"Psalm 27 9. Some 27 was written by king David. In his lifetime, he endured many circumstances, which watered deep roots of faith in God. His courageous faith came from the relationship he developed with God. That's faithfulness gave David confidence to cry to him for help in many circumstances. And we can too. In this song, David is sharing his courageous trust in the lord. Ashley hooker wrote in or reminders from song 27 to build a courageous faith. He writes words from his heart that tell us how confident he is in the lord. He seeks out the lord for his blessings in his protection. Trust is something that once lost is difficult to recover and restore. God will never do that to us. He is not capable of breaking or betraying our trust. He is I am. Creator of the universe and the one true God. He is who he is. He does not change his character, or his mind about us. What he says, we can hold on to for dear life. In all hope. As we pray psalm 27 today, remember the following facts God loves you. God has good plans for your life. That sent his son Jesus? For you. Jesus came to earth for you. Jesus died on the cross. For you. Jesus rose from the dead, and now sits at the right hemp to the father. Interceding for you. Jesus sent his Holy Spirit to you. The moment you surrender your life to him, the Holy Spirit dwells in you. The spirit gives you power to get through impossibilities. You are never alone. What this reality in mind let's pray, psalm 27. Father, you are my light and my Salvation. So why should I be afraid? Lord, you are my fortress, protecting me from danger. So why should I tremble? When evil people come to devour me. When my enemies and foes attack me. They will stumble and fall. Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident. The one thing I ask of you, lord, the thing I seek most. Is to live in your house lord. All the days of my life. The lighting in your perfections and meditating in this temple. Are you will conceal me when troubles come? You will hide me in your sanctuary. You will place me out of reach on a high rock. Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me. At your sanctuary, I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy. Singing and crazing you, lord, with music. Hear me as I pray award, be merciful and answer me. My heart has heard you say, come and talk with me. And my heart responds, lord, I am coming. Do not turn your back on me. Do not reject your servant in anger. You have always been my helper. Don't leave me now. Don't abandon me, O God of my Salvation. Even if my father and mother abandoned me, the lord will hold me close. Teach me how to live Bo lord. Lead me along the right path. For my enemies are waiting for me. Do not let me fall into their hands. For the accused me of things I've never done. With every breath they threatened me with violence. Yet I am confident I will see the lord's goodness. While I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes. I wake patiently for you, lord. Then Jesus name, we pray. Damon. Your daily prayer.

"And I'm Susanna Palmer in the Bloomberg newsroom, a bit of a mixed picture for Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. The company reported quarterly results today. Berkshire's underwriting businesses took a hit as inflation continues to weigh on Berkshire's operating units. Berkshire reported a $962 million loss on insurance underwriting in the third quarter. That's the worst quarterly loss in a year. Auto insurer Geico took the biggest hit among its insurance businesses with a pre-tax loss of $759 million. The broader insurance industry has also had to deal with the aftermath of hurricane Ian. Still, Berkshire's other operating unit, which include railway BNSF alongside utilities and energy operations were otherwise profitable. Operating earnings overall clocked in at $7.76 billion, a 20% increase from last year, with foreign exchange gains tied to debt not denominated in U.S. dollars. Max Reyes covers Berkshire for Bloomberg news. Obviously, the U.S. dollar is incredibly strong at the moment. It's been strong for much of this year, which drove some of that. But also, I mean, the company is continuing to perform for the most part through a difficult sort of economic period. The way one person phrases to me is that, you know, it's showing resilience in the face of inflation. And while it is starting to feel the effects, it's obviously still progressing. Berkshire repurchased $1.05 billion worth of its own shares in the period and is sitting on a cash pile that totals $109 billion. Well, the world's largest marathon will be back in full force for the first time in three years tomorrow with 50,000 participants set to travel New York