Where you're going to ten times because if you look at the companies that get into startup phase and then. They grow really quickly. They're not offering. One hundred products are one hundred services or hundred programs. Oftentimes they're offering one they might have two or three levels of that one. "Because i imagine for some of these like you mentioned the ap things or some of these other things it might take a bit of lead time to actually get your ducks in a row as they say so. What's the timeline that you recommend to people in an ideal world Two years ahead two years ago. That said i have had seniors in high school. Find me you know. Three months before. Graduating and i can still work with that. There are only three hundred fifty of the nineteen hundred programs that have these extra requirements. So even if you can't plan for that they're still even more options. I imagine if you're flexible like with where you can go and what you're gonna do then. Of course you have more options right absolutely. Is it hard to deal with the parents. They're kind of a few different types of members we get we get go. I love how you're going into this You know sort of politically correct speaking right. These are these types of customers that we get on. Tell us how it is jen. Some members and students who are both like totally on board and they're like just tell me how to do it. You know we're ready. We get some who cannot let go of the american frame of reference. And i get that. I have been in the american system to and it's really just kinda highschool counters like. I went and do that. Because they don't know about the options and they shouldn't have to. They have enough on their plates. It's just fear of the unknown of so they'll come in and they'll be like well you know. Don't we need to do blah blah blah blah blah. And like no. You really don't have to you. Know they just can't let go of correlating selectivity with quality. There's no correlation there. I'm talking about top. One hundred globally ranked universities for. It's easy to get in. You know it's just different then. We'll get some ah parents who are on board. But they haven't kind of their kids. Aren't you know their kids. Want the american experience. They want the tailgating. They want the greek system. They want the social american experience. Which i mean honestly as a parent. I'd have trouble paying for just you know. Hey let me throw a big party for ya instead this much less than fifty grand a year and then we get some students who have to talk their parents into it as well so we do have a member private member facebook group which is great because we have people all different parts of the process. Some whose kids are about to graduate in europe. Some were just finding this and they're a great source of support for each other as well. What about the quality of education coming out. Of course that's going to be probably the biggest question most people have when they're going to school is like all right. What was this degree going to be seen as anything. That's good. yeah so that's interesting. And this is where deal with. The myth of american exceptionalism a lot ripe because so so basically these universities in europe global rankings are based only on research related criteria. So some people who are very used to like. Us news rankings. Where they look at know everything including the lawn care on the quad they think that global rankings are as all encompassing as as well so i need to go to a top ranked university and i say that does not have anything to do with your educational experiences as an undergraduate student so i really encourage students. These are all by the way every single university we list in every.

interview With Father Gregory Boyle of Homeboy Industries

"Hey everyone. Welcome to how. I built this resilience edition from npr on these episodes. We talk with entrepreneurs and change makers how they're meeting today's challenges with new strategies and ideas and today we're going to hear from father gregory boyle. He's the founder of homeboy industries. Father greg founded homeboy industries after years of serving as a jesuit priest and later as a pastor at dolores mission church in east. La forty saw the devastating effects of gang related violence on his community after operating for over thirty years. Homeboy industries has become one of the largest gang intervention rehabilitation and re entry programs in the world. About fifteen thousand folks year walk through our doors trying to reimagine their lives. We were begun in nineteen eight. Just end my paris. Which was the poorest in the city but had had the highest concentration of gang activity. We had eight gangs at war with each other and i started to bury kids. I buried my two hundred and eighty third last week. Not all from that community. Obviously but i know a lot of gang members. So i get asked and and so we just started. Things started to school than we started the jobs program trying to find felony friendly employers then that was not so forthcoming so we started businesses. A bakery was the first in ninety two and now we have nine social enterprises but also a program of healing you know. Sluggers tattoo removal. There's therapy case management classes. It's an amazing series of programs. And as you mentioned i mean things like tattoo removal or just helping people kind of reenter society after being gangs or being incarcerated obviously while it's changing many employers still reluctant to hire people with felony records and in response to that you create your own businesses aside from the bakery which is probably the best known because it has locations in los angeles tummy a little bit more about some of the other social enterprises that homeboy industries has launched so at our headquarters. We have homeboy bakery homegirl. Cafe and homeboy homegirl marchandise. And then we have the restaurant at the airport a city hall. We have homeboy diner. The only place to get food at city hall. We have a thing called homeboy grocery where we sell chips salsa and guacamole and a variety of grocery stores boy recycling which is recycling. You waste which quite an extensive of business and growing amboise silkscreen and embroidery. That's been around for twenty seven years. Lap