Why are health authorities still struggling to communicate?

"I'm helter for teigen. Tayla and opposition journalists daughter. Norman swan tuesday the first of december and this time a year ago there was a virus circulating in hubei province just starting to reported probably sprayed from mid-november and things are just gathering pace under the radar one year ago. We'll have to deep dive into the early days of the virus. But not today norman. Okay hold myself back well. The last couple of days have been a role ride again in adelaide. Norman we've heard about a man who was out and about with covid and there were question marks about whether he should have been an isolation or not and the communication seems a bit messy. And it's been a bit hard to know what he was expected to do. Or whether he understood what he was expected to do. And even now i can't really make sense of what he was expected to do whether he knew it or not. How do we make sense of these sorts of things and if we can't communicate it well then. How do we know that people actually know what to do. Yeah i think what you're seeing here is an early forgetfulness. If you like of the key message from this pandemic throughout deploy doesn't matter really what country you're in is that if you've got consistent messaging from the leadership in other words political leadership and your public health dealership then people trust that and the follow it and hopefully that advice is solid and australia by large. It has been solid. So that from prime minister to brandon murphy and from dana andrews and brett sutton and alan chang and so on so in other words. You've you've had your good synchrony. We've had very policies in australia in terms of lockdown okay. They've been controversial. But communication has been fairly consistent now in toria the data looked they were transparent but the actually weren't that transparent sometimes very hard for us to make sense of what they were actually saying. And i think that reflected robin name being deliberately obscure. It just reflected the fact that they're contact tracing was in a bit of a mess and therefore the really have good data to pass on. So now you've got this situation and it's very important to remember this because support for the next pandemic important if the coronavirus comes back in australia. Such as you've had in south australia is that surfaced jones behaviorally well differently. They've come forward to be tested however a wobble like this does create a problem for community understanding because the temptation here of course is to victim blame. Oh there's this guy and he's out in a boat and probably even imply that yesterday on corona cast. He's been out of the boat. What a decayed during this and so on and so forth it turns out. He's actually behave quite well. And if there was confusion over communication that confusion has been all levels the understanding. We seem to have got yesterday. Was that he in fact was a casual. Contact was told to wait until he was tested. He was tested. And i said we got the result. The result was negative so he wasn't in quarantine and then he was told to get another test at eleven days which apparently was positive and it was while he was positive that he was out in a boat. I'm not sure that the nudity was positive but he was out in about roundabout that period of time. So it's just another example where you're creating danger when you're not sure of your facts and and you jump in people us we jump into and but we are assuming that the information is accurate. Not making any excuses about this is just another lesson that how the authorities communicate is essential to the control of the pandemic and to this one. Because it's not over yet

As Australians panic buy toilet paper, those closest to Coronavirus outbreaks panic the least

