"You've had a run in with the cops. You had a situation better tell them because I'm repeating myself like a parrot. Somebody else brings it to you. You're on the defensive, explaining you're losing you Bring it out first and frame it. The way you need to. It takes all the wind away. By the way, Trump never figured that out. He was always on the defensive or not on the defensive. He just would deny deny Deny. So it worked from for a while. Now, it doesn't as the Howard Rubinstein of our lifetime Steve out of bottle doing damage control. You would tell a candy, get everything out. Including the six school models you've had in the last 20 years of being married to set about because that comes to the surface to you know that, Steve I left that out on purpose. Go ahead. Okay, So that stuff you keep Hush hush much much now. Final question. Steve out a bottle, because I didn't mean May I met general? Could my wife Jennifer listening right now? Don't get me in trouble. No, no, it's okay. It'll be the ST Valentine's Day massacre for you on Sunday. If in fact that's true, but 100% go ahead. This legalization of the recreation we recreational use of marijuana. The voters in New Jersey passed it overwhelmingly. Yep, Who's getting wined? Dined in pocket line about where? These, um wholesale retail outlets they're gonna because I know a lot of communities they don't want, even though they voted. Legalized in a New Jersey They don't want the dispense she Aires in the community. How come it's not available yet? First of all, you are right. There are powerful sources, powerful players behind the scenes with a lot of money involved when there's money involved, and there's lobbying, which is legal inappropriate. You don't know how things are playing out. But I'll say this publicly, The fight is over. What exactly will the criminal charges be? Or what's criminal? And what's de criminalized? What's legal? Not when it comes to minors and marijuana? That's the public fight. You're saying they haven't resolved that? So Governor Murphy has not signed off yet. I believe it's that plus what you're talking about Who gets what in what neighborhood and who's getting, you know? Um, just a few bucks and I got to tell you something that's got to be resolved because the voters said We approve legal, recreational marijuana, and you can't sit on that because you're denying the voters what they said they wanted in a public initiative with the Legislature couldn't figure it out. Well, you know what the most interesting argument in Jersey and it's reflected here in New York. We're gonna be talking about that up. Next is You have the religious community in the inner city, blacks and Hispanics. Evangelicals. Mainstream Baptists totally opposed. Including Senator Ron Rice, the leader of the Black Caucus in the state Senate in Jersey. Absolutely against us from north, right, so the older black and Hispanics, let's say Ah, my age your age. Steve opposed to it. Go with your age. Okay, uh, the younger black and Hispanic saying No, no, no, We're budding entrepreneurs. In Irvington, East orange, new work. We want to be licensed to run the dispensary ery because this is like a cash cow. This is like reparations, 40 acres and a mule and more. Curtis. You have this right when people say what is the view of the minority community? What's the view of Hispanic mean? That's ridiculous. There are so many different factions. There's so many different divisions and how they look at it is by age by geography by religion by so many things, there is not a monolithic African American. Perspective on legalization of marijuana, and you are absolutely right. Younger folks who happen to be black are many of them, most of them and every policy absolutely favorite of it because they see the entrepreneurial opportunities and they don't believe with many older African Americans believe And that's just the nature of communities. They're very independent in the way they think they're not monolithic. Just remember the Kennedys were bootleggers and then when it became legal What happened on eventual President of the United States. Correct, Steve A tomato. I mean, listen, coincidence that happened. The coincidences go on, and I don't know what happened in Chicago. And although I have no idea in 1960 hours a little baby at the time, I don't know if if old man Joe took care of business with his friend Sam Giancana. I don't know. I just know what I read. Curtis Lee was But I know your daddy dearly departed that you love so much, And so many other people did it and iconic figure in the Democratic Party. He told you, you just purposely forget God. They told me I had to take it to my grave. Yep, as most folks on Bloomfield Avenue in the North Ward of New York have been told. Take it to your grave. New extra charge. Hot nice coffee from Duncan is made with 20% extra caffeine from green coffee extract because we could all.

