"Consumers research. Traveling to the Holy Land was truly one of the most amazing life-changing trips of my life. Being able to walk in the same steps that Jesus did is just an overwhelming and powerful experience that I will never forget. Trust me, you're going to want to go visit Israel. For more information, go to Holy Land dot Israel dot travel. Israel exactly like nowhere else, within S, consumers, plural research dot org is where you go to help out will and to get up to speed on this movement. One last piece of news that was on this front that was very encouraging. Sean Reyes, the attorney general of Utah, filed a lawsuit against the national association of attorneys general and that just blew me away because I didn't think that ESG would even impact that. But apparently the tentacles of this go everywhere will it's incredible that nag the national association of attorneys generals has on hold money that belongs to Utah and other states. And as it turns out, this supposedly bipartisan or nonpartisan organization is supposed to represent all the attorney generals across the country, was using that money, of course, to push an ESG agenda. And so we applaud attorney general Reyes in pushing back against this. It's wrong. It's a misuse of public dollars. And nag on either give the money back to the states or figure out how to invest in a neutral way, because right now, conservative state dollars are being used to push a far left agenda. So what will people find when they go to consumers research dot org and how can people help you the best? Absolutely. Well, they can learn more about how they can get involved in the fight. There is legislation moving through about 24, 25 states right now. We need people to call their state elected representatives and say, listen, I don't want my state's pension dollars. I don't want my states sweep accounts and all my bank accounts. I don't want that use for an ESG purpose. We need to put an end to this because I'll tell you, BlackRock a year ago when we started, they didn't have a single state lobbyist. Now they have one in all 50 states. This is going to be a big fight, but we are going to win and we need your help. So please visit us at conspiracy research not a large issue. Will hill, you are absolutely one of the most influential guys in America right now on the right on this issue. And I applaud you for it. Consumers, research dot org, thank you, will hill. Dwayne Patterson wrapping up for today, and we will be back tomorrow with the Friday edition of the junior show. Hope you join me for that. Dwayne Patterson saying, thanks a lot. I will talk to you later. Have a great day. Let's see if something costs less, but people are happier with it, that sounds like something to look into and that's meta share. Maybe you've heard switching to medi share to pay for healthcare can save the typical family 500 bucks a month. And that's huge, but it's also true that people are way more satisfied after making the switch to the customer satisfaction rate for medi share is double that of the typical health insurance plan double Medicare works. It's been around for more than a quarter century and members have shared more than $3 billion of each other's bills..

"Very strong bipartisan. Good good good. Jim talent of the bipartisan policy center. Thank you very much. We at least solved a couple of problems in the world. At least I think we did. Welcome back America home stretch of the U.S. show for a Thursday, Duane Patterson and for Hugh, we move from the unserious congressman Daniel Goldman, who apparently is green lighting children looking at nude pictures online to a very serious Republican congressperson, Elise Stefanik, who in a press conference with editor House Republicans yesterday said this about a very serious subject, cut 28. Last week, I'm proud the House passed my bill with bipartisan support. The rein in inflation act. House Republicans and 59 Democrats are rightfully putting critical checks on the Biden administration and holding Joe Biden accountable for his reckless spending fueling inflation. The Senate passed our CRA, which would block Biden's woke ESG rule. Wall Street should not use your retirement savings to fund left wing political causes. I am joined by the guy in America above all others that is moving the weather on fighting this woke ESG movement. It's a complicated issue, but it's easy to understand once you have it explained in a very easy way and I'm joined by will hill the executive director of consumers first. You can get all the you can get all the information that triple W consumers research dot org consumers plural research dot org. Will held welcome to the Hugh Hugh Joe, good to talk to you. It's great to be with you this morning. So you've been making all sorts of news this week, buddy. I've been waiting for you all week. Hound's Nichols in axios today. Has a piece about it's got your fingerprints all over it. Explain to people, give them the elevator pitch of what the ESG thing is. What we're fighting and why we're fighting it. Absolutely. What's built by its supporters is just another type of investing like Warren Buffett is famous for value investing. Well, that's what they say it is. What it really is is the ability for them to inject far left progressive left politics into the corporate boardroom using your investment dollars, your four-o-one-ks, your pensions, the federal, state, and local pensions, they are using this as an excuse to push corporate America in a far left direction. We've seen the results of that over the last couple of years. And consumers is just helping consumers stand up and say, enough is enough, stop using our money to push your politics. We have good news on this front. And there's good news on all sorts of fronts here. The anti ESG movement gains steam in the house, bill passed in the house. It actually passed bipartisan fashion in the Senate. Joe Biden is still threatening to veto it, but he is facing an uphill battle at this point because the momentum is moving away. Two quick news stories before we run out of time. The Bank of America CEO in a story I saw from Reuters this week, chief executive officer Brian moynihan said that we are actually capitalists as the anti ESG critics are gaining steam. It sounds like even B of a is starting to get on the right side of this issue. We're seeing which way the wind is blowing. Are you encouraged by where this movement seems to be going? Very much so. I don't trust the CEO of Bank of America any farther than I could throw it. Trust but verify, right? To visit him, but he's changing his tune. What did that showing is the score standing up is having an impact. We need to keep that momentum going. I'm actually headed from this interview to go to the hill where they're going to enroll that CRA today and send it to Joe Biden's desk. We got two democratic senators, senator tester and Manchin to both sign on. This is now a bipartisan movement pushing back against anti ESG. And as you noted, we put out a report yesterday that lays out a road map for Congress over the next 9 to 24 months to do oversight to call these people to account people like Larry Fink and BlackRock and other asset managers, as well as the agencies pushing this nonsense to bring them in and call them to account we are going to be out there amplifying consumer voices..

