"Say, what if we got a place that could do this? It's like y'all charge surcharge pricing and people talk about it all the time. Dollars or more depending on the time depending on the date and because algorithms aren't Aren't emotional, right? They is not even just dependent on the time of day is a set of predetermined factors. So if a lot of people are wanting to use uber on any point in time right now, we all hit the button on. Are we WANNA over it then calculates everybody wants Uber Charge more right? Well, then you having things like there'd be a terrorist attack people over prowse got price-gouging essentially algorithm doesn't fucking no, you know. Okay, it's flooding. We don't know that what we know is everyone wants Uber you know so. You know these things that were pitched as like. They won't. Be Biased. Absolutely. Lead to other problems that you know the idea that they won't be is led to the the. Lack of planning four bias means when you go live AIRBNB, we're not going to have to worry about racism because you ranch hall to another person. Blah and they go. Yeah. But people can be racist come on so. While it might not be the policy of Howard Johnson to say black stance leave here someone could be named Howard Johnson and say I have airbnb you can't sleep here but find out your play you know so. It is interesting. How was all pitched and created as like this message? And what what essentially happened from there yeah, and also I'm not trying to be funny. It was a utopia that a lot of white people built lilly pitched other white people with the idea that they would know racism which was flawed from the beginning like literally it was flawed from the beginning because a lot of these pitches were actually never towards us because a lot of times they didn't expect us to actually supersede. Misses, out of Renton away from racism and then we get in there we fuck up the mix and then the racism poise out then I no, no, no no we didn't expect niggers to come. We expect these Brown people to come. We didn't spend LGBTQ people to actually use these services what the web was promoted to..

"One day away from pretty darn good final four dodgers brewers. Arguably the two best teams in the National League. I mean respect to the cubs. But Petr, by the way, they've won eleven in a row and just to circle back on what Duane said to us yesterday. Doing Kuyper said to us. About the free burgers at George Webb. It's hard for me to explain what George Webb is on the California really has a George Webb would you compare? Now, you turned me on to a place a few years ago that I haven't been to a lot. But you were like saying this is the place of plays Phyllis burgers. This is more like a craft burger place. George web is like a it's like a Denny's little bit above a Denny's feel me on the Bob Evans. Where have you been to Bob Evans, although I travel all the time. I south midwest. Are they good burgers? It's like a. All right. It's like an all purpose American eatery. That's not high end. Bevan's as Bob Evans. Bob Evans Denny's. Plus one Howard Johnson's even though I don't even know if they have those Howard Howard Johnson's. Yeah. George webb. And they're like in Wisconsin, you go to jobs. Oh, do I. Yeah. So anyway, all over the valley Howard Johnson's legendary piece. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway. The point being is that if you're in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I air cheese booze and on a Friday night, you wind up at a George Webb in. Anyway, they in the founder George Webb when the when the Braves came to town from Boston. He was so excited is the old George Webb who's dead and gone. He said if the Milwaukee Braves ever win twelve in a row, I give away free hamburgers for a day. That's an old school businessman. Right. An old school business the proposer. So they never did. But in one thousand nine hundred seven web had died now his children were running the show or whatever. Yeah. And the Milwaukee Brewers one one twelve in a row, and and the city of Milwaukee remembered the pledge now showed up and they say a hundred and seventy years of George wet menu. Go into the media relations. Cooking since nineteen forty eight. Gimme your order. Bonnie. Because we're still having trouble getting Jeremy. Is this like a family like a family money situation for a thin? Tim web are former intern part of the George was the web dynasty a and that's going on or the former forty nine or pass rusher. Jimmy webb. Wow. Two nights, a forgotten guy in that gold rush. I feel like he's got it. Didn't get the love Cleveland Cleveland Elam, several heart and then Jimmy Webb which I believe is also the name of Glen Campbell's tops songwriter. Like by the time. I get to Phoenix linemen and the county. I can't I'm not sure. But I like I hop Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Webb wrote, dude. He wrote some incredible stuff. He wrote by the time. I get to Phoenix Wichita lineman, which always tugs at my heart. Good Alvis tin on and MacArthur park. I gotta tell you, buddy. Jo by the way on on the on the ihop front. I swear to God like a few months ago. My son had a I