"I guess, let's start asking the broad questions and then you can drill down. You. WanNa, get John Let's start with. You should there be barbecue competitions taking place right now, and if you a promoter, how do you go about it and would you be looking for any kind of guidance from a sanctioning body? I'm going to flip that a little bit. All right. I would be looking for guidance from the sanctioning body even though the sanctioning body doesn't own the contest promoter owns the contest. But all the. That are promoter ghosts to come from the sanctioning body. Right whether it's garnish or no garnish or whatever. That is. So I do believe that the sanctioning body has some obligation to set some standards and rules back to the promoter to ensure consistency across the board. But nobody really wants to touch that 'cause it's a fairly hot topic. Would you be putting on Barbecue contest right now. If you could socially distance it properly. Yes, I would. All right. Doug shotting your thoughts. Yeah. I'd never really given too much thought to the differentiation between the promoter and you know IBCA kcbs pick your picture sanctioning body but there are definite distinct lines and in this whole situation has really brought it to the forefront. So I presume most people know that like you know IBCA is not sanctioning any contest through October first, but there's Lonestar down here that that is sanctioning and the promoter at this time has to get a approval from the city to have any sort of contest and we can't have gatherings over a hundred people so I mean you know if you have teams of twenty five, that's that you're going to have at least seventy five. Cookers they're let alone the the buzzards that come in, eat you know the general public and then all your judges in things like that. So it's really the promoter in I always looked at. It is the sanctioning body that if you've got music on till midnight or one a in the the offer someone's being rowdier causing trouble or whatever is really the promoters problem, it's not the sanctioning body and The sanctioning body needs to be the leader in the same point of, is it going to be safe for his inauguration? Be Safe to hold contests? Rusty. Your thoughts I, know you had had emily detweiler on your show a couple episodes ago. But you guys had talked about what you'd like to see from a judging standpoint specifically where we're at in the current covert situation, your thoughts on competitions promoter's sanctioning about. Well, as someone who wanted to do a backyard league that would be sanctioned by kcbs actually cancelled that this year. Because of the Kobe issue, and then at this on the same ticket I am competing regularly and seeking out competitions to compete in. It's hard because I think that you should have some help with exchange sanctioning body only because you don't want to be the asshole out, they're going. You can't do this because I said. So it's more of you know this. Invisible entity that you can blame if you need to, you know because people get a little bit angry about it if they do, and so it's nice to have the rules set and everyone knows that's where sanctioned body can come in. But as far as the promoter goes, it's an IT's impossible I've been them to them several of them rightly, and you know like I, said, you can social distance in this competition world naturally, and it's not hard. But unfortunately, especially, as barbecue folk were very very social, we want to see each other and next thing you know you're talking and you look around and there's twelve of you basically hugging so. You know it's hard. So I me personally i. Didn't do it because of that, but at the same time I will compete so. Is there a bigger issue in Duggan, Russi can probably speak to this a little bit more than John Myself. Ken. But just from an observer standpoint. I can. I can see where from a competitor's standpoint. We can talk and feel a little okay about distance and and keeping these plans in place. But at some point that food goes into a box and he gets turned into a judge and typically they're intense close quarters. Is the bigger issue being able to keep the judges distant from themselves or a just an overall. Rusty. Yeah, it's. That's the hard part because you know it's easy for us. I'm an at worst I'm at a ten by ten spot and the guy next to me is at least six feet away and I can easily do it. But as a judge, if I'm not placed properly, then that's difficult. You know. So it's going to have to someone the promoters going to have to provide the space for everyone to be six feet apart. Everyone's gotta be gloved up mast up and all that stuff. So it's a very difficult situation, and that's where you're right. You have to tackle that area and in order to be successful if you want to avoid. Any backlash with the COVID. It's right in the judges ten and my experience judge you agree or Doug, you agree that judges kind of the biggest issue here. It is except for, let's the cooks meeting. You know everyone knows tends to gather around and get together. You haven't seen each other you know that in award. So those are probably the two hotspot areas are times during a cook off from a cooker standpoint because you know down here, we're usually forty forty in all of our spots forty by forty, and so we're we're very wealth. You know social distance or physical distance from the other teams but. But the the judging is is an area that wooden and I think what the American royal which I know. We'll talk about. That's GONNA be their problem is the hundreds of judges that that they need and when I spoke to actually one of the IBCA judges she said, they haven't had a problem this year getting judges normally at a contest, and here you know we've got becky sue and Billy Bob, you know doing the judging. They have sometimes they have trouble getting judges and then they asked teams for. People to come help judge. That's that's what my boy considered. Not Coming next year because you've got someone that tastes the food that could be a little If you know if you're box comes on that table, hey man. That's all tens you know and they're off to the next round. But and and I've known several instances where that's that's happened, but they've had. Had more judges than they know what to do with, and so they actually have been have been trying to keep them all so that they can judge which creates another larger problem. If you're only expecting seven judges a table or you know a judge's a table or six or whatever. So yeah. Because they don't WanNa turn judges away because they won't come back next year. Judge you. John You WanNa add anything before I do one last break, and then we come back and talk about the American. Let's take a break and get to the royal. All right. We'll take a break and get to the Royal John Sending me away here as he does professionally. Barbecue Gurus longest running sponsor.

