That's hot pink and she has green polka dots. All over and it's one of our favorite pieces in. It's one of our visitors favorite pieces to because she is like your eyes daylight. yeah in its presence. So but let's talk about ya. So yeah you. Kasama was born on march twenty second nineteen twenty nine in matsumoto nagano and she was born into a family of merchants who owned a plant nursery and seed farm and kasama began drawing pictures of pumpkins and elementary school and created artwork. She saw from hallucinations. Oh eight yep. I was like hallucinations. Who which would which would later define her career. I should mention like from the top first of all. There's a really great documentary about her on hulu. I believe talks about her story. They interview her because she's she's still alive and talks about her work. Yahya kasama once you kind of get her biography. You know exactly what her artwork means. She is very transparent about what this stuff means everything. Traces back to her childhood traces back to her mental health traces back to her like hit her internal world it's very straightforward so her our works both accessible and also easily red oak which is rare for a contemporary artist. So even now she'll do giant pumpkin. These big sculptures polka dots.

Order in the Court (Transfinite Ordinal Numbers)

"This episode is about the trans finite ordinal numbers. What do you think about that Neither no the only word in there. As i know i know lots of like parts of that number but i know ordinal put him in order. trans finite means what across infinite of across finance across the fight number basically an infinite number and the there's actually a difference between ordinal numbers and cardinal numbers. When you get into the infinity's which we're going to talk about Cardinal numbers on the next episode odds apart one basically but ordinal numbers are. Let's say let's say you have like a collection of things. Let's say you have an infinite collection of things. Let's say you have a million like infinite number of names on a list and you have all numbered from a one One onward and their unique right. Yeah and they're all unique or at least they have a unique address if you add. Let's say you add one to that. Like one new name to that while you while you could reorder them and say that they are Well is that one that you're adding. It's one more than the one before. Yeah it is distinct and and you could order them basically the same way because that could be the that could be the number one the the old number one number two number two three and so forth. But if you want to compare if this item is distinct you can refer to it as kind of like the infinity. O plus one address is when you have a collection that's already infinite and you're adding one to it so that makes no sense to me to makes no sense to me because infiniti to me means without end right and so it seems to me like it would be immaterial to add another number in there because it's already there anyway like in other words it's just basically that is when you're talking about cardinal numbers and i'll explain the difference real quick. Cardinal numbers are how many there are ordinal are where they are also. We're not talking about when you were talking about names. were literally not talking about ordering. The numbers were literally talking about unique things. Yeah like let's say like Your jimmy bob. And he's number one and ninety have mohammed number two got pluto three. Got you okay. I was thinking this was like one two three four five. Yeah i mean at one. Two three four and five are ordinal numbers and they're also cardinal numbers because you can have a set like a collection of things with five things in it but once you have an infinite number of things like for example. Let me use the example before we have the incident names and then we add one to it right right. The address of the new thing can be considered like the infinity of plus when address. But it's the total number of things in it is still a just the same in just the same infinity. Because cardinal numbers is about the size of sides and ordinal numbers are about addressing sets. Giving each place everything a unique name so for example before we have everything numbered one through infinity and then we add another item to it and then if we compare that list the oldest to the newest we could talk about this in terms of ordinal numbers.

The Most Reliable Used Cars

"So i've had an obsession forever about why buying a used vehicle is so much better for your wallet than buying new. There are a lot of people who love new vehicle smell. They want that new vehicle and if it works for you financially. That's fine but for most people buying used is gonna be a much better choice but there are people like a vehicle that feels new. And that's why to me. The compromise has been historically a three model year old vehicle. So right now it'd would be twenty eighteen because the twenty one or what out on dealer lots now so when you buy a vehicle. That's three years old. As a general back of the envelope rule it will have lost roughly a third of its value some models substantially more than that others a little less but generally about a third of the value has been wiped out in those first three years even though the life of the vehicle is so today with vehicles running quarter million miles Not at all unusual. That's like normal now where it used to be hundred thousand miles pretty much. The expected reliable life span of a vehicle but vehicles vary a lot and quality and consumer reports has put out a recommended list of bike category. Just What is Going on at the Esports Stadium Arlington?

