"That was put out there that we were set up to fail. Kaelin mentioned the changes. But i would argue the to field players outside walkers airman who maintained from the last game they looked exhausted in the first half in yunus mussa and paul arriola. And you talk about that. I mean i mean at some point. Gregg berhalter hands are tied. Or do you put this on him for the way. This team went out and perform. I mean obviously. He made some of the wrong calls with how much rotated in who he rotated at. I maintain that the home games are more important. So i took completely understand keeping tyler adams fresh trying to anyway i completely understand heating miles robinson antony robinson is well sergio I completely understand all of that What i don't understand is how calinikos Sebastian legit You know a few other guys. Iasi's artists was in great Tim away all these guys who have played so well. I mean again. Calendar cost does the man of the match in the gold cup final. it's mexico. It was the best player on the field playing the number six and he finally got a chance to play number six qualifying tonight. She looked afraid of the ball. He looked afraid of the moment. And this is the guy who's played in qualifiers before carolina coast is played in the as tech in a qualifier before he's had big moments for club and country in central america before so it was really disheartening to see these guys who all summer long were making a case for being the type of depth that would get the us through qualifying with ease but with few moments like like this one Really shy away from it. It was it was that first half is especially tough to watch. Obviously tyler adams bumped it up a level in the second half but Even that was not it was still not good. And the guys who i mean. We've seen repeatedly throughout this year. Guys given a chance to step up in the moment in win and do it It was the opposite of that tonight. It is like playing so poorly that you you have to lose confidence in them after this performance so we did this show after the gold cup final. We celebrated the big mystery. This this summer was who who can replace tyler adams. Yeah and we came here. Killing casa is it the role. Can he not play that role. Is he really an eight. Does he needs to be in there with tyler is. He's been better as six it for the us than he's ever been as an aid because as an eight he doesn't get on the ball and dry forty doesn't do the stuff that we saw yunus mussa do the other night but he didn't even a sixth today either. I know if we have seen him. We have seen him do that. Though wit right we we saw him do that against mexico against cutter. We those are. Those teams are better than panam. We saw him do that why he wasn't able to do it tonight. I mean he's got to ask himself that gregg. Berhalter gotta figure it out too because wouldn't basically the whole team comes out flat Something has gone wrong with.

"Really want shorter hours, so it could it could change this time. Right. And so, Andy, would you give up over time for shorter hours? Absolutely. The unsustainable lifestyle takes a toll on you that the Slight increase in overtime hours does not cannot buy you back. I believe there's a shifting tide in the industry to trying to create sustainable rest, period and start to Kind of detoxify, uh, working conditions unset, which would allow us to work more days. If there was such heavy decompression periods where you try to get your life back because you have nothing except for work, sleep and attempting to Prepare for the oncoming hours. Aren't there strict rules when it comes to turn around time and providing room and board if the shoot does go late into the night? So there are, however they they're merely financial penalties that I've had. My turn around. Invaded is what they call it, which is when they do not grant you The turnaround time it functions much like over time. It just means that you get a couple more hours on your paycheck. And similarly, if you ask for a hotel room after working, I believe it's 13 or 14 hours that they have to consider it and offer it to you. However, transportation if you just want to get home that can become an issue and a lot of the times your ability to think clearly. Once you hit five or 6 14 hour days in a row, it's really impaired. That just as you were drowsy, driving your attempts to take care of your safety when you just want to go home and see your family it really I've experienced it myself. I have made some very poor decisions after working A 70 hour week that I wake up in the morning and I'm like, I'm lucky to be alive for the drive that I just made. Oh, my gosh, that is really frightening. And so, Dave, let's talk about this contract so it ended in late July. The deadline to negotiate a new one has been extended to September 10th. So this Friday And so what do you think is going to happen with this new negotiation? Well, if past is prologue, they'll they'll make a deal because I etc has never had an industry wide strike against the film on television industry. They've struck a small, you know, one off productions, but the industry wide strike they've never done so this year. They're taking a much harder line. They've said it at negotiations so far. They remain very far apart on the major issues, which include shorter hours, residuals from the streaming services and a livable wage. And protection for their pension and health plan. And so there really seems to be a groundswell of support for Taking a tough line at the bargaining table. There's always talk of a strike every every time one of the major unions Renegotiate his contract. There's always talk of a strike. At this time, there seems to be a real threat of a strike. Whether they will strike or not, we won't know for So the next week Andy, What do you think? Do you think just by taking the temperature of your fellow union members? There's appetite for a strike. I can only speak to the people that I work closely with. But we would need to see major improvements from the contract that I have heard negotiated. But the temperature I've heard is that we want a serious change in the working conditions that were under We want a living wage that makes it so It's sustainable for us to have a reasonable, sustainable paycheck living in Los Angeles, working eight or 10 hour days. I'm not trying to relitigate labor law like it's the 18 sixties, telling us that it's completely fine for us to work 14 hours a day. Dave. What? What are the streamers and what are the production companies say about this? Well, Zuri negotiations. They they don't say anything. They like the way things are now and they'll do whatever they can to keep it going, so I would imagine that they're going to Try to meet him halfway in the middle. But if if that's not good enough, we'll see what happens. David Robb is labor editor for Deadline. Hollywood Andy Kennedy. Dir K is a cameraman and member of Iasi. Thank you both so much. Thank you very much. Thanks for island up.

