"IHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It's the big take from Bloomberg news and iHeartRadio. I'm west Kosovo. Today, farmers are protesting rules that order them to slash emissions. Not from their tractors, from their cows. To talk about that, agnieszka de Souza joins me from London, she is a food reporter and also known affectionately as Bloomberg's food czar. We see a lot of politicians sort of jumping on this bandwagon against green policies in order to curry favor with farmers. There are millions of farmers out there and very often there are strong electorate that politicians have to count with them. They need to respond to their needs because they know that they may lose votes. They also have in several countries. They lobbying is strong in a way you could argue that that may be something that could put breaks on the introduction of climate policies on time and at scale. And it feels like governments are really weighing it carefully. The sentiment of farmers are feeling actually has been to the next ten cops by right-wing groups by a movement opposing vaccinations and COVID restrictions. We even so former U.S. president Donald Trump speaking out on the issue of farmers and on protests and he did say that farmers in the Netherlands of all places are courageously opposing the climate tyranny of the Dutch government. And the Netherlands of all places are courageously opposing the climate tyranny of the Dutch government. Can you believe this? We do see this argument being furthered by conspiracy theories by extreme right as well that climate policies will lead to a reduction of food supplies that it may actually cause shortages, if not famine. You know, you see farmers repeating that argument as well. It does appeal to primordial fears in a way. I mean, we're all concerned about food and people are struggling with food inflation with the cost of living crisis. To actually see that, wow, you know, my food Bill is going to go up even more if my government actually introduces client policy and we're going to produce less forward and the prices are going to go up. I mean, that really appeals to people's fears. We need to pay attention to the populist argument. It's such an easy argument to make, you know? There's a hashtag, there are social media hashtags out there, no farmers, no food. Farmers are using that hashtag, but anti vaxxers are using that hashtag and we're seeing it. You know, from what I read as well in terms of their claims, they're very, very simplistic. And they just very, it's so much more complicated than that. But it's very catchy. And you've spelled out how big a problem this is, and we've heard the very dramatic example from the Netherlands of how deeply people feel about this. And so I guess all that raises the question of what can be done about this. What is the solution here? Tackling pollution from agricultural making agriculture farming and the food systems more sustainable is a multi dimensional problem. When it comes to nitrogen better manure, management, trying to find ways of converting manure into sources of energy, when we look at methane emissions, there are new solutions coming up. For example, feed supplements that are supposed to reduce the work of microbes responsible for the submission. In other words, make them less gassy. Yes, make them less gassy. However, these solutions are still at early stages. And there's no silver bullet for cutting those emissions altogether. It has to be a holistic approach. From an economic perspective, if these regulations go into effect and dairy farmers have to cut the size of their herds, that in itself will reduce emissions, I guess what then happens is dairy products of all kinds, the prices rise and that decreases demand because really, aren't we looking at a problem that people want this, people want milk, they want cheese, they want meat, and as long as there's a demand for it, people are going to want to produce it. And then it becomes just a matter of how much does it cost? Currently, we still produce more food than we consume. What needs to change is actually redistribution of food. The fact that we waste so much food about a third of food produced around the world is being wasted or lost at the harvest level. So this is beyond livestock, but I think it's a very important point. If we were to in theory reduce food waste, we would end up getting more food, so I think, you know, we could speculate on what it will do to prices, but none of those climate policies need to be kind of taken in isolation. There's a variety of solutions. There's a variety of policies that can be implemented, so reducing food waste would be one of them. Coming up with alternative proteins, yes, we do need to acknowledge in your absolutely right. People want to eat that stuff. People like cheese, they love cheese, you know? And they like their steak. So yes, there should be a push towards healthier, more sustainable diets, encouraging people to cut back on meat, especially in the developed world, but at the same time, we need to come up with solutions. Come up with new alternative sources of protein. And those are being developed right now. Precision fermentation is really capturing attention. So producing cow free milk or cheese or protein. And all these things are kind of new and in development