"Yesterday, marked two years since my beloved friend and tremendous maverick filmmaker and producer Robert Evans died. There's so many dates I carry in my head. We all do. And I'm a little embarrassed to say, you know, some dates are getting a little fuzzy up there. I'm getting older. But for whatever reason, my heart, the last two years anyway, always sends me a red flare up to my head whenever October 26th is coming. Anybody who knew Evans or kid as he was called, as you know, and he also called you kid back. So all you did was call each other kid. I had a couple of friends like that, Bo diedel. Calls himself bone. He calls you though. Some people are like that. But so many of us can not forget the day he died. You know, it was a very rough thing. I mean, we knew he'd never live forever. And a lot of us were there when he had that those terrible strokes that began to debilitate him and take away a little bit of his brilliant mind, but if still, when you heard about his passing, it was shocking. And I wrote in my first book much of which was written while I slept in his beautiful guesthouse on woodlawn drive in Beverly Hills behind the huge iron gates and the winding driveway, and of course that fountain in front of the door of the huge fighting cock as in rooster, but with Evans, it clearly meant another thing. But I wrote in the forward of my book when I was thanking people, I said something like, you know, God bless Robert Evans, I don't want to live in this town without you. Something that affect and I, you know, I couldn't, I couldn't feel the way any stronger right now. He's gone. I'm not there. Currently, but I'll be there in a week or so. And I don't want to be there. Not to say that LA doesn't have some attributes and of course it does, but I don't want to live in that business, let's say. Without Evans a few miles away to talk to and found some questions off of or just shoot the shit. And I said that when I wrote the book in 99, 2000, I want to came out actually. I wrote it in 92nd, 96, 97. And here I am. In 2021, two years with him gone and no, the town holds very little glamour without him there.

Now the question around gender and sport is do we want to debate this honestly, all with the go to mechanism of the age wokeness and denial. We've got to study. From the university of technology in Sydney published in the British journal of sports medicine arguing that scheduling of major sporting events is 6th. Treating women's finals as a warmup event to the means sends a message this second class citizens very might have sort of stopped this. Now the key weakness in their argument is basically exemplified by one of their examples. They say at the 2016 Olympics, the Rio Olympics 25 hours of competition with scheduled for means of ints on the Sunday of prime time viewing versus two for the women. The keywords there are would have thought a prime time. The argument over pay and reward can be added to this debate as well as you'd like. And what the people who do these studies never want to say or admit is sport at the highest level has very open, honest instruction criteria. Those who earn the most, get the most and that applies to funding, wages, and time on the telly. Scheduling based on gender, like paying based on gender, is a falsehood because what the public wants pays the bills. Occasionally women's sport does brilliantly, of course, the England women's football team in the Euros brought the nation to a standstill. I think we'll take as a nation ini middle in the Olympic Games doesn't matter what the gender is, but professional sport generally is paid for by ticket sales, bums on seats and broadcast rides. And broadcast rights are paid for based on the numbers that watch, we watch more men sport than women's. Will that change? Good at change, hopefully so, but for now it hasn't. So we are sky TV recently for ratings around the black films Australia games. It took them two days to drum up the most tragic press release I've seen in a while, a full page that said essentially nothing, and certainly didn't contain the answer to the simplest of questions how many people watched. And they didn't tell us, well, they tried to fudge it because guess what? The numbers aren't that good. Yes, girls seeing women play will help. Yes, women winning will help. But as we grow these sports, let's try and be a little bit on a show. We about the realities and what funds them. A means final is scheduled after a women's final because of the bottom line because of the numbers, because of the fact that what pays the bill, not academics, arguing a gender ideology. I don't know where else I would be on a Sunday. Is it possible we might have hit? A little too much coverage. When it comes to events like yesterday's vigil, where Harry's there in his uniform, people are able to see the dynamic between him and William, it adds almost something of a soap opera drama to the coverage that people can't help but find fascinating. One is clear as they've come from far and wide and all walks of life. What we're seeing, of course, is the arrival of President Biden by seeing multiple arrivals of heads of state. "History. It wasn't. That was a lie. But to say he's a liar, well, then I'm trying to get inside his head sort of attribute motive to what he's doing. But I think it's very important that if something is untrue, we say it is untrue. Can I jump in here? Somebody really important here about that does go back to some of the Adam said about lying and the consequence of the Brexit referendum. And without rerunning all of those arguments, there is no doubt in my mind that lies were told, there is no doubt in my mind that Boris Johnson became prime minister in part on the back of his success in the Brexit referendum. And that Boris Johnson has told many lies in his political life as prime minister. They are very rarely called out on the BBC all across most of the media. Well, you're right. You won't hear the word lie on the BBC, though I would say that there are many circumstances I can think of where it's been pointed out that something the prime minister has said is not true. Let me ask you a broader point, particularly Alistair and Adam, but John, I'm interested to get you to think back to your experiences in Washington and Westminster of the daily pressure Adam that governments try to exert on journalists and news organizations, the idea that that call that came in after Emily maitlis, monologue, that would have been, it wouldn't be unusual for the government to call up the BBC, would it? No, and it's actually it dates back to a certain extent in my experience to alasdair's period where there was a more hands on dealing with the media and a willingness to take up complaints, which I don't think we necessarily experienced either when Gus O'Donnell was representing John Major or previously with Bernard ingham, I think we knew where they came from, but they were more entitled to see that as part of the weather.

