Fewer Choices (MM #4017)

"The NASA minute. With Kevin mason. Many people complain about the news media and saying there's more bias than ever before. And we were better off when we had fewer choices. You know, back in the days when we had three TV channels, ABC, CBS NBC. You had, of course, Walter Cronkite, number one, rated on CBS. The Huntley Brinkley report for a long time on NBC. And since I wasn't an ABC watcher, I think it was Howard K Smith back in the day. They had a lot of news anchors on ABC. They were always the third place team. But the one thing people say about the news media back then has everybody was basically reporting the same news. It was just a matter of which personality you liked more. It was fair. It was unbiased. Things changed when CNN came around because we had news 24 hours a day. Then of course you get Fox News and MSNBC, each with their own spin on the news. And it's not about wanting to be biased. It's about finding an audience. You're basically looking for ratings, so therefore you target a segment of the population, you know, will like what you do. It's never going to change. You just have to want to be unbiased. Can you really do that?

"Going to have to stick with it. It's a way it goes. So Lamar Jackson did not make it back for this one. Tyler Huntley back under center for the ravens. And look, the ravens are a team everyone's looking at right now and just saying like, okay, well, this should be a win for us. This one was really dicey though for the rams who trailed most of this game. They end up getting the late drive to go ahead and take the lead, but boy, it was getting hairy there for them. And Matthew Stafford, we've seen a couple times a year..

"It will seem fine. We go wait. No one got sick so great to hear that that's so important right now revived me. Yeah yeah i mean you know. And then you set a precedent to say you know it is possible and and you know we can. We can all live in fear forever and not leave all from doors. Which kind of is how it feels right now but At some point you got to say okay. I mean literally at this point. I'm i'm i mean you know for. We shouldn't say you know. I'm kind of ready to get get corona virus. Some like i think i. I'm i'm ready now. I'll i'll i'll get it like like the might get flu and then get over it. Yeah i'm not ready for that. I yeah i'm i'm i'm a person that's at risk so i cannot. I mean i'm very diligent about it. Had been since the beginning and wash my hands a lot sanitizer. I wear a mask. I mean in new york. You pretty much have to. Yeah yeah of cool. When when i go out i'd say ninety percent of new yorkers wear masks and that's encouraging net but there's a ten percent that are little foolish. Frankly walking around. We got outdoor dining in july which was nice to have and we were like so grateful. That movie theaters are still on hold. And obviously the big disappointment is broadway has been closed since march. So so it's like you know it it. New york is a tourist attraction and obviously this pandemic has hurt that very. Yeah i mean. I love new yorker. Spent a great deal my life in new york between williamsburg out new jersey. So the more recently spent write up in upstate. New york in harriman state park of someone. My sister right now is hunkered up in ulcer county with my parents who are already so they have a house up there and they've been there since march. It's just no sign of them. "Opinion is this i. It's like you really. I've seen a lot of bad shows in my lifetime. Believe me and and suffered through them. The thing that i like about this and why just refused throw it under the bus is that mark has such a complex universe once the pieces kind of fit and i think you're still in that discovery mode but once things click into place. I then you then you have a successful series at everybody's going to get on board and it was just you see the pieces there in the in the actors. The writing in india affects everything and wants it. All clicks people forget that star trek. The next generation didn't click until its third season so times it takes a show a while before it. Yeah i agree with you. I mean it's weird. I think mark sees things in slightly different ways and sometimes that's really frustrating. Sometimes that's just awesome. And you know i was looking at episode one and kind of going. Okay here we are on the hypocr smiling colony and it seems like what they sell in the bazaars on chris is cushions eastern european cushions and it was really frustrating. But i remember watching children of men. I think it was who who did children of men. And i remember he was trying to taking sifi. Instead of saying we need lots of effects to create the future he just created the surreal by having things like a camel. Walk past in the back of a war. Zone shot yeah. And i guess it could have been released from a cow a zoo or it could have been just some bizarre thing that happened in the future web. Camels like cows in india suddenly revealed creatures. But it allowed you to go well. This isn't the world i know. That's that's too strange an image for me to To sit comfortably. And i think that's something to do with the way mark perceives things as well some things you look out and go that that really that really lets the showdown but then you go..