"Somebody over there. That's what's matting to me is no head rolled over this thing. They just glossed over it and said, it was a smashing success. How many people died and got left behind? It's outrageous to claim it's a success. I don't know, by what measure you can claim that. Yeah, I don't like to use the word gaslighting, but that's cast light. And what should it happen was when the president made a decision that he was going to leave, Jake Sullivan, the National Security Council, should have got all the agencies together and said, look, we're going to come up with a plan. He should have had mandate to make sure they did come up with a plan to protect American interests and equity, which included, as you say, getting out Americans identifying the Afghans, we wanted to get out and make sure we get them out. And also, by the way, and the trumps people would have done it this way. You're right. I mean, if he had decided to leave, leave in such a manner that if something happens with the president wants to change his mind or delay, you have something that we would have options. It was not there, there was the only agency on the ground that planned, in my opinion, was the Department of Defense, and they were told to get down to a certain number, and they were told to do it a certain way, and they did it. And nobody else, nobody else was doing their job. I mean, you got to laugh for cry. I really shouldn't laugh about something like this. And then the statement that we're going to have. And this is absolutely right. I mean, I heard for years when I was in office for Vietnam veterans who were struggling with the way we left that country. And we're going to get the same thing for years and years. For years for years to come. The emotional damage that was done to that whole cohort cohort of people that served. We haven't begun to realize the damage that has that has done the toll that has taken. I want to shift to another go ahead. I want to shift to a four run out of time. Peace in The Washington Post this morning by Missy Ryan. In race to arm Ukraine, the U.S. now faces cracks in its manufacturing might. The industrial complex, we've talked about this dozens of times Jim talent. I'm great with arm and Ukraine and helping helping them do the fight against Russia, but I'm worried about completely emptying the stores and having to face China. How are we going to fix this? The Washington Post is discovering that our defense industrial base is not adequate. Right. Well, you know that. I mean, Trump ordered, I think it was in his first year. I wrote a combo about it. The first real thorough review of our defense industrial base since Eisenhower. And of course, a reporter what we all knew, which is Gallagher's talked about this a lot. Yep, we can't even produce base decision guided munition quickly. I mean, there are aspects of that production line that have like a three year long lead aspect to them. And we have not stockpiled the stuff that we need. So no, you know, we're not ready. And that makes it difficult for us to support Ukraine or Taiwan in the event that balloon goes there. So real quick, real quick. Biden's budget is DOA. It's not even news to report he has a budget. The Republicans are going to come out with their budget, but somewhere in the compromise, somewhere in the final budget that happens. If we have one this year, are we going to have money to help beef up the industrial complex? Yeah, I feel pretty confident that that money is going to be there..

"Dwayne Patterson in for Hugh Hewitt, our two right after the break. Hey everybody, it's Twain Patterson is a huge show. The last time we talked, I was about three weeks into a 50 pound weight loss project with my PhD weight loss dot com. I had lost 16 pounds after three weeks. Today, I've lost 50 pounds in just 12 weeks, and have been able to keep it off for the last two months. And you can too. My PhD weight loss dot com has all the information or 8 6 four 6 four four 1900. Welcome back, everybody, Dwayne Patterson and for you at this week. I am joined on the line right now by a very good friend of the program and of all of the regular weekly guests when I'm in the producers chair that I get to talk to off air. This is my favorite guest of the group every week because together off air, this guest and I basically solve the country's problems every single week. And I'm happy to do it on air as well. This is Jim talent. Senior fellow with the bipartisan policy center, former senator of Missouri and a terrific guy. Hello, Jim. Welcome back to the Hugo Joe. But of course, we're not going to say that our off air conversations are better than my on air interviews with you. Oh no, we know we can't say that. That would be, that would be totally wrong in an appropriate. We can't do that. So Jim, I don't know if you were listening the last segment. I played a lot of the testimony from House foreign affairs, which was finally looking into the debacle that catastrophe that was the Afghan withdrawal. Lots of very powerful testimony, lots of testimony there to just make you angry. You know, the testimony of the sniper that had the terrorists, the bomber in the sights. And he identified it. He knew the threat he identified the threat. He went up the chain of command and said, I can take this sucker down right now, just give me the go. And he couldn't get it. Jim, I'm not naive enough to think that the hearing is going to give the justice that we want. But is it at least going to give information and closure to the people that were impacted the most by this debacle? Yeah, I think it has that value. I mean, the truth always has value what Redfield said in an earlier clip that we really need is the truth here. What we've needed for the last two years is accountability. And look, we can talk about the basic decision of whether we should or shouldn't have left Afghanistan. I was not persuaded that we should have, but the whole thing was a chaotic debacle in what the committee is going to find. I'm certain is that there was no effective plan. And the responsibility for that, I think, rests in the National Security Council. Nobody has ever, I don't think anybody's ever been fired over this..

