"Hey, ladies and gentlemen, it is rare that I note something in the sports world as an opener. But I thought you would find this of interest even if you don't follow baseball. Or any other sport for that matter. So the World Series is taking place right now. Between the Houston Astros and the Atlanta Braves. The Atlanta Braves representing the national league Houston Astros who can not make up their mind which league they would like to play in are in the American League. Something happened last night. That never happened before in the history of baseball. I'm serious. I love that stuff. As one of the players said, there aren't many firsts left. That the batter in the in a World Series game be opening batter, hit a home run. It's happened at the bottom of the first, but not at the top of the first. There you go. I am sure. That at least 4% of you found that fascinating. Welcome to the show. Where we indeed do talk about everything in life. For whatever reason, I'm finding interesting, perhaps because I very close friend on the Atlanta Braves. Very special, very special human being, as it turns out. All right, everybody Dennis prieger here. There was a group called the anti. By the way, Sean, did you happen to hear what I announced? You missed it. He went out to get some papers for the show. So he's excused. First time in World Series history, a batter opened up the World Series with a home run. That's, say, see, he's moved. He is one of the 4%. And the guy who did it was at last series with COVID. So ah, so it's another first. He is the first guy to be out with COVID to hit a home run at the opening of a World Series.

"But there really hasn't been. I've i've been hardened by that that people find it to be very fair telling Including a lot of news lot of things. They didn't know of this really historic moment in baseball. And this historic scandal. What i really wanted to do is shine sunlight on a lot of things that remained in the darkness. I felt even you know year after the story initially broke. And it's good to know that he those efforts can still be rewarded in our world and finally do you think this goes away when fans are back in the stands and alto korea bregman get in the box the think fans forget. I don't. I saw it in spring training. I was doing the games. They were getting booed. People were smashing the back of the seats during spring training games. I don't think it goes away. What do you think. I don't think so either. A lot of people are saying. Oh they got a break right like if there's any any group of people in the world who could find some silver lining whatsoever in this horrible pandemic year. It's a human aspect of the houston astros because they did not have to face the music as far as opposing fans. I think they're only delaying it right. I think these guys have become the villains of baseball as dave tremblay's says in my podcast. These guys are going to have to live with this for the rest of their lives. And i think they will in some respect. I don't think anybody's ever gonna look back once such a great team. Such an inspiring story even underdog. Kind come on top. Nobody's ever gonna look back at this story the same way and no matter what they do for the rest of their careers. This has always been with these guys. It is absolutely awesome. "Before you know you're talking about korea earlier and the sinister aspect of things and you really got into the podcast about the asuka deal to get The closer that had the checkered past and to bring him on board and how inside even the astros organization the front office there. Is you know some that wanted to make that move others did not. And that's kind of. I think the interesting part of the podcast where not to say that it got to be divisive. Maybe it did. But i just explain that a little bit in how that kind of opened up maybe some of the the wounds of what happened with the in this podcast and what happened with the sign stealing sure. Well you know. My book astra ball came out in july of two thousand eighteen and three weeks later. The astros made this really controversial divisive. Move when they traded for roberto sooner great closer twenty three years old. The fastest the youngest pitcher ever to reach a hundred saves but they traded for him while. He was in the middle of serving a seventy-five gains mesic. Violence suspension while court proceedings were ongoing in canada. Because he was a manager. He was a member of the toronto blue jays at the time. And even as. I was kind of promoting my book. This is the moment where i stopped and i said man. This surprises even me. How far will this organization go in. Its pursuit of winning in its pursuit of an edge. And i think that there's a direct line that you can draw between that move and then the incident in the clubhouse during the world series last fall where the assistant general manager i yelled at a female reporter about the acquisition. Roberto set soon as saying he so glad they did it and a yelled at her in the middle of the clubhouse which created its own scandal. Many scandal that threatened to overshadow the world series in part and turn a lot of the world against the astros organization and then what came out a couple of weeks later with a sign stealing and the reaction against that. There's really a through line here of an organization that's really a willing or for whatever reason tests ethical boundaries and upsets a lot of people in the process. There's no doubt what did you think of alex. Cora getting back in the game and what do you think. Aj hinch being back in the game. I am not surprised at all. First of all i will say that unlike jeff luneau. We know that these guys knew about it right. Alex cora was one of the ringleaders of both the video room skiing and the trash can banging scheme..