"Drake Relays Talk radio 77 w maybe see Let's get right down to it way have on the line are rack on to evolve, Evolve Defender of everything in New Jersey. You name it even designating that tomatoes. Fruits instead of vegetables. It is Steve Autobot. Oh, thanks for joining us today again, Steve Curtis has always it is my honor to join you and your terrific audience. By the way, you do realize that tomato is a vegetable, not a fruit. Well, listen, we're having a debate, the pork roll and Taylor Ham After that, I mean, Jersey has all kinds of debates going on whether it's Taylor Ham, pork roll tomatoes or Springsteen or the battle taking place in the TIC Tac diner. Now, the place that the Rolling Stones went to for their Taylor roll. Remember before playing in the middle lands before the pandemic. Do you remember that Steve out of Otto? Mick Jagger knows where to go, and he and he took the rest of the band with him. That is the TIC Tac Diner, the one and only what's happening there. Apparently there's some kind of dispute going on. Um I did no longer be a tic Tac diner after the pandemic. There you say a dispute and a controversy at a Jersey diner together is the whole question as to whether they're going to be around, But I listen, Let me just say Curtis that after a night back in the day Of enjoying myself in the disco era. I did find my way to the TIC tac. Diner. Just one. I disclosed that right now, By the way, did you used to come into the city and stand on line and not get picked? Because they looked at you with your polyester waffle weave flame retardant pants. You know, you gotta go with the cliche which Jersey had its own clubs. But every once in a while we go into New York. Just remember that we get rejected is not quote looking the part they knew we were coming across. Talent of the bridges. I'll bet you you never went to the club Zanzibar. I did go to the dance floor, and I made it to the balcony of studio 54, which I was born. I signed some sort of affidavit that I would never discuss publicly now the hotels and, uh, excuse me. The club's hands about right as part of the Lincoln Motel, where the only Republicans welcome there with those on $5 bills. One time. One time I went there from New York right, took the path out to New Jersey shore right now considered the most polluted train line of the many trade lines in the world. The path train Had my marshmallow shoes on. So I schlepped all the way out to the club Zanzibar and they would tell me White boy, you do not want to go into the club's handsome Bob. I put on a performance and then feet Don't fail me now. I lost all the bottoms of my marshmallow shoes running depend station in order to get back to the Penn Station in New York City, a 34th street Kurdish people should I don't even know if Zanzibar would be on Wikipedia. But it was one in a million. It's hard to describe, and I was honored to be there, and I'm glad you made your way there to you. I'm sure you're welcome. No, because I was from New York and you're the Jersey guy, But your claim to flame is with passion of Rubinstein here in New York, who was the number one person in advising clients and doing damage control for them? Likewise, Steve out about it. You've lectured. You've written books. You've helped people who really had some negative pressure coming their way. Now for the iconic figure of all New Jersey All America all the world, Bruce Springsteen. What advice would you give him today? Because I don't think anybody expected that TMZ story yesterday. You know, Curtis interesting. You know, after I got the call from you and your team to do the segment I started researching and the bottom line is this I'm not ex. Sure exactly what went down in that state park over it, Sandy hook, which is in fact a federal property. I'm not sure he was on his motorcycle. Which you confirmed this morning. I talked to you, but If he was at 0.2. The alcohol level and the level in Jersey Legal limit is 0.0. Wait. I don't get I didn't get at first. Why he was arrested for d U I. Then I read that the troopers that looked at him of the cops that they he was wobbling. He walked the wrong number of steps. They looked at his eyes. Me. I trust the cops until I find out otherwise. But I do wonder whether Springsteen was targeted on some level because of his political views because he's been outspoken because he did a Super Bowl commercial trying to get to the middle. God forbid you imagine try to bring people together. How dare he do that? I don't know, but until I find out otherwise Trust the cops. So do you think he was doing that Tom Brady waddle from having imbibed too much tequila because he claim he only had one shot of tequila. I don't know of anybody who just takes one shot of tequila, to be honest with you. I think he admitted. T C. You know what's interesting, Curtis? I thought it was one as well. I read an article on North Jersey Comet folks want to check it out just before I got on the air with you. But he didn't he acknowledged to now here's my advice, and by the way, I do not coach people in government only people in the private sector not for profit folks, folks who are not in government cause they're on their own. But I gotta take this. Whatever he did or didn't do. Come clean, Say it. Be upfront acknowledge that you have had a couple of shots. One of the fans who you met in the park said they, Bruce. You know the bush You want to take a couple hits he did. Right? I don't know if it's too fine of its four and he doesn't say it for and then he got on the bike to ride out. And the cop acknowledges that he saw more than that. There's gonna be a problem. My advice, Curtis Disclose it all. Put it out there before TMZ or anybody else does it Because if you don't, then you're on the defensive. If you explaining and media communication, you know as well as anyone you're explaining you're losing Get to the point. Quickly own it, all of it. Whatever it is. Wow. It's the ghost of Howard Rubinstein, New Jersey style. It's Curtis. Look, you've been involved in all kinds of interesting situations. Where let me quantify that boy..

