Seeing someone like name represented what was possible all the things that were outside of his own realm but that he clearly saw could be possible for him in his life as a gay man. One of the biggest life lessons that Justin took from name was this idea of celebrating difference and being open to difference throughout his life. I'll look so much younger. I love for you to just take a couple of seconds to think. Think about the first time that you saw team and how old you were and where you were and just give us an idea of what that first experience was like what I think with a movie. She has all the she has different color hair. I mean it's just it's a smorgasbord of color for your and I remember seeing I I think I was. I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania and I was often at my grandmother's house. I saw it in her living room on a console television Russian. If you remember those things and I think I was kind of done in by the color at first but it was also at a time time around that time and this sounds maybe entirely to kind of precocious but it was true where I was realizing thing that there was a whole different life besides the one that I was living and my grandmother had a very nice how she's very chic. She dressed beautifully but there were no books in the house there. Wouldn't we didn't ever discuss art or anything like that and then next door kate care again again. Sure well and it's and it is something that I go back to all the time because it is his profound and I think it gets a bad rap because its campy but I think for me as a gay a person as a queer artists camp is my holy grail. The way that my people have made sense of the world for centuries you know so it is profound and and even though people can kind of tossed away as like a light comedy. What you're really dealing with is a woman that grew up under a very different set of circumstances who turned herself into anything she he wanted to be and in doing that always kept her eyes on the future and more to see an ever expanding view of what humanity was? Yeah it's funny the over Andy May I I know I understand. Just think I think it's also this thing that I've been thinking recently about like just how so much of when you know you said there's interesting point about you. Don't see a lot of movies like this. Well this is a movie about a woman inventing ourself and over and over again. But but you also don't get to see you know and in relation to another person in relation to a young boy but she is always at the front of that and I think that I think it doesn't get taken seriously because it's a quote unquote woman's picture agreed and it's a quote Unquote Camp Picture and and you know kind of performs itself and is very colorful but within that I think there are. There are very deep messages ages and I think that is systematic of ways in which women and Queer art is often dismissed. Because it's Oh it's just kind of soft often. It's feel good and it's you know there's too much glitter on it. The truth of it is that glitter matters to a lot of people. Don't you ever throw anything away. Who knows what I go back to one of these colored? If you kept your hair natural the way I do you want to buy here natural the way you do. "While the moon is in each of those signs it takes on that signs energetic qualities and because the moon has such a strong influence on us the Lunar Zodiac is really important for kind of understanding a little bit more of the subtleties in what qualities. The moon is taking on at that time. So so there's an introduction to how this all works and understanding how that relates even to your own moon sign and how the moon soon being in different phases while it's in the different constellations Zodiac. How that kind of affects the energy? So this is it's really kind kind of subtle in in terms of its energy but complex in terms of the understanding an overview of how this all works so I go through these twelve all different Zodiac signs And for each one I give the dates. When the moon is in that sign the element that it's associated did with of course again the keywords and major energies that are present the ruling planet and then I also give the crystals so for example? All right now we are in the time of the Scorpio Moon. So the Scorpio Moon will last until November twenty second while the moon is in Scorpio so during the Scorpio Moon. Transformation and change are on the horizon. This is a really really powerful time for creating new habits in your life for dissolving old patterns learns and this is especially true for anything related to finances and relationships so the ruling planet of the Scorpio Moon soon as Mars and some of the other keywords here intuition magnetism passion resourcefulness trust and truth now. The crystals that you can work with during the time of this Scorpio Moon until November twenty second are black obsidian black oval and jet and of course in the book. I do give a little ritual that you can do. During the time of this. Scorpio Moon using these crystals crystals or just one of them and of course you're welcome to substitute crystals that you feel drawn to as well but again this is just kind of based on my personal practice purpose so then we get into probably my favorite part of the book and this part takes up probably half of the pages in the book look and this is the thirteen full moons of the year. So you've probably heard terms like the ice moon or the Strawberry Moon wound or the blood moon or the hunters moon or the harvest moon. Well all of these names come from different cultures and traditions around the world so I take these thirteen moons of the year. I talk about why these are so important and how we can work with their energies and then I break them down into into the thirteen. Modern moons the thirteen native moons and the Thirteen Celtic Moods. So the modern moons I've chosen because their moons that we we still use the names of today they're still very commonplace They really come from all places across the globe but many of them were related to agrarian societies everything that was kind of done according to the seasons and cycles of the earth and and so these modern moons are names that you still see in places like the farmer's ALMANAC and in tons of people's blogs and things like that all over the place because there are still commonly used in there also commonly used still in modern