"Along a concrete flood channel in the Valley, A half mile long mural tells the history of L A. From ancient days to the 20th century, the mural is a running narrative. It's like a ribbon of color, and it begins in the pre history and the first indigenous peoples extending and updating the great wall of Los Angeles. That's next on greater L A Today at one at 6 30 on KCRW. It is about that time to check in with Madeleine brand to find out what's coming up at noon on press play. Hey, Madeline. Well, hi. We're going to begin the show with addressing the booster shot confusion that is now everywhere. It appears so apparently in a couple of weeks, the federal government will allow people to get a third dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Only Fizer, not Moderna, not Johnson and Johnson. We'll find out why we'll find out whether you should get one who's eligible. All those kinds of questions will be answered. At the top of the show today, so Interesting. Yeah, when it comes to boosters, Uh, we'll also talk to a member of Iasi. That's a union that represents film and TV crews. And they're complaining that there are working really long hours these days, of course, working long hours on set nothing new at all. But they had a brief reprieve at the beginning of Covid. When for health and safety reasons, they weren't allowed to work really long hours and they were like, Hey, this is normal. This is nice. We can have a life. We like this, and now they're renegotiating their contracts, so we'll see whether they'll be able to get some more kind of humane working hours in that contract or not, But we'll talk to one guy who regularly works 14 hours a day and and works into Saturday morning and then turns around and does it all again Monday morning, So it's Yeah, it's a lot so they do get overtime and all that. But he said he'd gladly trade his overtime for shorter hours. Yeah, I don't blame him. Yeah. I mean, your life is a little bit your life and health absolute, more important in some instances, and then we will end the show talking about Metallica. Novita loves Metallica. I love Metallica. We all of the mentality right. So the black album, which is just called. It's not really called. The Black album is known as the Black album Because it's black. It turned 30 last month. Wow, wait nine. That was only 30 years ago. Only. I mean, I say that jokingly. Where is the 30? Years ago? It does the time go. Who knows? When you're banging your head just goes on and on anyway, so we'll talk about that. There's also a tribute album out that's coming out. I think this week 53 Song Tribute album Wow to the black album. You are Correct. It drops on September 10th. Yeah, it's such an amazing lineup to I'm looking at this record at ST Vincent Mac DeMarco, the Neptunes and Kamasi Washington. Were you there at the Hollywood Bowl? When Kamasi, right? It was when they brought on a couple members of Metallica. That was incredible. Yeah, it was. It was definitely amazing. And it's one of those records. They do a version of my friends of misery. Why don't we just take a listen to it now? Okay, so we do that. All right, Let's let's do it. "That he that he's playing in the bundesliga but he's he's going to do very well daryl decay. He needs a spot in this team even though he didn't get the start here in the in the us men's In the you know the final for the gold cup and he didn't even get subbed on. It was left for iasi's artists. They want i guess. Greg brought her gregg. Berhalter wanted someone with a little more experience in that number nine spot but i feel like the presence that darryl decay brings to that number nine spot and an inside the box. Something that not a single striker in the us. Men's national team pool can deliver. I honestly feel that way. And and i expect to be a part of the qualifying run in some fashion. I'd be surprised if he isn't but You just look at this whole team and you just have to be impressed. And i did talk very shortly about matt. Turner but you need to. It needs to be said. He had a very good tournament. He there were moments throughout the group stage where he didn't really have to do much. So you were wondering when you know when the moment comes kenny. Step up and the moment came in multiple situations in the final. I mean throughout the knockout rounds. He had to make some some diving saves and he did just that and i'm extremely extremely impressed. With the way he was able to step up you know be become a calming presence for that back line but he was certainly helped by the way miles robinson and james sandwiches able to be you know a very solid presence and an informed a very good partnership in that back line Reggie cannon was also there and he had some good moments i am. He didn't have the best tournament. But i'll be honest. He he still in in line to be a depth piece in that. Full back position. I'll be honest. I do think. I do still believe yet lindy andrea yet lynn What is it Who was his name Robinson and tony robinson and of course her genial desktops are going to be probably like the main pieces throughout that qualifying run but then reggie cannon. We'll be right there at number four a filling in for for whenever they need a rest. so I do believe in that. I also thought the additions of eric williamson into the and george bello as well into this. Final was was a bit shocking. They had the barely played throughout this. They had barely