"That is at the end of the day, destructive in the sense that it It forces everybody to be either pro or anti Trump. And so a lot of good issues get obscured and get just ignored because if you embrace and then you're embracing trump and in all of his objections, all of his accusations and it doesn't have to be that way. So we're not really getting reform this way. We're getting ah lot of bomb throwing back and forth and a lot of angry talk, but we're not getting anywhere. Form. So right now, the next election will be run under the same rules as this one. Which is why I'm glad that the Republicans are objecting because I think it might set in motion some ideas as to how we reform the system so that people can trust it. Huh? Well, we're just about out of time. Hey, In just a few seconds you met you mentioned in your column. Howard Rubinstein. He was one of the great behind the scenes forces in their city. Wonderful guy loved Howard Rubinstein, and we lost him over the New Year holiday. But just give us a few seconds of what? What a role he played in New York. Well, Howard, you know was was something of a fixer. It was a PR big PR agency. He specialized in people with big problems on his is way of dealing with them, and I got to know him quite well. And in later years his way of dealing with these clients, whether is Leona Helmsley, Marv Albert when he had his issues, George Steinbrenner he had he had a sane on a plaque on his desk. And it said, If you always tell the truth, you don't have to remember what you said on. I was the first time I saw that. I was just I thought that's absolutely brilliant, and I realized in many ways that was the key to his success. It was I'm going to get you out of trouble. But if you lie, I'm not going to be able to do it. And so you've got to not live. Got to tell the truth. And so if you look at the pattern of his clients They always had some point come clean about it. They always admit something so that I think people have this sense that some version of justice has been done. Even if it was just an apology to the public. There was no crime involved. Just something sorted. Perhaps that that there was some sense that things have been put right, And I think that was Howard's genius, and he did it. In the least offensive ways He could be Frank, but it was never poisonous. It was never offensive. It was always just honest that I think that's how he lived. I admire him for it. He was a great man, a quiet man, and he fixed this show number of times. He would always call date back off on that. Don't do that He was settled the arguments. Although he was good, great man. Michael Goodwin will be waiting for Wednesday's column. And thanks for being with us My pleasure, Mike. Thank you. Thank you. "Good friend the last few days with us this morning is another great friend of both of us. We have Cindy Adams with us on Good morning, Cindi. I love you. I love you. Good morning, sweetie. Thank you. We lost a good friend. The last few days we lost Howard Rubinstein. He was an icon in New York. He got involved in almost every organization. On. You knew him extremely well, he tells told New Yorkers who Howard Rubinstein is and how you know him, except I know him since the stone age before those Dutch guys negotiated how much to pay for Manhattan Island? How would Rubenstein would already have put up a condo on the shoreline? Actually, New York was Rubenstein country, but nobody actually knows is Howard and I saved the New York Post. Years ago, there was a period when laws dictated that Rupert Murdoch couldn't own both The New York Post and Fox TV at the same time, it came a frantic Friday. When it was just Howard and me working our phones and our role. Adex is to see who we could get by Monday to save this newspaper. We were panicked. I had a heavy head cold. He was in his Park Avenue apartment. I was in my Park Avenue apartment just blocks apart. We talk to one another all night Long, John. It is not easy to dredge up a name who could deliver a half inch of millions over a weekend like they had it under their pillow at home. Together. We came up with a name called Steven Hoffenberg. Howard and I were grateful. Just Steve. Oh, my God, who then went away a little bit afterwards, Steven Hoffenberg almost sold me his yacht. Accepted what happened. Berg almost sold away his life because he had a little problem afterwards, But he had the cash under his pillow, whatever itwas to come up and save the New York Post. So that was that. And New York was Rubenstein country. I thought, Siri, I saw Stephen half bird. You bring back memories, and then he brings back memories. Didn't ape herself by two? Yeah. Steven Hoffenberg after Steven Hoffenberg I whom I brought in with Howard after he had