Just a moment and then we'll get into I'm so jealous to this guy in Maryland and I know there's some information coming out about schools in Rhondda Sanders and all of that stuff, but a short assured that it's going to be in this week in Florida, I could think of no more disturbing video than of me taking a shower except for the fact that I have an echo dot in my bathroom that I just use for shower jams. Yeah, and that's one of the songs that I'll just like volume that song right there the wrong. GRAYSON's. Are you ready to do this? Do it. Let's do this week in Florida. Recap of the most grown were these stories in the sweet. That's correct. The weekend is here. That means it's time to take a trip around the sunshine state and see some of the craziness that has gone on in the past seven days or more and I. Say more because this is one of my favorite this week in Florida's to do really because what is the this is the first time we've done it since. What happened Oh six vacation. Why did we say? That's probably a really ripe time for Florida News. It can be, and there is a Palm Bay man that just couldn't wait. He couldn't wait for the fourth of July so much so that he blew his hand off on July third. Forty two year old man suffered severe injury to his right hand from an exploding fireworks just before nine thirty pm on July third in Palm Bay provide county. I would like to know that metric as well and onto the next day, which is the fourth of July actual Independence Day of the day that they should be shooting off fireworks. there. You get a sticker, Smiley, face, sticker and school I'm missing the point of this. What was the announcement? I thought we already had agreed that kids were going back to school i. that's what they're saying. Although there's a big pushback from parents. Obviously, there's some that are pushing back some that are probably like sending these little bastards off, and then the ones in the middle like you know. We heard from dispatchers where they're like I. Don't know what to do because I want my child to have an education to have interaction and it's impossible to know when there's. A looming threat. It's tough spot over everybody but Governor Ron Santa's in his push to reopen classrooms. This fall, said Thursday. If retailers are allowed to operate, schools should be to. Claiming the risk of children getting sick is extremely extremely loyal. To said in a fast food, eateries and hardware stores could operate as essential businesses during the coronavirus pandemic and schools should reopen as well. We'll see how that works out tuned in towards the end of it and he was giving advice on how to. Get back control or keep control numbers of good, and you see the stuff in day and he's like. Just follow the three C.'s. and. Something about close encounters close. Being close contact with somebody one of the first points is that if you going to be having a party? And I think I'm kind of add living here, but party was mentioned that has to be outside. You know because if you find yourself in a close in space with poor ventilation, it's likely that the risk is very high there, so it's a novel idea, but now the school be outside. Cool eventually eventually got to go back to school eventually and parents that are concerned I would say don't send your kid back to school if you're worried about it, but if you're a parent that is worried about the other side of the coin, your kid, not being socialized, and this kind of really wreaking havoc on your kids live, then do send them back I mean. This is really to meet coming down to two choices, people's choices and their own life and their own health, and their own decisions moving forward in this, but some at some point, the schools have to open. "High city and throughout Colorado it is news for you Kampusch Dan kapple show here on independence eve but it's not ten campus it's a guy named George Brock clerk filling in for the rest of today as we head into that great independence day tomorrow Dan is off celebrating his twenty fifth in a row I think it's in a row wedding anniversary with Amy spore caplets hopefully one day gets back in the saddle he'll tell us some of the things we can talk about what that great twenty five year celebration in our last hour I thought it was pretty cool especially for being on the eve of the day where we say goodbye to all the people that kept us from representing ourselves and we declared self determination to be our our future path we had in studio amber McReynolds former director of elections for Denver and then has graduated if you can use that term to executive director something called vote near your home vote just outside your home or vote at home it's one of those I can't remember which but I could keep going I didn't think I was gonna be able to keep going with that conversation for but I'm telling you I'm fascinated by the idea that what we've done here is to continue to expand opportunities at voting and gotten ourselves in a position where we're one of the top two if not the top state for voter turnout and I think you know they're gonna be people out there that debate is that a good thing I think it probably is when you talk about representative democracy I know that there are people say Hey I want my loading day I do want to wait in line I want to go in there and pull the little levers and closed little curtain behind me and I don't