"We're not just living in the post. Today we're living in an alternate universe post because today and those day we're bringing you sliding does tennis which is kind of ovarian concept isn't it should we. Should we trademark this in some way. Can we patent it. Let's if it's a success. I shower and then and then we'll get onto the patent lawyers wouldn't wouldn't gwyneth paltrow smith about that. She owns the rights to alternates. Alternate timelines well. My favorite my favorite genre of is counterfactual fiction. There's a book called idyllwild which imagines a world in the ninety s where needed jfk nor marilyn monroe died in the sixties and it sort of projecting into the future and imagining a world. That is entirely different. And it's cooled arms on on this spoiler for you or the listeners are highly recommend anyway and it's called idol ball because of course idyllwild. Anybody know this putting on spot here. This is a great little but if trivia idyllwild was the name. jfk airport before it became today airport. I don't know how. I read your david. Private could a medium sized book right. Yeah i take a long time to read books Well it's worth the effort. If you got in your hands in the middle of the night you know we as we did last week. We start off with david. Whitaker's review of what we're about to do podcast as he says it's a really good idea. Like i like counterfactual history. If hitler had gone ahead with the invasion of britain in nineteen forty not bottled it dot dot dot. What if lee harvey oswald missed etc. What if it hasn't rained in henman's semifinal with even vich so my daughter's very much understood the premise. If today's podcast and one of those three we're going to do yes. Thank you very much. David whitaker slash. Dad's fuel suggestions A little teaser of what's come where we are thinking of sort of moment tree seemingly incident significant at the time occurrences in tennis which may or may not have entirely altered the course of tennis history. david would you like to kick us off with the first sliding doors tense moment. Yeah would i'd like to imagine a world in which rafael on the dow was not left handed never decided to to play left hand. All just ended up playing left handed. And it's one of the. It's actually one of the things that i wanted to come back to for for quite a while probably a year and a half ever since we did our rounded out story. Podcast when we were we went deep into his his past and tried to just chronicled his career from it from a very young age and during that process we had been like many other outlets taken in by a the the myth it turns out that his uncle tony had decided that he should play handed in order to be more successful in in order to discomfit his opponents more and we talked about that on that podcast and turns out. That isn't what happened. And we at the time i mean. I think that that podcast got some some great feedback. People enjoyed it. But a number of nadal diehard said cop believe you're still going with this view that refunded. The uncalled decided. He should apply left-handed. I one day. Because that's not the case. So i've also one day i'd like to really look into that and find out what the situation was and when we came up with sliding doors tennis and i chose. This is one of my my selections Matt's produced the referee on the dow autobiography which contains the following passage. I've seen reports in the news media saying that. Tony forced me to play left handed and that he did this because it would make me harder to play against well. It's not true. It's the story of the newspapers have made up. The truth is that. I began playing when i was very small and because i wasn't strong enough to hit the ball over the net. I'd hold the racket with both hands on the four hundred as well as the back end then. One day my uncle said there are no professional players who play two hens. Strictly speaking true. Monica seles did right. Fabrice santoro did right But anyway there are no place press professional players who played two hens. And we're not going to be the first ones so you've got to change so i did. What came naturally to me was to play left-handed why i can't tell because i ride with my ryan tend when i play basketball gulf or doubts. That was the way sounds order. I play right handed to but in football i play with my left and my left foot is much stronger than my rights. People say this gives me an advantage on the double handed backhand and that may be right having more feeling more control and both hands than the majority of players has to work in my favorite especially on cross court shots where a little extra strength helps but this was definitely not something that tony in. A moment of genius thought up. It's dumb to imagine that he might have been out to force me to play in a way. That did not come naturally to me so pretty emphatic rejection of that. That story that we've all kind of taken as just conceived wisdom from over the years a couple things that he's often talked about by commentators is looking like he's got to four hands conventional forehands in in the way he's able to strike the bowl in terms of the the sheer muscular. Rt of his game the way he's able to put you on the back foot from both sides equally strongly and say and he's alluding to that in that analysis of whites useful for him to play. Left

"Tennessee Idyllwild is part of the Presbyterian church USA into his full light and love with hope. Let us worship God. If we say that we have no sense than the truth is not in us. We come to confess our sin before God. And before one another's. And to come to confess is like saying, this is how it is with my life. This is how it is with our life together as the church the ways we are separated from God. So come let us confess our sins in litany, and then in silence, let us cry. Merciful and gracious God, you call us from darkness into light. But we choose to hide in the darkness of fear. Anger,.