and there's a long process to get people to accept them over time and until then you have a lot of these farmers who are pretty angry, I suppose it's not that different from other industries that change over time. The question is, how do you engage farmers? How do we actually bring them on board in order to support that transition in agriculture? New industry is and new food sources will require will still require agriculture will still require farmers to actually produce for them. I think the role of government is to policymakers is to figure out the ways of bringing farmers on board so that they become part of those solutions as well. So the process when it comes to climate policies, supporting new sources of food, needs to be inclusive of farmers. This is something that climate policy makers need to be thinking about. One place we haven't talked about is one of the world's agriculture biggest lifestyle market, which is the U.S.. Also one of the biggest emitters of agricultural pollutants. And yet we haven't seen these kinds of protests in the U.S.. Yes, it's quite interesting what is happening in the U.S. there have been voices out of the U.S. looking to that farmers as an example of why governments shouldn't get involved. But at the same time, when we look at the U.S. climate policies as well and what they want to do with livestock, we haven't really seen much action. That the U.S. isn't really cracking down on farmers in a way that these other countries are. Yeah, that's right. So we haven't seen a push to reduce, for example, demand for meat. We haven't seen a push

From Bloomberg news and iHeartRadio, it's the big take. I'm west Kosovo. Today, how researchers around the world are using the big breakthrough behind the COVID vaccine to find treatments for diseases of all kinds. mRNA is really the middle man. And it brings the code for each gene to a machine in ourselves that reads the RNA and produces a protein from that code. That's Dr. Drew weissman, a vaccine researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. He and his colleague, doctor catlin carico developed the mRNA technology used in the COVID shots. So is the goal now to try to come up with a vaccine against coronavirus that is the one that will attack them all? Exactly. So we and others have been working on vaccines that work against any virus that suddenly appears in the world. Let me ask you about the business side of this. So you paint a picture of a platform that could quickly address a new disease. But the way the pharmaceutical industry has worked is that they wanted to keep a pretty close hold on newly developed therapies because they spend a lot making them and they want to profit from them. Do you see this as the sort of thing where scientists and drug companies would actually share or that there would be proprietary versions of each of these platforms that different manufacturers keep close to the best? So that brings up a associate economic worldview order that scientists like me, we have a view that we need to develop something that can be rapidly used to treat the world. Out of the world deals with that as a whole separate and difficult thing. Is that something that you discuss with your colleagues? We should talk about it all the time. Sometimes not so kindly about how the world sometimes deals with it

"Guy smart by the way you guys got a chance to hang with them. I saw that poolside on with them for a long time. Actually he is truly the nicest human being on planet earth vegas. I didn't know i was going to fly out and have brunch with him. I also didn't know it wouldn't be at applebee's we actually have really nice print. I saw him poolside wearing jeans and drinking a hot coffee which to me. The weather cooperated was was in the morning. You can have coffee out there. Yeah once the son gets up. Then it gets his story. He was like a regular guy. Working at cosco grew up super poor and then started writing and performing music man and he said to me. He's like. I've lived in nashville. I think he's had for twelve years. I lived in nashville for years and years and he said my you cannot imagine how much my life has changed over the past two months and it just it makes it made you love him because he's just normal like zero. I mean he. He was just still surprised. He was going on a tour. Like we're trying to figure this out the songs blowing up so fast. I got six kids at home. We're trying to figure out what we're doing. That's literally nothing better though than meeting and artists that you really want me and then being just normal yeah yeah to hang out with. And then there's the kid leroy. yeah. I'm just kidding by. The way never took off his sunglasses inside outside. When when you see our photos and see how dark it was just realized it was twice as dartford the microphone at the end to. Yeah yeah so. He did in electric set and the daytime stage. You did a really cool performance with you know loud and abrasive and then this is the nighttime performance. He didn't acoustic set douchebag. Yeah you know what. That's a difference though between being eighteen years old and the guy that worked at costco needs to feed your family. I live you rodriguez seventeen. She was sweet and such a great performance. Concert wasn't any area. I find olivia rodriguez whereas lives