"And i. it couldn't be for the from the truth. First off casting is a lot of work like you're gonna. I wouldn't have said like great job having five hundred podcast if it just took twenty minutes to do the whole thing right like there's a lot of work that goes into being a podcast hosted people don't see producing episode to get it done the. There's just a lot of steps along the way so one. It's more work. And people realize in other thing as inept false expectation like we just assume listeners ingham everywhere no you've got to know how to find your ideal audience like you have to know how to find them and show them that exist. People are not waiting around searching for your podcast that hasn't been created yet like they don't just show up the day that you make it so it's up to you to get out there and do the marketing as well. So now you're like not only running this huge process like the system. That is a podcast. But now you're also go out and market yourself if you're if you're like i'm just not really natural marketing person. It's tough for you to really get some traction. But i think it all comes from that this expectation that we have on what it could use and it truly can become that but just not as easy as we think that it would be yet. I think there's a couple of really great points. There you think. Well joe rogan his wage arrogance. Because i don't know what episode number he's at but it's of it looks well other the thousands is not and and Who is at the tent. You have to do it ten thousand times before you considered an expert will before so really for me it's I was again talking to wag yesterday about the early episodes. And i listened back to some of my early episodes and on cringing. You're brave or listen awful. Actually there are some good ones too. And i i know what the difference is which is interesting in an of itself. Because it's around. The the the relationships are the paper that i had on where i had a long standing relationship already established and because they actually were ideal guests for me i brought him onto the show and obviously that's said yes when i asked them regardless of the fact that i was just a new starting up and that was really good because there was a relationship there and so the conversation was expensive pickle. It already had a relationship that the other thing is that you know keeping going in that and learning from what you're doing is is a big thing netzer consistency and just taking action on that improving all the time and i think that's true of anything of just park house. Yeah it really is true of anything you read those ten thousand our rule i guess if popularized by malcolm gladwin i forgot who originally said it but it is true in..
Britney Spears' Enemies Are Being Deposed
"So the latest information I hear about this Britney Spears conservatorship situation, the remaining things that are left to handle is Jamie spears attorney, the really nasty Vivian thorin. She's like gonna get deposed for the way she was so complacent in the conservatorship arrangement and she called as a witness and she was called as a witness in the civil and criminal trials. My source is also looking in at her even being called as a party, which would be amazing. Daddy spears will be investigated for financial mismanagement and fraud. I said this from day one, I swear I think is gonna get prison time. 'cause we're potentially looking at years of litigation. But Vivian thorin is implicated in this and a lot more. The company she worked for Holland and knight, they're trying to play cool. They're acting like, you know, we were on interested in litigation, like they turned down a job offer of some shit. The truth of the matter is this whole mess with Britney Spears has become a liability to the reputation and integrity of that firm. Vivian Thorne showed himself to be an embarrassment and a failure. She lost. She was schooled by Britney's attorney Matthew rosengart. She was schooled in court. A senior partner at a firm like Holland and has to know better. Her career may well be over. I mean, she's going to be in court soon and not as an attorney. The question is, once she's there, who will she throw under the bus? Will it be Jamie spears? Will it be an older attorney, Sam ingham? Will it be black box security? Will it even be judge penny? A lot of a lot of things can happen there. But all the players in the conservatorship, they're lowering up Britney is pissed, she doesn't want to build any bridges, especially with her family. Daddy spears, like I said, I believe it will go to prison if he doesn't, I will lose all faith in the legal system and so will my friend, my source, who's in the legal system because the evidence he says is stacked to the ceiling against

"Jared josh will be covering the rain for you all season long. So we're going to operate into this. First question is what will the goaltending rotation be at this point. They're still to the best. My knowledge five goals in ontario. No jerry shaking your head no There there has been some gold senators that have went down. The rain have not announced anything. Officially as of this this moment but greenville did announce the john leathermans join their training camp roster so john lennon will be starting season with the greenville swamp. Rabbits and lucas. Parikh is also expected to be the epl as well on destination. Still being discussed. I'm not a hundred percent at this moment. I think by maybe the time that everyone listening to this podcast. That'll be worked out. But lucas also not going to start in the rotation either so that leaves us with three little breaking news there but but definitely changes the this question of what the rotation is going to be. It looks like the rain are going to start the season with three goaltenders josh. That's still a fairly uncommon Number of goalies for a team to have. Yeah yeah it is in. Which is why. Jared kind of alluded to the fact that the destination for lucas parade has not been really confirmed yet. And i think that with ingham having been in greenville the easiest shell last year. I think it's a it's a fair assumption to which you know don't want to do but i would guess that parikh does not end up in. Greenville either just in case Ingham for whatever reason does go. Down to the gel at some point which. I don't think we'd be surprising. But yes so. Three goalies at the moment To that i think are going to the most constant. As as i'm sure jared would Would confirm as well would be garret sparks and matt anvil alta and in terms of. What the rotation actually looks like between those two. My impression has kind of changed a little bit from the beginning. And that was something that we had discussed a little bit when we did the arizona games for the rookie face off and then Through jared's coverage at rain camping and development camp. I think that my impression has a little has changed a little bit from maybe garrett sparks kind of considered the kings number three and now maybe matt is considered the kings number three goalie..

