"I was a big fan. Especially of an as paloma hotan in the film gave it some of his moments for me agreed. I think it was a fantastic actor. I think the the action scenes that she contributes to some of the best in the i agree Everything involving her and bond was like the highlight of the movie for me. Like i really thought that stuff was really strong and eat really to me. Shows i don't know how conscious they are of the failings of specter. There's that being bond special where they talk about recognizing the issues. They had with quantum. But they don't really comment on specter at all but to me. I just look back at when they cast monica baluchi in that film and There was a lot of excitement because monica baluchi was an actress. Who i think a lot of people felt would be really appropriate for the bond world in when she was cast. People were like halley. Ilya it's happening and then blah like what do you get out of that performance right like there's nothing there and you know on dharma's you know. She's not credited near the top of the list but it she's a supporting character and i think there's always that concern that they're just gonna kinda pop them in there like there's recognizable actor. Like they did with monica bellucci and they've done many many many times in the history of bond where they take supporting characters and they become iconic purely because they're in a bond movie but what really did they do and you're movie will always be better if you're characters all pop. If they don't your movie may not be bad but it will be brought down a little bit at least and that's one thing. I thought the supporting cast in this movie. Great attention was paid to making sure every character really worked and the audience would walkout remembering exactly who they were kind of jumping off. What you said like supporting cast not just a bond allies but like henchman.

"I think that you've used your external environments as a forcing function to get to the truth and it sounds to me that you know in surfing. Call it waves of consequence. You're calling it you know committing environments same thing is that you're not right figure out quickly you know and sometimes consequential and sometimes it's just really scary and it's not lost may just your first race was about you and shit talk into yourself. Hotan beating yourself up from a critical you know. Fear based approach into the last is like you were using your environment to give life to an energy to your husband like nobody really. Does this stuff alone. We do the thing alone even like when we're on a team like we're we're executing oftentimes completely by herself even notes. We have a mate. That's right beside us and you don't. You don't have a teammate out there but so can you talk about that relationship between Solitude aloneness loneliness and connection. yeah Do a lot of stuff alone. And if i don't have a regular dose of alone i'm an introvert and if i don't have quite a bit time alone i i start to get. I'm not that nice to be around and so alone doesn't mean loneliness to me. That's sad i i you know i have a husband dogs and i you know. Cherish my community. When when i'm on the trail like the idea trail alone at this point i feel it is for me but i also feel kind of a responsibility to take that story and not experienced and share it with people who will never be on the editor at Were circling back a little bit to the trajectory of my career of giving back. And this what i can give is. You started calling this concept that is coming to me of like you know i find i find myself on the trail. I solve my answers on the trail. I purpose on the trail. And i've started calling it dirt dharma because it's like. This is where i need to be. It's how i understand. My life is with dirt dharma and even as the snow in alaska I'm not alone out there. Because i feel responsibility to survive through myself but to bring these gifts home for for other people whether it's bringing it to my husband or bring it to my riding community or or people maybe who aren't athletes But still can resonate with a beautiful place. And you like wow. What's alaska look like in the winter. So i don't feel alone out there. This year was a very distinct example. Of the fact that i'm not alone and i felt so energized. Not tired in yeah. I'm definitely not alone. I actually feel a responsibility. Now and a purpose that you know i'm i'm the piper i'm the messenger for for some of these lessons and that come from the trail and i need to deliver them back home to whoever wants to list. I mean you ever wants to take them so you reference dharma which is both a buddhist hindu and so are you coming from more of a buddhist perspective to use that word. i do think somebody's performance and some. Yeah i i am coming out from an eastern philosophy really. That started to happen in twenty fifteen most important right in my life. I went road. The hotel trail through vietnam laos and cambodia and that is where my career as an athlete as the expedition athlete combined with my family and my dad was shot down over there. He was in the vietnam war he was. He was the Fighter pilot F four phantom and. He didn't come home and i was three years old and and many many almost fifty years later. You know i had this idea of like a wonderf- anybody's ridden the honeymoon trail. I wonder if i could go there. I had this map coordinate. And i've always loved maps of always loved a paper map and compass and i was drawn to that that location in the middle of laos To a tree where where. My dad died that expedition. really Brought into focus my purpose and my reason for being an endurance athlete. And my y you know people ask why you've been doing this and it became. I sort of woke up there. You know standing at the tree and understanding it. I could use my bike for a lot more but really michael. It's like the six years since that happened. Only just now understanding what that ride men and understanding that felt my dad's presence there and there was energy and connecting with another community that were quote unquote enemies Yeah that ride really really changed me. And i think that's where we stood in some of the temples there and along the ride in the road with the vietnamese teammate. We're on the trail for a month. You know fully immersed spin that culture in that place and you can't help but be moved when you go in and sit with monks and you know you see a barrier. Remember one specific temple where we already gone to the tree and the place in walked in. And you know it's all brown dirt out techni walk in and it's just the most vibrant colors ever seen in your life and there's The buddha sitting under the body tree you know where he found enlightenment. And i'm not claiming on enlighten way. But this sort of tree image and you know..

