Steve Dresner with W T O p Live with us, Steve. What can you add to the report? As far as damage already done there in Lake Charles, and now you may have more Well, that's true, Dimitri. Let me update the figures and actually, yo, about three minutes ago. My power totally went out here in the hotel. I would be careful not to walk around. I do come inside for a bit of safety reasons, because at one point we did have 94 95 mile per hour gusts. The hotel here at the Golden Nugget did have generators in an elevator power. But now we're totally in the dark. What I can tell you is the updated figures for power outages for The entire state of Louisiana were just over 92,000 in the state without power in Texas were just over 100,000 people without power and I'll parrot down just a little bit as Faras, the late Charles area looking at about 29,000 people without power, so the conditions still are not good. We're blowing rain, horizontal rain. There are plenty of people the hotel but right now we're completely without power in this area. What storm Surge concerns do you have there? Right now. Things have been OK. The storm surges you heard in the CBS report. Is there keeping an eye on things, but no, no horrible flooding, so to speak, And you also heard on the CBS report. Folks around here are still for the most part recovering from Laura. Um, so it is a 12 punch. As far as getting through tonight and bringing you up to current situation. Once this kind of moves North North east and we're on the West side. Things will calm down, hopefully in the next hour But we're still the only with some tough conditions. Power outages, Dmitri allotted debris on the road ways You can't even go on any of the neighborhood street side streets. One of our technicians from one, the Power line Cos told us They have pulls down in a lot of these areas, so really, wherever you are right now is this storm hits? That's where you're staying for a while. I really cannot go anywhere. We're not isolated, You know, as Faras roads are concerned, but it's just because of debris and, of course again. No power no worse staying put here. Steve of just a final thought about anything unusual. Anything else unusual You've seen because debris on the roads that's pretty bad. It is pretty bad. Dimitri and again is I said before, folks around here are still recovering from Laura. Um, you heard on the CBS report Blue tarps every word, but you asked me about things that are unusual. I think this is the positive. I will tell you that many more people evacuated the area song What happened in Laura? And they did learn their lessons. Because is a city Sean in Hillary earlier today, I've not seen a long line of traffic on westbound I 10. I used the example like on Route 29 from Howard County to Montgomery County, Dmitri 47 Miles bumper to bumper traffic. Folks evacuating, so I think you can take a positive that a lot of people left the area. We really appreciate the update. Steve, stay safe there and we'll talk to you soon. Thanks, Dimitri. That's Steve Dresner. With W. T O p live on Skype from Lake Charles, Louisiana, he says just minutes before he came on the air. The hotel he's staying at has lost power. Certainly a common theme for that whole region For the next few days, at least.

"Week the school district in Howard County Maryland outside Baltimore adopted a new school re districting plan what it does is reassigned thousands of students in order to relieve overcrowding and integrate schools based on socio economics critics however argue that it's the same kind of desegregation that led to the busing fight in the nineteen seventies a lot of people in this Washington DC suburb have been weighing in for more on the story I sit down with a basket he's with our affiliate WBAL Baltimore how about Howard County Maryland and what's going on with the redistricting well the Howard County board of education voted to approve their redistricting plan what it means is that fifty four hundred students from across the county will go to different schools in the twenty twenty twenty twenty one school year now the school system says this is all to balance the poverty rate and to bring down overcrowding in some of the schools for the parents say it's simply unfair it's going to mean a very long bus ride for some and the chance to lose out on their local community schools Howard County Maryland for those of you who don't know out there is kind of sandwich between Baltimore and Washington DC and those metropolitan areas so a lot of folks who work in Howard County either work in Baltimore or its suburbs or work in Washington DC and its suburbs so there's a lot of folks here it's also one of the wealthiest counties in the country this is going to be a very big change for the folks who live in Howard County so when you talk about how can you say it's one of them wealthy school districts in the country what is the problem why not go ahead and try to make things a little bit more diverse a little bit more equal well what they're trying to do is they're saying that some of the schools have a lower poverty rate and a higher poverty rate obviously which is this true or no matter where you go throughout the United States and what they're trying to do is just sort of trying to balance that out so all schools would be sort of quote unquote equality in the educational experience so if you go to a school now that might be under performing warm I might be at a level that some argue was good you're going to go to a better school at and what they've done is they've put kids in sort of a random drawing of things a sort of this sort of these policies are polygons