"I've never seen anything like it. So here's I'm an American. I follow what goes on, the best I can. We talk to you every week. We read. We do what we can. But the cynical Politico side of me looks at this and says, okay, you have a fairly right wing Israeli Knesset for the first time in a long time after many years of pushing kicking the can down the road. They finally got a fairly conservative government and you have baby Netanyahu who was always perceived as being not as far right as people within the Knesset would like him to be. He's more of a centrist and would he actually pursue a conservative agenda. You've got the Supreme Court issue, which was unsustainable the way it was currently perpetrated, it couldn't stay the way it was forever. So yes, you're going to have a government that's going to push as far as it thinks it can get away with. There's going to be push back and at some point they're going to settle for some happy medium and that's what the reform is going to be. I mean, can't we get to that point? That's the hope. I've been long favoring mediation by our president. Isaac Herzog, who has come up with some very, I think, very sound proposals. I mean, everyone agrees that the status quo is not sustainable. There has to be reform. Israel had the most activist Supreme Court in the world, had you probably almost the only Supreme Court in the world where sitting judges essentially appointed their successors. And very much in contrast to the American system. And it was just not sustainable. They were able to agree there has to be there has to be reform. So who's the grown-up? Who's the grown-up to point, who's the grown-up to point to the middle ground and say, here's where we can realistically get to, why don't we get there and end all this nonsense? Well, a big problem is that we have politicians who hate one another more than they love the State of Israel, apparently. And it's there. The compromises are there. They can be reached. The government can claim a victory because there will be reform, and it will probably be reformed. It's more on the side of the government than it is in the opposition because that's the nature effect. But in addition, we also have the question of the very extreme racist right-wing ministers in our government who are supporting violence in Judaism area. What's called the West Bank. In the west against Palestinians. And that is further inflaming the situation. We have former heads of the police court saying they simply will not sit with the current minister in charge of the police from our Ben Greer, even extreme right wing racist minister, and they're calling for his dismissal to call the commissioner to now to dismiss his own minister from the government. So we're not dealing with just one crisis we're dealing with multiple crises. And again, it has brought to Israel to a level of ten seconds, ten seconds, Michael real quick, ten seconds. Reassure me that with all this going on that the Israeli government is still keeping an eye on is on Iranian developments of their nuclear program and won't let it get to critical mass. Well, they're going to need eternal coherence and unity in order to address that problem. I think we're going to get a sense of that. That is good news. "Does. I've seen it with my own eyes and it really is a part of my heart and a part of my life. Now. Every single day of this week, Hugh has texted me multiple times during the day not to say, hey, how are things going? Or, hey, you're doing a great job or, boy, you really suck at this. He none of that. All he's doing is, how come you're not doing enough for food for the poor? How come everybody else is doing better than you? Well, it's actually not true, but he's trying to get my goat. He's trying to get me to plead with you harder to join food for the poor and help these poor kids. 8 5 5 three 5 9 hope. 8 5 5 three 5 9 four 6 7 three. Text you to 9 one 9 9 9. Dwayne Patterson in for you. Welcome back America Duane Patterson filling in for you it this week is my great pleasure to bring in our regular Israel correspondent that is doctor Michael Oren, former member of Israeli government, former deputy prime minister for diplomacy, author of all sorts of great works, including his most recent swan's war, you can see him on Twitter at doctor DR Michael Oren. Michael, good to talk to you. Thanks for being here. Always good to be with you Dwayne. Hi. Okay, so we've got about 5 minutes here. I'm going to clear the runway and let you go because there is lots of news on what's going on in Israel. And there really is only one story that I can see in Israel right now. And that is the growing backlash in the civil unrest and it is spreading to perhaps the military as well over what the Knesset in the Netanyahu government is trying to do with judicial reform. Can you kind of spell it out for the American audience, Michael? Well, you put it pretty succinctly, Dwayne. It's just facing perhaps its greatest crisis. Outside of wars and terror, this is the greatest civil crisis we've ever faced. The government, moving fast and legislation that we're completely overall our judicial system, create a situation where the government will appoint all the judges in the Supreme Court, not unlike in the United States, but unlike the United States, the Supreme Court will not have a right of judicial review, the right to overturn a piece of legislation by the Knesset. Now, in Israel, we only have two branches of government as opposed to the three in the United States. One of the judiciary, if you sort of, if you hamstring the judiciary, then you really have no checks on government. And that's what is really going out to protest today. Not tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands right now blocking our major artery. The I alone freeway in Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv is effectively shut down today because of this. People just didn't bother going to work. And then in addition, life sentenced to the military of the reserves and one which depends the pin so heavily, you know, Israeli servant you are constricted for three years at least for ten years for women, but then you can certainly reserve, I certainly reserve well into my 50, active reserves, doing as much as 60 days a year after reserves, many reserves, particularly service from elite units and the pilots instead of they simply will not show up for reserve duty if this overall goes through. This threatens to the very fabric of his release society great..

