And i think that's because it's kind of painted for us like right in school that your purpose is what you do and just kind of along the lines just growing and all of that. I've learned it's not what you do. It's like who you are and who you want to be so instead of asking. Like what do i want to do. That is such a hard question. And i don't know i think there's few people who can find career that's like this job is my purpose right but like who you are in. That job feels more of a like year living in your purpose. You're being who you're meant to be mother that serving teaching so podcasting or you might not feel like okay. A highlight from Episode 25 Top Three Sibling Songs
"With sisters. My sister laura loves disco. She was that was her jam. Funk soul disco earth wind and fire is probably the one record or the one group that really reminds me of her. I mean she's into the teenyboppers stuff to andy gabe and the osbournes and stuff like that. But when earth wind and fire were super-popular in the disco era chewed often come home from school work and she'd put on some earth wind fire songs and just dance just dance. It was like a stress reliever for her. But stephen i would just kind of sit there and watch her dancing. She seemed so happy to be lost in this music. And when i started seventh grade we had school dances as you know. You probably had them to john and it didn't know how to dance very well so she showed me how to do. Some basic moves with like earth wind and fire songs and then progressive other moves. That were little. More advanced beginner disco. But it worked and i never had problems asking girls to dance. Because i wasn't embarrassed by my lack of rhythm on the dance floor. I wish older sister damn should've gotten the begged her for it. Man i needed so much help in that period of my life. The record that i really love by the band is their nineteen seventy seven album all in all and like many earth wind and fire records. It has this egyptian theme. It's almost sifi which i love. I love sci-fi stuff but it has solid and varied songs from start to finish. Of course there are some huge hits on this record. Serpentine fire and fantasy and jupiter was at the top of the charts. Peaked out at number three on the billboard. Hot one hundred triple platinum so telling folks to listen to nine hundred seventy seven earth when fire all in all. It's not much of a risk. You're not risking much. Listen to this record. So all in all from earth wind and fire from nine hundred seventy seven. That's my that's my sibling. pick thanks to laura. Thank you laura. What a great choice and a

"Bill bennett longtime Public servant author great radio host for many many years here on the salem radio network. Now he's got a terrific podcast former education secretary. He knows his stuff. He was On with jesse waters over the weekend on fox news channel and saying listen. Teachers are going to have to to buck up. And they got to go back to the classroom as i think they've gotten used to get used to the sedentary life for the vacation life. They're getting paid fulltime salaries and they will continue to get paid every hint every suggestion of a virus. Maybe even just a common cold and they're going to say maybe we ought to shut it down so randi. Weingarten has given a warning that this could be their disposition. Parents are furious. They are right to be furious. Several things to be furious about the schools fact that they're not opening as one of your bill bennett. One of the smartest guys i know. And he's saying teachers essentially have gotten used to the vacation life. They're getting paid not to work. And that of course is a is a an attribute you can apply to a whole lot of walks of life. People who are getting paid not to go to work more than they'd make if they went to their job. And that's why a lot of red states are ending the supplemental three hundred dollar a week. Unemployment check you gotta get a job. Jobs are at their jobs are plentiful according to the data the statistics.
Melissa Victor, Host of Stoopkid Stories, on Exploring Race, Equity and Injustice With Children
"Coming off the heels of all of the uprising in america. That happened during the middle of twenty. You know kids were so much more aware one because they weren't focused on being in school all day and All they had was their tablets. Tv's they could just see all of the terrible injustices happening in america. And of course. I wanted to be part of a project where kids who were getting this negative Picture from the media can also switch to podcast where them they are celebrated. They are affirmed and they have an opportunity to learn about themselves in other people who may not look like them In contrast what we will see in in the media in. I thought it was so important that we started at the route. You know for a young black girl or young chinese boy or young latino girl to sit and listen to these stories like all this is me this is why am i like fried chicken analog kimchi or we lay off edges and then we put rice water out here like we do all of these things in. That's amazing into watch that grow to stories about. How do we enter. Maverick identities having interact with other identities. And then get into the icke part. Okay now interacted with these other identities. What happens when someone who doesn't look like me Interacts with me in a harsh way. How would it my feelings around that. Glorious Goodwood: A Review
