and what you do. Yeah sure so. We're a number of different hats at the core of what I do. I I've been building websites for clients since nineteen ninety-five. I've been at this a long time. And really since the very beginnings of the web and in that time I've dealt with fantastic clients I've dealt with awful clients and today even a out. Half of my time is spent Doing client work either building sites managing sites and all of those things. I enjoy it. I've got you know I keep the clients at how want And you know have a good recurring revenue stream. That's been built over the years in my business. Managing wordpress sites But out of that work. I'm Kinda naturally wired to be a teacher and I'm going to be helping people to the day. I die and so really without a whole lot of intention I have stumbled into a teaching role just kind of taking all the things that I've learned over the years both technical and in Business Development Topics and helping people both online webinars in courses as speaking live doing coaching calls one on one and in groups and then speaking at work camp events around the world. Yeah that's fantastic so I I like what you said about. Naturally you're naturally wire to be a teacher. Something that I had a hard time with. Especially in the beginning was I wanted to help people. People needed a website. I viewed it most especially in highschool mostly as a hobby I didn't think I could possibly charge for my hobby and I was Susceptible to doing free or cheap work. Because I wanted to help people. Is that a trap that you fell into. Or if you if you haven't how did you? How do you reconcile that sort of thing? How man absolutely so? That's that's something. I think. A lot of folks struggle with and One of the things that I a conversation. I have on a regular basis with folks. We're trying to sort out. Gosh I'm at this place in my business and I just can't seem to move forward. I've got all these obstacles and one of the first decisions you have to make is okay. Is this a hobby or is this a business because if it's a hobby you can pretty much do what you WanNa do and not worry about making a lot of money but if this is what you are depending on to put food on the table and pay your bills then you gotta get serious and put some great structures in place in your business. Especially if you're a person who is a nice person like you Harjo and you enjoy helping people if you don't have great fences systems and processes in your business to protect you from the friendly monsters which clients can become You're going to end up burning yourself out because you're going to try to help people and you you are if you're not protected from your own Helpful nature buy good systems and processes people will take advantage of you. Suck the life out of you. Yeah I think that's a great point and and it's like you said they're friendly monsters. People aren't necessarily doing this on purpose. Some totally are absolutely those are maybe the easier ones to screen it. Sure they're being totally obvious Actually in as we record this I have prepped. Another episode the advice episode which I will link to In the show notes for this episode which you can find over at how I built dot. It's where I talk about a story of how I had a client who would I didn't? I didn't charge communication. I thought I should only charge.

"And you go in there is the number three pick. And it's like we're not trying to win that has to have on your mental ability. When you go out and play the and now, he's in a situation, you'll lanes I think a lot of people thought he may play mop minutes he's gotten an opportunity and he's really producing. Yeah. All right. What's the answer here? From the big guy, Trey Kerby, go with got from Chicago, you know, ongoing from out of the league. But number great story, anyways, somebody might call del death Lancer. But Brandon Ingram was balm. Last night going career, high thirty six and a loss of the seventy Sixers Ingram has the most cachet of the young Lakers. But someone with the pelicans think Lonzo ball star while. Who's the most point of three so guys what young Laker has the most star potential Ingram ball or Khouzina. That's sorta tough. I think I do picking grim and it's not just because he had a career high night last night. He's had a nice actually run here. Four or five games? He shown flashers you'd give me a little you. Don't think he's got a small feeling for me. I think who's really I think so I think who's got a lot more flair flash game where he's a modern day pal Ford where he's gonna shoot the three approve, of course. But in threes now from Ingram. He's been good. But I just don't really see a big leap from where he is right now. I think he can be a good solid player. But I don't think you can take a big leap than he's kouzmine for me. I think he is. I think he's he's a very versatile player. And I think he's more suited to the game right now. I think Ingram's got more of an old style. So the game. And he hasn't yet showing me that there's a whole Mona go with that the word potential here for me screams, Brandon Ingram because I think he can do it all if he could do it all. Probably put it on the floor a little bit better than Cocker's. I mean, that's the probably the only advantage, but he can do