"Karam is set to make his NASCAR debut in next month's Xfinity series race at the Indianapolis Road Course. Karen will be driving the number 31 Chevy for Jordan Anderson Racing, Woody Kane had a chance to catch up with sage following the recent announcement. You may know him from the IndyCar ranks, but he's also done just a little bit of everything, it seems erasing I racing. Low control cars, dirt bikes, the N C car series the Rolex 24 You name it, but sage. Now you're going to go racing the Xfinity series. Are you just trying to check off all the items from the bucket list or what? Yeah. You know, I think as a race car driver, it's really good to you know, get in as much stuff as you possibly Can. You learn more and more with everything Get to drive. So this is just something for me to to get a good good triad, and hopefully it's something that leads to something else down the road. I've always said that I really wanted to get an X An Xfinity car. Um, I just really never knew how to Get about that. Like, who? To contact and stuff like that. But, you know, we had a really good run at the end of 500 this year, getting seventh and I think that opened up some doors. And, you know, I'm really excited to, uh To be on board with Jordan Anderson Racing in the number 31 Montage Mountain Chevy Camaro, So I think it's going to be a lot of fun going to one of my favorite tracks that you know the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the road course this time, so I'm looking forward to it. Jeff thanks a lot it's It's really a pleasure to be here. Great talking with you and look forward to our discussion today so before we dive into your cloud journey. I'd like you to share your background and some about the unique perspective that you bring to our conversation today. That sounds good as you know. It is varied so hopefully the audience will be able to follow but i actually started my career in banking graduated from ball state university and for the next ten years. Really dedicate myself to banking with an emphasis on commercial banking working with businesses on basically how to finance and manages our companies as appropriate But that led to a desire to move into technology because of some companies. I really became good friends with at the end of the day. So i left banking one thousand nine hundred eighty eight and went to work for local indianapolis software company called baker hill which ironically sold software to banks Which was a good entry through me to continue my my professional sales career but also step into the world of technology and so i spent a few years with them. We were acquired by a company called experience. You may have heard of them and stayed with them for about another five years. But then i started to get a little itchy if you will to do something kind of crazy and so i actually went and worked in indycar motor sports for a couple of years. Were very fortunate enough to be executive vice president of operations for panther racing. I say that because our sponsor was the national guard in just the spent a couple of years working with the minimum of the national guard was just such a privilege. It was so far from what i was doing that. It was just a one and refreshing but yet just a little bit of a payback to our men and women of the armed of the armed services but from there. I really did not like being away from home. One hundred eighty two hundred days a year to get back into technology. Did so an. And that's actually wearing you. And i met you were at cio of goodwill. And i was your lackey. Sales rep for a couple of years. Our lacking sales but worked at another local company called blue lock where we focused on infrastructure as a service disaster recovery as a service in obviously eventually was acquired in work there for about six years which actually then led me to where i'm at today in. That is the managing director of money tree. Managing a saz company infants ac and we are owned by accu chek in other indian owned company that provides trust accounting software and i basically manage the business unit For money tree underneath accu. Daily - Jimmie Johnsons Rolex 24 impressions
"Jimmy. Johnson describes how his rolex twenty four started with himself behind the wheel to kick off the entire race and to have an opportunity to drive action express to have my former sponsor with ally on board and chelsea's here jeff gordon. You know pre-race. Although i did miss the fans now being there there still was just a great energy To be standing there knowing. I was getting ready to start This just amazing event. You know. I've never had the honor to start in this race before so a lot of really cool emotions and memories and thoughts at all. Never forget pine now jimmy during that first step behind the wheel was et more. Making sure that you didn't wreck the race car. And kind of keep yourself in contention for the rest of the team. Sure you don't wanna be the one to break the toy so to To miss some of the carnage. There were a few close calls. That i had ellen pico. Some some kind of two or three white off. The king and was spinning came back up on the track and turn five right in front of us. That one really got my attention because the dirt and dust was in the air and i couldn't see and pick the right lane and was able to squeak thyself certainly a lot of nerves to deliver the car in one piece and i'm so happy to have that out of the way can go rest and just kind of fall into the rhythm of what this race needs. Look for jimmy behind the wheel. The chip ganassi number forty eight indycar this season at road and street courses on the schedule.
Daily - Jimmie Johnson had a rough 2020 Cup Season
"For jimmy johnson. Let's just say he had a ton of obstacles in his last full time season. In nascar you get into the year and oftentimes times. They're things that disappoint your stress. You out in a negative way. And i haven't made it that far into the season to encounter any of that But last year was a really intense year. You know had very high expectations for myself The year didn't go as planned obviously Having my cova positive covid nineteen tests and missing the brickyard and missing the playoffs. You know there is a lot of negative stress on me during all of that so it can't come back at you know. This is motor torn. I do do recognize that but last year at least you know the middle part of the year Into the start of the playoffs you know it was an uncomfortable pressure. A different type of pressure. That experience too often jimmy johnson compares the cars. He's driven in the rolex. Twenty four nascar and indycar from the dp. The dpi is the car does move around in the corner. You do lack rip off and have to drive the and there's a big window to slip and slide in that that's much more in line with my nascar days. I'm finding in the indycar that that window to slide. Things around is so narrow and i've i've looped it on corner exit multiple times now a result so i i feel like i'm able to once i get into the turn and leave the corner in a dpi car or i'm still on edge in the indycar.
Interview With Racing Driver Alexander Rossi
"Okay folks. This should be fun. We've got a famous racing driver on the show alexander rossi's in the house. This dude races indycar. He races prototypes. He's had a hand in bathurst sat. Hand formula one. He sat a hand off road. And he's telling us stories about all of it. Alexander rossi is on the smug tire podcast. It's from indiana alexander. Rossi is in the house or virtually. What's up man not much. Thanks for having me your welcome. Thank you for dive bombing in zach. Let's get him back. Because i don't wanna look at me. The audience wants to see alex and yet there is with a beautifully soft zoom background approp- appropriate for working from home. Welcome thank you. I'm i'm happy to be here. Happy that in this day and age we can still at face to face contact. Bertish again which i would have bought zoom stock Year ago a year ago the were skype was verb skype. Nothing anymore but that was like skype was the was kleenex a year ago. Where do they go. I mean has anyone dropped the ball harder than skype zooms product. Really that much better though. I think i think we'll we're not we don't use zoom we're using switzer cast but zoom. I think zack zoom the first one to do the the multiple boxes. Zillow allow you to do group chatting. Can you do that on skype Skype followed zoom and skype is far worse. It's quite bad okay. I guess that's that's be it was all about all about the group chat presume I just want to start with like what the hell is it. Like to be a racing driver in the last twelve months like is it. Weird is it. It's less cool than it was fourteen months ago. Just it's it's amazing. How much the fans. I mean to any sport but yeah to racing. You know there's because we don't really see them in the middle of race because you're in a car and it's not a stadium type sport so much of the pre event build up. An energy is all fan related. So that goes away. You're kind of like on the grid about to do this race when it's kind of like cool. This is weird. I feel your practice or something's a practice race. Shouldn't something like that. Because you're right. Show the driver introductions and the fireworks and the parade lap and all that sort of thing and when that goes away. You're just getting in your car and driving around in circles to people have they done. Did they have they tried to do. I mean look. Obviously everyone's doing doing their best to make make it work and keep keep people employed and keep people entertained and you know from drivers to crew people to whoever tv people and whatnot. Have they tried to do anything. That was really a good faith effort to take something that was formerly in person and and make it virtual where you're just like. Oh god this does not work. Yeah kind of and like it's a good segue like. I'm so thankful that we're able to get a season in the first place right. That was always a big concern. When this when this all kind of kicked off on march like are we going to raise his racing exists and all this stuff so it was a huge effort from the promoters in the series teams. All kind of finagle. Their way and make make a season happen but yeah the series tried a lot of different virtual kind of fan meet and greets in sponsor appearances. And it was. It was a necessary evil. Sure but i about the fact that. I just cannot wait for the day that you were back to in person attendance. Just because it's so it's so strange because sometimes like you have these these meet and greets but like people don't really wanna talk to you so you're just sitting there trying to engage audience. That doesn't have anything to ask. And you're like well. I have this for launch. Today i grew up in california. And it's just it's very strange. You lose that human to human interaction but nonetheless we're all adapting. It's all good. It's a it's a very much a first world problem and on unhappy to to start the season here next weekend.