"Gonna talk about some of the big talking points from the last seven days firstly old touch upon something that you alluded to in your monday column late and that was the atmosphere at goodwood. Amort what you think. It means for racing funds going forward. Just shed some light on how you found edward over the past week. And what you sort of uncovered why exposed into a family is slightly slightly difficult for me. Because a the price we spend most of our time at any rate scores in the press room. I'm particularly good. Yo yo an elevated pressroom above Abetting all really see a huge part from when you gain today the winners and clashes got quote. You really get the the whole rice gore experience but experience for some rice goes particularly on friday was definitely Very disagreeable a fight broke out before the the final race on friday. I spoke to my acre bo. Brown of western racing. Who had a vantage point of everything that went on pretty much. Assume is it full guy started laying into two other guys and two guys joined the four guys who is six onto a scrap in. Shoot that In front of the grand stands that then concluded the the the two guys who'd been bashed around my she got up a burst themselves down them. One of the six guys were stood by bose betting pitch to which another guy approached him and said that was brave of you. Six two and the guy who said i got punched very hard. Indeed landed on the tarmac with his head making com contact with the tarmac There was a lot of blood bo- and other people who are on the scene said it took a long time will too long in their opinion for security to get them from medics please to get there in the end. The guy for some reason didn't want to press charges after he got up and recovered as possessing tara his decision but The culprit was arrested. Anna case will go on from there. It's not the first time an incident happened at good. This certainly wasn't the worst three years ago. Nine people ended up getting prison sentences after a mass brawl at the race. Course we've seen similar disturbances at newbury in the not too distant past a tool and i think i i just reference in in my column on monday and some collins connect with people some. This one is at an awful lot of feedback with many other people expressing their concern the atmosphere on race cool particularly on days with with big crowds the summa flat festivals People greatly concerned about alcohol. Consumption greatly concerned about drug. Taking on the racecourse in the racecourse toilets even though the sniffer dogs big rice. He's not including at goodwood on sats minute carries on at people talking about the mother is schools is where they have found the atmosphere unacceptable. And of course the danger is not only as a lot of the behavior. That's going on Illegal and very concerning but it will alienate the audience within horse race and that goes racing to watch
Former ‘Ex-Gay’ Leaders Denounce ‘Conversion Therapy’ in a New Documentary
"Christine Stella Kiss went to film school, she knew exactly what her first feature documentary would be about conversion therapy. The practice of church groups that claimed sexual orientation or gender identity could be changed through prayer for Stella Kiss. The topic was always personal. My uncle who was very, very dear to me. Went through conversion therapy when he came out as trans as a child, and he never fully accepted himself. He was celibate his entire life, and he also suffered from tremendous mental health challenges from depression, anxiety to addiction to obsessive compulsive disorder to suicidal ideations. And these are things I've learned are very common for people who go through this movement in some way.
GOP Recall Candidate Larry Elder Aims to Help Voters ‘Connect the Dots’
"Welcome back. This is ed morrissey of hot air dot com filling in for hugh today and welcoming our great friend larry elder to the show. Give us a check in on the california recall effort and his gubernatorial run. Larry great to talk to you today to thank you for having me appreciate it. So what is going on in the campaign here. I mean you've really shaken things up here you've you i think reenergize the whole recall effort by jumping into this. And i'm i'm thrilled for your for the energy that you're bringing into this. How how are you seeing things out there in the campaign trail well so far so good the polls show that. I'm head of my republican rivals. But that really isn't the issue the issue is the first part of the battle is very simple. Do you want this man. Gavin newsom recalled it fifty percent plus one voted So the second question is whom do you want to replace him now unless fifty percent plus one says they want to re recall gavin newsom. It doesn't matter however republicans do and that's why i'm urging all of my republican rivals to keep your eye on the prize and the prize. If you have a nuisance surprised is the two point. Two million californians that signed the petition to get this guy out at least a quarter than it or independence and democrats. Who voted for him. Two years earlier the are angry about the corona virus mandates then only angry about the mandates are angry about the accuracy. You know he said up there that french laundry restaurant with the very people that drafted the mandates violating the mandates not wearing masks and that socially meanwhile his own two kids were enjoying in-person private education or at least slammed down education for everybody else in the state now the educational system already pretty bad especially for urban students seventy five percent of black boys believe it or not in california cannot read at state levels of proficiency and those levels. Ain't very high. Nearly half of third graders cannot read it they levels of proficiency and they lost a whole year of school learning three hundred thousand public school teachers. It is estimated by everybody. I talk to that. At least five percent of them are incompetent. That fifteen thousand teachers who are not be teaching now that we're the lapd there's roughly ten thousand officers lapd had. Let's assume five percent of them were bad. That's five hundred officers that are planting evidence or engaging in excessive force racially profiling. We wouldn't put up with it. We're putting up with fifteen thousand. They had teachers. Many of whom ended up In the inner city they're not in the west side not in the valley there in the inner city. That's why two thirds of black parents. According to a recent report i read do not want to send their kids back to the los angeles school district in the fall. They argue that the teachers end up in the schools that need them. The most and this is the teacher's union They are the largest funder of my opponent. Gavin newsom they adamantly opposed choice in school because they know that the teachers will not automatically be union members and they won't automatically get those dues. So i am an adamant. Adamant adamant proponent of choice in public school and my opponent is opposed to it.