"A tale of two countries for the past two months. China correspondent Bill Birtles has been chasing the corona virus. After going to the epicenter Wuhan in January. He recently traveled today. Goo This south in the South Korean city which has the highest number of confirmed cases outside of China but after returning to Beijing. He's developed cabin. Fever forced to quarantine at home for fourteen days. His bill having covered the corona virus for more than two months. Now the thing that strikes me is that people at the center of the outbreaks seemed to panic the lease. That's what I found in Wuhan in January and it seemed again to be the case in the South Korean industrial city of two and a half million people is about the signed distances Sydney to Canberra the drive down the highway. Seoul was smooth and uneventful at the time. The number of new cases were rising my hundreds each day and as we need the city out phones kept buzzing with emergency alerts unlike China. The roads were blocked. There were no signs of any extra police. It all looked quite normal when we arrived in Taizhou we headed to one of the major hospitals treating Corona virus patients as my report that day for ABC TV showed there were temperature. Checking stations and Mike. Shift tenths everywhere. This is temporary screening station. Too tight temperature checks and if you look around virtually set up tents going back for quite a long way but there were no people. The tents were empty. No lines no panic from local residents racing to get tested and outside the hospital while everyone deed wear masks local business. People carried on as usual. It felt so strange to me. Having arrived from China where the government has whipped the nation into a national wall campaign against the virus South Koreans seemed worried but not too panicked hand. Sanitizer was available everywhere and despite rumors of a lockdown on the government decided. It wasn't worthwhile that night. Perhaps against judgment we finished now worth and headed for a light Korean Barbecue. Dinner at a restaurant next to the hotel. It was surprisingly busy customers eating drinking and chatting without masks. A reminder life goes on in these places even at the news makes it sound like local fruit tariff on it. The next day we headed to another hospital which was blocked off only Kovic patients could be brought in outside stopped walked back and forth in has suits while local shops nearby world shot. We wanted to interview locals but it was pouring rain so we retreated to a shopping mall with Wifi to file our stories heading back to Saul. I could tell things stepped up a bit. The hotel had set up temperature. Chicks and made phone calls to verify where we'd been. Schools had been suspended but life otherwise went on with the story largely in the bag. We made plans to head back to Beijing. One of the most annoying things about covering this virus is you have to travel for the story and that means quarantine upon returning given. How much of a quiet place? Beijing has been during the outbreak. I was just glad to get out for a few days to Korea but opponent returning I realized the city government had stepped up its measures. You have to register at your building compound. The rules keep changing but at the moment everyone from outside. Beijing must stay at home for fourteen days. I arrived time really late at night and the next morning policeman was at my door. It wasn't his first visit. He also came after my initial trip to Wuhan but it appears he doesn't have all the infighting he asked me where I'd been. I told him South Korea. He noted it all down and within minutes. The system swung into action. The residential compound rang me to ask. If I had a fever into. Tell me I had to stay home for fourteen days. This is on top of my office. Compound requiring all staff to report the health situation in recent travel and an e miles from the foreign ministry requiring all journalists to send their temperatures h died but soon manager for my building was at the door with some documents to sign acknowledging. I accept legal responsibility for obeying the quarantine. She also stuck a note to my door addressed to my neighbors. It told them I'd come back from Korea and I'm staying home to observe my health until March thirteenth. It thanked them for their understanding and support and included a name and a number of someone from the building committee for them to ring. Why would they ring? I'll leave that up to you to guess but it puts me on edge even just a sneak out to take the rubbish down the hole in fairness the building manager made it clear she thought the noticed was excessive and she said for any deliveries. I just ring her and she'll send a worker to bring them up and leave them at the door at the time when she kaime a just offered a home delivery flat white so I felt very sheepish ringing to ask someone to go and bring it to me but those are the rules and this is far more comfortable than what many others going through in the lock off who bay province. There are tens of millions of people who have been told to stay home for more than a month in some cities there. The local building committees organized buying food in the cities. There's no normal high delivery like in Beijing. An Australian. We interviewed this week in the city of Ginger described it as like living in. Gile some other reports talk of people in Hubei Province. Now running low on supplies as the number of new infections in Hawaii and China more. Broadly declines day-by-day thousand during the tightest quarantine measures are desperately hoping for some relief. It puts it all into perspective being far away from Hoover up here in the capital Beijing and it makes it all the more baffling for me to watch people all the way over in Australia. Panic and stock up on toilet paper. This is bill birtles in Beijing for Correspondence report but a perspective China correspondent. Bill birtles quarantined in his Beijing apartment.

China reports no new infections outside Wuhan

"China there is some positive news from China today regarding the corona virus outbreak the president province of Hubei at the center of the epidemic is registered no new cases outside the city of Wuhan for a second consecutive day a Chinese official says the lockdown of residence in who break could be ending soon elsewhere though governments are increasing measures to try to contain a sharp rise in infections that in Australia one of the latest news there is being to banned tourists from visiting aboriginal settlements and I also Sydney correspondent Phil Mercer what the thinking was behind that specific measure essentially it's using geography to try to fortify remotes indigenous settlements against the spread of the code of eight nineteen virus now these remotes aboriginal communities often only have one oh two roads in or out in the idea raises that some of these communities will for Bates visitors who've been to China Iran South Korea Japan it's silly and they won't let the main for the next three months so this is a way for indigenous people to try to get some sort of control given that the Australian government believes that indigenous people a one of the groups most vulnerable to the corona virus and this is what because of pre existing health conditions that that might exist yes you have to remember that the indigenous Australians suffer higher rates of ill health imprisonment poverty more than anyone else and they also suffer high rates of diabetes and renal conditions but also housing is invariably chronically overcrowded and some of these communities to Saudi authorities believe that these pre existing conditions and these other problems could be extremely flat tile ground full of virus light cove it