I do all the time is i go. You know what. I'm not worried about this. But he'll sit in an mri machine ever been in machine. It's not that bad people but if you're a little claustrophobic it's not that great. Either it's uncomfortable. You gotta sit there. You got a little ish somewhere. I know if. I have to sit still. My mind gets starts playing tricks on me. I'm like my legs. Just i got you said you're in the mri machine for a hot minute boy. And it's a little claustrophobic in there. And anyway it's not pleasant. You don't wanna do it for nothing. Todd archer tweeted dak. Prescott has no soreness in his right shoulder after throwing the last two days. That's good news. He will undergo an mri when the cowboys back texas practice next week and play twenty-first versus houston if cleared. I mean getting an mri. I always get him. Mri's is anytime not worried about something every time like right now raj you know like i don't have a great back and this and that but my left arm feels fine. I think i'm going to go get an mri just to be safe. There's nothing to worry about the cowboys insist. There have been no setbacks. Here's dak cow deck cowboy dak prescott on how frustrating the shoulder strain is what they're calling it is. It's tough we'll go. This certain organizations in teens doctors that you question. I don't question anything remotely close to that medical staff down there. If they say he's a go and there's nothing really seriously wrong with him then. I have no problems when he had his ankle issue. That's why i was so adamant the entire time that this ankle was an issue. Everybody oh this. And i kept trying to tell people pay this do. There's nothing he's coming back. One hundred percent healthy. This was at the beginning stages of the injury. Because when you know people that's going to tell you he's okay right and you can trust that you can now go with that and feel comfortable saying that. Now make it clearly. You obviously played in dallas. You know a lot of the people on the train to still there. yes absolutely. They've been there forever and it's been confirm to you that he's fine. "Happened that we have all been waiting for judge. Brenda penny ruled that brittany could choose her own attorney. Yes and it is a moment. A longtime come in for years honestly but definitely since britney's hearing in june when she gave that scathing testimony about her abusive conservative ship. Yeah now the hearing was not open to the public and brittany. Wasn't there in person. She called in like she did last month's hearing and no one really knew if she was going to say anything. Or if she's just gonna listen in. Yeah but she said things and it got emotional. Yes so she repeated her desired and the conservator ship saying quote. I'm here to get rid of my dad and charged him with conservative ship abuse. Yeah and this isn't the first time brittany's called her dad out yet it's the first time she's explicitly. Said she wants to charge him with conservative abuse. Yes so brit added. This conservative ship has allowed my dad to ruin my life. Said she's extremely scared of him. She also claimed that her father jamie spears and others involved in the conservative ship had threatened her and because she said in the past. She's not willing to undergo medical assessments to free her from her conservative ship. She also added instead of investigating my capacity. I want an investigation on my dad. Yeah get it. I mean while that was the biggest bombshell the biggest question was who would be allowed to represent brittany in this conservative battle. Yeah so as we said. Yesterday she's been working with court. Appointed attorney sam ingham for the last thirteen years but he filed a petition to resign after her testimony month probably because she basically called him out for reportedly not doing his job telling her she had the right to petition the court and the conservative ship. Yeah and when it came to finding a new attorney. She did her homework. She ended up picking matthew rosengard. And he's basically like attorney to the stars like we said represented ben affleck steven spielberg and keanu reeves. But we had to wait until yesterday to see if the judge would actually give the official okay and she did mike firm going to be taking top about one thing that everybody has lost sight of is what is in the best interest of britney spears so britney's old attorney bye-bye and also by to bessemer trust so since last november they were the co. Conservator alongside jamie spears. But after brittany's testimony last month they asked to be removed. Yes so judge penny ruled the bessemer trust's resignation would be effective immediately so right now. This means britney's dad is technically the sole conservator of all her estate. Which means her money. Yeah which is super scary and concerning and frightening just so glad. She's got matthew rosengard her new attorney. Who said at the hearing yesterday. He told the court that if jamie loved his daughter he would resign today which her each. Yeah but outside the courthouse. He had even more to say in. Anyone disagree that it is not in the best interest of conservative james speers to be poking server so yes pursuing britney spears instructions we will be moving properly and aggressively for his removal western remains. Why is he involved. He should step down voluntarily. And then we have jodi montgomery. She's staying in charge of brittany's personal fares for now so that covers the earth. Control therapy appointments. Whether or not britney can marry her boyfriend. Sam jody's handling it all right now. Yeah and britney has said. She's fine with jodie staying in that role jody's basically a professional conservator. So she's licensed to handle these kinds of things. But jamie's attorney vivian. Doreen says it's jodie. Who's been responsible for a lot of things brittany complained about during her previous testimony. Honestly jamie and his lawyer could be like your name is brooke. And i'd be like you know what i i don't think it is anymore like i don't believe a word you say so. Who knows what's true. All we know. Is that britney. Says she can't live her life the way she wants to. Yeah so much finger pointing of like it's not me. I swear it's this other person. that's listening. britney it's like it's all of you. yes but after yesterday's rulings britney supporters including us where so hopeful that this is actually truly the beginning of the end of our conservative yes and brittany shouted out to her fans. Yes so britney posted a heartfelt. Thank you on instagram. With a video of her riding horseback and doing cartwheels which is how. She says she celebrating. She also posted in the caption. You have no idea what it means to me to be supported by such awesome fans and she posted hash tag. Free brittany blew my mind. It's like he's in on it. She knows she sees us. She sees us. Yes and i feel like her songs. Stronger is more appropriate now than ever before..