"I would vote for that guy again. Because i'm i'm on board. Is a student taking entrance exam. Entrance exams happened. I this was an interesting piece of math. Because of corona and clusters and people not supposed to be in rooms together. They had five hundred and thirty thousand applicants in six hundred and eighty one locations. So let's do some quick math six eighty one that means there were as an average of seven hundred people in each location. It's actually the low estimate that's a problem. Because if corona virus is a thing which it is and people can catch it from other people which they do having seven hundred people in a single location at a lot of people but they have to do these entrance exams. Because that's just the japanese way it's called. The common test for university admissions actually had just learned that. That's pretty neat. There was one kid who was repeatedly told to cover his nose with his mask so he was wearing his mask problem wearing it over his mouth but not over his nose and then again and again they tell them again and he's he's refusing to do it. She's just being like a little dick. We have that story about. The guy refused to wear a mask and he like got booted off an airplane and then went to a hotel. Restaurant got booted out. You didn't get booted out of the hotel. But i'm pretty sure they're not gonna let them come back. This kid is on the same track. It might be his son He got booted out of his exams. So the entrance exams are an annual thing. You have to do it every year. If you wanna get in. People fail regularly. Think you sit for the university you want which means you miss it. You've actually missed out a bunch opportunities that data go to other universities. And maybe you could have gotten so. It's a pretty big thing you want to apply for the best university you can get into but you don't wanna overshoot and miss your chance because then you have to wait a year or you have to like study again to try to get into the same university again next year. You do that you you do get to take it again But this kid based lost his chance for this year so he's not able to go to university this year. He's going to have to come back again next year because he wouldn't pull his mask up over his nose. All i can say is worth it. This is one of those things where people who they want to make a stand on these things. It is their right to make a stand but there are consequences. And i hope the consequences..

"So news idea Da Vinci sharing the price of making a movie like all the ones we're describing like speech and debate right okay. Well let's loop back around and look at all the ideas that we've ever so far so we have marks idea which is the dead seals. Definitely the best one you pitch. Your idea was who rules? The school which was a school in middle. America is found in two thousand nine hundred that she committed a massive clerical error in nineteen eighty-nine and people are recalled back to take their exams. Yeah we have Georgia's idea of school swap which is in a school designed for overachievers a group of misfits who don't fit in get a curse cast on the wall in detention by passing mystic to live in a teacher's bodies there's one step more nuanced idea mistake was involved and then we have names idea which is which is a documentary showing a production company trying to make one of these movies appealing to kids in as many different ways as possible. Such as speech and debate so guys. What do we think fits into the cynical high school movie mold? The Best I'm going to be able to pitch in and also keep in mind that if an idea is good and you think he's could could actually succeed or that does add stats even more fuel to the fire I think. What do we think we've got? We've got a WHO rules the school. We'VE GOT SCHOOL SWAP. And we've got quota think mother goes for who the school. There's going to be like remarks. I I feel like there's a lot going on there and it could be. It could go any way. I don't like the idea that it doesn't matter what age you are. What job you have. How much money you earn. That was around like that I did. Yeah he's be bucket school but as an adult would be great lie in a way because over over tables small tables. How are you going exams? Your Idea Georgia has much more commercial appeal. I can see that being a box office smash in a way that the names yours is more worthy more needed but you know it was going to watch it. Yeah along the wrong people will watch it. It will miss its target. Georgia's does give more work to Angela. Lansbury true she's on the TV the best. She needs the work because in her ninety third year she became addicted to crack. That's not cheap at if she needs a Lotta Whitney Houston just got an email from lance lawyer word with mark. What's today she just says? Don't Oh she says don't talk interests. It must be must be that. We'll maybe we can have her in news. 'cause I think I agree with him. I think that there's a lot of room for some exciting casting and yours see a whole range of great actors and including Angela. If Oh yeah walking. She's fantastic. Okay well then that means that. Who Rules. The school is the idea. I will be working up and trying to make a real thing why they went up guys. It was in session there. I think CA- great idea one to watch it. When it's on this episode of because he watched featured Mark Davison Nimmo Deidra Georgia McGuire and me rory banks. It was produced by Joe Grace and Matz intricate..