City's 5 boroughs as thousands of spectators cheer them on. You're listening to masters in business with Barry riddle's on Bloomberg radio. I'm Barry Rahal's you're listening to masters and business on Bloomberg radio. My extra special guest this week is Edward Chancellor. He is a journalist and financial historian as well as an investment strategist. His latest book is the price of time, the real story of interest. So again, we see auspicious timing on your part to put out a book on interest rates in the middle of 2022, the most rapid increase in inflation since the 1980s, the fastest rising set of rates from central banks, I think you could say ever from zero to three and a half on the way to four, four and a half percent, your timing is quite auspicious. When did you first start thinking about, um, maybe it's time to write a book about interest rates. Well, quite a long time ago, I think I got interested in the whole subject about a decade ago. And I felt when I did this work on the credit boom before the financial crisis. I belonged to the school that thought that when the Greenspan fed took U.S. fed funds rate down 1%, after the dot combust, that ignited in my mind the real estate bubble. Obviously a giant factor has anyone actually made a case to say, no, no, keeping rates under 2% for three years and under 1% for a year had no impact on real estate. I mean, it's not the only factor, but it's pretty hard to say, oh, no, not relevant. The fed under Nobel, laureate Bernanke. We all know that's nonsense. Yeah, I just need to write about that in this new book where money flows off to the emerging markets when dollar rates are low, and then it comes back. Because these guys are not saving, they're actually just buying long dollars. Treasuries. Right. They're buying them to manipulate their currency in China most of all. But then, you know, I spend different meats that has a sort of abstract view of economics, which I try to look at what's going on in the real financial world. Although to be fair, for an academic, he actually got to put his theories into practice, his fed chair. Yes, and that's. Was it 99 Milton Friedman's 90th birthday? And it pat's 2002. Friedman's 90 birthday party in the fed Bernanke says, you know, facetiously to Friedman. Apologizing for The Great Depression on behalf of the Federal Reserve and ensuring that it won't happen again. And then 5 years later, we get meltdown. In the fed had in particular Ben Anki, had no inkling of what was about to happen. And then we didn't get a great depression, but we then got into this era, of extremely low interest rates. And of quantitative easing, and that was associated with a period of what they call secular stagnation or extremely low growth, and we never really got out of that until the pandemic. Well, we didn't get out. I mean, the pandemic was just the last gasp when they went back to quantum easing, and they really became the House of lords, British house lords raid a report on quantities lastly, which they called a dangerous addiction. And Bernanke introduced the financial dope and they went off to work for hedge funds or whatever he does nowadays. He's a consultant. Right. They can solve. "The pandemic was just the last gasp when they went back to quantum easing, and they really became the House of lords, British house lords raid a report on quantities lastly, which they called a dangerous addiction. And Bernanke introduced the financial dope and they went off to work for hedge funds or whatever he does, that is. He's a consultant. Right. They consult. So let's bring this back to the book, which is really quite fascinating. You start in Babylon with the origins of interest and you go straight through the most recent boom and bust, how did the concept of paying interest on money begin? Well, if you look at the words in the ancient languages or all the words for interest, a link to calves and lambs and kid goats and the idea was, you know, I'll lend you my cow, but a year later I want the cow and a calf back and you can keep. If it has a nail, you can keep the milk. Now you can keep the extra cars. And as I cite in the boat, you know, Americans were still at the beginning of the 20th century. Out in the Midwest or whatever, people were still lending livestock and demanding interest payments in the offspring of the livestock, and my reason for going back to that point is to try and underline how important the function of interest is, in fact, the Yale historian William kurtzman says that the invention of interest is the most important invention in the history of finance, but was it allows people to transact across time. And my thought, when I was doing this work, is we're at a moment of