basically everything he can guard. Maybe few more positions shown it a little bit more. From what we've seen the two of them. I think who's my has. And I've said before I think the like is would keep coups murdering ring them if they have to make that Joyce, which maybe they do in the next week or so, but I mean Ingram's getting better. But I just don't think he's quite got all that much for the Ingram's funny. When you watch him, I think worldwide web tweeted last night, he goes from possession to possession looking like, he's either like the future MVP and China, right? Who the next Kevin Durant? It's really true. And if you can consistently put it together, maybe he's not gonna get to Durant level. But I think he screams to me down the line the most that will be an all star of these three guys. I think he will a big part of that would be he'd be the guy that will get you a lot of points. I know coups looking fill it up as well. But it's tough. You can put it on the floor. He's got him. And you literally has the ability to score anywhere on the floor from this point. Well, the problem I think with him though, he's not strong enough being up to be out of really buddy yours at the way. That'll come time as he's buddy feels out. But I just don't seem being really muscle guys at the moment. Last night showed some muscle there. Maybe skinny. All right. What's the answer? Here. I think it's Brandon Ingram as well tasks that he can do a little bit more with the ball in his hands. Plus the Lakers consider him their drip, God, which I think should count for. Let's hear from you guys. John Twitter, hashtag the starters, which young Laker has the most star potential. Hey, maybe it's Josh hurt. Maybe we go back Bill trae test into the crossfire to deliver their autism..

"That's what he was until he learned to shoot the ball and break in play defense. Maybe he can turn into two Trevor REEs, I think that ceiling or even. A little bit better could be there. I think it's a great one the thanking on any. Trevor REEs is not going to stick around there. But it's a win win for Trevor REEs as well. True reason wants to get paid next year. You're not showing off your skills playing on the worst team in like go to Washington if you can help that team a little bit you are the savior. And if not, hey, it's Washington, and no one can save them. I think it's a win win for for him as well. So it's a weird deal. Maybe there are no winners sometimes trade this one is the answer here. Is it the picked a winner? I'm with you guys. I think it's better. It's trying to raise the best player in the trade and the wizard seem happy about it. And they need some holidays here. Honestly cheer up guys anyways moving on Brandon Ingram with the number two pick just go with the soon to be a Lakers building block heading into the season. But according to Pinkas over a Bleacher report rival executive expect Ingram to be traded at some point even though that may be after the season guys. Tell me Brandon Ingram long-term Laker. Or is he a trade chip which got while? I think he's a trade ship right now. I don't think he's caught developed into the play though, hoping for he's sort of stuck a little bit between the three and. Full because he's not really a big bang. He's not down low. And he's game hasn't improved all that much from season two to season three. And I also think caught Kuzina has kind of leapfrogged him in his rotation. Even call it MS more traditional four, he's not a bang. He's out there shooting threes. He's the foster on he's a good defensive player. But Brandon Ingram hasn't quite become that player. And I think the like is probably sense that that might be something in return for a young team to take a flyer on him and give up maybe another asset that the lake is could use the next season or Dan the line. But I just don't think that Ingram has a long-term future right now with the is a part of that though because it's not like you said like coups Ma maybe heart. They fit better with a guy like Raja is this come back to like does Ingram work with LeBron beside him. Well that possible or does he need the ball in his hands? And you're not gonna have that if you're playing besides the can't. Yeah, it's good to bring up LeBron James in this conversation. Because a lot of guys have trouble their first year with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, who's retiring right now just said our first year together, we couldn't figure it out. And then everything clicked so Brandon Ingram. A few months in here. Thirty games in. Yes. He's not playing while he's not playing up to calicoes, MS key capabilities at this point. But I think the Lakers know that and they know playing beside Bron is hard. So let's chill on this. Maybe he's going to be the the fulcrum of their second unit. And if they go into the postseason because you're right. He's got a ball stopper beside the Brian James who Josh heart. They move it. A little bit more Brennan Ingram's not playing to his potential quite yet. But a few months in maybe he's not just a treat. You maybe he is playing a bit more to escape ability. If look if Brandon Ingram can get the Lakers any sort of Anthony Davis, or you know, Bradley Beal, let's say like a big all star type player that they're going to do that..