"So that is school swat next up. We got names. I de name right okay. So I've kind of gone full a documentary movie. Docu movie. Assigning isn't it. I was thinking mockumentary. But it's a four is a mockumentary when it's sort of a joke of a document. Yeah he's a fake documentary. Yeah Yeah So. This is a real documentary. But it's in a movie sorta form and I shall explain hunker so this docu movie is about follows a production company trying to make a high school movie so the whole casting process of trying to find the right cast for the film and everything so this is a working title. Well I think this is. The title is called quota so Terry Long Time I think it needs much explaining exactly and I think the tagline should be quote a gone man with leads if as so people realize. It's not just mad. It's not exactly so This lot production company are being so like PC and so by the book with their quota. That even like with the blind castings gone like so crazy so like a Martin Luther King for example in the film happens to be like the two they give it to the Chinese girl and then and even though you've got really great male black actors the perfect for the role like when she. I think you should have it locked Yeah because she's fed up so I have got friend named that by the way. It's not just a random made up name. So yes so the whole idea is that they have to close things but the kind of just getting it wrong because they they want to make sure they get a trends on both both sides both sides of Trans They WanNa make sure they get like every single ethnicity but the getting like you know the the boy who works in the Indian Curry House with his parents and is an authentic Indian restaurants been cast as the blackmail still in it. It's all messed up. And so the whole idea is just. We're actually just watching production companies. Get this wrong. Is there a way of ramping up the satire in this because I think if it's too Po Face one of a better term. It might miss its target. I think there might be a bigger punch. If it's not played for laughs but satirized in the way you can you can give them an actual quota which they have to fulfil. Yeah literally every that's true. Yeah and also I think the whole idea of like safe. It was a black male role and giving it to a Chinese go a full. That was like even more of a p state because you see happen all the time when people are amazing for the job but then they just don't get it because of certain things because and then he also discredit people who have got the job because they are good at it because then it makes you think like Oh my just brings must be Hodgson. The direction and Sculpture Hanson. Plays everybody thank away so so this is a an actual so it is an actual documentary about a production company making high school movie yet. That's right so what. What are the scenes like? What's the story progression? We watched like we see that process but like where does it end up where we start in the process we could do well base it on all the other ninety s foams of high schools like basically like she's all that like ugly girl gets a makeover and then she looks exactly the same. She was pretty before which takes glasses often puts the hair down and all of a sudden. We can be kind rewind situation where we have. We see parts of the finished movie at the end. All we go to the premier and we see everyone's reactions and we see the movie like that all at the disaster artists does that uh-huh. Yeah this is like the millennial version of the cynical high school although like Witty High School movie because now I guess students that give them much more power than like four of his being the up whereas we were forced into crowbar into. Do you think kids nowadays by this movie night to you. Do I think do you think they buy it? Yeah I don't like the rough edge this kind of stuff that we were more attractive to. I'm I'm now damning. The entire youth of the planet should probably stop talking. I think I feel like because they've got so much stuff to watch like. They've got like all the calls like series and stuff like that they might need. Yeah not in the needy nutty. Yeah over saying that young people are just very needy very nerdy so stones World Morte died. Incident was one black and white says alcohol..

"Maybe he's upset because his whole family and died as well and he's just designed to clocks are dead. Go to the back edge. Kids like realize suddenly get becoming an adult or the baggage that comes with it just to get a bit more substance. United like just to everyone realizes why he's such a break because his family burn. Yeah Mr Clock was the same God. Everyone how does it civis swap the swap happens? Is this visit detention. Yeah very early on in the film see now. Often films in this genre have really implausible. Kind of starting points Like something happens that is truly insane by works in the context of the film and I think this passing mystic already bring that. What did you look like in this like? She lack of proper light. I'm imagining like you know with snow. White and then the old lady with the Apple. She's got a big hood and gown. Is that what you mean by mystic under the man's reason ninety four years old? She's already she's she's GonNa be around much longer. Yeah we just scan done infinite Lansbury. Yeah I wouldn't. I wonder if we could do her. Like on a mobility scooter or something just to add a little bit of pace yeah good reading zippers executive. Think when you first see her that she's any threat tool. Yeah so that's why Mr Breaks like oh I should go five miles an and you look well. Yeah threat. Lotto's she's just passing issue. Rasping them the glass surface tension through the school. Well she's going to be the best so I think it's a good question asked me. I don't be like I'm mystic. Do Do we need to explain? That all is what security like at the school doesn't sound like it's very good people just scraping the game. Kim Bing Bong Michigan a mobility scooter. Look again maybe. She's a guest lecturer gifted of these kids Islamic mysticism. Anything or does it exist in this world or is this kind of like apples. It's kind of like magic doesn't exist. Whoa I miss the brick. Yeah Yeah I think she's a real nominee.