NASCAR and the Annapolis Motor Speedway announced this morning that starting in 2021, the Brickyard will be moved to the IMS Road course taking away the oval that NASCAR has been on since 1994 also announced that the Brickyard weekend next year will be a NASCAR IndyCar doubleheader on August 14th and 15th.
IndyCar-NASCAR doubleheader adds 'cachet' to motorsports
"Being able to be in the stands at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, doubleheader weekend is here as Indy car and now scar will compete at items for the first time together in history. Years about finding a racetrack somewhere in the country where we could get NASCAR and IndyCar same weekend, same race track and kind of cool that it turned out to be the Indianapolis Motor Speedway I AMs President Doug Bulls told fans to hang in there and he looks forward to seeing them soon. When you

"Well you all that being said obviously, you know Texas. came out. You're sitting really pretty in the points right now you know, and obviously we're only one round deep, but looking at the schedule you know I. It's Kinda thrown a wrench in everybody's plans. Because you guys kind of had the schedule lined out. You know what I mean, and and in preseason mindset of the rhythm of the season, and all that's kind of been broken apart now you know, and now everything's Kinda thrown up in a blender, and we've got the month of May, and August and all kinds of craziness. Going on, you know, and it's like how's that affected you in in you and the team? I mean because you had preseason. Flow the season would be, and now it's kind of like you guys are completely. You know everybody's kind of throwing it as blender and really not knowing what to expect. Or you know I think. Should pool from maybe some of your dirt explaining it. Next quarter you know just. You know turn by turn, and just trying to be as flexible possible, but you know I the thing. I like about it so much. Is that you know Texas especially being a one day show, people thought it'd be a disadvantage for the guys like myself. Growing have a couple of years under our belts, but really it was kind of an advantage because you know. We only got one session to go out there and run the car. And it, usually the second or third session of the guys like Dixon. Hunter A and power that they have twenty years of experience. They can come back from and be like okay. These are the little details I really need to focus on. So I think having things off. Rhythm is a little bit of a level playing field for a lot of younger guys. just because you know we don't have you know fifteen years of an indycar schedule programmed into our heads. It's just we're still kind of taking it day by day and I think you know we're just happy to be back from the race car I think that's the biggest thing it doesn't matter. If we had to do seventeen races in one day, you know I think all of us are just. This one time has given us something. It's just given us that appreciation for driving not that we have lost, but we didn't focus on as much before you and I think that's funny. You mentioned that because that was actually one of the things I know me as a driver, an offroad, obviously you in Indycar drivers are all of created equal in in a sense where I think we took for granted a lot of things in our careers. You know and it's like something gets taken away even. Even, if it was just a couple of months, and you really start salivating for, and it makes you appreciate not only that, but you know fans and everything else i. mean you guys just ran a race at Texas Motor? speedway that you normally would have a a packed house and there was nobody there and outside of your teams, and and a few select media personnel. You know it's I think this whole thing coming out of at the other side I think it's really given US A. Lot more appreciation for what we have and one things do happen like fans coming back and things like that. I think it's GonNa give us even not that we didn't appreciate fans before, but now you know we really appreciate them. You know you know. That's exactly right. I think you know everything in life that we're doing. You know you don't truly understand it until you take a step back and get to view it from a different perspective. And I think especially with this. I think that we all had. A lot of us, you know it's our livelihood. What we we do each week so for us all to be forced to take a step back and start appreciating it from a completely different angle, and a longing for it I think yeah, just made the passion for it. All grow a little bit deeper I know in that time I went back and revisited all of my favorite raising is I watched you know like six or seven years old and you know I just I became merely a fan again, and then I got to remember. Oh cool I go to Texas and like five days, so you know it was. It was a reward after a long break of just. Sitting and thinking about racing well and I think that's one thing that's funny because I think. Everybody Away I've done a lot of interviews and we're still kind of coming out of it, but I I feel like everybody we we've. We've got to show more of our personality through social media and things like that because we didn't really didn't have racing to talk about you know so. It was like people got creative. With their social media, and what they were doing behind the scenes, and I feel like fans now have actually got. A deep appreciation for drivers because they've got to see sides of these drivers that maybe they didn't get to see before you know. Yeah man I mean I. I feel the girlfriend. We built a van over the winter and you know basically like. Rock climbing backpacking out of a you know when we went to Saint Pete it was probably like sixty percent complete and It was time off. Definitely gave a lot of time to get the thing close I think we're like ninety percents. finished with it now. So you know I do appreciate that, but yeah, that's the funny thing is I see so? So many requests now my could earn my instagram for non relate non racing related things. It's you know. Hey, where you been climbing at or house, the van coming along you know what else are GonNa? Do to it so I think yeah, we definitely opened up more of a personal life in the past three years or three months. Say because. Well you know life goes on, and we don't have raising talk about You know we're still people we we still have things to do. And I think that's been fun, so I hope a lot of. Don't lose that once we get back into the heart of racing, you know I've always been more open with the things that we're doing, but it's fun to see things like you know Dixon and power just hanging out with their kids and being a dad. You know it's little stuff like that I. Think Connects Connects everyone. Well, I will say you know. There was a little bit of racing. That happened during during. You know kind of the months off. Obviously you know indycar an IRA saying got together and did some stuff and I do have to Mitch and I mean you know you did finish top ten during at indy during the month of May you know so, that is something Zach. Yeah. I think we've finished top ten Moteki I close in Michigan. Yeah, the, so you know. That was fun. It was it made it kind go by a lot faster. Say before I racing thing came back. you know the Whiz felt very long, and then all of us started logging six hour days practicing down in our little. Dungeons and basements they could then Yeah, you'd look up and you'd be like. It's Friday or any okay cool. I go racing again, so you know luckily I? Don't think all the time we all spend on. Them didn't call too many divorces in the racing. but the fun thing at the end of it. We had a wives and girlfriends race, where all of our off better half got to get on the semi, and compete against each other and I think of a whole everything thing, that's probably my most enjoyable moment, just just letting them see kind of a little bit into our world and and just step into a coaching role to or just you know. Helping people along I think we all kind of. Fun! I will tell you and I know obviously he's a good friend of both of ours but poor. Alex Rossi I know he did a couple of my off-road events to and. He. Just I think he's one of those guys that. If there's anybody that's thankful to get back behind the wheel of a real race car is definitely Alex Rossi because he doesn't have a second career racer like I throw Alex. But his SIM racing career, it needs to be shelved. Same though. Like the oval 'cause like relatively anyone jump on the fence and go fast. All the ovals 'cause like the fix setups or good, but on the road courses Rossi and I really like together for like three seconds off the pro like send guys more like all right. This is embarrassing for you know. We were laughing at that Texas. You're like. When's the last time you touched your back and I was like Chequered flag at Indianapolis. What I think, we had so much sim racing. You know in six weeks. We're on it. You know every day basically practicing that once we saw light at the inventory real racing where we all took a big step back to. To take some time off because I think we all took it too seriously, and we kind of the fun of it. Yeah and that's. That's the thing you know and I know like conor Daly had some fun with his.

"We're talking about you know your twenty twenty that you've got lined up and this fulltime riot and how important was twenty nineteen in that you a lot of drivers. Things don't work their way. They kind of just fe fade away. And just wait for that phone call and they start sending emails. They're not really. You know. I GUESS. You know in in. Pick BILL'S PICTURE. But you on the other hand you went. You know you picked up some rides here and there. Obviously you had a great run at indy. You did some stuff with midgets the Chili Bowl. Obviously you were talking about the Lamborghini series. You know. I know you were driving. What the the two seater. When you got a chance I mean how was that like staying in front of people you know how. How important was everything? We're doing and staying in the public eye. Did that help bring this ride in two thousand twenty together into really humbling experience. I mean you go from two years in a row of being. You know being the guy at the team. You're working working towards winning races. We were on the Party. My rookie year called so good twenty seventeen. I thought it was a building year into You know it's you're a three year deal with. This team really really enjoyed working with the guys that foyt And they they needed a financial solution that I didn't have And I end up literally a fish out of water So I it's tough. It's awkward it's annoying You know I you know showing up driving to Cedar or just walking around seeing all my friends doing what I love to do. And I can't do it Really tough so I see how it would be hard for others potentially go through that or even you know as an ego thing like kind of having your ego crushed and kind of going back walking around in a in a polo jeans every weekend But but it was what was necessary and honestly it was totally worth it. I mean to be back now. Full time I mean. I have so many goals that I want to accomplish still I want. I've been dying to get in the car at some of these track that I felt. I was quite strong and twenty sixteen rookie air. And I'm just I'm so pumped it was worth it. It's a very humbling experience. It's it's not. It's not what I want to have to go through again but you know I appreciate those for sure who you know who helped me out and who got me to the race track. Who let me stay on their couch in their hotel rooms race weekend at times Just to be there. Well I WANNA ask too because I had guests on the show. What are we talking few months back when his new TV show is debuting? Got Derek Feeler really well and I think one of the cool things about you is wearing the polo jeans. You're actually able to be an ambassador for Indycar and and then some of the charities and different organizations you work with you know but I know Derek Theater. I had him on the show. This is a motorsport show is like conor daily. I'm like Yeah Dude. I know counter day. Ladies I do that guy is awesome. You know and so I start looking at things. I look at things like that and like it did give you some opportunity to meet some people from other walks of life when you're full-time just wearing the suit concentrating on racing. You probably didn't get a chance to meet you. Know Yeah. Bully and and getting to get into the sports you know I got to meet a couple of people doing now which is really cool and dare. Garrett's the Great Guy Obviously the connection there is you know he's a type one diabetic myself Now is really cool to talk about that and kind of you know become friends you know through you know through that and obviously I had him out to Portland last year which lasted about five hundred yards but but it was still really cool to have out there and I'm definitely GonNa add another race this year. Hopefully if we can we can have people at the but But yeah I I got to meet a lot of people thankfully I in the car was able to use me and a couple of different ways and I kept telling us it literally use me. You have access to me every weekend you can. You can do anything. I involved cleaning floors. I don't care I mean I'll talk a fan. Do whatever you do and I think again that the brand and build the brand a little bit and you know it all at all positive and end so going back. I guess we wrapping up the I. Racing and INDYCAR series. We're going to shift gears and started. June hopefully hopefully go racing at Texas but I guess we got a big one left for IRA sing. I mean I gotta wonder you know. Obviously there's racing indy. Five hundred how? How how? I guess it's not a five hundred miles. What do they call like the seventy laps or something like that? I can't remember but I mean I. Is this a big thing to win? It's India right. I mean if you win this is like a big thing. I mean you know you know how I mean. I know these guys are having fun with it if you win. It's cool but I mean how big would be winning. The I racing indy. Five hundred B I don't I don't really know to be honest. I see it as a As something that you know whoever spent ten thousand hours on it this week is probably GonNa win. I am I gonNa do that absolutely. Is anyone else doing it that I note nope? Alex hasn't even done a laugh yet. He doesn't want to do a laugh until Saturday. Which is definitely not optimal because we have a practice race later today so I don't know it. It's GONNA be interesting. I I don't think you can predict it. I think are people going to be a little bit more. You know focused and dedicated towards and try to be a little bit more aggressive. Yes Sir it's and people. It is special no matter what and I would love to win. I think that'd be awesome But you just never know. I mean it's you could so easily get wiped out in the crash lap one and you could so easily get disconnected from eating at all if something happens though it's It's GonNa be a fight. It's going to be a battle. They're going to be angry at other people and I hope that we make it through the whole thing and show up at the end with for well and go back talking about India. Let's talk about the real India. I mean it's been around in the late summer temperature. I mean it's going to be humid as hell in Indianapolis around that time. You're in Indiana boy. You understand that I mean you know what what what are. We looking at difference wise..

