"Prior to the last couple of years, Emily was solely a live poker player, but because of reasons that I hope are obvious to you in this day and age, was forced to make the transition to online poker. Despite some hiccups early on, Emily ever the tenacious and strong will competitor has been steadily leveling up her game by putting in the necessary blood, sweat and tears, while also leveraging the wisdom, provided to her by past CPG guests, univet Bros and hosts of the chip raised podcast, Dara o'kearney, David lappin, and Ian Simpson. So without any further ado, sit back, strap in and get ready to learn more about up and comer Emily, risk it for biscuit, glances, poker origin story, right here on chasing broker dreams. Good morning for me. And afternoon for you, Emily. How are you doing? Welcome to the podcast. Thank you very much for having me, but yeah, and on it. First, as a podcast I've been on so I hope I do all right. I think you'll be fine. I think you'll be fine. You know, the first question that I tend to ask on the show is about your story. You know, where you're coming from, what led you into the world of poker. I know this is a social faux pas, but how old you are so that we could set the timeline for when you enter poker? I know, I know we're starting off. When I tell no. So I'm 33 on my cod seriously. I know it looks 55, but believe it or not, this drink. So yeah, when did I start my pickup? My club is a weird story actually. So I think I think I was kind of a lord to the prospect of playing something in and winning something back. I think I got from my granddad from when I was probably about 6. And please don't put this down to like bad parenthood or grandparent, but he had a slot machine. In his house and I think I was quite a law by all the flashing lights and things like that, but I felt that I could put one in, but then I could.

I think poker isn't the the biggest goal is my family now. I've just started a fifty dollar. A wife is the crux of my life. Jim go well ties into my family. My family grew succeeding as well polka volume and study. That's all comes down to think well said and not going to run foul of good hearts law by making process oriented goals of volume and study. Right okay here. Here's a good hearts law in action right over the course of my poker career. I'm going to retire with the most amount of bracelets possible must amount of waso bracelets. What does that mean. It means that now you're playing an obscure events with seventeen people aiming to win a bracelet thinking that like that's the thing that will defy poker player or human being right like that's just once you once you understand here good hearts law you. Just see it everywhere. He will see the world differently right. I'm i've never heard of it before. I've seen examples. I guess and realize that you know the like the colbrad example you had. It was really good example. Yeah i mean. Don't we wrong a bracelet. But yeah you're right about. That isn't a good goal. Econ say i want to win one hundred thousand bucks this year rybakov disagree or you might just put in exactly enough volume to win one hundred thousand like based on your way right like you cap you cap yourself. It's going back to the politicians to good hearts laws. All over the place there because like you said it's short term gain get elected. That's the goal. The goal is to improve things get elected so you just do all short-term shit that enables you to get elected which does it really progress us. You tweet the pride flag this month. Are you do the little things. That'll that'll get someone to take your name in the bucks for his Something fundamental to help society. That's what politician should be doing. Right and here in america we. We just voted to not investigate the storming of the capital on january sixth. Because one party felt that it would hurt their chances of getting reelected down the road. And you just got to ask yourself you know. Is that worth it like. What what are we doing like this. Like what are we doing here. It just doesn't matter. What side of the political spectrum. You're wrong things happening. The needs to be science to be investigated. Yeah do the right thing have integrity and do the right thing. It's anyway right all right. So we'll wrap up and do you have any other projects you're working on or near to your heart. My my daughter is the biggest. Maybe even the only projects making a puppy healthy intelligence sociable. The biggest it's going to be if you interview megan that he has signed up on. "Best answer to the billboard question out of one hundred something guests so while all the answer Kindnesses yeah it's just it's good for humanity. it's good for everyone. it creates connection in like ultimately. I think we're all here on the earth four connection anyway and so in a hostile situation and those kinds do something. Even if you're dug in to something that you fundamentally believed to be correct you could still be kind to another human being and that highness will go way farther than any sort of nagging any sort of bashing any sort