Goes the guy that the court appointed to brittany over a decade ago. Sam ingham and incomes attorney to the stars. matthew. Rosengard i mean. Listen when i hear the phrase attorney to the stars i immediately start thinking game over. Yeah about time. "Ships and guardian ships was fascinating. I grew up in a family with Significantly disabled people You know. I have friends who are significantly disabled. Probably a lot of people in this group on this call listening out there Either know someone who has been in a guardianship of one type or another or has had a loved one that they've had to place in in guardianship and you know it's it's an interesting legal system to explore rape because in many cases it's important and welcome If you have someone who is in a genuine state of incapacity It's important to have a system in which we can allow loved ones to help them either through a hard time temporarily or long-term but then you have a population of people who test the outer limits of this question of to whom that restrictive structure should be applied and britney spears. Is you know. In addition to being a subject of fascination on a personal level which we can get into For for the american public for years and years also a test case for conservatives ships and guardian ships and the ways in which today can be abused so for me this was never you know just a a sizzling entertainment story about pop star or even something i i also think is true of the story. Namely it's a heartbreaking chronicle of a human being in a state of struggle. I think it's also something that's even more significant. Which is it. Reveals a corner of the court system that can be underregulated and yes can lead to useful and helpful outcomes but also can really get badly abused the limits on her freedom. Can you go through some of the details. Because when i'm hearing things like she can't have an iud removed. I can't even begin to understand what world we're living in here. Yeah she is a nearly four year old woman She has over the course of this. Thirteen year conservatorship For at least the early years of it performed and made tens of millions of dollars The administrators of this conservatorship have in many cases profited richly off of this arrangement We talk about how her court appointed lawyer Was making a in the neighborhood of half a million dollars a year off of this situation You know her father and other members of her family who were involved either in maintaining or creating this ship Have also at various points been financially dependent on her And then you have britney spears at the heart of all of this and despite all of that on a very very limited weekly allowance that at times has been just you know a couple of thousand dollars when she was making tens of millions of dollars She has a as you pointed out. Alleged sort of handmaid's tale style limitations on her basic bodily automation and reproductive rights. You know she has said that her lawyer her court appointed lawyer saying emma ingham did not inform her of her ability to file to get out of this situation An through all of this. There's a through line that emerges of her wanting to be a mom and see her and even a lot of the early cases of evident public distress that led to her being placed in this situation were directly after she tried to see her kids in the midst of a custody dispute and was denied access to them so far from the picture that emerged in the tabloids of you know a wacky popstar spinning out Yeah whether you could say that's also true or not. I think there is another dimension to this which is a mother Possibly by the accounts of many people near her In retrospect seem to be struggling with postpartum depression was struggling with the difficult custody. Fight You know may have been depressed. There may have been many other mental health. Diagnoses a play here But you know not Someone who was just over indulging in the way. The tablets made out and who as a result has paid really dear price in terms of her basic freedoms. You do such a great job a deaf job of slaloming through reported facts and also offering the nuance and perspective. That's needed around these things. That has some opinion in it. As well reported a opinion exhaustively back the pinion but in your view. What are the worst ways. She has been wronged well. I think it's telling.

"So how did Britney Spears is? Life change in practical terms under this conservatorship. Profoundly. So she in the last few days has finally spoken in open court, uh, and gave searing testimony, saying that she feels enslaved is a word that she used That she feels like she has been robbed of her ability to make decisions about her life, her career whether she works or not the kind of medical attention she receives, she says that she has been in voluntarily placed on lithium and other drugs that she's not comfortable with the medicating decisions being made for her. She says that she has an I U D in her and would like to remove it to have a family and is not being allowed to do that. So basic questions of bodily autonomy. You know are are at stake here. And she says that this is traumatic and inappropriate. And you know, I want to note this isn't simple, David. Multiple judges have now presided over this conservatorship. Uh, we're told by sources associated with her camp that maintains the conservatorship that there are, you know, genuine mental health diagnoses that require attention. But what legal experts who have looked at the situation say and what a lot of people who are close to the conservatorship who now have doubts about it say is, one can have serious and significant mental health or addiction struggles and, and the correct policy decision is not necessarily to take away most of their adult rights. I'm not lying. I just want my life back, and it's been 13 years and it's enough It's been a long time since I've owned my money, and it's my wish in my dream For all of this to end without being tested again. It makes no sense whatsoever for the state of California to sit back and literally watched me with their own two eyes. Make a living for so many people and pay so many people, trucks and buses on here on the road with me and be told I'm not good enough. But I'm great at what I do, and I allow these people to control what I do, ma'am, and it's enough. It makes no sense at all. Gea. This conservatorship began in 2000 and eight It's now 13 years later. Why has it taken so long for this to become a controversy of public matter in the way it has. I know that there's a bit of free free Britney and movement has been around for a while, but it's really reached its Its zenith now, huh? I think that there are several underlying factors. I'll start with the dimension to it. That is. Well, meaning I think that there was something of a media retreat in sort of apology for past invasiveness, right. I think that there's also as the discourse around mental health has developed. And by the way, you know, we spoke to so many people that were close to Britney around the time she had her Children, and