"My good friend Conor. Daly got got my buddy conner daily on the line. I guess got to be a full time indycar driver this year but right now you're fulltime. Ira Sir my friend. How's everything going? Yeah it's an interesting title to Have never really expected that Yeah here we are. I mean. It's obviously a weird time can be alive right now. but We gotta do the best of what we got right now which is currently Video Games and steering wheels in our guest bedrooms in my case. It's pretty wild. I got a radio studio in my guest bedrooms. So there you go you know what I mean. It's we do what we gotta do to stay relevant right Yeah exactly I mean it is what it. W- you know I I. I've always been into video games. Love Video Games. I've always been called nerd but my friends but now a lot of the other drivers are putting in more hours than I do. So is this you know it's it's hilarious tables of turn. Everyone is now nerd and You know we're all competing like it's a real race every weekend because you know we're competitive here. Well you know it's funny. I had this conversation with somebody yesterday and I said you know out of everybody in motor sport. And we don't WanNa get into the guys who have definitely hurt their stock by the whole I racing thing but out of everybody in Motorsport. I said you know caught her. I said I said I appreciate him. Because I said you go into the indycar season and then you look a month and a half later. And I said Qatar's the one guy who's actually improved his stock because not only do we know you're bad ass indycar driver but now you've got this social following in the IRA and community and gaming. And everything else. Like I I don't know if there's a way to be successful in the middle of a pandemic somehow you figured out a way to stay relevant. Actually Improve Your stockman. I appreciate it man. I mean it. It's all about building brand. I mean every day even even when the world was you know was running as normal. You got to build your brand every day whether it's on me or whatever and I mean I've been on the twitch twitch stuff for a while but You know I never really played racing games. So it's not really been super appealing. I guess my core fan base But now enforced new so You know it's it's it's something my family's Roy I think you know I'm I'm still going to be streaming as much lower normally stream. You know when when this whole pandemic is over. I'll probably play a little bit more duty than I. Racing but I I'm not a huge fan of the area since then but I think probably still end up doing some mobile rations with some people because oval stuff fun but but yeah it's it's it's it's something you gotTa Think About Building Your brand twitch platform that we have is so great big fans engaged if people that support you are able to support you. You know multiple way on their platform. So I think it's I think that. Yeah well I ask her. Twit stream has become like its own thing. You know what I mean like. It's and you've got. I mean everybody talks about when you guys whether it be you know we had my offer event you guys have the rallycross stuff you got the indycar stuff but your stream. I mean and you got the usual suspects you and Alex and and travel and I chatter e POPs on their hinch does with some of the events things like that you know. It's like what I did this whole thing. You'd organized because now it's become like the place to go and when something's on everybody wants to tune into your twitch twitch feed just so they can hear the chaos yeah certainly. It's been surprising how much it's taken off by I think what ended up happening. Is You know. Obviously the INDYCAR guys we sort of all in my close friend released like I already knew that operate marriage. There already knew like I knew it. This scored the newer. We can get together and chat And then you know at least a hang out while we're doing this. Ira thing and then. I told everyone well. You know by the way treatment as well and they're like yeah whatever and then you know just kind of it kind went from there so I think it's you know it's a place where we can just be really honest and laugh at the same time is trying to compete And then all of a sudden our you know we got Travis Pastrana in there. We've got Chad read. Chad is a good friend of mine. We raised against the last year and the Lamborghini super series which was really cool. And I mean I've been Fan Chad for a long time. You guys. I was always number twenty two when I was growing up. That's mainly because my dad was twenty two at one point in Formula One but Chad's obviously rep the number twenty two for a long time. And he's he's been a legend. It's really cool to be a part of Of that little group of people and and it's been hilarious so coming out of this quarantine to be friends with Travis Pastrana inside read and and I think that's We can hang that up as life goal achieved you get to hang out with the trash. You got shot. It was a red bull video right at Indianapolis Motor speedway this winter. You're the you're one of the golfers in the video right so I know you can try. It traveled Hung out before and during that Red Bull. Shoot in the middle of like a frigid ass Indianapolis Winter. I know I. They did not know I was a driver or anything didn't travel once. I was purely used as an extra on the didn't even see Rossi that day literally. It was so cold that no one was really hanging out at the golf. That's the truth comes out of that video because I figured I was like. Oh that'd be a fun group to hang out with right now. Everybody that I've talked to. I think Liza said that was like literally one of the coldest days ever to be out there filming. She's like no. Don't WanNa do it again. Well terrible honestly. Great product gray finished product but Gal. It was a rough day. Well let's talk a little bit about twenty twenty Max we'll come back to the IRA stuff in a minute. But I know this was we had caught up but I know this was actually really until the rug got pulled out from all of us and eight will still be an epic year for you. You're one of the guys I know you've obviously last year. You found some numerous homes had a great run in Indianapolis finished tenth. There you know coming into the season though I mean you know you picked up that ride with with ECR which was for all the all the road and street courses plus Andy which have you stoked man because ECR indy. I mean that's you know that's a car that can put it on the poll. You know and then you also brought Carlin for the remaining oversee. You somehow splice together a fulltime ride in indycar. I mean it wasn't in the normal traditional sense but you gotta to be pumped to be back fulltime in the INDYCAR series this year. Yeah I mean. We've been working on it for for years. I it's been in twenty seventeen. We've been full-time so it's really cool to to get back to that. It's it's been a long road it's been popped not really sure how it's you know. I didn't really know how it was. GonNa go times But the only reason I'm here airports I mean they're they're the only legitimate reason why I'm still in any driver which is You know which is which I'm really thankful for An incredible sponsor credible partner able to represent four And and yeah I mean it is going to be exciting. Do we get less races. Ask which is very similar to how you know. I assumed would you know I never would. I assume that there would be a pandemic when I re employed for full-time season but I sing. Something of this nature would happen. I do tend to have a monkey pets fine. I'm so sorry start. All those who've had their season dependent. It's probably my fault but it's GonNa be fun to great teams Carlos Awesome. I'm actually starting the season with Carlin. I up now because Texas is our first rate so that'll be the first time ever in my indycar career. I will have been with the same team but at the same track two years in a row so and so. It's GonNa be exciting to do that. And then When we get an carpenter racing team I can't wait a for those guys. It's been so fun to get to know everyone and I get to know better. They run such a great organization and I'm just I'm so pumped to get back. You know to real life. Well how does the schedule I mean? Obviously you guys. All you guys are professionals. You can adapt and overcome. But how does this new scheduled kind of throw a wrench in your plans? I mean you guys had everything planned out and obviously I know it. Probably the teams. I mean it's got them working double time trying to figure out logistics and everything else so this new new schedule you know. Use a driver. I mean you kind of had an idea of the way the the flow of the season was going to go things like that with tracks travel you know and the mix of ovals and road courses and things like that you know now all of a sudden we're starting out in Texas. I think we got. What a trio of dates in Indianapolis I mean. How is this changed the way you're approaching things just because it's completely different man? I mean month. May I mean we're playing we're playing? Ira Sing in the month of May. Something's weird you know. Yeah it's it's honestly like it does make me sad thing about You know I I have never in my life ever since I existed and the human. And they're not been an indy. Five hundred in the month of May is a every every year my life better track every year my life. I've you know I've been excited for the race of the fan and then a driver So it is. It is going to be mentally quite difficult. I think we go through the next couple of weeks But you know we. We do have something to afford. I mean we have we have sexist Jim. We have scheduled a fifteen races You know and and hopefully more maybe have more I mean I think it's a dynamic situation that is gonNA always change. Everyone's going to have to adapt. I think the toughest thing for me being with a new team with cardinals the fact that now testing is not allowed anymore. So you know. We were going to do a lot of questions throughout the year because the team the team doesn't cut corners at all. And we have you know. We had plenty of tax days lined up as much as we can do And now all that's gone and it's it's GonNa be very sure race weekends. It looks like potentially You know until we get things a little bit more back to normal so it's GonNa be really tough on drivers. Really tough on rookies It's going to be really tough. I think everyone's GonNa try and you know go. Bigger go home. Type of approach could be a lot of mistakes So you just gotTa hope you make it in the first. Few races is a bit of a information collecting journey and try to try to stay. Stay good point strategy. Stay up towards the Front And then really hit your stride mid season when one hundred is happening in August. So we'll see what happens. How how important was it?.
Travel to Senegal and The Gambia
"Welcome the image traveler. I'm your host Chris Christensen. Let's talk about West Africa. I like to welcome to the show. Brian Asher from the world hiker DOT COM. Who has come to talk to us about Senegal and the Gambia in West Africa? Brian Welcome to the show. Thank you thank you for having me. I know you were surprised that we had not previously done in episode of Amateur Traveler on this region and as we were talking about before we started recording. We don't get as many pitches but also there aren't as many travelers who tend to go to west Africa East Africa. Southern Africa tend to get a little more tourists in general. Why should someone go to that region before we focus in on Senegal? Gambia I think. West Africa's really vibrance several my friends. Who have been there for years in the Peace Corps? Said it's about the People? It's about the markets it's about the color it's about the way they treat you just the life that's on the streets of West Africa. I think we hear of animals. Safaris maybe eastern Southern Africa West. Africa's is really the beating hearts of the continents with some of the most populous countries in the fascinating region with lots of smaller countries grouped. In that you can visit In the whole region there will. We've chosen to talk about Senegal and the Gambia one. Because you've been there recently and we always try and focus on someplace. That wasn't a ten years ago trip. The you've been to all the countries in Africa. Yes four fifty four nations and Africa hats off to you. Thank you and people may be wondering why we're talking about the two of them. This is one of those very odd places where one country actually completely surrounds. The exactly the Gambia's inside of Senegal. So the Gumby has no other neighbors have Senegal to the North East. The South and the West is the ocean. So it's completely involved excellent. And why should someone go to Senegal Gambia? I think Senegal and the Gambia great introduction to Africa and especially to West Africa. They're safe countries. They're countries that are kind of a soft introduction. They're not quite as hard hitting some the other countries in west Africa. Very safe to visit for me. The the weather was very nice after coming from kind of more tropical and intense heat in the Sahara for example movement way across and the people. The people are very friendly. There's not vowed kind of lively music in the streets that you can listen to all the time and there is a decent number of Europeans between but a large French population. There's quite a few Lebanese. That live there a special indy car in the capital of Senegal. And it's it's very soft welcoming place that would not intimidate so I think most people when they think of Africa that would be a great place to start and by contrast. Then what you're saying is there's some of their neighbors. We're them might be a little more. You think twice about going because of poverty terrorism Civil war or disease. Yeah those those are the only reasons I can think of not to go to some of the areas over the last ten years at least in western Africa and I think the Transportation as well kind of infrastructure with having made my way of public transportation there are a lot of Africa can be extremely slow and the Senegal Gambia. Our little breath of fresh air to be able to get around quite a bit easier than the light of the countries in the region and I'm fascinated to hear about this. I have technically been indycar but really only in the airport. And they didn't let me off the plane so I really knew very little about the area. So what kind of itinerary would you recommend? I think that Senegal be the one that you'd want to spend more time in. The car has quite a bit to see in there quite a few beaches right there. Outside of the city I stayed in a neighborhood called walk. Tom Which is nicely placed next to the African Renaissance Monument which is the largest statue and all of Africa. That kind of looks down on the whole region there and Indycar and you can take a couple of really nice day trip south from the car so if you stayed there for two three or four days I think that would be an ideal amount of time to spend their most people like I went to a place called Goree Island which is very famous for being one of the biggest places that had slaves that were coming out to the Americas and you can learn a lot but the history. They're easy to walk around. There's a ferry that goes every couple hours to get there and place it almost everyone. The cousin Senegal visits during the first couple days sides stay for the car to three days with the city and the surrounding area and then a couple of days up to St Louis which is about four hours for five hours north by bus. Okay and you could spend a day or two. They're known for its famous. Saint Louis Arch known. Not that Saint. Louis Okay the other Saint Louis in Senegal. It takes a good six to eight hours going by bus. You could take a private car if you want. Or if you're on a tour to get down to the Gambia assume that's GONNA take up half or two thirds of a day and then I'd be down in Bonn Jewel and area right below it whether it's nice speeches and a monkey parking things for two to three days so I think you could easily piece together somewhere between eight and ten days which would be kind of a nice length of a visit between Senegal Gambia. Excellent so you started us into car and you mentioned going out to the island whose name I've already forgotten it's gory island heart ee. Eileen with just one of the biggest hubs for the slave trade and they have fairies that go out every couple hours and that's definitely Come a must do if you're in Dakar. I think almost anyone I've talked to has done not visit for half day or two thirds of the day and real easy to walk arounds. Thinks about a kilometre too long. And that's locals there with colorful art kids playing soccer in slave museums. That are there that you can visit as well and so I assume there's a fourth year which is where they keep the slaves locked up. Yes and what else are we going to do the two or three days in the car? How are we gonNA spend that you mentioned the monument and there's a couple of monuments there the country it's about ninety six percent Muslim and so there's several nice mosques to visit as well in the lot of fishermen that go out and I love think West Africa? One of the images of the coastal areas. Are these colorful fishing boats that you can see like dozens of guys sliding off into the water and then sliding back up with their catch from the day and there's a lot of seafood that they bring in so these real colorfully painted. Boats is one of the images that you'll see on the coast there in Indycar and their fishing from the there than rather than from okay and is there a place you would go to see that. There is a mosque called the mosque of the divinity which had a bunch of these colorful boats right next to it and it's right there in the car about five or ten minutes from where I was staying in the neighborhood of calm and I stayed AIRBNB. There's lots of airbnb options there for budget travelers and there's all different ranges of accommodation but there are inexpensive options for those looking for him as well and I stayed with a local man there and enjoyed always like state local people to give you all flavor of what it's like will what I usually find when we're talking about. Travelling in lesser developed areas of Africa is that we're talking about not an inexpensive flight to get in relatively expensive for the distance intra country flights inside of Africa. Compare for instance or a US but then really cheap food and really cheap housing. Is that right? Yeah that's true. And so that's the Pros and cons. I always way between local transport and the flights I think the flights between the Gambian cars forty minutes so in say but I just checked in it's still upwards of one hundred forty to one hundred eighty dollars for a forty minute one slight. It's not too bad for Africa standards. It can be a lot worse a lot worse or west African flights but bus. I WanNa say it was about eighteen dollars that took me there so you just have to pick and choose. What's worth more your your time or your money. Well and that is going to be an individual choice. Yeah another thing. A lot of people like to do is there's a pink lake there several of these in the world. There's one in Mexico unless Jerry I believe and there's one about Sarah outside of Dakar. That is is another kind of one of them. Must do things on the visit. That would take you maybe about a half day and so that is really really pick. Yeah if you look at pictures online. There's one called Rainbow Mountain in Peru or I don't know how much instagram or things put filters on it and this one depending on who's pictured is it's pink. It was quite pink but sometimes the pictures make it. Look even more amazingly think depend on. The season tends to be kind of lighter darker shades of pink. That has the salt miners. That are out there. And kind of local people selling artwork in tourist items. So and so this is Lake Ripa. Yes my GRANDPA Loch rose. I think in French shore the lake what it can go by. I would say gory. Islands and Pink Lake would be to half day trips. That would make sense to have with your day or so exploring around the car so to make it two or three days for the car and it strives. You might say
Melissa RoyDreams From Her Father
"Hey now I am bureau host ric and this episode with guest. Melissa Roy was recorded back in late February while there was ample concerned in regard to cove it at that time especially in a place like China in much of the world. Business went about as normal in fact. I left Bangkok on March. Second to start an eight week trip. Indycar for the start of our road trip on March fifteenth on her first day Gambia. We had a team dinner where we decided to cancel the trip into leave. Banjul the following day. While I was really disappointed in just several more days this look like in the stupid decision borders inflates began to close and cancel like dominoes. I'm now in Bangkok self quarantining. Well I hope you'll your cash flow vic. Thanks James Yep am self quarantining and social distancing as we speak so this covert thing just seemed to really accelerate very quickly When things really started hitting the fan were any of your trips In action at that point. Did you have to close trips out early? Evacuate People What was the situation? Yeah exactly what I think. The the weekend of I think it was the fourteenth fifteenth of March around that weekend Things inching to accelerate very quickly. We had a good trip to Syria Which was due to start on that weekend and we we with. I think about thirty six hours before it started really had a couple of guests had arrived in Lebanon on that trip. We had a good trip to south. Sudan was finishing event that we can. We had one guest Continuing onto a national park in the far south of South Sudan and we had to call him back early to make sure he could leave Juba Juba F. O. Had a tip from someone from the UN that the EPA was going to close on Monday night so we had to get that person out at one of our team who was on that trip Is is accusing self contained in South Africa at the moment So yet that we can things did seem to. Things did accelerate Very quickly and as soon as we sold that we we did anticipate that travel was going to be restricted due to coke in nineteen With with total guests trips coming up at the we had concerned we wanted to in this situation but that we candidate accelerate very fast. As I'm sure you will what How was it with you around that time it? Yeah somewhat of a similar circumstance timeline wise. I was in Senegal Gambia. Over March fifteenth or so Sunday In after we crossed into Gambia on the evening of the fifteenth Me In the fellow. Travelers IS WITH. We kind of had a team dinner and we cancelled we build on our month trip to. West Africa and flew home on the sixteenth Monday and got a directly direct flight OUTTA Gambia to to Turkey and onwards to Bangkok James so just give us kind of a brief update of the trips that were already in place so to speak but How's this affecting untamed borders right now. What's what's this mean to the business. I mean the May decide Travel any description in the show. Possibly to medium-term is just not going to happen and when travel begins it will be you know. People start traveling again Who knows when that will start at who knows when that will stop being to some of the areas that we We guided so for the moment We people with upcoming trips. Having given the option to to cancel to move their trips to late nights. We've got people who've moved onto trips towards the end of twenty twenty meeting trips into twenty twenty one so we're planning We're hoping that we will be able to resume in the in the medium term but we Planning the tangle this will be solid enough and resilience enough to take a long pause out and ready to go it again. Um whenever trouble begins as you know. I've got extremism connection especially with Afghanistan Pakistan and when travel begins again will be will be guiding again It might mean that. Have to do some other. Bits and bobs and make ends meet and things like that in the meantime But we back. We will be guiding assumes. We're able to