"I'm bob neat. And taraji and today's drivers are jewels and christine professional travelers content creators and podcasters. They've been on the road for over ten years exploring all the world has to offer and met while traveling impro- back in two thousand twelve working at a disaster relief nonprofit. They have been traveling together. Twenty four seven ever since along the way they started a travel blog called. Don't forget to move which over the years has become their fulltime job and now focuses on adventure travel and responsible tourism helping their audience. Experience the world in a more sustainable way. They also hosts a podcast nonstop bon voyage which is a comedic travel. Podcast where they talk about all things that can go wrong while on the road and today this shared with us some of those few things that went wrong while they were on the road such as having survived with farm animals in columbia and their adventures in their converted ban. Welcome deals and christine. Thanks so much for joining us today. Thank you so much for happiness having us so. I know you guys are big travelers. And i'm super excited to hear all your stories because i'm sure you have a really crazy ones from all the places you've been. Let's start with which one you think. Is the craziest driving story of them all. Oh we have definitely had a little crazy driving stories a lot of the time. It's not driving as self And the one that definitely comes to mind at the start would be al time. In northern colombia. Traveling at will play kabale. Bella which is pretty much a middle of norway pursuing. It's almost the northernmost point of south america and it's not a allowed to travelers go. They say it's kind of like the wild west of columbia so it's pretty far off the beaten track and even just to get it takes a bit of emission. He goes had couple of buses in a couple of different small mini vans. And then you finally get to a little place called arabia where you take you jump into a full and this is not your standard full by full. This is a four by four that has been so personally modified to have sate. Elise a dozen people in the back. Try like a pickup truck and the journey. There is four hours of bumping around in sloshing around in the mud depending on the season being crammed with about a dozen people into a full person seda and picking up a lot of livestock along the way like chickens and guards in all kinds of crazy things. So you are basically crammed in the back of this four by four with at least a dozen other people of course all locals. We were the only other travelers who went that far. I guess and then random animals start coming in so we had piglets on the floor. We had baby goats on the floor at a chicken on my lap at one stage. I think i had a baby on my lab. I wonder if we had a little baby. Sir whose baby was but there was a lot of south coming in and on our way back out was the same thing tons of livestock tons of animals just like feathers everywhere and we were leaving very early in the morning. It was maybe four. Am before it was even light out. And we were stopping at all of these farms in little houses along the way and we had some unexpected visitors strapped to the roof. We had three shoes. Desert tortoises will probably about six foot wide Honestly the biggest ever seen in my life and about five or six men were putting it on top of the roof. I don't know where it was going. The poll seeing but Yeah it was quite a wild ride. Yeah it was literally wild. Ride just filled with animals animal. The funny experience is that common for them to like four turtles or tortoise on the roof that he's definitely how i told us on the roof experienced but it is quite common for them to travel with livestock especially when you're traveling in rural areas in indigenous communities. Quite common for them to you. Know they got the coming from the local markets so they've got a chicken and it's tied up. They've got a guard or luke pig. Hug todd their fate name jumping the boss jump jumping the car and go back home. And that's fairly common. We they call it. Chicken buses in central america raisin. There's a lotta chickens on him. Where the animals with you for most of your trip or like how long were you with. The animals offset hotan. So this place. Here is is pretty oscillated. So this is a few rule. Sort of villages Affiliates little so to commune areas along the way but most of the people going from sort of point either point bay and they traveling with all that livestock eight a two they were bringing it back so yeah pretty much the whole four hours. We will sloshing around in the back of these full by four pickup truck with a whole bunch of animals and people just like one guy with a chicken. Walk it off but then one guy with tj can gets on so it's always balancing let made you choose to go there out of all the places since it's not a very typical worse destination executives and at that point we had spent probably Maybe a year in latin america. And we were just ready to get like pushed the boundaries. And get even far off the beaten track and just really wanted to go where we're not going to be surrounded by backpackers cause of knives and colombia and peru in those countries you kind of end up on the tourist trail and you just get stuck with me. No and it's great. You make a lot of friends that way. But you're kind of sick of just being surrounded by backpackers all the time. So we wanted to go somewhere where it's just all locals. We could really get to know the culture and just push boundaries basically and that seemed like the best option and it was an interesting experience. We're definitely the only travelers we saw their ended up sleeping in hammocks outside of this cabin thing in the wind and the rain and we just wayne in this hammocks is pretty intense but it was beautiful just super rugged pristine landscape out there right on the coast but still very desert and dry and yeah is really gorgeous and we'd heard that the junior was half the adventure and definitely was probably one of fiber journey stories that we tell because destination was out there. But you know we've been traveling for eight years ten years