"Ben ryder's the and producer of the edge six part documentary podcasts and investigates the cheating scandal of the houston. Astros two thousand fourteen. Ben handwritten illustrated cover story that predicted. The astros would win the two thousand seventeen world series which they did then. He wrote a best selling book called astro ball. The new way to win it all and now. He joins us on scoops with danny mac and ben First of all. Congratulations on the podcast. I listened to podcast all the time. This is one of the best i've ever listened to. It is fascinating What do you think about what has transpired since all this has come down. And congratulations on the podcast to. Thanks so much. Dan i appreciate it. I have a lot of thoughts. Obviously on what has transpired with the houston astros. This was a story and the subject that i had been reporting on. Had been writing about as you said for years and years since two thousand fourteen. When i first went down to houston to embed with the front office when they were still the worst baseball team in fifty years i wrote about their rise i wrote about how their new strategies and techniques leveraging analytics in the human factor to get the best out of both turn them from a laughing stock into a champion what i had not seen and what the world had not seen was where there sign. Stealing scandal fit into this picture. This is really my task and going back to the story and feeling a great responsibility to get to the bottom of what happened and contextualized both in the organizations rise and in the larger scope of major league baseball and how the game is being modernized. There are a lot of benefits to that as we've seen but there are some cost to it too and that's really what investigated here when you heard that they had cheated. What was your initial reaction. When you heard that they're really two parts to it one. I was blindsided. But like i was hit like like i was hit by kind of bricks because i spent so much time diving into this organization for figuring out what made it so i surprised that anybody maybe even more surprise when that story came out. exactly a.

You've got expanded rosters play them. Hey, we can talk. We can talk all we want. About the virus and it sucks. And it's bad. But I ask you again. "Contest for the Houston Astros. And ah Not not a great outing for this team, the Colorado Rockies against the Houston Astros. They weren't They weren't able to get in any of these games and man it was. It was. It was tough to watch, especially when you know that the Rockies are now boarding an airplane and going to be heading to Los Angeles. You take on a Dodger team that is playing pretty good baseball right now. They're taking on the Seattle Mariners as we speak, and they are currently scoreless. Jo Jo the Ah, the the options that we have here are clear, play well and pitch well to get the win. Or pits bad and get the laws is this is a company. You know, I've said it, I said at the beginning of the year. In order. For you to win. You need to play complimentary styles of team sports to get the win when we were pitching Well, we were hitting well when we're not pitching. Well, we're not hitting As well as we were, but today Ah, once again market just had a tough outing. But even in the ninth man, even the bottom of the ninth, there's still was hoped that we could Make a rally there after getting one home, but they just fell short just fails short again, and it's just It's frustrating to see this team. They got off to such a hot start come up short at home against the team that nobody in major League baseball likes. And even though no Dusty Baker is a hell of an a hell of a manager You know, I don't like seeing the Houston Astros and I wish that there would have been some penalty that was greater than what they received A S o far this year. Get him into that. And you're absolutely right. Well, I talk a little bit more about some of the bright spots for the Colorado Rockies today. When we come back on the other side, it's 5 15. This is big Alan Jo Jo on K Away News. Radio Traffic every 15 minutes here, John Morsi. Downtown drive is pretty busy as you'd expect. But westbound Sixth Avenue is extra slow yet a stall approaching Sheridan in the right lane. Westbound Sixth Avenue jams. You all the way back before I 25 they just put the record to it. Just put the hook to it and got it out of there. So all lanes are open on westbound Sixth Avenue. But that is a very slow drive. You've got some debris slowing you down. He's found I 76 25. Car fired. I mean, it burned up and burned down westbound. I 70 Genesee. It fires out now it's over on the shoulder, but slow through there and you've got a crash in.