Quarantine GP Review
"China's in the last couple of weeks we had the trailing curl pray. We then had the canceled postponed in the end. The Bahrain growing praise just when he thought the bar and Grill impre. We wouldn't have to sit through it. I think there were a bad literally three or four different visions all right most of rice in the digital world at some point. I have an aunt in rally on Monday morning. It's incredible because we obviously deciding what to do for this podcast. You might have noticed. This not really eighty four. This time. We thought we'd go and have a look at what happened in the racing world overnight. I did say one of the many Bahrain Grand Prix but I didn't realize to looking it up. How bloody many of these things? They were overnight. Candidate isn't there. Some kind of is this because of competition law like what's GonNa do. We have to have five different ones. Have One this is why they just be one. Formula One and INDYCAR and champ schism that American open wheel racing had prove. It just doesn't work. We just need one dictator shifts to rule all of the one of the one. And that's it. So this is what's happened. We've had three unsanctioned run divisions of the Byron Parade ever on trying to put the writing sponsors on their own cars and this is like wealthy with cricket. "indycar" Discussed on Pit Lane Parley
"I think that might be a stretch. I do think that any car can continue their slow but gradual increase of TV ratings social media presence and hand in kind of the falling. That indycar has I think is slightly. been going up year-by-year so that's definitely a good thing. I see this deal hurting that I still think that trend will continue to go on. Should be worried probably not You know they're kind of kings the castle when it comes to opening racing and They hopefully have that new car coming in twenty twenty one which I know. I'm excited for but I also can see the potential for that to reinvigorate reinvigorate effluent into being some premier entertainment. Because you know at the moment not very good but I do see a lot of potential for them to be a much stronger the entertainment marketplace in a couple years. You kinda just brought it up with saying they're not very good entertainment right now F.. One is he's obviously struggling on the entertainment side of things. I think that they are gaining a little bit in in some fan driver interaction. I I'm not saying it's good by any means but I I think they are trying to make gains on so I do want to applaud them him for that As far as do I feel like it's GonNa Regain fans that were lost. Probably not at this point. I mean there's been so many years between now and and people have found if they haven't comeback I'm back. They've found other avenues to get their fix BE IT NASCAR at Dirt track racing whatever They have kind of probably probably found there I.

