"horford" Discussed on NBA Front Office w/ Keith Smith & Trevor Lane
"Hello everybody. Welcome back to the NBA front office show frontrunners. Thank you to everybody who joined us last night for warriors versus maps. Ended up being another blowout game, which still was a lot of fun over on playback. I'm gonna put the link to the playback channel in the description here. So you guys can come join us for the next one that we do, which will still deciding which one will be the next one that we do probably be a Mavs warriors game again, but we'll have to check the schedule on that one. But again, appreciate everybody who joined us last night for that. That was a lot of fun. Keith, we did get a little bit of news here, right before we came on, I'll Horford. We'll be back in action. Now, upgraded to questionable, and I said this to you before we started recording come playoff time if you're upgraded to questionable, that typically means you're playing. Yeah, my guess is, and this is let me be very, very clear this is just a guess. This was probably kept him out of game one was probably some kind of maybe a false positive test. I don't know, maybe there's something else going on testing he may have been a close contact and now they've done the retesting necessary to get him there. So yeah, he was, he was out for game one, then he was doubtful. Yesterday was what his injury designation was. And that could upgrade into questionable today. And that's a weird upgrade unless there's a good chance he's going to play. So I assume that's where it is. Email you don't go for what it's worth has said, continually. He feels fine, and he feels good. So I'm guessing Al Horford is back. Marcus smart probable to play. The word is he's going to test out his foot pre game, but is very likely to play. So we'll see what's going on with this brain drain for him. And then Derek white on the flip side he is out, but they're quite out for the, you know, arguably the very best reason you could ever miss. He's gone home to Boston to be with his wife for the birth of his first child. Is there anyone out there that is critical of that decision saying that is that happening? I would hope not, but I was assuming knowing the Twitter. Yeah. I mean, Trevor, I could say something like ice cream is good. And people would fire back with like, here's why you're wrong. Yeah, there's people out there who are being critical. Some of that is probably just people who get off on being ignorant trolls for what I've never understood. That behavior. But there are legit people who are like, it's the playoffs, like this kid's not going to remember this anyway, and it's like that's not what it's about. You would never, ever forgive yourself if you were missing a birth of a child. That's crazy. So yeah. I mean, whatever people are not jobs, but yes, congratulations to the white family. Email, you don't get did say the plan was she was going to be induced between games when the Celtics returned back to Boston, but as a couple of dads, we know babies have their own. They work on their own schedule..

"horford" Discussed on The Crossover NBA Show with Chris Mannix
"He's still been a shot blocker. He's still been valuable, but I would start Al Horford and grant Williams. Grant Williams didn't play well in game four, but I liked the grant Williams matchup against Yanis with Al Horford on brook Lopez taking Lopez maybe away from the basket. That's one thing that Putin holes is going to have to adjust to. Al Horford was open every single time he caught the ball. Like nobody within ten feet of them out there on the floor. Like I like the idea of forcing Lopez who's been a shot blocker all series, all since he's been back from that back injury, forcing him away from the rim and letting grant Williams deal with Giannis on the other end. Yeah, well, a couple things with that. One when you're talking about one side and that to me was after what game one or two, you could probably point to a lot of them everyone talking about, oh my God, Boston took X number of three points. That's what Milwaukee does. That's what their defense is predicated on. That's exactly what they want you to do. They want to bait you in they'll still try and speed you up in Russia and recover, but they are protecting the paint at all like that is exactly what their defense is designed to do. Because they believe in 7 games, you're not going to have that many games where you are on fire from three that it's going to be over able to overcompensate what they do on the inside and from the inside out, but you're looking at a situation now where that's what you saw with Horford. I think we've seen it with like go down the list of players, guys see one go through, especially on the road. See one go through to go through that's the swing and the balance of what happens when you have some of those smaller guys to pull out whether it's a brook Lopez portis, whoever. But on the flip side of things, I think from Milwaukee offensively, so much of it comes down to, in my estimation and we talked about this, like drew Holliday is the bellwether of this team. Like if he's able to find and to me it wasn't just the shots that he missed and he was excellent defensively. But what shots are you taking? And I would credit Boston's defense for forcing a lot of those, but there was a lot of long twos or there was a lot of isolation. If you're trying to bully your way to get to the basket or get to the paint or get in good ball movement and open shots, but to me, it was a lot of everyone's just spaced out. You're trying to get Yanis off the player, have him initiate the offense from a different spot, but you're looking at this set Boston defense that you're taking a couple of dribbles and taken along too and those if you're not hitting shots, like that sucks the life out of an offense. And I think there was too many possessions where you saw a lot of that. In talking about getting guys involved, whistling Matthews had some good the possessions I love so much about Milwaukee, whether it was Giannis and whether they put them on the wing and had him work that mid post area and that weak side three pointer is going to be open are going to be a good look..
"horford" Discussed on The Crossover NBA Show with Chris Mannix
"Back. It's a whole new level for you and me, Chris. This relationship. Like and subscribe for the best weekly NBA content these two are capable of. What does that mean? It could be the best duo ever. I don't see how you can beat that. Here they are. Chris mannix and Howard back. All right, no Howard Beck this week, which gives me the opportunity to bring in someone that has been just pleading to come back on the podcast. It's like everywhere I saw Sarah Koster. She's like, you don't have me on anymore. We don't talk anymore. We don't do this anymore. And I said, listen, Sarah, I do a pod with back where every single week. You know, we're kind of locked in there. But I promised if the opportunity came, I would bring Sarah coos dog back to the show. And here she is. Back on the podcast. Yes, network analyst Fox Sports won many other jobs, Sarah coos Doc joining me on the show hi Sarah. Manics, one, thanks for having me. Two, you're not lying. Three, it was because I wanted to be on with Beck. You wanted to be on the Friday pod. I forgot. You want to be the Friday version. Damn it. So I misread what you're saying, it's just I wanted to be talking to Howard peck right now and not having a conversation with you. Not the first time, Sarah. You read the signals. Detail. Not the first time this red sign is believed me. I have not been aware of that. I'm keenly aware. A bunch I want to get into with you. You're obviously tied in with Brooklyn. They've got their media day tomorrow or media availability with Sean marks and Steve Nash, you want to touch on them towards the end, but I am fresh off a trip to my favorite city on earth, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the Celtics, even up the series against the bucks last night, in the most improbable ways, like if you were sitting there Sarah before the game thinking, you know what? Boston wins this because of a huge Al Horford game, because Al Horford's gonna take over the fourth quarter, out play yazd de Campo and bring the Celtics back from the dead. That would have been last on my list of things I would have expected. But there you had it. Al Horford 35 years old, turning back the clock. Dunking on Giannis, going 6 for 6 in the fourth quarter, two for two from three point range and just carrying the Celtics over the finish line in what has been the most physical series I've seen in a long time. Like I'm watching from my media seat and every possession, there are bodies all over the floor. It looked like Lambeau Field out there in Milwaukee with the physicality of the series. What did you think of Celtics bucks last night and I guess how do you see the series moving forward? There's a lot of layers to this. One, I will say that shouldn't have been last on your list because Al has been balling. Like you look at what he's done this postseason and I'll take it back to the series against Brooklyn..