played throughout this tournament. Soul to get a start in the final. I thought was a bit of a question. Mark but in the end you saw that i mean williamson was was willing to get forward and and create a lot of pressure on that Mexican back language honestly. A lot of guys who would have been in. That position wouldn't have done. It's just a fact of the matter. You know you had a before. Who was in that. Who's in that spot before buso boost you'll have have a decent tournament but just didn't give you what you really needed in that midfield like he. He didn't provide a a lot of anything to be honest. I mean when it came to passing controlling the temple. He did that but when you want him to get forward he didn't really create much in that in those opportunities but of course you weren't going to get rid of Calinikos and sebastian let jet. They had a very solid partnership in the midfield. And and you could tell that they really trusted each other and had a very good Chemistry when it came to when one person had to go in defence the other took his spot and vice versa. It was it was just a very solid formation that they had there but in the end you west same being able to defeat mexico in this gold cup I it's a huge statement. I it really is when you consider how mexico has had you know the the. What is it the advantage in. Most you know for a while now and and a lot of people have been saying that. This is mexico's rivalry all the way. Usa are a notch below them. But i mean after what you've seen from this summer whether it was the nation's league final and now the gold cup final. You cannot deny that the usa are certainly making a case to be considered the best team in concacaf it. It's just an absolute fact being able to come into this tournament with your you know with a bunch of youngsters guys. That had not been battled tested. You know. didn't know what would it really felt like to play Competitive international football. They come in here and they play as a team and they grow together and gregg berhalter puts them in the right spot tote to win another trophy this summer. It's just a great thing to see. And it's only positive stuff for the men's national team moving forward especially with the the world cup coming up in a year. You just got to be impressed with what you've been able to see from them and you you wonder you know. Can this team combined with some of those other first teamers and really create something special and i truly believe they can and when you consider the age of these guys you know i want to say the average age of most of the guys in the pool is like twenty three maybe twenty four. You know because you got some veterans in their mixed in while for mexico. It's it's the opposite. They're they're more in like the high twenties. I wanna say it's maybe twenty eight. You know maybe maybe twenty seven but you know that that just means to me that with the usa already playing this well and then being that young it's just a matter of time before usa ultimately overtakes mexico permanently in the concacaf region. I it's just. It's just a matter of time to me. It just feels like it's inevitable at this point so that's going to wrap it up for this segment. Make sure you guys stick around. Because when i come back i'm gonna talk about some of the top transfer deals of the summer and what it means for those clubs moving forward right after this. Are you looking to get your college football. Beck's looking to get the latest news on your favorite schools team the diaz..

"And just kept chipping away. Kept chipping away until they finally got their goal and in this qatar semifinal Iasi's artists gordon the eighty six minute to give you know the. Us dramatic win. There and a lot of people were even though usa. Were certainly going to be considered favorites to at least make it to the final qatar. We're having an incredible tournament. I mean top their group Look very comfortable in their in their quarterfinal win against salvador. Even though they did only win three two you know they. They did what they had to do. Scored two goals early on in that game. Got penalty in the fifty fifth minute. We're up three nil on el salvador. So they're able to get a few goals back before the end of the the end of the game but it was too little too late for salvador so qatar. We're actually looking very solid and you would. You would not be surprised if peop- if they would've won this game because of how well they were playing but usa did not back down. They won and went up against mexico and the final who up until this point they had a little. They faltered a little bit in the beginning of a tournament. Getting a dragen stranded out into bego. But you know in the knockout rounds there. We're looking very solid defeating on us. Three nil Going up against canada on the semi final beating them two one and and looking pretty solid doing getting a legal from hector herrera. I mean that was a very you know back and forth game. I mean canada. Were certainly living up to the hype and really putting on a very very solid show against mexico team and you gotta be impressed with canada were able to do. But of course you're known was gonna pick against mexico especially since they were still going with a good amount of their eighteen players. I mean that needs to be set. A lot i i. I was seeing a lot of comments on social media saying you think this is mexico's eighteen and no