"Sitting here to do that's not saying anything learned from my sports cliche generator there yeah so I think I think at the root of this whole thing the problem is everybody involved in the Houston Astros organization including the fans culminate I think if they had to do it all over again they would do it exactly the same way that's the biggest problem let me get a wild got going further money the fans don't get money but I gotta just say in the fun of being a fan in the whole March through the postseason and staying up and watching the games and written yet we won yes really good time yeah we can't do this all the time once everybody's cheating then well then it's not fun it's not exciting that my team overcame the odds and beat the big why if it is the New York Yankees we cheated one of the time it was a really it was really fun and then for the players and the owners are ready made a tremendous amount of money Schori advertisers got all those eyeballs in Houston C. in the you know the the the ad for the jets Houston Ford shop there was probably an uptick in Houston's economy in the wake of the win which is crazy what are the chances someone will take a beating for this five what's going to be interesting this year is how the Astros are received across baseball because every team in the majors things at this point that there was some aspect of cheating involving their players so you have to wonder are guys gonna throw what other guys in the Astros are there going to be sort of brawls or anything like that related to the Astros I think a really compelling fe I it is my belief that the Astros will set a record for number of times being hit by a pitch this year yeah yeah well I tell you what if there if you're facing a pitcher you're in Houston uniform you're facing a pitcher you faced in the playoffs at any point the last several years prepare to get one between your shoulder blades what made it maybe the whole how you wanted they did put again Austin all we there ought to be a league wide agreement listen you play the Astros first nine guys who come to the plate yet drill him and then after that you get down to the game course you will have pushed six runs across many well because you're in the right the other night it's a good plan history smiles on the principal Joe all right the victory to the bowl got a two gallon what do the Astros beat the World Series I honestly can't remember view the N. seventeen M. just recently because I'm thinking when they play each other for the first time this year's me really interesting well the Dodge airs at who would give us the last three World Series matchups since I was a little kid as a U. sports fan I can never remember the stuff six months later I don't care I it's funny and I have friends who say all man the eighty two World Series or whatever all when Jones hit the home run in the fifth game that brought the brewers back to the like what I don't remember what I had for breakfast once you get the mental deficiency you have a very brave so the nationals beat the Astros yeah most recent one that it was red Sox Dodgers noise Astros over the Dodgers in twenty seventeen Astros Dodgers and that there was a huge deal the Los Angeles Dodgers who spent more than anybody's ever spent whatever three hundred million dollars on in American to win a World Series and they lost because of the team sheet is sure to spend twenty five Bucks on buzzer since how did they not sue them for a look we spend this much money to win a World Series and we didn't because you cheated yeah yeah I suspect that it's a little bit like Nixon not taking the whole Joe Kennedy buying Chicago thing to the wall and Ford pardoning Nixon it would be so bad for the game sure if that happened I think everybody saying listen we just got a lot of line move on with our lives see that's the thing that you're dead and it ruins it for if you're just gonna look at a fans in general all those Dodgers fans would have that fantastic memory not fantastic ride that they would have enjoyed as opposed to what a forty year drought or whatever it's been since love Dodgers of have triumphed I'm telling you bring back her charger first nine got his first nine guys step up to the plate you drill on send a message imagine my that seventh rates guy he's just going to walk out to the mound and say listen hello we just fight you can't fix the pitcher for the Dodgers Kershaw I think he's the one that suffered the worst under it was you know if you have lost girlfriends or just respect from people the way he looks at himself where she will look at all because the other team was cheating he wanted to come too early onset depression and whatever in his fifties and die young because of that as existing I can never get over I can never win the big one the only thing that ever mattered to me yeah my god number it'll this is sports but the whole point of sports is a it is it's in doubt who's going to win and and everybody has a chance in London on any given Sunday for football or whatever if people cheating all that goes out the window yeah I think by the way Kershaw's fine is only getting with some underwear model or something may be fine no loss of consortium that you're listening to the best of the Armstrong and Getty.