"horford" Discussed on Celtics Lab Podcast
"You probably know from sugar resemblance from al horford. Which is a high off mount and she's also the host of the happy hour broadcasts correct. Yes host of the horford. Happy hour podcasts. It will first things first tell us. About employed with wind gusts yasser so Horford happy hours of podcast. They started years ago. Got within network out of boston. You know my favorite city at the media network in boston picked up for happy hour just kind of enrolling with it ever since said you can check it out on. Itn's or basically anywhere that you can listen to podcasts. Certainly the second best podcast of their. You know we love the seal on us definitely check out so we're going to ask you things that i'm sure. Every fan is aware of kind of your relationship. Your brother either relationship with philadelphia and all sorts of stuff like that then. We'll also talk a little bit about some of the bigger picture. Stuff going around the lead So i talk us through You kinda in other. Podcast gave your initial thoughts but now that the dust to settle. Where's your mind ask for. The horford's returned to boston. What does it mean for you. What does family what does it mean for al. Yeah so we're all extremely excited. Which i feel like it's a given. I mean if you saw my tweets are siblings tweet Als posts on social media. You can tell like we're really excited to be heading back to boston Something else that. I'm kind of feeling a bit anxious. just kinda get back in the swing of things and Hopefully we'll have a covid ish free season and you know there's just a lot goes into it and so but mostly were excited. We're really looking forward to being back. At td garden we're looking forward to interacting with the fans gone It's going to be really great question if you know the answer but you don't wanna say anything you don't have to. It seemed like al posted on social immediately. He had that really nice since japan. That went up really fast after the news broke. Do you think he knew that this was in the works in an advanced stage or do you think he thought of like the rest of us. I mean he obviously. There was some hope that he'd be heading back to boston. So i think that was always on the back burner so is never really liked too far from anyone's minds and i mean we're just happy that they were all able to seal the deal essentially and so. Yeah now he's back. Yeah we're having to have alex anna for coming on the pot. And i have a question less about basketball and more about just like life and experiences in boston. Where is where the spots that the horford's The horford crew generally like to hang out in city after gauge things. Like that could let us in on some. You don't have to tell us all maybe one or two. Yeah well algebraic homebody so a lot of the times. He likes to go home after games on in have dinner but if we are going out one of our favorite favorite spots is department and it's a little italian spot. I believe there are two of them in boston. like so good so so good the location that we go to also Has the dominican chef and were dominican and so You know he and our chat abed and saw and on basically i mean i personally love the north end Just in general for food and great for italian food especially Not so much after games but we really love An a pickle for brunch in south. And yeah i mean i'm sure i could name a million places that i'm just not thinking of off the top of my head but those are a couple that we really like so it sounds like a Horford family yourself included obviously pretty pumped of this trade. But you've been on the other side of trades or moves that maybe work as exciting or were a little more emotional. Just someone who's more nba jason than the average person. What's something that you think fans either. Don't understand or maybe kind of miss when we talk about the game we talk about players when big events like being treated to a new city often. Yeah i think the number one thing is just remembering that these guys are just like you and me and they're human and they have emotions and they have feelings and you know they're valid so it's not easy for anyone to just pack up and move but then you think about like a lot of these players have kids who are in school and they've wives who have made friends and family who who's made friends and so i think just like humanizing. These guys is really important. And just recognizing that That yeah their thoughts feelings in struggles are completely valid. Ala's two youngins correct or way of. What is he like as a down on my gosh. He's like one of those people who was put on this planet to be a dad. Like it is his bread-and-butter the kids are his pride and joy They're all best friends and they're all like you know obsessed with owl. He can't wait to get home so You know every day in south and they're all really really close than His oldest son and especially loves going to all the games he sits down like as a little kid and like we'll sit through entire games and like analyze them and break them down and You know he's got like three dunk sorority like in his arsenal also. He's ready. he's ready man. It's great. are you the cool aunt or the tough on liquid yourself in the end. We pronounce it in boston. You make cured. His aunt or people aren't familiar. Yeah no i mean. Obviously william and yeah so i mean. That's the goal right is to be like the cool app. Who's like in a corner with like a glass of wine like slipping my fifties hundreds year nieces nephews in just like go have a good time go spend. It can't do that quite yet sir. Little but yeah definitely. Yeah for sure. I'm going to be the cool air. But as a as teacher maybe not fifties hundreds maybe like ten pounds. Ask you a question about xs and os that. I'm wondering if you've talked to al about this Do think he still wants to play the power play the forties that he is more to the center and do his view on being a mentor has changed since his time in oklahoma city. I mean he was already such a leader for boston. But he's just that much older moore season so do think he still wants to play the power hord. I is my question. second in. He sees himself in the locker room. Yeah i mean. I think al is. Obviously it's very capable of playing the power forward or center on. I think he's gonna do whatever the team needs to do. So he is going to help out wherever he caton. Whether that's our report or center on he's not the kind of person to nitpick over that stuff just is more like about the win at the end of the day so whatever he can do to help achieve i think that's what he's going to focus on.
Brad Stevens Explains Why Celtics Made Kemba Walker Trade
"On friday. We had a rare postseason trade with boston. Sending kemba walker. And this year's first round sixteenth overall to oklahoma city for al horford the move freeze the celtics in the final year of canvas deal saving the team about thirty two million dollars in the process. Here is how brad. Stevens explained the move on monday. We had look at with the idea of moving That first round pick this year right a gave us the opportunity to look at a A road ahead with a few more options from the financial flexibility standpoint All of our future you know. First round picks passed this year Which again gives you more options. And then you know it was the It was the best deal That we thought with regard to you know returning players. Riot i mean the idea Or the opportunity to add How do make significantly less money. But his You know a really good player that has corporate knowledge of this environment.
Boston Celtics Trade Kemba Walker to Oklahoma City Thunder
"And an NBA trade of note Today, Kimber walkers sent From Boston to a okay. See with the number one pick for Al Horford. Moses Brown in a second round pick. Okay, see, taking the remainder of Walker's exorbitant