this. Isn't there number one team. I'm not saying that every single player here plays for the you know the is going to be in the qualifiers. But you look at haystacks corona hector had atta arapahoe hector more all those guys are going to play some some solid minutes for the qualifiers and when you look at the. Us eighteen matt turner. You can maybe especially now after a very solid tournament you could see him as the number three goalkeeper because obviously he's not going to be over horvath and obviously not over Stephens either. So you know. There's obviously no way that matt turner is going to be. You know part that qualifying unless there's obviously which knock on wood. You never wanna see now. I'll tell you what the back line of james sands and miles robinson end specifically maoz robinson who had an incredible tournament. I will tell you certainly has a chance to make it into that starting lineup for the qualifying run after this. You know very solid run in the tournament. I mean you cannot deny the and then of course scoring the goal at the end of this back and forth affair between mexico. You know neither team you know really getting you know past the goalkeeper's they all had chances to score. No doubt about it but it wasn't until miles robinson who you know headed in a beautiful cross from kellyn cost into the back of the net to give them a usaa late once again. Another late win here in the one hundred seventeenth minute to get a winner in that fashion i. It's it just speaks a lot to this team and the culture that gregg berhalter is really setting up for this team for the future. It's really great to see. And i know a lot of people still don't believe that gregg berhalter is the coach of the future for this. Us men's national team. And i just don't understand why. I mean he's do making all the right decisions. He's winning these big games now. Obviously we still gotta wait for the qualifiers you know. And that's going to be the ultimate test playing in these tough conditions. These bad fields. It's going to be a you know a lot to ask from these players. Haven't really had to deal with that yet. Because you know as we know and what a lot of people love to mention. Is that a lot of these. Games are played if not most of these games are played in the us. So it's a lot of home games a lot of good fields you know. And that's not going to be the case most of the time throughout these qualifiers and they're just going to have to deal with it and it's going to. It's going to be interesting to see how these players know handle those conditions. 'cause as we know from what three years ago now they didn't handle it that well at trinidad and tobago. They were complaining about how the field was wet. It was just not a good field and It ultimately cost them that win and a chance to play in the world cup so I don't feel like that's going to be the case here. The culture is certainly being changed the the these players. Whether it's these kids that have been evaluated now are have been you know. They've been battled tested. You know we saw what the can do in the in. The nation's league final and that was huge. We saw a lot of character building moments throughout this summer. And you just wanna see more of it as we go through these qualifiers and it needs to be mentioned that these qualifiers are going to be extremely rough and it not only because of the conditions. Which i've already talked about but it's these three games sets. You're going to have what one week where you're going to have to play three games. That is not easy for these players. And that's why it was important for gregg berhalter to get a lot of these young guys in here to evaluate them and see which ones are ready to battle in these qualifiers. Because you're going to need them these are. These are going to be depth testing. You know three-game sets because you cannot expect yourself to play the same starting lineup through ultra games. I've is just not possible. So you know from from the guys that i looked at you know i always feel like you can rely on jet. A you know a nice veteran presence. You put off the bench I thought a costa had was very solid in that middle of the pitch showed that you know you have a guy now that can play that number six spot whenever tyler adams can't be there because you know that was a big issue. That was a big question and you weren't sure who was going to be able to take that spot when when tyler adams wasn't there carolina cost. I believe fills that role at least off the bench and can be of a spot starter. I've already talked to you. Guys about the about the defense with miles robinson james sands and even sam vines all three of those guys if you are viable pieces to play you know to to be depth pieces for this. Us men's national team. You know moving into the qualifiers. I honestly feel that now in attack it gets a little bit tougher. Like i feel like iasi's artis showed enough was very diligent with his runs. And and you know had a decent presence in the box arreola. I didn't see enough from him. You know he got into some some solid spaces almo scored in the final. If it wasn't for a spectacular save from that mexican goalkeeper as he was diving forward. Matthew hoppy i liked what he would. You know what he showed. But i still think he needs time to develop. Maybe another season in the bundesliga Which i think he's going to do extremely well in. I'm very very happy..