"That's all I can think of man, I'm not going to be able to enjoy my pre-game shit because it's just a foggy mess. Like, I'm playing in London in the London belltower or something not strangers to talking about moving bows Tomahawk show. But that's a portion of being a player that people don't understand because that's a literal ritual. Probably of at least seventy five percent of the team. You got to squeeze out before you go out on the field because you don't want it to happen in the middle. Halftime when you're all taped up. There's like lines for the for the crapper every stadium. You go to like preview if you don't get there early enough you may not even get the opportunity especially as a lineman. It took me almost thirty minutes to get. My my niece leaves on my elbow pads, my side pads my shoes my ankle tape. My finger taped my wrist tape. And by the time, you put it all together. I look ninja turtle because my fingers are all taped together. So I can't even white my ass if I wanted to and if you had to take. I don't even know how you do it. You'd have to have a trainer come in and help you because there is nothing that's going to happen quickly. Once you get all taped up and you put yourself all together. So you gotta get that thing out. Right. When you get to the stadium before you turn yourself into a superman ninja turtle. I will now that we've lost all of our female listeners in. But hey, we got an enormous show. Oh, like, the popularity of the Tomahawk podcast. Just when you think we can't become any more popular or global this past week going to the Brown stadium being dog on captains leading that team to victory. Well, how we've got people that are calling. Our hotline not just regular people like humongous celebrities in the L A entertainment world, all over the NFL. That are calling the begging to be on the show, and we got a few people today, we got more people next week. The guest list is becoming unmanageable. Thank god. We've got ten people that are on roster that can keep all of that straight. But you know, what people don't realize the last two times me, and you were in Cleveland Browns stadium together, we want to know, I don't realize that actually that's you should like it was twenty sixteen charges game on New Year's Eve, and then this past Sunday to falcon so Tomahawk is always a thing is just everyone else's finally getting benefit including the Cleveland Browns. But you're right. We have a huge show. We got Melvin Ingram who be calling it. We've got. Our guy Eric wet. Oh of the Baltimore Ravens. Always a fun guy. They caught us on the show. So we're going to finally let them open up the phone lines and stuff all to ourselves. We also got a lot of news that's popping up czar. Why don't you just take us right into it? Should we ask how you doing? No, that's not important. Don't worry about me. That's what I was thinking. I just didn't want to live. And I'm glad you said it so. And I appreciate you checking in on me like that. It's really my friends or for our guys. Well, let's just get right into it. Because your former coach hue Jackson is back in the news. Because as of today, he is officially the let me make sure I'm getting this title, right? He is these special assistant to the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals whatever that means. And you know, what else guys Brown's got a buy this week and then they play in Cincinnati to following weekend. What were your thoughts on the news at Hugh Jackson is returning to really the place that sort of made him a a hot head coaching commodity before what happened with the Cleveland Browns. I don't think people realize how good a friends Jackson Marvin Lewis are were have been if you just look at their like relationship there coaching relationship overtime. It will tell you. They're not just acquaintances. They are like real life BFF's. So as soon as the bras, let them go I knew and I thought everyone going to coach for the best. This isn't it wasn't. If it was. I guess it was one hundred percent going to happen. And here we are. It's smart on their points to have done that puck. I don't know about you. But this is the least surprising thing that has happened this NFL season, but has received the most amount of fan shock and awe. I did a bunch of radio shows us morning. And I just couldn't believe that. All these people were surprised that Hugh Jackson just got hired by the Bengals first of all he's getting paid by the Browns. So Mike Brown doesn't have to open up his checkbook, which as we all know, Mike Brown's happy when he gets something for free. He's cheaper than me somehow. So it's not a surprise. Secondly, he knows everything there is to be about Browns roster the offense the defense, and he can easily be a huge asset for Marvin on top of the fact that that's where he came from. And here's a huge friend of Marvin..