they said nobody brought up postpartum depression at the time. You know, I think that It's It's something that many people have brought up. It's something that certainly I can understand in a visceral way right now that dealing with you know, even ordinary postpartum depression, let alone that with flashbulbs, you know, with men climbing the palm trees in your backyard and taking pictures of you and your infant. You know it would lead I would lead me to self medicate. Personally, I can just say that for myself and anyway, so as the discourse around mental health has become more compassionate. There's also become an understanding that you know for a family dealing with a member in genuine mental health crisis. Sometimes actions have to be taken that don't make sense to outsiders, right so people Have thought, you know this. This is an extreme structure that is supposed to be for, you know, 95 year olds with severe dementia. And if Britney Spears is under it, and if the court is supervising it, and if they're going back and hearings every year, then there must be some sort of airtight medical reason for this to exist. And this is the narrative that her camp by sealing by sealing so many court procedures by sealing off the records by You know if we if we go by what Britney said in the hearing by night, you know, by not telling her that she could terminated by by doing all they could to keep it going. It seems like the camp has wanted the public to think you know, this wouldn't this wouldn't exist for a reason. The system is not set up for abuse. But we've spoken to lawyers to disability rights experts to point out that Conservative ships are often also recommended for Children with disabilities once they turn 18, and this is something that the A C l U and others have been fighting against sort of saying that once used conservatorships Essentially deemed someone incapacitated and from that point because they do remove your rights by necessity. They they sort of foreclosed the possibility of proving or gaining capacity. To anyone under it, and so in a way You know, it's it's in a way. The conservative ship structure is almost self perpetuating, because which is why I think the issue is recommending that this should be an option of last resort, because once you're in it With, you know, almost always with council that you did not appoint that the court chose for you. You know, you sort of lose the ability to contest it as Britney spoke to in court, Ron and let's talk about the conservative ship in less abstract terms. Who are these conservators? And what are their motives? So for for years, Jamie Spears, Britney Spears's father was the conservator of both her personal and financial affairs. And in more recent years, Britney Spears has objected repeatedly to this, and he has been Removed as the conservator of her person and a temporary conservator has been appointed by the court. A professional who specializes in doing that. Nevertheless, Jamie Spears, her father still exerts a tremendous amount of control over her life. We talked to multiple sources around and close to this conservatorship who felt that Sam Ingham Britney Spears is court appointed lawyer. Is loyal to Jamie and the conservatorship first and Britney second, um, and that certain personal things that she was reporting to Ingham were being fed back to Jamie in a way that many of these Spectators found uncomfortable and inappropriate..

"Sam ingham seems to have met britney may be two days after the court ordered conservatorship had been placed upon her that her right to have a five day notification period had been waived it seems like his representation of her was so inadequate that she you know. We talked to so many people who said that for the next year and a half. She was essentially nonstop trying to get another lawyer and there were three lawyers that came into the picture. All of whom were effectively thrown out on the basis of brittany spears has been found to be incapacitated and she does not have the capacity to hire you as the lawyer. And so it's this unbreachable a catch twenty two when you're in. This is something that i've been bringing up. Is that the kind of conservatorship that britney's under a probate conservatorship. It's not even for people who are having mental health. Crises in california. That's a different kind of conservatorship called the l. p. s. conservatorship and the probate conservatorship is very specifically for people. Who will not get better for whom that is sort of an absolute certainty whether by age or terminal condition or something like that but there are plenty of people with disabilities who have been placed in the position. That britney's in the lawyer that gave us that murderer quote famously broke up. One of the most high-profile conservatorship cases in the country. Before this a woman named johnny hatch. Who has down syndrome and was placed under conservatorship after an accident but anyway many people with disabilities have found themselves in this position where formerly deemed incapacitated. They lose any avenue to prove or use their capacity at all. There's something so strange about the kind of pushback you hear from whether it's anyone representing the consider ship or or from this attorney or from larry rudolph the manager. Who resigned today. This idea that like there are these very specific arguments made about the specific set of facts. But then you step back. We hold on a second. This is an international pop star performing regularly. that is high level work. That is somebody using a great many faculties every single day performing going out on stage meeting fans doing all of these kinds of high functioning activities and yet she has denied the basic rights to kind of control her own destiny as she said in her own testimony you know denied her reproductive freedom tonight any kind of to choose to have a family in looking at this conservatorship issue. Did you find any examples anywhere of someone under a conservatorship having this level of employment of ongoing kind of career activity anywhere ever the experts. We talked you're definitely founded unusual. Mean britney spears test the outer limits of the kinds of people to whom this extremely restrictive type of conservatorship as jia points out should be applied and so we are in some respects in kind of untested territory where we have seen after article of rudolf. Step down now. Ingram stepped down in him filed paperwork requesting that a new court appointed counsel be put in place. And so it's sort of anyone's guess. Because this is such an idiosyncratic case how this is going to play out at this point and weather britney spears will be allowed any autonomy in finally choosing her own attorney for instance or whether the weight of the sames re behind the scenes diagnoses that defenders of the conservatorship invariably point to will continue to prevent her from doing that. Yet one thing that. I i guess bessemer trust which was overseeing the finances on behalf of the conservatorship. They're claiming a we're withdrawing..