"Mitch McConnell, the minority leader was hospitalized last night after tripping in a hotel in D.C., his spokesman said, this evening he tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner, David popp, his spokesman said in a brief statement, he's been admitted to the hospital where he's receiving treatment. He is 81 years old and if you will recall, he has recovering polio survivor. He had polio as a young child and it has affected his gait a little bit on and off and he does have some balance issues from time to time. This is not, this is not unusual for people that have had polio in their life. So prayers for Mitch McConnell, he is not expected to miss much action, at least as of as of this morning. It looks like it's fairly minor, but prayers go out to Mitch McConnell. As we do to John fetterman two, nobody wishes ill upon John federman or dianne Feinstein for that matter. Also, abroad in the Ukraine Russia war, several killed in early morning attack across Ukraine, Russia launched its broadest barrage of missiles in nearly a month, striking a residential area and knocking out power in multiple areas. This is outside of Kyiv. Three people were killed in Russian shelling in the southern Ukrainian city of kursa and also on Thursday morning. A public transport stop was among the places hit. Joe Biden has announced he's going to release his budget today that is going to have upwards of $2 trillion in new taxes. They think it's going to reduce the deficit over the next few years by $3 trillion. There's only one problem with that. It's being reported as news. It really isn't because if you think that the House of Representatives under Kevin McCarthy and with chip Roy and all the Republican members of the house that took their good sweet time in putting Kevin McCarthy in his speaker because of fiscal concerns, if you think they're going to take Joe Biden's budget and just say, yep, looks good to us and sign off on it. It's a nonstarter. It's dead on arrival. There is not a chance in the world that Joe Biden's budget is going to mean a thing once it hits the hill. It so that's news that really isn't news, but there is more news ahead that we will talk about after the break. I do want to bring to you the news that's going on south of the border in Latin America in central and South America. And that is our food for the poor campaign. We're continuing to raise money to help feed people that are starving, mostly the kids starving in a lot of these poor countries, we have a broadcaster named John Hudson out of Dallas, who has traveled down there for food for the poor, and this is what he says and why he does it. It's not us over here in them over there, but it's all of us collectively for a moment. We get to live life together. And the cool thing is, I saw food for the poor and what they did, where our money goes. And it was a beautiful thing that impacted my life in such a great way that I can't wait to go back because I believe in what food for the poor.

"But let's get to the rundown, shall we? Yesterday in the united states Senate, 33 Senate Democrats joined along with the Republicans to block D.C.'s crime bill. The capitulation of the Democratic Party and the collapse of the house Democrats is almost complete. The house Democrats who thought that they were going to do the president's bidding because he kind of signaled that he wanted them to cover his Flank and oppose a piece of legislation offered by the Republicans that would have overturned a ridiculously weak D.C. crime bill, they said, okay, yes, boss, we're right there with you, boss. We're gonna back up Boston a 173 House Democrats voted to basically let criminals out of jail even easier than they already are. And reduce penalties for crimes. So what happened? The House passed it anyway. It goes on to the Senate and in the process of moving from the house to the Senate. Joe Biden had a change of heart. There's only one problem with Joe Biden's change of heart. He didn't consult with the House Democrats who walked the plank for him first. And he said, you know, I don't think I'm going to veto that after all. What happened? Well, among other things, a democratic member of the House of Representatives got a cost in an elevator in D.C.. Crime is out of control in the District of Columbia. And even though Joe Biden in the Democrats would love to have two more democratic senators out of the District of Columbia making it the 51st state, they're starting to realize that rising crime is kind of a bad look for them and it's not going to do much for their electoral chances down the road. And they've got to start looking a little tougher on crime, even if they don't really believe it at their core. They have to at least look the part. So in the Senate, as the movement started to grow and everybody realized that the House Democrats were stuck out on a limb, not many senators, there were still 14 of the hard progressives. The Maisie hirono's and the Cory bookers there were 14 of them from the far left of the Democratic Party edge in the United States Senate, that still voted to support basically open crime in the District of Columbia. Because they think that the D.C. city council had it right. They went ahead and voted their way, but even Chuck Schumer didn't vote for it. He and 32 other democratic senators said, yeah, you know, we don't think we want to have a bunch of crime right here in the nation's capital because we've got to come to work here. And we actually don't want to get accosted. We don't want to get mugged. We don't want to get stabbed or shot. They're actually should be some police presence here. We should actually have penalties for crimes in the district. Some amazing what happens when it happens in their own backyard. So that bill passed. Yesterday, it will now go to the president who's kind of sign it because politically it's kind of where the finger in the wind is picking up the wind. He feels like he kind of has to politically. Prayers for the recovery of Mitch McConnell..

"Sal have you been out to vote yet? Yes, I was into this morning. And a candidate that I wanted to vote for was not on my ballot. Well, who are you trying to vote for? Amy, Jennifer white, she's running for House Senate seat against Teresa piers, Democrat. And I asked the gentleman after I put my ballot in the box, I told them my candidate that I wanted to vote for was none of my ballot. And he didn't have an explanation. When I got home, I called the town manager left the voicemail. I called you a show, spoke to grace. I called my local TV station W CSH. They got back to me and gave me the name of John Osborne of the DoJ. I spoke to him, he told me to call a Secretary of State, which I did. I spoke to two people there with no satisfaction. I called the FBI. I was on hold for 20 minutes. Never got through. I talked to the Jennifer white office. And ray ritcheson, I couldn't reach, but something is wrong, okay? Now, if I were you, I would call her campaign office and let her know about that. I mean, if there's a candidate, if there's a candidate on the ballot or who's supposed to be on the ballot and her name is not on the ballot, that is something that I would be fired up as if I were a candidate. So my encouragement to you, Sal, reach out to the campaign, and let's see, let's see what they tell you.