a little problem with the law, and then had to go away for a holiday for a few years. And then we had to find another buyer, and we came up with a babe Hirschfeld, another beauty, another beauty, and he came in, and he was there for two weeks. But we all just like him and he was my friend, but an idiot, So we threw him out. And then in came back, Murdoch who who owned it longer happened, Berg. Or herself after Hoffenberg owned it for a few months. And then in came Hirschfeld for an hour and a half. But Hirschfeld was a little bit drinky. So we had to get with him. And then in came Murdoch again. Too bad we did not do. Where were you? You could have brought it, for God's sakes. I'm the next guy. Uh, wait. Okay, baby. I love you. You know, I always think I always say about Howard Rubenstein. You have Two people are far away, however, Rubinstein will sit them down to the table and within a half hour Everybody be happy and everybody would make a deal. Is that Howard Rubinstein? Yes, that's also you, John. No matter what is really going on, and you're very smart. You're always have a smile, and you're always easy. Howard was the same. He was pleasant. He was affable. He was smiling. Once we're having dinner at Peter Luger Steak House and book in which his wife's family owned and we're having dinner with attorney Barry Slotnick. Will. Barry was kosher. The restaurant isn't so a big slab of meat came out of a hand carried brown paper bag straight from a butcher, a Jewish butcher, and Howard had it. He was always You see, He didn't get excited. He didn't get nervous. He was terrific. He was terrific. He's like you is like you. Well, Cindy Adams stuff. Tell us Are you saying good riddance to 2020? Yeah, Everybody should say good riddance. Say good riddance to 2020. It was awful. But you know, New Yorkers had bad times The country has had bad times before I've gone back in history and I've looked. There were pandemics. There were terrible things there was 9 11. We've come back and we will come back from this too. I don't know how, but we will come back. I'm just tired of staying home. I've been home for 10 months, 11 months. It's the one that you took me to dinner every once in a while I shoot myself. This. You know, we need a miracle, and you never know. Miracles still happen once in a while. You know, I know they do. It seems their only happening to Catholic. So do they have to choose a swell love you greatly and a great 2021 to all of us. Thank you, sweetheart. Have a happy new year. I love you. Dearly. Bye. Happy New Year with us this morning is one of the smartest. Uh, What was that called strategist? Political strategists. I know he represented Michael Bloomberg. You've represented President Bill Clinton. Uh, we have with us said Hey, Chan Kar. Thanks Happy New Year to you, John into your family, and to all of all of the nation's only better times a company giving Sami good riddance to 2020. I think 99% of the American people agreed to that. Except some of the people that the hedge fund people have made a ton of money. 2021. It looks like we're gonna be job, Agnes to be sworn in on January 20th. So give us your visions of 2021 for for our city, our state. And our country. I'm an optimist, not a pessimist. I think New York will come back in a big way. Um, it is the capital and still the financial capital on the creative capital of the world. There's more things that are gonna happen here. It's just gonna be good. Why? Because you can't kill the New York spirit. We went to 75 in the fiscal crisis. We've been to real estate down turns and ups. We've been to natural disasters. Hurricane Sandy. Andhra World Trade Center bombing, you know? You can't keep New York down and they will be something new. That happens as the United States of America. We're going to an interesting period of time to transition. The party's air changing. There's originalism that you know that New York may be able to tolerate, may not be able tolerate. The I think the Republicans will maintain control of the Senate in Georgia. I would bet today that the Democrats would love take one or none. It's just we're going to a period of change. I'm going to it's significant demographic shift nationally, and what's gonna happen is that more people can trace their roots to Africa and Asia and Latin America. Frankly, then they will be able to the trace their roots to Europe. It's just changed. And you know, sometimes change is good in this country keeps responding well to change. It's just the nature of who you are correct. Correct. I am worried about New York City. We both live here. Onboard. Seems like I guess Governor Cuomo and married a pleasure. Don't see I'd iron things and the victims are the year the people of the city of New York..