think that it's you can't do that I mean you can show up to your polling place and drop off your your mail in ballot but we have certainly taken great strides to try to increase the number of potential voters out there and encourage them to continue the voting process not perfect but on the road to perfection like so much of government should be but it's not and in the book that amber had just measure love to have her back on at some point to talk about about women's suffrage in some of the other voting stuff in this hour though there are a couple stories that we touched upon yesterday that have picked up some legs in a different direction one of them as you recall we had on Michael fields the executive director of I think it was Colorado rising at home no I Colorado rising action I'm getting the two confused and in G. came on yesterday to talk about the fact that we have this great taxpayer bill of rights it's constantly under assault from those parts of the government I eat the legislature or is it E. G. the legislature that want to continue to grow the budget of the state of Colorado by taking more and more of our taxpayer dollars does they've generated something called proposition CC which is a misleadingly worded proposition it'll appear on the ballot that says Hey pretty please voters and taxpayers can we keep your otherwise mandated tax refunds for eternity can we just keep them and continue to grow the governmental pie that thing isn't pulling well it turns out it's not gaining traction and so one of the things that Michael feels talked about yesterday was this concept of a special session of the legislature which will cost you and I twenty five thousand dollars a day while they try to figure out a face saving way to pull that version of CC off the table and get an agreement to something else to put to the voters and instead of it being keep your tax refund forever and ever it might be keep your tax refund for five years or for ten years and maybe they even sweeten the pot by telling you specifically we will bind ourselves to spending the money on this particular project in this particular way I don't think that should happen I don't think it's going to happen and what we know is that today the leadership on the Republican side of the legislature sent a letter to the governor that said Hey we do not support a special session you've got the legislature mostly all dis except one Republican put this referred measure on the ballot let's try it out let's see would Colorado voters say and frankly a defeat for proposition CC I don't think it puts the assault on Tabor too bad but I do think if it gets beaten badly enough it delays that conversation for another couple cycles because people just can't stomach the idea of continuing to go to the taxpayers with these losing measures and if you'll recall every other measure that we've seen on the ballot the last however many years it has sought to raise taxes by could Julian's of dollars for whatever pet projects are out there have been defeated like being like baby harp seals defeated not even close and mice my suspicion is that's what's going to happen is they put this measure on the ballot in November of twenty nineteen I imagine it's going to be the same thing that's a little bit update their Colorado Republicans in the legislature have said the governor no we don't want this special session just continue to move forward as is now there was another issue and you may have heard this seen it on TV you talked about around the water cooler is this issue of these Nike shoes these other wise patriotic Nike shoes and they had on the back of them the flag from the original thirteen colonies called the Dolly Madison flag and frankly I'm sorry you know that's two days in a row of said that it's not actually Dolly Madison it's it's Betsy Ross I'm gonna get a tattoo that not only has the flag but says Betsy Ross so the next time we do this topic I can just look down and see Betsy Ross now frankly this would have been another good topic to have amber in on just because she is such a proponent of non not only women in general but the leadership I think shown at different points throughout history and I think that's part of her book as well but Betsy Ross flag and if you recall Colin Kaepernick who was elected to be the nothing he was never been elected to be anything but he's become the spokesperson for kind of this I don't know I don't know how to describe it this into the system how we would typically view athletes up to this point he has come out and said to Nike Hey that symbol is problematic for a lot of people because there are certain fringe groups out there groups who may even be white supremacist although I haven't seen him I don't know them have tried to co opt that flag and because of that the shoes are problematic for us and were offended by them and we'd like you to not sell them and Nike of course did exactly what Colin Kaepernick suggested they pulled them all off the shelves had them sent back stop producing them stop mailing them out you can't find them online unless you go to like eBay and spend a trillion dollars on them and their statement yesterday was Hey we decided to pull it back because it was an an old version of the flag that's it that's the point the address and that's true it is an old version of the flag all given that factually accurate but the silliness the E. N. and