What's in the $2 trillion stimulus package?

"So what exactly is in the corona virus stimulus package the the release bill was gonna send some direct payments to taxpayers apparently lawmakers have agreed to provide twelve hundred Bucks in direct payments to taxpayers with incomes up to twelve seventy five thousand dollars per year and then it will phase out all together for people earning ninety nine thousand dollars a year or more or less last year well last I checked those people have expenses too and they're out of work some wondering why exactly were means testing this thing like seriously if you are a hundred thousand dollars last year which by the way is not a ton of money in LA or New York it's a ton of money in the middle of the country a hundred thousand dollars in LA or New York a hundred thousand dollars is really not like tons of money it isn't okay that's like upper middle class in LA and New York it is certainly not top one percent in LA or New York mean rents out here normally in LA for aid let's say I but let's say a two bedroom apartment in like Sherman oaks right would be probably two thousand dollars a month is that is that not right like a decent two bedroom apartment and asking call news producer leasing three thousand maybe three thousand months or twelve hundred Bucks is not exactly going to do it right that that that that that's certainly not enough for people and then not only is it not enough for people to phase it out at ninety nine thousand dollars a year is totally insane okay the it would also give families an additional five hundred Bucks per child which again in gonna do it unemployment benefits are gonna grow substantially go to many more Americans this is already in the original bill the original bill out for three months of unemployment Democrats are trying to extend it to four Democrats would love to extend it forever because they wanna make sure that everyone gets paid no matter how on willing they are to work are you a member of the IOC said this in her green new deal proposal that people should be paid whether they were unwilling or unable to work just lumped in unwilling to work like okay I don't feel like going to work today pay me anyway now again well this is going on it is perfectly appropriate to provide people compensation for the salaries they are being denied by the government but once this thing ends we're gonna have to transition over to an economy where people actually are encouraged to get back to work and that means not incentivizing people to stay home from work and that means that this can't last for six months by the way if if we're still paying people to stay home from work at their initial salary rates in six months the economy is toast basically it was just recognize that at this point small businesses will receive emergency loans but only if they keep their workers so the federally guaranteed loans available community banks will only be available to small businesses the pledge not to lay off their workers the problem of course is that immediately all those workers will be laid off when the crisis ends because the market's not gonna be there the long lasting effects of destroying markets is going to be that takes a little while for those markets to recover which means that companies are not able to prepare for the future what you really need is generous unemployment compensation which is in the bill any loans available to businesses to act like businesses and what they need to do to prepare for the future so that when this economy does kick back in and they're ready to hire up again as opposed to firing people distressed companies can receive government bailouts but with strings attached if you are a distressed company then the then you may have to take the government owning stock in your company Boeing is artist I'm not doing that is it will just lay everybody off on your own stock in a company we're not going to let the government run a company so if you want to if you want to we just won't take the long would rather go bankrupt and let the government run a company by the way I feel exactly the same way if the provision for daily wire work that we have to take a loan from the government in order to move forward but the government now gets to sit on the board of the daily wire forget about it seriously forget about defeats the purpose of our company Democrats also secured a provision ensuring it from family businesses can't receive loan money through the fund which which is absurd I'm sorry it's an absurdity it is ridiculous the people who work for the trump organization are still human beings if you work for the trump hotels you still have a job by the fact you're gonna lose your job in the trump name is on the hotel that's not really a reason why that why the trump hotel should be treated the same as a Marriott or Hilton obviously companies that receive money also cannot engage in stock buybacks for additional year after receiving government assistance which of course means that the stock market is gonna remain low because what do you think companies do when they feel they're undervalued they buy back their stock from the outstanding from outstanding stockholders and then they re sell the stock in order to raise money for future capital raises right that's why you buy back their stock so there's some good stuff in here there's some bad stuff here but bottom line this is there is nothing passed today meanwhile the New York times wanting son of monies we're gonna pass the biggest pending bill in the history of a planet earth bar none and son of money Jim Tankersley says if you wanna shut down our economy to fight a