"Dot gov and we're back joining us today to new yorker writers and new york times bestselling authors who just published a bombshell investigative piece about britney spears conservatorship nightmare. Jia tolentino and ronan farrow. Thank you both for being here. Thank you for having to be here. You had to pull the strings to get on this show all right. Yeah we were your weird half. You're in the hallway. I'm in here. thank you for. Sgx thank you for being here for this to be here. It's there's a serious topic. Obviously but i've never interviewed ronin and someone else so this is like a urine extremely odd place inside of this dynamic. Let me just dive right in. So britney spears lawyer pointed by the court samuel ingham. The third filed a motion to resign. As her attorney in her testimony. Brittany said ingham has been scared for me to come forward and it sounds like she as she describes it didn't know her basic rights. What do you make of ingham's role in this conservatorship as an advocate for britney spears in she called into this hearing and the lawyers representing the conservatorship immediately tried to suggest that the room should be cleared. If sensitive topics arose that the transcript should be sealed and she said no. I want to be heard and then as she got to talking she released suggested some allegations about the way in misrepresented her. That are seriously problematic for any attorney as an attorney myself. You never wanna hear a client. Say i was not advised of my basic right to get out of this situation or avenues to terminate it. So what we've seen in the leaks around. His departure is sources familiar with his thinking. Air quoting that implying that he is quite mad about this that he's defiant in suggesting that he did advise her in the ways that he needed to. But you know what i found when we dug into transcripts is it seems like there was a situation where in was chummy at times with the judge on this case and where there were conversations were in fact at times they joked about not telling spears things. There's an exchange that the times first reported a while back where the judge ingham talk about not telling britney that she can get married if she wants. So you do sort of see a pattern. That seems to suggest that spears's take on. This has something to it and i think that that would be alarming to any lawyer and prompt any lawyer to want to get the hell out of dodge. There's one piece of it which is just was this lawyer doing an adequate job of representing britney spears or did you have other kinds of entanglements and then there's this larger question about the rights of prison in a conservative ship. Even when those rights are being represented faithfully one thing you say and the piece is britney could have been found holding an axe and severed heads. Saying i did it and she would still have had the right to an attorney but under a guardianship. You don't have the same rights as an axe murderer. It's also strange to me that this is a court appointed attorney. Because she's a wealthy person able to afford her own attorney right. You talk a little bit about the rights that people under conservative don't have. This is the only. I think the only corner in the legal system where you can have a court appointed counsel that you then we'll pay the maximum for sam. Ingham has been five hundred twenty thousand dollars a year which is more than britney spears often claimed as her living expenses and if this strikes you know it's extremely unusual. It doesn't make sense to people when they hear about it right that the only situations in which the court appoints council for you as if you're unable to britney is obviously someone who's been able to and not just that somebody who from the beginning you know..

"The right. No i won't i won't come. They changed the turned upside down. Our entire our entire civilization has just been turned upside down. Yes well and It's there's not one corner of it left untouched right. Exactly i mean it. Just drawing draw issue out of the hat they have flipped it on its head. Do you remember the big discussion in the two thousands about gay marriage. Why does it matter to you how you affect your life. I don't know has it. What's changed since gay marriage was approved. Made legal. what's changed everything. That's the fattest everything in society has changed okay. I don't know that they're all connected to that. Though right i just yes yes. It's connected please. This has been the goal. The whole time it's never been about tolerance is never been About just allow me to to live my life and love his love. And don't worry about what i'm doing in the in the bedroom. I've never worried about that. I don't care it's all the other stuff that we're being beaten with now over the head. Everything i mean we've got. We have to change our language in our civilization right now because of all this well barack knows yep and here we are and math is racist. Yeah so you know. There's another thing. Now i'm on with this one because matt sucks yeah. Us educators slamming. Math workbooks that claim. It's racist to ask students to get the right answer. Oh my god wow. Educators condemn the one million dollar dismantling racism in mathematics program funded by bill gates which tells teachers not to push students find the correct answer because it promotes white supremacy. So let me get this right. Is this accurate bill. Gates this math thing That's basically crt but it's not crt enough or what. I don't quite follow this. But it seems like another case liberals eating their own does seem like that. Yes dumbing down. I mean it's keeping bill gates in his microsoft Empires that's for sure. Yeah it's part of a larger push nationwide to teach students about critical race theory. It's amazing how far how far along that is to speaking of changing everything in our society. Now we've gotta teach white kids that they're racists and there's nothing they can do about it because you're just flat out racist and even if you don't think you are you are even if you've never thought bad things about Minority you're still are. You've got incredible advantages just because of your skin color and so you need to know that when new be the not only do you need to know it need to apologize for it exactly and you need to stop having that That unfair advantage. They're making sure that. I would put forth the theory. That science is white supremacy since what most scientific methods that we have our from europeans or descendants of europeans so therefore this science that is worshipped so much by the left as they like to think i. It's it's actually white supremacy that you're worshiping so really good point. Good point go there and says we just celebrate the fourth. We might as well say it. Fireworks are racist. what we what fireworks races. The you don't know the hidden toll fourth of july fireworks. I don't know the hidden toll. But i'm going to tell you about it celebrates the death doesn't well. It's no secret. Fireworks can cause some air pollution in the united states as well as other countries like china and india but not everyone is equally at risk from the noxious particles so when those pyrotechnic light shows go off and explode. They're coming down on lower by on the by talk That's what's happening my friend on the bypass they're coming down on the by by fox or climate change effects that more as well as being bumped but of course they are being bombarded so another little change in our society fireworks no to fall down on by talk because they're usually invented by or put together by white people white people ingham. Yes yes exactly exactly keith. That's horrific plus you know the the wind machines that are out there. All the weather controlling machines. Do whitey runs those now. We've talked window when the fireworks go off. They blow him toward the pot. We've talked about how the wind is blowing toward poor neighborhoods. Where minorities are in. And that's why their own. Yep held down because of the wind. Well apparently that we wouldn't allow it. I had fireworks at my neighborhood and we wouldn't allow that unless we have giant ryan's blowing it toward well. That's that's that's a great point and it's not only a win but the heat knows where to go to congress is Has made this clear a tweet that wing to just another part of our civilization. We need to turn upside down any eliminate fireworks and math. Plus there's more we'll get to it in a second here. I i got to tell you about real estate agents. I trust These are the people that you can turn to when you're trying to sell your home. If you're trying to relocate to a new area you got to sell a home and then you have to buy a new home in different Part of the city state or country real estate agents. I trust these are the agents who know what they're doing. They really have great marketing plans. They've got track records that are exemplary. And they want to help you Get rid of.