may be so in this doesn't give it its appropriate do the the really troubling part of this is where we are going as a culture as we look back in the rear view mirror and not just try to address every blemish that's back there but try to rub it out and it changed our history and the way that we view it because of this perception that we have of who we were in the past but only the bad stuff so what I want to do and Ryan you're the wizard with this can you play a clip of a guy named Michael Eric Dyson it's number five as he talks about this issue the argument that someone made this is PC culture run amok if you well thank you want to put the flag on there sure why are people so upset about it yeah because it you know words matter symbols matter too why don't we wear a swastika for July fourth because I don't know it makes it makes a difference the cross burning on somebody's lawn when we just have a nineteen you know celebration of the court well because those those symbols are symbols of hate so we can take PC culture back is amazing to me the people who will cry the loudest about PC are the ones who didn't show up on this the friends first occurred who do who didn't defend the people who were victims of white supremacy or racism or sexism and misogyny but now pop up and say Hey let's not be too PC if you wait for the battle if you have been celebrated the process you cannot claim the product so at this point I think people need to be honest about it and say it's not a matter of PC there are many people within our communities of color who understand complexity complication you can't have it the way you want it but something so glaring and so apparent that has to be dealt with that's Michael Eric Dyson comparing the colonial flag the Betsy Ross flag not to be confused with all imagine the Betsy Ross flag with you heard it a burning cross and a swastika and I think he actually asked the question in relation to that why don't we wear a swastika during independence day or maybe he called the fourth of July pretty outrageous stuff what where are we going as a people if we are allowed to take these past historic meaningful symbols and all of a sudden just **** nilly associate them with some of the worst things in world history and just get away with it nobody called him out on a what I'd like to do is to have a conversation with you about this because this has some other facets to organise talk about eight five five four zero five eight two five five eight five five four zero five eight two five five is the Dalai Ross flag as Michael Eric Dyson has said like wearing the swastika or is it like a burning cross in a yard or is something else going on here now you may have missed this part I did not there the judge advocate general legal center in school which is kinda like a one of the mother ships for the jag corps and I'm a colonel in the jag corps I'm a military judge and and currently the staff for the state judge advocate I spent a lot of time on Charlottesville learning and training prosecutors and defense attorneys and other jag officers for many many years going back over twenty years so I spend a lot of time in Charlotte chills on the campus of you be a right next to the hair some law school I spent a lot of time there and that is a town whose identity is really indistinguishable from the history that is Thomas Jefferson Monticello in Albemarle county down there is one of its largest and most popular attractions like trillions of people come there every year to see it he is the father of the university of Virginia FAQ on his tombstone he doesn't put any about being president I'd states he puts down there the fact that he has is the precursor to the bill of rights the Virginia version of if human rights the governor of Virginia and the guy who is the father of the university of Virginia and here's what they had just done the city council the town council for Charlotte's bill has just voted to no longer honor his birthday as a holiday this is not just a man who by the way died tomorrow eighteen twenty six July fourth eighteen twenty six the fiftieth anniversary of the declaration of independence which he wrote which he wrote and also died in the same day as is John Adams as many of you know not only all of that but because of this association with him being a slave owner and there is no doubt he was a slave owner and I've never heard anyone say that's what makes him great that's what made America great these are clearly things that even at the time were questionable to many if not most but it is the reality of that part of his character that he has that flaw as did many but he was also this author of the declaration of independence he was also this father of the university of Virginia ours third president of the United States the Louisiana Purchase which by the way pretty sure if there's no Thomas Jefferson with the with Louisiana Purchase we're not sitting here where we are right now and yet his town his the the place that was his home the place that is he's known for fact if you look at your nickel and you see Jefferson on one side on the obverse you will see Monticello in Charlottesville Virginia they no longer are gonna recognize his birthday as a special day as a holiday I think it begs the question here what's next what is next for the United States of America are we at a place and at a point where we're going to start to see a move