"Started. It's its season last week with the victory against apple valley pretty good apple valley team. So so diablo's off on the right foot. But i'm thinking that survives going to get this win pretty convincingly mission be who is playing a brutal schedule nali schedule trump. Soco's chad johnson for stepping up. But i think their defense could be a little bit thin with only one returning starter against such a high powered servite offense so. I'm thinking that survives going to get a pretty convincing win. Another game to watch on thursday santa margarita. That game is now on thursday at noriko so eagles looking to go to on the young season. Now let's move to friday some really good interesting games as well. Let's start with notre dame of sherman oaks traveling down to j. sarah and that game's going to be seven o'clock kick-off we'll see how that one goes for the lions. They're young and experience. Notre dame pretty good team out of the the mission league also on friday this scheme august twenty seventh upland coming off shutout. Victory somewhat surprising. Shut out lahara. They're taking on. Orange lutheran that games also going to be at orange coast college at seven o'clock. I think lancers have an excellent chance. Why what they showed against sierra to go to to know and While that would be huge for some early momentum and then also on friday seeing john bosco looking to go to know though be back at home playing host to maybe the favorite in the missionary alumini which went out of state last week in one. Pretty tough game in utah. So i think there's definitely a couple of victories. You know they look possible for some truly teams bosco orange lutheran and sarah right there on that friday night. Now you've got the big one is gonna be on friday night. Modern-day traveling to texas a take on duncanville know this is. This is a huge game. There were pink and white flowers out. Everywhere befitting her visit the even matched her white dress and pink jacket but there was also a welcome. Dr biden sign so huge that the period on the doctor was as big as her head. It felt like a subtle rebuke to that scolding. She was subjected to back in december for using the title. She has every right to indeed in all the places she goes lately. She is honored as a woman with several degrees. Who has worked really hard her whole life at the most relatable job there is. "Catch the NFL playoffs on Fox. You could also hear that game right here on most of these same Westwood one stations. Tyler Huntley is back out as the quarterback for the Ravens. Lamar Jackson, still in the locker room under concussion protocol. There's kind of start to dance a little bit here in Buffalo, aren't they? Yeah, this is the loud part of the stadium and remember a new quarterback means new cadence. So we thought the Ravens had some issues with the snap before. Going for having full stop, mate Seymour now Edwards in the backfield next to Huntley. He'll take the hand off. He runs right cuts left and gets a couple of yards up to the 13. He stood up Edmund's Harrison Phillips, Justin Zimmer. They were all there. You know you didn't believe me, Tom. When I told you before the season one sees I said Hey, Divisional round will be in Buffalo on Saturday night. It'll be Tyler Huntley. I hold down two touchdowns for the Ravens trying to bring him back. You would have been like Tyler, who Wait for the Utah Utes Lotto showing blitz. Huntley to throw rose to his left pass is complete to Steed, but he's short of the first down. Johnson makes the tackle after a gain of six yards. The bills could host a F C championship next week if the Browns beat the Kansas City Chiefs. Now that's a yeoman's task. Can you imagine if it was Brown's bills? I mean, that would be inconceivable. Yeah, they're doubted to Huntley taps. His foot takes the snap pistol formation handsome Toh Edwards at Edwards first over his left guard and gets across the 25 to the 27 yard line. Bye. Wallace makes the tackle. That's a good game. As the clock winds 7 40 County to play fourth quarter Bills fans 6700 strong, They sound like 67,000 low snap. Huntley handles it throws to the right and it's nearly intercepted. Davis White stepped in front of Mark Andrews. Matt Mlada was there is well, that could have been a second pick six. You know, Ravens have had snap issues all year with both centers, Mascara and Patrick McCarter. It's mean It cost him that regular season game against the page rights, and it's going a long way towards costing him this game to second out of 10. Huntley takes the snap chest high drops back to pass its tip, and it's caught by Sneed at the 30 yard line. The market actually at the 29. Johnson was it on the coverage and made the tackle public. Huntley is fortunate that that ball wasn't deflected picked off 30 long now. This is where the Ravens offensive line struggles. They're built to run the ball. They're not built for obvious passing down. You got a rookie quarterback looking at his wristband right now, I would imagine the bills for about heat this young man up. Her down today. As Bryant stretched up to the far side up, Lee out of the gun pressure's coming. Here comes the blitz suddenly drops back to pass. He throws to his left passes in complete over the head of Dez Bryant, who wanted pass interference. Levi a. Wallace was it on the coverage. By the way, we've just been told Mark Jackson is been ruled out of this game with a concussion. So if they are to come back, and they're gonna go for it here on fourth and eight down, 17 3. 6 42 to play in the fourth quarter. If they're going to come back, they're gonna come back with a rookie undrafted free agent Tyler Huntley out of Utah. By the way, I think Dez Bryant had a good case. I do, too. I think Levi Walsh was hanging on him, but they should go to Palin flat Justice Hill in the game in the backfield Bills showing blitz again. Off the play. Fake drops back to pass throws to the near side has grounded the overthrow of Brown was open by about three or four strides again. He was with the wind. It went over his head by about three or four yards, and we've seen it on both ends tonight and the bills will take over on downs. I cannot believe that the Buffalo bills Allowed Hollywood Brown to get seven yards behind them. That should have been a touchdown. Holy cow 6 36 to play in the fourth quarter. The Bill 17 Ravens three. You're listening to the NFL playoffs on Westwood one. You ever feel like you're great stuff is going.