"And you can't necessarily account for that, and we've learned that lesson in recent free agency periods, where the Celtics have a line of reasonability, G, other teams do something that they don't think is reasonable. But yes, the, the capability of having those to remain with the team is much more in play now than it than it was before this trade and on the smart front. Like he's the starting point guard now and if you believe that he's going to be your starting point guard, be on this year, which I actually think is a completely reasonable thing. I thought were sort of talking offline in Texas about like how I you know how I think it's an intelligent way to build a team around Jalen and Jason especially if Jason's going to become more and more of a point forward and like to build defensive flexibility around them. They get they took you to do that in a way that most other young Stars don't if they don't play the wing and so having Marcus be your point guard would be fine and if the talk about how he wants an extension is true like his max extensions only twenty percent more than a month. Now like you could very reasonably just extend Marcus for 20% more than he makes now at a couple of years and have them be your spark. You're starting point guard and I think that also becomes more likely now that campus out of the picture because you need a point guard. And that's not to say that I expect that to actually happen. But like, I, If you would ask me yesterday, that seemed less likely than it does now, right? Right, for sure. And, I mean, to be honest, there's just something whatever. When Kyrie walked out the door and 2019, I thought this was the Avenue they were going to pursue at the time, it's be like, okay, see what smart? A point guard looks like full-time wage and we saw how that turned out internet, obviously very well for a year, when Campbell's healthy. But then when sideways. So now that's the The Logical fit. They're not to say that they won't bring in, you know, they, they could test his value on the market right now. And if they find a better fit, I think that could certainly be in play or allow wage. Go to just to be a, the do everything six-man. I think that could be in play too, but the odds again, went up a lot in addition to Forney being around for First Merit, being around town. Next season, let's talk about Horford for a minute. In.

"If you were to keep her morale. Yeah, Moses. Granted, this sounds really good. I would miss you and I love that. That's my favorite part about this whole deal to be honest. Yeah, people still jumping in here and, you know, just catching up. Some people are, literally just like, wait, what? Let's just schedule this is. This is normally when I'm waking up right now, I would normally be like, what's going on? Yeah. Let's, let's catch people up a little bit here. We have table. A major trade here as you can see on the screen. Kemba Walker. Going to OKC, this is a trade. We talked about as a total possibility. The price of unloading canvas, salary is a wage around. Pick the 16th pick in this year's draft is gone. So guys, if you wanted to start doing your draft homework, I know that was Bobby's. Next assignment on Monday, we were about to start talking draft profiles. Take them a couple of weeks off, we're good. No, first-round pick, swapping future, second-rounders Mo, Brown also, coming back. It's a nice addition of this trade, very much about creating salary space, getting out from under canvas contract, giving you some more flexibility again, we assume in the hopes of, you know, trying to find that third player to come here and join Tatum and brown the future. So a lot of, you know, differing opinions here on what Al Horford can do the state of the current roster. One thing I think is clear very, very, very clear. There is no way. Is the only Domino to fall. It is extremely interesting. We've talked a lot about this move, but you've got massive decisions. Again, this is what was so baffling about moving from Ange to someone without experience, like, Brad in this offseason where you had on your to-do list, get rid of Kemba find out, find someone who will take on, Tristan figure out what you're going to do about Marcus Smart's future, figure out what you're going to do about Williams future decide if you're going to spend into the tax to re-sign Evan Fournier. Oh and then maybe you know, research to draft figure out whether or not you want to hold on to the kids here or you want to ship them for veteran pics, all of these things, this is step one first, Domino of like a very, very busy offseason and there is no way that this is, this is the last thing that to happen. In fact you know at the very least you assume there's some other movement with a big and most there could be still some massive moves on the horizon and nothing would really surprise me at this time. But this was clearly the first Domino that had to fall. It was an important one. You had to move from this in order to start, even considering some of the other stuff cuz you gotta see where the money's going to be, and you needed to figure out what we're going to do here. So there's some savings from Canada. Al's nine million in savings. Al if he's waved next year, I believe would would be fourteen million left over versus canvas thirty-four, so a 20 million in Savings in your student, make the finals. Yeah..