"Look at some of the characters then in the second call for we. We'll look at some of the other ideas emissions in the books affect carried says so Yes emeco who is. The book is is basically spencer fest fast and navigation sections by sabih as an addo as you know. You'll gloria lost investigating. What's happened to mother in the past then and then sections from multiple perspectives in the past knows to meet as a child. But let's let's talk about sumika that we may as an adult as the narrates. Tell us more about who she is. She's basically been bolts told ally about family background. Yes oh sumiko is seven when her mother is is magic and she's she's raised by tunnel grandfa- and In in japan there is a new sole custody so in the devolve Between father mother would would have been granted sole custody many passes to her grandfather so she's reading raised by him and he's a lawyer and he encourages house. Become one to you. Know he reads. He reads everything. There are many global literary influences but she becomes a lawyer and She grows up never truly nine. How mother died. She's told it was in a car crash and the mother was driving and and no one else was hot but then as she qualifies head grandfather's way she received a phone call from the presence of which mentioned mother and also man she's she's never huddle and a prison sentence that he subbing and she is basically compelled to go in search of the truth and she can't possibly kick around father's point because she's lied to her for so many years and he yoshi grandfather's is probably one of my favorite characters but he's also very very complicated he introduces this idea of. When is lying the best thing. What does it serve your needs. rather them you know the needs of the past and has being liked to an say raises all of the questions is actually questioned beloved paternal figure he just makes a series of wrong choices and some has to grapple with bees and she has to find out what happened to mother and she's got that was an affair and it's really a it's both a whodunit But also a wide on it and we talked about you know. We talked talk about those to be the japanese low but one of the things we get to say so a day story is how low in japan has changed as evolved over the yes very much so so when mom when her father would have been a specification posse in the traditional sense. He would being kept some away from court proceedings and the emphasis was very much on protecting the rights of the perpetrator of the crime. So he wouldn't have been told the date to the trial outcome of sentencing or anything like that and the only reason he does get hold of this information because he is a lawyer and is able to second navigate system and by some time this is change. Rapid vienna tremendous backlash against the original system. And now you can actually hire a lawyer to represent your if your family member victim. You can high someone to represent you in court. You can cross examine up to yourself if you wish but none of this is available to send me because the crime codes so many years ago so even though you know she should be able to access. The documents simply isn't able to g two. I'm how far the crime cut so that was a huge huge obstacle for main in research. Actually because the lawyers. I was working with told me categorically that the public prosecutor's office would never to any circumstances handed case file so i had to find lots of creative ways guests and create other emotional relationships that wouldn't have otherwise existed if not if not for that so it was very much an interactive process with the research. But eventually does get old of the the trial documents and she gets from that. I was fascinated by the soda. Irany where you talk in the book in the past where the difficult policy is you know is fake and these things are rules to protect the accused. They will that sort of rights. The accused has a patch lyle. And all of that and at the same time. You've also got this idea that to be a defense lawyer in japan is somewhat shameful. It's almost assume that if a person has got that fall to be on trial that they must be absolutely. There's a ninety nine point nine percent conviction rate so proscutors. What actually only bring a case on if christie show again to win it so this creates as you stab you as you very right. You say bias of possession you know if you'll charged Guilty I think what's really really interesting differences between a japanese orrin and Say you know western approaches. Is that the role of the defense lawyers. It's much less adversarial. They don't they're not really there to prove that client's innocence but morici negotiate the best sentence the best route to rehabilitation and also a lot of defense chinese. I wax That jobs have an incredibly psychological role in that day. We'll speak to the victims families. And they can offer edgy down which is a financial settlement almost to right the wrongs that have been done. And sometimes these can be accepted in exchange for more lenient sentence. But you know of that wax. Rx islam making things if not right and Helping old policies move forward so massive confession about winning. You know if you i. I have of course american courtroom dramas in mind davis n even british ones. So it's quite it's quite interesting that aspect of it. That was that's fascinating this talk about rena for a bit to make those mother iasi's daughter and the wife of assam lovely when we first meets her so as you said. She's a photographer okay. so yes. I was really really drawn to japanese to talk. Because of that era. And actually i. I was primarily drawn from by their essays And there's a really interesting contrast. "You mentioned something else that the City Council is kicking around as well. And that's adding another district. Another council person, the 11 1 plan. Where would this be? And why Well, it's because it's the strong mayor passes you would need. He even wouldn't be normal voting member of the council so you would have an even number of council members, then In in in the 10 10 1 system, so, adding an extra member would allow them to have and I have an odd number. But the funny thing