"Caesar's. <Silence> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <SpeakerChange> Give <Speech_Male> me the points. <Silence> <Silence> Lobos. <Silence> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> I will ride with you on this. <Silence> I actually <Speech_Male> won't get to see this game. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Your boy is going <Speech_Male> to see umphrey's <Speech_Male> McGee at the capitol <Speech_Music_Male> theater. <Speech_Music_Male> Hell yeah, very <Speech_Male> excited for that 25th <Speech_Male> year. You haven't heard of <Speech_Male> unprecedented song in your <Speech_Male> entire life happy parish. <Speech_Male> You don't even have to <Speech_Male> make it. You have not <Speech_Male> heard enough freeze McGee song. <Speech_Male> I know humphreys McGee. <Speech_Male> McGee. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> I've got, <Speech_Male> I've got friends <SpeakerChange> who are all <Speech_Male> into that scene, you know? <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Male> Tremendous <SpeakerChange> band. <Speech_Male> At one of the most talented <Speech_Male> bands out there. So I'm very <Speech_Male> excited. I get to go see him at <Speech_Music_Male> the cap. <Speech_Music_Male> Capital theory. <Speech_Male> I'm actually going to go, I'm just <Speech_Male> going to show you, <Speech_Male> where's <Speech_Male> the capital creator? <Speech_Male> Is that near <SpeakerChange> Yale? <Speech_Male> No, <Speech_Male> it's actually over state lines. It's <Speech_Male> a New York. It's in portchester. <Speech_Male> Portchester, <Speech_Male> New York. <Speech_Male> But <Speech_Male> shouts to <Speech_Music_Male> the band there. <Speech_Male> And kind enough <Speech_Male> to afford <Speech_Male> me a ticket tonight. So I'm <Speech_Male> just going to go solo last time <Speech_Music_Male> you went. <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Male> Last time you looked solo <Speech_Male> to a show. <Speech_Male> Last time <Speech_Music_Male> I there. <Speech_Male> Last time <Speech_Music_Male> I went solo <Speech_Music_Male> to <SpeakerChange> a show. <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Male> No recollection. <Speech_Music_Male> Really? <Speech_Male> Yeah, I can't even <Speech_Music_Male> think of can't <Speech_Male> even think of one. <SpeakerChange> Get a good <Speech_Male> time. <Speech_Male> I love going <Speech_Male> with folks, but it's every so <Speech_Male> often go solo <Speech_Male> to a concert, I actually think it's <Speech_Male> a well, <SpeakerChange> that's the thing. That's <Speech_Male> the thing about me. I got friends <Speech_Male> and stuff. So I <Speech_Music_Male> usually just go <SpeakerChange> with them. <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> Me <Speech_Male> too. But you can <Speech_Male> mix it up. You <Speech_Male> can mix it up if you want. <Speech_Male> So <Speech_Male> I'm going to miss this bad boy, <Speech_Male> although maybe <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> hustle back, it's <Speech_Male> 11 eastern tip. <Speech_Male> Fox Sports one. This is <Speech_Male> a late one. Tyson dagenhart <Speech_Male> Marcus shaver, each averaging <Speech_Male> 13.1 <Speech_Male> a piece for <Speech_Male> the Broncos who have four <Speech_Male> players averaging <Speech_Male> 12 or 13 <Speech_Male> per game. Yeah, <Speech_Male> Boise is 11th in <Speech_Male> defense of efficiency. <Speech_Male> This is the best <Speech_Male> team that Leon rice <Speech_Male> has ever had from a defensive <Speech_Male> standpoint. <Speech_Male> And <Speech_Male> this allowing 60.6 <Speech_Male> points <Speech_Male> per game. <Silence> <Speech_Male> JP's <Speech_Male> got in his top 25 and won, <Speech_Male> but boys state has been, <Speech_Male> I get why, but <Speech_Male> they've been off the radar. Like they're <Speech_Male> off the radar major. <Speech_Male> And frankly, <Speech_Male> a Friday night game at 11 <Speech_Male> easterns are going to exactly <Speech_Male> help matters, but <Speech_Male> as I detailed <Speech_Male> in my power rankings on Thursday, <Speech_Male> the mountain west, <Speech_Male> it's got 5 <Speech_Male> teams in the top 35 <Speech_Male> of the net. It's having <Speech_Male> really one of the two or three best <Speech_Male> seasons it's ever had. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> But it went <Speech_Male> zero for four in the NCAA <Speech_Male> tournament last season <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> if it gets three teams in <Speech_Male> the tournament or four teams <Speech_Male> again, that's great, <Speech_Male> but you have to win games <Speech_Male> once we get there. It's just <Speech_Male> the average <Speech_Male> the average fan. <Speech_Male> They're just not going to be <Speech_Male> getting respect because they also don't <Speech_Male> have a team that's going to get <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> a one two or three <Speech_Male> C probably not even a <Speech_Male> four seat. Ultimately, <Speech_Male> you might have three teams that <Speech_Male> get in, Colorado <Speech_Male> state last year was the highest seat <Speech_Male> of team. I think it was on the 6th <Speech_Male> line. So <Speech_Male> we'll see, this is a wonderful <Speech_Male> game though. I <Speech_Male> will, I will go with <Speech_Male> you and I will <SpeakerChange> take the lobos. <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> You ready to get out of here? <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> I'm <SpeakerChange> ready, man. <Speech_Male> Let's do it. Shout <Speech_Male> to Devin down. He <Speech_Music_Male> shouts to Chester South <Speech_Male> Carolina, <SpeakerChange> Chelsea. <Speech_Male> Huck, Lauren, <Speech_Male> takoy <Speech_Male> beyond. Thank you for

"That came from. And maybe you as an entrepreneur and how you instilled those kind of values of reputation and integrity that have helped to build this business and this kind of chapter of your life. Well, Mark, that's a lot to unpack. I think the simple story is the same one a lot of us tell, which is I just tried to be a leader and an owner of a business. It started when I was about 28, 29 years old, I opened my first business that happened to be a window cleaning business. And I didn't realize the valuable lessons I was learning along the way, but I kind of knew. And it became successful and I actually became a victim of my own success and marked the end of that story is is I couldn't find enough people to clean windows. And what I realized now, 40 years later, when I tell that story is, I didn't realize that I should lead with not do you need a job, but I should lead with, tell me about sometime you've cleaned windows before and how that made you happy. When I was looking for someone to work for me, you know, some form of that. I should have been asking an interviewing for. And that was not the approach I took then. And then I opened my next business and again, it started small, hired the people around me. Happened to be a live music venue. That venue grew, I had it for almost 14 years. I morphed it into also a management company for touring bands. Wow. I made a terrible mistake in vision and in mission planning and purchased near the end of my owning the really successful venue. I purchased my competitor who was a good friend. And I say that's a mistake and I share that with you and the listeners Mark because my vision, my mission, my vision for me wasn't to purchase other businesses to purchase another venue. What we were up to at the time, and we kind of knew it, but we didn't know we were supposed to articulate it and stick to it, was we were putting on great shows of original bands. And we were catching all of the great axes they were coming up the ladder. So all those big touring acts. Dave Matthews, widespread panic, fish, humphreys, McGee, all these great bands. Wow. We were the we were the little venue when they were still little and they were growing. They were stopping in and they were playing, they were playing with us. That's what we were up to. And the moment I departed from that and thought that I could go save that other business and that I was in the business of buying another

"My phone. By the way, music. And people I used to sign autographs a couple of years. And nobody asked for autographs anymore. They just want a selfie. That's all anybody wants. Nobody wants an autograph. Because I can hold it and it's a selfie. I went to. Yeah, I got my CD all could autograph, and she said, you can not sign a digital copy. That's true. That's true. So yeah, I've got my t-shirts on. Should I go with CD signed? And I was very happy camper. Just waiting on you, Leo. Just waiting on you, Liz. Wait, wait a long time. But you know what's not going to wait? Our dinner reservation. Let's get the hell out of here. Well, let's look at some latest Humphrey's McGee album first. First, here's the emphasis. Looking for a friend. Two O 5. Cloud Lux edition. How much is that 50 bucks? Hundred bucks if