"And that's okay, because the jobs wage Sometimes you do have to take a step back to take two or three forward if you can bring in and out, Horford and create, you know, over another year or so enough, cap space to go out and land, that God dammit member of the big three or one of your young guys, all of a sudden starts playing more minutes and they develop into that third Big Time option, then it was worth. It was absolutely worth it. It's worth it, it's worth it. If a Year's worth of, you know, having Rob under his wing helps out helps Rob do some things. I know they overlapped by a year, Rob's rookie year but took his own shift to worry about that year. That was a, you know, really funky season in Boston obviously. So I like the idea of the veteran presence, the guy who does things right? The guy who values defense, the guy who values Distributing the guy, who got worried about stats, the guy who, you know, can still, you know, theoretically defend a couple of different positions, and who's there to help, you know, maybe help rob, you know, you know, set has set his alarm clock and wage. You know, stay on the court or do whatever he needs to do. It's going to be it's going to be, it's going to be a feel-good team to some degree. Don't you think? Yeah. Just just have to say it will say, who said? I got it all. Looks like you didn't trade, something poisonous, Kemba was a guy who he wasn't poisonous personality wise, but I said from the very beginning that year, that there was a real problem in terms of just three guys who really need the ball, where isolation scores, right? That's, that's the problem. I mean, you have to it's been a problem. Now for multiple years, you just had too many guys who need the ball, but I think Camp of was liked. I think Campbell had a good positive attitude. I think it was just frustrating because they, they thought they could win, you know? So many games, I mean, how many times last year we do like the part, was it, like a chemist us tonight? It was just a routine and it felt like so many gain. Just essentially forfeited and trying to maintain him because of the depth situation and just how it was score and they had the top of the roster and how offensive dependent the team was, it was just an unstable team situation last year. And that, that program was just really dedicating in many cases. I think the most impactful player on the inconsistency last year, no one could establish their rolls down one, could build cohesion, in chemistry, you had other injuries that like, put more pressure on a Tatum when Brown and Kemba were out, you know, when Rob was yet even less passed and there was one that was just hate him doing everything. And now I think you have some guys that are going to be a little more consistent, right? And the injury thing was really the one shocker for most of us because you look at Kim's time in life, you know, Charlotte. He rarely missed games, he was an Ironman of sorts, I mean, and and so for Celtics fans, and for those who follow Kimba his time, Austin is just a bit of a head-scratcher be, but it felt and we were all a little bit concerned about this. From the jump was whether all those years in Charlotte, the wear and tear that his body went through, being the boss to carry that franchise year after year. After year at some point, you figured it would catch up to win it and it really does, you know, just look at his time in Boston. That was a time. So if you're in the Celtics, you might be cutting the ribs it in time to to not frankly, devastate your organization even more so and take even more steps back..

"Play through multiple knee surgery and shop, and came here with that injury, baggage on him. So in essence, it was almost the opposite, the Celtics paid him facilitated his treatment, all these things, try to get him on a program, try to make it work after, you know, report, penetrate him last offseason and it didn't work. And then by all accounts, in that Bleacher Report story, he wanted out as much as they wanted out from him. So often ends up in New York at the end of this. All going to be fine, too. Yeah, you don't know how bad he wanted out. I do think he was probably a little bit hurt or offended. The fact that like I came here, I think he was dead. Be bothered. I those things have a way of, like, it's all a matter of context, you know? Sherrod's probably heard, eight million reports like this that are out there about people, that just because I'm annoyed with. Something doesn't mean I'm ready to blow it up ready to leave. There's a lot of things that bother you, you know, like it's like complaining about your wife. It doesn't mean you want a divorce. You're just saying like, oh, that sucks today. She grilled me over this, and then someone goes and writes in the paper. John wants a divorce. Like, that's not what I said. I just got annoyed about this thing. So, yeah, Kemba certainly might have been annoyed, but I don't think Campbell was done, done with Boston. Yeah, no, the thing that that just posted I've spoken to about this have indicated to me that more than anything. He was just bothered by the fact that he was a subject of all these damn trade month. At the end of the day, Kim is no different than any other player at that statue. And you just want to be somewhere where you're wanted. You don't want to be in a situation where, you know, this team is doing everything to get rid of you and then they expect you to log. Employer ass off of them even though they don't want you to play for them. That's where a lot of players that's where their frustration comes and they would much, rather be traded quickly get on to a team that wants you to be stuck with Iraq, in a coaching staff and an organization that is doing everything they can to get your ass out the door to me, that's the tough part. When you're the subject of trade rumors and you know, they're true yet you're still expected to go out there and perform as if everything is on your doors to replace, it's always a relationship analogy for John. It is, I do want to point something out here because some people are kind of missing it. Everyone. Immediately, you know, thinks as soon as Anna Horford starts tweeting, they're like, oh, Al's wife is tweeting, it's not, you still do that. You know, we've we did this, we had it for a few years back over. This is white and of course, Anna, Horford podcaster on ceiling Warford season..