"Thank you. I was wondering if today is anyone's first day Idyllwild if you're new so can you raise your hand? Okay. Well, you know, what I think that there are probably some new faces out in the congregation here visiting for the first time, and we certainly hope that they feel at home here. Beautiful rose. And rose has the perfect example. She has a new haircut. So that's something new happening today. Thank you so much beautiful. And there are a couple other new things happening. I I'd like to introduce you to my new friend Marjorie Reynolds Marjorie is here as our interim coordinator of children's ministry, and she is here because there is a new baby on the way as you can very clearly see and Marjorie is going to be here with you all as I'm taking care of my new baby that will be here any day now. So I'm really excited for you all to get to know, my friend Marjorie, especially as the holidays coming out with thanksgiving and Christmas, I know many of you have signed up to be in the special Christmas Eve service, whether you know, it or not you're have signed you up to the angels and shepherds and all kinds of beautiful things. So I'm very excited for you ought to work with my new friend Marjorie together for the next couple of months, and then I'm also very excited today. Because we have the Elisa he will look and see this beautiful white gown Davey elisas wearing why do you think that she might be wearing that white gown? There's a special reason what might be happening today. That's new for Elisa and her family sign. What do you think? That's exactly right. Elisa is getting baptized today, and that is new for her. She's never been baptized. And as pastor and gets ready to sprinkle the baptism the waters over allies head this is what I want you to be thinking about I want you to be thinking that is God's love washing over Vevey Elisa. And you know, we don't always think of God's love is new because we've heard about it before. But actually, it's so strong, and so powerful, and so great that it is new the bible tells us in fact, God's love is new every morning. So as we watch Elisa get baptized, you all get to think about God's love washing over each of you and each of us every day. So I can we say a prayer together. And then you all are going to get the first hand view of this beautiful sacrament for baby Elisa, will you pray with me? Dear god. Thank you. For newness. Thank you. For marjorie. For elisa. For every morning. Giving us your new love. Amen. Thank you. The session. I invite Janette Daniel McConnell and their daughter Elisa come forward as she receives the sacraments of baptism and standing with them will be elisas maternal, grandparents. Reckon Jackie Baker elder. Rick Baker will ask the baptism all questions of the congregation and baptism old, buddy. Judy Johnson Noah Brooks will ask the questions of the children here. The words of our Lord Jesus Christ all authority in heaven and on earth have been given to me so go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and the son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always to the end of the age obeying the words of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am confident of his promises we baptize those whom God has called and baptism. God claims. Us and seals us to show that we belong to God. God frees us from sin and death uniting us with Jesus Christ in his death and resurrection by water in the Holy Spirit. We are made members of this church the body of Christ and joined to Christ ministry of love. And peace and Justice. Let us remember and rejoice in our own baptisms as we come to celebrate the sacrament today Janette and Daniel do you desire that Elisa be baptized? Relying on God's grace. Do you promise to live the Christian faith and to teach that faith to you're smiling? Elisa, do you? Do you intend to be Christ faithful disciple obeying his word and showing his love? To your life's. Then do you? And now Noah has questions of the children for the children. Do you promise to be a friend to Elisa? Yes. If she needs directions, we show her the way. Yes. If she falls down will you help pick her up. Will you play with her and share with the destroys of Jesus? Yes. Thank you Noah. And now Rick has a question for the congregation. Do.