"In to everything that has gone on with the Houston Astros is that grounds for termination is that enough to leave his dismissal I'm bored you drop the week it's not because of the fact that Carlos Beltran was a player he's not a guy in a position of authority is not a power player by any stretch when he's playing for that team will call lists of ties to Alex Cora RO Cora Lewis of the wink that Alex Corey Gavia in the one that series with the Yankees and the Boston Red Sox look I calls Belcher was always a very savvy baseball player I do believe that he had some form of involvement it won't went on but what the Astros were trying to do all is a big difference in being a player involved what many of the players are working to get age and have a look to give their age for so many years or to be a bench coach or there is a manager and because of the fact that Major League Baseball has made it pretty clear that they are not going after Beltran all as new information comes out and we find out about some sort of penalty or suspension or whatever the case may be since I get is that there ain't gonna be no punishment for college Belgium chill if there's not going to be a punishment for bell John from baseball and baseball's I'm gonna drop the hammer on like they did with AJ Hinch I like they do with Alice Cora like they're going to do I should say what Alice Cora if you need a man's record was so what the negative P. O. R. backslash you might get from some scores given goes I would argue from and how big sense the optical firing the manager two months basically after hiring him and not even given him a chance to get this spring training I think that I will get a lot worse especially when you consider the fact that the Mets we'll go no about what Beltran could bring to the table and did not go the extra mile in trying to hire Joe Girardi Mets wanted no part of Joe Girardi that the judge what he wanted the Mets so now the guy that you end up goal weight who's got ties to the met organization who is this hi respected how regarded baseball figure if somebody is not even gonna get two months to one a day I did not even make it to spring training I don't know you can handle it that way it be a much different or give me if Carlos Beltran was on the staff of the Houston Astros if you use the right hand man of AJ Hinch or Dallas cowrite in coaching role being a player I think it gives them a pass on this now the way the situation handled is puzzling to settle east think about what the Mets have going out later on today they are honoring the great Mike piazza down in port Saint Lucie name ministry down there after a great event should be a day of nice easy positive PR for the New York Mets instead the tension is going to be front center on well what are you doing we manager is the standard is a girl that's the last thing the match in eight that's the last thing I'd want to be talking about but until they get in front of this until they answer the bell one way the other there is going to be this cloud hanging over the team hang over twenty twenty for that matter for who exactly is in charge and you have to start thinking about the possibility that in water per razor Hey ma'am you'll ins or even maybe the return of Terry Collins could be something that's on the horizon all pretty steadfast few days ago no way in the world the Mets gonna move on from Carlos Beltran now I got a minute so in a waiver myself I definitely would say there is a possibility I'm waking up later on this morning or afternoon and I'm waking up to like ten thousand tags send tweets going crazy in the news that call as bell John is out the best advice I would give the meds do the situation immediately that's one and two if you're speaking with Carlos Beltran gave him in front of a gentleman from the media answer the questions you need to answer and that way you can move forward and he can run this team and worry about all ions Olinda grommet soon the gore looking like a body builder Kenny actually there I say pro two hundred forty innings and zero sort of questions and go about his business now the other big story involving one of the two New York football locals the giants in their interest in the clapper NJ Sierra element when I heard the giants were considering hiring gear it to be the head coach I absolutely hated the idea because he was an under achiever as far as getting the most out of a team in Dallas did not fit the description I was looking for which is that charming engaging charismatic leader of men but have a much different feeling I'm chasing Garrett the head coach and chasing here at the office of corner I for one have no problem with the giants bringing chasing and if he's going to be the play call if you go work with Tony Romo when he took over in two thousand seven along that way Phillips he did great work with dak Prescott his first couple years in the league he has a proven track record of being able to work with a young quarterback soul he got down on his ledger I like the fact that these guys got a head coaching experience which is something Joe judge can use to his advantage and I would say the most encouraging port of the developments on Wednesday for the jazz not only the idea of chasing care it could be in play but that big giant so very much interested and bill Callahan who was the interim head coach for the Washington Redskins and is one of the best offense of line coach is you're gonna find in the NFL okay I'd been around the block from Washington to his days within the chance to being the head coach for a year with the Oakland Raiders going against John Brunner the Superbowl when you talk about