boesky nine in there so That's a lot. that's a lot. I was telling you earlier before we went live that i saw you profile and sixty minutes in. I think in the late eighties early nineties and i grew up in in los angeles. You're such a legendary figure there. I'm you've been awarded the california peace prize. And i mean you're a priest at the end of the day like your priest you do. Mass obviously socially distant for people who are incarcerated. But you're also an entrepreneur. Did you consider yourself as an entrepreneur when you founded this organization. Do you think of yourself that way. Now why board would never sign on the notion that i know anything about business so i don't really see it that way but we're always responding if tattoos had become a an obstacle in gang members. One of them off. We started that even in terms of our businesses. They were kind of haphazard you. There was no business plan. There was an abandoned bakery across the street from our school. Our parochial school in a movie producer. Ray stark after the unrest in ninety two wanted to help and i said well okay. I don't know by this bakery. It has ovens they don't work. You could fix them. We could put hairnets on enemy rival gang members. Well that was the entirety of my business plan. So i think i think everything else kind of operated in the same way. There was a couple from the parish who wanted to start rodriguez silk screening. And i said well. Don't start homeboys screening in. So that's how that was born so you know it wasn't like go some big master plan and it was all kind of accidental. You know we have a thing called the global homeboy network. Which is you know. Three hundred programs in the country outside kind of modeled on methodology. You know they all want to start a social enterprise and they all want to do food. Which i always say don't but you know because food is hard. Yeah restaurants are really hard sex in us to a bakery cafe and it's hard to talk people out of this. But i was tell do silk screening. That's recession proof. Everybody wants a shirt their family reunion or they're five k. race. And they'll go with you even if it's more expensive because it's kind of the. Paul newman feel good. You know it's like yeah. It's cost more but it helps employees

All The Information You Need About Census 2020

"Today's episode. I, WanNa talk about something that's really important and something that maybe perhaps you didn't know about I have a lot of information about the twenty twenty cents is that is on a deadline of September thirtieth. So get those census forms in call the Census Bureau, or get the census online and fill out by September thirtieth. But now, right now, you can sit back and relax and enjoy this episode on the twenty twenty census. Okay. So let me start out by saying that the census is required by the constitution which calls for an actual enumeration once a decade and no Mauritian is the actual count one by one of the individuals in the United States will the first census after the American revolution was taken in Seventeen Ninety Under Secretary of State, Thomas Jefferson. But on the NPR website, it states that the federal government is trying to get every household to answer some personal questions and they are kind of personal for the twenty twenty census. It's part of a once a decade tradition of counting every person living in the united. States. The twenty thousand population number will shape how political power and federal tax dollars are shared in the US over the next ten years. Ten Years Think about that the data collected by the senses determines the number of seats. Each state has the US House of Representatives and it is used to distribute billions and federal funds to local communities. The more populated your state is the more representatives you'll have in the US House of Representatives so That is really important that you understand that and fill out the twenty twenty census because it does help your state locally and overall in April the twenty twenty cents is started mailing out forms to all US citizens in the hopes of finding out how best to spend federal and state money. Well, the twenty twenty cents is, is the first in the United States since the rise of social media and the first US count that's primarily online. Yes for the first time Americans can answer census questions over the phone and on the Internet as well as mailing in the form. But this is showing concern around the digital security and participation among communities that may not have easy access to the internet or computers such as the homeless population and those living in shelters, and for months, the government has been preparing to combat this information campaigns that may try to disrupt the count which rolled out not only in the middle of a presidential race. That's right. Here. But also during the coronavirus pandemic on March twentieth the announced it is extending the end of counting the census from July thirty first to August fourteenth, and now from August fourteenth until September thirtieth. So you have until September thirtieth to get those census questions answered will officials however say that the sooner households fill out a form on their own the fewer door Knockers or as they are called census takers, the Census Bureau will have to try to send out the demographic data are used by businesses to determine, for example, where to build new supermarkets and other needed structures and business establishments such as daycare, and even the need for school lunch programs and other daily essentials. Also, the results will show where communities need new schools new. New Roads and more services for families, older adults and children. The data will also inform the government. How hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding are allocated to more than one hundred programs, including Medicaid head start for community mental health services, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program also known as snap. Also may contribute to what kind of retail stores will do well in these areas that you live in how much tax money per town or county can be distributed to the Department of Transportation How many cars are in a particular area, which may determine the price of gas for that area.