to tear down the statues of George Washington of Thomas Jefferson my god the Jefferson memorial right there in Washington DC if you haven't been to it it's magnificent did they start taking down that statue the start re purposing that monument what do we do with the Washington Monument because it's an obelisk we say well look we just scratch the name can't have George Washington or we'll just call it the Washington DC monument in Washington DC George I get rid of what my gosh does that you see that's a great point Ryan to even get a call at Washington DC anymore or do we just call it DC the district is this where we're going I'd love to hear from you one if you think that's the road we're going down there that's just alarmist nonsense and two is that the right thing to do the right direction to go and we're having this conversation on the doorstep of independence day of celebrating that anniversary of that.

"Does the gentlemen from New York? Seek recognition better speak, right. Move to suspend the rules and pass H whereas forty one. Title of the resolution house resolution forty one resolution rejecting white nationalism and white supremacy. To the rule the gentlemen from New York, mister Nadler and the gentleman from Georgia. Mr Collins each will control, twenty minutes. Chair recognizes the gentleman from New York. Thank you speaker. I ask unanimous consent that all members have five legislative days revise and extend their remarks and include extraneous materials on the measure under consideration without objection. Thank you speak. Right. Yield myself such time as I may consume. Was recognized speaker this resolution stands for one very simple, preposition, white nationalism and white supremacy are hateful expressions of intolerance that have no place in the United States of America. Unfortunately, what should be an obvious statement. In two thousand nine nineteen has been challenged in recent days and not for the first time by one of our own colleagues as those elected to represent all of America. Members of congress should be the first to condemn white nationalism and white supremacy which are the source of so much violence so much hatred and so much divisiveness throughout nation's history. These hateful ideologies are diametrically opposed to what America is supposed to be present New York Times reported last week, Mr. king of Iowa was quoted as saying, quote, white nationalist white supremacist western civilization. How did that language become offensive, unquote? Well, I will tell him. Anyone else who may be confused? This language has always been offensive. We fought a civil war established that but this language and the philosophy. It represents persisted. It motivated the Ku Klux Klan to terrorize African Americans. It's sparked Jim crow laws that oppressed African Americans through institutionalized. Racism, inspired the night, the murder of nine black congregants in Charleston, South Carolina church and the murder of eleven Jewish worshippers, Pittsburgh, synagogue, and inspired racists, anti-semites and other assorted bigots at the unite the right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia that's spread hatred. Fear and ultimately violence in celebration of white supremacy. These ideologies dangerous not just because they too often lead to violence, these notches views can also infect the policies that governor nation sewing, more division, and leading to more injustice in our society. When we establish Muslim bans when we try to build walls to keep out those who do not look like us, and when we reverse a half century of progress on voting rights and civil rights, we have putting these hateful views into action. I wanna thank the distinguished majority whip the gentleman from South Carolina, Mr. Clyburn for bringing this resolution forward, he knows from his experience both as a leader the civil rights movement, and as a member of congress is own constituents recently targeted in a vicious attack motivated by white supremacy that when we see bigotry and hatred expressed in any form, you must condemn it loudly and forcefully. We can't pretend that these sentiments do not exist in our country in this congress or in the White House. We can try to sweep them under the rug and to convince ourselves that we have moved past is shameful history on race. But we ignore white supremacy at our peril if we do not speak out now collectively as a congress clearly and without reservation. We will send the message that these views are acceptable, and they will continue to fester in communities across the country, generating more hatred more repression more violence in their wake. I qualify all of my colleagues, Republican and democrat alike to reject the hateful ideology of white nationalism and white supremacy the policies that flow from such hatred, and anyone who would espouse those views vote. Yes. On this important resolution. I reserve the balance of Eitan congressman Jerrold Nadler chair of the judiciary committee. Some New York reserves the gentlemen from Georgia's recognized. The resolution resolved that the house representatives. Once again, we're talking about here rejects white nationalism. What's premesis hateful expressions of intolerance? That are contradictory to the values that define the people of the United States. And with that. I agree Republican Doug Collins, this is she spent radio programming from