"Following program is sponsored by Idyllwild Presbyterian church seventeen fifty union avenue in Memphis for two years. The Israelites have been hunters and gathers always on the move. Now, they never knew God would lead them next. Even if they trusted God provide the next meal of Mana, they had no idea where that meal would be who can blame them for wanting to go back to Egypt. Settles and somehow made sense. And it's that's the Reverend Talita Arnold. And today, she brings you a powerful message entitled longing for cucumbers Peter Wallace, and this is day one. Welcome today. The weekly program that brings you outstanding preachers from America's historic Protestant churches sharing insight and inspiration from God's word for your life. Now to introduce this week's preacher. Here's our host. Peter wallace. Thank you Sherry today on day one. We're delighted to have with us. The Reverend Talita Arnold, senior minister of the United church of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Khalifa came to the church in nineteen eighty-seven. When the church was a relatively new church. Start of the United church of Christ in Arizona native Talita is a graduate of Pomona college and Yale divinity school. She was interim associate university chaplain for Yale and served congregations in Connecticut in Arizona before being called to the United church of Santa Fe aletha. Welcome today. One. Thank you. It's good to be here. You are last with us nearly three years ago, and you continue to serve the United church as its minister and have for over twenty years. Now what good news about your church? Would you like the world to know? We're just about to finish a construction project. We're adding on three classrooms and expanding the nurture center, and it was supposed to be done by last Christmas. I've finally told the contractor just tell us which Christmas you're talking about. You've written a good deal books and articles in various resources, one of which is the UC's still speaking daily devotional talk about that ministry, and why it's important to you. It is a wonderful ministry. I think it's one of the best things that the United church of Christ. Does it? There's a group of twelve to fifteen of us who write on a regular basis. We represent the church across the country in completely different settings different backgrounds. And each one of us are assigned the particular passage for the day, whether it's Monday or Sunday or any other day of the week. It keeps me honest about keeping the bible and the story at the center of my own life in my own ministry. And I think that it draws the church together very diverse church. The United church of Christ together on a regular basis because each of us some of us come from a pastoral standpoint, some are very committed to social Justice issues are some combination thereof. It's a it's a great ministry. How do people access that they can go to the United church of Christ website UCSE dot org, and then scroll to daily devotional, and you can sign up that way, wonderful place is an important factor in your ministry. You are an Arizona native now living in serving in New Mexico, and I'm sure you've become used to your desert environment. There would you say more about the importance of place in forming and maintaining our. Own identities. As someone who grew up in the desert, the Sonora desert of Arizona and now lives in the high desert of northern New Mexico. I'm very aware of the place where I live. And living now in northern New Mexico. I'm also very aware that I lived in a land scape that has been prayed in for a very long time that Protestants are really the new kids spiritually on the block in New Mexico that Hispanic Catholics have been praying and worshiping and being God's people in that place for over four hundred years and long before that the native peoples of that region have also been praying and learning from the land and being part of that landscape somehow discovering the sacred in the midst of their day to day lives in that desert and Eric area. Therefore is a person who is Christian whose sacred landscape is far away the sacred places of Jerusalem Bethlehem or the Sinai to be in a place where people have blessed that land. Their prayers for a lot longer than my people have been there is a very humbling kind of kind of experience. But it also helps me then as a pastor serving a church that is largely composed of people who've moved to northern New Mexico from other places, it's made me aware of how do you help people find their place in a new place? How do we learn from the landscape around us? How do we learn from the people who've been praying in that in that region for a long time? And how do we learn to find our home and our place in a new place? And of course, New Mexico borders, the country of Mexico, and we continue to deal with ongoing issues surrounding those fleeing violence in Central America, those whose jobs are to secure the borders, and those who have pretty much peacefully coexisted on either side until Nabet when one place becomes a platform of division and fear. What what should people of faith