is, is that they decided to do that as a separate ballot measure. So it is possible that the strong mayor does not pass and the extra Council member does pass. And then we're gonna have a council of 12. People would just be chaos. Hilarious. Attention. You know, 66 boats, their possible and I want to mention one more thing is this Proposal includes something called Democracy dollar right in under the radar, which is where they tell you. They take tax dollars $25 vouchers. They take tax dollars from all of the citizens, and then they give this $25 voucher to some citizens that they could donate to their politician of choice. Yes, The idea is that there's too much money in politics and basically that the poor people don't have can't don't have the ability to contribute to the candidates of their choice, and therefore we should take tax dollars, and it's It's not. It is tax dollars coming out of your Austin Energy Bill right away, So you're going to pay your often energy bill and then Austin Energy is going to turn around and funnel that horrible idea. "Be saved with organ donation. Up to 75 lives through tissue donation. College basketball tonight. We talked earlier about both producing Butler but in terms of right here, crossroads action within central Indiana, Marion And Taylor hooking up tonight on the call for I s see which, by the way, I should mention Iasi is where you can watch both myself and Derek Schultz on not only their website, but on Wednesday's at 6 P.m. on I see throughout the state. They are see Sports network Aquarian Schultz Ares. But tonight it was John Herrick, who was on the call for Marianne and Taylor and the 18th ranked nights. I believe I am I correct in saying John, get the better of Taylor in this one. Yes, That's right, Jake. He was a very physical game. Just kind of your typical crossroad league game that you see, you know, throughout the conference. Very tough, very physical, But both teams in this game shot it well. Both teams shot 57% from the field marry, and it was a game of runs Mary and took control of the game early. They led by nine Taylor goes on a big run towards the end of the half. See Joe came. You came into this game scoring 19 points a game he finished with 26. He rolled his ankle in the first meeting against Marion, but came back in that game later and played but only had 12 points. He wasn't 100%. He was 100%. Today, He did almost lead Taylor to a victory. But he came up a little bit short. Biggest reason Mary and won this game. They were down 71 to 67 with about seven minutes to go in the game, and then they went on a 14 to nothing. Run. The biggest difference. Woz. Marry INS coach Scott Hetty, who normally loves to play man to man defense, said. We can't do this anymore. We're going to switch it up and go back to a 23 zone, which they did against Great College on Wednesday, and it worked. They were able to beat grace. They switch back to his own defense in the second half of this game, and they were able to take CJ pain you out of the game. They were able to take several other good. Keep playmakers of Taylor out of the game is well. Joshua Hubbard. He had a big game the last time they played him, but that June defense just did not let him get going and marry and goes on a 14 overrun. They end up leading by about eight. They go on to win by four tailor made a late run that the end of the game, But by then it was too late and marry in Wednesday, a hard fought across Ridley game 82 to 78. It was a Christian team tonight because Taylor, of course, a Christian school, Obviously Mary in with theological background as well. But Christian Harvey 10 points, four assists, and then Kristen Stewart becomes Christian Stewart, I should say becomes The 37th player and marry in history with 1000. Career points. Jon Herrick was on the call for Iasi. John. I'm curious for those that have not watched Marianne or Taylor or Crossroads basketball action on Iasi when you're calling these games The level of play. You know, it's really good basketball, and you obviously see a lot of players that are from the Midwest. A lot of Indiana high school products that are playing, but for those that are used to watching The Indiana's the produce, and you know the length and the size that comes with that. How does it differ within the crossroads in terms of the brand and the style of basketball that's being played? I mean, I would say you're definitely going to see a little bit of a downgrade in athleticism. It's not going to quite be to the level of you know, the produce and the I used, but, um, you know the A. Is this a great It's a great place to play two great lead to play. And if you're not Quite to that level. You're not quite it. That'd be one level yet, but you can play. You can play there and you can. Also if you're a great student, get a good chunk of your scholarship paid for so it's a great Other option. I think a lot of you know, I've worked with a lot of colored guys throughout the season, one of them today Mike brought, including two runs Indiana's All escape program. And they all say the same thing and take a listen. If you can't get into a D one school considered going in a I A because you have other options there and you can and you can still show off your athleticism. Zah really on the Crossroads League is one of the absolute toughest leads to play in in the because every team Is very good. There's several teams in it that are ranked ST Francis has been ranked in the top 25 Marion's ranked 18th and Indiana West Land who has a great chance to win the entire thing this year. Because they're number one, they beat Mary and twice the benches because in the end of wrestling is just so, so good this year. Yeah, it might not be quite the level that you used to sitting with, like I you are produced, but It's very competitive. And whenever you see a conference game, we're going to see some exciting basketball is going to come down to the wire like it did today. John Herrick. I see Sports network on the call tonight again marry in defeating Taylor in Crossroads Action. John always appreciated and will continue watching the games and I see all right. Thanks a lot, Jake. Appreciate. Appreciate