highly respected and high we recorded offenses of mines in offense a lot of people bill Callahan is right there alongside Dante's going to give the pages is a top notch offense of line coach and the giants will gonna solve that issue they can all of a sudden go about their new coaching staff and say we've added Jason Garrett as a coordinator we've added Callahan no the guy would head coaching experience thank dell'italia Joe judge when it comes to put his together staff is taking names kick **** in showing a means business I'm all for fun the giants they Gerry Callahan a coming to town and then last but not least you have the Brooklyn nets to lose to the Philadelphia seventy Sixers that story the stories carrier being basically talon management of the New York Daily the Brooklyn nets win not good enough and that we need multiple pieces in order to win next year not what I wanted to hear from carrier ring after he has missed basically toward a half three months now is just getting back off the shelf and now he's one is about giving your opinion on everything we need this we need that well carry his what I need a little bit more efficiency are you you want to run your mouth about how show March in any I can send all the people in Brooklyn should be running their team and doing their job give me more efficient performance don't be shooting thirty percent from the field against Philadelphia and after the game say while we need this we need that it's a tough luck we know the superstars won the NBA that is obvious but I need a whole lot more out of carrier being before she is like this more authority on everything the broken that state and that he is going to be the acting GM coach in all that combined into one you hear those comments if you're an event you say man before you start running your mouth and proclaim in we need this we need that if I may have found what I need I need you to do a lot more how about that that be nice places stock five seventeen here on these Thursdays JJ after died jazz is just the right here on the fan we'll wrap it up your reaction to the latest on Carlos Beltran is he gonna what's going on with the giants offensive coordinator search and having awfully tough day ones that now the lead is the radio that John's voice but it is a loss hi many awards for the radio dot com's boards minute the Mets are still mulling it over dragging it out taking their time to list all the pros and cons Carlos Beltran will not face discipline for Major League Baseball for his part in a scheme to steal sides electronically when he was with the Astros in two thousand seventeen but the after the red Sox both fired their managers for their roles in the cheating so with all eyes on the mat and a lot of pressure the Mets have been known to came to public pressure and criticism in the past but if the commissioner won't punish Beltran don't need to make a change if they're committed to an and sure he's the skipper they want they should issue a public statement supporting Beltran and then ride it out eventually the fear or will die down people lose interest in the story by dragging it out they're keeping it in the news I may be Laurie.

"How are you Tom? Great my my baseball. All teams manager didn't get fired before ever coaching game. So I'm in a pretty good spot right now boy boy oh boy this. Although the he can argue the phillies may have been better off. Had gave Gabe Kappler been fired before I for coaching game. But the not how this this astros thing is is interesting and credit to Gabe Kaplan today for hiring the first female assistant and Major League Baseball history glass ceiling Blah Blah Blah Katie sours. Good job I think Becky Hammon should be a head coach. But that's another topic for another time. This baseball thing is absolutely insane. And what did you think of. What were your initial reactions? When you saw the punishments for the Houston Astros which to give people background their general real manager and their their coach get fired? Although I guess that wasn't punishment they get suspended for a year as a result get fired the managers What is Lynch Okay God. Why so hinch and Jeff Ludlow you know Kristen ludlow's wife I'd unspent falling off the rails? What's the general managers is? What's at higher sleep anymore? Jeff knocking to work here anymore. It's like it's like blue now or something like that but it's so they suspended for year. They ended up getting fired For a more interesting and cognitive in cognizant and all my for a a version of this conversation which Greg Shire now having that actually makes sense and I use the right right names check out the underdog from earlier in the week but short of that those guys they get fired they. The Astros get fined five million dollars. I and the the Astros are fine. First and second round picks for the next two years. We also have Alex Cora fired from the Red Sox and and as you mentioned Carlos Beltran fired from the mets. Would you make all this. I mean I. I know a couple of weeks ago when the story first broke kind of called for heavy heavy sanctions and heavy. You know penalty for for this type of situation and I think we got it. The draft picks things certainly going to hurt the fines. Whatever there are Major League baseball team? That's two years or a year. Two years removed from winning the world series. Not Hurting for money losing the manager losing the GM it is what it is you know. Obviously those guys play a big role in building the team and obviously the manager the daily basis certainly helped but sure no outside of removing banner which doesn't solve anything anybody anyway because nobody cares in situations