"Well come to car cast math motor. Deandra here with with Bill Goldberg calling in Busy Day. You're out working right plus on around always man traveling and hustling and you know doing a two we traveled to this. Ford Mustang event that I'm leaving in a day for a to San Francisco for a Lincoln event doing a ride and drive for that and then from there going directly to Seattle Seattle GonNa fit visit our friends at Ford Motor Sport and toured their facility. I'm kind of looking forward to that. I've actually never been to Seattle so gonNA spend a day or two there yeah yeah. That's your appetite yeah. That's exactly what everybody's been telling me so I'm looking forward to it. I WANNA get into this indycar stuff a little bit. We sent a couple of guys over to the INDYCAR race for the season finale alley and we're gonNA talk to Jose. Let me just get Jose on the line right now. We'll get a kind of recap on that. Hold on Hello Jose. Hey Buddy. You're you're on the phone with me with Matt and Bill Goldberg and we're getting into this indycar thing a little bit you you. You were one of the guys who won tickets to the event and I want to talk to you a little bit about it but indy-car season finale happened up in in Monterey. It's fantastic to see those cars on the track that we love so much over. You're going to say if you guys haven't caught up on it too much you can. I can see highlights from the race and whatnot usually at indy cars website but rookie nineteen year old rookie Coltman khurda he he won the race will pageant willpower came in second Scott Dixon. WHO's recently on car cast with US came in third confronts Simon Passionate came in fourth out at the race itself and the indy-car season results Joseph New Garden Art. who had a big points lead took the championship? He's our champion. Simon came in second and he's teammates teammates both on the PENSKE team with Joseph New Garden so congratulations the team penske for taken one two in the season championship and Alexander Rossi another car cast guest of veteran came in third overall in the point so it was exciting to see that it was a great eight event great I didn't get a chance to go watch some of it and good to see that friends of ours in the INDYCAR world did so well It seemed like it was fun so Jose. Tell us about what did you what did you do. Where'd you come from. Where are you based based. In Mersin. I said Central Valley Okay and then you went up. Who'd you go with with my brother you did and so you guys had to go and pick up the tickets over will call its off site so apologize. If that's a little hectic but hopefully that worked out for you. Did you guys go up Saturday and Sunday. What your schedule We both have to work on Saturday but we went early Sunday morning Ryan. The WILCO was not a problem at all because you got to you got to the hotel and once you let once you got Outta there there was era. There was signs and it was pretty much a straight shot to the track. Had you been to an Indycar race before never always meant for years and I lived in the valley the whole time and never got to and had you been to a Laguna Seca the race track before no no well there you go. That's that's kind of exciting. It's a great facility. We love that track. It's always kind of cool. There and it's a great location. Tell me about INDYCAR. How'd you like that and I understand you guys got. Some paddock passes as well. Maybe you got a chance to go round and say hi. Ho Yeah Teams Yeah. It was just we we got there early enough. There were there were barely starting lineup. The Indy Lights uh-huh we went to paddock and we got to see the the L. them turning up the cars. Were on the arrows. Can't you could go right up to the next to the car pretty much and watch them as they're running it through their jobs and having to computers on it I had never been that close me and my had never been that close to a race car and it was just even the smell of that fuel burn which something you know that was it was cool. It was awesome fantastic. It sounds great. I am I've been able to go out. Turn do that. A few times before and and bill is Ben do all sorts of races over the years and we've been to drag racing NASCAR and it's great to hear his interpretation of the experience because it gives you know I don't know the percentage of our words of that have not been there race but just a visceral feeling alone of being being in the pit It's really hard to describe but you know for a first time first time race fan there I bet it was a damn cool experience experience. It was even just like the smell of the 'cause he's not gasoline and it's just it's almost kinda sweet united and you're either either had beaten eggs that you may just awesome and the whole thing they all experience if you have five five sell down and cut my arm and blood came out. That's what it would smell. The smell like those cars are crazy in those teams are so precise. They're so tight in you. See Them. They go in and then are taken apart the car and and back together again and the way the body were comes off in you get a glimpse underneath some of the body work even just the stuff you can see some some of it's still proprietary that you kinda see it. They don't like a lot of pictures of it but there are so complex underneath the skin and as they're just firing up and and getting those things warm it's one thing but then they get onto the track and the volume is just escalated those things at at. RPM are are just fantastic and that's such a great track because it's so complicated and you can kind of move around. I don't if you've got a chance to to sit up in the grandstands or where you got to see some of the race but if you move around like up to the corkscrew or to the to the to the main straight or or wherever wherever or even to some of the grandstand areas you can you can get a get a good glimpse of what some of these cars are doing and how they really kind of battle on the track you know we we were at the grant stance but one of the best experiences rise as we were getting ready to. We heard the indy lights race finishing so I told my brother that just go get a good seat. At the grandstands you know wanted to be at the starting line and we started working way out and as it happens we were we've somebody one of the stuarts watch out and we're in a corner and here comes the the the line of indy lights might tactically on our feet you you know driving right past us. Oh yeah and it was a it was a corner so they have to slow down and then use it as they you know they went right past as and that itself what the exhaust pointing right in tasers again it was not it was awesome. We it was a great experience right. You go to a costco. Parking lot in the last thing you want is everyone's exhausted in your face when when they're getting in and out there but but you're on the race track you just suck it all in. Yeah Yeah Yeah. It was really good. You you get when you walked around the paddock. was there any particular teams that you got a chance to get up and close with was Ernie drivers. You've got a chance to meet. Apparently we barely missed Mario Andretti. You don't trailer truck whatever we were. We got the crowd was Kinda still hanging out but he the had gone inside but the arrows the arrows chant was really open. I mean you you could because it was opening in the front open on the side so they they had the most access yellow you could you could see some of the teams but you. Kinda like we're looking from the the back end of the you know whether it's trust or or one of the things that they had but you could walk around the arrows on and they were reading it that was they have the most it was really it was really nice as cool sounds great man I'm. I'm glad you had a good time. Hopefully you'll you'll get out to more racist that was kind of our point with doing this stuff with with Bristol and Nascar now with Indycar as well was to to get some people out there and especially people who haven't had a chance to go out and experience and event like this before but I'll tell you what you you gotta call us back at at some point because coming up soon in November I believe is the misquoted I said winter nationals on on the last show but NHRA is coming back to Pomona and it is also I believe the the season finale so I spoke to our friends wins over at Jags and they're putting together a nice package where we're going to be able to give away some tickets to Nhra in Pomona and and you're go there and get to meet the JAGS team and tour the car and not just paddock access we think we can get you guys behind the ropes and and and meet the team and even peak maybe into the trailer in Kinda under hood literally under the hood of some of these cars man thought India's loud allowed wait way to go and they fire up some of these funny cars and pro stock cars definitely bring ear protection for that. You'RE GONNA win two layers of ear protection action because you talk about sights and sounds and bill and I've gone out to these events a few times for four year in the grandstands and when those cars ars run down the Strip not always it so loud you feel this wave of energy over your whole body. Imagine like like you'd see in a movie. It's like an explosion ocean-going off and have the sound wave of energy. You feel it over your eyes your face your your chest. Your legs like you get this sound wave of energy at an is so so intense like you see it on tv but you gotta experience this stuff in person so I'm glad you went out to indy. Thanks for calling in and telling us about it and and hopefully we can do something with you guys soon our new friend bill as well. We didn't get a chance to get him on the phone. He sent a nice email with this whole experience. Yes I think he went with his dad and we're looking forward to. Nhra so Jose thank you so much though thank you guys so much it was a great expense bench and from this me and my brother decided again. Brad definitely gonna be doing stuff like this morning. I'm glad you're that's fantastic much all right. Thanks Take Care Okay bye-bye all right. That sounds fun right so good. I'm glad he had a good time. We got some other stuff to to to go over. I wanted to touch on a few things the INDYCAR race he seemed team create and we're so happy for everybody that did so well over there at the event. We've got we've got the SEMA. Show coming up Bill. Is You say you got cards going to Sima one car to Kars yeah as of this morning I got two car's gone looks like the demons going to be at wells close to have the carbon wide-body the Chapel Joe Okay so they're putting the the wide-bodied Challenger out front. I I'm not sure I really don't know I think they are because it's been out there years past and they wanNA show you know in in the same spot year after year as it's progressed with the to build okay it probably will be in the shadow of your truck yeah so yeah. We'll talk about that. What do the updates on that. What's what's the status of the wide-body Challenger right. Now you send it out there to win the whipple charger. We still gotTA. We gotta get the guys the engine builders on the phone at some point because I think they're pretty much wrapping up right. Oh yeah the engines on we think they did was the car was sent back to speed core. They took the casing off from the Super Charger and it's down being dipped right now with my cammo along with the break shoppers and just a little accent you know work gun and it'll should be done here in the next couple of days and then shipped back down here so I can get some sheets on nine hundred seventy seven horsepower horsepower car so the the guys in Florida that what's the name of that shop the fabric gearhead advocation so gearhead fabrications worked on the engine. They installed the big whipple on it. They put it on the dino. Got Some kind of nine hundred plus horsepower out of it right nine seven nine hundred seventy seven eight.