It will be a virtual will not have a lot of people in the church, but we will have the Boca lists and the instrumentalist. And I took part in the rehearsal last week, and I'm impressed. There is some really fine musical talent in our congregation, and they're going to be performing. As you said the hope comfort enjoy for Christmas. So yes, that will be Saturday. And that's ah streaming on the church's website, right if you're right, Yeah. And it's a Zay said. I can't get over the musical talent that we do have Locally in our congregation and in every other church congregation. You know, for years we have done a Christmas show for our syndicated television show. And we've gone to country churches throughout the Midwest who had taped the programs with the church choirs and the message of Christmas and so I'm looking forward to Something a little bit different this year, but I sat in on the rear so last Saturday, and as I say it was very good. A number of people have been calling us texting us e mailing us about you or Ian. And it's interesting that in addition to hearing from the farm community, we're hearing from a lot of folks who just enjoyed AH lot of Well, shall we say the silliness Over the years that you participated in hogs and frogs on duh, Foreign born? That's right. Somebody sent us an email here, Thomas wrote. Organ has done so many good things over the years, but there is a humorous side, too. Oh, he used to display this with the other Spike or Steve. On Dorian would summarize the soaps for the week and humorous and somewhat risque manner. And I don't know what that was. I'm not sure but that was your soap opera review. Was that it? Yeah, I would do. Ah, once in the wild, Not every time, But every once in a while, I would do way review of what was going on and Some of the soap operas on radio because you know, back in the olden days. The soap operas were big listening well, W GM because we were a mutual station. But the networks as well had, and I guess they still do on television. But I don't want email from Linda and John Volker. Hi, Orient. Even though you don't know me. You are my friend for 60 years I have listened to you. My family farmed in Big Rock Township and my father owned the Lauren Davis Stockyards and Elburn. No one can replace you..

Chandler buddy. it's been great talking to you man absolutely i hope it didn't ramble to know graphic. It was good no idea. We like these just kind of low key. you know. Talk sessions and try to figure out who you are you know. I've enjoyed know. I don't really do too much of these to be honest ever. Actually this might be the first radio. Show podcast. I've ever been killed at man come back. Yeah let me know. i'll be here. He lives down the street so yeah like two minutes away from the cold. It's funny i can make it. You wanna play a couple more tunes and we'll call her sweet. Got to think about what play here. Well speaking to my good friend marseillaise. Carol is a tune me and her wrote gather When i was bumming on her couch for two weeks when it didn't have a place to live back in january Very nice to let me stay there. We've got a song out of it though. So this one's called think going to your own tune but i read this one with her here and she sings harmony on. She makes it sound ten times better. "More important than ever right now. Yeah it's a great unifier and it's tough. It sucks that that's been one of the hardest hit industries in this entire thing. Yeah Hopefully hopefully comes back. Yeah yeah. I mean never. Every morning on our show will highlight any new business. Any new funding opportunities for musicians like around the us just like. Hey you know the other week we heard main was releasing a state fund for live music to kind of come back and start paying artists again and Bullock i think he signed something for artists to get a little entertainment fund again our budget. So i mean it's it's their people realize that it's definitely been missing and it brings people yet brings people in different establishments there get. It gives them business. It's a it's a win win. You know you're providing for the culture of your total immunity and you're you know you're helping the economy out connor percent though. I don't know yeah it's it's really cool and it's sad to see like a lot of the bigger cities. Like austin and nashville. I think has been hit bad a lot of these big garage that have been there forever at various of hemorrhaging money at this point and and they're having a shutdown and i think austin and asheville there very very gentrified. Now they're changing places You know to be honest. You could with this scene up here. You could see a lot some of those people. It's a different. You know weather wise and stuff like that and how big the city is know big. Big boseman is it's a lot different from nashville. And also of course but you could definitely see a lot of people to move in this area. They're big scene. In boise idaho to and you can kind of see that. Boseman