pandemic without driving millions of people and businesses into bankruptcy you need the government to cut some tracks across AmerisourceBergen leader struck early Wednesday morning we'll get a lot of checks in the mail those who only a few months of financial pain well right that's that's sort of what we're designed to do I mean we can't do this forever what do you think the money comes from there's a reason that the interest rates on on short term bonds and it has not dropped below zero I mean the fact is that over time those interest rates can rise again because the demand is going to fall off fairly intensely in fairly quickly Mohammed al Arian from Ali ons has a piece over at Bloomberg today talk about what needs to happen he says before the feds more laser focused emergency measures March seventeenth and congressional progress on the two trillion dollar stimulus package this week economy and markets were heading rapidly into a self feeding a vicious cycle of accelerated economic and financial de leveraging with that with that can threaten the nineteen thirties like economic depression meaning that banks should start to call in their loans it would be very difficult to get alone emergency monetary and fiscal policies enacted circuit breakers but the bottom line is that D. D. only thing that's going to alleviate this thing is going to be the alleviation of the crown of iris disaster itself all are into it Mohammed el Erian says the higher quality segments of the bond market are turning away from the illiquidity path that leads to market failures which is good emergency cash handouts and loans white house in Congress are set to authorize have the potential to enhance the ability for companies to avoid immediate layoffs and for households to meet urgent needs but in the long term we're going to need to see some alleviation of the underlying crisis right this can't just continue indefinitely meanwhile Chuck Schumer is is it's very where there's a big disconnect between Chuck Schumer the senator from New York and policies of Lowe's is we say is holding this thing up Chuck Schumer was spending the day talking about how big help is on the way this thing is inevitable were moving toward conclusion here it was Chuck Schumer saying big help is on the way we're we're gonna get this thing done to the American people we say big help quick help is on the way

Japan postpones 2020 Summer Olympics to 2021

"But with the children thanks the games I have to be rescheduled based on everything that's going on because if nobody wants to go and compete in and nobody wants a gold watch then Tokyo is going to really you know be tanked financially from this so prime minister Shinzo Ave spoke to the head of the IOC and proposed the delay it's going to be rescheduled beyond twenty twenty but not later than summer twenty twenty one now the Olympics have never been to lead up before I thought there was a delay one of the Olympics and forget I thought it was it had to be delayed into October of one year the summer Olympics once I think was in the sixties had to be delayed to October forget why but they were canceled back in nineteen sixteen nineteen forty and nineteen forty four I'm C. nineteen forty nineteen forty four was during divorce will work till so the gains have to be rescheduled to a day beyond twenty twenty but not later than summer twenty twenty one accord the international Olympic committee I guess that we they write the rules as they go originally the rules work you will have to deal with in twenty twenty and they realize well then it one of the summer Olympics if we have to wait till after the summers of the cold so Tokyo governor Yuriko Cole Leakey said vads the name of the delayed Olympics will still be Tokyo twenty twenty well because that's what all the gear and all the you know swag and everything says so it's not going to be called the twenty twenty one I think it's really really important for Olympic staff even number years even numbers on there so he made a comment to reporters or she'd made the comments are part of the vision part minister Shinzo abi spoke to the head of the national of the committee let me see here IOC president Thomas Bach has agreed one hundred percent of the falls from a proposal and then said the decision was about protecting human life fox said the new dates for the new games to be postponed during peace time would be decided by an IOC panel overseeing the gains in Tokyo organizers yeah it's very expensive we've talked about how cities take a big hit whenever they do Olympics because Olympics village the stadiums it's really hard to get your money back Atlanta has a really nice Olympic area it it it has like you know Olympic village and you know you get to see it except I just don't know how much money they make off of that but the average you know state country city whatever it doesn't seem to do well post Olympics from what we understand it's an absolute mess when you have all these consumers come and spend money and then you know they leave so what do not have an Olympics after spending all that money to prepare and it takes years to prepare that alone can just crash Japan's economy without even talking about you know the Olympics or the court of ours so when they see the current pandemic has already helped push Japan towards recession the GDP contracted one point eight percent in the October December quarter an economist at research firm Fitch on Monday revises twenty twenty growth forecast for Japan to negative one point one percent from negative point to and he said the postponement will worsen it significantly and impact their GDP the three point five point eight percentage points hence the postponement would badly affect Japanese consumer confidence they do not know what it would do to the two hundred forty billion yen if Japan has issues then we have issues obviously because we're all you know in an economy together Tokyo twenty twenty organizers declined to say how many foreign visitors expect to visit Japan specifically to watch this one action I remember they still have aftermath of Fukushima not so much a literal radiation aftermath but you don't have a lot of people very excited to you know also go to an area that had you know the tsunami and then you know the nuclear fallout from that so my guess is even if the Tokyo Olympics are postponed I don't believe that it's going to still be as much of a economic you know windfall as people