stuff before. And she sent her like smaller things but this was her debut concert. Know what they don't have the daytime stuff on the on the page. Okay i was blown away by j cole i. I've never seen him live. And i'm i'm such a fan now like you weren't really over. Oh my gosh. She was so good. Live and how about. How would shannon's by she behave herself. Swing sam hunt got onstage. Did lose your mind treatment. That i don't see myself anymore because excited to see so high. We're talking to bosses. And who said you know. They had much stricter guidelines with covert in place obviously anyone that attended had to have be vaccinated and also the tested to be backstage and stuff and then everybody in the in the concert. Venue that bought tickets had to wear masks. So it's very safe place to be. But i was asking the buses. Is this really the guidelines backstage. They kind of restricted backstage area where the artists were or is that just to keep shannon away from sam because if you saw how she was acting well. It's good to have you guys back. We'll have some details about the iheartradio music festival and some of the shenanigans that you guys were involved in coming up here in just a a little bit. I don't know of any pilots are listening by. Just do have a quick question because getting ready to get on the plane yesterday to come home to pilots. Were coming out the bathroom. As i walked in and as they said goodbye to each other. They're walking to separate gates. One pilot said together. Don't crash and i was like whoa. I can't just say that to a pilot out loud in an airport like that's not cool. I i've that there are certain things that you don't ever say in airport one gun or bomb or or bad crash passengers. I'm like that like when dancers say don't break a leg you know you save. I was like no no no no dancers. Tell you to break a leg. Breaking a leg is supposedly good luck. I don't know if you want a cat but is it a thing. Pilots say to each other to say. Don't crash i. I'll be honest with you. I would probably have been a little bit freaked out. Yeah i'll tell you. What if you guys are going to do that. Just come up with a secret. Handshake it in front of the pilots and front passenger in. Did you see them walking out of the bar at the airport. That always freaks me out. Yeah they give. I've been in. Hey they gotta eat too right but every now and again you know you'll see the the pilot walking out of like one of the restaurant. Bars like lone star steakhouse at detroit metro in your like god. I hope he didn't have a cocktail with his. Although i wonder if the people that are you know serving the tables. There probably would know if a guys dressed up or woman's dressed up in a pilot's outfit. Yeah remember when you wanted to send me down to the airport to do a street scam and dress like a pilot. Sit at the bar starting the day. Yeah i mean that's when we found out you're not allowed to dress like a pilot. Yeah you're not a lot that believe it or not. Mike megan you enchanted prayer. I don't think you were a part of the show. It's time but that to dress to go to the airport. Dressed like a pilot is considered a an federal offense. Yeah it makes sense. But also seems kind of petty. You can't dress like an inmate near prison in hitchhike. You can't dress an adult dressed like apprentice at disney. Yeah we find out all these things. Well that's less of a federal offence to the princess thing. Then yeah but but the interesting thing is that this was this was back in the day. I think we'll wasn't there with leonardo dicaprio movie right where he was paying faking violence. That came out. I think if that same spike to the airport dressed up as a as a pilot instead of that of doing that we sent him dressed up as a radio. Dj going to see a bunch of artists perform. And i'm looking at some of these other ones to these other artists. That were there Well we journey was there and apparently in the rest of the country. They do not turn down the music so you can yell south detroit. Oh really is that only. Like i was like wait. Didn't turn down the music. How how how did they sound by the way or how did they look actually sound up. Yeah and the funny thing is there's always one we always have one classic rock band at every iheartradio music festival and they're the guys that wander the halls and never leave. They just love to be recognized. They wanted meet everybody. So i saw journey meets billy irish out to put that video of her of them running up to meet her but deaf. Leopard did it. Leonard skinner did it every year. They just stand in the hall for five hours because they're so excited that everybody wants to meet always amazed by this new guy that's singing or they knew ten years now. I know it sounds so much. Doesn't sound mike test his own flair like it's different but similar. Yeah yeah he's great onstage. Like i've seen them a couple of times when they've come through town and remember his story he was like in a cover band in philippine. Singing journey was that or is he. Doing karaoke bar broke. Yeah somebody from the band discovered him and they were like this guy needs to be on. This guy needs to be if they were they were done. They were lost his voice and they were like All right we need to figure something out because none of the rest of us sound like that..