guess it was I forget what maybe a summer basketball games. Some the kids always in some game somewhere. And I was like driving. Do remember this? It was a Sunday. So it was like an early warning game. And now, I'm driving around. He's starving. I'm starving. It's like probably ten thirty eleven in the morning, and we tried like several diners out in the concord area lines out the door lines out the door. And then my kid goes eight, you know, what there's there's an ihop over here. Why don't we go? Check that place. I go, you know, what could check the flip. And we drive over there. There's no line we go in he's thrilled. Because you love p-a-k. And I gotta tell you. I had a breakfast. I just eggs and all that stuff and toast. It was good. Yeah. Happy I vouch for I like that. Named hobby. This is legit right here this. I hope was good. Should we then announce right now between Topeka copes Bonnie, Joe you and me that anytime we need to have a super secret meeting. We go to the hop lumbar not secret anymore. Now, everybody's gonna show up a Cracker Barrel. The at Cracker Barrel. But anyway, I've been good right there. Yeah. Yeah. So do Cracker Barrel. Nineteen eighty-seven the brew crew. One in my dear pal, Joel Shipman's Shuki from the PGA tour as a whitefish bay. He went to high school with Craig counsel every time I see him because you know, Craig councils, my high school class like did you told me that fifty time? He texted me the other day when the brewers eliminated, whoever they eliminate I forgive you. Even they beat the Rockies council whitefish bay. I'm like, dude. Of course, I know that so anyway in eighty seven he was part of the hundred and seventy thousand people that's the number how they came to that number. I'll never no one hundred and seventy thousand people lined up in the pouring rain get their free burgers at George. In the catch is is that the brewers have now from the end of the regular seasons of the sweep of the Rockies have won eleven in a row. And if they win game one that's twelve or back into free burger landed George Webb, by the way, we just got an update Jeremy Affeldt is officially in line. And he wanted to good spot. He can't join us today. He's got his lawn chair out there. I didn't lines. Jeremy why aren't you picking up bad cell service at the George Webb holding my spot at the George Webb in whitefish bay, right? Yeah. Totally. That's it. Anyway. So Milwaukee is playing not just to get the edge in a best of seven, but also to feed an entire city. This will probably be the hardest. I will ever rooted for a brewers team in my life. I can't think of it. So I'm going to cardinals brewers World Series. Were you in Cardi's? Oh my God. Bangers? We call them kind of indifferent about that World Series. Looking back. I was young. And I was like I didn't have any feeling either way really wanna say that was the World Series were Howard Cosell. Got in big trouble. Oh, really? Well, even I wouldn't even repeat it. Okay. Yeah. Well, it wasn't that way. You could get yourself in trouble for quoting. He compared Willie McGee to a famous movie star at the time who was an alien who ate reese's pieces. I remember he looks a little like is what he said I was ill advised by Cosell cope. She didn't know about that. You've looks a little like, where's your Rhames, reese's pieces and your Roger bicycle through the sky. We just watched that still words, it's okay. Updates interesting. Never got it. What about the kids? It's better than the sandlot. No. Now, we're done now that we're out of business e no I haven't seen any and I have a feeling I I was gonna say I didn't dislike it's not. It's not as I don't know. Moore was so cute was. Yeah. Very smart. Oh, you look back on that. Like, drew Barrymore was already partying. You know? What I'm saying? That's scary. Seriously. She was like six, I don't know, man. It's my point is that we give it her active house for this movie. Paulie, MAC, she was party. And maybe she grew up in LeBron James's. Starts hopes. We may have to go. I it sounds like I'm giving the Belichick to ET. Hey, Bill Belichick, and Brian Murphy is e an all time classic. He is a credible. I really do look up to that commitment. He has just to stay in that place every press conference. It's actually impressive. He really couldn't do morning radio. Kitty. I don't think. So. So anyway, it's Kershaw against undecided. And that's at five oh nine Friday night. And then Saturday, paulie, I'm giving you to Bonnie Jill two a day game Saturday at one o'clock brewers in its review against undecided. And then you get the big boys at night. All right. Alex bregman is getting his wish he's playing on Saturday night. Tv. It's going to be Houston Boston Saturday night Verlinden Lander sale. And then Sunday the National League's off but Sunday night, the Burs and the Astros and Red Sox go at it. Again, Garrett Cole versus David price. So those are d- price stood the here come the demons here. Come the ghosts again for dirt price. Okay. Jeremy called from the George Webb line. He's so we're gonna have next segment. Okay. So Jeremy Affeldt next on Camby are six eighty the sports leader..