"Sports stadium in Arlington is the largest Esports arena in North America this week. They laid off almost all their employees including former president. Jonathan Ogden Josh. Whose been at the Helm of the company for the past few years made it clear. There was plenty of discontent behind the scenes. He tweeted quote would love to talk about what's happened a t Sports stadium and my fears what will happen with the new Direction off all the details but need to tread lightly from a legal perspective and quote in other tweets. He makes it even more clear that the exit wasn't pretty and that the new leadership represents a drastic change from the team driving the stage over the last few years. The new president will be luke Bauer Bauer doesn't have much experience in E Sports at all. Jacob Wolfe tweeted yesterday quote Bauer is a 2020 University of North Palm. Just graduate and Linkedin shows experience running a pressure washing company power is a friend of Luke lights means and quote. Luke is the other figure involved with the company and he's a bit controversial Thousand Years. Apparently the grandson of Ray Davis a majority shareholder of the Texas Rangers who helped launch the venue according to Woolf the current CEO of Esports Arena Arlington is Neil Lyman a minority shareholder for the Rangers. And if that name doesn't ring a bell, here's a refresher Infiniti sports and entertainment. That's the company that bought optic gaming back in 2017 and made an absolute mess of it before selling it off to a mortal's about two years later. Now, it seems like Neil is taking another popular is Esports institution run by a gaming veteran and moving it in a direction of wage earner nepotism Bauer didn't interview with Kevin hit at the Esports Observer, which I will link below in it hit questions Bauer about an odd tweet from Luke leitzman lights been again appears to be Bridge between Bauer and the Texas Rangers owners who are making the decisions here lights been tweeted and then deleted e Sports Stadium Arlington will not at any time require requests or inquire about the vaccination record of anyone. I will be buried in the ground before this changes. That's just an odd statement to make from a public health perspective, especially as venues have been one of the hardest-hit industries by the covid-19. Demek Bauer claims lights been does not have the authority to make that call but his entire page was wild with feared claims. And now as I searched for it today does not exist. So weitzman's actual role at the company is not clear whatsoever. Jonathan quotes who did the article and said there is much much more to this and is in no way being transcribed fully booked. It's not a fault of hit. Of course. It's a fault of Bauer who just is not going to provide the full situation. We likely won't know the full story until Jonathan's NDA expires, but for now given meals poor history. Use words to say the least. We certainly aren't going to give him the benefit of the doubt here.

"And inflow I and I and almost everybody listen to this podcast will beefing With I and why that would be the case. So as a community if you don't normalize your data for this dilution, you might get the false sense that the community spread is decreasing and and you don't want that. Okay, and and so it that was like the light bulb moment for me. I thought this is a problem. I and I is gooey potentially make people think that they've got less of a virus problem in their community and you might remember the two years ago on this very podcast. We talked about something that we call Infiniti off and I which would that and that's flow Works machine learning-based tool that calculates. I and automatically in a near-real-time and you know, when we develop that of course, this is way pre covid-19 and we weren't thinking about Wastewater based epidemiology, but it became pretty obvious to me that hey, you know, here's here's something that we can bring to the table wage. That can really help with the with pandemic and understanding Community spread and ultimately save some lives. Well aside know I love that about technology and Innovation is that something was created for one purpose and then finds another application later just it's so cool how that happens. It's it's Serendipity it and it's a wonderful thing. Yeah. So that's an effective approach then for Wastewater epidemiology and for tracking, you know, presence of coronavirus then what would need to happen to make that really effective and off normal. Yeah. So right now sort of talk about the current state as I see it is there's still a lot of pilot projects going on and people are using the information I think a little bit on the wages, but you know, the whole idea is this has to be scaled up. And so what you're seeing right now is at best sampling two to three times a week your table. About pretty expensive, you know, testing protocols..