Huge jump in coronavirus cases and deaths in China

"Health officials are reporting a huge jump in the number of coronavirus cases in China's Hubei province that comes as scientists there of change the definition of who has the disease now known as cove ID nineteen with this new definition the number of cases worldwide now stands at about sixty thousand more than ninety nine percent of those cases are in China if your science correspondent Richard Harris is with us in studio Richard thanks for coming in sure good morning so does this new figure represents an expansion of the disease of we can call it that order or simply a change in how it's being defined it's mostly a change in the definition but changing the definition of a disease does make it harder to track trends and to really understand what's going on beneath the surface right so we know the jump from last week to this week is not actually the result of a huge change in in how this disease progressing so what's the rationale why did the Chinese government decide to change the definition the first place that question came up yesterday at a press briefing at the World Health Organization in Geneva and W. H. O. scientists of you bring your own help explain what's going on first of all what is important to understand it's no more during the course of an outbreak to adapt the keys the Phoenician because we need to be very close to the reality to monitor as a disease how is unfolding and in the earliest as he died in the earliest days of this disease the virus hadn't been identified so all the cases were essentially defined by clinical symptoms like pneumonia into one your doctor Briel again the situation is evolving so when you are few cases you have a very specific even specific case definition because you really want to die the couple each and every case when the situation is evolving you change your definition just to make sure that you can monitor as a disease are correct and sees what they have done recently changing the case definition to incorporate my Casey's so is she saying there it's now going to incorporate mild cases I mean what factors are gonna have other than obviously having more cases to report right well in the short run it causes some confusion because you can't simply compare last week's numbers to this week's numbers and get some sense of a trend of the disease but in the long run it will actually be helpful because health officials really do need to control those mild cases to in order to keep the disease from spreading so going forward we could well have a better sense of how the disease is progressing it's also the case that once you've included all those mild cases it will push down what's called the case fatality rate which is the number of deaths per diseases and so yeah yeah so you you don't change the number of number of people who die when you change the definition of who's sick but but if you include all of these additional people the rate will go to the rate goes down you know this about three percent right now something like that in trying to but that may be an inflated number what you put in all of these other cases yeah so I let me ask you this there's been a lot of frustration that China hasn't been leading an international scientists including scientists from the U. S. so they can see for themselves the data behind all of these numbers what what can you tell us about that effort well China has finally granted WHS some access that W. H. I. sent three experts to scope out the situation earlier this week and to try to figure out exactly what their full team would do the CDC hopes to be part of that delegation but that still hasn't happened so you know there has been a lot of suspicion that China isn't telling the whole story but the W. H. O. has been pretty adamant the trend has been very helpful so especially when it comes to controlling the spread of the disease outside its borders witness the fact that less than one percent of all of those cases are elsewhere service at that news conference yesterday WHO's scientist Mike Ryan pointed out that the new case definitions actually step toward that transparency this is not an attempt to ignore cases it's an attempt to widen the net and Lou by look cases and I'm all lab confirmed cases regardless of the symptoms so what are they just counting the number of people who have tested positive for the new crossfire yeah that would be ideal if the test were completely reliable and if they had enough of the test kits to go around but we seen reports of the test and trying to have been in short supply and of questionable quality it's generally run from the nose or throat swab and in some cases the when you swap like that you really don't get the virus necessarily could be cheaper in the long so so even a perfect test may not pick everything up but to you know that that's what they're trying to expanded rather include cases that that are that are big mild exactly