"Going to fix that as well. You have a guy in Kemba or in Horford, who's going to take a back seat for us, who's going to go home? Help us tank. Do our thing here, and we're going to work with him on his future, life Nation, if he really hated, Boston didn't like it here. Didn't want to come back. This deal probably doesn't get done, but he looks at the situation now, post everything and it's like. All right, we got some young guys here. We got some young Stars. I like what we got here and I'm going to go back and do it again. That's good on the end of thing. But I am like I said, is you've done? You've done Kemba dirty so to speak. How did they do crack a dirty? Look, I'm just talking about the way. I'm just it's just a phrase Bobby. I'm, I've never thought you talking about. I've never bought into that. I think it's abated. Everything they possibly can. That's what I'm saying. I I have always believed it's a business, you can't have you can't be pissed off when people trade you, you know, no matter what there's no loyalty on either side, you walk, you totally understand it. When you totally understand it. When Whatchamacallit, when when guys get traded and when you guys make their own decisions and free-agent, I think when people people don't seem to understand was that how didn't leave? Because he hated it in Boston, he left because he got a better offer, he felt that his value was at a certain point, didn't agree. And so then I'll said, well, let me go find out what that value is and you got a four-year hundred million dollar deal, which is more than a Celtics felt he was worth now in retrospect the cellphone right. Because when you look at how things flamed out for Allen Philadelphia look out, things didn't work out. When you got traded to OKC. I mean, Al has been at a couple of different places since he left Boston, and I think if you're out, Horford, it at this month. Your career you gotta ask yourself what's the best situation for me players want to play?.

"I had Sox tickets at night, I was like I can't wait to get out and then boom that happen and that was an all day Affair. So this is a monster trade on Friday and There's a ton to unpack. So I mean, let's start with initial just for everybody home. Assume you've tuned in. You have the news by now? Brad Stevens. We assumed it was Brad Stevens. I don't need much. Danny has any fingerprints on this or who? But massive major deal. Early early, early in free agency Kemba Walker goes to OKC for Al Horford. This is one of the ones we talked about our special a week ago and the overall compensation, is this first round, pick goes this year's. That's number sixteen. Then also, a few, a second-rounder. In addition, you're getting a brown and you're getting get it, they're getting a second-rounder right? Yeah, there. Yeah. There's, there's a 2023 second-round, understanding out in twenty twenty-five, K. They're sending one out, and they're getting one back. So it's just swap a future seconds. Basically, the deal comes down to the meeting, the the meat, and potatoes here. It's Kemba. And your, and your first round pick this year, for Horford and mow Brown. And then a swap a second job. So first thoughts Bobby, I know yours, so there's no surprise here. Let's start with. Well let's let's start with Bobby, you're happy to have Horford. I want to give that a minute. Let's start with sharrod. The compensation is when people are going to be right worried about here, did you give up too much? Is the first round or too? Much more Browns. Nice Mo Brown was a two-way contract, beginning of the year. He lit up the Celtics earlier in this season. So anyone who remembers that game was like wow, that guy's pretty good. He finished with pretty solid stats for the year. He's a nice little cheap Edition signed through 2012 RAV4. I think very short money. Nice guy to have on your team. That's a terrific bench. That's a terrific depth Edition, but that first round pick hurts a little bit. Obviously. Yeah. And, you know, and that's why, that's, that's right. Yeah, it's the cost of doing business and to be frank with you, this feels very much like a brad, Stevens type of deal as opposed to a Danny engine where I don't think that first wrong Pig. Would have necessarily been included, frankly, I don't think the deal would have got done if Danny held his guns on that first round pick. It's no secret that if you're dealing with OKC at this point in their growth and development jobs, you gotta throw in a first-round pick, they're not doing any deals unless they're getting one of those in return. And frankly for the Celtics, let's be honest and real. When they're picking outside of the top five, it's a crapshoot on what their thoughts. Again, at least when you're giving up that second that first round pick and you're swapping. Essentially second-round picks. You're basically saying we're giving you this this middle of the first round pick for Moses problem, cuz to me, Kim bought a now that's a pretty comparable slop..
Celtics Send Kemba Walker, 16th Pick to Thunder for Horford

How Joel Embiid Became An MVP Contender
"Also derek. Last season ended in pretty disappointing. Fashion for philadelphia. That'll do it. The boston celtics move on by defeating the seventy sixers. Four games to nothing. The first ever went wrong in that first round against boston for embiid and the sixers. I think a bunch of things went wrong. First of all. You can't start without saying this. Ben simmons zone. Outside of that sort of what went wrong was wrong with the sixers all year. The team didn't fit well yet. Al horford and josh richardson. Who were tough it's around a post op center and embiid. Richardson shooting for three ended out. They didn't have a real reliable second often times during the series alec. Burks was your secondary options on offense recipe. Brad stevens and the celtics and bead romeo leg for the rookie thinking about double vacates birds. Who can't make them pay. So there is a lot of mistakes that were made roster building and there were missing. Simmons isn't it was a tough series for sure. Can you remind us what the narrative was after that first round exits surrounding joel embiid and his performance. Yeah it was fascinating because on one hand when they came back into the bubble they had spent pretty much those months in between working with you all to get better at handling dull teams and it came out in the bubble in orlando during the seeding games and some of that had started to show and he looked like he was handling double teams better and he came out against the celtics. And i think that he converted back a little bit in terms of struggling with the double team and bead backing down ties gordon hayward on the help and they come up with the steel but he was dominant as an individual score. That was locked off and be. Did it again. Safe focused joel. Fb five of seven. Give him thirteen of his team's thirty one. We'll lifesaver on that. So i think a lot of people looked at you made steps. He did most of what he could do individually. He just didn't have enough help around him. Well that disappointing end to a long season led to a number of changes within the sixers organization. Can you take us through. Some of the moves that philly made in the off season and how they related to unlocking the better performances from joel. Embiid is off the front office. Obviously brought daryl morey To work above. Elton brand and then they brought in doc rivers replace brett brown and then you had some pretty key addition to traded al horford for essentially danny green. And then josh. Richardson for steph curry. And i think those two editions have been pretty big with joel. Because i think if you look either trade you'd say the sixers got the lesser talent but the fit and just having to players in curry and green. Who the other team can't leave has been huge for. Joel shoe autom- double wall and pass. And you miss accomplish you. Miss a lot of shots You just straightening and then you start thinking of all you gotta do everything by yourself. 'cause everybody's not made the shots. Richardson horford they were not only inconsistent shooting. If they are unwilling shooters and they'd hesitate any office. Which is kinda come grinding down to a halt not only is curry making his shots and all these green making his permanent shots. But the ball is moving around the perimeter. Much quicker than it was. So there's more consequential doubling joel embiid than there ever has been monarch got a lot of assists but Ogle gets one us open. Invite double or triple team has a lot of hockey else's shake milton hinton to downtown ten points and ten minutes off the bench make no mistake that play which about drawing the double and then the ball moving east gotta be willing to be content. That the ball's the swing opposite and he's gonna creative for shots teams are now left with a real choice whereas before i think the whole strategy just send you all need help and disguise it a little bit senate in different locations but if you send it frequently enough you're going to confuse joel embiid or the sixers aren't going to have the talent or the players to make him pay. I think that's changed now.