I. S. at I think that's the number there but nine is the number for my program to wait for this hour is money and again spell the word out and you have to spell it correctly don't do anything clever with dollars they just spell out money M. O. N. E. Y. M. O. N. E. Y. text that to two hundred two hundred anytime between now and five PM you get a text informing entry plus I had a radio installed standard data and message rates apply in this nationwide contest the covert nineteen story which is another major story that we need to be discussing on today's program along with the election of the other developments the latest numbers from the CDC three hundred and seventy four thousand total cases it again total cases merely people have tested positive anybody who didn't go in for a cast is encoded so everyone believes the number is higher than that but of those who were tested because they're showing symptoms and so one three hundred and seventy four thousand and a little over twelve thousand deaths don't nobody knows how far it's going to go and nobody knows what the numbers are going to end up however as I commented it appears as though there's a chance I just said chads that we're plateauing gear it seems to me this it seems to me that this is a virus that you have depending on where you live about a one in five hundred chance of getting at least to the point of noticing it we are symptomatic have set of symptoms and if you're one of those unlucky one in five hundred you got a one in one hundred chance of dying that appears to be after that add up where the numbers get what this state is they're a very tiny minority will get it at a very tiny minority of that tidy but or he will die if this was a cancer it would be considered the most B. nine at nine serious cancer that exists again that's just true this is not to understate the impact for the people who have it or the physical discomfort to they're going to or those who do die or the people that are freaked out about getting it it's merely to state a fact that if we put this in the context of many many many other serious diseases that are out there if you told me that there's something daughter route that I've got about a one in five hundred chance of getting at if I do get a one in one hundred chance of dying I would say not knowing anything else about it who gives that rep now again we do know more about this if we do know that the nature of it is different in that it is spread more quickly that this window for which it is out there you take a look at other things that are out of their car over a lengthy period of time is that he's a non contagious diseases for example just go what a number you know you don't catch a heart attack from someone else you don't catch lung cancer from someone else it's what you could say cigarette smoking but when you have to have those kinds of diseases that we compare this to say there is a different thing and there is the contagious component of what which calls for different types of reaction if something isn't contagious there's no need for the rest of the world to take precautions when there is contagion that that that it's a different take I grant all of that I'm just saying that when you take a look at this in the larger context of what we have done to the economy and how freaked out people are this is something that if you get it ninety not out of a hundred chance you're probably going to live Hey you're very unlikely to get it at least get to the point of noticing that you have it now that mortality rate that I cite the number so far is not one in one hundred it would be about three and one hundred baht again every one of the experts seems to believe that way more people have this that reported cases that's why I say it one in one hundred who get it die the vast majority don't even take are not the majority many don't test positive for it because they didn't go away to get the test as it stands right now about one in thirty or about three percent of the reported cases there's thirty to thirty a little over thirty times were reported cases then there are doubts which would be a three percent factor not a one percent but again I think that that number of reported cases is different than the number of actual people who have had the virus support again and that overall context it gives you a perspective different than the wide that is come from people who I think average ebit agenda of fear mongering here I'm merely trying to be accurate and not as they give an honest perspective on all sides of this the second question jobs is this steak indeed cresting which is possible is as I say separate from the question of that is sick this is go this one is not particularly lethal at all and it is something that I'm a percentage basis which doesn't do you any good if it's you know your your dad was so hot I grant that this is something that is creating a deep fear in comparison to the relative unlikelihood that any one person in particular is going to die from it I throw it out only to ponder and think about how we've reacted and the long term damage we've done to people's lives into our academy and so wide in response to this situation noise regular something else or the weather hi severe thunderstorm warning is now that he is the spirit that is our water that we had a deal for fifty has been extended until four thirty for central Ozark accounting and that's as I say this big Whopper of a storm has been moving he's very very rapidly but it's not yet all the way over the lake it's right now located just over graft and it's been one closer closer to the lake it's so wide and it's been moved west the you know it started obviously way west and then it rolled through Washington County Ozaukee county it is headed out over Lake Michigan but it's not all the way over there yet and it's a very very strong storms so for the central portion of Ozaukee county body eleven more minutes of this for A. Forster lastly quip around thirty five grant which jeep today yeah okay so so you wouldn't necessarily go with a huge car with thirty eight thousand miles if you're willing to spend thirty five to forty especially with the server there are there are super nice you'll be shocked at how nice that interior is in any given for less than thirty five I'm just talking about of really nicely equipped with the man I just don't think you do any better my friend okay what about taking delivery for instance in Montana because we're still in California but we're in a thirty day escrow I would try to do it in California and I've got some good Subaru dealers there and the reason for it is it's a more competitive market and when you when you try to buy a Subaru in an area that gets a lot of whether the prices skyrocket I mean if if you look at the difference between southern California and Montana or Denver or Cleveland or somewhere in the northeast Boston they get a lot of ice and snow the prices are sky high because they can't get enough cars in an LA and then also the California they're fairly plentiful and you will you'll save yourself a lot of money then when you get to Montana just re register it with them they'll send you lots of plates the charger for registration but but you won't have to pay the sales tax again again but we have to pay it in California yeah you can go for okay thank you very very much good luck to you my friend the that we we are and what are we only in Montana we world Montana somewhere let me look real quick because we were I was surprised when we we went on in Montana just one expecting it and there we were let's see here real quick when we just verify Livingston Montana yeah well in there okay PRK thirteen forty eight AM you'll find us there and then we've got podcast at our website Carper USA dot com the U. literally just got to push a single button and it'll start playing it's real real simple good luck to you my friend I hope you enjoyed Montana know you're excited about the new adventure I know I would be I would I have always wanted to live in a place where there's a lot of snow always always have you considered in your imagination having a full time snow removal guy living with you well I have never gonna drive drive the snow blower yourself I need to I don't know I don't think that don't doubt that far in advance yeah well he got it maybe someday I'll join bill in Montana I DO that I gotta think here we go ahead yes and speaking of thinking ahead in this week's newsletter that came out this the came out Friday and you can still get Friday's edition today by signing up we'll get to you later today and then every Friday I had my guide to all changes synthetic oils and oil content I took three topics that I get a lot of questions on and put them all together so if you're curious about synthetic oils is better for you for your car about regular oil and one of the things I point out there is for goodness sakes look in your owner's manual and find out what weight oil you're supposed to be using and don't very that the old conventional wisdom your Daddy probably told you this the third all the better no longer true these engines are really tight we're getting a lot of horsepower thick oil will not flow through these engines today so if you use an attacker all the what you're supposed to it's going to cause you problems you're gonna get you're gonna get.