Let's just talking about you. Know i will have something on that. I probably not worn to this radio. Show before for sure. and why. because we're in las vegas and you kind of feel. You got to do something like that. Unless i was actually thinking about doing my hair platinum like dying at platinum but then i realized i have to hitting. Why was going to do it just for the weekend. But you can't write it. You can't take it back fast. So i can't i mean your hair so short and they feel like no you could figure out. Yeah socrates coming. He's not coming. I know but do you want us something so cute that he did the other day. That like it's one of those little things like. I love obviously flowers and when he's romantic but it was this little thing that he did for me. That made me so emotional. Because i we have to store vaccine or upload our vaccine cards into this app for the festival this weekend. And i totally forgot. I left mine in his at his house in his safe. And so i thought i could just upload a picture because i've had i've taken pictures of it on my phone that's really all i've ever needed it for but you can't do that in this app and so i had such a jampacked day. I was like. I'll have to go to your house the low and he was a bring you your vaccine card. I think that's sweet but hold on this. He live in a hotel. He has a safe. What's what's going on. Why are you putting your vaccine carden safe. What's in it's safe. And i don't know but like i think that i was j w socrates like what is going on. Request Songs on the Radio With Alexa
"Is a very very interesting feature that Amazon just announced with Lexi life. This is called the wrong song requests kill component. And this is the statement that that Amazon has put out about this. This feature will allow radio DJs to engage with listeners by taking song requests and dedications through Lexi. As an example, they say that iHeartRadio will support this feature and actually saw a demo, this whole literally. What happens is a person can speak to Lexi request a song dedicated to someone and then the DJ on the other end will get that list of requests that are coming in. May be able to play songs and this all happens through Lexi. I am very interested to see how this will actually play out. Once we have this feature, well, baked into the skill or we can act The experienced it but it's very fascinating to me because it opens up this whole new world of interactive voice technology with a brand with us. In this case a radio DJ but it could be other brands that are using these features. So I'm very sad to see where this goes in the future. For now it's called the song requests kill component and home. Again, this is available to developers right now to start implementing in their skills. So I will do my best to keep you updated on this as I learn new aspects about this. But I think this is a very exciting one.

We watched as the first americans received the covid vaccine heroic healthcare workers who have been on the front lines of this fight for months it was emotional an extraordinary and it is something we should be very excited about but at the same time we cannot forget that most of us will not be getting this vaccine for months and we cannot lose sight of the crisis at hand because the spread of covid never been worse for almost nine months now i have been reporting on cova covering it every day. The stories of healthcare workers families business owners teachers. I thought i understood the chaos of this moment but a few weeks ago. I realized i did. I became one of the more than sixteen million. Americans who've contracted the virus sorted my family and the experience of getting covid made it even more clear to me the we have failed and continued to fail in some very qa's namely testing and tracing. I'm stephanie rule. Msnbc anchor nbc. News senior correspondent and. This is modern rules. A podcast from nbc. Think an iheartradio on this podcast. We're not gonna waste your time. We're interested in getting straight to the point and they were gonna leave you with some time to think and today we are looking at why the us is failing the covid test and how we can use the tools we have at our disposal right now to maybe get things under control. And i've got the perfect guest here to help us. Try and make sense of it. Dr sheesh off. He's the dean of brown university school of public health and he has been a crucial voice of science and reason throughout this pandemic doctors off. Thank you for joining us. I start with covid nineteen tests. Can you explain to us. What kind of tests are available in the united states. The pros the cons. Because i'm gonna tell you when my husband woke up with a scratchy throat not feeling that. Well i foolishly thought. Let's run out and get a test. There's no such thing as let's go out and get a test so we thank you so much for having me on it. And this is a question that confuses people still nine ten months into this pandemic right now if you wanna think about a test to diagnose whether you have the virus or not you have to twice. It's an antigen tests and a pcr tests. Most of the tests we've used over the last nine months are these. Pcr tests the really good They pick up almost anybody who's infected. They have to be running a major lab and they can be turned around twenty four hours but sometimes the a week. Let's talk about that. Other kind of test the antigen tests. That's the rapid test. Yeah that's the rabbit office. Cheap ten to fifteen bucks a test as opposed to a hundred and fifty two hundred dollars for pcr tests. You should be able to get a result in fifteen minutes. So you're thinking cheap and fast. What's wrong with this story. It's a little less sensitive. So let me explain without me the. Pcr tests will pick up somebody with the infection up two weeks. After they've been infected the antigen tests is really a test for business. So if you are in that period of time where you're spreading the virus. Lots of people the antigen tests will be posits but there are other times. Let's say later in the disease course where you may not have a lot of virus. You're still infected. The level of virus you have is very low. 'cause you're kind of on the tail end of your illness the antigen tests will then turn negatives not gonna be as good at picking those people.