like data. I mean there's really nothing else. Major League baseball could of or should have done. It's hard to single out players. But then it's weird. Because Carlos Carlos Beltran was a player not getting penalized by Major League Baseball. But the mets chose to firem- anyway which is really weird. Interesting listing move. Well we don't know what shoe is about to drop because technically Cora hasn't been punished either we all know he's a dead man walking at this point. Yeah that's true. I mean it's funny. How the Astros just sort of like that guy did he did it? He doesn't work here anymore but he was the mastermind. It's it's a lot of. He said she said I think there. And I think it's it's kind of hard for the I don't even know cores role when he was on with the Ayrshire bench coach or whatever it was. It's kind of hard to blame him. Completely then act like Aj hinch those guys were completely out of the loop or or not involved in any way in the entire situation. Yes it's strange. Got A lot of stuff. One of the interesting astros stuff. I was looking over at the Sports Book Cook earlier today and I saw some interesting lines for who could end up coaching a couple of these teams and I do WanNa get into that but After that I want to a little bit back into this astro situation specifically because I think there's some hypocrisy going on within it and by that I mean a lot of hypocrisy going on within it so Vonda asks. Who's going to be the next manager of the Boston? Red Sox than the manager for Game One of the twenty twenty season. And the odds here we have. Ron Ron icke minus two fifteen Jason Varitek plus two fifty fifty Matt Cuartero Plus Two fifty. Tim Hires plus eleven hundred. Carless people's plus twelve and Dave Bush plus eighteen. Where's break main that money? Dan Money's on Jason Varitek all day every taste Captain Boston. The face of the Red Sox I I was amazed when you said plus money for Varitek I feel like that's their move. It saves face with their fan base. Yada Yada Yada. VR Tech was player. GotTa it Yeah Yeah No. I think we're on the same page there and I think it's also interesting the two I it's interesting to three managerial. Jobs are open on the sixteenth of January. That's pretty much unprecedented especially from these three organizations but vita also asks who's going to be the manager of the Astros for Game One of the twenty twenty season and this I think is a it's a little bit more difficult Joe Is spotted is modest one. Fifty Bucks showalter's plus four fifty macro plus five fifty Brad also mess plus eight fifty John. Gibbons plus nine fifty the Andy Green plus twelve fifty dusty Baker Twelve Fifty Hensley mullins plus twelve fifty and a Eduardo Perez. Who I would guess is the is going to be the mets coach? He was the runner up to Beltran for the mets coaching. Position is plus two thousand. I don't like that awesomeness former average going purely ex players. Yeah well. It's one of those things that almost makes the most sense. I mean awesomeness. He's been around the block a little bit managerial wise. I think he only in his last job. He only only got one year out of it. I can't think of even the team that he was either the diamondbacks or the homeless. I'm with I don't think it was the astros. But as time Baxter San Diego somebody a west coast but I think that could be a way that they go. I don't see I don't I don't see the the buck showalter would how do we. How do you sell your fans who are now used to playing in the world series in the AL every year? Yeah we're going to bring you the guy that led the orioles to like two hundred and thirty plus losses. The last two sees. Hello Yeah by the way Mr Manager of the Anaheim individuals twenty nine. I knew it I knew it was a west coast team. It's a it's a weird situation and I. I think it's incredibly strange that there were. We're not seeing players get suspended again. I know that there certainly could be another shoe to drop like I said but the reports that are being just vehemently it denied by Jose. altuve Alex Bregman and those guys are that they were wearing officers on their bodies. And can I tell you the more they look. Look into this the more that I find credence to it. And you know there's there's that video in two thousand nineteen where all the sudden you you know. Jose altuve wouldn't do the celebration. They always did when the shirt ripping celebration when Homerun He's basically like holding his Jersey down and saying don't rip my shirt to his teammates. So there's maybe something there but I I want to look at Jose Altuve as actual career and it seems like it. Breaks Down Pretty clearly when this happened. You know we go from. He comes into majorly at twenty one years old. He hits to Seventy six as a twenty two year old and two thousand twelve. He has to ninety as a twenty three year old in two thousand thirteen. He hits to eighty three with a three sixteen eighteen o BP then twenty fourteen you know. He has a Brady Anderson esque explosion and development process. Where where he goes from two eighty three to hitting three forty one with a three seventy seven? Oh be pig. We're talking about a fifty eight point increase in his batting average. It seems like if That might be a sign that something was going on starting in twenty four. I mean that is an insane. mm-hmm insane jump it. Whenever you hear the name Brady Anderson thrown around? That's never going to be positive. No now I mean listen the I looked at the buzzer stuff. A little bit today before to run out there and ref som some glorious stories glorious. Cyo Basketball but it was. I mean I find that so hard to believe. That's