"Angeles Children's Hospital Los Angeles Because your child's health is essential, SC certainly had the better of things, statistically in the third quarter, moved the ball all over the field. Has only had the one big play for the touchdown after three. The Trojans have more yards a couple more plays 349 3 26 the total offense Everything is kind of right down the middle even and so is the scoreboard. Game stats delivered by Farmer John providing the flavor of family since 1931. So one quarter and who knows, But we might have more than that before this whole thing is over. Yeah. So far. The story in the second half is obviously the running game has got going for Children's Pete, but the ability not to score any points, getting the opponents in the in the five yard line two times and get zeros out of it. That's good. That's a real stinger. There. For USC, gonna find a way to have to battle back from that, But that's a big that's a big moment of swing. That's a turnover for Arizona and getting them but the ball back. No point inside the fire. I don't know I've ever seen two trips like that come up empty with nothing and you're giving Arizona hope even though they do have the ball way back in their own end of the 10 yard line, fourth quarter sponsored by athletic brewing Out partner of USC order. Great tasting craft, nonalcoholic beer online and athletic brewing, calm and get free shipping on 26 packs or more Grand canal back to work starts off the quarter with a penalty marker, and it will probably drive him back. They usually let him run the play. If it's against the defense, they don't this time so The playoff game coming out of the huddle to start the fourth quarter. Ouch! Yeah, interesting. They're both teams trying to find a way to beat the refereeing. Today, it Zbynek lot of penalties. The big, heavily penalized game so far with the church's was tame that calls of you know, not too many backlogs. Trojans with 10 and Arizona was looks like he made the signal for delay again. They say false start. He changed it, all right. Regardless back to the five yard line. 2nd and 11 handoff, fella go nowhere right back to the line of scrimmage of the five third and 11 so really big play coming up here. Good job. Interior defense by us sees Tulley to Apolo to Marlon brother there with a nice play on the on the run. They're shutting down the run. Notre Dame leading Boston College, 38 23, early fourth Colorado 35, Stanford, 16. San Diego State 28, Hawaii three there in the second half here to 2020 tie and see in Arizona. 14 27 to go in regulation time and a 3rd 10,.

What parents should know about COVID-19 in kids

"So a lot of parents might think well first of all they're used to their children having fevers and they know how to treat it with Tylenol at cetera but they also might be afraid of actually going to the hospital where there might be kids sick with co better other people sick with co but that might be an infection point what can you say to them to give them a little more peace of mind if they do consider bringing their kid into the hospital well what I would say is that we screen every person carefully before they enter the hospital every impatient every child who's coming in for any type of procedure is screened for virus and we have a universal masking protocol so I wanna make sure that parents know it's safe to come to children's hospital Los Angeles and a what point should they say you know what this is serious enough for me to take my kid in I would ask them to work closely with their primary care givers and if they feel their child is very ill appearing and has had a high fever that's lasting for four or five days or more and they see some of these other symptoms were describing please don't delay and please bring your child and

"This week. We talk about a young girl called grace who contracted an extremely rare form of leukemia. A Mother Melissa bombs did was put into place. Many of us never even think about putting everything on the line in the battle to save. I loved ones on that journey. Melissa began discovering that the potential causes of Greece's Kanter may not be very far from so Melissa's. Maybe start by telling us how you decided to move to this community and where we are well right now now. We're just outside of Seamy Valley. I grew up in thousand oaks which is only about five more miles from where we are right. Now I went to Los Angeles for college and when my husband in an I ready to start a family we were looking for a community that was close enough to Los Angeles for work but it was safe. I checked out all the Megan laws to make sure that that was safe. I checked out all the schools check out all crime. I mean I really did quite a bit of research because we wanted to provide the best that we could for our children so you're so you're looking around for homes. Where did you end up locating well. it was a rather miraculous purchase but our first home was on Fallbrook Avenue Avenue in West Hills thirty miles out from Hollywood or we're very close which is why West Hills was so ideal. It's it's the community for people who can't commute too much wjr but also want to be close to work. It's a fairly affluent area calabasas right down the hills where all the celebrities live and it's a nice well to do comfortable city okay so you'll living this new life and and what happens next well when my daughter was four years old she started bruising using and she is a very active kid she's always been a Alpha female since day one name a Grace Grace Allen and so when she started bruising and I took her to the doctor. They said she's just really active little girl. There's no problem here in. I pointed out like she was. She has little bruises on her forehead red and they said well. I'm sure it's fine and they sent us home. A couple of weeks later call back and I said it doesn't feel right. I got brushed off again. Finally leash she had a giant purple scar down her whole side and I called back the doctor and said this. This can't be normal most doctors. I will never have a cancer patient and so I like to think that's why he didn't move quickly three days later. We were finally informed. That grace had every symptom of leukemia. We ended up at Children's Hospital. Los Angeles where on January twentieth we learned that she had an exceptionally rare form incredibly aggressive aggressive form of leukemia call the positive The Philadelphia Chromosome Ehlo and just as a mom and a family. I mean that's just just going to be a terrifying. I mean Con- imagine getting that news. Your whole life stops and everything crashes. We were impatient immediately for week but when I got home I would not mean to but I would just stop in the middle of an intersection forget that I was driving. I was