"Howard Johnson's route sixty six while drugs rest area's member all those. Things do those words bring back memories of the road. Trip I have such great memories of growing up with my parents and my brothers and sisters going on road, trips whether it was when I was a kid or the disorganized one's in college where we decided to go at the last minute or some of the more recent ones that I've done as a professional road trip or if you like road trips and you've ever been on one or one, going another one you must. Read don't make me pullover an informal history of the family road trip by Richard, retiree who is joining us on WGN right. Now, hi. Richard how are? You Good Karen thank you for having me on great I wanted, you to road trip to Chicago to be. Here, but. I guess too Oh yeah. I guess but. Yeah that. Would have. Been a good excuse to get. Down there it's been a while into, Chicago but that's okay that's all right we, can we can we can talk on the phone let's talk about what was your your what, I. Like about your your book Richard. And. I did read it is you take all the facts in, the history of my The speed limits on fuss, busters, on the history of driving and gasoline and all those things and you weave them into your personal experiences as a kid driving your parents and your dad's a. Little quirks and making it interesting with anecdotes but also being educational so I really really enjoyed let me let me start by asking why we're road trips more. Common back, in the fifties, and, sixties and. They are now gosh the golden era, of Roach or what I call the golden era in the nineteen. Sixties and seventies they really have their roots going back to World War Two. Of, course, it was. Drafting enlistment, that whisked young man off of their arms and urban neighborhoods. And sent them off the train, in different areas. Of the country. You know. Places like. California Texas and Florida and for. Many of these young men it was, really their first time seeing why beyond their, familiar surroundings so it was their first time getting exposed to different areas of the country And many found. That they really liked it so after the war they kind of been bitten by that travel what they want to return some of these places, like Florida and they. Wanted to explore, this great country and of course they were having kids in vast numbers at that time it was the era of the baby boom of, course, and it was also a time of tremendous economic prosperity so these men had lots of disposable time and money and they had these new families where they wanted. To get out and explore America and that's what the travel boom the road travel don't you talk about something a little interesting that I didn't know about but. There weren't, a lot of, motels, in places. To to to go there so people, were just pull over and they'd like pop up a little tent. And people would just kind of do trespassing camping sort of I mean yeah I never knew, about, that was, an interesting, phenomenon Phenomenon called auto camping and it, really became popular in the nineteen twenties and, thirties, which was the first kind of road travel boom as people. Were starting to finally be able to afford cars and of. Course go out and explore, America in, those cars he quite, they would just you know when when night fell they would just pull off at the side of the, boat wherever they found a nice clearing farmers deal and they would just set up camp and You, know some, of the people who, own property along the roadways got kind of tired of this they got tired of people squatting on their, property squatting in their property in the morning So you know that was when metropolitan areas. Began to set up their, own tourist camps they called them and gradually these evolved into motor courts and motels you know you talk you talk about how the fifty five mile an hour speed limit slowed everything down but I think one of my favorite parts of your book is. When you talk about how your? Dad liked, to speed and how he would engage the children in helping him violate the law and. Also his issue with the with the empty gauge sides can you tell us about that Well, of course you know we did have devices to deal with the new lower speed limit back. Then you know, twice as like the fuzz BUSTER with my dad wasn't like that you, know you wanted. To be, seen as a fine upstanding member of. The community, so keep, wanna be seen as one of the people who put. A fuss BUSTER off on, their dashboard you know because that branded you as kind of a a lot greater so he involved all of us as kids you would assign each one of us a zone of the highway either in front of us or behind us to be on. The lookout for for law enforcement Highway patrol officers with their radar guns out, an e, would you know maybe yeah take care of the left hand. Side of the road himself you designed one of us the white man side another one of us would be, looking out the rear view in case anybody was trying to sneak up on us from behind Even have? One, of us looking overhead to see if there is any aircraft. That was heaping track of our our speed as. Well it became a family affair you making this sound like a sweet little memory but really we call this aiding and abetting Looking like an attorney that's right that's right now I wanna talk oh you know what? I'm going to open up the phone lines, if, anyone, has an, interesting, road trip. That they took I. Don't want a real long story about it but what were interesting road trips that you've taken that you would do again or that you really, enjoy give us a call here at three one two nine eight one seven two hundred we're, talking? Richard retail author of don't make me pull over a book about road tripping on one of the interesting stories you tell has a. Connection to WGN radio and. That's on the issue of what does that that's. On the, issue of the fuss BUSTER right Actually the, radar radar developed in the Chicago area by a, research scientist by the name of rice Kate Brown he'd actually been involved with the Manhattan project and he's? The one that came up with the technology, for, the, practical application, of, radar to. Be used by police. To determine the speed of motorists but the very first officer to actually stop somebody because of the readout of a radar device was a gentleman, by the name of Leonard Kate all the he was you know a young patrol officer and, so He, he he. Was the one who got the first motorised for going too fast he he gradually atoned for that sin though he was eventually hired by WGN radio to be there in your helicopter traffic reporter. Unfortunately ESPN of a sad ending his story because the helicopter that was monitoring traffic in one day crashed into a was a railroad yard, and, unfortunately lost his life, and in, the performance of those duties but Battalions WGN interesting and, he has an honorary street at Bradley place I think Tomen place Tom. And Thomas avenue which is very very, interesting. Give us a call here if you have an interesting road trip that you'd like. To, share with us nine eight one seven two hundred and we're we're come back we're gonna talk about CB radio motels and food along, the way for road trips you're listening to Karen Conte show on.