Why You Should Fill Out Your 2020 Census Today

"Are Introducing this week is not me telling a story but it's actually A really important issue that we wanted to bring to your attention and to help me do that I have asian-american advancing justices. Demographic Research. Program director. That's a mouthful. June Lim, who's WHO's here to talk about the census. So thanks for being here to do this and for our listeners sake especially those who have yet to fill out the census, they have relatives who haven't filled it out. Why is this census of particular great concern for us. Right. Now, what we see is is a very unfortunate because what we have seen as the administration's attempt to politicize the census s suppress participation ultimately really to shift political representation away from places with large immigrant communities, such as the Asian, American and Native Hawaiian Civic Islander Communities and other communities of color, and Water considered hard to count communities. and what we really want people to know is that regardless of political affiliation or ethnicity everyone needs to be deeply troubled by these attempts to undermine and risk misrepresent data from the census. And the reason is, is that we have so much to lose if people do not participate in the census. Yeah. I mean some states can lose congressional seats I was also reading that there's over a billion dollars in federal funding to over one hundred programs for the next ten years, there's writing on census twenty twenty. It's actually one point five trillion dollars federal funding. Okay. Okay. Okay. I was little off on my decimal point. Wow So, this seems this seems June to fit right in line with our current president and his administration Zena phobic anti immigrant position on. So many policies. Yes. Unfortunately, there's been a lot of anti-immigrant sentiment and fear mongering. In Administration's policies and also like we're really seeing it. Affecting. People's participation in the census. And we understand that because of this for many immigrants both documented and undocumented, there are significant fears about participating in the census. But. We need everyone to know that the constitution mandates that every person living in the United States should be counted in the census regardless of Citizenship Status and that privacy is of utmost importance and that there are strict laws in place to make sure that information is kept confidential. So. That's really important to emphasize right that I think the trump administration is these seeds a fear that yeah. If you fill it out and you're undocumented in particular, like can come get you and that's completely not true. Exactly. There isn't even a question about citizenship status on the census or immigration on the senses. So there is no way using the census data that received from the twenty twenty cents is that that information could be received and regardless of that any information that is like that is received by the census. It doesn't actually leave the census it only can be. Used for statistical this tickle purposes and in like more of a like for statistical purposes in an aggregate form and never by an individual responses. And the Census Bureau They've done something to the due day to right I mean this this. This is one of the reasons why we're doing this special announcement here an encouragement for people to hurry up and fill it out. Can you talk a little bit about what's what's happened? Yeah sure and there's been some new happening since then as well it's it's that ultimately because of everything happening with the pandemic this Census Bureau had to pause some of its. So, the census deadline was actually Extended until October thirty first to make sure that there was enough time for for people to self respond. But also to make sure that the the non response follow up period, which is when enumerators go door to door to take the responses of people who have not yet completed the census can be done in a fair and thorough manner and also taking in mind safety However, that was shortened to be it was to be rushed than leader change to be moved up to. September. Thirtieth. however, right now, there actually was a I think it was A. Temporary. Almost like a restraining order against a restraining order. That's exactly. that. Judge actually did. Accept that. So it is right now there's there's they're actually having a hearing. To See. What the date is going to be, and for now, the Census Bureau has to continue with its operations as planned and that being not necessarily what the short deadline but we we see how that could cause some confusion in the in the community. So really what we want to do is to urge everyone to fill out the census to day job. Because I, it's like we're not sure what the deadline is now because of all the things that are happening because they're so much advocacy taking place for a community. To ensure that we can have an accurate dentists count and really pushing for the October thirty first line However, we don't we don't know if it's going to land there on September thirtieth. So really the messaging we want to put out to our communities is to complete the Senate today.