Tips for Making It Through the Covid Winter with Your Relationship Intact
"Look into this episode. Here's something good. A production of the seneca women podcast network and iheartradio each day. Aspire to bring you the good news. The silver lining the glass half full because there is good happening in the world everywhere every day. We just need to look for and share it. Here's something good for today. Purchases of fire pits are soaring and so are the sales of home exercise equipment. Americans are hunkering down for what we've been told will be a very long very cold cold winter and one of the big concerns at this time is how we cope when we're stuck inside this winter. How we keep our anger and check and our relationships intact turns out there. Simple things you can do to stay upbeat this winter in fact you might even find that your relationships improve. That's we're gonna learn today. From one of our favorite guests psychiatrist doctor gail saltz. Dr salts is a clinical professor of psychiatry at the new york presbyterian hospital and bestselling author. She's also the host of the upcoming podcast. How can i help with dr gail saltz. That will appear right here on the seneca women. Podcast now work in partnership with iheartradio. Here's what dr salt had to say. Dr salt thanks so much for joining us. It's a pleasure to be here. So how do we mentally prepare ourselves for this very long ahead. This is going to be hard winter. there is no two ways about it And it was hard summer for many people in now. Everybody is together between schooling and work in one small space and with fewer options to just hang out outside which has various benefits. Not not just the being part benefit but the of being out sunlight being out in nature having physical activity which all are helpful in terms of decreasing stress and improving mental health. So it i think you know People should be thinking about what they can do heading into this winter. That can both mitigate the over togetherness let's say and the over togetherness during a time stress which tends to increase irritability and what they also do in terms of improving or preventing mental health issues as the winter wears on. And so i think those range from having a ecorse some time together that you do something fun and creative and Not maybe what you would typically do basically constitutes play Whether that's even though its cold going out. You know in the snow and sledding together or Were playing board game together or something that feels like off the usual schedule and his son together. But i think that it's also important. Everybody plans some time apart being together. Twenty four seven generally is is extremely difficult. It's pretty rare the relationship that is totally enjoyable. All the time at people don't need some space and that's even space from your children and they from you at various times so Within your home trying to create separate spaces where it's okay for people to go and be on their own so that you know whether that literally is hanging a sheet in the middle of a room to create the sense of separate space with headphones so that you have you know not the sound etc If you can't have separate rooms but using rooms that you don't typically use if you have that room so by separate area is this living room dining room or whatever it may be but if you don't have it creating it within the home having part of that separate space in time be time you can talk people who are not in your pod so headphones again big asset. I think and adding in things to your day and to your families day for themselves that are going to help decrease stress and decrease irritability such as thirty minutes of aerobic exercise each day Using some deep breathing techniques or muscle relaxation techniques to calm your body because i exile eighty does tend to propagate irritability in a short us so incorporating whether it's surprised dissed of mindfulness or some yoga. Some something during your day that helps your anxiety and stress level. Decrease will help everybody getting along better and even though we'll be cold wherever you are potentially do some getting outside bundle up and get outside because being in the sunlight particularly in the first half the day being out in nature any sort of way and being physically active even if it's cold is actually how cold so when we're in these tight environments and perhaps conflicts arise. What is the best way to defuse them. Don't wait until you've been thinking you are ongoingly furious with your family member and then because what happens is basically people tend to sort of suppress it. We don't have an argument as they go along and they go along until they're just had wailing level and then one little thing that little thing that frankly doesn't make any sense to the other person you've got so enraged about happens and there is explosion

The Best Smart Speakers for 2020
"Generation echo. Tout's improved sound while amazon's bestsellers the dot a smaller speaker akin to the radio to echoes. Fm there's also a new kids edition of the dot in dot with a built in clock. Google has what's called nest audio twice the size as the original google home and with way better audio quality than before apple has the homepod mini which is a pint sized one hundred dollars version of the original three hundred and fifty dollar home pod. Now if you'd like to know my opinion about sonic quality. I would go nest audio one amazon. Echo fourth generation to and the hoban many three that said homepods midi more useful. You've heard me say that. Now streaming partners apple only has it from apple music and radio from pandora tune in an iheartradio missing spotify amazon music amazon offers amazon music and apple music as well as spotify pandora tune in iheartradio mri on amazon youtube music. Google it has youtube music. Spotify and pandora is missing amazon and apple music. now there's also video display units amazon. Google had not introduced a new one. This year. amazon has a bunch of echo shows in five inch eight inch and ten inch screens and google. Had what was called the google home hub. Now it's called the nest hub matt's privacy. How do you feel about having your queries recorded. We'll all three do it. Apple less aggressively. Google amazon record in store every query us. Once you use the wake words amazon says it lets users opt in to automatically delete all recorded queries either every three or eighteen months and i say why do you record me in the first place. I don't want to opt in. Just don't record me. Google claims it snoop feature is opt in. But as i pointed out many times google puts the opt in and small-print as part of the app user agreements. Most people's zip right through. They have no idea what they're signing up for apple actually makes you work to opt in by going into the iphone settings and setting it up and of course be beyond music and television. You can use the speakers to control your smart home to turn on and off your lights and that sort of stuff.