Tokyo Olympics postponed until 2021 due to coronavirus

"The Olympics has finally been postponed the IOC and Tokyo organizers have agreed to delay the games for a year although they insist it is not a cancellation also the coronavirus sees India heading into a locked down for the next three weeks let's have the very latest now from our chief north Asia correspondent even angle and see the start with the Olympics they seem to be a no choice decision I guess for the IOC in Japan growing momentum and calls from around the world that the games they just would not be appropriate I just four months down the road from now from yesterday would be four months ago and to this July twenty fourth opening ceremonies it just wouldn't be right given the death toll given the escalating number of cases around the world there are more than fifty four thousand cases now in the United States and by most epidemiologists estimates they have not reached a peak yet we all know the situation in Italy of course in other areas of Europe and then the emerging areas of of the the Asia which I'm to talk about in just a second India weather's Thailand Singapore they're escalating number of new cases every single day so to hold the games at this time or to even have any semblance of normalcy that it's going to go ahead in four months was just not appropriate and that they're going to keep it as the Tokyo twenty twenty game in name but it'll be delayed by at least a year most likely next summer the economic impact that's the big question Goldman Sachs earlier this month said if it was canceled it could have direct and indirect consequences upwards of sixty billion dollars this is a sunk cost for the Tokyo municipal government as well as the IOC twenty six billion dollars spent by the local municipality to build out all the facilities but to delay it by a year Goldman now saying the economic impact could be about six billion dollars I think it's still a little bit too early but it's also going to take a hit on some of those Olympic sponsorship deals in a Toyota for one has spent one point eight billion dollars for a ten year agreement to sponsor the Olympics and I guess somewhat prophetically their slogan their tagline for the games was start your impossible well it's gonna be a year later to start that impossible

"The IOC telling USA today the games will be postponed until twenty twenty one now he's a member of the IOC from Canada but wasn't making an IOC announcement yeah I am C. did respond quote it's the right of every IOC member to interpret the decision of the IOC executive board which was announced on Sunday the IOC saying on Sunday it'll take the next four weeks to determine its path for the Olympics in Tokyo Dick pound of course no stranger to headline making comments and yes he made another on Monday he's from Canada even as old national Olympic committee is taking his comments with a grain of salt team Canada's chief of mission is Marnie McBean or used to Japan's making announcements that are a bit I'm not going to help either but she remains there we will wait till the IOC executive comes in and say that officially but without question that's what we're hoping for Canada on Sunday announcing they will not be sending athletes if there are Olympics held in the summer of twenty twenty regardless of whether to July or later and now the US is officially on board with that line of thinking as well saying postponement seems to be the way to go ESPN's Jeremy Schaap our group what he told Christine Brennan of USA today today is what's going to happen the Olympics are going to be postponed but the IOC estate now said they're going to wait several weeks to make it official decision to make an official announcement but there's only one direction this could possibly be heading it seems a lot better the prime minister of Japan he said it's going to be postponed the president of the Tokyo Olympic organizing committee has said it's going to be postponed so what Dick pound doesn't speak for the IOC what he's saying at this point is simply a foregone conclusion but what's taking place right now are complicated legal and financial discussions because if they just cancel the games out right it leaves the IOC and organizing committee opened two lawsuits possibly their financial replications these are billion dollar advances you know multi multi billion dollar advance and so there are ways in which they would be legally exposed if they don't dot all the I's and cross all the teas before they actually announce a decision but you know as well as I do and this is only going to end up one way at least to postpone many if not probably less likely cancellation to get into the thirty second Olympia yeah I mean you always offer such a great perspective on Olympic history and when you heard the word cancellation immediately one thinks