"We're talking about the I'm unbelievable event last night in Chicago as we were coming off the air as Lawrence Last traffic report of the of the day for us was at 6 45 6 44 Last night, and there was police activity. That was occurring in Grecian last night and then We found out literally within minutes because 11 ambulances have been called to a scene and when 11 ambulances air called any seen anywhere in the world. It's a mass casualty event and there was a mass casualty event. 15 people shot in the streets, some of them returning fire to the car. It was an act of war. LaShawn Ford you just mentioned that is a state representative. It sounded like an act of war and it wass and it does appear that these were warring factions of people known to each other. And if this happened anywhere else in the world, and it does when it does happen anywhere else the world humans are aghast by it in Chicago. Even the news last night television is last night. It was the top story lasted two minutes and we moved on. And I just don't understand it. There's been there's no deployment of of supportive services for people that's experiencing trauma over in that area. People should be getting counseling over that area that was trauma. At the finest in that neighborhood. And so now those people are traumatized. And there's no telling what's gonna happen in their lives. And who they might have. You know, I gotta tell you, you really believe that. You have school. Many guns and drugs in the community. Without a real attack on it. Is the problem. How could it be easier for people and those communities of guns and ammunition and drugs than it is for them the open of business and get a job? That's a problem. It sounds like it's just, uh, talking point, but it's true. You really wanted to stop. This carnage in these neighborhoods, then we should stop. Guns and drugs in those neighborhoods. I stay in Austin. I stayed here 2 90 expressway. People that live in Hamburg and Western supper this hard crime, illegal drugs and guns in those neighborhoods because They are protected from it. But people could come near my house and purchase guns and drugs. From the suburbs. Guises allowed. You should stop it. Well, also, I would, I would argue. That when you go to those neighborhoods you're talking about going to the suburbs. Not might go to Schomburg. You would have. If neighbors knew there was a gun or drug market next door, they'd be calling on it. And they get police action. I think it's part of your point they would get. They would get a reaction from law enforcement, but they would have other neighbors that would step up and be around it and one of the issues that we run into and I know you run into this in Austin. They run into an aggression they run into it all of the most plagued neighborhoods in this city. Is that people are afraid to band together against those folks who are intent upon evil and heavily armed. And our intent upon revenge for anybody who knocks on. That's the lot of line and that's why that's why the's streets cannot be pacified. That's why that street last night could not be passed. You know, it's amazing. You know, we talked about economic development. We talk about something and you're Austin. Your neighborhood is one of the most devastated Urban environments, parts of it, then some of the most devastated urban environments in the United States of America, and they have been since 1968 since since the riots that that came after the assassination of Martin Luther King. There was burning of buildings and beautiful buildings, and you know what the architecture is there? It's some of that old stuff was absolutely amazing, and could be converted into multi unit dwellings that that that you know if they were downtown with sell for a $1,000,000 But they're in Austin and their next two burned out yards, and they're yes, next yard that look like forests now because nobody's cleaning him up, and that's and that's because That that is a proximate result of people not want to make an investment in that neighborhood. And you just asked a very important question lshaan for Which is why don't people why. Why can't they open a business? Why? Why is it easier to get a gun and to get drugs and get bullets? Why is it easier to do that, then to go and get a loan and open up a business? Because people don't want to open up the business and I'll tell you one more thing you went to say, just I don't want to brag on you a little bit here. But you you want a Weber? I thought you wanted a job right now. All right. So you your parents, you're the people who cared for you made sure that you got an education. Those people that in that school when you went to it made sure you got an education and you took a certain amount of responsibility for yourself. There's a lot of young men on these streets. You don't have that opportunity. They don't have anybody that ever cared about. You Don't have anybody that ever actually wanted to make sure that they got to school they had They had a parent or a guardian who would use an electrical cord not to plug in a lamp but to beat those Children into submission. And leave Mama Street and put him in institutions and then they come out and we are literally Year after year after year after year. We are inculcating. We know we and I say we because we're humans. We're all humans. We are allowing the inculcation of these primarily young men. To become natural born killers because we are not carrying about them and the communities and the churches and all the other social services. They can't keep up. They try. They try, But they can't fool is your right. You can't spoke with racism and discrimination in these communities. It's impossible. You got people like needed that. That I'm bluster have mated And even even though I have been able to overcome a lot, keeping an indictment A black man almost went to drill. This is what you said. Every day. They're racism. Discrimination is was killing and destroying neighborhoods like Austin in gored, Rosalynn. That's what we got to face. And then when we study and realized that no other country Would allow for drill alerts and guards to come into their community like black communes. It's not just the black people, the government the government must do everything that I can to protect people. That's what we take the oath of office to do. To protect the health and well being of these people, and we're selling it. Start the people's inspires glory to go out and fight fight drug game things When we pay taxes for the police to do it. It's not on started building this tax clothes to make that we stopped the flow of guns and drugs into our neighborhood. We had settled over the state. State police to do that for me had to leave it there because I got to run for great, But I think you should let me thank you very much appreciate. LaShawn Ford will come right back to take your phone calls. There's a chance your local Geico agent has.