"Fearless innovators were making. World of better place. Maccabi the device the cloud cyber security company. Well, now, we can turn our attentions IndyCar thrilling race at circuit, the America's the first time IndyCar Gomer, and we've got some airings and joining us to tell us all about it. It was remarkable today. Tom because we saw Colton her to become the youngest ever win over IndyCar race at the age of just eighteen Yang incredible ready halfway through the race. It like it was willpower is rice to loose and Alexander Rossi at times looked a bit quicker. But couldn't find a way past, sir. For long portions of the rice, he looked like he was going to be the theme of the weekend, which was Penske seeing to get to grips of a new track much quicker than everyone else, and it was to lose. But I always the way an indie call it takes one caution in the race turns on his head. He's one of those races, isn't it because we had willpower leading from pole from Rossi and Kelton hurts or whether we had some and his she will talk about the reasons for that. And the minute he took third from Ron hunter right at the start. And so he was a strong concern the rule away through we should we should sites. Only as third IndyCar start is. No. So he's young. He's inexperienced. And he's also in. Saying that isn't especially well fancied you could say well. Yeah. That really I think you can look at the season, we're Stein. Brenna? Harding racing is what looked like a real feel-good story and that they'd given a big chance to two young talents in one race alone. In twenty eighteen they were the the real deal the next big thing and then for various engine deals we'd had Honda talking quite a bit about how they were starting to get pushed to the limit engine supply. We had to see one of those drivers loser seats, and it starts a little bit multiple choice that but then spring training came around. It's awesome. As cold and riled the box hurts it was the one right at they're saying lap times, and you have to usual thing. It's just testing. What does it mean? When you came to practice for the real race weekend her to his right up there again. And even when they had the the engine problem. I one of the practice sessions didn't recent phasing ready to go..

"These are my favorite of all all the outback's they ever made. So I say go forth and outback. Yes, thank you. Turbo. G says have you met Fernando Alonzo gif one versus Indy. I mean, culture culture culture, you got a serious. You know, culture shock last year when he came to the US, but he can terms enjoyed it. Didn't he had a good time? He, but he I mean, I think that based on what his perception was and to come over and see what it what it was like he was so blown away by that. And you know, it's obviously it's the biggest race of the year. And so he came over and did that and he's doing it again this year, and I think McLaren, although they're not running a fulltime team this year. I think that's definitely in the cards and feature Zac Brown and runs that program is, you know, he's an e comes from IndyCar comes from IndyCar NASCAR, very that's why the opportunity is there. So I think that, you know, Fernando be back more and more and more and Z chill Zuko. Yeah. He's he's a great guy. I, you know, I spent a little bit of time with them and was very very, you know, cordial, and he was super nice and. Shirley comes. Yeah. Is it any culture is not as snooty as if one is not at? All right. I find I found it to be like halfway inbetween NASCAR. And f one. Yeah. I mean, I think that it's it's. You know, I think that the the culture of racing in the US is you kind of couple like IMSA and IndyCar and like the world like the world challenge stuff. I kinda like has a very similar paddock few and then NASCAR is kind of its own culture. It's a little it's not little any like NASCAR. Resi drink. But in a in a portable container wine and a candidate. May maybe maybe like, maybe like a cocktail call Jack and coke kind of thing Long Beach grand prix when I went down, there Graham invited me down and him and his people were super super sweet. Everyone in the paddock is is. But it was not like I went to Monaco grand prix, which is the holiest of the toity. Yeah. You know? And it was not nothing like that. Yeah. It was it was show actually joined it thought it was fun vibe at IndyCar. Yeah. No. I mean, they they do a good job. I mean the series has done a really good job of working with like again MCI and the other series, and and creating a very cool environment and IndyCars really pushing their drivers really hard. And that's kind of one of those things like you. You look at it. And like for me, I look at the business aspect of it, and you know in the future when I'm when I'm done driving. You know, whatever I end up driving at the end of the day and. You know, I I still want to be involved with the sport and my heart. You know, I love IndyCar, and I love the open-wheel stuff. And I see the if you could only drive one kind of car, would it be the IndyCar. Yeah. Absolutely. But I mean, I still love the sport. The endurance racing is a lot of fun and interesting is is a cool, really sport. You know? It's it's like it's more of like the team aspect as you're driving with multiple people. Yeah. I mean, the most of the the majority of the racists throughout the season, it's two people per car. Right. But you know, you're looking at what the racist..