HomePod Mini Begins Arriving to Customers
"Of sen pro online when you visit. Pb dot com slash talking so the last big new tech product of the year is set for release this league. It's called the apple podcast meany. It doesn't sound as good as the new google nest speaker or even the fourth generation amazon echo. But you know what it doesn't matter because the speaker is small it's cute it's inexpensive and it's way more useful way more useful than the google nest. Let me tell you about it. I'm jefferson graham. You're listening to talking tech. So here's what you need to know. The mini is way smaller in size than both the new echo and google nest audio and while it doesn't sound as great as either them. It is way smaller after all again. People aren't gonna care how about adding a new homepod mini with that new iphone. What do you say so this is a really useful speaker for anyone living in the apple ecosystem and it makes the siri personal assistant way more competitive with alexa and the google assistant most importantly you don't have to worry about apple's speaker. Spying on you as apple has different privacy policy than google and amazon. The company is not in the business of selling personalized ads. So it's less likely to be recording you in storing the audio on its servers which is something that as you know. Google and amazon both do apple. I entered the smart speaker market in two thousand eighteen with the original homepod. It was priced at a hefty. Three hundred forty nine dollars which meant that. Most people ignored it. It sounded great but nobody cared because it did very little. And it was dwarfed by sales of the echo and what was called the google home now called nest audio with like under a one percent market share but three things that you can do with the new homepod mini that. I think you'll really like number one dictate text messages to send a contacts now. Both amazon speakers and google speakers can't do that. Can you believe it. If you lose your iphone which is not an uncommon problem. The homepod will send a tone to the phone. That won't stop until you find it. The best feature of the mall ditch the tv soundbar by two homepod. Minis connect them to your tb via the apple. Tv streaming box for tv sounded great for music as a replacement to the other speakers. Not discreet but as a tv speaker cliff not be happier. Apples advantage. Is that through apple. Tv you get access to a wider array of streaming services than with amazon amazon. Doesn't offer hbo max. Amazon doesn't peacock and because tv sound is so tinian nature having the audio by the side of the bed to listen instead of having the sound. Come from the other side of the room from the soundbar. Tease or tv speaker is a really nice home theater. Like addition and it's a no brainer. I listened to snakes. Hiss in the old raiders of the lost ark movie. That frankly just wouldn't hurt if it was going through those little speakers now caveats many of the mini music features touted on. Apple's website will require a ten dollar monthly subscription apple music. So asking siri to play drake playlist or great songs from the nineties. Won't get you very far unless you do. Subscribe beyond apple music. The mini plays music from pandora iheartradio in tune in radio missing spotify youtube music amazon music in many others. So which one to buy the homepod the echo or the nest it depends on which ecosystem you feel. Comfortable in the nest to myers is the best sounding of the three. But as good as that is. Do you wanna google device in your home listening to and recording your conversations. Now google amazon says it only does this when it. Here's the wake word but any conversation. That casually mentioned google or alexa can be recorded stored in mind. If you don't subscribe to apple music you're going to be comfortable with the smart speaker. That's optimized for that service. Are you willing to switch them. Spotify are you in amazon home. Like i am with amazon fire. Tv streaming perhaps a fire tv edition television where everything is about that a word in that case. You'd probably want the new

How Can We Detect Tornadoes Earlier?