Musk has already made his mark firing several of the company's top executives, CBS Naomi rackham. Analysts say it's not entirely surprising that Elon Musk would clean house. But this normally takes months or years, not right away, not day one. This is yet another signal that Musk believe the company was poorly run and wanted to change fast. The Democrats are bringing out the heavy hitters tonight for a key and close U.S. Senate race. CBS Natalie brand. Hello, I'm Hillary Howard. And I'm Dimitri soda. So our top story is your investments, pretty good way to end the week here on Wall Street. Let's get all the details a bit of context. We go live to WTO's Jeff claw. The meat really notable thing about this week was that it made for a great month of October, still one more trading day left in October, but the Dow has gained 10.7% this month that is its biggest one month gain since 1976. Just when you thought the market said tanked for the year. Wall Street just gained ground for four straight weeks for the week, the Dow was up 5.7% this week. The S&P 500 Index up 3.9%, the Dow rallied 828 points today alone. Dimitri Hillary. Thank you so much, Jeff. Our other big story is more information about a local school bus driver arrested for doing his job drunk with student aboard. First on WTO, our Meghan cloherty reports, he wasn't just under the influence, he was driving without a license. 44 children from D.C.'s merch elementary school were on that charter bus, operated by Troy Reynolds of oxen hill when police say he veered off the road into a ditch in chantilly, not far from merging onto I 66 on the way back to D.C.. On the DMV download podcast, fairfax county police chief Kevin Davis says Reynolds blood alcohol content was .20. His license was actually revoked in Virginia because of a previous DWI and his license was suspended in the state of Maryland. So there's no way on God's green earth he should have been driving that school bus. We reached out to the charter bus company and are awaiting comment. Meghan cloher WTO news. It's now four O 5 and it's a new trend in teaching students to read, but not everybody thinks it's a good idea. "So much, Charlie pellet from the Bloomberg interactive broker student in New York. This is balance of power. Well, those midterm elections coming up 12 days now will determine which party Republican or Democrat controls both houses of Congress with effectively a majority right now for the Democrats and Senate with a 50 50 that is broken in a tie by Kamala Harris vice president and a narrow majority right now for the Democrats in the House of Representatives. One question we should all be asking ourselves is what difference does it make? How would it really change our lives? How would it affect the economy? I would have affected the companies. I would affect financial institutions. Well, someone who's taken a look at this question and who has a lot of experience analyzing things just like this is normal ornstein. He is senior fellow emeritus of the American enterprise institute, and he's written a piece for the Atlantic called how far would a Republican majority go, norm great to have you, particularly on a subject like this because you are so very thoughtful about this. We've had Republican majorities goodness knows in the past. Why is this time different potentially? You're exactly right, David. And we've had divided government many times over the past. And even when it gets contentious, we still find opportunities to make it work. But this is different. Just to use an analogy, when the Tea Party movement stormed into Congress with the 2010 election, the first midterm of Barack Obama. And egg Don by their own leaders, Kevin McCarthy and then majority whip Eric Cantor. They forced a confrontation over the debt ceiling. And we've had those before and parties have played politics with it, but we came dangerously close to default, while they demanded radical cuts in different parts of government. And if it worked for John Boehner, the speaker who saw that this would be disastrous and Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican minority leader who believed it would be disastrous for Republicans as well. We probably would have gone to default. Jason chaffetz then one of the radical Tea Party types in the House said, yeah, we would have taken it right over the edge. They didn't. But this time we have far more people who are radical coming in just to use as a template, a 126 House Republican candidates with a 95% plus chance of winning tells us 5 38 dot com. Our election deniers, which is a good kind of shorthand for radical. They will be a majority of the majority of Republicans have the house and they've already signaled that they're going to use the debt limit to make a series of demands that are not going to be acceptable to Joe Biden or Democrats, including impeachment of Biden, cutting Medicare and social security and Medicaid and probably firing the secretaries of secretary of Homeland Security and the attorney general. And it's not out of the question that they could lead us into the abyss. So one of the reasons it's so wonderful to talk to you. You have so much experience watching things develop in Washington. There have been a lot of people who talk big before there are real consequences for it. What is the possibility likelihood that even if there are probably to get the majority and even if what you call the radical people really say, yeah, let's go against the debt ceiling and they don't mean it just to get something out of it. They actually mean let's keep the debt ceiling where it is. That the markets might give them a lesson otherwise. Didn't we see a version of that in the United Kingdom in the last two or three weeks? We certainly did in the United Kingdom, although we don't have a mechanism for removing leaders in the same way. And we saw a comparable thing in the collapse in 2008, David as we headed right towards the election. And you remember back then, the Tea Party types balked at the bailout that the president George W. Bush, the treasury secretary Hank Paulson, the fed chair Ben Bernanke, and all of the Republican leaders said, we got to do this or we'll head into a depression. And it failed. With the majority of Republicans saying no, then the Dow dropped more than it ever had in a single day over 700 points seems quite by now. And they came back and supported it. So there might be a severe enough market reaction, but remember, it's one thing if you fail first to pass a debt ceiling increase or pass a. Still with us norm. It sounded like he was kidding another call coming in. I'm not sure. I had a little glitch there. Yeah, that's okay. We all have those norms. Go ahead. Yeah. It's one thing if you fail one time to pass a bailout and then come back the next day and do it. It's another thing if you have a default. And remember that when we came close to the last time in 2011, David, we didn't go over the edge. But we came close enough that it actually resulted in enough of an interest rate increase that it actually costs the government consultants suggested 18 or $19 billion cost taxpayers to fall would be for the first time ever and it would be catastrophic. Let me say, it's not the only thing we have to be concerned about it. And you hope that if

