"The Dow is down one hundred and seventy points this hour the NASDAQ's squeaking into positive territory up by two. I'm Marie Osborne. WJR news. Our next update is at four o'clock or whenever news breaks. Welcome back to a more guy. Gordon coming to you direct from the fourth annual inform empower prevent let's end campus sexual assault summit guy. Sponsored this morning by friends of the first lady of Michigan once again live from western Michigan university in Kalamazoo. Here's guy, Gordon. And as we said earlier, it has only by happenstance that as we discuss campus sexual assault here on the campus of western Michigan university that too high profile sexual misconduct cases are also dominating the news. We've been talking about the situation with a supreme court nominee Brett cabin in Washington. And we got you up to date on that. But a major issue now in the gubernatorial campaign here in the state of Michigan between Gretchen Whitmer and Bill Schutte is the handling of the Larry Nassar investigation and prosecution while Gretchen Whitmer was the interim county prosecutor in Ingham county and Monroe Marie. This is just one of those things that I think it's really difficult for those. That don't know the the the investigative in the prosecution process to try to figure out who's telling the truth here was telling the truth. Right. And you know, it's almost like who's going to take ownership of doing the best job in handling the biggest sex abuse case we've ever had in the state of Michigan. This almost like, you know, they're just trying to grab for who's going to take credit for that will credits who's tough enough to go forward solve all of Michigan's problems, regrettably. This is in the rear view. It's not about Michigan's future. And I think that's something that may cause Michigan voters to get frustrated but now enters on Saturday afternoon, Rachel Denhellender who was the primary whistle blower in the Larry Nassar case. Coming out and saying that that no Gretchen Whitmer office did have when she was prosecutor, though, police reports the victim statements, and the means that the statute of limitations did allow for prosecution. She says in this statement and yet that prosecutor's office decide decided not to move forward. And that is the owners that Bill Schutte has been throwing it Gretchen Whitmer saying that not only was that she was derelict in her duty. But that she's been lying about it ever since. And it wasn't there. Also, an issue that the the prosecutors thought they could have a better chance of prosecuting the case under the child pornography charges that were brought against Larry Nassar instead of these sex abuse charges. There's there's no question. And there was also according to them a concern about whether or not because these the victimization occurred in multiple jurisdictions that it made more sense to conceal. The cases under the AG's office. But that's not what Rachel is saying here and to be clear, not only was she the lead whistle blower. But she is also an attorney who followed this process. And and she says she says it is accurate that the attorney general's office was called because and this is in italics that had been made not to prosecute any sexual assault claims, including mine and Kyle Stevens. And quote by the Ingham county prosecutor's office is then led by Gretchen Whitmer. Right. Right. So she has weighed in pretty heavily on on this topic. And clearly as against what Gretchen Whitmer is is saying happened, right? And not just Gretchen Whitmer assistant. Prosecutors that are still in the Ingham county system. The chief assistant is Lisa McCormick. And she says it is categorically false to suggest. Otherwise, she says as Email records public documents in the county. Prosecutors records managements confirms the prosecutor's office never received police reports warrant requests or witness list from MSU's police department and the chief in all of this is largely staying silent. He is not getting into the fray chief Dunlap right end in Hollander, by the way, has her own Email. She said saying where they decided to pass on the on the prosecution of the Nassar case, that's what she says. It is interesting and she ends on this note. And I would I wonder if either candidate is taking heed. Rachel says we at our stories are not political pause to be used by either side of the aisle. I sincerely hope that this will end the only people who should bear the slogan tough enough to take on Larry Nassar are the nearly two hundred women who showed up an Eaton Ingham county to testify and ensure the full breadth of his crimes were punished accordingly. I think a lot of people would agree, right? Yeah. But nobody is going to come off looking good here. And so while it may make for a powerful and thought provoking an attention getting spot. I don't know that either side is served well by making this a campaign issue. It is such a tragedy of epic proportions. We'll we'll see if either one back so often we'll be continuing to one. I think just like you said, I think voter fatigue on this topic is going to be very swift. If if they're if they if they're not careful of how it's handled I agree. And they're going to say, you know, what it's not going to get my kids educated not going to get our roads fixed, and it's not going to get my taxes. Exactly. So we thank you as always three forty two on news talk, seven sixty WJR. The lions a stunning win last night at upset victory over the dreaded New England Patriots. What's behind it? And doesn't mean we've turned the corner we'll talk with Lomas Brown next this guy. Gordon? I'm here with certified elder law. Attorney Glenn Madison do people that have gone through a state planning tend to have a false sense of security. They may not realize that there could be a big surprise if you have to put mom and dad in long term care facility. Yes. And I think there are two sides law. There's an estate planning side, and there's an elderlaw sign the elderlaw site actually deals with how are we going to protect your? Assets and make sure you have the best care possible. While you're here. How soon should we start considering contacting at attorney everybody should at least have that discussion even early on. You know, when you're a younger person with young children to protect from a long-term care standpoint. The foundational plan you should get in place as early as possible. So you don't have to worry about it down the line. How aware are the majority of families about the financial impact of this. Did they underestimate with the financial impacts going to be or do they tend to be overestimating? No, they underestimate and and the cost of skilled nursing homes averages over eight thousand dollars per month. And when people come into the office, the three things that they always here out there are if I have a loved one in the nursing home. I'm going to lose my home. I have to spend every dime. I before I can get help with governmental benefits for long term care or if I give away assets within five years of applying. Governmental benefits, I'm disqualified. And all of those things are false to who are the family members that would most benefit from having the specialize service that you can provide. So there are a couple of things a lot of times we're dealing with spouses. So if there is a husband and wife and one of the spouses is going into the nursing home a lot of times, we're dealing with the spouse that's outside of the nursing home. But also, we're dealing with the children were dealing with the sons and the daughters..