"Are. We didn't take ballet and now he's like this is. I've always wanted to be an I can do it again. Take Ballet Thrill. Well there is that time of life fifteen sixteen. When you're first starting to really experiment with WHO I am and who you could be is when you choose your disease. Yeah there's a couple more season there than there are in the actual. Ccs's yeah pick your future then so yeah. It's a good moment so in in a way it might be a good thing that they get to undo their mistakes again. That's true but also there's like what if there's some old high school sweetheart situations so we love in there as well but then to get the cynical back every now and then maybe there's like like the old the old love affairs which like home wrecker once they saw come in and ruin everything again because it sounds like it could be nice ending but does it need to be a good ending to they pass. I think if they didn't have to be held back about this guy should never leave. We visited twentieth generally frozen Christmas. We the exam. How would How would these people cope with school? Systems changed like. I assume now that I've been in school for a while but I assume there's a lot more kind of like I. It's being used and stuff like that like is I like Christopher walken circulation. Going to be so bad and that he's still doing right. Quill an ink shaft in the corner of his desk and you know one of the things that scares me about talking to nieces and nephews. I don't understand what they're doing at school any more on like the old when I was at school thinking. Oh you're out you don't understand anything now. I'm that person steak speaks to both people. "That's what already exists in that category. Obviously there's room for improvement. So let's start improving marcus. You're the most passionate what do you. What is your entry into the genre okay? Well I'll hit you with a couple of ideas stage go. I was so full of bitterness and resentment having wasted an hour and a half watching steaming pile of rubbish as a cynical exercise I came up with three geeky students who a quirky and ditsy and all kinds of fun environment who object to the fact that their teachers won't let them take. The Dead Sea scrolls were found in the nineteen forties written in Aramaic. One let them take that and translate it into Sanskrit so they smash the system and spend two years translating into Sanskrit. Could that Dead Sea lulls but that was just a knee jerk reaction to how much shit so how much how much extra how much of a chance. There is a majority of them sitting at a desk and tediously translating that scrolls and I'd still rather watch that speech coming up with all. How do you translate this dramatic into Sanskrit referring to some ancient Judean desert? Long got legs for some reason. Scrap one came up with Varsity with VR and capitals on. Its GEEKY KIDS. It has to be Geeky. Ditsy don't play on. A rules is rules. They introduce a var review system to improve the justice within the school system but one of the GEEKS is caught on their own review. Cameras having an affair with the teacher so it's too dark place. Became sort of Lord of the flies meets nine hundred. Eighty four wow with the meeting itself esscalation. Yeah Yeah So. I've been that happening. This is the one I liked genuinely pitch so the working title. I have a really good downside high but it's terrible title it needs it. Needs a better one so basically a single school in the middle of America is found in two thousand and nineteen to have committed a massive clerical error in one thousand nine hundred and nine and everyone from that class that was sitting the equivalent of Jesus. He's has to be recalled. We own yeah fridge recalled. There's probably some criminal activity some fraud by means of their qualifications that led to their lives. And they're all in their late forties but they have to go and see a year at school and a wanted them to be Z. Because they have no power tool. There's a sixth form above them. The top dogs. He's really cool. So Jesus a American audience members is the kind of exam period of school way around fifteen sixteen and then sixth form would be an extra two years and so two two more years of kids senior. Yeah and the sixth one's generally want around schools in Britain thinking like they own the place. 'cause THEY SAY. I want these adults with responsible power for jobs and families to be reduced to that. They've got no status at all. So it's all in the casting and I think the pupils need to be kind of quite serious straight actors to carry the comedy of the that. If the part is another country then I think too late fortysomethings. The president is also another country. Strew so heretic. So how old are these adults? They're about forty six forty seven so the sample pupils people Daniel Craig Idris Elba also Christopher Walken in there even though he's older but in one thousand nine hundred nine he was the kid that had to keep repeating the year. Oh sorry is he didn't take until he was in his twenties anyway but one year. He actually passes. Yeah but then the teachers are all way younger. People Ellen page. I think she may be veering on too old to be teacher. Christopher Mintz Plas I just love the Super Bowl models. I love the thought of him. Trying to discipline leaders Elba. Give THEM A CAPPELLA. And there's nothing you can do. The headmaster is Michael Sierra and the janitor. Who's a weird man child? That SORTA understands all the world's but is so weird that no one really appreciates him that galvanizes. Yeah I really like it too. I think it's got legs. I don't know what the story is. I mean. Initially I thought maybe these kids as well as these adults rather as well as having to reset their exams they have to kind of put right all the things. They did wrong back when they were signed mel type thing. Maybe now are they sharing. Is it an entire class crammed with the people who need to retake or are they mixed in with the current kids? I think they should be mixed in. Yeah somehow even though that probably wouldn't this wouldn't happen but if by some quick they would be in there in class with me special that it's basically like everyone dreads going to like a high school reunion and then that's only a couple of the couple of hours for one night. Every twenty days of Weber. But this is a class of everyone that he sat next to the bully. But I think that's quite cooled. Let the the bullies at school. Always turn out to be the trumpy ones that are all like like oh just crop in their future life and stuff and then your sat there right. You're so it out and stuff but I wonder if like some of that means some of the the people in some of the people that kids could be in six full time and also Teacher pupil relationships could develop. Which would they be out of bounds or not? Oh companies a complicated issue on. Some of