forget where I was going. It's it's it's more than life changing really. It's hard to describe because a lot of these feelings. I have not allowed myself to process a lot of these memories. I've really worked hard hard to keep them away. Just now coming to a place where I'm starting to feel and remember and it's a hard place to go back to to be honest. It wasn't the first time she was diagnosed. That was the worst for me. The worst day of my life was when she relapsed a year and a half out of treatment that that to me was is a thousand times worse than the first one because we immediately knew that her survival rate on a on a clinical trial the first time was seventy percent survival rate which to everyone else sounds really great until the cancer parents. That's one three out of ten children and they don't tell you up front who those three are going to be so. It's not amazing in but you know it's it's there's hope when she relapsed they would not tell us her survival rate and I think it's because they knew we would lose all hope. We knew immediately that she she would need to have a bone marrow transplant. We knew what type of chemotherapy she would have. We knew she would have radiation. I mean we knew we knew what we how bad it was going to be and I think that's why the second time was so much worse than the first time the first time we were pretty naive and how did grace. How did she react react to two oldest like as a kid. You're going through this really you know and especially adults we know more like how is she coping well. It's it's interesting because I think most people assume that childhood cancer. Is You know some throwing up some discomfort in the worst parts you lose. Your hair turns out losing your child losing their hair. The easiest part of the entire journey everything else is a thousand times worse and fortunately when grace was four years old she still really really looked to my husband and I for approval and so she and because she was at the Children's hospital all the time in all the children in her ward are all bald. That was a comfortable place for her by the time she was in second. Grade is she. She knew that other kids had hair she. She knew you that she was different. She knew right after I mean the minute after we told her that she had relapsed she said am I going to die. She knew everything to and and that's tough on a kid and it was tough on my son who was only two and a half when she was diagnosed and if grace had a fever in the middle of the night we had one hour to get her life saving antibiotics so it was an emergency situation to get straight down to the children's hospital and I couldn't wake him up at three in the morning and say goodbye I but sometimes they'd be gone for three to four weeks inpatient and so he he developed a lot of a lot of his own issues and problems and heartache heartache I mean our whole family was affected. My daughter had the worst of it obviously but I don't think people quite realize the trauma brings to the entire family so because graces his cancer was so aggressive did did she need different or more kinds of treatment. She ended up having ten times. The regular dose of chemotherapy than a standard leukemia child would have and so we we spent longtime impatient because it was so devastating on her body auty. She had all kinds of issues she she couldn't eat anymore. She had sores all throughout her mouth. In fact they said it was one of the worst cases of Mucus. Itis they've ever seen it was all the way every part of your mucous. Lining in her body was covered in canker like source so she was addicted to morphine at that time the chemotherapy be gave her neuropathy where if she touched the ground she would be screaming in pain pancreatitis and blood staph infection all at the same time. When did you start noticing patents that you saw the children's cancer ward we live at the hospital more than a typical leukemia me a patient might so we met a lot of the the other families staying there and grace and I were walking down the hall one day and a mom opens the door and said I know no you from the park. I recognize your daughter. We said you know childhood cancers really rare. That's impossible. I'm sorry I don't believe you and when I went home that weekend. I found out that she was right. She was in the background of the pictures from that day and her daughter now had neuroblastoma which is in cancer more rare than my daughters and eleven months after that day she passed away at two years old and then we met the hammers lease and again in treatment and just casual conversation precision. Oh so where are you guys from and she said Seamew Valley and Simi Valley is not far from my home so that was alarming to me but I I kinda voted off. You know it's fairly populated area her daughter. Hazel also had neuroblastoma and excessively. I believe there's only six hundred cases in America. Every year of NEUROBLASTOMA and Hazel was in treatment. Hazel passed away last March after a six or seven year

"And she had that look look like what the Hell is going on here the look right and <hes> they said you know she she does they confirm that she did have leukemia and they said we need to start treatment right away. These are your options and so forth so we weighed our options we prayed on it and so forth and we decided to due to just go on with the Chemo and they said but <hes> it just really wouldn't be ethical for her to be strapped down like that because when when they tried untethered untethered her she would do what want to your old with do wouldn't pull it out for face. Oh my goodness yes she would pull all the tubes out and so forth so they thought the best thing to do was to put her in a drug induced coma which is where she was for about two months yeah so she had her chemotherapy whilst in in a drug induced coma FABU Lon I want to be able to cover as as much as we can sure and the time that we happen want to be able to get to Anthony's battles with with his health <hes> in the in the book it's interspersed between winning these battles with Brittany's health <hes> your career at that point is is taking off the tonight show back then when it was still hosted bye bye Johnny Carson was if you could combine youtube instagram twitter all of those things those were all packed into the power that the the tonight show had your your life could change overnight <hes> and you started doing the tonight show and they loved you and they started having you back on and offstage. Her of I started at home. We will have to learn how to do the all the key meal and <hes> <hes> C._p._R.. C._P._R.. Yeah I'll stop and then when it gets a little bit more difficult. She was in the hospital and so she was a frequent flyer. Children's Hospital Los Angeles