The latest hit equipment and central areas of Ukraine, according to the country's grid operator, millions of people in Ukraine have been without power since Russia began stepping up its attacks, targeting power substations and other infrastructure earlier this month. This is just the latest event where Biden will celebrate planned investments in microchip manufacturing. After he signed the bipartisan chips and science act earlier this year. But a White House official says Biden will also draw an economic contrast with Republicans, saying these midterm elections are a choice between two economic agendas. This has been a theme of many recent Biden speeches, but he's putting a finer point on the contrast, is voting begins in many states. Tulsi Gabbard Spent 8 Years in Congress As a Dem. How Has She Changed?

"Walk us through, you know, the last couple of years. Have you changed at all? Or, I mean, have you gone through any metamorphosis? Or is it just the conditions of the party and the country have changed? I think both it's hard to disconnect the two, there's no question that I have been very disheartened and discouraged by the direction that the Biden administration has taken since that 2020 election going against everything that he promised he would do as president trying to bring the country together and find ways that we could work together, but instead he and his administration and their allies in Congress have done have done the exact opposite and they're trying to tear us apart. They're finding ways, both directly and indirectly to undermine our fundamental freedoms, working with big tech to do so, deciding whose voices get to be heard and whose don't. And using the rule of law to do so I think that that is one of the most dangerous things. It's one thing to say, okay, we can disagree on policy, but for them to be in power across the board in the House Senate and The White House, they are actively using our institutions like the Department of Justice, the FBI Department of Homeland Security go down the list to force force their positions on the American people with the threat of if you don't comply, then you will be targeted. I think the recent example of what they're trying to do with backdooring, changing the definition of monumental legislation entitle 9 rather than going to Congress and putting their position before the American people and telling Congress to take action on it, their back during this rule change saying, no, it's no longer going to be about the definition of sex that there are biological differences between male and female, the male and female sex. Instead, they're saying they want to include gender identity. So anyone can be whatever they want to be. And telling schools, if you don't comply with this, rule change, not something that was done by Congress, but a rule change, then we're going to take a federal funding away from kids who are hungry.

Should We Lift Sanctions on Iran?

"Congressman waltz, let's turn to Iran yesterday the president of Iran was invited to the UN. I don't know why he got it. Visa, he came and he threatened Israel in America and held up a picture of the now dead Soleimani who was in Iran in Iraq trying to kill Americans. What did you think about that and what is the law that you propose law that you in the senator of introduced? Well, on top of the supreme leader having to be the sons of all of his inner circle, are going to school in America. They're enjoying student visas. They're hanging out at Harvard and for instance. So it's a broader issue of what we're allowing to come into this country and these thugs that we're allowing to come into the country and the rich elites in Iran. However, the bottom line of the legislation I'm really proud to work with senator Ernst on this is twofold. One, we don't lift sanctions on countries that are holding Americans hostage, trying to assassinate American officials of John Bolton Mike Pompeo, Robert O'Brien and others. And oh, by the way, wounding an attacking American soldiers as they just did in Syria through its proxies. And then two, we have to codify the sanctions on Iran on its financial industry as energy industry. It's inner circle because my fear, my biggest fear of these negotiations is that Biden somehow tries to tie the hand of a future administration, which is unconstitutional and wrong by giving Iran through Russia. Some type of deal that if a future administration said, this isn't in our best interest would tie their hands.

How Should We Respond to Putin?

"Was going to talk to you first about Iran sanctions, but I have to begin and I'll begin with you, senator Ernst, on Vladimir Putin's threat yesterday to use nuclear weapons. How should the United States respond to that? Well, of course, when you look at where Vladimir Putin is threatening the west, he always threatens, of course, where we are weak. And that's either on our energy policy or our nuclear policy. And so despite what Biden is doing, always retreating, what we need to do is make sure that we have a very strong commitment to rebuilding, expanding our nuclear capabilities, making sure that we have a strong U.S. deterrent. So this is really important to us. We should unleash American energy, but then also make sure we've modernized and expand our nuclear capabilities.