"Welcome to brainstorm a production of iheartradio. Pay Rain Staff. Lauren. Volvo bomb here. In the same way that ultraviolet light and infrared light exists outside the human eye can perceive sound waves exist beyond the frequencies of what humans can hear when those sound waves are higher frequency than what we can here we call them ultrasonic and when they're lower frequency, we call them infrasonic. Several natural sources, including volcanoes, avalanches, quakes, and meteors produce infrasonic waves also called in for sound. Animals like elephants in Wales may communicate with infra sound and man made inventions like wind turbines can generate these sounds to. A detecting infrasonic waves is one of the key ways governments can monitor for nuclear bomb tests. That's because infrasonic waves decay very slowly, and when they're large enough, they can wrap around the globe several times before dissipating. And it turns out the tornadoes can produce unique infrasonic waves even before tornado genesis, which is when the storm forms an hour or more before. Scientists have known about the tornado in for sound connection for several decades but to learn more about this process and to better understand how humans harness this information, a group of scientists is developing a long distance passive way of listening in on tornadoes in doing. So we'd be able to deal with the fact that three fourths of all current tornado warnings are Lawrence and thus too often ignored or not taken seriously. In for sound could represent another source of data to add to our arsenal. One Brian, Bang and Oklahoma state. University mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Professor said in a press release discussing this research by monitoring tornadoes from hundreds of miles away we'll be able to decrease false alarm rates and possibly even increase warning times. elbing and his team built special listening devices using microphones sensitive to low frequencies that were then placed inside of containers with noise holes and arranged in triangle for precision measurements. The goal was to separate regular wind noise from Tornado noise? elbing said wind noise is incoherent. So if you average it over a large space, it will sum up to zero. Conversely, Tornado infra sound is coherent meaning waves look over large distances. So the pressure waves ad together and contain information. This new capability could mean that storm chasers trying to gather data about tornadoes would be able to take fewer risks in their research. Imagine drones equipped with special infrasonic microphones, for instance, flying in the vicinity of storms, transmitting data to forecasters and scientists. It could therefore help save lives by giving people earlier warnings about potentially deadly storms in the United

A Look At Apple's Hi, Speed Event
"Few huge surprises at apple's high speed event though. There were some unexpected bits. Did. Anybody. See The verizon thing coming? Did we have any idea what? MAG SAFE WAS GONNA turn out to be. There we'll get to those. Most of today's presentation is drawn from a couple of viewings of the Apple Park presentation. We'll also pull from the usual suspects doing their usual bang-up jobs. Apples tested the new phones on over one hundred carriers and over thirty regions. In ideal conditions iphone twelve gets up to three point five gigabits on. which is what makes the Brian Bragging about four gigabytes down kind of funny yesterday. It said the sport, the fastest aperture yet it also features a seven element lens that apple says offers twenty-seven percent improvement in low light performance. Mag Save is an internal thing. Rather than a name for a connector is in days of old MAG. Safe today is a collection of magnets and charging elements that help line up the phone for proper charging. Apple expects a thriving ecosystem of third party doodads take advantage of the newly introduced MAG. Safe. Ness. Mag Safety. Safe thing. Anyway. It's a thing built into iphone twelve. Every model in the line. Now's probably phone twelve many. Except for the size, you can take everything I've said so far about iphone twelve and play it back. iphone twelve many has the same specs as iphone twelve though in a slightly smaller size. The company says the mini is smaller and lighter than four point seven inch models like iphone eight but with a bigger five point four inch display. Apple says, this one is the smallest thinnest and lightest five G. phone. In the world. Talking about last night with Frederik, Van Johnson, and a few other folks on Chuck joiners Mac. Voices. We came to the conclusion that the pro phones for two groups, people who wanna spend as much money as they can afford. Or people who really care about the camera. There's nothing wrong with the camera functionality and the iphone twelve or iphone twelve many. Unless you count they're not being as high end as the camera on the high end. No I'm not a high end photo guy. So there was a lot set around iphone twelve pro, an iphone twelve pro Max that escapes me. The camera on iphone twelve pro boxes said by apple to have a sixty five millimeter focal length from fifty two millimeter focal length and last year's counterpart. It's got five times optical zoom range and the set to support an eighty seven percent improvement in low light versus last year's top of the pro line. I do know enough to be impressed by one thing.