"You know somebody who has covered this story a lot when you were listening to her. Speak like a little over a week ago. Now what what was going through your head. I felt terrible for her. I've interviewed britney spears a couple of times and she's a very nice person. Seems like a very you know. Very much trapped in the star machine and that's not to be unexpected as sad as it is but listening to her testimony. You felt like you were listening to someone who is in a parole hearing. And i don't know if you've ever covered those but i've covered those in the past and people parole hearings. They're begging for their lives. Essentially they may not say that but they are. They want to get out of prison and as anyone who knows anything about prison on either side of the border. It's not a place you want to be and you wanna get out of his faster. You can't and you will do anything to get out of there. Britney spears sounded like that. I truly believe this. Conservative ship is abusive. And they'll we can sit here all day and say oh conservatives. Ships are here to help people. But now there's a thousand conservatives ships that are abusive as well. She said she wanted the whole process to end. And i would honestly like to sue my family to be totally honest with you. I also would like to be able to share my story with the world in What they did to me instead of it being a hush hush secret to benefit all of them. I want to be able to be heard on what they get any by making me. Keep this in for so long is not good for my heart. She seemed to indicate that she didn't really understand or had only recently began to understand what our actual rights were in terms of this leadership. Which now has been going on for thirteen years. And let's be clear these type of conservatives ships do not generally go on this long. They go on for a few months. Conservative ships like this where people basically come in and take control of an adult's life it's for people who seriously lack any ability to take care of themselves right. That's not the case with britney spears his two thousand eight. She has been unable to do anything. It seems significance in her own life and that process in two thousand eight now in the light of day. Seems very sketchy about the way it was put together in the way it was implemented and how quickly it was done right right and this this is one of the many revelations that recently came out in this sort of epoch new yorker piece right like that. It took ten minutes basically for this conservative ship to be granted and there are questions around. There were a lot of revelations in that piece there was a lot of there was a lot of stitching together of things that have been out there for a while but there were. There was an excellent analysis of looking at the big picture very much so very much. Well i don't know if this has been out there for awhile or not but certainly in that piece. They looked at how much money people connected to the conservative ship have been making including her court appointed lawyer who was reportedly paid five hundred twenty k. A year in the investigation like heavily suggests that this lawyer is more aligned with her father who runs the conservative ship then with her and brittany herself brought this up on june twenty third. Her lawyer was appointed by the courts. Everyone in her life is appointed by the courts. She actually asked the judge. Judge brenda penny. She implied that she does. She said she had a good relationship with her lawyer. She made it very clear and this was discussed after her statement in the court. About what how. Things are gonna go for it. She made it very clear that she was considering getting her own lawyer. She has had no control over this. Everyone has been appointed for her. And i will say one element of this. That should come under under scrutiny itself. Is this could all end tomorrow. Judge brenda penny. Who just recently late last week rejected britney's petition to have her father jamie spears removed from the co conservative ship which she stated very clearly on june twenty third. She wanted done and has done before exactly a motion put before the court last november she also reconfirmed the wealth management company that had been brought in last year as temporary co conservative that wealth management company the next day mere hours after they were officially confirmed said. Yeah we don't want to do this. We know we don't want any part of this. Britney spears has made it very clear we do not want to part of that. She doesn't want to part of it so we don't want a part of it. We're seeing the cliche rats jumping off a sinking ship. But you're definitely seen people abandoning ship very quickly and britney sees species. Defense attorney has resigned after fifteen years on her conservative ship. Case samuel d ingham officially filed his application after her manager. Larry rudolph.

"Have i again nothing. This conservative ship is lawful from the very beginning the probate court does not have that type of authority so in my opinion all of this is britney spears to the extent that this is what is happening. She's been lied to. She's been gas lit. She's been misled. And the fact that she has a court appointed attorney that is allowing this to happen to me is even more egregious. The whole point of an attorney for the conservancy is to protect against these abuses. And if this turns out to be true. And i have no reason to doubt britney at this point so i'm going to say it sounds like it's truthful. This was abusive. This predatory This is horrifying and is not consistent with the law of the state of california. You know she said repeatedly in her statement to the court last week that she wants. The conservative ship removed even went so far as to say that she wants to sue her family for the four. What she says she's been through and she wants the conservative ship removed without having to be reevaluated. I mean she went out of her way to make that point over and over and over again. And this attorney that you talked about filed a motion just yesterday to remove britney spears father as conservative of the estate. The superior court denied the request. Do we have any sense about why. And what's your response to that. So as we were speaking. I went on the la court website. That's my job. That's what i've been doing for over two decades. I did not see a motion being filed. What i saw was the court. Finally signing in order approving bessemer trust and jamie spears as co conservators and even that is half baked petition that the court appointed attorney came up with In terms of how britney gets out of this conservative ship. I've been clear about this all of my social media and every statement. She needs to get her own attorney. Who is independent from the court and competent enough to file a rid of habeas corpus. She does not need to be evaluated. She does not need to file a petition. She has been denied due process. And those are the circumstances that the court of appeal. That court of appeals in california can immediately rectify. But she has to get away from sam. Ingham i cannot emphasize that enough but but lisa how how the conservative ships supposed to work. It sounds like you're saying that she she cannot get her own attorney outside of the court appointed one where my misunderstanding you our shack certainly can she just has to reach out and make a telephone call at what i'm concerned about is that she may have been gas slipped because the way that this conservative ship was established She actually did hire an attorney. She might even hired two or three different attorneys and each and every time sam ingham went to the superior court where he was known to be a favorite of the judges and he told the judges unlawfully. And i believe unethically that miss spears could not were lacked capacity to retain an attorney even though she had in fact retained an attorney. Names adam streisand. So all she needs to do is pick up. A fallen and any number of competent attorneys would would jump all over themselves to represent britney. Jean spears probably for free and they can terminate this conservatives ship with a risk to the court of appeals will lead some carly is appropriate and conservative ship. Attorney practicing in los angeles.