that they have set set up and that's how they're going to move them it's still really on thurs aware all these kids are gonna go or how they're going to be shoveled there is a plan in place but it's weird been revised several times additionally there were a lot more students that we're going to be affected about seventy five hundred but that number was brought down recent weeks to about fifty four hundred and sherry this means that this will happen for about twenty eight hundred kids at the elementary school level about five hundred and sixty kids at the middle school level and about two thousand at the high school level and some kids who are in their juniors and seniors will be exempt from this whole process to keep it together when they graduate from high school this sounds to a lot of people like forced busing that we've had you know since the seventies a lot of people fought back against that and what it meant has there been a lot of division in this county there's been a lot of division and a lot of outcry from a lot of folks many parents have been telling us been telling me throughout this whole process that you know they feel it's unfair they don't feel they've been listened to by the school district or the school board or anybody who's making these decisions and valet were not in favor of this they just think it's going to mean like you said those our long bus rides a when you buy a house in the school system maybe you want to be close to the school so your kids can be involved in a bunch of different activities well if the schools in our way how is that going to change things and will can still be involved in those types of activities so it is a question of how this is all going to work and whether or not it's going to be equal now the other thing cherry two is when Alexian time comes on and all these folks have to be reelected to the Howard County school board and putting all of those who make the decisions here you know will they face a lot of political pressure from that as well I would think within close proximity to Washington and to Baltimore there would be a lot of people who are politically active lot of people speaking out against this is there anything that the parents can do to fight it and are there any parent to actually think this is a good idea well there are some who do you think it's a good idea and they get it I don't think a lot of folks who would say that even though they get it they don't like the way it's being done all they have said they're going to file an appeal and go to court but the school district says the decision is done and they're going to move along with the process here the other thing too it affects as you well know in different schools throughout the country you know your poverty rate and and your economic income rates is certainly affected by how much you received from school lunch money in school education funding that sort of thing so that's all going to get flip flop now and again it'll it'll stay just time will tell as to how this is all going to work in the upcoming school year thank you so much felt good.

"Week the school district in Howard County Maryland outside Baltimore adopted a new school re districting plan what it does is reassigned thousands of students in order to relieve overcrowding and integrate schools based on socio economics critics however argue that it's the same kind of desegregation that led to the busing fight in the nineteen seventies a lot of people in this Washington DC suburbs have been way again for more on the story down with a busking is with our affiliate WBAL Baltimore about Howard County Maryland and what's going on with the redistricting well the Howard County board of education voted to approve their redistricting plan what it means is that fifty four hundred students from across the county will go to different schools in the twenty twenty twenty twenty one school year now the school system says this is all to balance the poverty rate and to bring down overcrowding in some of the schools but the parents say it's simply unfair it's going to mean a very long bus ride for some and the chance to lose out on their local community schools Howard County Maryland for those of you who don't know out there is kind of sandwich between Baltimore and Washington DC and those metropolitan areas so a lot of folks who work in Howard County either work in Baltimore or its suburbs or work in Washington DC and its suburbs so there's a lot of folks here it's also one of the wealthiest counties in the country this is going to be a very big change sherry for the folks who live in Howard County so when you talk about how we can you say it's one of the wealthiest school districts in the country what is the problem why not go ahead and try to make things a little bit more diverse a little bit more equal well what they're trying to do is they're saying that some of the schools have a lower poverty rate and a higher poverty rate obviously which is this true or no matter where you go throughout the United States and what they're trying to do is a sort of trying to balance that out so all schools would be sort of quote unquote equal in the educational experience so if you go to a school now that might be under performing or my I might be at a level that some argue was good you're going to go to a better school at and what they've done is they've put kids in sort of a random drawing of things a sort of this sort of these policies are polygons that they have set set up and that's how they're going to move them it's still really on thurs aware all these kids are gonna go or how they're going to be shuffled there is a