Danny Ainge's Celtics Conundrum
"The logical question though, and he got into this a lot with Bob and we got his thoughts. But obviously I want yours as well. You know, there are only so many options really that Danny Ainge has because of just the economic setup of this month. Stir, you know, it's very top-heavy salary cap wise young guys, you know, you can all right fine. So you don't bring back like an enes Kanter not a young guy but a cheap guy, you know, that's that's not going to give you all that much flexibility back. So it's really do you want to trade Marcus Smart, which I don't think anybody wants to do or do you want to move off of Gordon Hayward in some way shape or form now? He has the power which is often for that 34 + million dollars next year or he could opt out do what everyone thought was going to happen with Al Horford last year, which is re-signed him, you know more years lower aav average wage will value or you know option three is obviously you trade the guy. I don't think there's a scenario in which he just hops out and doesn't return I don't believe that anyway coming off the injury, maybe if he had had a bought a strong healthy season and great playoff run sure, but that wasn't the reality. So it's it's kind of a b and c with Gordon, but you know Brown who has just resigned isn't going anywhere. Tatum's going to get his contract cambuslang. In anywhere, so it's sort of adjusts, you know, your your salary cap position as a results to Hayward or you kind of bring back everybody and you just look to cherry-pick some depth off that balance like you're talking about right or or is there something I'm missing? Yeah. No, I mean and that's the other part of it is in you mentioned Caden pretty extensively Jaylen Brown has also shown he can be foundational second piece that goes he's turning twenty-four I think in like two weeks to have another player like that who and let's face it. The Celtics are pretty fortunate like the wage and they gave him he would Be worth a little more right now. She was going into like restricted free agency. So in addition to those guys being pieces you hope and assume they're both going to get them like camber is what can build which is, you know, an All-Star starters really good. Obviously your concerns about his knee. Hopefully that there's up but with Tatum and Jaylen there's still some there's still a level there. You think if you're if you're a self extension you hope so maybe that's what it takes to kind of get over the hump and you talk about Hayward. Obviously, I know fans are kind of disenchanted with them. He's had some just brutal block really like it's not like these injuries you suffering because he's like frail or like, you know, like just just brutal brutal luck. But off this year when he was healthy like last year when he was healthy. He was still not himself. It was clear this year when he was healthy looked really good. He was one of the best players and I think it was encouraging birth. You there aren't a lot of Gordon hayward's out there. We talked about like moving off of Gordon Hayward like he's back and playing like he's capable. That's a pretty big asset to have particularly. If you're putting them alongside our guys like Jason jail and who were still on their uptrend?
NBA Campus Intel: Lakers' Offensive Woes Continue in the Bubble
"Thing about the bubble is I think it's GonNa. Be Really hard to execute your primary offense. If you will 'cause is way more indepth scouting of every team because you can literally go and see those teams in the bubble and they're all on TV and you have plenty of time to. Track things and check things out may make for uglier place more physical playoffs where these games, the defense sometimes is optional for much of the game. But I I guess I'm not a sold in Lakers and clippers and bucks even though I still think the Lakers clippers and bucks will be the Ford. Three of the fourteen remaining obviously the one thing with it's it's interesting as Ben? Simmons tweaks his knee right where you start to think to yourself wait I thought that that Joel embiid was going to be the injury plagued. One Simmons was one who had the back back issue before Kovic shut things down and now he tweaks a knee. Meanwhile, you got embiid who doesn't seem to be happy with anybody. Such a talent team but one that doesn't seem to have the ability to kind of get right but dude embiid is so talented. WHOA. So crazy talented I do think generally in the NBA now the jazz shake Milton playing the point gives them a viable scoring weapon I still like him on not nearly as much if Ben Simmons but you know they do al Horford but it would. It feels like it would kill there. Any chance to come out of the east. If you don't have been Simmons,