do about that? I think dig deeper. And I don't mean by that putting up more fences or borders. I mean to go deep into those wells deep into those places that God has called us to and deep into are listening to one another across all those lines of division deeper in our understanding that we are all called to be God's children deeper in our understanding that God is with us even in the wilderness times. I do think that much of what the fear that is driving the issues of this country. Whether it's the issues around the border or other things comes out of our sense, profound sense of dislocation, and therefore the stories of our faith, which are stories of people being dislocated, but somehow still finding God in those most wilderness of times, those stories become even more even more important the story that that is part of the sermon for today is that of a people who are afraid they're afraid because they're in a dislocated place. The is. Israelites are two years after the exodus, and they're crying out to Moses to let them basically, go back home. But they can't. Well, I think that that story the story from the book of numbers which in the Hebrew bible is actually known as not as numbers, but it's title is in the wilderness that that is a story of profound dislocation, and what happens when we can't find our way back home. But when we can't do that. Then we then that can also be an opportunity for finding our home where we truly are and finding our home in the heart of God, wherever we are in terms of the physical landscape, we can find our home in the heart of God. Because wherever we are God has promised to be there. And that story from numbers eleven is the basis of your sermon today, would you read the passage force now, the rabble among them had a strong craving and the Israelites also wept again and said if only we had meat to eat, we remember the fish? We used to eat in Egypt for nothing the cucumbers melons, the leeks the onions and the garlic. But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all. But this man to look at. Now the man was like coriander seed and its color was like the color of gum resin. The people went around and gathered it grounded in mills or beat it in mortars, then boiled it in pots and made cakes of it and the taste of it was like the taste of cakes baked with oil when the do fell on the camp in the night, the who would fall with it. Moses heard the people weeping throughout their families all the entrances of their tents, then the Lord became very angry. And Moses was displeased. So Moses said to the Lord why have you treated your servants so badly? Why have I not found favor in your sight that you lay the burden of all this people on me? Did I conceive all this people? Did I give birth to them that you should say to me carry them in your bosom as a nurse carries a sucking child to the land that you promised on oath to their ancestors, where am I to get meet to give to all these people for they come weeping to me and say give us meet to eat. I'm not able to carry all this people alone for they are too heavy for me. If this is the way you were going to treat me put me to death at once if I have found favor in your sight and do not let me see my misery. I can't help. But think about what you said about place earlier in relation to this passage, particularly the notion of longing for home. Whether we're ancient Israelites are modern North Americans. We all experienced this long, not only for home. But but for what we've lost in life. So we look forward to hearing more about how we can deal with this and your sermon longing for cucumbers to that. Thank you for sharing it with us. Thank you. And if you'd like to listen again to today's program or reader share transcript of Talita, Arnold, sermon. "Radio station If I am forty more stimulating talk is the dark secret replace Brian suits in here on till eleven o'clock, or new hours by. The way eight pm to eleven so please enjoy, coming up in, the next break a naval mystery the mystery of the missing, man March of. Nineteen forty two a man overboard mystery that has not been. Sold to this day drone wars the first commercially available drones that were. Weaponized happened, in Syria and Iraq and they they happen because the men of ISIS who don't have an air force did have money. And had access to European markets and. For that matter markets in Turkey and so commercial drones usually under about two hundred dollars were purchased in Turkey off the off the market Just, in toy stores or whatever in Turkey brought into Syria and then the the simple, engineering matter of adapting the usual HD camera hookup underneath the drone to do something as. Simple as release a grenade was actually fairly simple if you if you don't know how this works I've met a couple of drones with HD, cameras on them or. With mounts where you can mount a little gopro, camera on them, and the drone communicates by direct wifi to your to an, app on your. Smartphone where you can use the gopro camera or the built. In camera as a sort of a virtual piloting cockpit where you can. Put the, camera forward and you can fly the