"All right. What do you drive in what are you doing? Oh man. All kinds of great stuff right now in the I'm in an INFINITI q, sixty red sport four hundred and I like this car a lot. And we've been talking to INFINITI and Nissan did some stuff with them recently. And I just feel like this car, kind of goes under the radar think people think of luxury, coupes, and they think a lot of maybe S five Audi and. And BMW four series and you don't really give a lot of attention to the Infinity. And this car is nice cars dialed in. Well, it's one of the cars that has the electric steering dialed in well, and it has four hundred horsepower, twin turbo and drive got a great combo of a of a midnight blue. The tone of metallic and it. Yeah. Bright red interior. And it's funny because I saw another photo of like the gray one and the gray one just looked so plain, and like it's a sexy car, good-looking car. And when you do get it in like this nice metallic blue with red interior, and which is a great option that they have. It's, it's fantastic. Like zero to sixty four point four seconds. This one has all wheel drive now. The wheel drive makes it about four thousand pounds but it seems to scoop pretty good. And it's, it's comfortable. It's a great luxury coupe. Yeah. Now, maybe I'm just by because I'm sort of Japanese car guy. But I feel like. You know, when you pay for Audi when you pay for Mercedes when you pay for BMW, you get a really nice automobile, but there's a small bid of that money that's going to the name plate. Yeah. And so when you buy a Genesis Hyundai Genesis, the money's not going to name nameplate, the money's being deducted a little from the name play. And when you're talking about an outy, or even a Lexus, sometimes BMW, some percentage of the money's going to the nameplate. So if you buy. A fifty thousand dollar Infinity or fifty thousand dollar Mercedes or BMW. The Infinity is going to be a fifty seven thousand dollar car and the Mercedes is going to be a forty seven dollar car, like one's gonna go down just a little not. And I don't mean in terms of like Bonder ice Steeler. Sometimes all the bells and the whistles, and the little bits and the pieces. Yeah..