Numbers are available to Tripoli's exhibit three three seven hundred and some lines are open for you tonight. We'll be here your opinion on what we discussed here on this program. So most people. Love to hear fringe, topics. We like to play in the margins. They. They kind of have a hard time when someone tells them, well, everything is a causes because a c causes d. I have a hard time to think outside the box. I don't think too far outside of the box some people do and I'm going, okay. But. We're living in a twilight zone right now this the twilight zone, this is something like a broad surly related. I think he would have enjoyed knowing that a lot of what he had what he wrote back then. Amazingly coming to pass like the guys in black mirror. They're all laughing right now, you know, guys right black mirror. They're laughing. I'll look at this is happening where we wrote it. Like, they're controlling us. We're following down. We're probably their lead. See that's once again, the idea predicted program we talked last hour, but you know, we live in his twenties. Now, we're b- causes a and so on and so on it's useless. To over think things. It's it's useless to even you know, it's useless, even discredit things you got to open your mind more, and you can't be rigid camps such a rigid thinking process because it's just it's going to sideswipe the truth hits your when something goes awry, you go. Wow. How did everything runs through a mock? And why is it? I know nothing about it. Well, the reason why is because. We live in time. Where there are so many people begging for your tension. And whenever we see how history goes down ruthless. It is. You mentioned a lot of this stuff is like changing, and we put our faith in certain people to bring about the disclosure is someone that you feel isn't qualified to give you the information. You can dismiss them. And you say, no, I don't trust this guy. I'm sure there have been things I've said it may have not come to pass yet. Or maybe you think that they're just too outrageous, or they trample all over your little cognitive bias or whatever fine. Heard people all the time. I'm not listening to you anymore because you said fine. You don't have to tell the world you can just move on radio. Disney. Looks good over there. A bunch of other choices, you know, SpongeBob. Squarepants runs reruns at night. It's whatever you want. You know is fine. But. Tonight. I brought up something that it's something new that a lot of people that know about it's called Thomas theorem. You know, some people might not it is. But I just wanted to kind of tell you what that is a guy Bundy w I Thomas. He came up with this interesting theory. He said that if men define situations is real they are real in their consequences. So regardless of whether or not you're making a decision based on a hallucination a prophecy. Suddenly it hasn't happened yet. You either suffer or enjoy a good consequence from it? And that's what they call Thomas theorem. So here's idea was that an interpretation of situation causes the action. And so. Interpretations can be either objective or they can be subjective. But actions are affected by subjective. Perceptions or situations. There's even at objectively correctly and put your interpretation or is this not important. He'd say you're acting on what you believe. You're acting on. What you think what you believe you just kind of? Oh, this is why he thinks I'm an act this way, you know, you just happen to lean liberal. So you tend to hate everything that he would appears to be conservative. You know, that kind of thing that the politics of everything. Or, you know, most people have turned science into politics again with climate change. Well, if I'm against private jet. You must be Nazi. No. I'm not a Nazi. I just don't believe in pseudoscience all, but you just said it was suicides. When all of these guys have said that it's real. Yeah. I know, but they kinda like right there science, so they can get their grand just like Monsanto does, you know? You know, you just to see how it's played, you know, things. I mean, they had doctors that wrote that cigarettes were good for you back in the sixties and that wasn't right either. And we've gone through this before we talked about this a few days ago, and how this is all happening. So when you're looking at prophecies, you're looking at events and looking at fulfillment. Fulfillment of disclosure fulfillment of something that you would always believed in. It has to be given by someone that you believe is trustworthy enough to give you that information. Otherwise, you're just going to reject it completely. So the true fulfilling a prophecy is whether or not someone that you think is smart enough to declare it a fulfillment is the fulfillment. That means that will never be able to get an honest disclosure. I mean, not for UFO's operating because everybody I mean, once we find out the truth. Once a alliens are here. Everybody's gonna say, well, it's not the alien alien discussion that I wanna hear I wanna hear something else. I mean, even if they even alien was to land tomorrow. And it was right there. People go on that's fake, man. Look at that. That's an alien really. He looks it looks