it. John Herrick joining us again. I see Sports network Mary and getting the win tonight over Taylor. I would the tailor basketball camp and for what it's worth and 1983. I was first team. All Camp and Taylor basketball camp. That's pretty much the extension of my basketball are the cap on my basketball prowess. Um, but I was pretty proud of myself. Still have the blue ribbon actually. Still have a blue ribbon. Let's go one other, Let's squeeze one of the one in from W. K. L. O North Harrison tonight and Madison. David Deaton was on the call and joins us Now, David, you have to call North Harrison and Madison. Give us the rundown. Well, Jake the Cougars able to get the win tonight after a slow start a 12 to 9 lead for Madison at the end of the first quarter, where North Harrison only shot two out of 13 in the quarter. Second quarter, the Cougars come back. They were seven out of 10. They rallied to take a 26 25 lead at halftime and end of the second half. They really clamp down defensively against the Madison team that came in averaging 70 points per game. They hold Madison to 44 on the night, including eight of 25 in the second half, and Langdon Hatton for North Harrison, a kid to look out for speaking in college basketball for Division one ranks. He's a recruit to the College of William and Mary. And he had 33 points tonight for North Harrison, along with 18 rebounds, the lead North Harrison. They shoot the ball pretty well in the second half after the slow start, and they outscore Madison in the second half 35 to 19. Take up a nice home win tonight. They celebrated senior night a little early tonight. Colin Higdon is the other senior on the basketball team as well. So both of those guys were recognized along with the team manager and some other people and The North Harrison gets a big win tonight. They've won four straight now in 10 of their last 11 after beating a team that they could see later on and sectional 30 in the postseason. Come March. David didn't W k l O joins us here on Never Indiana. David. Be honest. When you're talking about William and Mary, Have you ever called him building Mary? I've done that before Dylan married. Do you ever call him that? No, I have never done that before. But that's an interesting thought. There's Yeah. Do you know their nickname? Don't think they've changed it. Have they changed from the tribe? They were the tribal they still the tribe. Yes, they are still the tribe. Last I checked and out there in Virginia. See if David I'm telling you, You should start referring to them as just the Bill tribe. I mean, that kind of leaves Marriott, though We don't want to exclude Mary, right? That's right. I mean, she is in the title. After all, she's got naming rights. Hey, David, you had mentioned the fact that North Harrison got off to a slow start before their 17 point win over Madison that was attributed to just simply You know the ball not going in form or was that credit to Madison's early defense before North Harrison made the offensive adjustments? I'd say a little bit of both Madison really challenged North Harrison on the inside, and the Cubs don't have a lot of height on their team. There's all this player in the rotation tonight with 6/4. Jackson Falcon Barry, who's a junior. And having that 16. He could take over games sometimes, but he was missing shots that he normally made me. They were only two out of 13. And there were times where they had good opportunities with guys around them. They were just kind of standing there, but When they did contest North Harrison struggled a little bit and overall, though they made some good adjustments. They started getting the shots to go down in the second quarter, and when you get those shots to go down, it certainly gives them a lot of confidence. And that's what happened tonight really just kind of picked up where they left off a little sluggish against West Washington last night, and that 55 to 40 win, especially early on and And they picked it up after the first quarter last night and really kind of a similar story.

"iasi" Discussed on Bloomberg Radio New York

"Bloomberg Markets with Paul Sweeney and Bunny Quinn on Bloomberg Radio wear still waiting Comments from President Trump from Washington, D. C. We will bring them to you when he begins to speak. Another fascinating story We've been following for the last several days as the New York Stock Exchange on its dealings with some of these Chinese telecom companies. And then why is he surprised Markets again Today it's reverting to its original plan to delist shares of three Chinese companies. For more we bring in fans reporter Lenin knew in in in New York, Lenin I've been getting whipsawed like I'm sure many investors have by the New York Stock Exchange, and it's listing delisting of these Chinese companies. What's the latest? Of latest Paul, which is something that we were reporting on sources yesterday is that and why is he will go ahead with the listing three Chinese companies now what it has done. It's gotten specific guidance from the Treasury Department that these companies in the securities are in scope, and so it's decided to proceed again with listening. Right. So you know, you sort of answer my next question. To certain extent, Treasury Secretary Steven Religion calling on them Iasi President Stacy, calling him to say he opposed the shock announcement Grant the company's a reprieve. The Hamas supose explain to the side of how much of the allowed to I think there's a lot of politics already embedded in that question, Body and this is a highly highly political story here. So obviously we can't look at this without looking at the context of the U. S. And China Trade tensions and Trade war. That work in constant right now, And so, obviously, you know, a U. S stock exchange, deciding to delist Securities of Chinese companies is highly political, highly contentious. Obviously, it was criticized in China. Those companies are kind of watching the situation closely. And also it's being watched very closely by the U. S business community as well. Many U. S firms, including the biggest U. S. Banks are trying to expand in China. And so you know, this kind of puts