drone around as if you're sitting there on the drone but you're looking at the. App on your phone is actually a. Lot of fun and that's how they do those drawn races like in Balboa park and things like that Anyway some of these drones can carry You know up to Up to two and a, half or three pounds and some of. The really significant ones the ones that are used for actual filmmaking or commercial production can can wield up to. Seven or eight pounds and so what was done by ISIS in Syria was a simple matter of replacing the, camera mount, underneath with With some sort of mechanical release or in many cases leaving the camera and using that as guidance system and then, including a mechanical release because as you. Recall nothing happened in ISIS world unless they had video of it and so starting about five years ago you began seeing these pretty amazingly, cinematic HD drone shots of a drone undetected at about a thousand feet coming over a Syrian army position or an Iraqi army position and then it would lower in place it, would lower a couple of hundred feet. And when it seemed to be stable and the the cameras seemed fixed over one particular area like a bunch. Of fuel or munitions or whatever the the drawn would drop a adapted forty millimeter grenade that had a thin For instance like tissue paper role for a tail fin something. Really really crude but it oriented and. Stabilize the projectile in flight so it would generally fly straight down and it would blow up on impact and they did this for hundreds, of times before they finally got a success they finally got a spectacular success in the form of exploding Syrian ammo dump and It looked like they had mastered drone warfare and so they were immediately copied they. Were copied in Yemen by the who sees they were copied by. ISIS in Iraq They were copied by ISIS inspired terrorists and, Libya but the guys in Syria. Were the originators of it and really the masters of the craft so some of them Began putting stories up on YouTube or other other sort of dark, web or even, slightly light regular web read it and fortune. Started putting how to videos on how to modify common battlefield munitions like forty millimeter grenades into. An, aerial drop impact weapon and Furthermore how to modify commercially available drone something that could get off van Masan and shipped to Turkey or whatever into a killing machine now the the range of these drones generally is not really more than a mile that goes more than a. Mile than it's going off GPS at which, point you have to, know the precise location of where the bad guy is and then you you drop the munition. Well so this was Successful as a propaganda play. In Syria but really not much more it was an annoyance as the Iraqi army overran Mosul about a. Year ago, the guys. There in in, Mosul the ISIS guys they had several years to prepare for this they had an arsenal of hundreds of a cheap little drones the ones that you get, for less, than eighty bucks at target or you can get them on Alibaba Amazon and they had nothing but time to modify them and, also to teach, their man how to utilize them so the. Iraqis had a lot of men wounded a few even killed but it was really more of. An annoyance and anything else but it did produce some pretty spectacular video of for ISIS you got this video of Iraqi soldiers running around after the first one hit or when they heard overhead so anyway fast forward now in Israel the HAMAs terrorists have been using kites and, it cetera too Start. Forest fires have been using drones but these rarely authorities have, not been releasing this to. The media well the jig is up because now the Egyptians are seizing huge. Shipments of cheap drones at the HAMAs get Gaza, crossing point and so now Gaza have guys. In basements doing nothing but making drone bombs so the drone, is now the asymmetric weapon of the little guy the next step, of course is somebody in the US is, going to do this you know it because it's all over the web is easy to do and someone. Else's already redoing it so anyway that's your drone warfare update it's cheap. Is it effective it's goal is to terrorize so is it, effective yes it is is going to win a war no. All right when we come back in naval mystery from nineteen forty two the dark secret place continues right. After this, Brian in. "Why don't you Six Coming up on Sunday morning with Elizabeth Espinosa I've got star is about LA behaving. Badly that is if you survive this heat wave Sunday morning with Elizabeth Spinoza tomorrow morning at five on KFI AM six, forty, four stimulating talk AM six forty more stimulating, talk Bill Handel This is on the law. Marginal legal advice Hey, Charlie. Welcome to handle on the law yes sir This is my question I lived in I live in the city of San Diego County, of Los Angeles in the northeast, section of the, city which is, Valerie by Arcadia purity other larger cities what has happened the sidewalks in my neighborhood are getting so degraded that. They're causing a hazard when people, try and walk away I discovered this when I retired I also developed the doctor told me to walk. More wife and I got out. Only. To