"That boasts an INFINITI flex display it allows the phone tablet size screen, and then you can fold it in half and fit it in your pocket. It can run three apps at once. But it cost two thousand dollars for more on this. We spoke to rob verger. He's an assistant tech editor at popular science. And we just started off by talking about all the latest from Samsung, we got a whole bunch of new gadgets from Samsung on Wednesday, and they revealed their new S ten galaxy S ten phones and there's actually four of those. So we got a whole slew of new S ten devices and three of the four of them have this ultra sonic fingerprint sensor. That's built right into the display, and it you sound ways to look at your fingerprint and get a kind of three dimensional image of it and uses that to basically validate, your identity your way to unlock the phone, and it's a really clever way of using biometrics. Oh, all smartphone makers have to figure out. How do we let somebody unlocked the phone? You know, maybe apple users face ID. For example. Obviously fingerprint sensors aren't new on fallen, but an ultrasonic sensor built into the display is I think pretty cool. No trick. I I'm an iphone ten right now. And it does have the facial recognition thing. It works. Pretty good. But I always do miss that fingerprint sensor is just easy to open it real quick as you're holding and picking up your phone. It's already on its way to being open Samson always makes beautiful phones. Beautiful displays they're great phones. But briefly tell us how the ultra sonic fingerprint sensor works. It uses sound waves to detect the three dimensional image of your fingerprint. Right. Well, you've probably heard of like an ultrasound in medicine as using waves to get an image of something. So they're doing something similar, obviously. It's going to vary in some technical ways. But it using sound waves that you can't hear all sonic, San waves are gouging off of your fingerprint and returned to the sensor. So it's kind of doing it. It's getting an active reading of what your fingerprint is. And that's different from like. Capacity fingerprint sensor, which is like what was built into the home buttons of older, apple iphones. So choosing these sound ways to bounce off of your fingerprint. And from that it's looking at the ridges and the valleys and consents the depth of the valleys as well. So that let's get a three-dimensional or textured look at your fingerprint to validate it that way. How much are these funds going to cost us? They're all around nine hundred thousand dollars, which is pretty par for the course for flagship smartphone these days. All right. Let's talk about the next one that they unveiled also the galaxy fold phone which a lot of people are saying you're going to start seeing more of these foldable type displays this one does come at a price at one thousand nine hundred eighty dollars. So basically two thousand dollars and it's going to be available starting April twenty six. So that's pretty soon. Tell us a little bit about that one. Yeah. It seems pretty science fiction and yet it's kind of exciting. But you're right. It is almost two thousand dollars was funny because my guess is that most consumers who buy Samsung products will go out and buy something like the kind of your normal kind of smartphone. But the galaxy full got all this. Attention. And that's because it can fold open like a book. And when it does it reveals this screen, that's like a tablet sized screen. It's about seven point three inches across when you close it like a book on the front of it is a smaller screen that's four point six inches across. So there really aiming this has a luxury device that some people will use as a phone and then later on you're at home, you're on your couch, and you unfold it and use it as a tablet to consume net flicks. Or or whatever. Yeah. This thing is so interesting, and I understand the purpose of it. I don't know if the consumer at large is ready for something. Like this the display you're talking about in the front. It's not as nice as some of the other smartphones out there, even the s the iphones. It almost seems like you're gonna be looking at it for notifications. Like, you would like on an apple watch or something? And then you open the display in. Yes. Then it does look much more impressive. Tell us about that screen there. Because since it's a foldable display. I've read somewhere that it doesn't completely lay flat. When you open it. They say that it's able to fold of at least two hundred thousand. Times which works out to over five years of you full one hundred times a day. The interesting thing will be you know, a couple of things one will be to see how did this phone hold up over time. You know, how to the gears work? How does that phone? You know, the screen that they say is made out of a new kind of polymer has dad hold up over time with all this kind of this new use case, right? So how does it hold up physically? And I think the other question is what you like to use. It can run up to three apps at a time. Yeah. So you can multitask. You know, you can have a YouTube video open you can have what's up on and, you know, a third app and some people may love that. And they're like, this is so fun being productive and other people might think God, this is like overwhelming, I don't know which screened footwear, and whether I should just close it and use the small screen. So some people may find a freedom in using it. They're like, wow, this is the future. And I think other people may think this just a little bit much for me, verger assistant tech editor popular science. Thank you very much for joining us. My pleasure. Thanks so much for having me..