zero interest, and of negative interest in many countries, and that the zero negative interest were the sort of second most important development in the history of finance, and possibly the most my mind worrying development. Coming up, we continue our conversation with Edward Chancellor, financial historian, discussing the price of time. I'm Barry rittch, you're listening to masters in business, on Bloomberg radio. "My cable means that there is by two came. I mean legislatures was basically like a real great basic spied a body a deliberative group that you elect the people elect directly right sit in the house of commons is the house of representatives. Russ their their direct directly elected by the people into federal office and bum. There's certain jurisdictions for each member on like the presidential a leader of parliament that just has blanket jurisdiction essentially In the house of commons. So that's kind of like our house. Representatives not like the senate where there's two each state you don't have you explain each party right now. The house the house of commons and the house of lords which is like the united states house of representatives. The united states senate. Yeah but in uk. They called the house of lords. How's it comes in the house. Lord saint news commoners plebs if you will please lobster. There's an abstentionist party. What is so h. m. government. I'm guessing that means her majesty's government pretty sure there's so there's the conservative party which is the vast majority. There's three hundred sixty three conservatives in at a six hundred fifty seats three hundred sixty three or conservatives One hundred ninety nine or the labor party and that's like they're Liberal wing and conservatives were in blue. the labor party's read. Probably you're thinking of when you had senate they're back with a democrat. Usually blue others are back. Republicans usually read it's opposite for the uk. Right labour party's blue in red in the conservative party. Which is the more obviously conservative party. Republicans in blue then. There's other opposition. So they call it her majesty's government which is the leading the majority and then her majesty's most loyal opposition say most loyal because you can't obviously be like traitorous opposition so the most because everything is so proper in the uk and in there's other opposition. Which is the biggest other opposition between besides those two parties. There's about six of those five of those The scottish national party. There's forty five of those because remember. Scotland is basically his own state within the united kingdom. There's the liberal democrats. Which is i guess super. Left-wing was the democratic unionist party. I.

"Up. Your newest area. Don't don't worry about that. You never never heard that. Just forget about it forget. Forget about it back to the narrative queen elizabeth of part of the house of is part of the house of windsor. Windsor has accomplished much as far as rulers go again. Because it never really ruled. They've only had ceremony and got roles and government after the parliament act passed nineteen eleven like i mentioned earlier. The house lords lost the last real political power. They had the ability to veto legislation. Now they can only delay it which is funny to me. Now they can just be like. I don't like it. In the house of commons six hundred fifty actual elected officials can be like we. Don't fucking care all right then. Carry on During elizabeth's reign has actually been taught at numerous points of abolishing the monarchy altogether beginning in the late nineteen sixties british polls time revealed. The majority of people believe that the monarchy was an out of touch anachronism a needless and useless relic of a bygone era. Try and improve their image. The royal family participated in one thousand nine hundred eighty nine tv documentary titled royal family to open up more to the public and the response was divided. Ever since there have been occasional grumblings calling for the monarchy to be abolished. Have them advocate to thrown. Is that ever happened. The windsor family would lose other assets. Buckingham palace windsor castle. They don't actually own a lot of these properties anymore. They're owned by trust of sorts. And should the royal family ever lose the royal titles ownership of those properties would revert to the state queen. Elizabeth does privately still own a lot of land though such as a ball battle moral battle moral castle and the scottish highlands in this. Gotta thailand and Sandringham estate norfolk. So she's gonna be she and her whoever's in her wills are going to be fine at that they would rather not lose their titles though.