"Roll or whatever it is, if that's what it is that's what it is, but it's the way that the way the Jackie champion for, you know, safety one, there's gotta be somebody that champions through this because the only professional sports where the players don't have it association has their interests at heart, and that's that seems wrong. And that's not that's not a shot at IndyCar. Again, if I said in the article shade every time we talk about this, this isn't enough. I know we feel like would be wrong divided them. This is purely just we feel behind the times and that's motor sports, f the dozen having associated the way the GP what I'm talking about. Nine for doesn't have one. One one, it's more sports globally is is behind the eight ball on on how this should operate. Yeah, it's awfully early here and the article just came out. Have you had any feedback at all from Indy-Car management on this inch. Honestly, no. To to kind of sit down and talk posts. But you know, as I said, we've we've had conversations over the last few years. It's come up in conversation with with with different people in IndyCar management. You know, I've tried this team owners about it as well. When you know even full one created the Formula one team societas. Right? That's right. I mentioned that a NASCAR has the RTA for teams. That's right. Even IndyCar I think to talk about unifying and and being a little more a little more on the same page, always tough to do when you have a group of individuals whose whose means and successes or directly affected by the failures of others. Depended on the on the failures of not successes of others. It's important, you know, I think all the party gonna present it properly in in the kind of business rain. It just makes sense. And it's just trying to be fair. You know, you guys are put the risk on the line for the teams on the sponsors in the show for the fans. You should be protected while you're doing it doing that Hinch. And I think that's nothing more than fair. And I think that's the basis of this whole thing just about a minute left to go here season all done, kind of up and down the high with the wind, Iowa, the disappointment of not qualifying for the five hundred tenth and final points. This team is too good to give up. They never have given up. They won't give up and I know there's better things on the horizon, but kind of a kind of a weird kind of weird campaign for you for twenty eighteen. Yeah, definitely. As you said highs lows. That's that's the thing for a twenty nineteen victory. We've put a together for full cars and I think all the cheese. For twenty eighteen really pay off. You know, despite the fact that the double points race, we headed points want to be proud. What was always kind of look at it the building here. So definitely high hopes for twenty nineteen rebel this head organization as it is the chance to kind of tweaking in tune a little bit. Whenever we do one of these interviews, it's easy to understand why you are the most popular driver in IndyCar hint era, a good guy. Thanks for this time, and good luck with this idea for drivers association with some muscle blinded because I say, I think it's a very important issue and we're going to do whatever we can will on the race line radio network to to assist you in any way possible getting the word out. Thanks so much for this. Have yourself a great off-season and we will chat sooner than leader. My friend. So there is what James Hinchcliffe is thinking right now going into the IndyCar op season, the formation of an IndyCar drivers association. So the guy's suing the risk are better protected. Primarily through insurance is long overdue, and it's a, it's a high profile. Personality like hint is behind this for sure. All right. Well, that final pitstop is do them. We're going to return the last laugh next week, show ideas.

"Okay, Oakville, James Hinchcliffe has been thinking about this for a while as you heard in part one for talking to several fellow IndyCar drivers about added protection that Indy-Car currently provides going forward since they're the ones taking all the risk for the sake of the show, the establishment he's talking about of a drivers association. So here's part two of our telephone conversation with James Hinchcliffe on race line radio, primarily, you're concerned about the level of risk you and your fellow drivers have to take to do what you do for a living and the need for greater insurance. A lot of guys on the greater are driving for nothing and without insurance because they can't afford it and that bright there. There is a pretty scary thing to realize, isn't it. It is, you know, and and again, you wanna do elements of the article that you know that were left down and I do. I do agree that a little bit, but once get wasn't mentioned is that card does provide a certain level of insurance for drivers on track? Right. But a lot of guys, if given the opportunity would you know purchase additional above and beyond insurance, because there's really supplemental program, the preferred solution brain driver would be to have their own. But the fact is, you know, insurance on an IndyCar drivers career is not a prospect understand why. And when you have drivers that are out there driving for little to no money that it's just it's just not an option. It's just economically possible and something about that doesn't seem right. And I think there are a lot of collusion that aren't just the team owners or the series pulling putting your hands in pockets and pulling out a bunch of cash to cover this. I think there are other solutions that don't just cost everybody money, but still offer drivers..

"So I haven't covered it because I don't have the info. What does my race schedule look like in twenty nineteen going to be what classes this is Michael in Phoenix. I don't know if I know you Michael in Phoenix, but. My, I don't know what my schedule is gonna be. I'll know. Next year we're starting to put it together. Obviously it'll be a mix of trophy. Draken razor, invest in the desert. Hopefully some Tara cross stuff trying to put something together for king of the hammers and a UTV. I'm not gonna run. I would love to do shortcourse had a dealer unsure course this year at the Crandon events, but I ended up taking TV deal. Yeah, I actually made money this year instead of spending it to go racing right now seriously though. So maybe short-course will see gotta know it. I got to see if I get renewed for TV. I before I commit to that, but I don't know. You know, all kinds of ideas being tossed around at this point, be a mixed desert. Maybe king the hammers and maybe short course tear cross. I, I don't know, and it'll be a mix of truck in UTV stuff. I would like to get behind the wheel of a rally car at some point for fish and a stage rally. So I don't know. It's going to be going to be an eclectic mix of all kinds of of racing. You know, it's me. I just like fun and I'm not after championships any of that. I just like to go out and have fun. So this is from Katie in Indianapolis, who's your pick for the IndyCar title this year? Yes. About a loaded one. Right. And this isn't. I think right now you've got to talk about two drivers talking about Pinski, you know, you get new garden power and stuff like that, but. Dixon or or the safe bets at this point? Right. I'm in Alexander Rossi fan. You guys know this once again, give plug that interview. I did with Rossi last week going. Listen to that. Rossy is doing everything in his power to win this championship. You wanna Pocono took the last win, was it their middle high? Oh, I believe. And he's winning in dominating fashion. So Rossi. Yes, he is strong. Dixon and this is widely known Dixon is arguably the greatest race car driver on the planet. Right now you ask anybody in IndyCar anybody in Formula one. He's as good as any Formula one world champion. He's as good as the Lonzo. He is that good. He's not going to get a in the one ride because he's just older. They're looking for twenty three year old. Not not a guy approaching forty, but Dickson is a bad ass. I would never count Dixon out. Nobody will ever count Dixon out. He is that good. And he hasn't been driving bad Rossi's just been driving on another level. So my pick, it's tough. You know, I, it's a tossup between Rossi and Dixon at this point. We'll see how things shake out and Saint Louis. I think this is going to be the pivotal race, right? Rossi gets another win and Dixon finishes. Third or fourth, I would. I would go with Rossi you know, Rossi, but if Dixon can get, you know that stamp there and go boom and win, stay. St Louis and in Rossy finishes, fourth or fifth, it say it's, it's gonna be tough going. So I think it's on Rossi at this point. Rassi has to continue to do what he's doing for this thing to the sing to work out for sure. So I don't know right now say I said, it's a tossup. Let's circle back on this next week after Saint Louis, and I'll give you hit Hanser. Easiest thing I can say that being said tune in that was one of the best races last year. They do an amazing job. There is the bomber ITO group there with that event in Saint Louis in Shane Ray slash, this is going to be one of the best IndyCar aces of the year tune in this weekend to that one. If you haven't watched any Qarase as yet you are missing out. This is going to be an epic epic one in Saint Louis this weekend, so no doubt about it. So we'll circle back. We're gonna table this discussion for next week after Saint Louis, and then I'll tell you definitively. But right now it's tossup between Rossi and Dixon. And another question this is from. Who is from anyways. The question is..