something just is because it's it's almost like it's almost like how dumb can you be like anything could happen. You could be diving to make a play diving. Get into a second or Third Jersey rips. Now there's was a sensor. That's just out there that people can see like there's so many variables there and ways to get caught. I mean unless they're just that cocky and confident that they're not gonna get caught the the only way I could picture that actually being a thing. It's just the only way like weird twitter account. That's been floating around around all day. Since the last couple of days that's like allegedly Carlos Beltran's niece but then the family denied it and Oh yes that was pretty critic a whole big thing said that like made accusations about Kleber Torres potentially also wearing stuff got you got Scott Brosius as a kid alleging Mike Trout Take Aga huge baseball's falling apart at the seams. Here it's nuts. Yeah Oh absolutely it is like it's. It's a nightmare scenario for this for Major League Baseball Right now an organization that already has more than its own share of problems for this stuff to come out and especially when we're talking talking about the two thousand seventeen. MVP of of baseball to potentially be actively cheating full-time. Oh my God I have. I have a buddy who actually said today that this is great for Major League Baseball. A publicity that they're getting is so great. DUDE THIS IS I. I know people say that all publicity is good publicity. This is terrible for Major League Baseball. People already don't care and now you're gonNa tell me that okay. Let's just say two of the last. Three champions were blatantly cheating and and it was all brought to the forefront and and now like who. Who's ever going to care about baseball again? This is not good publicity. It's a it's a terrible mindset to think like oh great. We're getting talked about on twitter but for the wrong reasons like this isn't gonNA drive people to watch your game. Nobody's got a tune in opening night Sunday night baseball walk. Let's see let's see how they handle this cheating scandal now. Nobody's going to care about that. It's just unbelievable. I just think it's crazy crazy to think that a guy could naturally increases batting average. Fifty eight points here. Yeah absolutely. That's not like if a guy's hitting like two twenty five or something like that and he has like awkward slump year with an established history of being better. Maybe if Bryce Harper had three eighteen next year or something like that. I don't think anybody would say oh would jump to his cheating but when you're talking about a guy who hit two eighty three in one hundred fifty two games by the way not a small sample size and then he jumps up to three forty one the next year. I also know that that's natural absolutely doing on the up enough. There's no doubt about it. No doubt about it. Yeah and then that next year up the batting average another fifty eight points for nineteen. It's just insane. They were clearly cheating and I think it was Alex. Wood was out there tweeting about how he'd much rather pitch to the guy on steroids and the guy who knows what's coming and that's your that's one of the most realistic reactions to this situation. That's out there. The steroid scandal pair pales in comparison to this. This is a this is a rock you to the core situation for Major League Baseball. Yeah this is what was it in in bonds book. He was talking about like steroids can make a bad player. Okay and okay player. Good a good player. Great and a great player. Barry Bonds Barry Bonds certainly was his biggest fan. But but I think that that's true. It doesn't like you know even we. We joke about Brady Anderson. All the time but Brady Anderson was borderline. all-star worry worry hit fifty home runs. He was an outstanding player. who was a very different player? But he was still an outstanding player in Barry Bonds on his own merits potentially a hall of Famer if he never takes a steroid yeah. This is a whole different story. Like this is taking a guy and I know you're not a big fan of your your wars and your advanced metrics and and stuff like that. But for the first three years of his career he was a one player basically which means like his presence in the lineup is worth one win above a replacement level player the next year he jumps to six point one. I mean. That's that's an insane jump and obviously like you said I'm not it's on like the biggest advance stats guy in the world and you know whatever but but to jump five points in a in a thing like that it is as you know absolutely insane for them for them to then say so. When it Alex Cora joined the Astros Pitcher Syrup coaching staff? Does it. Line up with that. I can check that I can. I can look very now but I just. I think it's insane. The this guy shouldn't be suspended. I know it's it's going to be really hard to prove exactly what happened and whether or not there were. Buzzers are not bother buzzers. He joined his Cora was only there in two thousand seventeen okay so then he gets the majority of the blame somehow if area if this sort of stuff was happening and obviously it's all alleged it's all guessing basically but jumps like that. Don't they don't just happen you. Don't it took a couple of extra. BP swings in the off season. I was in the you. Know the Dominican Summer League winner League and you know I just really started word seeing everything better like that doesn't exist. We'll these ironically. He's this is a good candidates with the Brady Anderson. I got contacts. Excuse Yeah Yeah. Yeah Yeah I can see now i. It's amazing how much easier it is..

