"Enjoy this program. We got a great one going special guests for this session is Bonnie Marsh who is founder, and I guess co founder president of MB co which is a civil engineering company, and you've really had an amazing track record. So let's start by saying, thank you. You for joining us. Thank you. Thank you for taking the time. We're very interested in hearing this amazing story what you've done in such a short amount of time. Tell me what does M Biko doing what what's that Stanford? What is what is this? Well, thank you Emiko is a multi disciplinary civil engineering firm that has a surveying component. We are civil engineers that design traffic transportation, waterline, design utilities, and environmental for mainly government agencies. And you're doing engineering work. What's that mean? Engineering work means civil engineering design on like large ditches large highways. Traffic signals traffic studies things like that big stuff stuff symbol ever mean. Little stuff. Do they civil engineer that little line that goes my backyard that wouldn't be? Yeah. Yeah. All of it. Yeah. Anything, you know, civil engineering with that means being things that affect the civilians being civil so anything. Yes. And what area you're in just the Houston area in the greater Houston area? So we do work for all the local, greater, Houston counties. Montgomery County Brasilia Harris, of course, for Ben Canty and also offer small logo minimus municipalities within Houston along with the city of Houston. So very interesting story. You've only been around about three years. All right, and you can get together three different people with different backgrounds. Lots of experience and you've created this rapid growth company tuck to spot. How how does how do you get three people to come together like that? And and how you how you put the whole thing together. Yeah. It's really fascinating. I mean, we've known each other for a little while, but we all came together. And I think what got us together is that we have we're very like minded people. We like to have fun. We love relationships. But we're also technically savvy we have engineering degrees. And so what was neat is that not one of us does the same thing. And so when we realized that we were going to start the company just kinda flourished from there. So it kind of sounds like you took all of your engineers civil engineers, actually. But you're from different diverse areas. That's correct. So you brought what someone that's traffic expert? So my background is traffic and transportation. So I've done a lot of design of traffic signals and traffic studies a little bit of roadway stuff. But then you have another partner who's does a little bit of that. But more on a exploded level like complex highways and bridges and big projects for textile and streets, and drainage, and then the other partner is large diameter waterline design, and he sees and right away, acquisitions so. Individual expertise. So you you mesh that together. Did you know each other before and how could you click so fast? Well, I knew the one partner he and I worked together many years. And then he brought somebody he knew he knew her for many years. He's like, oh, you'll love her bring her on like, okay? So we all met and he was right? You started with three three years ago. Correct. You're setting with twenty four twenty five plus now that's right immense success. It is woman owned that's a little bit advantage. But that doesn't get you anywhere. But to the better, spike still gotta get it hit. You still got to score and Mike runs. What what what's the competitive advantage? What does somebody come to you rather than that other civil engineering firm? I think the large part of is. Yes, we are women on we have all the certifications. But there's the surveying component. So a lot of other engineering firms need to include the other surveying component on their team. And so that's that's huge. That's what made it is that. Okay. You may have traffic, but you need a little more of the larger may be on this project transportation type of experience. So you bring your other partner or one of the people that correct or the surveying component absolutely and serve as kind of a big deal for you, actually work for your competitors. In that area. We do we do like I said. Our competitors is also our customers to we need them. But they need us because of our certifications that will help them potentially win the job. So where do you get your work, my notes from large municipalities like Harris County? Correct. So we do work. We got from Harris County flood control district. We do regional water. Authorities Tex dot city of Houston. Fort bend county, Harris County Montgomery County whatnot. Yep. And you get that. How do you know things are going on? You're reading the paper and gone. Oh, we're going to build a new we stay active in the community. Most definitely, you know. It's involves going to city council meetings going to Commissioner courts reading the paper saying in tune what's going on with text dots out. So I know that you don't put three people together and suddenly explode. To the business that you have there some trick going on there. It's not you're setting around you the three of you come to a room, and you start a business. The phone starts ringing. You've got a little different approach do. So luckily, each of us have had over twenty years of experience that we brought together and brought to the table. And so that helps we've built relationships, and we kind of knew what we're doing a little bit ahead of time. Okay. So it's relationships. Absolutely. So the key to our businesses. There's a lot of engineering out there to be done and a lot of engineering companies. So can do really good work. But are key to is the relationship. We are definitely relationships relationship builders, first and foremost now, I I don't wanna knock guys, you know, because they're gonna my best friends too. But the reality is that. Engineers that our guys aren't quite as relationship oriented, if you was more focused and driven and less people design, that's really one of your competitive advantage. Absolutely. We love people we love coming up with new ideas. That's also another competitive advantages that we we offer new ideas new solutions to problems that are solved usually the same old way. But yeah, that would start competitive advantages. We love we love relationships. It's also got to be something. When when we were talking before hand, I was asking about what several engineers kind of civil engineering issues the lower price, but you're going. No, no, no, we bring creativity. We bring new ideas. What's what's that about? Well, draining designing a ditch is designing a ditch. It's done the same way usually every ways, but we bring up different ideas and alternatives that maybe the client has never thought of outside the box thinking absolutely which is for an analytic. I'm a computer guy myself. I'm the same way. It's a little hard to get out of the box from you having fun playing in the box. Right. That's one of the things break. This has been very interesting. Your growth has been phenomenal and three people twenty years experience in different areas. Think about that folks put it together work on relationships. You can build a substantial company. Bonnie mosh. Thank you so much for coming on. This has been a great story. Congratulations on your success to mazing. Thank you. Thank you much. Right. So this is Jay Kurt your host for their segment, and we're going to take a break, but we're going to be right back. We got a lot of interesting stories and today, we're celebrating women entrepreneurs bright thing so stay with. This don't go anywhere. We'll be right back. There is much more business radio coming up. You will learn by the number. And now this month executive coaching corner brought to you by distance. Hi, folks, I'm Jay.