"Plus offer sheet for him. I think it's realistic. We'll see Kemba Walker Charlotte Hornets. Boy, they're in a between a rock and a hard place. You either pay Kemba a lot of money and lock yourself into a team that isn't very good. Or you let him walk in, then it's paint time Zac. If they were going not going to pay him. They knew the neighborhood, it was gonna take the keep him and that was guaranteeing that fifth year on a deal. Then why didn't you trade him at the deadline? That's what I don't understand if they were to just let him walk here. Yeah. I mean, the noise is been all over the place. And, you know, all indications are he came out and said, he would take a little bit less than two supermax. I don't think they were ever going to offer him. It's actually good. It's a good play. I'm going to I'm going to take less. Less of something that they were never going to offer me anyway. So when you do the looks like you were Bonello it was a smart play by Kemba. He's still going to be a player who potentially is going to get a nearly two hundred million dollar deal in Charlotte one, seventy one ninety what's the number at the Michael Jordan comes to a we'll see. And I'm fascinated if that deal dubs, come to how are they getting under the tax? How many picks are assets or stretch provision waivers? What are they doing to get under? The let's move on Al Horford opting out of his deal with Boston telegraphing to the Celtics. He has a place or places he would rather play, what is the latest on Mr. L. Well, it is a source of great intrigue, among front offices all over the league. You're not agents who are trying to figure out who really has cap space and who's cap spaces phantom, because they have Al Horford slotted in their Al Horford is a smart player. He's got a smart agent. Jason glue schon. They are not walking away from Boston without knowing that, there is something significant out there. And that significant deal is probably at four years, perhaps over one hundred million dollars. There was a limit where Danny Ainge boss wanted to go Al Horford. They do value him greatly, but he's thirty three years old idea of going for four years smart play by Boston. It's the right play. And it's going to get bossom salary cap space and flexibility, if they want to go after a Kemba Walker in Kolevic, they can do some things in free agency to. We'll see. I mean if he wants his set in stone deal on June thirtieth that would seem to rule out teams for Horford that need to make decisions on three or four different players, which would seem to rule out. So my favorite Misra teams. That's that's another day. The most mysterious big-name free agent on the market, DeMarcus cousins. What are we supposed to do at the markets cousins?.

"This Horford thirty million because they know no one cares about what the rules are. They are the agent knows talks on a new deal with the Celtics ending the two sides, too far apart. Then there's kind rearing apparently ghosting the Celtics ahead of free agency to the guys PTI would losing him. Be a good thing or a bad thing for the Celtics, I think, for the Celtics, it's a good thing. I don't think it worked out. I think kyri Irving misrepresented himself to the Celtics. I think he tease the Celtics. Here's here's what I wanted to hear. Tell me if I'm wrong. Because you pay more attention than I, I haven't heard teammates say we gotta keep him. No. I haven't heard to coach say, we gotta keep him if you look at the record when he was on the court and when he was off the court. It's a thin talented as he is. I think it's a good thing to, to cut the cord with him. I wouldn't even be trying to call them. I wouldn't take his phone calls. If I was a Celtics, we know what the deal is. This is not a small sample size is like they win seventy one and a half percent of their games without him. And sixty one percent of their games with him over essentially to season stretch. Goodbye now career has great value to somebody more the Lakers, but that doesn't seem should be happening seems to me, if you team, it was someone who leads LeBron James someone who was the lead player. Lebron James it settles him into a. Comfortable number two. Him as number one Heike looks for someone something or some place that's going to make him happy, happy on his own, but Ken, the Lakers find that slot for a MAC salary. In the days to come, whether it's before the drafter before free agency really begins on July six we fade as if this is the only way you can acquire players. But one of the things that I keep hearing stressed when I make calls on this is thick and also the Lakers can also use.

"Good is that team versus the Celtics team with Anthony Davis, Gordon Hayward a re-signed L Horford Brown? Jaylen Brown markets. That's still pretty good team. And if listen, let's remember, a couple of things one Celtics to get to the conference finals game seven without kyri and Gordon Hayward. Right. That's like part of the Lord out. They got to game seven against LeBron. Doesn't mean that you could do that, again just by eliminating those guys. But we know there's a version of that Celtics team. That's really, really good. And Jalen Brown, we presume is going to take another step forward. And we also presume that Kyrie Irving, if not the entire reason, certainly not the entire reason, but a large part of the reason that their chemistry was screwy and everything else. Also, by the way, just thinning the herd trading for Anthony Davis by definition is going to thin the herd. So part of what the problem was was probably too many guys who needed to many shots, too many minutes. And Brad Stevens couldn't quite figure out how to keep everybody happy as a result. Nobody was happy. So a different version of that team with fewer stars to placate or fewer young up and coming guys to placate might be a stronger more cohesive unit. The, the, the talent will still be there Anthony Davis, takes them to another level. Is that team good enough to compete with the bucks and the and the the weird Sixers? And whatever is the raptors. I think they're in the mix. Gin. And by the way, the raptors had phenomenal chemistry. They have some ages shoes. We don't know what, what who they are who've that team was coming back. Even if Kawai does, and you also your year chemistry changes. Sometimes we don't know if that, if that same magic will will last into another season. If I'm Danny Ainge, I'd feel pretty damn confident in the group that you just laid out. I also believe this. I said this earlier the finals, this is the testament to why you take a swing if you get a chance to get a top ten guy on a one year deal, you do it because Paul George might just resign with you Kawai, Leonard might just lead you to the finals. My first glance at that. Boston team the imaginary, no Kyrie. Yes. AD team in no Tatum. Is. It doesn't have enough perimeter shot creation because I can't assume that Gordon Hayward is Gordon Hayward again after watching him last year. Now soon he's going to be better in your to Paul George became Paul George, but I'm just like, I'm not going to just blanket, assume pencil in twenty twenty five and five fair on good shooting next season. Maybe I hope he gets her certainly had games where he looked like he was getting there and then had been tire weeks where you disappear. However, they would, you know Baynes just opted in. He's an important part of their team. They would be a fairly deep and that if you're starting lineup is smart Hayward Brown Davis, Horford. You have a chance to be the best defensive team in the league in the regular season. That's gonna win. You a lot of games in the playoffs offense it unless somebody pops or Gordon Hayward pops back to being Gordon Hayward offense might be something of an issue like dumping it down to like having your too. Big is be sole responsible for for shock creation is a little a little dicey but I may be underestimating that team because of how good it could be defensively. I could be the best defensive team Italy. And we, we should factor into, like, how much more Al Horford is there, you know, to speaking of age issues, but no on its face..