boise scene. I guess connect in a tour leg. Yeah so. I don't know it'll be interesting to see. You know what it's like in the coming years but there could be the next big music spot or what do you got going on in the coming years food l. The people where where do you got coming up. Yeah they can come. Check you out here. I'll be I'll be at sage lodge Down prey near emigrant there on thursday residency there And then i will be at in. How wisdom montana. On friday toe. Yeah at the antler saloon. Check that out. That's in back to back. Yeah oh back. Yeah back to back and then i got. I got saturday off so probably go find live music off. Always i love just being able to sit down somewhere in a bar and listen to have year low playing. Don't like saturday this past saturday. Didn't have gig. And i got to go see that a an and another guy who's great. He lives out in red. Lodge is named daniel cosell amazing singer songwriter. Been doing this for for years. Plays a lot in this area I got to sit there and enjoy watching them. Play and get to hear what else is out there absolutely. Yeah kind of hear what people are doing and how they're kind of taking the scene you know making their own. I mean it's crazy. We've heard we. We recently did like an artist mission where we just kind of fanned out on facebook and just said hey you know if you've got stuff we'd love to hear it and i mean just vast amount of john lewis differences and some of it was like this is from montana what you know what i mean and it's crazy like somewhere hip hop somewhere wrapped we're meddlesome we're folks somewhere. You know bluegrass kind of what austin. Wow yeah it's crazy austin's never always just just been this country seen it's man. Yeah it's it's hip like I think Leon bridges right hurt. His lovely bridge got a key. Part in the austin scene there it might be fort worth but texas jenner. Arriving i mean he is he you know and of course. He's huge now. Yeah and he's not country Act so yeah. That's really cool. To see there are so. I mean such diverse culture in that respect for the for the music scenes and tell us what makes it what it is absolutely. Are you do on the buckhorn sessions. I am actually. Yeah when his own you plan so doing the bug. It's going to be november seventh. I want to say. I got that right. But it's gonna be me and marseillaise carol if you guys have her You should definitely get here on the show for one thing. She is an amazing singer songwriter. We've written Assam together that play and Her husband is carol. Mazing guitar player lead guitar. He'll be playing lead guitar and then dangerous l. We'll just mentioned. He played on saturday us for gonna be. Does he live here in town. Daniel daniel lives in red lodge but the last like i feel like the last five weeks. He's been in this area for music. You know playing gigs. Or just watching gigs. You know he likes hanging out around here. Lots of toys you know. He's always in town but yet daniel he you know he he's. He's he's a great guy very talented. Like i said he's been doing this for years and he's he's going to be more like your blues Like stevie ray. Vaughan light man wants what i would love if i can find a blues player to get on for a little bit the therapy so sick absolutely. Oh my god he is he is. I love me some blues. Yeah i had never heard of steve on until started following john mayer. That's what i think. That's what's important. He's got a little stevie ray. Vaughan video absolute. Oh yeah he was. That was a good correlation. Yeah to go. You can hear it in his voice when he gets to those like. Yeah there's definitely a lot that's interested in making their you know you wouldn't think about it but yeah it's it's funny but but yeah. Yeah dan daniel he is. He is quite a talented talented guy. that's cool. How'd you get into that that buckhorn. What's how'd you get into that. The who invited you. So i think i want to say that eighties. I want to say they reached out to her. And then i think maybe she kinda invited us along. I want to say. But i know amanda stewart did it a few weeks back Her was a sweet no was found street. I think she did it with fountain street right. Yeah i thought so. I wanna say and so there might have been. I think it could've just been like they asked her. And and you know You know who else will be good for the sessions and she kind of reached out. But that's one thing that's really cool about. This community is like yeah. You play a gig somewhere. You enjoy it. You want your friends to play it. You give your friends their contact or give the contact and yeah. It's a very help. Help help me help you. Type of community exactly and there's like new restaurants and bars opened up all the time breweries all the time and they have no idea about anything about the music scene you know and they start with one. They go to an open mic night or something they start with one person. And then it's domino and everybody's ever met this museum. They're just the nicest people. And yeah.