plan in place but it's been revised several times initially there were a lot more students that we're going to be affected about seventy five hundred but that number was brought down recent weeks to about fifty four hundred and sherry this means that this will happen for about twenty eight hundred kids at the elementary school level about five hundred and sixty kids at the middle school level and about two thousand at the high school level and some kids who are in their juniors and seniors will be exempt from this whole process to keep it together when they graduate from high school this sounds to a lot of people like forced busing that we've had you know since the seventies a lot of people fought back against that and what it meant has there been a lot of division in this county there's been a lot of division and a lot of outcry from a lot of folks many parents have been telling us been telling me throughout this whole process that you know they feel it's unfair they don't feel they've been listened to by the school district or the school board or anybody who's making these decisions and day were not in favor of this they just think it's going to mean like you said those our long bus rides a when you buy a house in the school system maybe you want to be close to the school so your kids can be involved in a bunch of different activities well if the schools in our way how is that going to change things and will can still be involved in those types of activities so it is a question of how this is all going to work and whether or not it's going to be equal now the other thing cherry two is when election time comes on and all these folks have to be reelected to the Howard County school board and putting all of those who make the decisions here you know well they face a lot of political pressure from that as well I would think within close proximity to Washington and to Baltimore there would be a lot of people who are politically active lot of people speaking out against this is there anything that the parents can do to fight it and are there any parents to actually think this is a good idea well there are some who do you think it's a good idea and they get it I don't think a lot of folks who would say that even though if they get it they don't like the way it's being done are they have said they're going to file an appeal and go to court but the school district and and your economic income rate is certainly affected by how much you received from school lunch money in school education funding that sort of thing so that's all going to give a flip flop now and again it'll it'll Sturgis time will tell as to how this is all going to work in the upcoming school year thank you so much felt good.

"The Cummings represents it includes farmlands in Baltimore or Howard County it covers the Johns Hopkins University campus in Baltimore covers a lot of Baltimore. Actually it includes beautiful neighborhoods throughout the city it also includes suburban areas like Ellicott City and Columbia it also also includes parts of Baltimore City that are struggling and have been struggling for a long time. Baltimore City is complicated. Some parts are well off. Some parts are struggling. There are pockets. The field absolutely abandoned once you've seen all of the sevens district correct then it's time to report on what trump set he said on twitter on Saturday no human being would want to live here in this rodent infested mess. He called the district disgusting and said that may become ancient spend more time in that filthy place. He's saying go back to where you live. Even though Cummings sleeps there all the time once you've addressed the tweets the big questions for newsrooms are where did this come from. Who's telling trump this stuff? How did he get this distorted impression of the seventh district well? The answer as is so often. The case is right on Fox News. This is what was on Fox and friends in the six A._M.. Hour on Saturday there was this clip of Cummings questioning the homeland security secretary about conditions additions the border then Fox brought in a guest named Kimberly clack who went to impoverished parts of West Baltimore and made videos of trashed lots and ruined row homes Fox called her a Republican strategist. They've caught or that for more than a year now but there is no evidence that she's ever been employed by a campaign she did run for a local county G._O._p.. Position and lost last year so they call her a Republican strategist maybe because she wrote right wing blog posts for this website for a while then she started getting booked on T._v.. Again and again again so called strategist on the hill on Fox and other shows her linked in profile pointedly says she's a commentator quote not under contract which means she's going on Fox for free earlier this month. She has to take on cummings by making web videos about Baltimore's rundown neighborhoods but I tell you all this to explain. Here's where the president is getting his information clock. It was booked on Fox again on Saturday. The president was watching and then an hour later tweeted but I listened to what she said on Fox. There is a crisis at the border but there's also a crisis in Baltimore and I don't think many people realize this but Congressman Cummings represents the most dangerous district in America she went on to use words that trump would parrot basically exactly watch. There's abandoned row home filled with trash. <hes> homeless addicts empty needles that they abused and it's really right next door so it's attractive rodents cockroaches you name it. The videos are real but they're not even even Fox's videos..