It was only right for drew and he such hard worker such a great person such a great teammate, the most down to earth, humble, individual your meat, and he just puts in so much work day in and day out. So for him to be able to reach the milestone all time, passing leader, NFL history. I, I'm super excited him. He deserves it and he's the best ever to do it. So I'm drew Brees advocate. You know, you try to get there early. He's in there watching film already. He's doing the same routine before practice. He he's going through every single read, you know, in routes on air team reps, he just showed you how to be appro. He showed you had to take care of your body, anything you needed to know me just look for drew. He wasn't the only great better than I had around me. You know, other guys like Wilson from Harper, Lance more markets costing urges number guys who you know that were veterans that kinda showed me the way man Kam door and we were rookies man, and it was just a blessing to have guys like that to learn from and grow from. And I've been able to grow withdrew for eight years and appreciate that guy more than anything. 'cause like you said. Man, he just he just shows you how to be a pro. He lead by example, if you need to. He goes encouraging. He's always positive. Never never never negative towards a team mate or towards any situation. So there's a blessing to be over that when quarterback from my career. And so what, what? Gimme your favorite story of him in the huddle, whether it's a comeback or just a a really pressurized play where he came in and did something gimme gimme your favorite brief story. If you have one. Man, there's a million drew Brees stories now, but I remember one time I'm one five, he dropped that man. He something must have happened with the communication of the protection because we have somebody comes scot-free, free, manages blow drew up. He blew drew up in we all over. They try to pick them up. His lip was bleeding. Lip was bleeding, but like next play, right? He wasn't mad. He wasn't frustrated. His lip was still bloody. He called the play, and I think we would to score touchdown the next drive, but it just shows the grit. He had the toughness of him, you know, just for your team to blow protection and you get blowed up the franchise QB guy who we know we can't let him get hit. We know we can't let him you sack. I think the titans of maybe like three years ago, but I think a wreck, poke pain. Free off the edge glue drew lip bleed bleeding. No. And you know he got back with that huddle card to play for us, and we're able to get a first down and and go score a touchdown on drive. So just the grit, you know that he has made it admirable. And when your quarterback is bleeding in his mouth is out of lip, still playing able to focus and still be able to put his team in position have success. I think that just said a lot about his character and how tough he is man, but haven't mean thousand drew Brees stories that we could talk about for hours. So have you ever in a quiet moment brought up with Nick saving being a national champion and Heisman Trophy winner out of Alabama, having the standing to ask Nick saving? What happened in Miami?.

"Different kind of 'cause like basketball you're competing directly against someone so you have an impact on the outcome right when it comes to the yards you don't know being created in the world right so there's no direct competition so you have no room to really think about that you just think about creating finding the nature of the peace and trying to have the piece live up to its fourth potential and like it's truth right and then when you you can't be ward's i mean it's already been decided like there's out of your control right so it's a different kind of i got andre ingram he's joining us in the final hour of the show what was for is that right okay but reggie reg seventies conversation with ridge koby house why did it take a guy that good at three point shooting ten years to get into the league makes you makes you question gm's in the league yeah paulie do we have how many points is andre ingram behind kobe yeah andrea has is thirty three thousand six hundred nineteen points behind kobe on the all time lakers scoring okay yeah we got some work to do but yeah he's off to a great start he's his first game was better than mine what do you remember about that first game i didn't play what do you remember about the first game you played yeah no i was glued to the bitch that's what that was but no andrea ingram man would've story you know being able to have the determination to stay with their dream for ten years that that belief that conviction that's go ahead and then they get the opportunity into not capitulate to that price because you know chasing something for ten years and now that it's here pressure can get the people and it didn't i mean he's just stepped right into that light man and off you went so this is just the beginning for him now it's incredible.