She's actually caused player. You know, I into gaming and pop culture, and I sat down he was we talked about offroad razors. After the interview we talked to you about pop culture's girlfriend talked about, you know, racing in Europe versus racing United States, like he was just a genuine guy that I really kind of. You know, this is a guy like I would want to hang out with like, you know, and, and we did for quite a while, you know, just talked and it was. It was a ton of fun, you know? And I don't know. It's just this was was a tough one. Man. I saw that and I didn't know what to think. I'm just so thankful that wiccans is okay now not. Okay. But you know, he he's doing. All right. Was just. Oh, man. It was a very scary, scary crash, you know, his race car drivers, you don't. It's fans like we, we don't. Sometimes I think we forget. The speeds and the consequences of auto racing, you know, whether it be trophy truck and you know, banging through the desert one hundred and thirty miles an hour. That's not normal like vehicles aren't supposed to do that. You know, you're not supposed to go through three or four foot. Whoops, at three hundred at one hundred thirty miles an hour. You're not supposed to take a top fuel car at three hundred and thirty miles an hour. An IndyCar isn't supposed to go around and oval at two hundred twenty miles an hour. These things aren't normal. They're not supposed to happen, but somehow we figured out with technology to make them happen. Like we're literally were changing the forces of nature, you know, with auto racing, whether it be desert or IndyCar NHRA or whatever you wanna talk about. Like we're doing things that physically shouldn't be possible and we make it look easy. And I think that we as fans and we drivers sometimes we forget in Antrim Brown is set at a lot. He goes. One, I'm behind the wheel of a top fuel car. He's like, I'm not in control. He's like, I'm just kind of guiding the chaos. And I think that's the perfect analogy for IndyCar trophy truck, everything. You just kind of guiding the chaos, but once in a while you can't guide it in and it just happens and such was the case with wiccans and you know, and I know something like that happens and spend a while since. We've lost somebody think fully thank God that we didn't lose Robert. But I think it brings everything back full circle into perspective, you know, and we start thinking again about man. How can we make better? And you see the, you know, they call it the cheese, grater fence and things like that. The walls have been safer in in auto racing for for years since. Well, since Dale Earnhardt. Right. And you know, we've got safer barriers and all this, and but now the the catch fencing when car does get everywhere. Now, that's the thing. And with with IndyCar you know, being that it's open cockpit, you know, makes it even more dangerously stockcar you've got, you know this capsule around in an IndyCar too, but you know, makes people go halo gonna come in and I hate halo. From Formula one, I hate the halos. I know they've got this big almost like a fighter pilot kind of bubble..

I know it wasn't a full show. It's kind of like a podcast version of the show, but last week's episode with Alexander Rossi it was a mash up between project action. My other show in the Downunder and radio show. Go back. Listen to that. Alex. It was a very good interview with Alex spent thirty forty minutes with him, and I think he has a really gonna enjoy. It kind of goes behind the scenes with with him. You know, he went to Europe, won the Indy five hundred. Now he's, you know, he's in a points battle for the car championship. He ended up winning this past weekend at Pocono, but. I think I think he has a really going to join that one. So for some reason, I know with bega Torino Ali other racing going on things like that. I wasn't is active on social media's I should have been promoting it, but it's worth the listen, go back. Listen to that. You know with Alexander Rossy does not does not disappoint promise you that so, but speaking of IndyCar we've gotta talk about Pocono and. This one I got home from Vegas during on Saturday. You know, and it was one of the things like, all right, Sunday hanging caught up on some Email. I'm gonna watch Pocono IndyCar and what the heck we're gonna watch WWE summer slam. Right? I told you, I, I'm open. I'm still I'm the Thirty-seven-year-old wrestling fan. Right? And watch this stuff since I was a kid and it just haven't stopped yet by vice like those pay per views Rhonda Rousey. She was fighting right anytime. Ronda Rousey is on TV. You're going to watch. Yeah. So I was gearing up to watch that, but Pocono. Wow. The start you wanna talk about, I guess this is on air, so it's a bleep show bleep right? Fill in the blank fill in the bleep. It was a bleep show to start with crash right off the bat. Going into turn one reaction. We stack them go again and. Robert wickens. I'm kind of speeches is one of those, like I was gonna have IndyCar drivers on air today, and it was my goal to have just had Alexander Rosty, but there's so many drivers that are doing amazing things this year that I wanted to get an IndyCar driver on. I scratched it all because. I didn't want to put them in a position because if you if you're gonna have an IndyCar driver air, you've gotta talk about, you know, the ten thousand pound gorilla in the room, which was this Robert Wickens crash, and I didn't want to force them to talk about it. So we didn't have an IndyCar driver on this week. I thought I would talk about it, but I, I'm in the unique position racecar driver, but I'm also TV personality. And one that crash happened, and I know what I've been trained to do when a crash like that happens out on track and your TV personality, there's certain things you say, and there's certain things you don't say. And then you also know with camera angles and such. You know what I mean? You know they, they don't show certain things knowing all this. I'm watching the television broadcast and I honestly thought it was. It was a fatal accident, and I'm so beyond thankful that it wasn't. In Robert Wickens. I know I'm I'm looking at the Indy-Car website right now. They've got a recent. I don't know if you guys don't even know what I'm talking about. It's all over YouTube. It's all over social media. It's got to be one of the worst crashes I've ever seen in all the motor sport. But wiccans you know, the way he hit the wall and everything else just it was nuts, but he did go under undergo surgery. I guess he's got spinal injuries, get injuries to his legs arms. It was bad. He's, he's, he. I don't want to say he's fine. He's still alive. He, I think he's out of the woods. As far as that goes. It doesn't sound like there's any head injuries either, but I think he's going to have a long road ahead. But this is a guy at the Indy five hundred. I spend thirty forty minutes with and..

"When this course many many times i've paced this race in the wet cold hot and calm it is never a casual thing for me but an honor to be asked today i let down my friends my family in our our city and my company sorry does not describe it i wanna think our engineers for providing me the safety i know is the best in the world and quote so obviously this appears to be an honest mistake just lost control of the car but here's my question will this change pace cars moving forward why do you need a pace car i didn't indycar race think about it had he been hurt or god forbid like seriously injured or killed they would've had to cancel the race i mean that's the that's it it's over before it starts the indycar drivers are obviously trained professionals this guy's a vp you know at general motors they were just doing him a solid let him drive the pay isn't the pace car kind of an unnecessary risk putting on a radio who drove the pace car at the indy five hundred this year victor only depot you see too risky yeah i i think i would get rid of the between this is the first time i've ever heard of the guy who's driving the pace car to crash it like this has been going on for years right i when i was in that celebrity race i'm telling you at any moment i could have crashed into something correct i mean at any moment but you accepted that risk you went driving school you were a driver i don't know if you had a pace car an if you remember if you did or not we did not have a pay we started in one of those a pace car it's like an unnecessary risk it's almost like sending somebody out to do the kickoff in the nfl just three in that race right at the beginning i was the last position in the in the field is in the last row and donna feldman supermodel down donna fell lives in the last row yes so attracts so donna feldman missed a gear when when we actually started so i was in front of her and she we came to the first turn and she was a better driver than i was and i just waved her through i said go ahead i know you're gonna pass me.

"Incredible and i really thought that indycar for sure formula one would come look at what we did because if that's what they're really worried about is is completely seal everything off from an income in the cockpit you can't find a better system than what we have in those canopies if not a canopy that enclose the cockpit like atop fuel rail indycar in f one could use lease the see through material that does not to start for a higher windscreen to be a lot lighter and i think a lot more eye appealing as well and stop all the whining nascar cup after the tire tested charlotte on the road course they've got their now both kyle busch and trevor bayne have concerns offering suggestions to track brass bush called a couple of corners if the are also concerned about the front stretch chicane added a turn for the show charlotte ovallis gained cuts to a grassy area then comes back up onto the straightaway near the start finish line but if you get in trouble there you have perhaps a direct head on impact into the wall and that ain't good bush and bain reckon they'll have to make some changes indycar easter time off heading into phoenix team rosters are filling goes we get closer to the one hundred second running of the indianapolis five hundred may schmidt peterson motorsport bringing back englishman j howard to tell her the number one number seven that should be one cure delara honda to make an squandered of four for the brickyard howard joins candidates james hinchcliffe and robert wickens along with jack harvey he's a co entry with mike shank racing this'll be howard's fourth attempt to qualify for the indianapolis five hundred one cure by the way is a program at the flint animal cancer center at colorado state university's on college department to fight cancer in animals coming up canada's james hinchcliffe indycar boss mark miles at nbc head john miller on their new blockbuster tv deal that kicks in for next year the continental tire sports car report is brought to you by continental tire for what you do so got.

"Open askar nascar open indycar i think we help each other just as often and and that's really why whenever we want to race we we bring the whole shop together i mean that the whole shop is in and askar guys unique or guys you know it's of it's a victory for everybody and um you know it sounds kind of cheesiness like one you know one of us when we all win but it's it's very true and it's out of the way that were modelled and i think that's why roger speaks about we've made much on this side just about when penske brought in joe eib brad vouched for him and brad was a big part it seems as if when team penske hired him he was a big part of that rationale it seems as if you guys all get along truly well an indycar side are there similar personalities that go across indycar nascar two guys hang out much what's at like well i think the hanging out parts tough you know i i've i probably spent more time off the track with ryan blaney and that's probably only been one day in all i did literally one day because there's there's just not enough time emmy first off i haven't been here enough i digest move to davidson in january two pretty much you're you're kind is starting to get going the nascar world and and uh the indycar worlds sir lee starting with testing everything so it's it's just tough you know he he learned i know for me as a race car driver if i'm not racing you know it's nice to be at home and like getting a little bit of recovery time even even in indycar when we have a scheduled that's much more condensed is still gets very intense during the year i mean you go through the entire month the may and june it's back to backed back for eight nine weeks and so a lot of that you know you're just happy to be at home when you had that time and and when we're not race in were off doolan you know partner visit sir um press tours or whatever it is it's you know people always ask what are you guys doing an i never have a great answer for it but were were always doing something that i can promise you that.