"Carry on that. Songwriting torching away. I was gonna say what you want to do with your career. You want to play and that. I'd like to do music as fool a fulltime career. You know Eventually Ever since cova hit of course it's been you know definitely more challenging to get more gigs. But i mean it's been better than i thought it was going to be. I thought it was just gonna be no music at all but you know there's a way to play certain places and have like wild ride the other night i think with with map right over there. Well no that was me you were. You're young. I was just sitting up from her there. Well you didn't. I thought oh that's awesome. I didn't like put it together until you look back because shower out the show. I did and i looked looked over. And yeah okay. I didn't realize from like the backside. And then i had to leave. Kevin knows people. That's one thing if you see him out you'll like he's the one you'll always see out. I'm the guy behind the scenes. And i do the like you now. I'm more introverted. He's the guy that's out and meeting the people ledger peyton and i have the most. I have the most regular face. You will never notice me in the crowd. You'll be like there's one white dude bro. That's awesome so where's the coolest place that you feel like. You've played around your hands down the old saloon down immigrant. Just that there's a lot of characters down there as you agean and it's of course of venue. Nothing like anything that happens in south carolina. The new it's so new to me and I think the history there the just the people there the community there. They're all just so supportive and they like their good music. You know play in small towns. Like i mentioned like play like shared in montana few weeks ago and then i'm playing in wisdom montana on friday night i've never been to. I've never even heard of that. I've heard of it. Isn't that almost out toward the line. Idaho okay sounds like two and a half hours. There could be a wisdom. The other wonder which you get to the wrong line. The other was wisdom east west. They have a football ralph. Where every year the to was they had their five too bad joke. I'm sorry Us when was your first gig. Because you said you didn't start playing out. Yeah so man. I didn't even. I played open. Mike at the spoke at big sky was my first. That was my first time like really getting comfortable playing in front of people. And there's a guy who ran the open mic nyse names Everybody calls him hoppy. Nicest guy great musician as well. Great songwriter is names jake. Everybody calls him hopping. I remember getting up there. It was like tuesday nights. It'd be a late start at like ten o'clock so you know for tuesday night be like but it be so fun you know and i just kept i loved it kept doing it and and kept out and then i didn't have my first. My very first gig would have been an when i was working at. I worked guest ranch in paradise valley. I was kind of quantum at every the old saloon community the immigrant community down there. And i a buddy that ran an open mic night livingston at the medicine bar grill. Livingston has cleo cleo toll also great musician grazing songwriter. He's from he's from here or he's i think he's from oregon but he's lived here for a while but he ran that of mike night i would go there religiously one summer every monday night and that was another light when it goes into like one yes but again so fun and he had a gig at the mid one night and he's like hey i can't play this gig and you can you fill in for me. I'm like yeah sure man. Totally and mike. I don't really know what i'm doing guys got a pa system and all that and He's like yeah man that will out. I'm like all right here. Goes nothing in the. After that i was like man i i enjoyed that and then it was played on that little porch area. They to win. You know kinda unplugged and Just kind of trying to build a stage presence. Get comfortable and not be back home. If i ever played any open mic nights which i did maybe like once or twice i be shaken. You know and it'd be like a coffee shop when like where it'd be like really quiet. So everybody's focused on you. You could hear a pin drop. There really wasn't like the open. Mics were the real lake gateway into building that comfort. Because it's far enough. People are chitchat and some people watching some people aren't and it's not as not as anxious i saw as intimately there. Yeah so why not. Let me ask you this. Why not nashville or not. Yeah manso or somewhere. Around there nashville. Allston are definitely like in the scene of music. I would say those are the top you know cities of course huge cities and ruin like crazy which boseman is too. I think when you move to a place like that and for me not having any experience or anything in the music world nine planet. Gigs moved to nashville. You are. You're a small fish upon austin too. Sure yeah that makes sense. Yeah and but out here. I feel like a lot of a lot of those texas artist. From austin and nashville. Come through here. They tore through here. So you can kind of build a connection between those people that come through here if ever were to go to nashville or austin or somewhere like that. I already know somebody there who can kind of like a foot in the door and so kind of doing it in that And that approach. I guess But i don't know man. I mean the the music scene is really like it's it's growing here a law I got a buddy and missoula he. Lissouba was named jackson holte. And he's got a band called the highway patrol. They're probably one of my favorite bands. Ever heard i mean. I i i do enjoy their music. And he's a great writer but in a hint he's part of this more americana folk country scene you know but I think a lot of the gigs. From what i understand in that room and that scene are kind of going away from zuolin he come when you know normally year outside of covert. He'd come and play in this area. A lot more like livingston bozeman at safi had to drive from missoula in because You know. I think it's just it's kinda different scene you'd think the bigger city you know Of mizulina would have more of those gigs like that. But i think it's think it's somewhat kind of from what i hear declining there and growing here but i mean i could be wrong. I never really. I've never lived in missoula. I don't know exactly what's going on there but the housing market. There's it's taken off. That's whatever and there's a lot of places that they've kind of taken from the industrial side of town and just made these really high end kind of places that they're doing here. Basically yeah. I mean not as fast and i don't think they're going out of style quite as much but Yeah still still. Kind of the same thing. I think over there and Definitely southern missoula and northern up towards callas bells those little towns all the way up there blowing up. So i think the entire western. Yeah of montana's is