of the Jimmy Carter boycott of the Moscow games in nineteen eighty and this generation of American athletes that missed out on that once in a lifetime opportunity obviously this is a different situation it affects athletes the world over how's the IOC approach cancellations and postponements in the past well I will look into you know there have been three cations on which the games of actually being canceled and that was nineteen sixteen nineteen forty nineteen forty four because of the first and the second world wars nothing else has stopped the game's not the boycotts in nineteen seventy six to nineteen eighty or nineteen eighty four with a much smaller boycott in nineteen eighty eight the gains went online in the immediate aftermath of the murder of eleven members of the Israeli delegation in nineteen seventy two the teams are always inclined the IOC to go on but this is an unprecedented situation perhaps the thing that's most analogous was just four years ago with the C. gap again make and back then the IOC decided we were going to go on with the Rio games even though there was this Zeca epidemic taking place as it happened as far as we know no one went to the games to attend them or completed them later I tested positive for sika in nineteen twenty three Spanish influenza epidemic it already ended by the time the games at age four four taking place but this is this is different this is unchartered waters Hannah yeah it and seek out was it was not classified as a pandemic and there are eight series of countries here Jeremy I mean we talk about everything that goes into this decision they are lined up to host the Olympics Beijing is going to host the Winter Games in twenty twenty two but maybe even more pertinent to our discussion today because it involves athletes and summer sports you have Paris hosting the Summer Games in twenty twenty four so are they prepared for there to be simply a three year span between Summer Games look we know the secrets can change I mean we remember you know before nineteen ninety four you had the winter in the summer games the scene here in every cycle and then they decide to split them off starting in nineteen ninety four and a two year interval if they needed to have the Summer Games in a place like Tokyo which is obviously already prepped holder there's some accommodations that would have to be made things that have been promised to other people in terms of the Olympic village stuff like that they can find places to do it there enough places to play host to the games it would be feasible and they had to change the schedule but these are these are big decisions but as we've already said you know it's there's no way it can happen this summer at this point he can't act major decisions for the I. O. C. coming before we can make the official announcement of postponing the Olympics this summer the organizations that oversee track swimming and gymnastics calling for a postponement and Monday the US Olympic officials getting behind that as well saying that postponing seems to be the way to go U. S. sports organizations lighting up and calling for a postponement not to mention the national committees in Canada Australia Brazil and Germany among others straight talk wireless everything for less only at Walmart SportsCenter all night ESPN radio football and bit of a surprise coming out of Dallas SportsCenter all night tweeted that quote after much consideration discussion and reflection I've decided to retire from football this was not an easy decision I had to the league has a twenty two year old never mind it's kinda long SportsCenter all night tweeted that if you continue for the entire seven paragraph tweet the bottom line is that it's from pulled probable center Travis Frederick and yes he's retiring the move did come as a bit of a surprise to the cowboys although sources say there had been rumblings about it in his retirement announcement Frederick notes his battle with GBS an autoimmune disease that affects the nervous system something which sidelined him in twenty eighteen after we lost some strength and motor skills but he was cleared and returned last year and started sixteen games the cowboys selected Travis Frederick in the first round of the twenty take a broader look at what's happened over the past week in NFL free agency ESPN senior writer bill Barnwell has the grades we'll start with the Cleveland Browns the team that disappointed so much last year and so much of their problems with Baker Mayfield struggling to stay in the pocket he felt the tiniest bit of pressure Baker Mayfield bailed out of the pocket and teams are coming so they go out and they signed Jack Conklin the best apple on the market from Tennessee not only very good run blocker but also a very solid pass blocker so now you have Baker may feel protected on the weak side you have a quarterback who's comfortable more in the pocket and head office and certainly everything gets unlocked you have more time to find out back and don't feel you have more time to find Austin Hooper on all those crossing master other big free agent addition on offense so Conklin I think can I want Baker Mayfield and that Walmart the entirety of that seemingly promising Cleveland Browns aka yeah they won't have this offseason whatever it might look like having the burden of all those expectations I I'm with you I I like the Cleveland did a lot all right give me a team that was maybe lousy that made some moves to become the center team that you thought was decent that made some moves to perhaps make some pretty good teams out there the colts obviously two big moves for them trading for divorce