you want all three of those 5 pictures come with it. Look how pretty it is. It's in a world where all of the stuff is digital downloads. Not only does it make sense for the artist, it totally makes sense if you want a thing to show your love of the artist. You get this one. Just like a T-shirt. And that's great. John, do you have a turntable? No, he doesn't have his turntable. He has all the violations. Have you heard that song? It's like I've got a record player that was made in 2015, and I'm like so weird. Like 21st, I hope it's like a USB record player. What is it? I don't even know. But that's hipsters. It's warmer. It sounds warmer. Jason Snell, 6 colors dot com. Dot com. We love a lot of money for that domain. Did you? I did. No, really? I did. It was like four or 5 grand when I was starting the site. And I was like, oh, I got to get it. I got to get it. If you are an apple fan, Jason and Dan are the kings of this and boy, lots of great articles. We'll help you lots of information, it really is a great site. You've done a great job. And of course, how many podcasts do you do? A lot of upgrade on really FM is a big one downstream if you're interested in my thoughts about the streaming world. Absolutely. Very busy man. But I'm so glad to see you. Great to see you. Any time. It really was. It was an easy drive for me, but I'm usually it's you and me and a bunch of avatars. Not today we had Ian Thompson from the register dot com indeed. Great to see you. So you as well. You used to be more fun to come here because we had an English food store, but that's fun. Yeah, that has got that has gone. In fact, a lot of the English food stores have gone to the wall. People realize it's crap. I think I would beg to differ with that. I know you've never got on with Marmite, but I really think you should give it a shot. I'll have a scotch egg tonight. That's what we'll do. Thank you for being here. Really appreciate it. Who was a pleasure. And JJ stone came all the way out from his undisclosed location somewhere back east. It is so nice to have you. You didn't bring Leah this time. I did not. She's very upset with me. And she misses you guys. So next time I guess I have to bring her. We had a good time with her. I will say, it's my fault that this episode happened, and I'm glad that it is my fault. If you're out there in the world, just know two things. One, the chat room here is the best chat room in America. And the Discord is talking about NFTs you can hold the gifts that are going on currently live.

"And four on the season. Before we get to the zags, please enlighten us as your Saturday column did on how rare it is for a first year coach to be as successful as Tommy Lloyd is being this season at Arizona. Happy Valentine's Day, buddy. Happy Valentine's Day. You actually and you threw me, I got thrown for a quick loop. I don't know why I thought this, but I don't know in my brain when you logged on here for this podcast, I thought you were going to be in New York City, but you're flying later today. Yes. You're not there yet. Listen, I'm just twisted. My wife, God bless her. She's like, you know what? Just go and get me flowers, just get an assortment and that's all you need to do for me that's fine. I did a little something else on the side, but anyway, this morning, I had to get it done before we podcasts, so I show up to this florist and my man. Oh my goodness. 30 guys in that thing. I got back in time for this podcast. But Super Bowl Sunday would just, I don't know. Things got away from me. I'm rocking my humphreys McGee winter hat and apparently they played in Connecticut a few nights ago and two different guys and they're like, dude, were you at the show? Were you at the show? I do love me some Humphries. What's not at the show? And so they want to be talking about the set list and their gluten cat and all this stuff. Like 7 people know when I'm referencing anyway, the point is I was in such a squeeze. I was like, well, at least GP will be good to go because he's the New York City and then you're not you're at home. So anyway, hope you gotta understand. And these aren't even sponsors, perhaps they should be. Flowers dot com. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cherries berries. You just one night, you sitting around two weeks ago, watching basketball, you do the online order, it'll arrive on February 14th. And you saved. Now you do have to pay a little bit more. It's gonna cost you a little bit more. But how much extra money would you pay this morning to not have to do that this morning? That's a fair point, although I did, you know, I go to this floor. I've never been this spot before. It's a great spot. Actually a sizable building for a florist. I gotta be honest. And I picked all the flowers and then the bill comes up. I'm like, we sure about that. We sure about that price there. And sure enough, no, it's accurate. Very accurate. But happy Valentine's Day to everyone listening happy Valentine's to GP. And here we are. We are off and rolling on a rare Monday morning podcast. Yes, that's right. So anyone that came by that can't get to Sunday episodes. Welcome to a Monday, a.m. show. As for your question off the top with Arizona. So this is gonna be a trivia time for the listeners at home because I know GPR knows this because it was in my column. If you haven't read my column, you won't know the answer. So play along at home. Trivia time for the listeners is this and I will tell you the answer at the end of the segment. Tommy Lloyd right now has a team that is number two in multiple metrics, both predictive and results based Arizona has a great shot as we speak right now at getting a number one seat. They rolled Washington over the weekend, one 92 to 68. And with the 22 and two record right now, Arizona isn't a really good spot. And I think what Tommy Lloyd is doing here is up for legitimate consideration for national coach of the year, obviously he'd be on the short list. But if he can get Arizona to the one line on selection Sunday, which we are now less than a month away from, by the way, we are less than a month away from selection Sunday. He would become just the third coach in history to get a number one seat in his first season as a head coach period. Not first season with the program. No, first season ever as a head coach, only two other people have done it. You can play along internally. I'll let you know who the other two people were in just a little bit here. So Arizona at this point, I know you don't have them second overall, but my column basically said, Arizona has a very convincing case to be a top two team in the sport right now because of what they've been able to do. If you look at the metrics right now, they are fourth in torvik, but they are second in Ken palm. They were second in the net as of yesterday. Obviously, still are. So second in the net. Second is drink the record, second in camp, second and sagarin, second and BPI, they are fourth and KPI and they are fourth at torvik. So Arizona has a viable case. The only two losses on the road, Tennessee, UCLA, not only are those they were ranked teams when they played them ranked teams now viable, comfortable high seated NCAA tournament teams, Tommy Lloyd's been able to do has been outstanding. I don't want to say it's been overlooked Paris, 'cause it has not been overlooked. I mean, damn, I just wrote a damn column about it over the weekend, but at this point, I would have Tommy Lloyd national coach of the year. I say this as someone who's going to go see another prime candidate for that on Tuesday night with that coolie. I see what Bruce pearl is done. But because Tommy Lloyd just became a head coach, just took over this program, has his team sitting on the one line and per more metrics than not the second best team in the sport to Gonzaga. I would have him, again, this has ever so narrowly narrowly ahead of Bruce pearl and then head of Ed Cooley, but what he's done there has been well beyond expectation last point here. Because I think it can sometimes be easy just to think like, oh yeah, well, you know, they were going to have a good team that had a good roster. This team wasn't that great last season when they had Sean Miller and they had the postseason ban and they were not a rank group heading into the season. They were expected to be good, top three top four in the PAC 12, but not top 5 in the country good. What Tommy Lloyd's been able to do with this roster with this talent to get Arizona back in the mix of national relevance caught by status is pretty awesome. They did finish 29th at Kim palm last season under Sean Miller. I think we've talked about this before. They were a good team last season. We just never discussed them really or focused on the much because they weren't going to play in the NCA tournament. I don't want to say they were all people's radar, but we don't spend a lot of time talking about teams that aren't going to the NCAA tournament. But they finished 29th and then they returned azules to Bellas, bin Mather and Kirk, Christian colloquial. They returned 5 of their top 9 scores..