so so you had moved here from Chicago by that point yeah 'cause she she she had win into remission while in Chicago so we'd say okay now we go ahead and move to L._A.. So talk about the last last time that that you guys were with her. Yes the last if you're comfortable. I don't lie. "A room blinds. Dot Com has just what you're looking for. Check them out. Let them know we sent you from the Ataman Dr Juche. That's blinds DOT COM Joe Forty New York City. Maybe I am a little bit. WHO's aim actually calling from hospital easy? Yeah the Seattle that I've been here for is Kinda far from other familiar stuff and go on hold listening going into like Oh. There's something familiar okay. That was nice made me feel like again thank you. You're welcome. Mary guys doing good new. Your phone's a little choppy. You're in the house. I let's get right to it. You know I'll see if I can get it up a little bit because I I can hear you guys okay so it's probably just <unk> at probably just my voice 'cause I've been I've been taking shower breasts the last couple days. They've been giving me those things that after you have surgery where droopy seeing these like where you suck tuck errands restaurant balls goes it's called it's called in its incentives barometer now. What are you gonNa Surgery? <hes> that minor liver saying so I'm going to be okay. It's just minor liver them. What exactly yeah up <hes> Adam you remember like a year and and a half ago it was the guy that called in about <hes> donating a piece in my liver to the kid at Children's Hospital Los Angeles Yeah you remember that Okay and then <hes> so I was was actually on the standby volunteer lists ever since then and then <hes> l._a.? Cutting me on their on their list of eligible volunteers for about a year but they never had a they never for how to transplant candidate who was compatible so I started calling around other places and saying you know L._A.'s already done all these free screenings on me getting you reuse some of the same as at least when he's things like the M._r._i.. which are a big deal to go and get procedures each different place than the alphabet here in New York? Apparently I call them just a device. You're call them a couple of minutes after they just found out that one of their one of their patients was gonNA need a transplant so I was here last week for the test and then he and back in a couple of days ago and <hes> and it actually happened Nice that is amazing this person you've ever personally never met before. The hospital keeps it anonymous before the transplant and then I know you're not doing it for not doing it for a loved one and this is the second time you've done it. No so <hes> the first time I was actually <hes> I was in L._A.. Almost out to be the donor van Adam. I don't know if you remember this. There was a deceased donor accident. The second who arrived at the hospital and they were too they were able to use his track on Joe. Good your hero. What can we do for you well? I was wondering I've just been observing some stuff in the hospital for a couple of days that I thought either either I mean there's some of it adds up where I don't understand why this is not like a critical safety hazard and I wonder if you might know something just sort of a an mitigating regaining thing like okay so the first night after I was ice even regular room they had some <hes> an I._V.. Drip Hook up today and for whatever reason one of the power sockets in the wall didn't didn't work. That's bad enough real problems but they had to plug in and then when the when the device has thirty minutes of battery left because it's not getting that it's not gonNA charge the wall. There was alarm that starts going and I noticed that it usually took a long time for people who respond to alarm. I mean it's it's it's loud and it's meant to be heard by the people roll out in the in the common area. I mean it's not like a patient meant to be heard question is why don't they come right in when they hear that alarm well well part of that and then 'cause I after this happened a few times eventually like well. I'm healthy enough. I can probably just let this run and see how long it would take them actually come in here so next time it leno off I just I just fell into my phone going off for about ten minutes. Nobody came in and finally I push the call button which is actually responded to call me so at that point somebody came in and take care of it which means that I mean I assume that if they can go off for ten minutes ago responding that at least once in a while and go off for thirty minutes overdue responding goes offer thirty minutes corresponding the machine dyes and I mentioned this to some people afterwards and I said I don't understand why this is not considered a critical threat to human safety that you have machines when the batteries running out people aren't running people are responding to alarms things battery's dying right. Am I missing something. We'll be there lots of alarms going off all the time. They have to prioritize which one they're attending to right so that's one aspect another aspect. Is They have checks. They're going to check on you fifteen thirty one hour whatever their different type timing on the checks and so those are set up in such a way that would catch this kind of thing and if it really were an issue believe me there's armies of attorneys waiting to hop all over that right and so it would it would be it'd be a major liability. The hospitals would have taken care of if it were a liability okay I think when they're on their regular around that <hes> it's once an hour during the day and then once every two hours at night how often we were getting checked on that. That's still seems like a pretty big window or the machine could stop functioning and again but the hate to say it but that that's sort of a least important little function there. I'm we also. I don't know if there's a just a drip override. That doesn't mean we need the machine. Sometimes I get your point is well taken that people should be on top of things like that but but if they were missing it there would be liability clearly not missing it. I don't know a lot about this. I do know that all these hospitals have all these backup battery generators and batteries. Oh you know what he's saying. I'm just saying my all I knows if you build a hospital after lottery done until you have to be ready for a power outage Kenley find that Partridge family getting one second now waiting for this truecar words getting that I do truecar all right through car you know oh about truecar you knew all about the true cash offer you know all about truecar certified dealers so put that all together go to truecar from your smartphone your computer and your license plate.