things in a sort of contentious Andre, tense environment. So I kind of was surprised. I guess that was most surprising was yesterday's events that were denounced by the N Y C to suspend the delisting if you will, the day kind of go rogue there yesterday. It's very unclear. Ah, lot of our sources are still scratching their heads. They're a lot of questions about what happened behind the scenes here, Paul So unfortunately, I can't answer that question to directly. But what I could say is that Um, you know, it sounds like this was messy on both sides. It sounds like it was messy in terms of how how it was handled and decided within government and also how it was rolled out by N Y C obviously. U. S companies don't tend to, you know, take action reverse and then reverse again on so obviously there's there's gonna be some soul searching about what what exactly happened here, so it's pretty messy, and we're still trying to figure out exactly what went wrong. Have you been watching the market today? Lenin are eight ers reacting. Yeah, well, eight years have reacted throughout this whole process. They kind of went went, you know, fell when the elections were announced, and then went back up when they were pulled back. And so I think it's a bit of a roller coaster. But what's key here is that it looks like these securities are, you know, in scope of the executive order, and it means that investors do you have to get rid of them by next week. So what's the you know, speaking to some observers here more from Geo political perspective is maybe the concern that Perhaps China will retaliate. Against the U. S. And maybe some U s companies. Is that a realistic concern? The folks you talked to Definitely a realistic concern. For sure on big end either Settle. This is a nuanced situation policy. Oh, it's not as if you know we're hearing about any kind of tit for tat threats. But you know, us business community does want to have a good relationship with China. And so the escalating trade war um, you know, particularly in the financial community is not looked upon well. Here. So I do think whether you know us cos they're talking to their Chinese base or talking to their Chinese contents or whether they're just anticipating. You know, negative blowback. I think that's a very real concern. What does the financial community tell you about how much work will need to be done by a Biden administration to improve the relationship and whether they feel like that's what the Biden administration will even try to do? Well, I think first of all, they want to sift through the issues that are in front of them right now, With his help Tol, you know, help the trading of the security that are affected by this executive order. On Ben, you know, see what happens in the next couple of weeks as the Trump administration leaves, whether there any other trade related issues that could come up in the next couple of weeks, obviously very unpredictable time. On then going forward. Yes, I think the business community is very, very interested in trying to rebuild and repair relationships with China. Um and it's you know, it's not exactly clear how the Biden administration will react to this, but there is obviously a lot of legislative, um sort of hawkishness around China as well. So it's not just about the administration. It's also about what's happening in Congress. All right, so Leon's assuming we don't get any new wrinkles in the story, and that's a big assumption. I guess. What is the expected timing here? If I own the stocks? I guess I have to sell them in one go. I have to sell them and what's the timing there? So the industry is really looking at Monday as being the key date because that's when you are not allowed to trade the securities anymore either buy or sell kind of like actively, you know, transact them. So that means all of the indexes, for instance, are going to have to serve remove these securities, and the exchange is gonna have to remove them. And so there are a lot of kind of follow on effect. If you have a kind of passive holding in your portfolio that has to be Arrested by November, But you know everyone else in the markets the real kind of day today. People are looking at Monday as the real drop dead date. Lowland. Why three? Telecommunications companies. In particular, there are plenty of other Chinese companies listed. Will they be next door is the impetus specifically telecoms? Well, I think one of the things that the industry is kind of sighing with relief today is that it got specific guidance from the Treasury as to which entities were sort of viewed as being linked to the Chinese military. So that's that's the move right? That originates with The executive order and originates with the administration. So you know, One of the things that the industry has been clamoring for, is clarity around which security's not just which kind of over overarching companies but also which the city areas which Pickers sector and they were looking for details on so that that is one question that has been at least put to rest today. In terms of you know which companies were selected again. That's to do with the links to the Chinese government and its military. So That was the call by the administration. Island. And just finally, I think about some other big Chinese companies listed here. You know, the Ali Baba is of the world that JD's dot com these air, huge companies as well. One of the risk. Well, I think there has been a ratcheting up of executive orders in recent days. And obviously the outgoing administration is, you know, making taking action on China. We will see whether that is continued extended once the new administration comes in or not, but certainly you know, in the last couple of weeks of the Trump administration, we are seeing a ratcheting up of sort of Ah. Tensions with China on multiple fronts. Lot on Thank you so much for jumping on the phone there her wonderful stories day and we'll see reverses again with fabulous China teleconference. She's written a few of those in the last few days, but she has not got confused. Donna Newman, covering stocks and all sorts of stories and finance reporter more broadly for us at Bloomberg.