"Les how we act got way though. But that's like a tic tac song Yeah okay yeah so. I didn't recognize the keyboard. You know what you're such a hater. Don't let me get him on here out. Thank you okay. So i totally understand this. This pandemic has everybody in a tizzy. Tizzy tizzy so I can see why she's not busy. Busy busy Planning this wedding and one is not having it and also say he. Incoming going to that party and needed robin. Robin was kind of like the the lease under the radar story. I think and so. I feel like you know she. They're starting her under the radar and she's probably going to have a bigger arc Midseason it'll have something to do with one complaining about her and and not having the wedding. I agree with your assessment. I one of the thing say that again. I slightly agree home with your assessment One of the things that. I think that i like so much about robin is i feel like robin is the and we say like the real housewives of the tony chief for me. Exudes the most authentic and the most real. I feel like she's always very neutral. I feel like harvest artists. Things are always like she reminds me of my friend. Darah like she just is. There's something about her. That's relatable you can get with by. She's not to like jazz. Your fancy like you know. She's like me right. I saw i on. Okay keeping go. I really like relate to rob in this This season because like you know. She's just saying like she just doesn't have the energy like you know with the pandemic the boys being home. It's hard for her to find the energy to get out of bed and that really resonated with me. 'cause you know like i always talk about you know my seasonal affective disorder that i feel like i go through and i feel like it has carried into like my spring and summertime. They like. I am withdrawn from the activities. That i normally really like to do. I have to kind of like hide myself up to do things. And so it was really just like refreshing to see robin being instead of like faking the fall and like you don't when the cameras on just being like you know you're perfect. I really resonated with her being like this pandemic has really affected me. So i can relate to that. I do feel a weighs about one in the sense that like you know. He's complaining about robin. But when the rewind three and a half years ago where you didn't have a job and robbery was the the main breadwinner i do know. Where was that energy was it. Yeah so. I feel like i get it. You want to motivate her. But i also feel like there's no problem with you taking the status of head of household. I think we're we get into a troublesome border is that it's not only as he sang pablo but all of these two episodes. Yes that it more than once that. It's eternal he finds the track. First of all light homeboy. You don't she's not here to turn you on twenty four seven she does. She's a whole person. I hate women like put these little standards like it's i mean. She needs to live her life. She she don't live to please you so that that off. A bit yeah. I'm sorry. wait wait. Hold on no. No what did you say you were. Murmuring will want extinct boy. In court documents, police say they found an unregistered nine millimeter Glock and over 500 rounds of ammunition and dealers truck as well, A shotgun shells and a 17 round ammunition magazine He's been charged with carrying a pistol that is not registered in D C W T. OBY, National security correspondent J. J. Green reports. Inaugural credentials are being scrutinized after this arrest. Now ahead of the inauguration, Washington has become a de facto fortress. PBS NEWS Our White House correspondent Michele Sindoor, guest moderator of Washington week joined W. T. O. P S. Sean and Brandon with more It's surreal and also feels like a nightmare. Driving through Washington D. C. Of someone who's been here for a long time. The city's almost unrecognizable become a fortress. Security officials are on high alert. Lawmakers are in some ways, saying that they're scared of each other was just watching an interview with the senior member of the Armed Services Committee, saying that he's worried that some lawmakers might take guns. Into the House Lord to shoot other members. I mean, that is incredible and scary, And it shows that the moment that we're living in was one of those such heightened fear and and then trust among Americans, and even um, of course, among our own lawmakers in Congress just completely broken down. All this, of course, is happening as it impeachment trial boom and an inauguration. There's so many security Warnings from the FBI and law officials. And of course, we're seeing thousands and thousands of National Guard troops come to the city, so it's just an incredible time of upheaval in a fear. We've talked about and you mentioned you know what a hellish day it was January 6th at the capital, new videos and stories. They're coming in daily. We're learning how close the writers got to Vice President Pence. How do leaders our leaders respond to all of this? It's a good question. I think it's one that we're going to have to really watch and see what happened This week. We saw the most bipartisan impeachment ever, and even with that it was still 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach President Trump. Many House Republicans stood up and said, either. Yes, the president has some sort of culpability here, but he shouldn't be impeached. That was the stand of House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy. Then you had the third ranking House GOP member list, Cheney saying Actually, she's voting to impeach because President Trump betrayed his oath of office and betrayed the constitution. So in some ways, you're seeing a little bit of bipartisanship. But honestly, you're also seeing a lot of Camps of partisanship with BC Responding to All of this that we witnessed and experienced in a way that it that it responded women they were arguing over the cove is Bill for months and months, with Democrats in one corner and Republicans in another. I think we may get to a point where lawmakers want to talk more about white supremacy and the danger of domestic terrorists, but they're also Republicans who want to stick with the president and want to make sure That this conversation and then this aftermath doesn't hurt Republicans. Chances of trying to take back the Senate when the presidency and all the other political calculations that they often make Michelle Sindoor guest moderator.