I can tell you it's many times that number, she said, oh, he valued it at 75 or whatever it was or she valued at 75. What does letitia James know? But if I were going, I don't have a mortgage in this forever. If I was going to put a mortgage on this property, the institutions are going to be coming over, they're going to go through comparable properties all over Palm Beach or whatever it is wherever it may be, Miami. Dana Spiotta Talks About Wayward

"Deana spilled a joins us now. From the catskills. She is the author of many novels including innocence and others lightning field and stone arabia and her latest book is called wayward dana. Thanks for being here. Thanks so much for having me pamela. So this book begins with a house. Why what is this house. And what role does it play in the novel. Well it's a falling down arts and crafts house. That's in the city of syracuse. The main character. Sam has a habit of going to these kind of open houses. With no intention to buy and she finds us wreck of a house and syracuse you can actually buy houses for forty thousand dollars thirty thousand dollars that are completely falling apart and she just impulsively signs a contract for this house senate. Only when she's driving home that she realizes she's going to leave her husband and her entire life. And i think one of the questions that drives the novel in the beginning is why does she do this really reckless thing with her life and and i think she falls in love with the and i am part of me was thinking of writing a midlife person blowing up their life but i didn't want it to be because they fell in love with a younger lover which seems kind of cliche. I thought we're done with that. We're dealing with no this house. And i think the question is what is the house speak to her and i guess it wasn't what i was writing it. I didn't think about it as much. But after i thought okay. The house is hiding in plain sight at you could ignore it or you can look closely and see the beauty there and i think she's she thinks it speaks to her and she's the only one that can still see that it's beautiful and so maybe that has something to do about the state. The cheese in or that. Her life is in to that. She needs to kind of look at her life in a different way so she can see what's still beautiful and what still needs work. Maybe

Every employee has to do support to every employee has to work with customers which creates huge incentives to reduce the support volume because otherwise everyone has to do support for a bunch of customers. All the time. It's just a way of saying. Look if you wanna have a lot of autonomy in your job in a part of that is due to raise the automation and raised of the work. You have to do right if you're an engineer. Not just pushing pixels on the website. It's like no. You're you're building ice engine for the receipt architectures you don't actually have to hire employees to read receipts and that's a totally different skill set and it raises the bar and has allowed them to get to immense profitability and scale with almost no people. It's honestly a lesson for any founder listening right now if you're struggling with recruitment start having opinions and start having takes the way that startups are built. I would love to see not anyone to copy. And i just wish there were more companies that were willing to be original in how they built their organizations. I just think every company is the same. I every time. I hear about culture. I ruled by the way on easy ones that we never cover the culture story. Yeah i was going to say when i mean by that is almost all companies are the same. All of them are the same if you again because of that. Silicon valley growth patterns. Is your thousand employees. You've just downloaded the michigan silicon valley workplace culture ethos almost guaranteed even international companies. Expand to the us the same thing. There's no way to get past this. And i just think that expensive is one of the few examples of a company that we saw were like they just keep rebuilding and doubling down on. We're going to do something unique and different and that's super interesting. But i wanna talk about one more thing the tech stack. We don't talk about tech very often on the show But this is another example of a place where the most companies use off the shelf tools..

"You know we have so many defaults when you go from coming to company but that just because people just borrow from each other and they just using the same models over and over again like of course you must have. Engineers and senior engineers and architects and vp's of engineering and you have to have this hierarchy and this is the only way to go about doing it but that's just because no one ever bothered to try to find another solution. So what i love about. Expensive is k. compensation Okay their managers. They're gonna give promotion ratings based on those ratings. You're going to get a bump. You have a promotion committee or whatever. Expensive is chosen to do this sort of revealed preference. They've done sort of a game theoretic model to say okay. What's the best way of revealing. What people's salaries should be. I don't think anyone's getting a salary. Cut ya to be clear. I don't think. I wanna say it's literally floor but i don't think it's like yes or no it's more like who are the people who were most valuable to what you build this year and the idea from the company's perspective is there are all these engineers who let's say put their heads down. Do the work do great work. We're gonna couple different teams but if that's not a priority to the company if david didn't see that directly you're not gonna get coveting the same way as being in that visible project you are in a lot of big companies. Yes the idea with this sort of model is to say. How do we make sure that gets compensated fairly even if they're doing saying that's not sexy. That doesn't necessarily reach aboard but super important to the company right. I feel like my immediate thought is how does this impact underrepresented people and minorities who may suffer from bias or definitely are suffering from bias everywhere in the world and i think like there has to be ov intention there because if if it all comes down to voting.

US House Passes Bill to Make Washington, DC, the 51st State

"For the second time in history the house passed legislation. That would make washington. Dc a state. Bill passed along party lines. And the partisan interests here very clear right statehood for dc would mean at least in the short term probably adding two democratic senators. Of course democrats have been very obvious. Interest in making that happen and republicans are dead set on opposing it but democrats also have a very basic persuasive argument here about representation. I mean there's seven. Hundred thousand of our fellow. Americans who live in dc and have no voting representatives in congress. House senate meaning. They have a delegate they can elect to congress. That person does not actually get to vote on anything. Republicans will they don't really have any good arguments against it as you can see whenever they come out to defend their position with dc statehood. Dc wouldn't even qualify as a singular congressional district. And here they are. They want the power and the authority of being an entire state in the united states. Now that's a little bit of a tough sell as an argument to make while standing right next to congresswoman liz cheney representative for wyoming single at large district representing a hundred thousand fewer people than the population of dc. Steve scalise louisiana. who wants famously likened himself to former. Kkk leader calling himself. David duke with the baggage. Scalise sounding this racist dog whistle about the crime. Rate in dc quote. Why should the district of columbia be granted statehood when it can't even perform basic mental duties like protecting its residents from criminals.