"houston astros" Discussed on You're Wrong... And Here's Why

"Dave quit cow scheme. Welcome back to know the episode of our off season preview today, we are going to be covering the Houston Astros. We have Cody from climbing towels hill, Cody good, I'll jaw doing great. Thanks for. Thanks for coming on. And being a part of this today. We'll disclaimer we have a little audio issue going on today. So for sounds a little odd. Don't worry about it by the time. Our next episode roll around we'll be back to normal on that for new people listening to the podcast. We kinda go over each team. We're going to go over position by position basically, the meat and potatoes of the roster. We're over catcher all the way down into the starting five and the bullpen. And speaking of that we're just going to get off and start with the catcher, Cody, you're catching situation last year was a little different. You had a bunch of people on the plate. You had some injuries. You had guys come in specifically to try and beat fast teams like the Red Sox with mal. Auto who's gonna be the opening day roster who's going to be the opening day starter on the roster for the Astros this year. Those doesn't interesting one right now mainly due to the fact that as you probably are aware right now JT really Mutola Marlins has been heavily leads Astros in various trade talks, so far the Astros have shown reluctance to part ways with the top prospects to get him. So right now the top two catchers on the roster is a max Tassie. Who's holdover from last year? He's been national system since a choir from the as back in thirteen and other one's a recent Saini Robinson Chenier owes who played for the Rangers for the last couple seasons. Right now, you kinda got max Tassie, who's kind Caserta defensive wiz on the club. He was one of the best. Framers per baseball perspectives last year, then you got Roberson Chenier owes who's not really know for his framing. But he's got a pretty good bat. So if you combine those two you got the idea catcher, but. Take a guess right now. I unless something changes on the real neutral front. I I soon it's going to be probably staffy. Yeah. I would say as well in Torino's in his last year deal. We'll just kind of southern then when he can and give them a deal. He has a great contract. So he's well under controlled. So that makes sense. I mean JT real needle put this team over the top. Right. I mean with all the great pitching. You guys have currently bullpen starters. And obviously all superstars two bregman. And all those guys I can see that happening. It's a little bit of a weak point. Probably the only weak point four you guys when it comes to bats. But I can see you guys making a run for JT real Muto. I just don't know what you're going to give up teachers asking price for it, which I don't think junior should really lower either. Because you know, he is probably the best catcher in baseball right now. Oh, yeah. Removes it will be the real deal. You would help elevators tint so whole 'nother level specially in the line of, you know, goes back in seventeen the catch was a little bit of a straight because you mcken who actually of an okay, you're with the bat and then Evan got his. But you know, that's for two years later is a different look at position. And the only catch with. I if the Astros I have a feeling that they're willing to include Karl talker for real Muto. I have a deal what happened fast. But the only other concern I have in my mind is how much more with the Marlins push for and especially in light of the returns got for Marcel Zona and GIO Carl STAN last year. I imagined some teams maybe kind of hoping we'll made the Marlins asking price will drop at the eleventh hour, and they're like, oh, we really probably do you make a move..