"In Howard county. That's where we head to the suburbs outside. Baltimore. There's the Wendy's. Yeah, there it is. Made it this is our first stop in reconstructing the case that Howard county police built against Brian kind. The police report says Brian met the young girl for the first time in person right here here, it is that the the victim stated that she got herself over to Wendy's in order to meet Brian kind, and they had lunch July twenty fifteen and driven to Michigan to Maryland to come to this very Wendy's to have lunch with thirteen year olds. Here. Taking a child out to someplace special someplace fun buying them. Treats child therapist, tell us it's one of the ways the predators. Groom potential victims in the evidence file we find to video interviews the lead Howard county detective did with the girl and her parents in one video the girl wears jeans shorts and shoes with bright pink laces. She fidgets as she talks all the detective leans in and listens closely in the other video the girl tells the detective that being with Brian felt protective compared themselves so Romeo and Juliet the girl stepdad tells her if he's doing it to you. He's doing it to someone else. The same detective interviewed the girl. Four times over six months learning. New details with each conversation. The detective spent months building trust with the girl and piece together a bunch of evidence.

"It's a two story motel these -til doors, brick facade. You can see kind of almost straight into the rooms themselves. The windows are covered with these curtains that look like they've been hanging there for a long long time. It's just truly a decrepit building there's a guy standing in doorway in room to forty five. That's the room where they were in. Someone in there right now standing on looking at us. Looks like the place of last resort. You know, you got nowhere else to go. They've got the single occupancy. You know, sign up front stressed. Just grin. We leave bothered by this place, and what authorities say happened here. Howard county investigated this case for close to a year. They did a very detailed investigation interviews with the girl phone records hotel receipts. But ultimately Howard county. Prosecutors sent the case to neighboring Baltimore County because that's where the alleged rapes happened. We requested interviews with Howard county police, but they declined and when all this was handed over to Baltimore County, the investigation stalled the case was open for six months, but police there added no new investigative information. Baltimore county. Police spokesman Sean Vincent agreed to talk to Mark by phone. But he wouldn't let us record his end of the conversation. Hey, I'm okay, Shaun. How are you doing? Mark ask Sean about what happened with the Brian kind investigation. Just so I have the facts right here. So it looked so you received the case in December of two thousand sixteen from Howard county. You're saying Sean says a detective from ball. Tumour county tried to get in touch with the girl's family, the next five months. Detectives say that they were attempting to make contact with the victim or the family Baltimore County records show a detective there talk to the girl's mother at least once his notes say the mother told him that she would talk to her family about next steps when he didn't hear back. The report says he sent a letter telling them he planned to suspend the case, which he did two weeks later, Sean confirms all of this there. There's no record of any kind of any contact or interview with the suspect Brian kind by detectives is it accurate to say they they never interviewed the suspect. They hadn't. All right. Thank you so much. Thank you purple. In a later Email, Sean says they never interviewed or arrested Brian kind because the alleged victim and our family didn't participate in the investigation. He says it's all about a child centered approach making the welfare of child victims, the top priority, not the success of the criminal investigation or prosecution. The department does acknowledge a better option may be to review all these types of cases with prosecutors before suspending them an experts tell us there's even more that could have been done, for instance, police could've used the evidence they had to try to force a confession the could've tried that. While still protecting the victim..

