"Is in theaters now. It had rented by james gunn who we know from guardians of the galaxy. Of course also very show starring. Here we go. Long cast idris elba margot robbie. John's sina david dust malaysian gino's and who. I forgot to write down some of the other credits. But you raise a very recognizable character actor. Some actress play quirky. If you just plays weird weird care. I texted this morning. So hopefully i'll come on god. I'm a big fan. I really enjoy bit. do we have here. Viola davis done yellow mature jokin in and a voice over role by silvester stallone. Well yes indeed. This is ninety one percent on rotten tomatoes at is in theaters. Now it's also playing the hbo mac until the end of the month. Which i'm guessing you probably saw it song theater. No shit about that. Nice recommend the big movie. Yeah the one year. The fifteen months sabbatical from going to movie theaters. I'm trying to kind of make it up. Also used to be this go to theater twice a year three times a year. I'm trying for more like once. A month of it. I saw in the theater to it was an awesome. Experience is a big movie budget wise or box office. I mean the movie fills the screen summer movie. Keep heading the suicide squad not to be confused with the previous suicide squad. That came out in two thousand sixteen directed by david air. Starred will smith karyn delvina injure lido as an unfortunate turn is the joker so totally different. Move on though. I mean you different. There's no plot similarities. And i mean other than the overarching kostov of of villains right. Comic book villains assembled in. Durham enduring captivity in prison there. Whatever viola davis plays this government operative. And she's putting together this this task force of criminals if they complete the task ten years off their sentence. They're in prison for shooting superman or whatever he's doing cetera et cetera. That previous movie twenty six percent on rotten tomatoes. Don't check it out. i don't recommend it out. Adam this Figure somebody's about the right age for this but this is a hard art. There's violence and language throughout this is not for kid kid kids. You know what i mean probably gonna kick out of it and also i mean. They've seen everything they've heard everything down. There is no more. you know. We're a kids there. Is this veneer. This possibility of shielding people from stunned. There is no more shielding anyone for anything anymore. Kids just have it all on their phone. So i got a clip here so i can't tell too much about the movie because one of the things out of my like the best about it. I'll just say the opening the opening was a real gauntlet. Throw or you're like. Oh now i know movies going now is and now. I know what does move. You will and won't do but let's just play so they assemble. the team. got him inside military transport. Here's pete davidson as one of the villains being transported to his mission next to some kind of humanoid creature trying to figure out what it is dog..

"Welcome everybody to film house. We are the luckiest probably generation of all time and that is because we get to suicide. That's right you thought back in two thousand sixteen that you don't ever get one but no we get to We are actually going to be reviewing These suicide squad. Twenty twenty one. James guns film This week on film house. And i have two amazing guests to do it with me. come on out a least williams and marcus turner. Hey hello at least williams you of course know from funhouse and film house and basically a show every single week Marcus turner you. I thank you for coming back and joining us again. Thank you from the cosmonaut variety hour. It's an amazing channel. If you love movies. I mean honestly if you love a lot of media because i feel like sometimes you even cover other things to Just a super fun. Good way for people like me who wanna get good film criticism in a like really. I don't bite size in some of your videos are a little long either way. Some seven minutes comedy in its criticism. It's movies it's media. It's great stuff. you joined us. Previously for our snyder cut review. He'll go it feels on. It feels how many snyder cuts ago was that. Because your time. But i'm really happy to have you back to discuss the suicide squad. I wanna do to disclosures at the top We work for rooster teeth. Which is a subsidiary of warner brothers. Which is the company. That made this warner media. And so just keep that in mind Just wanna make sure you're aware of it. And the other disclosure is that i watch a lot of marcus's videos and tend to agree with him. I would say ninety nine percent of the time so this may feel like an echo chamber berta. Finally i didn't know how marcus felt about the film. When asked him to be on but him being here. I'm pretty confident this going to be a fun review so now that those are out of the way. Let's just jump right into it. We're talking about the suicide squad. Twenty twenty one written and directed by james gunn after he was fired by disney for like three weeks he did this all in three weeks One hundred thirty two minutes starts idris elba margot robbie. Viola davis john cena and joachim among many many others. I just wanna toss this out to lease. What are you jump. kick off this and jump off. Damn i wanted marcus the starts. I could just be like because you would actually like put it in an eloquent way. I love this. I loved this movie. I i i was a little bit predisposed to love it going in because i enjoy the guardians of the galaxy movies. I was sold on the trailer for this. I loved the idea of james. Gunn saying i'm gonna soft reboot this. I saw all the early reviews and feedback. So i was also kind of biased. Thinking like this is going to be a great movie. And i it delivered completely something i think a lot about with james gunn and maybe you both agree or disagree is that he's a guy that came from trauma. He came from this very kind of trauma being considered sort of the the unintellectual of on guard avant-garde movie world right. He's he came from a place where he his calling card doesn't really come with a lot of prestige. I think may be the external bias that he would have. And i love that. He's now hollywood's golden boy and he's making these movies that are like critically acclaimed and the the stigma of maybe. Oh this guy. Came from trauma doesn't affect him. I actually think it works to his strength. Because i think all the crazy weird shit that he liked putting trauma movies that was his bread and butter fuses. Beautifully with the comic book genre. And he's making like amazing weird fund stuff because of that and it's like maybe disney Dc marvel warner should be Plumbing more directors from these weird baumgart releases. Yeah where do where do your broad thoughts on the on the film. I like i was by saw. The trailer is on a mike. Yeah this is gonna be is going to be good. It's a done deal. Like with james gunn being able to kinda whatever he wants and like. I like the guardians movies. A lot. Like i think those are you know some of the best superhero movies like they definitely changed the trajectory of the eu. In my opinion that's of like the point where things kinda changed 'cause like before that was like a age of altron and that's looking like a normal marvel movie for the most part and but when guardians came out i think studios were like. Oh people like weird stuff about characters that are like gonna dumb like before that rocky raccoon would not have been like a household name but he can take emma's characters and make them interesting without like you know like like you said he can use his kind of strangeness from like the trauma stuff like people like seeing weird pulpy stylistic choices in movies sometimes like quintin uses title cards in like classic movie tropes and stuff like that in the end people. Enjoy seeing that. Because you don't see that all the time and in this movie you get like a very kind of pulpy comic book ye like kind of like trashy away but like in a way that works. And i think it worked really. Well i think in younger view. Marcus you talked about how the title cards in the movie actually distract you from. Maybe some of the structural problems. Yeah like it's like normally. If i'm reading a trade paperback of a comic and it's like you know issue batman issues five hundred five hundred six and i'm not gonna be like. Oh you know issue hundred three was kinda like slow and boring button. It felt like this was kind of like a comic book. Like like trade paperback. Like you know some some chapters may not be you know as exciting or you know but they do contribute overall to the finished product. So like some of the pacing issues for me. We're forgiven by the fact that i was in my head like oh look gruden comic book and this is always the new chapter.