"Would it be. I would definitely say growing up as a black man and an inner city beach right. You definitely see and hear more about the trauma more than The comeback story or more than the resiliency. That should be showcased I mean going to public schools. You see your friends. They don't necessarily have The same Well known publicly general. We don't have the same education process that other districts that ask so that's that develops on us to where we think properly. We can't cope properly because we're not educated to deal with our emotions And then most of the time. I'm just grown up in the you know it does tend. Have you know that. Stigma of broken homes things of that nature. So when i was growing up me personally I saw things that i thought. Were normal then. I grew up turn eighteen nineteen and i've got friends of different cultures. See like okay. That wasn't normal. I shouldn't have known that a drug houses a black over from where my grandmother state I shouldn't have known or my friends shouldn't have been carrying guns and things like that at age. Thirteen fourteen years old so It's like growing up as a black man in inner city is like the trauma is conditioned to you. More selden is more so that it's a normal as as a black man so That's just what i think about it. You talk you bring up a great point of how we can normalize this function or we can normalize trauma so that we don't see it as trauma and then when we get exposed to something different it begins to make us aware of how that was not normal so like domestic violence every every black man than i know either has witnessed it personally. has a has aunt or a mother or some women in his life. He knows that had succumbed to or been victim of nasa. Come to have been a victim of domestic violence They themselves have experienced some type of physical mental sexual. Abuse of the statistics are blaring about. I think When i was in college my sociology class. I think it was one in five. Now i'm not gonna date myself but that was some time ago so i know the statistics in the work that i would deal with when i was a social worker for the state a private agency has start working within school systems. I wanna ask the brothers on the call once you have either seen trauma or personally experienced it like is it easy for you to detect that same level of trauma in other people that you meet without a spoken word. Can you see. So i believe soldiers because The process that. I'm going through knowledge understanding the people that dental mental health dental issues. Like that can be smiling. They could seem like the happiest people in the world hotan. He never know that they're actually gone. Recently just made a pulse encouraging everyone to just call call. How did Apple get that iPhone 11 price down?

"The price of a new iphone is roughly a thousand dollars. The iphone tennis maxes eleven hundred dollars lers. You're you're looking to pay upwards of thirteen fourteen hundred dollars. If you really want up like phone prices just gotten out of hand. What what are some of your research say. While of course the the phone prices are what the market will bear and apple sells millions and millions and millions of handsets each year so the market is bearing the increased price on those handsets specifically on on the larger handsets the battery handsets larger screen handsets like the Max but the market sparing it now the the price increases are certainly making the handset replacement cycle longer and we've seen that a lot of people are holding their phones much longer these days over eighteen months which is which is longer than previously yeah and that's a that's a great point particularly this year because I feel like even if you're a hardcore apple fan you know this may be a year where you look kind of hold off because if you just sort of look ahead to twenty twenty hey you've got five G. around the corner at least rumors of five coming into my phone you know what is the what's going on in the mind of the apple fan or really just any kind of smartphone consumer looking to weigh the decision between bio now versus waiting a year to get get potentially five G. Access now now. It's a great question so it's it's all about five G. M. Consumers are really concerned about that. Thousand Dollars Eleven hundred dollar mistake they're concerned about buying a price device unable to take advantage of the latest technologies like five g. now that carrier problem as well. That's carry problem as well because but it's something they're aware of and marketing to think again of the apple upgrade land where you exchange your phone and pay but of a premium in the forty to fifty five dollars a month of area you're in order to upgrade that handset yearly and it eliminates that concern now for the iphone eleven specifically like you just mentioned we've got five. G. On the horizon is him and we've got a device that by all accounts again these are just rumors. We haven't held the handset in her hands. Yet won't be five G. Capable and now now. That's obviously going to put some money back in