"Enjoy the sunshine today high by fifty six and the chapters Docker in Sykes Ville right now, we have forty eight degrees Westminster, forty four degrees in the news at nine this morning. Governor HOGAN lays out, second term agenda. Outrage of the day today where we say goodbye to sleepy Jeff, and he did some good things when it comes to drug interdiction and going after MS thirteen and the gang bangers and immigration issues. But on the really big stuff like the chaos and corruption at the Justice department and going after the more violent parts of the left not so much. So we we say thanks, but it's time to move on. But hours after an anti fa mob showed up at the home of Fox News host Tucker Carlson, and affiliated Twitter account published. His home address and home address of his brother brother, Buckley, along with addresses of Ann Coulter, a daily caller writer, and Sean Hannity antiga as you now know the dachshund of right wing media figures posting along with message asserting the politics affects people's lives. They demand that people that are harassing stop promoting racism, and fascism, and this this is. Very troubling. This is very disturbing and our outrage of the day number one is a Tepa existing. But the fact that our Justice department has not either infiltrated this group or investigated this group for either acts of violence while while wearing masks and hoods and disguises cannot be tolerated and accepted in a civil free society. These are the forces of anarchy, these are the forces of revolution that the Democrats would dog whistle to when they talk about resistance, and they need to be reined in and punished where appropriate and that is our outrage of the day. Let's take a call here from Tim and Carol county, Tim good morning. You're on CBS. Good morning, gentlemen. Just wanted to address. Larry Hogan's remarks against president a lot of conservatives. Trump supporters pro-life supporters and second amendment supporter out our nose. And we came out big and delivered for Larry HOGAN, all across the state. I think that I represent all of their sentiment when I say stop talking about President Trump. We know you hate him. Stop talking about conservatives. We know you hate us either. Governor of Maryland, we hired you because you're slightly less of a socialist. Then Ben jealous. And Trump is not responsible for the major losses all across the state. That that we can hang that straight on HOGAN and the Maryland GOP, he did not let these people run their personal races against their personal candidates. Here at the local level. Happened in Howard county landslides for. Democrats because they're only message wise. Hey, we're we're happy Democrats were slightly less liberal than the Democrats. They showed no vision. And it's time that the MD GOP step up and tell Larry HOGAN, hey, stop talking bad about Republican president move on. There's no there's no real need to do that. I mean, governor HOGAN doesn't have to get. Involved in national politics. In fact, Maryland lights might be better. Well off if the governor didn't because great because let's face it. If you're going to be starting to dole out like infrastructure money that is gonna come down the pike sooner or later. You're going to go you're going to give perhaps more consideration to those states that have been you know, that you have embraced the president rather than antagonistic toward him. Located there also mother national programs or components when it comes to illegal immigration, Tim, thanks for your call. Again. We've seen we've had again, we just had these state's attorney non-road county west Adams on with us. Last week. How did he do this election after look that up? He lost west lost as well. So he lost. So again, he's another victim. Good good. Prosecutor good states turning going after MS thirteen if Democrats in this state, one of haute for Democrats who are soft on crime who are going to ignore the threat of MS thirteen sanctuary cities policies jurisdictions, then again, a pox on all your houses. Because what you've done this is where this is where the the problems between the two parties Democrats will put their identity politics before the country. They'll put it before their faith. Seventy five percent of the Jewish people. Statistic nationwide voted for Democrats in this midterm election. Seventy five percent three quarters. So again, it's the same with the within the black community. It's the same within the Latino community. The identity politics is what is drilled into their brain. They don't think they just see a d you saw the signs at your precinct elect Democrats. Stop Trump save America. Look democrats. All this stuff is just it is just beaten into the brains. And this is what we saw we saw a lot of people voting for HOGAN. And then that was it. Nope. Hotels down the line except for maybe down on the eastern shore and one other race. But that was it. So again to the detriment of this estate when we come back the shameful election coverage by Fox News. You're listening to Sean and Frank Maryland's wakeup call both corner. Stable restaurants are well known for their famous fall off the bone baby.