"Hard against Horford found a spot right in the low box in late it into tie the game too. Battery Irving across the nearside, Eric Bledsoe defending him outstanding defender, he gets rid of it to Horford straddling the three point line ninety seconds into game. Three Horford looking inside the Brown instead he'll shoot and make the two Horford giving Boston before to lead Horford so comfortable away from the basket not just with the shooting. But with the passing there's very Tich catching shoot three. No good, long rebound or for long extended left arm. Beat to the punch now Horford getting by Middleton whips a pass to Morris into the corner. Brown gets off three. Kevin to favor of Boston. Jaylen Brown's triple. Gets the crowd roaring. Eric Bledsoe running start in Mullane overtake them shot. No good. For the rebound. Lost momentarily. Got it back. Here's Horford pass down court. Kyrie irving. Nice behind the back dribble settles. Beautiful by urban saving the turnover. And he's given the Celtics attend to lead. Start Brad Stevens. And as raucous crowd was looking for nine and a half minutes into game tree. Jalen Brown hounding Middleton on the left. Eight to has to get rid of it to yourself. High Janas has on his heels goes deep puts it out the window and gets to roll or thought he was pushed as he went camping back. No call. There was a lot of context. And sure Brad Stevens is all.

"Rebound Horford chasing down in the nearside corner. They'll give it the kyri passes across the right side to Brown. Brown cutting down the lane jump pass outside Horford left corner. Three missed rebound tipped all the way to the three point line. That's where Tatum comes up with data. The Horford at the elbow spinning since it back out to Tatum. Jason the second year man from Duke fires a past Brown one dribble to the corner for three. It's good proud still perfect from the field. Maybe foul if you're in the end if you the best stop. We've got eighteen six of six from the field as it all four of his threes. Under ten minutes to go in the third Boston within one miles Turner up. High flips at Matthews behind the Turner screen for three. No good right on the Mark rebounded by Horford. We'll give it to kyri is Boston looks to. Reclaim the lead here kyri, accelerating passing before for it outside jumper missed a short little bit too much touch on that one miles Turner has to the Pacers. Mcmahon will bring it across the fad young outside the three point line against Tatum. Looking for by Donna vici? Now loops it over the head of boy in and out of bounds turnover, Indiana, they were so good. Persona to the first Horner turnover since the first quarter. I love Boston. I'm gonna quit selling for jump shots. I get this ball in the paint, eight points in the paint to this point of all day. We'll see if Kyrie Irving can get them started. He's out on the wing right now against Donovan. He'll pass it to the tip gets it back. Here's kyri driving walled off shot. No good from Tampa all the way out tip that abound specials. Look at each other last touch by indie. It'd be Boston ball with a new fourteen second shot up start for Kyrie Irving would now four of twelve. Diary will get a trigger in Jason Tatum with it made them covered by by. Donovan gives it to Horford. Tip of the circle he'll jump it. Up miss. Another one short and it's rebounded by industrial early jumpers. There's collison with an eight fifty five to go third quarter Pacers hanging onto a slim one point lead passed by John the left loops it to the baseline off the hands of Turner gets back in the corner. Steps back. It's a good look at it three. Missed it. Rebound contested and won by the Celtics. Jalen brown. Give the Kyrie's got big hair and Bain strange shoots behind missed. The three rebound. Offensive to Horford out of the mid post. Bumping grinding spinning passing out to Brown on the left up top to kyri, they'll send one to the right lane, detain them. Three to shoot Tatum holding with one gets a triple try that MRs long rebound, and it's west. Is there a invisible fence around the pain here? Everything from the outside for Boston. Eight ten left in the quarter in the third collison dribbling right of the circle now out beyond the art gets a screen off the switch has bane stops pops before the shot foul on the Celtics. It was kyri traffic through that string diary. Boston, not even thinking about going into pain. It's jumper after jumper. That's a tough way to make a living..

"We'll talk to him about that. And just a second. I found that interesting. How that Anthony Davis is dad said he felt the Celtics without loyal ties. Ahah Thomas therefore want Anthony Davis to play for the Boston Celtics. I'm wondering do you feel the same way about how the team treated Isaiah Thomas? Yeah. I think the reality. Would that is the hard reality is that this is a business? And sometimes, you know, there there is emotions there is different things going on. But then the day just help players we get to make our choices teams have to make their choices and their decisions. And sometimes it's it's not the most popular thing. But that's that's a reality that we live in. And I learned that, you know, very early in my career, some my veterans always always used to tell me that that just to think about it as a business, and and and and that's just the way it goes you say at the end of the day, it's a business, but the left tackle for the Rams. Andrew Whitworth has something else happening at the end of the day during the day. You're all going. So that was after the Super Bowl again if you didn't get that it's a little dark a bit nihilistic. But here's the left tackle of the Rams telling us we need to have perspective about all this stuff during the day. You're all going to die. He he oh, he's not wrong. Horford with the controversial sands agreeing with Indra Whitworth before we get you out of here on the chocolate milk note. You gotta take aside here, Draymond green or Rudy Gobert side or yawn. I'm on. I'm on Draymond side. Strong stance from horn. I don't think he wants to deal with Draymond. If he goes the other way, then kick in the junk. That's right. That's right..

"Again, the university of Miami has signed punter who looks like no student athlete you have ever seen before. Especially from the punter position. He is inked out. Swollen? And also looks like he's closer to fifty then freshman or sophomore or junior or senior in college. It is he's from Australia, and he's doing the Adam LeVine, I'm going to have sleeves of tattoos all over the place. I I'm still by the way, Mike, I'm still mad about that. Halftime performance. It's been three days. Wien thing exclusive. I mean, it's what he was going for when he ripped off his shirt as his signature move got neck Tetsu.