people's pockets when they were ready to buy. I don't know if you if you recall and obviously dating myself by talking about it but back back in the day when the first android three auto tablet was out android honeycomb if you remember back that far so the H. in honeycomb go for android three data that was a three g tablet the Motorola Zoom it shipped with three g modem hardware and when it went to market market went to market with the promise that if you send it back to us in the next few months and I believe it was four months that Motorola would replace the modem hardware with four G. Hardware now as a selling point these tablets. This is quite some time ago. This is seven years ago. The tablet price point was eight hundred dollars and that was expensive awesome so they didn't sell a whole ton and they didn't sell Hotan for those two reasons a high price point which again we're seeing today sort of reminiscent today as well as somewhat data technology aging not able to take care of the take advantage of excuse me that newest network capability

"To a million or more weaker these Moslems who live in the westernmost part of China Xinjiang. They call it out or China outside China new frontier new frontier, which is in fact, the come Chevy's Turkistan momentarily. It was free following the second war. The we are native to this country their Turkic people they're related to the Ottoman empire. They are part of the last several thousand years of migrations from central Asia into Europe. These people are being persecuted in what appears to be a cultural genocide by the communist authorities who are threatened, by faithfulness to Islam. And also by anything that doesn't obey and comply. With the homogenization of human spirit by the communist party. Beijing says they're Chinese, but has ruthlessly been eliminating their culture their religion their way of life. And that just shows that they are not in fact Chinese and that they have conquered people. We welcome our weaker Turco who lives in Washington DC, an attorney former head former president of the weaker American Association to comment on a recent story that is heartbreaking, but at the same time encouraging the discovery that the slave labor because the we are in detention camps where they're not permitted to leave. But they're forced to work that slave labor has led to the manufacturing of sports equipment. And in one, particular instance, company in North Carolina became aware that these products were being produced by slaves. And then what happened Nouri a very good evening to you badgers. Sportswear? What did it do what it learned are when it became evident? That is sports. Where was being manufactured by slaves under the boot of the communist party, good evening to good evening? John and Gordon to badger sports credit ethnic story broke out by Associated Press last month. They immediately at least show that goodwill in public. Stop selling the product. And now completely cut off the contacts with the business relationship with this privately owned company co pay which is located inside the interment camps. In Hotan, which is in Chinese so the Chinese government came out, and and at call it a tragic discontinuation of a business relationship, but at the same time, they ironically said that the labor temps has been discontinued the current political environment for the week have multiple aspects of facet been carried out in multifaceted approach one of the political economy. The other one is cultural extra money and also started aggressive diplomatic effort. The the Chinese government apparently with a very clear objective turning this modern day concentration camps situation into a money-making machine. One supporting the government funded or government, subsidized entities to set up a manufacturing site than using illegal labor or slave labor to make money at the same time. They are helping the state owned or state -ffiliated security companies to help to build these camps and diplomatically, they've been very aggressive and the international around the world. Recently and some some of their supporters were countries from China traditional allies war reliant countries to CD's cabs for propaganda purposes. And also, culturally speaking, China's garland has a very clear objective, which is to exterminate that we cultural heritage as Washington Post pointed out Chinese government, not a terribly inside engaging in ethnic cleansing by relentlessly. Lamenting plans to make all religion compatible with socialism and also calling. Religious background mental mental illness. Liking weaker tradit- appreciation of traditional values as a as a cancerous tumor that needs to be erotic gated were cleaned out with a chemicals. So the Chinese motives are very very clear, political cultural, and and of course, global it has a lot to the China. Global ambition to take over the United States in the world stage, the more we learn about these camps, the more we realize that they're very little different from those in the nineteen forties. The only thing is that there's not mass extermination, but we are dying in these camps and the world can't forget that. Ironically. The national community except for the United States and few other countries have not been really spoken out. Two thousand nine hundred has been somewhat quiet. We've seen some momentum towards end up two thousand eighteen e u considering the back Nikki act the EU version up the Magnitsky act. Australian version of mega mega Nouri. We're going to have to leave it there. But the Magnitsky act certainly is pertinent, and so are members of congress, and we'll speak to this again.