the pupil is too old rather than the teacher. You Call Garage with your teacher. He could be a grandson. Yeah but then also the sixty four th the sixth formers could be in love with the new some of the new peoples as well but then it could be like Your Best Mate's dad or something. Yeah also the how would the sixth formers assert their dominance in the school? When you know just good old-fashioned give me your lunch money bitch Idris Elba Carey CEO of some massively successful and he gets his head like flush down the toilet by his own son. Unlike your ten year ten and eleven you've literally disarmed because in a new hierarchy now. It doesn't matter if you're a doctor or lawyer wherever good job you outside of that because in behind those school gates. Yeah who rules. The school is a better titles schools. The school so going back to the dynamics of when they were school so assuming they will come back in there backing class and they slightly readopt their old ways. Who Do you think's the school bully out of the cast of cast of new pupils? That you've mentioned like Salva. Christopher if he's born he was held back is probably over because for walking just like given Salvador right hard time. Yeah maybe Chris. Walking too sophisticated needs to be someone. Rougher edged right. There's potentially something nice if the bully. Carrots did nothing with his life because he screwed his school years up. Baby maybe maybe that's the comedic way to go. I was GONNA say maybe he's the wise one has no money. No no hope in real life. But he's the one that learnt the most Is the Congress and like the Geek. The CASKEY IS C- Some major circle to bust through still collects like transformer toys and she hasn't grown up. Yeah Yeah and they learn they learn something but not in the way they expect it. Yeah and it always falling into trap of this is my generation or would would the utes watch it all utes and not so much as well. I think it's a good mix of. Let's laugh at the odds and let's laugh at the young's well that's what I was aiming for. Yes I think. There's a combination taking away the like normal parameters of society and the the older you get the more polly actually on a level playing field. Yes mclovin like Yellow Elba. Having to what is your. What have we had like a problem as well? Are there for a whole year. I repeat yeah. All everyone's asking I have ruined Askin Indra Salvatore and no one asked anew Craig like. Jj I WANNA SEE. Your cell rejoined the rugby team. I'd like literally in amongst normal kid. Yes just plow in see like the characters who we think of as being the big powerful hunks actually being you know. They've had to transform themselves into that as adults before he was actually into Bali Valet teams.

I think you'll I think you'll I mean give me a pissed off and all black actor and writer Mark Davison. Oh He's living okay so this week. You were given the category of cynical high school movies which is a real category on Net flicks for two titles in this category for research you guys had to watch speech and debate which is a two thousand seventeen. American film directed by Dan Harris. And it's an adoption of a Broadway. Stage play also speech and debate. What did you guys think Well I thought I liked the cast like it looked like there was a lot of. Nice familiar faces in the story wise. Maybe the familiar faces familiar faces. Wouldn't know who they are You know the names Liam James Ruffalo. Roughly she was original Ruffalo. He's quite famous gene gene gruffly. Fat Knocks Mum was known as much in speech and debate lawyer. Duo who not that would be a better film. Yes for the speech and debate. It is about a well. According to that flex it is fed up with the hypocrisy of adults around them. Three creative high school misfits revive an old debate club as a way to fight back seems accurate also incredibly incredibly similar to the plot synopsis on Wikipedia. And I suspect Netflix have been copying homework a little bit not words. Yeah exactly original original rising rising so I'm noticing muted response. I found it. Come to shoot an awful well for way of expressing my extreme dislike for this absolute steaming pilot. Because you're absolutely worst. Seen the end where they do the triumphant singing supposed to be on my God. You guys. You've done it. You've pulled through and it was so bad it was just grindingly. Oh my God if I'd had a brick next to man I don't watch TV in a in a building site. But I would have thrown it through the television. Hated it that much? But according to that Flex Quirky. Sorry it's Quirky did see everyone so ditzy no play by the rules. Yeah says it's Quirky and cynical verney cynicism in it that you've got picked up. I mean I think it's just when it comes to like I. It's the whole thing of like kids being like Dr New adults telling us what to do and is sort of like kid. You'd get told what to do so. Yeah but yeah really get the whole idea of like starting in debate and I mean that's how I mean how is that. We're going to show these adults that know nothing about the freedoms. We crave by joining the speech and debate club. Because nobody all my goes to speech and debate this awful. Yeah often. Speaking and debating in the movie night failed failed failed. But not for reasons that you'd want them to fail and a long list of want them to fail because they realized this is shit and I wanna live my life containers and free and fun but they fail because they've just failed to read the rules. I mean they failed but being idiots so easy you're taking the I'm wondering whether maybe we're too old for this film. Wasn't target demographic being late sixties but the thing I found cynical about it and again. It's not what they meant by. This is quickly. Cynical is how to dimensional one dimensional. The adults law. Because these these kids they came across to me and again I'm not talking graphics on probably missing the point. But they came crosses self-centered needy woke to the point of being unbearable and everything they wanted everything. Campaigning for was just now. No it doesn't work like that. Mitch shouldn't you'll be pleased to know that you're not completely on your own tomatoes. It's fifty fifty. It's five percent. Is I know FRY. She's got a SPLAT. It's not a good sign either way and it's got the spilt over popcorn also not a great sign. Some of the reviews on autism quite funny they mostly revolve around how inaccurate his actual speech and debate clubs very angry speech and debate people out. That is a one star review. Here that says what is this. This is not all speeches. Like this is a Poi- for money. This is overly dramatic even for. Dri what's a DIY and please? What about expos O P P ti extent? Hi at all the evidence. No speech is not some musical where we dance around naked. It's a lot more prestigious than that. There is no enroll..