"In the entire room is trying to resuscitate him in they can't and the paramedics are on their way is still there this person you don't know it was like the apex of powerlessness Yeah Yeah Yeah and and my husband's fucking capable and he is paramedic now but he literally certified you know he we couldn't get him to come to. Oh so there's this little man that I don't even know and the paramedics come in quarter is still <unk> on so he has oxygen through my blood and then they cut the cord and Scott ran out half naked. I was naked after my seven hours of laboring. Scott ran out Ozzie and got an ambulance got an an ambulance. The midwife says to me shaking you need to break the placenta and I was like usually the way it was Nova. You have your baby on your chest and your body instinct truly knows what also there's all this like oxytocin in the surging area. It's the milk comes. That's how your body's built an amazing beautiful machine system I couldn't it was leaving out yeah and so they had to give me a tocine and then it came out in my bathroom Rosen and give people do induce labor so they had to induce an homage whites have that traditionally do that to give you a hit of medicine right at the end to the Placenta at home okay so that you don't bleed out basically Jason Okay so then you do that and then of course I was eleven pounds. I need to be sewn up. They take you to the bed and I was like looking at my phone and they were like sewing me up as I'm looking at my phone and I get a little video from Scott seeing ozzy just barely taking breaths with the oxygen mask going all and I just passed out because I was like he's and I just passed out and then and where I'm going with the is that this is the kind of Shit you deal with when you are married when you have children and that life and death is imminently a part of your existence in your daily commute in life and he was in the Nick You for eleven days he was hypoc. DOC said he was without oxygen for longer than the twenty minutes that is associated with being okay and children's Hospital Los Angeles saved his life. He was on a cold bed for seventy two hours. Why are they on a Goldberg because it slows any brain trauma basically they found children who had fallen in ice lakes or something like undergone <hes> Mama Yeah that the actually their results had had been better than say people who hadn't so and so yeah they had him on a coal bed so here's your little person you know and he's intimated and he has a new mustards of wires and tubes all over at this point? You must have fear that oh no he might not ever be cognizant all these things and I'm in a wheelchair because I'm bleeding. I can't even walk after birthing eleven pound baby at home and my mental state is not well. My husband and I both with Scott slept there every night. We were told that he could be cerebral palsy or never walker talk and that was our reality and I never shared the story but I share it because I think you know it's also so really important to know that when you step through life with someone and also I think it's as you store and I'm proud of him and I'm proud of walking out of the hospital you know with a clean bill of health and you know you don't know the brain is deeply complex and our neurologist was saying that you know you can look at an m._r._i.. Of A a medical student and a person with cerebral palsy and they can have a similar M._R._I.. I it's it's very confusing that things aren't clear cut unsentenced very mercurial and strange and mysterious and so we did walk out with a clean M._R._i.. After just the most agree just up and down of my entire life I mean I was medicated after her in order to walk. Yeah I remember driving to the hospital every day because you know it was like a head Nova to I had to be mom. She was what two she was two and a half by remember they were driving to the hospital and not knowing how to look down at people on the street because there would be all these like little flashes of life where you see a mother trying to get her son into the Goddamn carseat or whatever we get in there please I said now I'm not GonNa say it twice and you see it and and I'm like I don't know if I'll get to yell at my son's name me like she doesn't know how lucky she is not very in the weeds obsessed with everything of course and so I would just like crane my I line up and I would just look at the sky. I am the clouds and I'd be like Oh that's constant okay. It's just this Guy Yup still doing its thing up there helped like when you're in very traumatic situations I think you have to like lock onto something in nature or that is unmoving unchanging unwavering forever.