everybody wants a piece of that. Divide i mean you know. I get it i get it jurists of some of this novas. Change some people's mind. Well it's kind of the winter and we'll see if levels out a little bit. We need like two months of negative twenty being from south carolina and ever experienced winter. Like this you know. Of course. I'm kind of i'm kind of surprised. It hasn't really hasn't really affected me too much. You know. I mean i enjoy it because it's so different from where i grew up. I guess i don't mind it so you ski a lot. Actually don't really anymore. I'm probably going to hell right. That's why i came up. I was gonna say wasn't that. I'm probably gonna probably gonna get out there little more than i have been winter. You know just. Because i am. I tough this year just with all the big resorts and yeah you have to like today ahead or whatever that's interesting. Yeah but but yeah. I don't know i. I might get out there. And there's a lot of risk involved as well as i'm not a good skier of course and so fall and break my arm. I'm out of laying music for a while. So if i fall break my leg and not. Mar moneymaker yeah. Yeah there's things like you know the the risk involved. I mean it is fun. I i do enjoy it and you know. I enjoyed working on a big sky. You get you get the free look pass. And it's not it's it's a good. It's a good employee. Community there to be. No there's working the front desk. You definitely see all personality types of folks go. I bet you know. But yeah the the employees Kinda keep him more grounded there and keep his saying because they're you know the them think the same as use like sure they're in the same and head space but yeah you're all the same thing together. Yeah it's it's not the same people and so there's a lot of connections to be made there totally better really kinda helps you out when you're going into like i didn't know anybody out here when i came out here and having those people that are just like down earth and level it. You know Would you do specific there. I just worked at the hotel front desk. He's guy yeah. Okay yeah just did that. For a couple of winter seasons work together and for a couple of seasons down ohka emigrant and then got a job at a bank in january and then now i'm working at gibson factory building guitars over. They're trying to screw anything up. Too bad huntley original gibson huntley told him that interview but they didn't. They didn't by next week. After i was kidding about that. Blueprints is kind of funny. Been playing more appointed martin for a long time martin and their martin's or they're kinda rivals in a way so yeah okay got people telling me you've gone. He got into the dark side. I mean they're both they're both great guitars both have great histories making guitars and man. You know i've never. I've never really done any woodworking or anything like that or working in factoria just seeing how tedious of a job. That is how to each little like you know. Part of making guitar is like i'm currently so i'm glue in the tops together. Currently is what they have me do. And okay before. They're just like right off the one of the first steps of the process and then putting these guys They call it. The rosette the circle around the sound hole. Yeah which. I didn't know it's actually two giant sticker isn't it what's that giant sticker isn't just he'll slap it on pill cheaper sorry stugotz. It's actually a plastic piece that you goo- in there. No kidding you have these plastic slats. Yeah and you turn to the side and you cut them up into strip small strips like this and you actually put them on their side and you put them in that pattern. Whatever the sound hole pattern and you just glued it right in there. That's crazy now. I've been trying to learn to do that. And it's so. It was like the the woods engraved like. It's not just laying it on top of it would write your machine that puts a little bit. Okay circle divet. Wow we're those go and then you go back in there and fill it with exact design alexander plastic smoothie down access for plastic. And and then you put a coat over it. Yeah yeah i think. That's you know what i don't know too much. What happens after..

"From zeba. Way prayed up to the good load big forgiven man in lowest his sins washed away now mom. She crossed joe biden on a rainy day muddy flooded about one if he'd had his home place klom float away his mama hollers dan from on a thirteen or fourteen. My older brothers When i was a kid. I grew up listening to them play. They never really played any gigs. Or anything you know out anywhere. But know i figured out since they did. I guess i figured i'd give shop shot at two and and just kind of kept at it. I guess what was that was that where was i'm from south carolina original. Oh nice so so. Yeah from florence south carolina. That's about an hour west of myrtle beach or two hours north of charleston south carolina. If you've ever been down there some beautiful places there You know it was fun. Go into visiting towns down there and everything and and you know as a kid you know basically a i decided to move up here. Never actually skied before. Never learn never learned to ski as a kid never went skiing ever and i moved out here. I got a job. Working at big sky ski resort. And where did you do for them. Actually worked The front desk at the huntley law. Really you know so. I just got regular front desk job. Wanted to never had seen the rockies before you know and and came out here and and just loved it man I remember my first season season at big sky. Worked to their first season. I went to my first. I guess real like music experience out here was like when i kind of discovered like man's this is cool. Scene was was big sky. Big grass down in big sky. Big bluegrass festival. Having you know guns for that one and You know some some some local wax will play laney. Lindbergh dogs play. And and you know couple months into me moving up here. I remember going to one of those shows. I think it was billy strings and i met Who's one of my buddies now. Haven't seen her but Taylor birla ge he's he was a part of the suite. Sage ban with amanda stewart and he was like the first person i kinda like in the scene. Did he move. he is. I think he fought. I think he's been fighting wildfires down in colorado this summer and i think he's just gotten back but i need to hit him up. Sin taylor if you're listening to this together do some and man but there. Your band retail had them over for like a kind of at home concert deal that we live streamed and they were good. Yeah they're good people to average garrett amanda and taylor and You know i. I definitely a definitely hope. They put together some show soon. I think tomba everything. The fan that was one of the last shows went to murray bar. and then it was sweet sage. I think they're now's a fun night. But then i think the next week or the week after it was like that's