of public attempts at shaming. Kindness is so it's just such a powerful force and it's something like you know you see on twitter all the time of like i believe something and then boom that person just gets smashed over the face just over and over again. "I it's just it's part of you but it's not all of you like i think that like that's the thing that like religion or politics and government wants you to believe that it is all of you because then you know it's good for them but poker makes it so that you have a shared identity with people across different beliefs different political affiliations. And you see yourself as a poker player somebody that loves this game and how you're not. You're not as threatened by people who believe differently because you still have that thing in common. That's a reflection you love this. Yeah exactly and that's like a just a gift to put that poker and these games that we play very passionately as human beings give you is like you know it's a different piece of your identity and it breeds were acceptance of you know different human beings who believe different things and that's great because there are but how many billion of us the seven billion on the planet many many. Yeah and if there was a lot more acceptance than to be a lot of a happier place so yes bringing that bringing that slice of this broad spectrum Together to be more accepting each other is huge is bright massive and i think that like yeah. It's it's a gift to humanity one of the one of the many lessons and wisdom pieces of wisdom. We can learn from this game that like it gets its hooks into you and just doesn't really let go all right so we'll we'll go to lightning round here in. Just skip all the other silly questions. "It's a lot better constructing something via south comparing it to other people's onces that is where you're gonna get solid lending you can watch a video and watch and someone on twitch call us rebounded seven eight suit then call three. That's seven hundred eighty south. It's not going to be quite enough because there's times when he should times when you shouldn't one beautiful thing about which is that. Well it's really interactive you can say hey steps you call the three but seven logical And then jimmy steps being a fantastic stream. I will say hey. I did it because the debt. And then that's how you can get the most out of learning. That's how you get the most out of the resources interacting with them. It's just watching passively. You've got to delve in And do something with the knowledge. You'll find mean that's sort of the issue is like playing explained videos is. There are a lot of a lot of data points i. I did a coaching session. A guy did a coaching session with me. And was showing me was testing a new methodology. Basically on me and we analyzed one single hand for an hour and it was his words. breaking apart the egg at every single note. So he asked what were you what. What data points were you considering here and it was just like a long list that i made at every single decision point and at the end of it there was something like a hundred different data points that i was considering. This one hand that was played on Zone or zoom poker by the way so like fifteen seconds to act for every single so like we have all these thoughts out on paper and then we were like okay. So what surpri what. Which one must you have prioritize here in order to make the decision that you did and you know when you go through an exercise like that you learn. There's a lot of things that you're thinking that don't go through the filter of verbal ization. Like you just can't say everything because it's too much right like it's just two seconds. Yeah well yeah like a but even if you have a minute like in a plane explained you can't verbalize every single thing that you're thinking about prioritizing in game and so because of that disconnect like you said you know somebody sees a player flat with seven eight suited and they're like oh i'm just gonna flat three bats with seven eight suited. But you don't see all the data points that they were looking at and prioritizing so you're not getting the full picture as to why exactly they flat in that specific situation with seven eight suited which is misleading right. It's like you don't want to do monkey see monkey do because then you know monkey poops all over you. It's an interesting phenomenon because copycats it's always been. There's always been trends in program like opening. Two three x the bind was thing. An opening for two and a half extra thing opens imprint to xs thing whenever recreational see a professional do something they'll copies and work okay but it will not work on tactically because they will be applying brigger asli. Well they don't see the game you know like they don't see the full picture of the game. They're just too zoomed in of like. I'm doing this. One thing zoomed in without zooming out and trying to picture like the old game tree and everything that's in play because it's almost like a a watch or clock right like you see it telling time but if you if you.