Tuesday WC SPA from Washington is ranking member of the judiciary committee. I'd like to use my time to consider with my colleagues. How firmly America had stood and continues to stand against white supremacy. It is a basic human fault that our is open to truth to slowly and a close wiccan wickedness too quickly today, we had the opportunity to renew our gaze at the truth about our fellow men and women and that each of them is created with untold dignity and worth as a result. We recognize that white supremacy and white nationalism pedals lies about our brothers and sisters dignity. We reject these lies, and we stand on the shoulders of Americans who have gone before us in rejecting lots of Premacy and racism as Martin Luther King junior observe when the. Architects of our Republic wrote. Those magnificent words of the constitution and the declaration of independence. They were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir, this note was a promise to all men. Yes. Black man as well. As white man would be guaranteed, the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Dr king's words, a historical fact, rooted and universal truth, America's founders gave us an incredible inheritance in the declaration of independence, which as that. All men are created equal. This declaration helped the founders and all Americans who have lived after them identified that the many ways that we dishonor that equality recognized and rectify and set my more just path forward, president Thomas Jefferson himself, a slave owner publicly supported the abolition abolition of the slave trade and pouring congress to withdraw the citizens of the United States from all further participation in those violations of human rights, which have been so long continuing only on offending inhabitants of Africa George wash. She said that this is not a there's automate living who wishes more sincerely than I do to see a plan adopted for the abolition of slavery. John Adams wrote that every measure of prudence therefore ought to be for their eventual total expiration of slavery in the United States. And I have through my whole life held the practice of slavery, and a porous Benjamin Franklin believe slavery is an atrocious debasement of human nature Alexander Hamilton cited racial prejudice, and something that makes us fancy many things that are founded neither in reason nor experience and James Madison wrote that we have seen the mirror distinction of color may the most enlightened in the most enlightened period of time a ground for the most oppressive dominion ever exercised by man over man. The words of our founders indict anyone who would believe that white supremacy Iraq's actions born out of that worldview is in any way defensible. It is all Americans good to revisit our path out of darkness that feeds racial injustice. So that we never find ourselves slipping back, but rather moving forward knowing that we are all created equal and all were created in God's image at the beginning of the American revolution. Slavery existed in all thirteen original states and trade with Africa was carried on unconstrained official access to abolish slavery began in seventeen seventy four, but independence eve was even declared before it, and this moral movement gained substantial ground over the next thirty five years delegates to the first continental congress in seventeen seventy four plants to stop the slaves into America and by seventeen ninety eight every state had outlawed slave importation during the founding era is eight states proceeded to abolish lately, either gradually or immediately or these steps. Yes, were they enough certainly not congress passed the northwest ordinance in seventeen eighty seven forbidding slavery in the territory where the future states of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin be. Establish this laws proved decisive in ending slavery in America and the eighteen fifties. Abraham LINCOLN side of the northwest ordinance frequently to show that the founders opposed the expansion of slavery in the eighteen sixties these states along with a number of their fellow sites on the coalition that elected Lincoln, president won the civil war and abolished slavery nationwide. The press will that all men are created equal and have fundamental right to liberty gave the emancipation movement is foundation, and is James Madison wrote in the federalist papers defending the ratification of the constitution. The constitution that was grounded on the fundamental principles of the revolution. Namely, the transcendent laws of nature and of nature's God. And the rights of humanity announcing the declaration of independence are first Republican president Lincoln's understood this well when Lincoln was a young man, he said, the founders established political institutions can do something more essentially to the ends of civil civil and religious liberty than any of which the history of former times, tell us and the Gettysburg address president Lincoln explain that America was conceived in liberty dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal as Lincoln argued to his opponent. Stephen Douglas, this equality applies to all human beings regardless of race. When president Lincoln spoke of America's earlier days. He said I'll remind Mr. Douglas in this audience while mister Jefferson was the onerous lays is undoubtedly. He was speaking on this very