one every. Yeah wow yeah but yeah great people. That's crazy. And yeah. When i met taylor and you can just hit it off talking about music and stuff and i was like man. You know this. You know these artists that i like to you know you're around my age and like you don't really see that as much air back home where i'm from in south carolina. At least the people. I knew grew up. Grown up so yeah. There's kind of a niche or a niche songwriter. Kind of cult following here of people that really like that folk vein of artist very much. So and i think it does really well here in terms of writing music and performing also especially in different towns rather other than bozeman as well Do you perform anywhere else. Other than bozeman area do you get out mostly between here in paradise valley okay but recently this year have been getting out to more like smaller towns smaller gigs. You know like You know towns that. I've never heard of like you know a play the other week and Sheridan montana montana. I never been there. It's out by guess is by you. Go south in your twin bridges out there. A lot of towns that are named after famous towns manhattan hamster. Funny it is funny. Yeah there's some there's some funky town named down south to as you can imagine and south carolina. There's some there's some it's the weirdest one you remember. Oh man oh man. Well there's like some are like you know like that are named like address biblical towns like bethlehem and like and stuff like that interesting. I mean there's a lot of you know International you know town names to. I guess yeah kind of religious town. Yeah over yeah very much. That's awesome so what's the biggest difference between down there and up here. I guess i'll cash friday. I mean the culture is certainly a lot different. You know Down south. It's it's it's a it's a lot. It's a lot of church and about las churches lot of football. Yeah i mean you know. People are big football fans here downs. Downs out it's pretty much related. Yeah yeah it's a everybody's got a team down. There got basically you totally lot. Lots of trash talking going on. Yeah in schools are football teams or clemson in south carolina gamecocks. Yeah and they're like their rivals but clemson. They've had a really good football team. The last few years. And i've always felt the the the game fans are always more knowing than the clemson vans got glimpse stepped up their game. It's fun it's never really been into football or watching or anything but you know if there's trash begun don't even care about only a dog responding when it's not you exactly tell them get back shots fired on you were. What were you into as a care. Then in south carolina man in a mostly as like a really really young kid i was i was into i. I remember being into basketball. Actually you know a lot you know. It was never really good or anything. But you know i was a big fan of michael jordan also as in what space jam cam and everybody's a fan koby bryant feeling ill. Basketball jones soundtrack was far. Yeah i think it's mostly because my older brothers played basketball. I kinda go to games. I don't think i got into it with that. You know and then. I guess it wasn't until about house about thirteen or fourteen. You know kinda paying attention music a little more you know for that. I probably just listened to whatever's on pop radio at the time Sean kingston and what. Now all those golden.

"Well, I agree with you and I think those eyes I said, she didn't see it that way, but I think that was an easy plug for people to to do in in season one and I feel like you're right. It's like the evolution of I mean to be honest. I've always seen the osbornes offered more along the lines of of X-Men Patrick Stewart in X-Men. Yeah, and I could see that and I feel like the sort of Savvy a character is is Jose altimate Lee he's being put through his Paces which you don't expect and see someone you kind of go. Okay, we got the world and this guy's the kind of the guy who's who's carrying the burden of something. We're not quite sure what wage He's within the institution and I think what's great about having taken Osborne out of the institution or have him for whatever reason be alienated from the various institutions. He was part of is that it allows him to now be essentially neutral. He hasn't got attachment to what it is. He's supporting so he's the ultimate truth Seeker in a way and that should not be in line with Jax's journey. And I think it's also in line with the evolution then of of Xander and RaeLynn and and the other characters that are being developed through through off-season too, you know, zazie and jet and and the other guys so I think there's a we've seen peponi like Heavenly went off to a dark and then we don't see anything more of perineum. We don't see them and yet there's clearly a race there and a and a philosophy that that's already rooted in the in the world that's being created. So I feel like Mark kind of creates wage. These Easter eggs with in this world as he unfolds it and there's at any opportunity we could go and draw those together. I sort of marks alluded to but he won't give it to me cuz he's knows I tell you and anyone else but you know, I feel like those strands have been planted intentionally and and that as we go forward into season 3 which you know, people are talking about optimistically for next year if we go forward and two season 3, then those strands get get drawn together. And and yeah, I'm excited to see that. I I yeah, I feel like I feel that Rebel Alliance something that we've talked about that to me feels in line with what's happening is we've cuz there's still the Donovan's under Renee's ship didn't get explored. It's helped or tall in season to really and there was a there was a little bit of remorse I think for misunderstanding that may may have been there as residual from season one dog. I think there's this great care benevolence from Osborne to the zombie character and there's and are really gets his stripes and holds his authority through season two and then my question is so where does that then go after that like Osbournes be taking him to the place. He needs to be stepped back when he's had to step back even though he's reluctant to for various reasons, but now what happens like everyone's with the stripes and he's done it without going you owe me back. He's he's done it with in both cases as he's removed from the institution. It's like, okay, you should only everything cuz I give him myself to this off this in these institutions within this world, but I can step away if I have to and and go, you know, put the energy back into the roots and then from there decide whether to grow and so yeah. Anyway, I'm I'm talking like an actor whose talk about all the kind of work that goes into why am I making the decisions? I'm making I just hope people are going to enjoy season 2 it ice cream. Explosives and three..