"Host this community is very fulfilling and not through keeping me in the game by lodge dot games. I'm in. I'm doing pretty well so violences who'd right now a healthy trinity in twenty twenty one and nineteen even so. Yeah i think. I think p- rich being what it is is what's kept me angry for. It's not just the but also for the community as well that i'm in and what is that. How do you as a scientific person. How do you quantify like. Am i good enough to still keep playing poker. I mean is it. Just like a passing thought. Do you ever like dot dig deep as like. Is this sustainable. Am i do. I really have an edge. We'll be able to maintain my edge over a long period of time whereas it just like a passing fear. And you're like you just recover pretty quickly. Wouldn't say it's passing because it's something i think about a lot. Because of the game games constantly changing constantly getting the solve us constantly getting better going to the game very difficult for everyone and even then regulations could change. It could make the game on sustainable not states right any change in regulations bound to be positive. Where indeed so yeah. I've always got in mind that at one day. I might need to do something else you know. One day. i'll be wanting to the cards away and do something else that isn't for awhile. Thankfully england's regulations around gambling Tightening things on gambling and they shouldn't away the some regulations have been very good and Fixed outspending terminal as of any any gambling machine. They were making a lot of money in the loop. Maga's quite a while because there was no real max bet on them. The maximum was huge. That's been regulated. And that's really good because those things were dangerous for people with mental health problems on gambling problems. They had no limit on how quickly how much they lose. Some regulations very very good and yet begins alive and well the minute. So i'm happy to keep going. I'm always continuous testing. Because the landscape those keep changing projects up to keep saying and keep working hard. That's the thing you gotta keep up with everyone. You just gotta keep studying otherwise fall behind once you fall behind nation recession. Uganda say okay. I'm making money now. I'm good enough if you stagnate robots recession because everyone else is gonna study. Take you so tell me what does study in growth look like in your regular routine legal under a good studying in general because positive study isn't very helpful. There's lots of resources out if you can. You know find spray videos regarding pocock's now you get great about you and how to use. What is your specific process. Look like finding leaks and building ranges myself to counter them. How do you find you find leaky. Can you send like Track to belden all. You can just notice in spots in game. You think you'll losing money. Are you find something often finding someone making a move. That's irritating you. It's because well you don't have the answer to it and then construct your ages to the bottle. Let those someone's three betting you too much. You need to know what hunts what wants to fall back with one hundred two fold now. It's it's good looking up and finding someone else's constructed that isn't that's pretty it if you construct the rangers yourself not lot more active ags. Obviously when i was a teacher. I mean like a lone wolf out there just on this journey on your own like there's so much value to be gained by just being a part of a community even even if you're not like actively learning poker just having a support system like it goes bad because shit will go bad in this and i guess we haven't really talked about shit going bad but again shit will go bad so i assume it went bad after two thousand three at some point. Could you tell me about You know a pointer career where the struggle was real. Yeah i think when. I was just playing lives beside from being not very good at the time around with someone who's related didn't have full equity against i would run into a roadblock call broke equals yeah knock it fold equity was important back then so bats and the variants of live. Men's that yeah. I think that was a couple of years where it was not going well and you know playing live. You've got to be playing pretty big to cover. The expenses so any swing in avocado regard is pretty big. I think two thousand eighteen fifty pretty harsh from the biographical remember correctly and lee have any fear or thoughts about going back to teaching after like two bedroom dark ears every day every day since i've since i accepted it thought about what. What does that conversation look like. Like in your head my head. Yeah i'm i good enough. Is the game gonna stay for long enough as everyone else going to get better than they do. A lookouts played live Primarily for the first is five years something like that and then segue mourned are online. So i guess. I'm a little unusual in that redoubt most people. It's the other way round depend on him to lie. I same as you. I started life learning your teacher regression progression poker. While i was i was the degree was biotechnology. So science very evidence based semi progression boca was very much modeled on that. So i i like evidence robust stuff to backup my ideas not replies really well to poker because if someone says oh you should check. Raise this sort of hand in this situation. I want evidence to see about works. And i want to gather that evidence that i wanna analyze it stuff like about sobbing. Not so the mindset drilled into me my degree was reading conducive to michael gregory and. That's yeah that that's how i live my life and how i structure training and all my courses. They're all built on mask data analysis of like. Let's you think this is good. Let's see if we can prove whether or not it's good. And i think that like either on free if you find the answer that you know it doesn't work great. We've blunt we do something else as well and if we learned that it works then cool like we found. We found a way to add a little bit of easy to our pockets. So what did that evidence based study and growth. Look like over the course of five or six years because despite i soon despite being familiar with boker you weren't immersed in poker and so like when you won the irish open.