Buckner gives them that interior pass rusher they've locked they wanna rush for drop seven into coverage but the big move of course Philip rivers a guy who I think have a lot more than what we saw in Los Angeles last year guide through the league leading seven interceptions within five minutes of the fourth quarter when his team was trailing seems during picks when his team was desperate and they had to throw the trying to catch up keep an eye out of those situations which I think the cold can do filter is gonna look good he's going from one of the worst offensive lines in football terms and after action to one of the best with the Indianapolis Colts so I think there is going to look more like the guy we saw in twenty eighteen and the guy we saw struggling with the Chargers in twenty nineteen our list closer we started you gave you gave eight grades in your very stingy with a grade you gave out three of them like that professor used despise one will to give anybody a is Brady gets in a breeze gets today Brian Poole guessing what the jets help me understand why he's in a he's great he's a really good spot cornerback and I think we're coming into the market given how much quarters we getting paid last year boosting stock orders get multi year deals nine million dollar a year range Brian Poole one year five million dollars that's a great value I mean how often do we get a chance to say something the jets did during the off season was smart and good value that happens once a generation so I was taking advantage of my opportunity and giving the jets brought a pool in a for a rare good opportunity while we're handing out grades some free agents are now going to receive an incomplete the NFL physicians society deciding to discontinue physicals for players amid the current pandemic according to the NFL network a letter to both the league and the Players Association saying the suspension of physicals will last quote until the whole health crisis has passed the decision will likely affect free agents who have to wait for physicals in order to officially sign contracts with new teams not to mention draft prospects you've been facing.

"First two prominent nations you've got others who are pressuring the IOC to postpone and so as much as the committee would like to wait a month there's no way just like the entry level I couldn't even wait until the week the games are supposed to start once the domino's dropped and big schools pulled out and other smaller mid major schools made that same move it became impossible for March madness to proceed and that's what's going to happen with the Olympics no I don't know they can postpone it until later in the year to get it there so many logistics and details that have to be accounted for but can't in Australia are saying we will participate in twenty twenty the only way we'll send our athletes as if you postpone until next year if they're the only two nations to do it and the games are postponed until later in the year maybe maybe you we'll see that as a resolution and as a solution but I suspect that the opposite is going to happen more countries are going to take the same stand and the IOC's hand will be forced again a position the NC double a nose well caught between a rock and a hard place it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio thanks so much for sending all of your your messages on Facebook as well as on Twitter what made you smile this weekend al's as having my teenager over for an extended stay since there's no school this week and finding his favorite sweets at our local grocery store that's awesome let's see Darnell says we got the much needed cleaning done and knowing that we can hear you on the radio okay wait for it is this the last time I will hear you I'm just gonna stop answering the question and and people can just figure it out on the road I guess Daniel says on Facebook I went to Sam's club in their toilet paper I bought one good for you Daniel good for you a Steve I found a roll of toilet paper that made me smile this week James says staying home with my family is awesome what else James post a picture with his new puppy ara Dave also send us a photo with his dog and and there in front of us Saturday morning sunrise Paul is pulling two loaves of bread out of the oven cool I can't even smell it but that smells amazing and a lot of your posting pics with your kids which is awesome I believe in the silver linings every day nonessential businesses were closed and since people were urge to work from home are forced to work from home or in some cases are no longer working my neighborhood is full of people hanging out outside in the sunshine it was only in the forties over the weekend with the wind chills and yet people are hanging out on the streets smoking cigars having a beverage play with their kids every single yard on my block has people out whenever I go outside and so we're seeing more and more people get some fresh air get some exercise I had no idea there were so many dogs in my neighborhood I've been walking penny in my neighborhood for four years twice today never seen some of these dogs before we're going to get really acquainted with the neighborhood as we start to broadcast from home coming up on Monday night I don't know how it's going to sound we're going to work it out we're gonna work out the Kinks we're gonna figure it out and we're gonna move forward and and continue to give you the same show that that we always have as much as we possibly can we may have to make some adjustments we we may have to yeah we may have to cut back some of the things that we do but we're gonna make it work and I appreciate.