"So that was pretty cool I was. Excited you know I think right now. It's really actually means a little bit more. Since everybody's kind of down in the dumps with everything a little bit, and it's like you know like a business struggle and raise having a hard time like it's kind of. You know pretty pretty cool for me, but really I think I. do a pretty good job of maybe not paying much attention to things like that I'm always Kinda. Real Kind of like you know I got my way through things. Like Oh. Yeah, that's a tool. Word, Neto and not not really read into it too much and think about it too much but I'm super duper excited about about the hall of Fame I. Think That's way cool. Does. Does anything. Speak to wear the general visibility of the Barbecue Hall of fame rank amongst the general public like if it's something that you don't think about or like I'm the first guy that's texting you for me, it seems like the hall of fame should be holding. Something a little bit more. Weight. I'm not saying that you don't think it's a big deal. You said obviously a big deal but I've talked to any number of other people who either a didn't know. There was a barbecue hall of fame or be did know the process or how people are selected or where all this other stuff, or maybe because it's so new, it's just something that needs to gain a continual steam. thoughts on addle. now I think it it. You Know Barbecue, Kinda what what we all do it granted barbecues far more in the mainstream now that it's ever been charged like restaurant barbecue, and it's so competition barbecue, and but you know like Kacie B, asset, Ibca and all those little. Little pockets I think they're still maybe not super duper mainstream so maybe the general public. You know they don't maybe know about these things but I think within certain circle obviously. That's what's going on That's that's when people are really into. I certainly have known about this thing for a long time since the beginning I think it was started. Five or six years ago or so I mean when the American royal took an over, but it believe it or not existed online originally is just some kind of an online presence that remained fairly stagnant for for some time, a originally founded on good terms, but just didn't really go anywhere until the Royal Got Ahold of it and has now. Yeah, made it into. Into, what it is certainly partnering with the show over the last couple of years and releasing names, here is really added gas to the proverbial fire, but getting it out there and getting people more aware is only going to increase visibility. Would would you say that you would show up for the whole ceremony and and make the speech and all that you're looking forward to that? Oh absolutely. I was actually there the for the year that. Oh Gosh. I was a I was a went to the WanNa. Say was the first year that they gave out. The the hall of Fame Award I was actually there at the ceremony with hanging out with some friends. I've actually been there before and I would I would love to go back. was that the year that they put in Guy? Fee Eddie. Right yeah, so that would have been the first year that the American royal took it over. So you'll be there you'll be. You'll be making speech. It'll be great. Does Ray will be there? Obviously Joe John Davidson so that'll be the classic. You're going in for his sense. You're going to be there any chance. He might take a shot at the American Royal Open. I've never cooked on the dark side before. More at. It's at the race track now so it's either all the dark side, or.

I just thought our kids really came in and we're very focused. We jumped out on twenty seven to two in the first quarter. And you know, like we've talked before December just continues to produce it continues to get better. And it's been a big difference maker lately. Well, it certainly has been and then he gets underscored tonight when you look at limiting Gibson southern to only forty five points. That's a great defensive effort. Yeah. And obviously I mean our goal team goal. Every night we go out. It's fifty points or less and take our kids. Take a lot of pride in that now. And it's just nice to see them produce on both ends of the floor. And we started out in the extended our defense in the full court and turn them over early. And just start our decent jump on offense. So you know, or guys in double figures again denied so kids sharing the basketball, which obviously every coach loves to see that. So just really happy. You know, we've got. Big test tomorrow as we head to the Indiana Kentucky Challenge Cup in new title. So we're really looking forward to that. And try to get the kids out there and get home and rest up and we'll jump on the bus at eight o'clock in the morning. Who you playing tomorrow? We got Madison central. Okay. So they've got they've got a very solid team. Got a kid signed with western Kentucky, six eight two hundred forty pound guy inside. So this is a big challenge for us. And we're really excited about it. Because you allow us an opportunity to see somebody difference that you're not used to playing all the time. And and yet a quality quality opponents and to play on the field house castle is is is really a big honor for us. Nate Hawkins is the basketball coach at heritage chills tonight. They are an impressive winner. Over Gibson southern be involved in the IBCA, Indiana, basketball coaches association, Indiana, Kentucky matchup tomorrow tonight. Jim Brenner joins me the hall of fame broadcaster from WBAI in Marian. He's on the call of Madison grant's sixty nine sixty seven win over Blackford. Jim what a great game tonight. And you know, Bobby a lot of people may not know the name Luke Brown or what he's been through the last year and a half. But this young man got to play about half the season last year now as a south he's the state's leading score going into this game tonight at Madison grant, he was twenty two as a varsity basketball player at Blackford. He steals the ball with one well about three seconds to go in the game ball club down by one. Hitch two free throws to put Blackford up sixty seven to sixty six. Okay, madison. Grant's gotta go the length of the floor. They throw them too. Big south. Moore's Cooper and holiday throw the ball long to Cooper fumbles the ball. How picks it up turns. Virtually one hundred eighty degrees of trying to get off a three from the time line at the buzzer and gets all all know,.