Dr. Elaine Ingham, Soil Scientist
"This week. Cultivating places women's history month interviews gets to the very basics of horticultural work with soil. The soil world is integral foundational to the plant world. Since the nineteen eighty s mainstream academic soil science has been transformed into a search for biological discovery. It is a fundamental shift from a science that seemed blinded by the theories of the Green Revolution from the nineteen twenty s through the nineteen seventies. The Term Green Revolution refers to innovations intended to increase food supply around the world specifically through introductions of new often dwarfed sometimes genetically modified varieties of cereal grain crops developed for high yield along with introductions of synthetic fertilizers herbicides and pesticides often derived from the chemical byproducts of World War Two the Green Revolution asserted increased production of and reduced pest and disease damage to crops. Managed by these men made inputs over traditional agricultural methods. Beginning in the late nineteen seventies however more voices started questioning the long term results and benefits versus serious disadvantages of these methods. Many of the voices raised in opposition. Women's voices among them was Dr Elaine. Ingham Elaine's work in microbiology. At the Colorado State University for Collins in the nineteen seventy s through the nineteen eighties began illuminating. The incredibly complex living systems at work in healthy soil. Her work is strongly associated with the concept of a soil food web and in the beginning of this century. She is the founder of Soil Food Web Inc and she's here to share more about her work. Welcome Elaine thank you very much. I'm very honored to be here. So you have had a really long interesting career in which you have accomplished and articulated some really interesting. And seminal things for our field of interest Plant life here and how it relates to so much else. Can you describe for listeners? What does your work consist of right? Now especially as it relates to soil and plant life lane right now where. I'm still continuing to work on. What is the soil food web? How is it different in different? Parts of the planet given climate season changing weather patterns. Things like that. How do these organisms interact with each other to help? Plants grow or what are the conditions that results in the disease causing or not beneficial organisms winning out over the beneficial's all those stages of succession and so many people doesn't don't understand that it's the biology that pushes succession along at. What's really altering things so that next stage of plant life will succeed into that system and then of course. Those new plants communion alter the biology in the soil which sets the stage for the next stage of succession. So lots were of information yet to go and only really begun to scratch a surface soil. The MORE QUESTIONS. We answered the more questions. Come up I think is is so often the case so before we get into the technicalities of this big interesting wide world that you are studying take us back a little bit and set the scene for us of of where you grew up and the kind of journey of your work of the people in places in plants that grew into a person. For whom this would be your. Life's Focus Elaine. I grew up in Minnesota so the frigid northlands and I thought every place in the world had twenty five feet of snow in the wintertime. That was just how everybody else lived. It was a kind of a shock when I learned it was different than that so my father was a veterinarian At the University of Minnesota and he would take me into his laboratory. He took me because I was the only one of his offspring who was interested in laboratory work and I remember at the age of six years old. My father sat me down at a microscope. Wasn't quite sure what to do with me. I couldn't be running around the halls getting into trouble. So what is he going to do plops down in front of a microscope and says county coli so he showed me how to make the microscope slides and start counting and he wanted me to do twenty five fields and he figured that it would take me a long time to get twenty five fields. If he coli counted he was right. So a my first introduction to the microscope my father and I worked on all my science projects through the course of middle school and high school and I went off to college at Saint Olaf College in Northfield Minnesota Various Scandinavian Norwegian school. One at the top Pre Med schools in the United States. But I decided I did not want to go to medical school. I had met some of the people I worked as a In the heart hospital as a lab dishwasher during my senior year and discovered. I really didn't like those people. They were too con- focused on the wrong things. I wanted to stand how the world works. Not How you get the patient to spend the most money on the most expensive drugs and you know all of that. medical It was just an anthem. It to me so I decided to go to graduate. School went to Texas am where I worked in Marine Microbiology on the digest organisms in the digestive systems of oysters and freshwater mussels on started understand that you know science purports many ways the academic world reports that it knows everything we found all the answers. And so just ask me. I can answer all your questions and began to discover that that is absolutely not a case There's so much we don't know that it's overwhelming and the methodologies that people often use to try to collect the data and then the misinterpretations that they perform in explaining the world if if you take the material inside the digestive system of an oyster in played it out on a petri dish you're only going to find two or three species because we are so changing the the habitat think about the inside of an oyster versus In a medium in a plastic petri dish that you spread a point one meal of choice tres digestive system and and how many microorganisms well? I looked through the microscope at those organisms and I noted that there were literally a hundred different species of bacteria that I could see a couldn't identify them to genus and species. But I could see there. Were one hundred different things that were totally different. Egmore Doing very different things and so I figured I should be seen that many little colonies coming up on my petri dishes and I was seen one or two. And so how can you use that method? Petri plate methods. Do not allow you to get an inkling of what the diversity is out there in the real world and yet that was the standard of microbiology. That's what you had to do to start the organisms in now. Fill in the blank. Whatever you want to write so there'd been a lot of work done on the ecology of different ecosystems that were just completely inappropriate. When it comes to understanding any of these