Outgoing Capitol Police chief: House, Senate security officials hamstrung efforts to call in National Guard

"The former capital police chief. You remember this guy. He was can the next day or was asked to resign. He did. He said he requested that. The national guard be placed on standby in the days before the deadly riots the capital but both house and senate security officials said. No don't do that. This is why. I wondered why the house and senate sergeant at arms were dismissed. As far as i knew they only walked in the chamber and bellowed the president of the united states once a year. They're actually security for john. Admit i did not know they had the actual job. He told the washington post he had been concerned that the protests planned for january six would be larger than expected and he asked house and senate security officials for permission to request that the national guard be placed on standby sunset said house. that's the guy's name stevenson. Said house and senate sergeants at arms told them they were not comfortable with the optics of declaring an emergency days before the protests and suggested sunshine in italy ass guard officials to be on alert both have since resigned sunset. He pleaded for help five more times as the riot. Unfolded crowd of several thousand quickly overran the capitol police contingent of fourteen hundred officers. He said if we could have had the national guard we could held them at bay longer until more officers from our partner agencies could arrive. "Though you know At the camp country is happy and the other literally 70 million people voted for Trump 77 million people voted for Biden. We have a true half the country happy. Have country not I'm telling you right now, I don't care who your person is. Trumper Biden when we have checks amounts with House Senate and the White House when we see that one side doesn't control everything. It's something good when, when, when? Washington D C cannot pass everything they want to and the stock market and we as the people of America. You know, I think we'd welcome not a lot of change crazy change, especially if it's gonna affect her taxes. Um, So I think that's very positive. And then the fact that maybe we've got got a vaccine that's about to hit. Um I looked at stocks like Southwest Airlines today in Carnival Cruise lines, They went up. Astronomically today. Air this week in and why did they do that? Not because there's fact scenes out tomorrow. By the way, folks, it's not. It's going to take time. It's going to roll out first, too. You know those people that are in harm's way? Two nurses and doctors into nursing homes and assisted living facilities. But it will. Eventually the market loves and this is hard for some people have realized. The market loves to think ahead. And so Typically, we see moves early because they know what's going to happen. If we have a vaccine that 90% resistance once you take it We're gonna have a booming economy again and we got a lot of pent up demand. We got a lot of money on the sidelines, waiting. And so big mistake not to be in the market. I feel, um How much you're in the market depends on our meeting pins on How far away you are from retirement. What your age. What Your risk, hollered says there's lots of things to consider there. That you better have a game plan. And it's not good enough to, uh Have the plan they buy Hold. Don't do that. Things have dramatically changed on the last few weeks. Um, you know, depending on who is in the White House in January. Um Defense stocks. Maybe a great thing. The owner there may be a terrible thing down. Pharmaceuticals. Maybe a great thing know there may be a terrible thing the island so You do not need to have a buy whole strategy. You need to have an active managed somebody that's gonna be your coach. And that's what we do best. Yeah, those last five years before you retire, obviously critical. I mean, things you do up to that point are going to make a big difference to But today at Michael, I like what you've chose. I like your tax. Let's look at the last five years. And what you need to have taking care of it Leased by then, eh? So let's look at that last year when you're about one year away from retirement, that magical last year of work, what what should we be focusing on during that period of time? You know, at that point, you're so close to the end of the road that you're probably feeling a little bit of getting. You know, Tony about getting able to actually retire. You know your toes, maybe wiggling in your shoes. Askew. My kind of flashes. I think I think we have daydreams during this time. You know, maybe maybe sitting on the beach and with your love one and and, uh, And enjoying the sunset. Well, those that's the feeling we have. When we're we can see it coming. You know, we worked a lifetime for this, and I think what there's nothing wrong with having those kind of thoughts. I think it's actually important to do that. You also need to keep yourself on track. You know, this last year work is where I can really help you in assist you in getting ready so that you will have zero stress when you actually retire because Yeah, Here's what goes through your mind. Oh, my goodness. I am not going to get a check from X Y Z. Yeah, I've been getting a check from explicitly for years and your spouse, You know, it's like, Okay, well, where is this money coming from? And And, uh, can you imagine if you had all your money? In that 41 K. You left it with you. Had it invested the way you did. When you were in your forties, it was at risk. And a. You know, a 1987 happens. Ah, year not 2000 happens. The 2008 happens or 2019 happens and you watch your account dropped by 25. Already 50% the sheer panic. Of a lifetime of work evaporated within days or weeks. Not knowing if it's going to come back or not, And worse than that, Tony because now you're in retirement. You can't just set it and forget it and wait for it to come back. You have to pull money out to live in your doing. What? We've heard all of our lives the wrong thing. You're selling when it's down. What's that, saying? Buy low sell high. So Yep. The this last Five years and as we rolled along in this conversation this last year What I want you to keep in mind is to be Village I want you To keep in mind that now is the time to keep your eye.