"It's like you really I've seen a lot of bad shows in my lifetime believe me and and suffered through them the thing that I like about this and why I just refused to throw it under the bus is that Mark has such a complex Universe once the pieces kind of fit and I think you're still in that discovery mode. But once things click into place then you then you have a successful series at everybody's going to get on board and it is just you see the pieces there and the in the actors the right fighting in India affects everything and once it all clicks people forget that Star Trek the Next Generation didn't click until its third season. So often times it takes to show a while before. Yeah, I agree with you. I mean, it's weird. I think Mark's these things in slightly different ways and sometimes that's really frustrating and sometimes that's just awful. And you know, I was looking at episode one and kind of going. Okay. So here we are on the Press bit Chris Milan colony and it seems like what they sell in the bazaars on it. Chris is cushions Eastern European cushions and it was really frustrating but I remember watching Children of Men. I think it was a poorer who did Children of Men and I remember he it was trying to it's taking sci-fi instead of saying we need lots of effects to create the future. He just created The Surreal by having things like a camel walk past in the back of a a war zone shot. Yeah, and I guess it could have been released from Iraq have a zoo or it could have been just some bizarre thing that happened in the future where camels like cows in India or suddenly revered creatures, but it allowed you to go. Well. This isn't the world. I know that's that's too strange and image for me too for it to sit to sit comfortably and I think that's something to do with the way Mark perceives things as well some things you look at and go over last month. That that really that really lets The Showdown but then you go but the world has swelled and expand it all around it and the interactions and the the refinement of those interactions has grown and like you I find myself going. Yeah, I could see reasons to write off the show and say, oh it's it's lacking this and it's lacking that and it's obviously using assets that are available and things and I think there is a dog is a remix, you know, we started with nothing with no pilot and and the CW as you know has a form, you know, often formulaic take in terms of its superhero Universe has an hour of us and the things that's developed have kind of their fairly standard and this this isn't following any any standard and from that point of view. It really can go anywhere from that point of view. I think it also has to focus and galvanized because we started in the academy and it was kind of Harry Harry Potter in space and now it's become Star Trek and missions in space and I think those thoughts Need to coalesce and marks assured me that that's exactly what's happening.

"It was it was a thing. I was it was an audible book. I was listening to and it said I'd always been in the crowd but never part of the crowd. I've never walked amongst the crowd and I love the imagery that comes conjured up and I sort of feel like it's probably relevant to what you're saying. It's it's like you're you're in plain sight but no one would ever know who you are, you know, the focus is incidental and that's always I think what you're trying to create with these operatives is that they're they're or they're all around then that they could be anyone and everyone but they're in it but not of it and that again I think is part of the kind of Raelynn Osborne experience in their lives is dead. That in it, but then all of it. I mean, I think that's a I think it's a massive part of the show generally is that we're dealing with alienation and being outcasts and what I'm what I'm loving seeing comes through is that correct ones going through their own kind of testing ground individually and certainly in season two. What I really want to see is where does that go through? You got it down which which probably got to be a little frustrating. I want to tap your brain on. This is that Jax is finally kind of on the road to embracing her Destiny a bit wage and yet now Osborne is been disconnected from that. So that's going to be a source of frustration for him a little bit. Yeah. It's I I wish I had a clearer idea of what the what the bigger picture was that it's leading to I have to kind of defer to mark on on a lot of that and that is really frustrating as an actor and and as a character and so yep. Been it's been great to draw on that and make that part of Osbourne. Who as you say everything is a move and a strategy and information is everything you're now you've now got Osborne having to basically go blind. I mean, he's he's sort of feels like King Lear at that point in King Lear where he's he's staggering around blind a man of this awesome Authority suddenly having to showing that vulnerability and when I being vulnerable and being dependent, you know fundamentally Jack's realizes that know, although she is a complete individual and no one can do what she does. It takes the people around her and this common Bond of care and love and support these fundamental human qualities for her to be the the the best that she can be and I think that's part of the sort of optimistic sort of young adult nature of the show is that that that is part of the the thrust through through things and, New Jersey. As we become disconnected disconnected, we realize that we are actually more connected rather than less and I think that's you know, I think that's I don't know whether it was consciously done, but I think it's a really relevant thing for the times that we're in a moment as well that you know during covid-19. I.