"Governments began flying their citizens out of China's Hubei province the epicenter center of the coronavirus outbreak as authorities now say the death toll there has talked a hundred and sixty the health commission there so the deaths in the province from the new corona virus had risen by thirty seven people to a hundred and sixty to a wall of further one thousand thirty two cases had been detected rising temperatures triggering extreme weather events around the world could result in an increase in heat related illnesses and deaths as well as the threat of new infections and diseases according to experts there just as the outlook for the global economy had been bright need in recent months this new threat has suddenly emerged in the form of the viral outbreak in China that was the cautionary message that the chairman Jerome Powell delivered after the federal reserve held interest rates low again after its latest policy meeting speaking at a news conference Paul said the signing of a preliminary US China trade deal earlier this month the resolution of brexit and continuing low interest rates in the United States and abroad had suggested that the world economy would start to expand more quickly after being held back by trade conflicts that scenario he says is now complicated by the emergence of this virus registered investment adviser Michael mission shop like with us Mitch how good a virus have idea affect on the economy all George I've been following this story here for weeks I'm expecting supply chain disruptions here in China they are shutting down factories they are telling people to go home and stay there in some cases George I bet she got videos up on my site where they're locking people in to their apartment I just actually horrible cannot believe that and it makes me livid I think China's high hiding a lot of the details that are coming out of there we only know what they're reporting we don't know what the real story is some nurses they're saying that there's as many that the doctors are saying that there's as many as ninety thousand cases but they're reporting you know six thousand whatever so I don't know meanwhile back to the fed they made a couple of interesting changes in their statement today they said that consumer spending has been rising last month they said at a strong pace today they said at a moderate pace and they were talking about inflation returning to the fed's target this month last month they said near the target but the bond market doesn't believe that the yield curve is inverted again George we've got almost a quarter of a point inversion between the five year in the three months that ten year is about ready to invert as well this is on fears of the supply chain disruption it in China we really have to follow the story George big time is to keep your eyes on it for us your long this happened almost magical ability to repair that cancerous mutation caused by smoking but only if you stop according to scientists the mutations that lead the long cancer had been considered to be permanent at to persist even after quitting but the surprise findings published in nature show that the few cells of the skate damage can repair the longer it's an amazing story more than five hundred sixty seven thousand seven hundred and ten people experience homelessness on any single day across the country in two thousand nineteen according to government estimates twenty nine states and the district of Columbia witness declines in homelessness year over year one of the S. states with the high the homeless this population ranking number one California the New York Florida and Texas a dramatic push to force Republicans to accept witnesses at Donald trump's impeachment trial in the U. S. Senate appeared to be flagging on Wednesday raising the possibility that the president could be acquitted as early as Friday doctor John Curtis been following this story for us John an update from you Sir yeah well the fake file is getting close to ending George I think so and once the record you know the real quick pro quo here yeah Bolton for Biden and I think that once you know Adam ship in the rest of the Democrats realize that they've been checkmated here but they don't want by number stamp Biden doesn't want to go on the stand there you know he's in a battle right now in Iowa and you know nationwide you slipping in the in the polls right now so I think that they've purchased as far as it can go right now but I have to tell you you know the idea how to win if you ever heard in your lifetime that a tell all book it's considered Bob about breakthrough blockbuster evidences of the bomb shell they have every bomb shell coming at the New York times every day of the week there's something else George it's all fake and what they've got with Baldwin basically is nothing more than a bout with all their other witnesses which is basically you know that this bag July twenty fifth phone call you know involved you know some kind of a suggestion that they should withhold regal to some military aid in exchange for getting the getting information on corruption and which includes the bidens so I think that trumps attorneys have made of a very strong case that you cannot determine intention you can not impute intention to him and therefore he should be acquitted and I think whatever friends setting that sitting Republicans there were and talk about Mitt Romney not one of trump's biggest bands and you know he and so forth they're now leaning toward ending this thing because they know that there aren't sixty seven boats there and keeping this going into the primaries does no one any god then it could be over by Friday John thank you John Curtis online columnist dot com what are the dangers of artificial intelligence in a moment John would joins us we'll talk about that possibility next on coast to coast stadium if.

"The two three six so bring up the to some two three six or the three eight. Two didn't hit two three six. But you could've taken prophet right at the three eight two. That was on you sir right here so we should add your limit sell order and then right here and if you miss this one you move your stop loss to break even who cares goodbye on the six one eight definitely that but when you buy the six when you got to have an exit strategy FIBONACCI Theory Eglise if you're applying for BANACCI theory to attempt to find like a long-term bottom for game I don't I don't think you're correct. I think the Games got a law like quite a bit ways to go like. I'm I'm very. I don't even know if we'll if this will be I'm sure we'll get a bounce off of this. Vp are the support that's a trade But as far as like established up Trent Brown that's what PTP's for so. I think that you might again. I don't want to come in here and tell you to sell something to my pump up but if I were in your shoes I would've tried to sell that. Probably you know I moved my stop-loss a break. Even I take some profit right. Now you gotta get you gotTa get trade. I don't think it's likely that you're gonNA they get a big old massive game pump out of this. That's just me personally. I'm always very bearish when we look at all coin charts. So if I'm wrong don't don't Flamy Lamey on the state brother all right. Let's see here.