day paganism or earth-based spiritual practices. Then we go into the thirteen native moons the native moons are compiled mostly from the names. That were most widely used among among many Algonquin north. American tribes. But there are a lot of Additional tit bits and pieces of information in archetypal energies that have been pulled in through the traditions of people across the Americas so North America Central America South America Erica and then finally we have the thirteen Celtic moons and these go back to the OEM. And so I believe it was Robert Graves having a hard time remembering right now by. I think it was Robert Graves who I associated the Celtics Owen. Which is the tree alphabet with with an actual annual calendar and so there's Quite a bit of debate about whether or not this should be used because there's no true proof for evidence of a historical basis of this however is still widely used we know that the OEM has historical roots. This tree alphabet has historical roots but in terms grams of the relationship to the different times of the year And the calendar months and that sort of thing that's a little bit Not really grounded in in any historical factor evidence however it is widely used in a lot of modern spiritual practices particularly modern paganism enjoyed truism so have chosen to include the section. Because I think there's so much kind of just goodness that we can tap into through this his practice and kind of making it our own modern practice so I would love to share with you a little bit about these moons and and of course the reason that there are thirteen even though there are only twelve months in the year. It's because we actually have thirteen moons in a year and that includes the blue moons. And so you'll see blue moon's listed for each of these as well so for our modern moon. Our next full moon is actually coming up on November twelfth. So if you want to do these practices at the time of the full moon. That's when this moon is really at its peak. These moon names are often just associated with the new moon of each of these months so the modern moon for November. Which again like I settle happen on? November twelfth is the snow moon and this is named for the time of year when the snow begins to fall and actually here in Wisconsin. We've actually just gotten our first snow fall at the dark moon in Scorpio right around the time someone so This is a really common name for this moon that you see across many different cultures and traditions but there is also the name the White Moon which is actually the Chinese name for this moon and it's named the White Moon again because of his association with the Snow It's also called the krone moon the morning moon and that's morning like at dawn Not Morning with you. It's also called the tree moon. And now I give some associations for different animals and colors and deities essential oils and herbs that you can work with by either incorporating cooperating them into the ritual that I've outlined Or in some other way that just you feel called to do but I really want to focus. On of course are the key he words and energies of this moon and the crystals so the key words here are detachment illumination and spirituality. So you can kind of see how this might be related to snow. Snow is so pure. And it's kind of a blank slate so this idea of detachment and kind of being free from things and also illumination. Think of how the Sun can reflect off of a blanket of snow and be so bright and then also spirituality because of this kind of pure energy that snow has it really relates due to our connection to spirit so the crystals for the snow moon are clear courts Ethiopian Opel and Saleh tonight and so I want to. Of course I go into why each of these crystals are connected with that particular moon but I kind of want to share a little bit about the ritual ritual here with you so to connect with the snow moon. You'll need a white candle. And you can set that up somewhere in a fireproof container in in your sacred space and then hold one of these crystals so a clear quartz and Ethiopian Opel or a cell night in your hands and just focus is on the intention to connect to spirit because remember. The snow moon connected spirituality so then set the stone near the candle light the candle and focus on the flame. Here we bring in that energy of aluminum then you can close your eyes and allow any sensations nations or thoughts or feelings just to kind of leave you just to flow out of your body in really clear your mind and then bring your attention to whatever whatever remains whatever that kind of last thing is after you've cleared out all the mental clutter. This is the energy that you need to focus Okasan during your time connecting with Spirit. This is the thing that's kind of the most important right now. So if we move to the native native moon here this is the beaver mooned. beaver Moon happens in November. So this is named for the time of year when traps. Were typically set to collect furs. I for winter clothing and other tribes across the Americas have known this time as the fog. Moon the frosty moon or the moon of storms arms because the weather really rapidly shifts this time of year from autumn to that very deep cold of winter it's also known as the Moon Windier shed antlers the Sassafras Moon and the trading moon so the key words here are courage ingenuity witty and persistence hall kind of related to the beaver in on arena. The beaver then there are the crystals which are petrified Wood Rainbow Rainbow Sheen obsidian and Shung so kind of deep dark earthy crystals but also crystals that as much as they keep. Keep US grounded in protected they also have the ability to connect us to the other world so to the kind of darker realm so to connect with the energy of the beaver moon in ritual. You can play some dried all spice which is one of the herbs that connects to the moon and a Rainbow Sheen obsidian stone in in a small pouch. You're making a little pouch that you can use to carry around these energies tech this into your pillow case before you go to sleep. Set the intention to experience and remember a meaningful dream that will provide you with guidance about something that needs to be healed in your life so this takes takes courage and a little bit of ingenuity. Both of which connect to this idea of the beaver moon now. Finally that takes us to you. Celtic Moon for November..