subject. He used the strong language that he trembled for his nation. When he remember that God was just Mr Speaker. From my faith background. I will tell you God is just and I do tremble when I consider his Justice. I tremble when any person in any way for tens that white supremacy has an affinity with the Christian faith or his heritage. And frankly, am very offended when that is brought up the bible is clear on the equality of all people why people are entitled to know special privilege on this earth, and they have we'll have no unique standing in heaven. In fact, my bible tells me we will all give account for what we do heaven is a place where every person there is United and bowing before God who made us the God who made us equal knowing this. We understand that we should use this live to honor our brothers and sisters without exception. As James tells us, if you really fulfill the Royal law, according to scripture, you shall love your neighbor as yourself you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing San congressman Doug Collins. Partiality is unacceptable in God's economy and racial prejudice finds no shelter among American values. Favoritism rooted in racism is evil in all its forms, including lots of Premacy and white nationalism today. Matt speaker is a day like many others today. Like every day the world is watching America to see if we still believe inequality if we still elevate human dignity at every turn if we were reject hypocrisy. Whenever it tries to take root among us today. Our fellow citizens are watching to see their leaders live out the American press alongside them today. I stand here with colleagues reaffirm these values reject white supremacy as both dangerous and foolish. It's tenants are as ridiculous as Americans numeracy is remarkable today. Matt a speaker our messages as it ever was that every person is created equal in value. And at the hill of equality is one that Americans will not we'll stand tall to defend and yes, even die to defend. We're all. Madam speaker created in God's wonderful image. He made us he breathed life into us. We're the very essence of his beloved creation. There is not a person you will find today. Madam speaker? No one I challenge you from the depths of any prison to the sidewalks of any major city anywhere in this country. Why black any color imaginable any race any place that they come from male or female? There is not one person. You will find today when you look into their eyes. They are not deeply beloved by their God created them. How can we choose any different any ideology they comes in face to face confrontation with God's creation is an abomination. And that's exactly what this ideology. Is. That matter speaker I reserve. The gentleman from Georgia reserve, the gentleman from New York better speaker, I now yield four minutes to distinguish majority whip Mr. Clyburn. From South Carolina, recognize thank you, a speaking. Thank the gentleman for the time. And I want to say to my colleague, Mr Collins that was associated myself with the sentiment that you expressed here today. However. Also today to speak of how the tale of two kings has brought us to this moment in history. If he had been allowed to live. The day with a bit in the ninetieth birthday of Martin Luther King junior. Today. This August body stands ready to vote to disapprove of Representative Steve king's recent comments and condemn the evil concepts of white nationalism and white supremacy white supremacy and white nationalism or evils. They are in cities and a clear and present dangers to our rate. Republic reported hate crimes rose seventeen percent last year, which was a third consecutive year that we've seen an increase in this this this is appalling and unacceptable. When elected representatives give cover and comfort to those who spread racial divisions. We embolden those on the fringes of our society, and we have seen some of the results. The massacre. Of nine for richness in historic chaucer's AME church. Emmanuel AME church at the hands of a young man who believe he would be in his words rescued by white nationalist after they took over the government in the murder of eleven Jewish worshippers at the tree of life synagogue in Pittsburgh. By a gunman who believed the Jews were in his words, waging a propaganda war against western civilization. The term used by Mr. chain is comments to the New York Times. We saw in Charlottesville Virginia. At the white nationalist United the right where they chanted Nazi freeze, and I quote, blood and soil. Some have questioned the timing of this resolution. What why now? Asked my guidance. Madam speaker? Comes from Dr king who wrote in his letter from Birmingham jail. Time itself is neutral, it can be used either destructively or constructively more and more feel continue Dr king that the people of ill will have used time. Much more effectively then have the people of goodwill, and then he closes slow. These words we must use time creatively in the knowledge that the time is always right to do. Right. Now is the time to do it. Right. We have reached a tipping point racial divisiveness is a fault line that is gripping our nation apart. This body must speak out against this evil. The time has come do condemn those of ill-will and say that no part in our great nation. Can be had by them may have one more minute. Congressman James Clyburn. The gentleman.