like one of us just one of those hard things to convince people. So there's always this skepticism. And as always fake news CGI crowd that they don't they don't want to believe that any supernatural moment is valid. They don't wanna believe anything faith-based is is moving through time. And so, you know, they don't allow for the probability's manifest or they refuse to believe the pop the probabilities are manifesting. So these things that people think believe existence, but only because they have faith or the someone told them they exist. And they never really experienced it. So either they say, well, I've never experienced it. So it doesn't affect me your I don't care or they wanna believe or they've had the experience, and they don't need faith for that experience. So if one is experiencing unexplainable events, and they have no evidence of the event happening to them. You know will say, well, you know, obviously didn't happen to you're making it up. But we have to also understand the absence of proof is not necessarily the proof of absence. And as I was saying last Sunday was watching the Walking Dead. I didn't know it was in my view because I guess played Sunday. And I wasn't really, you know, I'm kinda like invested in Alagoas invested in madman going. I can watch it or not. But I've seen enough of it. But I just said I was going to watch it, and I got to thinking about apocalypse movies, apocalypse, science fiction and all that. And I realized that a lot of what we see in science fiction dealing with the apocalypse is what comes after the Apocalypse Now the apocalypse happening. I mean, unless of course, the movie twenty twelve remember that film more the day after or eight other films. Yeah, they show you what it is leading up. But most of the time it's how you survive after an apocalyptic event. Whether it's a pandemic a nuclear explosion environmental disaster. It just fascinates all how do these people survive? What is it that they do? And so as I said, you know, you watch the Walking Dead, you realizing well zombies are pretty scary. But you know, the people are worse than zombies turning into monsters. And you know, they're they're killing each other. So what we see? Here's we see how these TV shows and books and movies, all focus on antisocial behaviors at how after disaster, humans will revert to some sort of base nature. And and this is how the apocalypse begins. But there seems to be a part of the apocalypse theorem that I talked about that I've talked about in the last hour, it's really not covered in that is the. When we sense that the end is near we revert to these behaviors before hand not afterwards because President Trump made a statement last year. You said the the country's in state of tremendous divisiveness, and I'm hoping that I can bring them together. Otherwise, we'll need a traumatic event happened is countries for people to come together again. So Trump said the United States is long been divided including during the impeachment. Former President Bill Clinton Trump also said that Americans usually come together during times of suffering. So then. It appears to be a sound theory that people sensing the end treat each other like crap and they make decisions it pushes closer to an apocalyptic event. And then when it's after we come together, right? Seems to be the case is what happened after nine eleven. We all came together. So. I guess you can think to yourself. And I, and I said is that you know, human beings are well aware that they can make their own monsters that can conjure their own beasts and they had their greatest intentions. They do it. They say, well, I'm doing this for the good of mankind. And you know, this decision is made. And they're saying, well, did you know that if there's a consequence with that consequence leads to this this this, and this may be that? And they don't think about it in the beginning. I know that we talked about before on this show. The idea of how there are people out there that are just pushing the envelope, and they're going down this this blueprint of this checklist of the apocalypse. So they're trying to bring forward the S guitar in some way. And I read that in the Catholic view of Christianity. This is blasphemy. You don't do this. You do not push God into coming down. You don't create wars. You do not. I mean, you don't do things that are that are going to start the ball rolling. You just let it happen in God's own way. You know, God does it and let him do it. It is on pace. And so, you know, the idea of starting an escalator starting me into the world. I think the watchman I don't know if you're familiar with that comic book, there was a character in that comic book that wanted to stage a nuclear disaster. It was in the movie, but in the in the congress was an alien invasion. And he said, you know, this'll bring people together we won't have to worry anymore. And it's it's a it's just a good thing to bring people together. And we bring people together that we peace on the planet. If we bring people together in a global world order, there'll be so much peace on the planet. Imagine there's no heaven. You know, like I was talking about the other day. What are you querying conspiracy?.