"Capitulate like here's the first clue between seventeen ninety one and eighteen. Oh four okay. Wink wink africans and their descendants refused to capitulate to their french captors. Oh okay okay okay. Okay second clue is after seeing himself on the news. The escaped convict decided to capitulate in order to avoid being violently apprehended by police So to give in Maybe to give in to yeah to give or give up so he finally answered. That's gonna be my answer. I'll save because of the dates. You said on that first example to not bow down by answer. Yeah yeah you got it is. It is Cease to resist an opponent or an unwelcome demand to surrender. I like that work. Capitulate capitulate all right. So i'm gonna give it to our guest house. I have to spell lord yes cool. Shirley shook okay. I'm gonna try phonetically because it seems like a word that would doesn't have too many like curb. All's in it right so c. a. p. i t. u. l. a. t. is what i'm gonna say. Yes yes you got it I'm gonna get you on the next one shirley so you've meant so you mentioned everything that you're doing. You're doing a lot but now one of your news project is. You have a podcast. Coming out called blackberry jams Pr xs launch that. Pr is launching it. it's With ben and jerry's it's all about Jam band culture and black liberation work. So it's you and lenny dunkin hosting it. I have a question. Because here's the thing. I did not know anything about fish until i met you and drew. Please explain for anyone. 'cause i'm like i was like what is the fish. What is fish. Who yes what's who is fishing. What's so special about this ban. Sure's of fish is abandoned spelled. P. h i s h for fish and. It's a four way dude from vermont. Who went to college together. They started a band while they were in college. Thirty plus years ago and They're jam jamming their live. Shows are really you know the thing about them. They're an improvisational band so they play off each other. They're not they don't have any lay hits. They're very few albums even and they they're on tour and they have a wide following. I would say if i was good. Like shorthanded is that. They are kind of the newest generation of the grateful dead. So so you think of kind of atmosphere round the grateful dead we will follow them and go on tour with them and go to all of the shows and this kind of free love atmosphere and sort of hippie ish Kind of that's fish. Now we're who introduce you to fish like how did you discover them. So i've known about fish for a long time. I went to boarding school. And upstate new york which is very close to vermont and sell watsa of my white girlfriends in high school. Were big fish fans and just they were that was when they were just coming up and so they were really popular locally regionally they play it like different like bars and cool hubs and things like that and so i've known about this for really long time. I had gone to my first fisher during High school with some friends. But when i met drew He has been a huge fish ban bird even longer than that looks. He ever heard on the fact that i tell. Tell the story in the first episode of the podcast. But the first night we hooked up the day after he went to a three day festival. Like alex. nice to meet you great gate. Great have no. I'm not meet you. I'll be back in three days about three day concert like why it's so. Yeah so that's how i really started getting into. Fish is because you're here's my partner really loves this thing and like let me see what the hell this is about like. What the deal is and One of the things that i like to say about it as a black person is that it's it's the closest thing you going to officials are closest thing you can get to purchasing white privilege. Okay give me example. Break it down with use. This like bubble raise. The like people are wherever you are people smoking weed and this is before anything was for sale and yeah before any of that stuff and doing other illicit drugs and just this this general freedom that existed in this bubble of a show That really does didn't exist outside of it so for me. It was like to sleep walking around. These people need to do whatever the fuck they want to do. Like nobody's stopping them knowing saving to them. And you know you start to like get in and and No fish a panama. I'd love their music. And i love listening to them and i love going to shows. Really getting into the groove. There's they call it a moment of bliss where everything is like just thumping and the lights are going and everything And so yeah you know that. That's how i kind of you know. Name it as as a black person space but also there's very few black people there to the point. Delay one of my friends from high school. He radha show together or we knew this show together in atlantic city. I'm going out. We'll try and catch up with each other. And i'm not kidding around this huge boardwalk colin atlantic city and. I could see her because she was the only other black woman there. I texted her by waving right now. She was like. Oh yeah okay so you need to buy the bathroom. Wow that's that's literally you that that level of you just like very very white atmosphere. Oh wow do you know any musicians that we that are popular. That loves them or talk about them or kind of navy have sampled a little bit about them. That people may not know like. Oh that's kind of inspired by fish. I wouldn't say like inspired. But like more recent jam bands would be like humphrey mcgee's would be one if you all have heard of them ormeau galactic So any of these bands. I really like lean into their lives. Improvisational style of music is kind of like those are all descendants of the grateful dead and and fish subsequently so. Yeah it's really about you know. They play similar songs. But every time you hear it's never the same because you never know where they're going to take what the you know if it's gonna be a deep long guitar solo or if the the bass player mark gordon's gonna take off for if page who Page mcconnell who's on the keys is going to really get into it that time so every every song that you hear are heard almost all their songs multiple times. And it's like oh. That was a really great teaser or that free was amazing or that was the best ghost. I've heard yet or something like that. So that's very much an experiential..

lenny dunkin fisher during High school vermont drew Shirley shirley jerry ben atlantic city alex new york radha humphrey mcgee panama navy mark gordon mcconnell