"Protect kids from some of life's small but painful moments. Terry you have a story to tell about recently. Yeah last last last night we were Talking about how we got onto the subject but I was talking about remembering things from high school I think I had been to the dentist. And they had been playing music from the seventy s and I was saying. Yeah you know. Why do you always remember the songs from high school? And you'd ever remember anything you studied and then I said you know I think my daughter said you guys remember. Thanks from high school and I said Yeah I remember every stupid embarrassing thing. I did just like it was yesterday. And she said to me something like yeah. I've started remembering stupid and embarrassing things. I didn't listen to. I didn't realize that the time they were stupid and embarrassing but now I feel really bad about it. I'm like I felt like throwing myself on the hand. Grenade that Knowledge College Protector from it. What a horrible horrible thing swinging you know we always can think about? We want to protect our kids from illnesses. We I want to protect our kids from accidents from heartbreak. But you never think about just those little agonies of life that you want to protect them from and boy Oy reinterpreting things you did in high school with great confidence as the embarrassments they really were is something that Oh would I feel my children from. It is a constant companion to me and I do not like it to me. Oh Yeah so oh. That was a sad little realization and I wondered if you guys also had come upon some small little things you wish you could have protected your kids from not the the big ones that people write books about our articles but just the little awareness of life. I mean I feel like there's so many times as you become an adult coming up. I mean for example. This this doesn't really match what you're saying. Look for my daughter like when you have a car you have to put gas in it. uh-huh that's that stinks or like when they get their their first paycheck and they need all of the snow. Yeah I've been taking out of it. Yeah Yeah can't protect them from those things but did you would like to soften the blow somehow harass and. Sometimes I think do you do you warn them or does that like make take them notice it more or make them fear Mola to you now like even with what your situation was like. If you happen to you mentioned that you would know that she was already thinking that's true. You know who you have like if you brought it up earlier than she would have. Oh Oh I could be worrying about that right. You don't want to suggest it you don't want to suggest it but at the same time is there a way to protect from it with air. Is there but right. Maybe maybe growing up with the war well adjusted. Mother would protect them from it. The I think we've talked about passing our own particular pathologies onto our children. But I don't think my husband looks back on his high school and thinks that the Barrasso stupid things he did. I think he is just boastfully. You know that was the thing I went to and did other things but yeah I'm more like your husband has been I think in that scenario. My memories of those things are very vivid. Even to this day I still cringe too and I was so oh confident. When I was in high school I was so sure of myself and I think oh my gosh was an unpleasant little twit what I think I I hate that girl? I was not that common so I guess maybe that's why you need. Maybe that's part of why it was so ridiculous cringe. Yeah Will God bless you. That's wonderful yeah no I can't. I think there's been a lot of that lease for my daughter this year with her living away from home. There's been a lot of things that happened that I think you know. Why did she have to go through that but so some of it has she may have a podcast? One day. She's going to need to it. This is for your blog Sweden. You're welcome exactly. No I think like if you protect your kids this from these things when they're younger. Yeah just GonNa Happen later sued surly eventually you will embarrass yourself and then have self-awareness. Yeah or just even. I don't know just little things that I'm sure there's lots the things that I do. Remind kids now than eventually. They're going to have to do for themselves in who might be like. Oh I don't feel like I'm doing this but guess what was interesting when I went to secret sin at her dorm earlier this month. are in December And she was doing laundry and that was something I struggled to get to do when she lived at home and just watching her. Go through that process of this. It's kind of interesting not one that I really wanted to shield. I kind of wanted to jump in and help grow with it but at the same time I was like no. I've got a letter. Do this thing you gotta figure this out. She's like only done laundry like three times. What tell me you're kidding? Do WanNa tell them like what things they should put together. And what things ation. Yeah Yeah Yeah see you by. My daughter has already decided to ignore all my teachings. She's like I used to separate this from this map from that. Now just put it all together and then I put it on cold your clothes than tonight. I'll just turn my head. It can't see what's happening. What you don't know won't hurt you Yes they tried to try to teach my daughter the wisdom of not buying a white jacket. She had this jacket chief. Sumner