find it the sidewalks. Are just so bad okay content I contacted the city the city has. Told me that because these are not really, a sidewalk they are an asphalt sidewalk if. You, would, they are not responsible for keeping. Them, up Sidewalks or between. Two schools oh wait a minute hold on it they're not. A sidewalk there asphalt but do they. Look like a sidewalk absolutely the act like a sidewalk first of all I've never heard I've never heard, of asphalt sidewalks I've never seen, one of those, it's always concrete, so you're telling me if you have a normal sidewalk that you see you've. Got the front yard then the. Sidewalk and then a piece of, grass and then the street right yeah okay kind of like a main thoroughfare okay but it's still the. Main thoroughfare but it's still that. Way. It's it's basically acts like. A sidewalk the ground you know the the front yard sidewalk the the. Green and then the street so the only, difference is it's asphalt and it's not concrete Interesting and. That is does, that belong to. The city who owns that, I. Would guess it would be the. City unless they. Say it's all private property that it's is my thoughts I believe it, belongs to the city okay, and I got I contacted them and and one of the other questions, I? Had. For. This because they have no accessible. Wheelchair. Ramps on on the corners yet, they come back to deny. That I have an Email that they, are not, responsible because, they are not sanctioned, sidewalk, is basically what they're giving me oh. Interesting I don't even know what a sanction sidewalk is by Yeah That it's the fact that he's a poured concrete rather than. This I don't, know if concrete if a sidewalk is defined as having b. Comprised of concrete, and no other material I think you have, to look at I the. I don't even know why. The ordinance ordinance say sidewalks are comprised of that's a really interesting point I, so I don't even know if there's been a lawsuit filed research it but I'd be surprised if. There was a lawsuit filed saying that, this is a sidewalk and asphalt sidewalk is the same as concrete sidewalks but for the fact that it's concrete and it'd be very well be an, ordinance or even a statute that deals with it and define. Sidewalks concrete then I don't even know where the. Hell, you vote this I've never heard of this before by the way Charlie this is a. Weird one, now and that surprises city's trying to. Get out of it of, course they tried to get out of everything Sure More. Thing let me add to this is the fact that I did look up on the Americans with Disabilities, Act and there's a section to that is clearly states in there that the the city's obligation is to maintain a sidewalk that is. There I guess there have looked it. Up they have lifted up also and their their entire. Premise is that because it's ask, fault it's it's not a. Sidewalk And maybe not so much the asphalt it's just the fact, that thirty nine it's a sidewalk well okay and I don't know how the hell they deny it's a sidewalk I really don't not. Only that like I said we're borderline. Stand Gabriel and triple city both we'll start denying borderline it's either on it's either in, one city or the other Creek, crosses over it's it's about a mile stretch okay, so goes across the line right correct. Okay well I would think every city is responsible for everything on their side. Of, the. Line so so what do you want to do what's your question what do you want to do as a result of this well I I'm retired now I have nothing but time on my hands who I, approach next I'll take as far as I can I would go to, the city council and they have open hearings open meetings odd definitely I. Would talk to the city attorney and let. The city attorney know that it looks like the cities in violation of the ADA American with Disabilities. Act and you see if there are any organizations out. There, and, I'm sure there are that deal with ADA issues. And the government. And there are even their even. Firms law firms, that deal with it now there's two. Different. Kinds of law firms. They're the kind of law firms that are bunch of predators Sleazeball, law firms that go against small businesses where the, ramp is the wrong the elevation is. The wrong degree is supposed to be at twelve degrees and it turns out. It's, a. Thirteen degrees in their forcing relation and they actually extort the business owners there's those and then there are firms that are on the other side who actually deal seriously with with ADA violations and this looks like, it's one of those so I just do some research and put in, some ADA law firms as search words and see where you go on. That and talk to the city attorney's office. And talk to the council that's where I would okay okay Would it be advisable to take pictures and God yes oh yeah oh yeah I take. All the pictures you. Can. Okay All right all right? Charlie take care interesting interesting? Proposition isn't it and their denial that it's a? Sidewalk. How do. You, point. To a sidewalk say that's not a. Sidewalk This is handle on the law Julie? Slater in the KFI newsroom The fire near Idyllwild has more than twelve thousand acres.