by this Jack and and I'm like no no no. That'll get dirty right away yourself dark jacket she's kind of looking at me like joy And it's like no no really this is this is the. She hasn't bought it yet. That I've seen possibly passively. It's in her closet hiding from me but You know I guess we have to make these mistakes for ourselves. We have to have the dirty cuffs on the white jacket. Think this wouldn't happen. This jacket will bloom great. There was a time when my daughter's team jacket was cream colored art. Oh how unwise. Yeah for you know kids. All the whole the whole gamut of ages about lasted one-season because every team has black jackets so they decided Nah cream colored ones and then they stand out from the crowd. They sure I'll bet I am. I smile son. I dressed arrest in like patterns pretty much higher growing up years just so not have to deal with shirts and it still would be a good idea. Actually go look through his stuff but this going to spare them that Walking around all day with Ketchup. Stand in the middle of your shop. It's just just another just another piece of plaid. We're on the right shoulder. He's our dues are lifelong friends that we can still boy. It's not too late eight one day. You will have an awareness that his mother dressed him that way because this law but no hide looked good dill chart. I mean I never overweight for ever I rarely do you even just just like colored solids or dicey. Yeah they make me nervous purpose ever gone. You're go for the jewel tones. My daughter got a beautiful cream colored jacket just before me laugh. Thank you ver-. And she brought it on our holiday with us and we were holidaying. She was of legal age to consume alcohol uh-huh and she was wearing her beautiful jacket and we're sitting in. A restaurant ensured a glass of red wine. No the point do its part either like I did jump in at that point. 'CAUSE IP Jackie. No in Arkansas. Drink red wine. What am I want? My daughter was wearing her white Work Uniform and we stopped on the way to work and tab lunch and she was gonNA eat She went to Taco Bell and got some like sauce. Feel and I'm like let me wrap you only go get like one hundred paper Napkins just rockies completely Might out of that. You know exactly what's going to happen. Nothing good can come of this. No I remember before for my good friend got married this many many years ago We did the thing where we took all the pictures before the wedding and then we have limited time before the wedding actually started and we were all starving so we got a pizza and turned up up in bath towel. "Uh-huh. They're just feet lame attempt at humor So I pretty much grew up With of ineffectually with my mom my brother older brother who was four years old is is for years older than me and my grandfather My father really wasn't in the picture with us. He was living within the community. He happened to be the husband of my aunt. And so you got slow down. 'cause part of my brain is still going back to the joke. I made about the platform shoes. Terrible person because of course they're they're just like everybody else's platform shoes but I was. I was made with the fish in in the platform shoes shoes. I was just trying to be silly but I worry that it came across as you guys are like the Martians and no no. I didn't take it that way. Yeah Yeah but they're they're I. Well I think there are so so many differences in the way that I grew up and I think there are a lot of kids who grow up on the Rez. Who can kind of relate? There's there's like to relate to the way that I grew up and I think we have a lot of similarities in our sense of humor an alley toilet another great subject to talk about. Can you expand on that as much as possible. Well in our community and others I I see that we like to joke around We don't take things too seriously and we like to tease each other. And just have fun. No matter who you're talking to and your community and sometimes when you apply imply that type of interaction to other people like someone who is non native. They don't always get it. They get a little defensive or they don't want to deal with you. I'm not all the time some of the time. They don't really know how to take it because I don't know maybe they're not used to it or or do you think maybe they're they're like oh she's going after the white man yet. I think there's some of that. Yeah I mean when I when I was in when I was growing up I faced a lot of discrimination and I'm every time I talked to other natives. They have similar similar stories. And you can you share some that you can recall Well in school kids used to call call US names. He's Like engines or dirty Indians. And when I was in high school and what was the percentage adage of native Americans in your school probably about forty percent growing up And we we had a small community the and we had a small town and so we pretty much grew up with these people. Obviously they lived right next to the reservation. Yeah and it wasn't don't like everyone treated us that way. It was just a few people but it really sticks with you when you experience it from a young age. When do you remember what you would think? We're feel in those in those moments I would feel angry In High School will some of my teachers will. What in particular would tell us that We were word Dumb Indians. We should go back to our reservations because that's where we belong.
